A search for feebly-interacting particles in BB decays with missing energy at Belle

We present a search for an invisible hidden-sector particle Xinv X_{\rm{inv}}, produced in B0→Dˉ0XinvB^0 \to \bar{D}^0 X_{\rm{inv}} and B±→hXinvB^\pm\to h X_{\rm{inv}} decays, where h=π±h = π^\pm, K±K^\pm, Ds±D_{s}^\pm, p±p^\pm. The search is performed using e+e−e^+ e^- collision data recorded with the Belle detector, corresponding to 711~fb−1^{-1}. No significant signal is observed. We set 90\% confidence level upper limits ranging between 10−410^{-4} and 10−610^{-6} on the branching fraction B(B→hXinv)\mathcal{B}(B \to h X_{\rm{inv}}) as a function of mXinvm_{ X_{\rm{inv}}}. Corresponding limits are set on B(B→hX)×B(X→γγ)\mathcal{B}(B \to hX)\times\mathcal{B}(X\toγγ) for lifetimes cτXcτ_X between 10 μ10~μm and 10 m. Many of these limits are the first direct constraints on their respective decays. Our results provide the most stringent exclusion limits to date on the branching fractions for all search channels, and exclude previously unexplored regions of parameter space relevant to several new physics models.

Search for an Axion-Like Particle in B→K(∗)a(→γγ)B\rightarrow K^{(*)} a (\rightarrowγγ) Decays at Belle

We report a search for an axion-like particle aa in B→K(∗)a(→γγ)B\rightarrow K^{(*)} a (\rightarrowγγ) decays using data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider. The search is based on a 711fb−1711 \mathrm{fb^{-1}} data sample collected at the Υ4SΥ4S resonance energy, corresponding to a sample of 772×106772\times10^6 Υ4SΥ4S events. In this study, we search for the decay of the axion-like particle into a pair of photons, a→γγa \rightarrow γγ. We scan the two-photon invariant mass in the range 0.16 GeV/c2−4.50 GeV/c20.16\ \mathrm{GeV/}c^2-4.50\ \mathrm{GeV}/c^2 for the KK modes and 0.16 GeV/c2−4.20 GeV/c20.16\ \mathrm{GeV/}c^2-4.20\ \mathrm{GeV}/c^2 for the K∗K^{*} modes. No significant signal is observed in any of the modes, and 90\% confidence level upper limits are established on the coupling to the WW boson, gaWg_aW, as a function of aa mass. The limits range from 3×10−6GeV−13 \times 10^{-6} \mathrm{GeV}^{-1} to 3×10−5GeV−13 \times 10^{-5} \mathrm{GeV}^{-1}, improving the current constraints on gaWg_aW by a factor of two over the most stringent previous experimental results.

Measurement of branching fractions and direct CPCP asymmetries for B→KπB \to Kπ and B→ππB\toππ decays at Belle II

We report measurements of the branching fractions and direct CP\it{CP} asymmetries of the decays B0→K+π−B^0 \to K^+ π^-, B+→K+π0B^+ \to K^+ π^0, B+→K0π+B^+ \to K^0 π^+, and B0→K0π0B^0 \to K^0 π^0, and use these for testing the standard model through an isospin-based sum rule. In addition, we measure the branching fraction and direct CP\it{CP} asymmetry of the decay B+→π+π0B^+ \to π^+π^0 and the branching fraction of the decay B0→π+π−B^0 \to π^+π^-. The data are collected with the Belle II detector from e+e−e^+e^- collisions at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance produced by the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy collider and contain 387×106387\times 10^6 bottom-antibottom meson pairs. Signal yields are determined in two-dimensional fits to background-discriminating variables, and range from 500 to 3900 decays, depending on the channel. We obtain −0.03±0.13±0.04-0.03 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.04 for the sum rule, in agreement with the standard model expectation of zero and with a precision comparable to the best existing determinations.

Measurement of the B0→D∗−ℓ+νℓB^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} branching ratio and ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| with a fully reconstructed accompanying BB meson in 2019-2021 Belle II data

We present a measurement of the B0→D∗−ℓ+νℓB^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} (ℓ=e,μ\ell=e,μ) branching ratio and of the CKM parameter ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| using signal decays accompanied by a fully reconstructed BB meson. The Belle II data set of electron-positron collisions at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance, corresponding to 189.3 \,fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity, is analyzed. With the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert form factor parameterization, the parameters ηEWF(1)∣Vcb∣η_{\rm EW} F(1) |V_{cb}| and ρ2ρ^{2} are extracted, where ηEWη_{\rm EW} is an electroweak correction, F(1)F(1) is a normalization factor and ρ2ρ^{2} is a form factor shape parameter. We reconstruct 516 signal decays and thereby obtain B(B0→D∗−ℓ+νℓ)=(5.27±0.22 (stat)±0.38 (syst))%\mathcal{B} (B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} ) = \left(5.27 \pm 0.22~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.38~\rm{\left(syst\right)}\right) \%, ηEWF(1)∣Vcb∣×103=34.6±1.8 (stat)±1.7 (syst)η_{EW} F(1) |V_{cb}| \times 10^{3} = 34.6 \pm 1.8~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 1.7~\rm{\left(syst\right)}, and ρ2=0.94±0.18 (stat)±0.11 (syst)ρ^{2} = 0.94 \pm 0.18~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.11~\rm{\left(syst\right)}.

Search for rare decays B+→Ds(∗)+ηB^{+} \to D_{s}^{(\ast)+}η, Ds(∗)+Kˉ0D_{s}^{(\ast)+}\bar{K}^{0}, D+ηD^{+}η, and D+K0D^{+}K^{0}

We present a study of rare decay modes B+→Ds+h0B^{+} \to D_{s}^{+}h^{0}, B+→Ds∗+h0B^{+} \to D_{s}^{\ast+}h^{0}, and B+→D+h0B^{+} \to D^{+}h^{0}, where h0h^{0} denotes the neutral mesons ηη or K0K^{0}, using a data sample of (772±10)×106(772 \pm 10 ) \times 10^{6} BBˉB\bar{B} events produced at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance. The data were collected by the Belle detector operating at the asymmetric-energy KEKB collider. We observe no evidence for these decays, so we provide upper limits at the 90%\% confidence level on the branching fractions of B+→Ds+h0B^{+} \to D_{s}^{+}h^{0}, Ds∗+h0D_{s}^{\ast+}h^{0}, and D+h0D^{+}h^{0} decay modes. Along with rare decay modes, we report improved measurements of the color-suppressed decay branching fractions B(Bˉ0→D0η)\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to D^{0}η) = (26.6 ±\pm 1.2 ±\pm 2.1) ×\times 10−510^{-5} and B(Bˉ0→D0Kˉ0)\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to D^{0}\bar{K}^{0}) = (5.6 ±\pm 0.5 ±\pm 0.2) ×\times 10−510^{-5}. An improved search for the electric dipole moment of the ττ lepton

We report a measurement of the electric dipole moment of the ττ lepton (dτd_τ) using an 833~fb−1^{-1} data sample collected near the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+ e^- collider. Using an optimal observable method, we obtain the real and imaginary parts of dτd_τ as Re(dτ)=(−0.62±0.63)×10−17 ecm{\rm Re}(d_τ) = ( -0.62 \pm 0.63 ) \times 10^{-17} ~e{\rm cm} and Im(dτ)=(−0.40±0.32)×10−17 ecm{\rm Im}(d_τ) = ( -0.40 \pm 0.32 ) \times 10^{-17} ~e{\rm cm}, respectively. These results are consistent with null electric dipole moment at the present level of experimental sensitivity and improve the sensitivity by about a factor of three.

Belle II Executive Summary

Belle II is a Super BB Factory experiment, expected to record 50 ab−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collisions at the SuperKEKB accelerator until 2035. The large samples of BB mesons, charm hadrons, and tau leptons produced in the clean experimental environment of e+e−e^+e^- collisions will provide the basis of a broad and unique flavor-physics program. Belle II will pursue physics beyond the Standard Model in many ways, for example: improving the precision of weak interaction parameters, particularly Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements and phases, and thus more rigorously test the CKM paradigm, measuring lepton-flavor-violating parameters, and performing unique searches for missing-mass dark matter events. Many key measurements will be made with world-leading precision.

