CSI-MAE: A Masked Autoencoder-based Channel Foundation Model

Self-Supervised Learning (SSL) has emerged as a key technique in machine learning, tackling challenges such as limited labeled data, high annotation costs, and variable wireless channel conditions. It is essential for developing Channel Foundation Models (CFMs), which extract latent features from channel state information (CSI) and adapt to different wireless settings. Yet, existing CFMs have notable drawbacks: heavy reliance on scenario-specific data hinders generalization, they focus on single/dual tasks, and lack zero-shot learning ability. In this paper, we propose CSI-MAE, a generalized CFM leveraging masked autoencoder for cross-scenario generalization. Trained on 3GPP channel model datasets, it integrates sensing and communication via CSI perception and generation, proven effective across diverse tasks. A lightweight decoder finetuning strategy cuts training costs while maintaining competitive performance. Under this approach, CSI-MAE matches or surpasses supervised models. With full-parameter finetuning, it achieves the state-of-the-art performance. Its exceptional zero-shot transferability also rivals supervised techniques in cross-scenario applications, driving wireless communication innovation.

First Submillimeter Lights from Dome A: Tracing the Carbon Cycle in the Feedback of Massive Stars

The cycling of carbon between its ionized, atomic, and molecular phases shapes the chemical compositions and physical conditions of the interstellar medium (ISM). However, ground-based studies of the full carbon cycle have been limited by atmospheric absorption. Dome~A, the most promising site for submillimeter astronomy, has long resisted successful submillimeter astronomical observations. Using the 60~cm Antarctic Terahertz Explorer, we present the first successful CO ($4-3$) and [CI] ($^3P_1 - ^3P_0$) mapping observations of two archetypal triggered massive star-formation regions at Dome~A. These data, together with archival [CII], provide the first complete characterization of all three carbon phases in these environments. We find elevated C$^{0}$/CO abundance ratios in high-extinction regions, plausibly driven by deep penetration of intense radiation fields from massive stars into a clumpy ISM. These findings mark a major milestone for submillimeter astronomy at Dome~A and offer valuable insights into the impact of massive star feedback on the surrounding ISM.

Recovering Sign Bits of DCT Coefficients in Digital Images as an Optimization Problem

Recovering unknown, missing, damaged, distorted, or lost information in DCT coefficients is a common task in multiple applications of digital image processing, including image compression, selective image encryption, and image communication. This paper investigates the recovery of sign bits in DCT coefficients of digital images, by proposing two different approximation methods to solve a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) problem, which is NP-hard in general. One method is a relaxation of the MILP problem to a linear programming (LP) problem, and the other splits the original MILP problem into some smaller MILP problems and an LP problem. We considered how the proposed methods can be applied to JPEG-encoded images and conducted extensive experiments to validate their performances. The experimental results showed that the proposed methods outperformed other existing methods by a substantial margin, both according to objective quality metrics and our subjective evaluation.

Production of double heavy quarkonium at super $Z$ factory

Within the color singlet model, we calculate the exclusive production of double charmonia, double bottomonia, and double $B_c$ mesons at future super $Z$ factory. The two heavy quarkonia or $B_c$'s are either two S-wave Fock states ($^1S_0, ~^3S_1$), or one S-wave and one P-wave states ($^1P_1,~^3P_J~(J=0,1,2)$). The top three $Z^0$ propagated channels in cross sections for double charmonia are $J/ψ+h_c,η_c+χ_{c2}$, and $η_c+χ_{c0}$. For double bottomonia, they are $η_b+Υ, Υ+χ_{b2}$, and $Υ+Υ$. For double $B_c$ mesons, they are $B_c^{*+}+B_c^{*-}$,$B_c^{*+}+χ_{bc2}^-$, and $η_{bc}^++B_c^{*-}$. The cross sections of double $B_c$ mesons are roughly one order of magnitude larger than those of the double bottomonia, and two orders of magnitude larger than those of the double charmonia. To make it helpful for experimental study, we present the total cross sections $σ$ as functions of CM energy $\sqrt{s}$, $σ$ as functions of the renormalization scale $μ$, the angle distributions $dσ/dcosθ$, and the $p_T$ distributions $dσ/dp_{t}$. The uncertainties come from the varying masses of constituent heavy quarks bring up to 20% corrections. We also find that the initial state radiation can bring about 30%$\sim$40% suppresions when 1\%$m_Z$ energy is losing, and cross sections can increase by about $2\sim3$ times or decrease by an order of magnitude when adopting different potential models which becomes the major source of uncertainty. The numerical results show that it might be not optimistic for the experimental observation, but it is still far from excluded at the FCC-ee and also the CEPC running in the $Z$ factory mode.