Evidence of a new excited charmed baryon decaying to Σc(2455)0,++π±Σ_{c}(2455)^{0,++} π^{\pm}

We present the study of Bˉ0→Σc(2455)0,++π±pˉ\bar{B}^{0} \to Σ_{c}(2455)^{0,++} π^{\pm} \bar{p} decays based on 772×106772\times 10^{6} BBˉB\bar{B} events collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider. The Σc(2455)0,++Σ_{c}(2455)^{0,++} candidates are reconstructed via their decay to Λc+π∓Λ_{c}^{+} π^{\mp} and Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} decays to pK−π+, pKS0,pK^{-}π^{+},~pK_{S}^{0}, and Λπ+Λπ^{+} final states. The corresponding branching fractions are measured to be B(Bˉ0→Σc(2455)0π+pˉ)=(1.09±0.06±0.07)×10−4{\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to Σ_{c}(2455)^{0} π^{+} \bar{p}) = (1.09 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.07)\times10^{-4} and B(Bˉ0→Σc(2455)++π−pˉ)=(1.84±0.11±0.12)×10−4{\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to Σ_{c}(2455)^{++} π^{-} \bar{p}) = (1.84\pm 0.11 \pm 0.12)\times 10^{-4}, which are consistent with the world average values with improved precision. A new structure is found in the MΣc(2455)0,++π±M_{Σ_{c}(2455)^{0,++}π^{\pm}} spectrum with a significance of 4.2σ4.2σ including systematic uncertainty. The structure is possibly an excited Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} and is tentatively named Λc(2910)+Λ_{c}(2910)^{+}. Its mass and width are measured to be (2913.8±5.6±3.8)(2913.8 \pm 5.6 \pm 3.8) MeV/c2c^{2} and (51.8±20.0±18.8)(51.8\pm20.0 \pm 18.8) MeV, respectively. The products of branching fractions for the Λc(2910)+Λ_{c}(2910)^{+} are measured to be B(Bˉ0→Λc(2910)+pˉ)×B(Λc(2910)+→Σc(2455)0π+)=(9.5±3.6±1.6)×10−6{\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to Λ_{c}(2910)^{+}\bar{p})\times{\cal B}(Λ_{c}(2910)^{+} \to Σ_{c}(2455)^{0}π^{+}) = (9.5 \pm 3.6 \pm 1.6)\times 10^{-6} and B(Bˉ0→Λc(2910)+pˉ)×B(Λc(2910)+→Σc(2455)++π−)=(1.24±0.35±0.10)×10−5{\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to Λ_{c} (2910)^{+}\bar{p})\times {\cal B}(Λ_{c}(2910)^{+} \to Σ_{c}(2455)^{++}π^{-}) = (1.24 \pm 0.35 \pm 0.10)\times 10^{-5}. Here, the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

First Measurement of the Λc+→pη′Λ_c^+ \to p η' decay

We present the first measurement of the branching fraction of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed (SCS) decay Λc+→pη′Λ_c^+ \to p η' with η′→ηπ+π−η' \to ηπ^+π^-, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 981 fb−1\rm fb^{-1}, collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e^{+}e−e^{-} asymmetric-energy collider. A significant Λc+Λ_c^+ signal is observed for the first time with a signal significance of 5.4σσ. The relative branching fraction with respect to the normalization mode Λc+→pK−π+Λ_c^+ \to pK^-π^+ is measured to be \begin{equation*} \frac{{\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p η')}{{\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p K^-π^+)} = (7.54 \pm 1.32 \pm 0.75) \times 10^{-3}, \end{equation*} where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Using the world-average value of B(Λc+→pK−π+)=(6.28±0.32)×10−2{\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p K^-π^+) = (6.28\pm0.32)\times10^{-2}, we obtain \begin{equation*} {\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p η') = (4.73 \pm 0.82 \pm 0.47 \pm 0.24)\times 10^{-4}, \end{equation*} where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and from B(Λc+→pK−π+){\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to pK^-π^+), respectively.

Search for Z′→μ+μ−Z^{'} \rightarrow μ^{+} μ^{-} in the Lμ−LτL_μ{-} L_τ gauge-symmetric model at Belle

No signal is observed in the mass range of 0.212 \ -- 10 GeV/c2{\it c}^2 and we set an upper limit on the coupling strengh, g′g', constraining Z′Z' as a possible contributor to the anomalous magnetic dipole moment of muon.

Search for a light Higgs boson in single-photon decays of Υ(1S)Υ(1S) using Υ(2S)→π+π−Υ(1S)Υ(2S) \to π^+ π^- Υ(1S) tagging method

We search for a light Higgs boson (A0A^0) decaying into a τ+τ−τ^+τ^- or μ+μ−μ^+μ^- pair in the radiative decays of Υ(1S)Υ(1S). The production of Υ(1S)Υ(1S) mesons is tagged by Υ(2S)→π+π−Υ(1S)Υ(2S)\to π^+ π^- Υ(1S) transitions, using 158 million Υ(2S)Υ(2S) events accumulated with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider. No significant A0A^0 signals in the mass range from the τ+τ−τ^+τ^- or μ+μ−μ^+μ^- threshold to 9.2 GeV/c2c^2 are observed. We set the upper limits at 90\% credibility level (C.L.) on the product branching fractions for Υ(1S)→γA0Υ(1S)\to γA^0 and A0→τ+τ−A^0\to τ^+τ^- varying from 3.8×10−63.8\times10^{-6} to 1.5×10−41.5\times10^{-4}. Our results represent an approximately twofold improvement on the current world best upper limits for the Υ(1S)→γA0(→τ+τ−)Υ(1S)\to γA^0(\to τ^+τ^-) production. For A0→μ+μ−A^0\to μ^+μ^-, the upper limits on the product branching fractions for Υ(1S)→γA0Υ(1S)\to γA^0 and A0→μ+μ−A^0\to μ^+μ^- are at the same level as the world average limits, and vary from 3.1×10−73.1\times10^{-7} to 1.6×10−51.6\times10^{-5}. The upper limits at 90\% C.L. on the Yukawa coupling fΥ(1S)f_{Υ(1S)} and mixing angle sinθA0{\rm sin}θ_{A^0} are also given.

We present a search for the charged lepton-flavor-violating decays Υ(1S)→ℓℓ′Υ(1S)\rightarrow\ell\ell^\prime and radiative charged lepton-flavour-violating decays Υ(1S)→γℓℓ′Υ(1S)\rightarrowγ\ell\ell^\prime [ℓ,ℓ′=e,μ,τ\ell,\ell^\prime = e, μ, τ] using the 158 million Υ(2S)Υ(2S) sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB collider. This search uses Υ(1S)Υ(1S) mesons produced in π+π−Υ(1S)π^+π^-Υ(1S) transitions. We do not find any significant signal, so we provide upper limits on the branching fractions at the 90% confidence level.

A search for double-heavy tetraquark state candidates XccsˉsˉX_{cc\bar{s}\bar{s}} decaying to Ds+Ds+D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{+} and Ds∗+Ds∗+D_{s}^{*+} D_{s}^{*+} is presented for the first time using the data samples of 102 million Υ(1S)Υ(1S) and 158 million Υ(2S)Υ(2S) events, and the data samples at s\sqrt{s} = 10.52~GeV, 10.58~GeV, and 10.867~GeV corresponding to integrated luminosities of 89.5~fb−1^{-1}, 711.0~fb−1^{-1}, and 121.4~fb−1^{-1}, respectively, accumulated with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider. The invariant-mass spectra of the Ds+Ds+D_{s}^{+}D_{s}^{+} and Ds∗+Ds∗+D_{s}^{*+} D_{s}^{*+} are studied to search for possible resonances. Snowmass 2021 White Paper on Upgrading SuperKEKB with a Polarized Electron Beam: Discovery Potential and Proposed Implementation

Upgrading the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider with polarized electron beams opens a new program of precision physics at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. This white paper describes the physics potential of this `Chiral Belle' program. It includes projections for precision measurements of sin⁡2θW\sin^2θ_W that can be obtained from independent left-right asymmetry measurements of e+e−e^+e^- transitions to pairs of electrons, muons, taus, charm and b-quarks. The sin⁡2θW\sin^2θ_W precision obtainable at SuperKEKB will match that of the LEP/SLC world average, but at the centre-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. Measurements of the couplings for muons, charm, and bb-quarks will be substantially improved and the existing 3σ3σ discrepancy between the SLC ALRA_{LR} and LEP AFBbA_{FB}^b measurements will be addressed. Precision measurements of neutral current universality will be more than an order of magnitude more precise than currently available. As the energy scale is well away from the Z0Z^0-pole, the precision measurements will have sensitivity to the presence of a parity-violating dark sector gauge boson, ZdarkZ_{\rm dark}. The program also enables the measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment g−2g-2 form factor of the ττ to be made at an unprecedented level of precision. A precision of 10−510^{-5} level is accessible with 40~ab−1^{-1} and with more data it would start to approach the 10−610^{-6} level. This technique would provide the most precise information from the third generation about potential new physics explanations of the muon g−2g-2 4σ4σ anomaly. Additional ττ and QCD physics programs enabled or enhanced with having polarized electron beams are also discussed in this White Paper. This paper includes a summary of the path forward in R&D and next steps required to implement this upgrade and access its exciting discovery potential.

Study of B‾0→D+h−(h=K/π)\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}h^{-} (h=K/π) decays at Belle

We present a measurement of the branching fractions of the Cabibbo favored B‾0→D+π−\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}π^{-} and the Cabibbo suppressed B‾0→D+K−\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}K^{-} decays. We find B(B‾0→D+π−)=(2.48±0.01±0.09±0.04)×10−3\mathcal{B}(\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}π^{-}) = (2.48 \pm 0.01 \pm 0.09 \pm 0.04) \times 10^{-3} and B(B‾0→D+K−)=(2.03±0.05±0.07±0.03)×10−4\mathcal{B}(\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}K^{-})= (2.03 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.03) \times 10^{-4} decays, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third uncertainty is due to the D+→K−π+π+D^{+} \rightarrow K^{-}π^{+}π^{+} branching fraction. The ratio of branching fractions of B‾0→D+K−\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}K^{-} and B‾0→D+π−\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}π^{-} is measured to be RD=[8.19±0.20(stat)±0.23(syst)]×10−2R^{D} = [8.19 \pm 0.20(\rm stat) \pm 0.23(\rm syst)] \times 10^{-2} . The first structure is consistent with the X(3915)X(3915) or the χc2(3930)χ_{c2}(3930), and the local statistical significance is determined to be 3.1σ3.1σ with the systematic uncertainties included. Combined analysis of Belle and Belle II data to determine the CKM angle ϕ3 ϕ_{3} using B+→D(KS0h−h+)h+B^+ \to D(K_{S}^0 h^- h^+) h^+ decays

We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle angle ϕ3 ϕ_{3} (also known as~γγ) using a model-independent Dalitz plot analysis of \linebreak B+→D(KS0h+h−)h+B^+\to D\left(K_{S}^{0}h^{+}h^{-}\right)h^+, where DD is either a D0D^0 or Dˉ0\bar{D}{}^0 meson and hh is either a ππ or KK. This is the first measurement that simultaneously uses Belle and Belle~II data, combining samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of \SI{711}{fb^{-1}} and \SI{128}{fb^{-1}}, respectively. All data were accumulated from energy-asymmetric e+e−e^+e^- collisions at a centre-of-mass energy corresponding to the mass of the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance. We measure ϕ3=(78.4±11.4±0.5±1.0)∘ϕ_3 = \left(78.4 \pm 11.4 \pm 0.5 \pm 1.0 \right)^{\circ}, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is from the uncertainties on external measurements of the DD-decay strong-phase parameters.

Measurements of the branching fractions of Ξc0→ΛKS0Ξ_c^0 \to ΛK_S^0, Ξc0→Σ0KS0Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^0 K_S^0, and Ξc0→Σ+K−Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^+ K^- decays at Belle

Using the entire data sample of 980 fb−1980\mathrm{~fb}^{-1} collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider, we present measurements of the branching fractions of the Cabibbo-favored decays Ξc0→ΛKS0Ξ_c^0 \to ΛK_S^0, Ξc0→Σ0KS0Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^0 K_S^0, and Ξc0→Σ+K−Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^+ K^-. Taking the decay $Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- \pip$ as the normalization mode, we measure the branching fraction ratio B(Ξc0→ΛKS0)/B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+)=0.229±0.008±0.012{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to ΛK_S^0)/{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- π^+) = 0.229\pm0.008\pm0.012 with improved precision, and measure the branching fraction ratios B(Ξc0→Σ0KS0)/B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+)=0.038±0.006±0.004{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^0 K_S^0)/{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- π^+) = 0.038\pm0.006\pm0.004 and B(Ξc0→Σ+K−)/B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+)=0.123±0.007±0.010{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^+ K^-)/{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- π^+) = 0.123\pm0.007\pm0.010 for the first time. Taking into account the branching fraction of the normalization mode, the absolute branching fractions are determined to be B(Ξc0→ΛKS0)=(3.27±0.11±0.17±0.73)×10−3{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to ΛK_S^0) = (3.27\pm0.11\pm0.17\pm0.73) \times 10^{-3}, B(Ξc0→Σ0KS0)=(0.54±0.09±0.06±0.12)×10−3{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^0 K_S^0) = (0.54\pm 0.09\pm 0.06\pm 0.12) \times 10^{-3}, and B(Ξc0→Σ+K−)=(1.76±0.10±0.14±0.39)×10−3{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^+ K^-) = (1.76\pm 0.10\pm0.14\pm 0.39) \times 10^{-3}. The first and second uncertainties above are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third ones arise from the uncertainty of the branching fraction of Ξc0→Ξ−π+Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- π^+.

Search for B0B^0 meson decays into ΛΛ and missing energy with a hadronic tagging method at Belle

We present a search for the decays of B0B^0 mesons into a final state containing a ΛΛ baryon and missing energy. These results are obtained from a 711fb−1711\text{fb}^{-1} data sample that contains 772×106772 \times 10^6 BB‾B{\kern 0.18em}\overline{\kern -0.18em B} pairs and was collected near the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider. We use events in which one BB meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode and require the remainder of the event to consist of only a single ΛΛ. No evidence for these decays is found and we set 90%90\% confidence level upper limits on the branching fractions in the range 2.12.1-3.8×10−53.8\times 10^{-5}. This measurement provides the world's most restrictive limits, with implications for baryogenesis and dark matter production.

In the absence of a signal, 90%90\% confidence-level upper limits are set on the branching fractions of these decays in the range (1.8(1.8-4.0)×10−84.0)\times 10^{-8}. A calibration of the Belle II hadronic tag-side reconstruction algorithm with B→XℓνB \rightarrow X\ell ν decays

Tag-side reconstruction is an important method for reconstructing BB meson decays with missing energy. The Belle II tag-side reconstruction algorithm, Full Event Interpretation, relies on a hierarchical reconstruction of BB meson decays with multivariate classification employed at each stage of reconstruction. Given the large numbers of classifiers employed and decay chains reconstructed, the performance of the algorithm on data and simulation differs significantly. Here, calibration factors are derived for hadronic tag-side BB decays by measuring a signal side decay, B→XℓνB \rightarrow X\ell ν, in 34.634.6 fb−1^{-1} of Belle II data. For a very loose selection on the tag-side BB multivariate classifier, the calibration factors are 0.65±0.020.65 \pm 0.02 and 0.83±0.030.83 \pm 0.03 for tag-side B+B^{+} and B0B^{0} mesons, respectively.

Charmless BB decay reconstruction in 2019 Belle II data

We report on the reconstruction of various charmless BB decays from electron-positron collisions at the energy corresponding to the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We use simulation to devise optimized event selections and apply them to the full data set collected in 2019, corresponding to 8.7\,fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. We fit the difference between half of the collision energy and the BB candidate energy (in the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) frame) for events restricted to a signal-rich range in beam-energy-constrained mass to search for charmless signals. Signal yields of approximately 80, 15, 20, 30, 90, and 160 decays are reconstructed for the channels B0→K+π−B^0 \to K^+π^-, B0→π+π−B^0 \to π^+π^-, B+→KS0(→π+π−)π+B^+ \to K^0_S(\to π^+π^-)π^+, B+→K+π0(→γγ)B^+ \to K^+π^0(\to γγ), B+→K+K−K+B^+ \to K^+K^-K^+, and B+→K+π−π+B^+ \to K^+π^-π^+, respectively. Yields and background contaminations are compatible with those expected from simulation and comparable with those obtained by the Belle experiment. The results show a good understanding of the detector performance and offer a reliable basis to assess projections for future reach.

Dalitz analysis of D0→K−π+ηD^{0}\to K^{-}π^{+}η decays at Belle

We present the results of the first Dalitz plot analysis of the decay D0→K−π+ηD^{0}\to K^{-}π^{+}η. The analysis is performed on a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 953 fb−1\rm{fb}^{-1} collected by the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy e+e−e^{+}e^{-} KEKB collider. The Dalitz plot is well described by a combination of the six resonant decay channels Kˉ∗(892)0η\bar{K}^{*}(892)^0η, K−a0(980)+K^{-}a_0(980)^+, K−a2(1320)+K^{-}a_2(1320)^+, Kˉ∗(1410)0η\bar{K}^{*}(1410)^0η, K∗(1680)−π+K^{*}(1680)^-π^{+} and K2∗(1980)−π+K_2^{*}(1980)^-π^{+}, together with KπKπ and KηKη S-wave components. The decays K∗(1680)−→K−ηK^{*}(1680)^{-}\to K^{-}η and K2∗(1980)−→K−ηK_{2}^{*}(1980)^{-}\to K^{-}η are observed for the first time. We measure ratio of the branching fractions, B(D0→K−π+η)B(D0→K−π+)=0.500±0.002(stat)±0.020(syst)±0.003(BPDG)\frac{\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\to K^{-}π^{+}η)}{\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\to K^{-}π^{+})}=0.500\pm0.002{\rm(stat)}\pm0.020{\rm(syst)}\pm0.003{\rm (\mathcal{B}_{PDG})}. Using the Dalitz fit result, the ratio B(K∗(1680)→Kη)B(K∗(1680)→Kπ)\frac{\mathcal{B}(K^{*}(1680)\to Kη)}{\mathcal{B}(K^{*}(1680)\to Kπ)} is measured to be 0.11±0.02(stat)−0.04+0.06(syst)±0.04(BPDG)0.11\pm0.02{\rm(stat)}^{+0.06}_{-0.04}{\rm(syst)}\pm0.04{\rm(\mathcal{B}_{\text{PDG}})}; this is much lower than the theoretical expectations (≈1\approx1) made under the assumption that K∗(1680)K^{*}(1680) is a pure 13D11^{3}D_1 state. The product branching fraction B(D0→[K2∗(1980)−→K−η]π+)=(2.2−1.9+1.7)×10−4\mathcal{B}(D^0\to [K_2^{*}(1980)^-\to K^{-}η]π^{+})=(2.2^{+1.7}_{-1.9})\times10^{-4} is determined. In addition, the πη′πη^{\prime} contribution to the a0(980)±a_0(980)^{\pm} resonance shape is confirmed with 10.1σσ statistical significance using the three-channel Flatté model. We also measure B(D0→Kˉ∗(892)0η)=(1.41−0.12+0.13)%\mathcal{B}(D^0\to\bar{K}^{*}(892)^0η)=(1.41^{+0.13}_{-0.12})\%. This is consistent with, and more precise than, the current world average (1.02±0.30)%(1.02\pm0.30)\%, deviates with a significance of more than 3σ3σ from the theoretical predictions of (0.51-0.92)%.