Approximate Nearest Neighbor Search under Neural Similarity Metric for Large-Scale Recommendation

Model-based methods for recommender systems have been studied extensively for years. Modern recommender systems usually resort to 1) representation learning models which define user-item preference as the distance between their embedding representations, and 2) embedding-based Approximate Nearest Neighbor (ANN) search to tackle the efficiency problem introduced by large-scale corpus. While providing efficient retrieval, the embedding-based retrieval pattern also limits the model capacity since the form of user-item preference measure is restricted to the distance between their embedding representations. However, for other more precise user-item preference measures, e.g., preference scores directly derived from a deep neural network, they are computationally intractable because of the lack of an efficient retrieval method, and an exhaustive search for all user-item pairs is impractical. In this paper, we propose a novel method to extend ANN search to arbitrary matching functions, e.g., a deep neural network. Our main idea is to perform a greedy walk with a matching function in a similarity graph constructed from all items. To solve the problem that the similarity measures of graph construction and user-item matching function are heterogeneous, we propose a pluggable adversarial training task to ensure the graph search with arbitrary matching function can achieve fairly high precision. Experimental results in both open source and industry datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. The proposed method has been fully deployed in the Taobao display advertising platform and brings a considerable advertising revenue increase. We also summarize our detailed experiences in deployment in this paper.

Long-range model of vibrational autoionization in core-nonpenetrating Rydberg states of NO

In high orbital angular momentum ($\ell \geq 3$) Rydberg states, the centrifugal barrier hinders close approach of the Rydberg electron to the ion-core. As a result, these core-nonpenetrating Rydberg states can be well described by a simplified model in which the Rydberg electron is only weakly perturbed by the long-range electric properties (i.e., multipole moments and polarizabilities) of the ion-core. We have used a long-range model to describe the vibrational autoionization dynamics of high-$\ell$ Rydberg states of nitric oxide (NO). In particular, our model explains the extensive angular momentum exchange between the ion-core and Rydberg electron that had been previously observed in vibrational autoionization of $f$ ($\ell=3$) Rydberg states. These results shed light on a long-standing mechanistic question around these previous observations, and support a direct, vibrational mechanism of autoionization over an indirect, predissociation-mediated mechanism. In addition, our model correctly predicts newly measured total decay rates of $g$ ($\ell=4$) Rydberg states because, for $\ell\geq4$, the non-radiative decay is dominated by autoionization rather than predissociation. We examine the predicted NO$^+$ ion rotational state distributions generated by vibrational autoionization of $g$ states and discuss applications of our model to achieve quantum state selection in the production of molecular ions.

Secure IoT Routing: Selective Forwarding Attacks and Trust-based Defenses in RPL Network

IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) is an essential routing protocol to enable communications for IoT networks with low power devices. RPL uses an objective function and routing constraints to find an optimized routing path for each node in the network. However, recent research has shown that topological attacks, such as selective forwarding attacks, pose great challenges to the secure routing of IoT networks. Many conventional secure routing solutions, on the other hand, are computationally heavy to be directly applied in resource-constrained IoT networks. There is an urgent need to develop lightweight secure routing solutions for IoT networks. In this paper, we first design and implement a series of advanced selective forwarding attacks from the attack perspective, which can flexibly select the type and percentage of forwarding packets in an energy efficient way, and even bad-mouth other innocent nodes in the network. Experiment results show that the proposed attacks can maximize the attack consequences (i.e. number of dropped packets) while maintaining undetected. Moreover, we propose a lightweight trust-based defense solution to detect and eliminate malicious selective forwarding nodes from the network. The results show that the proposed defense solution can achieve high detection accuracy with very limited extra energy usage (i.e. 3.4%).

Triangle Singularity in the Production of $T_{cc}^+$(3875) and a Soft Pion

The double-charm tetraquark meson $T_{cc}^+(3875)$ can be produced in high-energy proton-proton collisions by the creation of the charm mesons $D^{*+} D^0$ at short distances followed by their binding into $T_{cc}^+$. The $T_{cc}^+$ can also be produced by the creation of $D^{*+} D^{*+}$ at short distances followed by their rescattering into $T_{cc}^+ π^+$. A charm-meson triangle singularity produces a narrow peak in the $T_{cc}^+ π^+$ invariant mass distribution 6.1 MeV above the threshold with a width of about 1 MeV. Well beyond the peak, the differential cross section decreases with the invariant kinetic energy $E$ of $T_{cc}^+ π^+$ as $E^{-1/2}$. The fraction of $T_{cc}^+$ that are accompanied by $π^+$ with $E< m_π$ is estimated to be roughly 3%. The fraction of $T_{cc}^+$ events with $T_{cc}^+ π^+$ in the narrow peak from the triangle singularity could be comparable.

HDR Video Reconstruction with Tri-Exposure Quad-Bayer Sensors

We propose a novel high dynamic range (HDR) video reconstruction method with new tri-exposure quad-bayer sensors. Thanks to the larger number of exposure sets and their spatially uniform deployment over a frame, they are more robust to noise and spatial artifacts than previous spatially varying exposure (SVE) HDR video methods. Nonetheless, the motion blur from longer exposures, the noise from short exposures, and inherent spatial artifacts of the SVE methods remain huge obstacles. Additionally, temporal coherence must be taken into account for the stability of video reconstruction. To tackle these challenges, we introduce a novel network architecture that divides-and-conquers these problems. In order to better adapt the network to the large dynamic range, we also propose LDR-reconstruction loss that takes equal contributions from both the highlighted and the shaded pixels of HDR frames. Through a series of comparisons and ablation studies, we show that the tri-exposure quad-bayer with our solution is more optimal to capture than previous reconstruction methods, particularly for the scenes with larger dynamic range and objects with motion.

Production of excited heavy quarkonia in $e^+e^- \to γ^*/Z^0 \to |(Q\bar{Q})[n]\rangle +γ$ at super $Z$ factory

Within the nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics framework, we make a comprehensive study on the exclusive production of excited charmonium and bottomonium in $e^+e^-\to γ^*/Z^0 \to|(Q\bar{Q})[n]\rangle +γ$ ($Q=c$ or $b$ quarks) at future $Z$ factory, where the $[n]$ represents the color-singlet $n^1S_0,~n^3S_1,~n^1P_0$ and $n^3P_J$ ($n=1,2,3,4; J=0,1,2$) Fock states. The "improved trace technology" is adopted to derive the analytic expressions at the amplitude level, which is useful for calculating the complicated $nP$-wave channels. Total cross sections, differential distributions, and uncertainties are discussed in system. According to our study, production rates of heavy quarkonia of high excited Fock states are considerable at future $Z$ factory. The cross sections of charmonium for $2S$, $3S$, $4S$, $1P$, $2P$, $3P$ and $4P$-wave states are about $53.5\%$, $30.4\%$, $23.7\%$, $13.7\%$, $6.8\%$, $9.2\%$, and $9.2\%$ of that of the $1S$ state, respectively. And cross sections of bottomonium for $2S$, $3S$, $4S$, $1P$, $2P$, $3P$ and $4P$-wave states are about $39.3\%$, $12.3\%$, $14.3\%$, $7.1\%$, $3.1\%$, $2.7\%$, and $3.1\%$ of that of the $1S$ state, respectively. The main uncertainties come from the radial wave functions at the origin and their derivatives at the origin under different potential models. Then, such super $Z$ factory should be a good platform to study the properties of the high excited charmonium and bottomonium states.

Representations and cohomologies of relative Rota-Baxter Lie algebras and applications

In this paper, first we give the notion of a representation of a relative Rota-Baxter Lie algebra and introduce the cohomologies of a relative Rota-Baxter Lie algebra with coefficients in a representation. Then we classify abelian extensions of relative Rota-Baxter Lie algebras using the second cohomology group, and classify skeletal relative Rota-Baxter Lie 2-algebras using the third cohomology group as applications. At last, using the established general framework of representations and cohomologies of relative Rota-Baxter Lie algebras, we give the notion of representations of Rota-Baxter Lie algebras, which is consistent with representations of Rota-Baxter associative algebras in the literature, and introduce the cohomologies of Rota-Baxter Lie algebras with coefficients in a representation. Applications are also given to classify abelian extensions of Rota-Baxter Lie algebras and skeletal Rota-Baxter Lie 2-algebras.

Atomic origin for hydrogenation promoted bulk oxygen vacancies removal in vanadium dioxide

Oxygen vacancies (VO), a common type of point defects in metal oxides materials, play important roles on the physical and chemical properties. To obtain stoichiometric oxide crystal, the pre-existing VO is always removed via careful post-annealing treatment at high temperature in air or oxygen atmosphere. However, the annealing conditions is difficult to control and the removal of VO in bulk phase is restrained due to high energy barrier of VO migration. Here, we selected VO2 crystal film as the model system and developed an alternative annealing treatment aided by controllable hydrogen doping, which can realizes effective removal of VO defects in VO2-δ crystal at lower temperature. This finding is attributed to the hydrogenation accelerated oxygen vacancies recovery in VO2-δ crystal. Theoretical calculations revealed that the H-doping induced electrons are prone to accumulate around the oxygen defects in VO2-δ film, which facilitates the diffusion of VO and thus makes it easier to be removed. The methodology is expected to be applied to other metal oxides for oxygen-related point defects control.