We find evidence for an enhancement with a 3.4σσ significance in the invariant mass of Ds+Ds2∗(2573)−+c.c.D^+_sD^*_{s2}(2573)^- +c.c. The measured mass and width are (4619.8−8.0+8.9(stat.)±2.3(syst.)) MeV/c2(4619.8^{+8.9}_{-8.0}({\rm stat.})\pm2.3({\rm syst.}))~{\rm MeV}/c^{2} and (47.0−14.8+31.3(stat.)±4.6(syst.)) MeV(47.0^{+31.3}_{-14.8}({\rm stat.})\pm4.6({\rm syst.}))~{\rm MeV}, respectively. First flavor tagging calibration using 2019 Belle II data

We report on the first calibration of the standard Belle II BB-flavor tagger using the full data set collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4{\rm S}) resonance in 2019 with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider, corresponding to 8.7 fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. The calibration is performed by reconstructing various hadronic charmed BB-meson decays with flavor-specific final states. We use simulation to optimize our event selection criteria and to train the flavor tagging algorithm. We determine the tagging efficiency and the fraction of wrongly identified tag-side BB~candidates from a measurement of the time-integrated B0−B‾0B^0-\overline{B}^0 mixing probability. The total effective efficiency is measured to be εeff=(33.8±3.6(stat)±1.6(sys))%\varepsilon_{\rm eff} = \big(33.8 \pm 3.6(\text{stat}) \pm 1.6(\text{sys})\big)\%, which is in good agreement with the predictions from simulation and comparable with the best one obtained by the Belle experiment. The first dedicated search for the ηc2(1D)η_{c2}(1D) is carried out using the decays B+→ηc2(1D)K+B^+ \rightarrow η_{c2}(1D) K^+, B0→ηc2(1D)KS0B^0 \rightarrow η_{c2}(1D) K^0_S, B0→ηc2(1D)π−K+B^0 \rightarrow η_{c2}(1D) π^- K^+, and B+→ηc2(1D)π+KS0B^+ \rightarrow η_{c2}(1D) π^+ K^0_S with ηc2(1D)→hcγη_{c2}(1D) \to h_c γ. No significant signal is found. For the ηc2(1D)η_{c2}(1D) mass range between 37953795 and 3845 MeV/c23845\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^2, the branching-fraction upper limits are determined to be B(B+→ηc2(1D)K+)×B(ηc2(1D)→hcγ)<3.7×10−5\mathcal{B}(B^+ \rightarrow η_{c2}(1D) K^+) \times \mathcal{B}(η_{c2}(1D) \to h_c γ) < 3.7 \times 10^{-5}, B(B0→ηc2(1D)KS0)×B(ηc2(1D)→hcγ)<3.5×10−5\mathcal{B}(B^0 \rightarrow η_{c2}(1D) K^0_S) \times \mathcal{B}(η_{c2}(1D) \to h_c γ) < 3.5 \times 10^{-5}, B(B0→ηc2(1D)π−K+)×B(ηc2(1D)→hcγ)<1.0×10−4\mathcal{B}(B^0 \rightarrow η_{c2}(1D) π^- K^+) \times \mathcal{B}(η_{c2}(1D) \to h_c γ) < 1.0 \times 10^{-4}, and B(B+→ηc2(1D)π+KS0)×B(ηc2(1D)→hcγ)<1.1×10−4\mathcal{B}(B^+ \rightarrow η_{c2}(1D) π^+ K^0_S) \times \mathcal{B}(η_{c2}(1D) \to h_c γ) < 1.1 \times 10^{-4} at 90% C. Measurement of Hadronic Mass Moments ⟨MXn⟩\langle M_X^n \rangle in B→XcℓνB \rightarrow X_c \ell ν Decays at Belle II

We present measurements of the first six hadronic mass moments in semileptonic B→XcℓνB \rightarrow X_c \ell ν decays. The hadronic mass moments, together with other observables of inclusive BB decays, can be used to determine the CKM matrix element ∣Vcb∣|{V_{cb}}| and mass of the bb-quark mbm_b in the context of Heavy Quark Expansions of QCD. The Belle~II data recorded at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance in 2019 and 2020 (March-July), corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 34.6  fb−134.6\;\mathrm{fb}^{-1}, is used for this measurement. The decay Υ(4S)→BB‾Υ(4S) \rightarrow B \overline{B} is reconstructed by applying the hadronic tagging algorithm provided by the Full Event Interpretation to fully reconstruct one BB meson. The second BB meson is reconstructed inclusively by selecting a high-momentum lepton. The XcX_c system is identified by the remaining reconstructed tracks and clusters in the electromagnetic calorimeter. We report preliminary results for the hadronic mass moments ⟨MXn⟩\langle M_X^n \rangle with n=1,…,6n=1,\dots,6, measured as a function of a lower cut on the lepton momentum in the signal BB rest frame.

Measurement of the B0B^0 lifetime using fully reconstructed hadronic decays in the 2019 Belle II dataset

This document presents the measurement of B0B^0 meson lifetimes using the 2019 Belle II dataset that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 8.7±0.28.7 \pm 0.2 fb−1^{-1}. Each candidate is fully reconstructed with hadronic decay final states on the signal side, while the rest-of-event technique allows to infer the decay vertex position on the other (tag) side. B0B^0 lifetime is extracted from an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the distribution of the difference between the signal side B0B^0 candidate and the tag side decay times. The measured lifetime is τB0=1.48±0.28±0.06τ_{B^0} = 1.48 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.06 ps, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Measurement of the branching fraction B(Bˉ0→D∗+ℓ−νˉℓ){\cal B}(\bar B^0\to D^{*+}\ell^-\barν_\ell) with early Belle II data

We measure the branching fractions for the decays Bˉ0→D∗+e−νˉe\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} e^{-} \barν_e and Bˉ0→D∗+μ−νˉμ\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} μ^{-} \barν_μ using 8.70±0.09 fb−18.70 \pm 0.09~{\rm fb}^{-1} of data collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+ e^- collider. Candidate signal decays are reconstructed with the subsequent decays D∗+→D0π+D^{*+}\to D^0 π^+ and D0→K−π+D^0\to K^-π^+. Measurement of two-particle correlations in hadronic e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collisions at Belle

The enhancement of charged-particle pairs with large pseudorapidity difference and small azimuthal angle difference, often referred to as the ``ridge signal'', is a phenomenon widely observed in high multiplicity proton-proton, proton-ion and deutron-ion collisions, which is not yet fully understood. In heavy-ion collisions, the hydrodynamic expansion of the Quark-Gluon Plasma is one of the possible explanations of the origin of the ridge signal. Measurements in the e+e−e^+e^- collision system, without the complexities introduced by hadron structure in the initial state, can serve as a complementary probe to examine the formation of a ridge signal. The first measurement of two-particle angular correlation functions in high multiplicity e+e−e^+e^- collisions at s=10.52\sqrt{s}=10.52 GeV is reported. The hadronic e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data collected by the Belle detector at KEKB are used in this study. Two-particle angular correlation functions are measured over the full azimuth and large pseudorapidity intervals which are defined by either the electron beam axis or the event thrust as a function of charged particle multiplicity. The measurement in the event thrust analysis, with mostly outgoing quark pairs determining the reference axis, is sensitive to the region of additional soft gluon emissions. No significant ridge signal is observed with either coordinates analyses. Near side jet correlations appear to be absent in the thrust axis analysis. The measurements are compared to predictions from various event generators and expected to provide new constraints to the phenomenological models in the low energy regime.

Measurements of branching fractions and CP-violating charge asymmetries in charmless BB decays reconstructed in 2019--2020 Belle~II data

We report on first measurements of branching fractions~(B\mathcal{B}) and CP-violating charge asymmetries~(A\mathcal{A}) in charmless BB decays at Belle~II. We use a sample of electron-positron collisions collected in 2019 and 2020 at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance and corresponding to 34.634.6\,fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. We use simulation to determine optimized event selections. The ΔEΔE distributions of the resulting samples, restricted in MbcM_{\rm bc}, are fit to determine signal yields. Signal yields are corrected for efficiencies determined from simulation and control data samples to obtain branching fractions and CP-violating asymmetries for flavour-specific channels. These are the first measurements in charmless decays reported by Belle~II. Results are compatible with known determinations and show detector performance comparable with the best Belle results offering a reliable basis to assess projections for future reach.