Charm-meson Triangle Singularity in ${e^+e^-}$ Annihilation into ${ D^{*0} \bar{D}^0 + γ}$

We calculate the cross section for $e^+ e^-$ annihilation into $D^{*0} \bar D^0 +γ$ at center-of-mass energies near the $D^{*0} \bar D^{*0}$ threshold under the assumption that $X(3872)$ is a weakly bound charm meson molecule. The Dalitz plot has a $\bar D^{*0}$ resonance band in the squared invariant mass $t$ of $\bar D^0 γ$. In the limit as the decay width of the $D^{*0}$ goes to 0, the Dalitz plot also has a narrow band in the squared invariant mass $u$ of $D^{*0} \bar D^0$ from a charm-meson triangle singularity. At the physical value of the $D^{*0}$ width, the narrow band reduces to a shoulder. Thus the triangle singularity cannot be observed directly as a peak in a differential cross section as a function of $u$. It may however be observed indirectly as a local minimum in the $t$ distribution for events with $u$ below the triangle singularity. The minimum is produced by the Schmid cancellation between triangle loop diagrams and a tree diagram. The observation of this minimum would support the identification of $X(3872)$ as a weakly bound charm meson molecule.

Crossed-beam pump-probe microscopy

We present a new imaging method for pump-probe microscopy that explores non-collinear excitation. This method (crossed-beam pump-probe microscopy, or CBPM) can significantly improve the axial resolution when imaging through low-NA lenses, providing an alternative way for depth resolved, large field-of-view imaging. We performed a proof-of-concept demonstration, characterized CBPM's resolution using different imaging lenses, and measured an enhanced axial resolution for certain types of low-NA lenses.

Defending Against Adversarial Attacks in Transmission- and Distribution-level PMU Data

Phasor measurement units (PMUs) provide high-fidelity data that improve situation awareness of electric power grid operations. PMU datastreams inform wide-area state estimation, monitor area control error, and facilitate event detection in real time. As PMU data become more available and increasingly reliable, these devices are found in new roles within control systems, such as remedial action schemes and early warning detection systems. As with other cyber physical systems, maintaining data integrity and security pose a significant challenge for power system operators. In this paper, we present a comprehensive analysis of multiple machine learning techniques to detect malicious data injection within PMU data streams. The two datasets used in this study come from two PMU networks: an inter-university, research-grade distribution network spanning three institutions in the U.S. Pacific Northwest, and a utility transmission network from the Bonneville Power Administration. We implement the detection algorithms with TensorFlow, an open-source software library for machine learning, and the results demonstrate potential for distributing the training workload and achieving higher performance, while maintaining effectiveness in the detection of spoofed data.

Digital pathology-based study of cell- and tissue-level morphologic features in serous borderline ovarian tumor and high-grade serous ovarian cancer

Serous borderline ovarian tumor (SBOT) and high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC) are two distinct subtypes of epithelial ovarian tumors, with markedly different biologic background, behavior, prognosis, and treatment. However, the histologic diagnosis of serous ovarian tumors can be subjectively variable and labor-intensive as multiple tumor slides/blocks need to be thoroughly examined to search for these features. In this study, we aimed to evaluate technical feasibility of using digital pathological approaches to facilitate objective and scalable diagnosis screening for SBOT and HGSOC. Based on Groovy scripts and QuPath, a novel informatics system was developed to facilitate interactive annotation and imaging data exchange for machine learning purposes. Through this developed system, cellular boundaries were detected and expanded set of cellular features were extracted to represent cell- and tissue-level characteristics. According to our evaluation, cell-level classification was accurately achieved for both tumor and stroma cells with greater than 90% accuracy. Upon further re-examinations, 44.2% of the misclassified cells were due to over-/under-segmentations or low-quality of imaging areas. For a total number of 6,485 imaging patches with sufficient tumor and stroma cells (ten of each at least), we achieved 91-95% accuracy to differentiate HGSOC v. SBOT. When all the patches were considered for a WSI to make consensus prediction, 97% accuracy was achieved for accurately classifying all patients, indicating that cellular features digitally extracted from pathological images can be used for cell classification and SBOT v. HGSOC differentiation. Introducing digital pathology into ovarian cancer research could be beneficial to discover potential clinical implications.