Measurements of the Absolute Branching Fractions of B±→K±XccˉB^\pm \to K^\pm X_{c\bar c}

A study of the two body decays B±→XccˉK±B^\pm\rightarrow X_{c\bar c}K^\pm, where Xccˉ_{c\bar c} refers to one charmonium state, is reported by BaBar collaboration using a data sample of 424 fb−1^{-1}. The absolute determination of branching fractions for these decays are significantly improved compared to previous BaBaR measurements. Evidence is found for the decay B+→X(3872)K+B^+\rightarrow X(3872)K^+ at the 3σ3σ level. The absolute branching fraction B(B+→X(3872)K+)=(2.1±0.6(stat)±0.3(syst))×10−4{\cal B}(B^+\rightarrow X(3872)K^+) = (2.1\pm0.6({\rm stat})\pm0.3({\rm syst}))\times 10^{-4} is measured for the first time. It follows that B(X(3872)→J/ψπ+π−)=(4.1±1.3)%{\cal B}(X(3872)\rightarrow J/ψπ^+π^-)=(4.1\pm1.3)\%, supporting the hypothesis of a molecular component for this resonance.

Rediscovery of B→ϕK(∗)B \to ϕK^{(*)} decays and measurement of the longitudinal polarization fraction fLf_L in B→ϕK∗B \to ϕK^{*} decays using the Summer 2020 Belle II dataset

We utilize a sample of 34.6 fb−1^{-1}, collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric energy e+e−e^+e^- collider, to search for the B+→ϕK+B^+ \to ϕK^+, B+→ϕK∗+B^+ \to ϕK^{*+}, B0→ϕKS0B^0 \to ϕK^0_S, and B0→ϕK∗0B^0 \to ϕK^{*0} decays. Charmless hadronic BB decays represent an important part of the Belle II physics program, and are an ideal benchmark to test the detector capabilities in terms of tracking efficiency, charged particle identification, vertexing, and advanced analysis techniques. Each channel is observed with a significance that exceeds 5 standard deviations, and we obtain measurements of their branching ratios that are in good agreement with the world averages. For the B→ϕK∗B \to ϕK^* modes, we also perform a measurement of the longitudinal polarization fraction fLf_L.

Search for an invisibly decaying Z′Z^{\prime} boson at Belle II in e+e−→μ+μ−(e±μ∓)e^+ e^- \to μ^+ μ^- (e^{\pm} μ^{\mp}) plus missing energy final states

Theories beyond the standard model often predict the existence of an additional neutral boson, the Z′Z^{\prime}. Using data collected by the Belle II experiment during 2018 at the SuperKEKB collider, we perform the first searches for the invisible decay of a Z′Z^{\prime} in the process e+e−→μ+μ−Z′e^+ e^- \to μ^+ μ^- Z^{\prime} and of a lepton-flavor-violating Z′Z^{\prime} in e+e−→e±μ∓Z′e^+ e^- \to e^{\pm} μ^{\mp} Z^{\prime}. We do not find any excess of events and set 90\% credibility level upper limits on the cross sections of these processes. We translate the former, in the framework of an Lμ−LτL_μ-L_τ theory, into upper limits on the Z′Z^{\prime} coupling constant at the level of 5×10−25 \times 10^{-2} -- 11 MZ′≤6M_{Z^\prime}\leq 6 GeV/c2c^2.

Search for the Decay Bs0→η′ηB_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η

In the Standard Model (SM) charmless hadronic decays Bs0→η′ηB_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η proceed via tree-level b→ub\to u and penguin b→sb\to s transitions. Penguin transitions are sensitive to Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics scenarios and could affect the branching fractions and {\it CP} asymmetries in such decays. Once branching fractions for two-body decays Bs→ηη,ηη′,η′η′B_s \to ηη, ηη^{\prime}, η^{\prime}η^{\prime} are measured, and the theoretical uncertainties are reduced, it would be possible to extract {\it CP} violating parameters from the data using the formalism based on SU(3)/U(3) symmetry. To achieve this goal, at least four of these six branching fractions need to be measured. Only the branching fraction for Bs0→η′η′B_s^0 \to η^{\prime}η^{\prime} has been measured so far.

We report a measurement of the Bˉ0→D∗+ℓ−νˉl\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} \ell^{-} \barν_l branching fraction and obtain B(Bˉ0→D∗+ℓ−νˉl)=(4.60±0.05stat±0.17syst±0.45πs)%{\cal B}(\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} \ell^{-} \barν_l) = \left(4.60 \pm 0.05_{\mathrm{stat}}\pm0.17_{\mathrm{syst}} \pm 0.45_{π_s}\right) \%, in agreement with the world average. Here, the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and related to slow pion reconstruction, respectively. The systematic uncertainties are limited by the statistics of auxiliary measurements and will improve in the future. We also report differential branching fractions in five bins of the hadronic recoil parameter ww for Bˉ0→D∗+ℓ−νˉl\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} \ell^{-} \barν_l, unfolded to account for resolution and efficiency effects.

Update of inclusive cross sections of single and pairs of identified light charged hadrons

We report new measurements of the production cross sections of pairs of charged pions and kaons as a function of their fractional energies using various fractional-energy definitions. Two different fractional-energy definitions were used and compared to the conventional fractional-energy definition reported previously. The new variables aim at either identifying dihadron cross sections in terms of single-hadron fragmentation functions, or to provide a means of characterizing the transverse momentum created in the fragmentation process. The results were obtained applying the updated initial-state radiation correction used in other recent Belle publications on light-hadron production cross sections. In addition, production cross sections of single charged pions, kaons, and protons were also updated using this initial-state radiation correction. The cross sections are obtained from a 558 fb−1558\,{\rm fb}^{-1} data sample collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+ e^- collider.

We report a new simultaneous measurement of R(D)\mathcal{R}(D) and R(D∗)\mathcal{R}(D^*), based on a data sample containing 772×106772 \times 10^6 BBˉB\bar{B} events recorded at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e−e^+ e^- collider. In this analysis the tag-side BB meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode and the signal-side ττ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The measured values are R(D)=0.307±0.037±0.016\mathcal{R}(D)= 0.307 \pm 0.037 \pm 0.016 and R(D∗)=0.283±0.018±0.014\mathcal{R}(D^*) = 0.283 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.014, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions within 0.20.2, 1.11.1 and 0.80.8 standard deviations for R(D)\mathcal{R}(D), R(D∗)\mathcal{R}(D^*) and their combination, respectively. Using a data sample of 921.9 fb−1^{-1} collected with the Belle detector, we study the process of e+e−→Ds+Ds1(2536)−+c.c.e^+e^-\to D^+_sD_{s1}(2536)^-+c.c. via initial-state radiation. We report the first observation of a vector charmoniumlike state decaying to Ds+Ds1(2536)−+c.c.D^+_sD_{s1}(2536)^-+c.c. with a significance of 5.9σσ, including the systematic uncertainties. The measured mass and width are (4625.9−6.0+6.2(stat.)±0.4(syst.)) MeV/c2(4625.9^{+6.2}_{-6.0}({\rm stat.})\pm0.4({\rm syst.}))~{\rm MeV}/c^{2} and (49.8−11.5+13.9(stat.)±4.0(syst.)) MeV(49.8^{+13.9}_{-11.5}({\rm stat.})\pm4.0({\rm syst.}))~{\rm MeV}, respectively. The product of the e+e−→Ds+Ds1(2536)−+c.c.e^+e^-\to D^+_sD_{s1}(2536)^-+c.c. cross section and the branching fraction of Ds1(2536)−→Dˉ∗0K−D_{s1}(2536)^-\to{\bar D}^{*0}K^- is measured from the DsDˉs1(2536)D_s \bar{D}_{s1}(2536) threshold to 5.59~GeV.

Observation of the radiative decays of Υ(1S)Υ(1S) to χc1χ_{c1}

We report the first observation of the radiative decay of the Υ(1S)Υ(1S) into a charmonium state. The statistical significance of the observed signal of Υ(1S)→γχc1Υ(1S) \to γχ_{c1} is 6.3 standard deviations including systematics. The branching fraction is calculated to be Br(Υ(1S)→γχc1Υ(1S) \to γχ_{c1}) = (4.7^{+2.4}_{-1.8} (stat) ^{+0.4}_{-0.5} (sys)) * 10^{-5}. We also searched for Υ(1S)Υ(1S) radiative decays into χc0,2χ_{c0,2} and ηc(1S,2S)η_c(1S,2S) and set upper limits on their branching fractions. These results are obtained from a 24.9 fb^{-1} data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider at a center-of-mass energy equal to the Υ(2S)Υ(2S) mass using Υ(1S)Υ(1S) tagging by the Υ(2S)→Υ(1S)π+π−Υ(2S) \to Υ(1S) π^+π^- transitions.

Search for B+→μ+ νμB^+ \to μ^+\, ν_μ and B+→μ+ NB^+ \to μ^+\, N with inclusive tagging

We report the result for a search for the leptonic decay of B+→μ+ νμB^+ \to μ^+ \, ν_μ using the full Belle data set of 711 fb−1{}^{-1} of integrated luminosity at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance. In the Standard Model leptonic BB-meson decays are helicity and CKM suppressed. To maximize sensitivity an inclusive tagging approach is used to reconstruct the second BB meson produced in the collision. The directional information from this second BB meson is used to boost the observed μμ into the signal BB meson rest-frame, in which the μμ has a monochromatic momentum spectrum. Though its momentum is smeared by the experimental resolution, this technique improves the analysis sensitivity considerably. Analyzing the μμ momentum spectrum in this frame we find B(B+→μ+ νμ)=(5.3±2.0±0.9)×10−7\mathcal{B}(B^+ \to μ^+ \, ν_μ) = \left( 5.3 \pm 2.0 \pm 0.9 \right) \times 10^{-7} with a one-sided significance of 2.8 standard deviations over the background-only hypothesis. This translates to a frequentist upper limit of B(B+→μ+ νμ)<8.6×10−7\mathcal{B}(B^+ \to μ^+ \, ν_μ) < 8.6 \times 10^{-7} at 90% CL. The experimental spectrum is then used to search for a massive sterile neutrino, B+→μ+ NB^+ \to μ^+ \, N, but no evidence is observed for a sterile neutrino with a mass in a range of 0 - 1.5 GeV. The determined B+→μ+ νμB^+ \to μ^+ \, ν_μ branching fraction limit is further used to constrain the mass and coupling space of the type II and type III two-Higgs-doublet models.

Angular analysis of B0→K∗(892)0ℓ+ℓ−B^0 \to K^\ast(892)^0 \ell^+ \ell^-

The analysis is performed on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711 fb−1711~\mathrm{fb}^{-1} containing 772×106772\times 10^{6} BBˉB\bar B pairs, collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider KEKB. Four angular observables, P4,5,6,8′P_{4,5,6,8}' are extracted in five bins of the invariant mass squared of the lepton system, q2q^2. We compare our results for P4,5,6,8′P_{4,5,6,8}' with Standard Model predictions including the q2q^2 region in which the LHCb collaboration reported the so-called P5′P_5' anomaly.

Energy scan of the e+e−→hb(nP)π+π−e^+e^- \to h_b(nP)π^+π^- (n=1,2)(n=1,2) cross sections and evidence for Υ(11020)Υ(11020) decays into charged bottomonium-like states

Using data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider, we measure the energy dependence of the e+e−→hb(nP)π+π−e^+e^- \to h_b(nP)π^+π^- (n=1,2)(n=1,2) cross sections from thresholds up to 11.02 11.02\,GeV. We find clear Υ(10860)Υ(10860) and Υ(11020)Υ(11020) peaks with little or no continuum contribution. We study the resonant substructure of the Υ(11020)→hb(nP)π+π−Υ(11020) \to h_b(nP)π^+π^- transitions and find evidence that they proceed entirely via the intermediate isovector states Zb(10610)Z_b(10610) and Zb(10650)Z_b(10650). The relative fraction of these states is loosely constrained by the current data: the hypothesis that only Zb(10610)Z_b(10610) is produced is excluded at the level of 3.3 standard deviations, while the hypothesis that only Zb(10650)Z_b(10650) is produced is not excluded at a significant level.

Inclusive and exclusive measurements of BB decays to χc1χ_{c1} and χc2χ_{c2} at Belle

We report inclusive and exclusive measurements for χc1χ_{c1} and χc2χ_{c2} production in BB decays. We measure B(B→χc1X)\mathcal{B}(B \to χ_{c1} X)= $(3.03 \pm 0.05(\mbox{stat}) \pm 0.24(\mbox{syst})) \times 10^{-3}$ and B(B→χc2X)\mathcal{B}(B \to χ_{c2} X)= $(0.70 \pm 0.06(\mbox{stat}) \pm 0.10(\mbox{syst})) \times 10^{-3}$. For the first time, χc2χ_{c2} production in exclusive BB decays in the modes B0→χc2π−K+B^0 \to χ_{c2}π^- K^+ and B+→χc2π+π−K+B^+ \to χ_{c2} π^+ π^- K^+ has been observed, along with first evidence for the B+→χc2π+KS0B^+ \to χ_{c2} π^+ K_S^0 decay mode. For χc1χ_{c1} production, we report the first observation in the B+→χc1π+π−K+B^+ \to χ_{c1} π^+ π^- K^+, B0→χc1π+π−KS0B^0 \to χ_{c1} π^+ π^- K_S^0 and B0→χc1π0π−K+B^0 \to χ_{c1} π^0 π^- K^+ decay modes. Observation of Transverse Λ/ΛˉΛ/\barΛ Hyperon Polarization in e+e−e^+e^- Annihilation at Belle

We report the first observation of the polarization of Λ/ΛˉΛ/\barΛ hyperons transverse to its production plane in e+e−e^+e^- annihilation. We observe a significant polarization that rises with the fractional energy carried by the hyperon as well as its transverse momentum. To define the production plane, we use the direction of the hyperon momentum together with either the thrust axis in the event or the momentum vector of a hadron in the opposite hemisphere. Furthermore, we investigate the contributions to the hyperon polarization from the feed-down from Σ0/Σˉ0Σ^0/\barΣ^0 and Λc±Λ_c^{\pm} decays. This measurement uses a dataset of 800.4fb−1^{-1} collected by the Belle experiment at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV.

Search for XYZXYZ states in Υ(1S)Υ(1S) inclusive decays

The branching fractions of the Υ(1S)Υ(1S) inclusive decays into final states with a J/ψJ/ψ or a ψ(2S)ψ(2S) are measured with improved precision to be $\BR(Υ(1S)\to J/ψ+ {\rm anything})=(5.25\pm 0.13(\mathrm{stat.})\pm 0.25(\mathrm{syst.}))\times 10^{-4}$ and $\BR(Υ(1S)\to ψ(2S) + {\rm anything})=(1.23\pm 0.17(\mathrm{stat.})\pm 0.11(\mathrm{syst.}))\times 10^{-4}$. The first search for Υ(1S)Υ(1S) decays into XYZXYZ states that decay into a J/ψJ/ψ or a ψ(2S)ψ(2S) plus one or two charged tracks yields no significant signals for XYZXYZ states in any of the examined decay modes, and upper limits on their production rates in Υ(1S)Υ(1S) inclusive decays are determined.

We report a measurement of the differential cross section of π0π^0 pair production in single-tag two-photon collisions, γ∗γ→π0π0γ^* γ\to π^0 π^0, in e+e−e^+ e^- scattering. The cross section is measured for Q2Q^2 up to 30 GeV2^2, where Q2Q^2 is the negative of the invariant mass squared of the tagged photon, in the kinematic range 0.5 GeV < W < 2.1 GeV and ∣cos⁡θ∗∣|\cos θ^*| < 1.0 for the total energy and pion scattering angle, respectively, in the γ∗γγ^* γ center-of-mass system. The results are based on a data sample of 759 fb−1^{-1} collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+ e^- collider. The transition form factor of the f0(980)f_0(980) and that of the f2(1270)f_2(1270) with the helicity-0, -1, and -2 components separately are measured for the first time and are compared with theoretical calculations.

Study of χ_{bJ}(1P) Properties in the Radiative Υ(2S) Decays

We report a study of radiative decays of χ_{bJ}(1P)(J=0,1,2) mesons into 74 hadronic final states comprising charged and neutral pions, kaons, protons; out of these, 41 modes are observed with at least 5 standard deviation significance. Our measurements not only improve the previous measurements by the CLEO Collaboration but also lead to first observations in many new modes. The large sample allows us to probe the total decay width of the χ_{b0}(1P). In the absence of a statistically significant result, a 90% confidence-level upper limit is set on the width at Γ_{total}< 2.4 MeV. Our results are based on 24.7 fb^{-1} of e+e- collision data recorded by the Belle detector at the Υ(2S) resonance, corresponding to (157.8\pm3.6)\times10^6 Υ(2S) decays.

Inclusive cross sections for pairs of identified light charged hadrons and for single protons in e+e−e^+e^- at s=\sqrt{s}= 10.58 GeV

We report the first double differential cross sections of two charged pions and kaons (e+e−→hhXe^+e^- \rightarrow hhX) in electron-positron annihilation as a function of the fractional energies of the two hadrons for any charge and hadron combination. The dependence of these di-hadron cross sections on the topology (same, opposite-hemisphere or anywhere) is also studied with the help of the event shape variable thrust and its axis. The ratios of these di-hadron cross sections for different charges and hadron combinations directly shed light on the contributing fragmentation functions. For example, we find that the ratio of same-sign pion pairs over opposite-sign pion pairs drops toward higher fractional energies where disfavored fragmentation is expected to be suppressed. These di-hadron results are obtained from a 655 fb−1655\,{\rm fb}^{-1} data sample collected near the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+ e^- collider. Extending the previously published single-pion and single-kaon cross sections, single-proton (e+e−→pXe^+e^- \rightarrow pX) cross sections are extracted from a 159 fb−1159\,{\rm fb}^{-1} data sub-sample.

Measurement of Azimuthal Modulations in the Cross-Section of Di-Pion Pairs in Di-Jet Production from Electron-Positron Annihilation

We present an extraction of azimuthal correlations between two pairs of charged pions detected in opposite jets from electron-positron annihilation. These correlations may arise from the dependence of the di-pion fragmentation on the polarization of the parent quark in the process e+e−→qqˉe^+e^- \rightarrow q \bar{q}. Due to the correlation of the quark polarizations, the cross-section of di-pion pair production, in which the pion pairs are detected in opposite jets in a dijet event, exhibits a modulation in the azimuthal angles of the planes containing the hadron pairs with respect to the production plane. The measurement of this modulation allows access to combinations of fragmentation functions that are sensitive to the quark's transverse polarization and helicity. Within our uncertainties we do not observe a significant signal from the previously unmeasured helicity dependent fragmentation function G1⊥G_1^\perp. This measurement uses a dataset of 938~fb−1^{-1} collected by the Belle experiment at or near s≈10.58\sqrt{s}\approx10.58 GeV.

We report a measurement of the amplitude ratio rSr_S of B0→D0K∗0B^0 \to D^0K^{*0} and B0→D0ˉK∗0B^0 \to \bar{D^0}K^{*0} decays with a model-independent Dalitz plot analysis using D→KS0π+π−D\to K_S^0π^+π^- decays. Using the full data sample of 772×106772\times10^6 BBˉB\bar{B} pairs collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB accelerator the upper limit is rS<0.87r_S < 0.87 at the 68 % confidence level. This result is the first measurement of rSr_S with a model-independent Dalitz analysis, and is consistent with results from other analyses. The value of rSr_S indicates the sensitivity of the decay to ϕ3ϕ_3 because the statistical uncertainty is proportional to 1/rS1/r_S. The rSr_S result is obtained from observables (x±x_\pm, y±y_\pm) \begin{eqnarray} x_- &=& +0.4 ^{+1.0 +0.0}_{-0.6 -0.1} \pm0.0 \\ y_- &=& -0.6 ^{+0.8 +0.1}_{-1.0 -0.0} \pm0.1 \\ x_+ &=& +0.1 ^{+0.7 +0.0}_{-0.4 -0.1} \pm0.1 \\ y_+ &=& +0.3 ^{+0.5 +0.0}_{-0.8 -0.1} \pm0.1 \\ , \end{eqnarray} where x±=rScos⁡(δS±ϕ3)x_\pm = r_S \cos(δ_S \pm ϕ_3), y±=rSsin⁡(δS±ϕ3)y_\pm = r_S \sin(δ_S \pm ϕ_3) and ϕ3(δS)ϕ_3 (δ_S) are the weak (strong) phase difference between B0→D0K∗0B^0 \to D^0K^{*0} and B0→D0ˉK∗0B^0 \to \bar{D^0}K^{*0}. In addition, we report negative results from a search for hypothesized neutral (Z0Z^0) and doubly charged (Z++Z^{++}) isospin partners of the Ds0∗+(2317)D_{s0}^{*+}(2317) and provide upper limits on the product branching fractions B(B0→D0z0)×B(z0→Ds+π−){\mathcal B}(B^0 \rightarrow D^0 z^0)\times{\mathcal B}(z^0\rightarrow D_s^{+}π^-) and B(B+→D−z++)×B(z++→Ds+π+){\mathcal B}(B^+\rightarrow D^- z^{++})\times{\mathcal B}(z^{++}\rightarrow D_s^{+}π^+) that are more than an order of magnitude smaller than theoretical expectations for the hypotheses that the Ds0∗+(2317)D_{s0} ^{*+}(2317) is a member of an isospin triplet. The analysis uses a 711 fb−1^{-1} data sample containing 772 million BBˉB\bar{B} meson pairs collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance in the Belle detector at the KEKB collider.

Observation of B0→pΛˉD(∗)−B^{0} \rightarrow p\barΛ D^{(*)-}

We report the first observation of the decays B0→pΛˉD(∗)−B^0 \rightarrow p\barΛ D^{(*)-}. The data sample of 711711 fb−1^{-1} used in this analysis corresponds to 772772 million BBˉB\bar{B} pairs, collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collider. We observe 19.8σ19.8σ and 10.8σ10.8σ excesses of events for the two decay modes and measure the branching fractions of B0→pΛˉD−B^0 \rightarrow p\barΛ D^{-} and B0→pΛˉD∗−B^0 \rightarrow p\barΛ D^{*-} to be (25.1±2.6±3.5)×10−6(25.1\pm2.6\pm3.5)\times10^{-6} and (33.6±6.3±4.4)×10−6(33.6\pm6.3\pm4.4)\times10^{-6}, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are not compatible with the predictions based on the generalized factorization approach. In addition, a threshold enhancement in the di-baryon (pΛˉp\barΛ) system is observed, consistent with that observed in similar BB decays.

Search for B+ -> l+ nu gamma decays with hadronic tagging using the full Belle data sample

We search for the decay B+ -> l+ nu gamma with l+ = e+ or mu+ using the full Belle data set of 772 x 10^6 BBbar pairs, collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We reconstruct one B meson in a hadronic decay mode and search for the B+ -> l+ nu gamma decay in the remainder of the event. We observe no significant signal within the phase space of E_gamma^sig > 1 GeV and obtain upper limits of BR(B+ -> e+ nu gamma) < 6.1 x 10^-6, BR(B+ -> mu+ nu gamma) < 3.4 x 10^-6, and BR(B+ -> l+ nu gamma) < 3.5 x 10^-6 at 90 % credibility level.

Search for the rare decay D0→γγD^0\toγγ at Belle

We search for the rare radiative decay D0→γγD^0\toγγ using a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 832fb−1832{\rm fb^{-1}} recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e−e^+e^- asymmetric-energy collider. We find no statistically significant signal and set an upper limit on the branching fraction of B(D0→γγ)<8.5×10−7{\cal B}(D^0\toγγ)<8.5\times10^{-7} at 90%90\% confidence level. This is the most restrictive limit on the decay channel to date.

Semi-inclusive studies of semileptonic BsB_s decays at Belle

We present an analysis of the semi-inclusive decays Bs→Ds−Xℓ+νB_s \to D_s^- X \ell^+ ν and Bs→Ds∗−Xℓ+νB_s \to D_s^{*-} X \ell^+ ν, where XX denotes a final state that may consist of additional hadrons or photons and ℓ\ell is an electron or muon. The studied BsB_s decays are contained in the 121.4 fb−1121.4~{\rm fb}^{-1} Υ(5S)Υ(5S) data sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider. The branching fractions of the decays are measured to be B(Bs→Ds−Xℓ+ν)=[8.2±0.2(stat)±0.6(syst)±1.4(ext)]%\mathcal{B}(B_s \to D_s^- X \ell^+ ν) = [8.2 \pm 0.2 (\text{stat}) \pm 0.6 (\text{syst}) \pm 1.4 (\text{ext})]\% and B(Bs→Ds∗−Xℓ+ν)=[5.4±0.4(stat)±0.4(syst)±0.9(ext)]%\mathcal{B}(B_s \to D_s^{*-} X \ell^+ ν) = [5.4 \pm 0.4 (\text{stat}) \pm 0.4 (\text{syst}) \pm 0.9 (\text{ext})]\%, where the first two uncertainties are statistical and systematic and the last is due to external parameters. The measurement also provides an estimate of the Bs(∗)Bˉs(∗)B_s^{(*)}\bar{B}_s^{(*)} production cross-section, σ(e+e−→Bs(∗)Bˉs(∗))=(53.8±1.4(stat)±4.0(syst)±3.4(ext)) pbσ(e^+e^- \to B_s^{(*)}\bar{B}_s^{(*)}) = (53.8 \pm 1.4 (\text{stat}) \pm 4.0 (\text{syst}) \pm 3.4 (\text{ext}))\,{\rm pb}, at the center-of-mass energy s=10.86 GeV\sqrt{s} = 10.86\,{\rm GeV}.

Study of D∗∗D^{**} production and light hadronic states in the Bˉ0→D∗+ωπ−\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} ωπ^- decay

We report on the first observations of Bˉ0→D1(2430)0ω\bar{B}^0 \to D_1(2430)^0 ω, Bˉ0→D1(2420)0ω\bar{B}^0 \to D_1(2420)^0 ω and Bˉ0→D2∗(2460)0ω\bar{B}^0 \to D^*_2(2460)^0 ω decays. The Bˉ0→D∗+ρ(1450)−\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} ρ(1450)^- decay is also observed. The branching fraction measurements are based on (771.6±10.6)×106(771.6 \pm 10.6)\times 10^6 BBˉB\bar{B} events collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider. The fractions of longitudinal polarization of the D∗∗D^{**} states as well as partial wave fractions of the D1(2430)0D_1(2430)^0 are obtained. We also set a 90%90\% confidence level upper limit for the product of branching fractions of B(Bˉ0→D∗+b1(1235)−)×B(b1(1235)−→ωπ−)\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} b_1(1235)^-) \times \mathcal{B}(b_1(1235)^- \to ωπ^-). The measurements show evidence of nontrivial final-state interaction phases for the ρρ-like amplitudes.

The Physics of the B Factories

This work is on the Physics of the B Factories. Part A of this book contains a brief description of the SLAC and KEK B Factories as well as their detectors, BaBar and Belle, and data taking related issues. Part B discusses tools and methods used by the experiments in order to obtain results. The results themselves can be found in Part C. Please note that version 3 on the archive is the auxiliary version of the Physics of the B Factories book. This uses the notation alpha, beta, gamma for the angles of the Unitarity Triangle. The nominal version uses the notation phi_1, phi_2 and phi_3. Please cite this work as Eur. Phys. J. C74 (2014) 3026.

Evidence for the decay B0 --> omega omega and search for B0 --> omega phi

We describe searches for B meson decays to the charmless vector-vector final states omega omega and omega phi with 471 x 10^6 B Bbar pairs produced in e+ e- annihilation at sqrt(s) = 10.58 GeV using the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. We measure the branching fraction B(B0 --> omega omega) = (1.2 +- 0.3 +0.3-0.2) x 10^-6, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, corresponding to a significance of 4.4 standard deviations. We also determine the upper limit B(B0 --> omega phi) < 0.7 x 10^-6 at 90% confidence level. These measurements provide the first evidence for the decay B0 --> omega omega, and an improvement of the upper limit for the decay B0 --> omega phi.

Observation of Time Reversal Violation in the B0 Meson System

Although CP violation in the B meson system has been well established by the B factories, there has been no direct observation of time reversal violation. The decays of entangled neutral B mesons into definite flavor states (B0B^0 or Bˉ0\bar{B}^0), and J/ψKS0J/ψK_S^0 or ccˉKS0c\bar{c} K_S^0 final states (referred to as B+B_+ or B−B_-), allow comparisons between the probabilities of four pairs of T-conjugated transitions, for example, Bˉ0→B−\bar{B}^0 \rightarrow B_- and B−→Bˉ0B_- \rightarrow \bar{B}^0, as a function of the time difference between the two B decays. Using 468 million BBˉB\bar{B} pairs produced in Υ(4S)Υ(4S) decays collected by the BABAR detector at SLAC, we measure T-violating parameters in the time evolution of neutral B mesons, yielding ΔST+=−1.37±0.14(stat.)±0.06(syst.)ΔS_T^+ = -1.37 \pm 0.14 (stat.) \pm 0.06 (syst.) and ΔST−=1.17±0.18(stat.)±0.11(syst.)ΔS_T^- = 1.17 \pm 0.18 (stat.) \pm 0.11 (syst.). These nonzero results represent the first direct observation of T violation through the exchange of initial and final states in transitions that can only be connected by a T-symmetry transformation.

Search for direct CP-violation in singly-Cabibbo suppressed D+- --> K+ K- pi+- decays

We report on a search for direct CP asymmetry in the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay D+- --> K+ K- pi+- using a data sample of 476 fb-1 accumulated with the BaBar detector running at and just below the Y(4S) resonance. The CP-violating decay rate asymmetry A_CP is determined to be (0.35 +- 0.30 +- 0.15)%. Model-dependent and model-independent Dalitz plot analysis techniques are used to search for CP-violating asymmetries in the various intermediate states.

Study of the decay Bˉ0→Λc+pˉπ+π−\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΛ_{c}^{+}\bar{p}π^{+}π^{-} and its intermediate states

We study the decay Bˉ0→Λc+pˉπ+π−\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΛ_{c}^{+}\bar{p}π^{+}π^{-}, reconstructing the Λ_{c}^{+} baryon in the pK−π+p K^{-}π^{+} mode, using a data sample of 467×106467\times 10^{6} BBˉB\bar{B} pairs collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-2 storage rings at SLAC. We measure branching fractions for decays with intermediate ΣcΣ_{c} baryons to be B[Bˉ0→Σc(2455)++pˉπ−]=(21.3±1.0±1.0±5.5)×10−5{\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΣ_{c}(2455)^{++}\bar{p}π^{-}]=(21.3 \pm 1.0 \pm 1.0 \pm 5.5) \times 10^{-5}, B[Bˉ0→Σc(2520)++pˉπ−]=(11.5±1.0±0.5±3.0)×10−5{\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΣ_{c}(2520)^{++}\bar{p}π^{-}]=(11.5\pm 1.0 \pm 0.5 \pm 3.0)\times 10^{-5}, B[Bˉ0→Σc(2455)0pˉπ+]=(9.1±0.7±0.4±2.4)×10−5{\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΣ_{c}(2455)^{0}\bar{p}π^{+}]=(9.1 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.4 \pm 2.4)\times10^{-5}, and B[Bˉ0→Σc(2520)0pˉπ+]=(2.2±0.7±0.1±0.6)×10−5{\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΣ_{c}(2520)^{0}\bar{p}π^{+}]= (2.2 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.1\pm 0.6) \times 10^{-5}, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty on the $Λ_{c}^{+}\rightarrow\proton\Kmπ^{+}$ branching fraction, respectively. For decays without Σc(2455)Σ_{c}(2455) or Σc(2520)Σ_{c}(2520) resonances, we measure B[Bˉ0→Λc+pˉπ+π−]non−Σc=(79±4±4±20)×10−5{\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΛ_{c}^{+}\bar{p}π^{+}π^{-}]_{\mathrm{non-Σ_{c}}}=(79 \pm 4 \pm 4 \pm 20)\times10^{-5}. The total branching fraction is determined to be B[Bˉ0→Λc+pˉπ+π−]total=(123±5±7±32)×10−5{\cal B}[\bar{B}^{0}\rightarrowΛ_{c}^{+}\bar{p}π^{+}π^{-}]_{\mathrm{total}}=(123 \pm 5 \pm 7 \pm 32)\times10^{-5}. We examine multibody mass combinations in the resonant three-particle ΣcpˉπΣ_{c}\bar{p}π final states and in the four-particle Λc+pˉπ+π−Λ_{c}^{+}\bar{p}π^{+}π^{-} final state, and observe different characteristics for the pˉπ\bar{p}π combination in neutral versus doubly-charged ΣcΣ_{c} decays.

Branching fraction and form-factor shape measurements of exclusive charmless semileptonic B decays, and determination of |V_{ub}|

We report the results of a study of the exclusive charmless semileptonic decays, B^0 --> pi^- l^+ nu, B^+ --> pi^0 l^+ nu, B^+ --> omega l^+ nu, B^+ --> eta l^+ nu and B^+ --> eta^' l^+ nu, (l = e or mu) undertaken with approximately 462x10^6 B\bar{B} pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. The analysis uses events in which the signal B decays are reconstructed with a loose neutrino reconstruction technique. We obtain partial branching fractions in several bins of q^2, the square of the momentum transferred to the lepton-neutrino pair, for B^0 --> pi^- l^+ nu, B^+ --> pi^0 l^+ nu, B^+ --> omega l^+ nu and B^+ --> eta l^+ nu. From these distributions, we extract the form-factor shapes f_+(q^2) and the total branching fractions BF(B^0 --> pi^- l^+ nu) = (1.45 +/- 0.04_{stat} +/- 0.06_{syst})x10^-4 (combined pi^- and pi^0 decay channels assuming isospin symmetry), BF(B^+ --> omega l^+ nu) = (1.19 +/- 0.16_{stat} +/- 0.09_{syst})x10^-4 and BF(B^+ --> eta l^+ nu) = (0.38 +/- 0.05_{stat} +/- 0.05_{syst})x10^-4. We also measure BF(B^+ --> eta^' l^+ nu) = (0.24 +/- 0.08_{stat} +/- 0.03_{syst})x10^-4. We obtain values for the magnitude of the CKM matrix element V_{ub} by direct comparison with three different QCD calculations in restricted q^2 ranges of B --> pi l^+ nu decays. From a simultaneous fit to the experimental data over the full q^2 range and the FNAL/MILC lattice QCD predictions, we obtain |V_{ub}| = (3.25 +/- 0.31)x10^-3, where the error is the combined experimental and theoretical uncertainty.

Initial-State Radiation Measurement of the e+e- -> pi+pi-pi+pi- Cross Section

We study the process e+e- -> pi+pi-pi+pi-gamma, with a photon emitted from the initial-state electron or positron, using 454.3 fb^-1 of data collected with the BABAR detector at SLAC, corresponding to approximately 260,000 signal events. We use these data to extract the non-radiative sigma(e+e- ->pi+pi-pi+pi-) cross section in the energy range from 0.6 to 4.5 Gev. The total uncertainty of the cross section measurement in the peak region is less than 3%, higher in precision than the corresponding results obtained from energy scan data.

Evidence for the h_b(1P) meson in the decay Upsilon(3S) --> pi0 h_b(1P)

Using a sample of 122 million Upsilon(3S) events recorded with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at SLAC, we search for the hb(1P)h_b(1P) spin-singlet partner of the P-wave chi_{bJ}(1P) states in the sequential decay Upsilon(3S) --> pi0 h_b(1P), h_b(1P) --> gamma eta_b(1S). We observe an excess of events above background in the distribution of the recoil mass against the pi0 at mass 9902 +/- 4(stat.) +/- 2(syst.) MeV/c^2. The width of the observed signal is consistent with experimental resolution, and its significance is 3.1sigma, including systematic uncertainties. We obtain the value (4.3 +/- 1.1(stat.) +/- 0.9(syst.)) x 10^{-4} for the product branching fraction BF(Upsilon(3S)-->pi0 h_b) x BF(h_b-->gamma eta_b).

Observation of the baryonic B decay B0bar --> Lambda_c^+ anti-Lambda K-

We report the observation of the baryonic B decay B0bar --> Lambda_c^+ anti-Lambda K- with a significance larger than 7 standard deviations based on 471x10^6$ BBbar pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at SLAC. We measure the branching fraction for the decay B0bar --> Lambda_c^+ anti-Lambda K- to be (3.8 \pm 0.8_{stat} \pm 0.2_{sys} \pm 1.0_{Lambda_c^+})x10^{-5}. The uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in the Lambda_c^+ branching fraction.