Efficient and Accurate Simulations of Vibrational and Electronic Spectra with Symmetry-Preserving Neural Network Models for Tensorial Properties

Machine learning has revolutionized the high-dimensional representations for molecular properties such as potential energy. However, there are scarce machine learning models targeting tensorial properties, which are rotationally covariant. Here, we propose tensorial neural network (NN) models to learn both tensorial response and transition properties, in which atomic coordinate vectors are multiplied with scalar NN outputs or their derivatives to preserve the rotationally covariant symmetry. This strategy keeps structural descriptors symmetry invariant so that the resulting tensorial NN models are as efficient as their scalar counterparts. We validate the performance and universality of this approach by learning response properties of water oligomers and liquid water, and transition dipole moment of a model structural unit of proteins. Machine learned tensorial models have enabled efficient simulations of vibrational spectra of liquid water and ultraviolet spectra of realistic proteins, promising feasible and accurate spectroscopic simulations for biomolecules and materials.

Galilean-Invariant XEFT at Next-to-Leading Order

XEFT is a low-energy effective field theory for charm mesons and pions that provides a systematically improvable description of the $X(3872)$ resonance. To simplify calculations beyond leading order, we introduce a new formulation of XEFT with a dynamical field for a pair of charm mesons in the resonant channel. We simplify the renormalization of XEFT by introducing a new renormalization scheme that involves the subtraction of amplitudes at the complex $D^{*0} \bar D^0$ threshold. The new formulation and the new renormalization scheme are illustrated by calculating the complex pole energy of $X$ and the $D^{*0} \bar D^0$ scattering amplitude to next-to-leading order using Galilean-invariant XEFT.

We also describe a Hom-Lie group action on a smooth manifold. Subsequently, we give the notion of an adjoint representation of a Hom-Lie group on its Hom-Lie algebra. Production and constraints for a massive dark photon at electron-positron colliders

Dark sector may couple to the Standard Model via one or more mediator particles. We discuss two types of mediators: the dark photon $A^{\prime}$ and the dark scalar mediator $ϕ$. The total cross-sections and various differential distributions of the processes $e^{+} e^{-} \rightarrow q \bar{q} A^{\prime}$ and $e^{+} e^{-} \rightarrow q \bar{q} ϕ$ ($q=u,~d,~c,~s$ and $b$ quarks) are discussed. We focus on the study of the invisible $A^{\prime}$ due to the cleaner background at future $e^{+} e^{-}$ colliders. It is found that the kinematic distributions of the two-jet system could be used to identify (or exclude) the dark photon and the dark scalar mediator, as well as to distinguish between them. We further study the possibility of a search for dark photons at a future CEPC experiment with $\sqrt{s}=$ 91.2 GeV and 240 GeV. With CEPC running at $\sqrt{s}=$ 91.2 GeV, it would be possible to perform a decisive measurement of the dark photon (20 GeV $< m_{A^{\prime}} <$ 60 GeV) in less than one operating year. The lower limits of the integrated luminosity for the significance $S/\sqrt{B}=$ 2$σ$, 3$σ$ and 5$σ$ are presented.

Three Jahn-Teller states of matter in the spin-crossover system Mn(taa)

Three high-spin phases recently discovered in the spin-crossover system Mn(taa) are identified through analysis by a combination of first-principles calculations and Monte Carlo simulation as a low-temperature Jahn-Teller ordered (solid) phase, an intermediate-temperature dynamically correlated (liquid) phase, and an uncorrelated (gas) phase. In particular, the Jahn-Teller liquid phase arises from competition between mixing with low-spin impurities, which drive the disorder, and inter-molecular strain interactions. The latter are a key factor in both the spin-crossover phase transition and the magnetoelectric coupling. Jahn-Teller liquids may exist in other spin-crossover materials and materials that have multiple equivalent Jahn-Teller axes.

Wireless power transfer via topological modes in dimer chains

The topological characteristics, including invariant topological orders, band inversion, and the topological edge mode (TEM) in the photonic insulators, have been widely studied. Whether people can take advantage of intriguing topological modes in simple one-dimensional systems to implement some practical applications is an issue which people are increasingly concerned about. In this work, based on a photonic dimer chain composed of ultra-subwavelength resonators, we verify experimentally that the TEM in the effective second-order parity-time (PT) system is immune to the inner disorder perturbation, and can be used to realize the long-range wireless power transfer (WPT) with high transmission efficiency. To intuitively show the TEM can be used for WPT, a power signal source is used to excite the TEM. It can be clearly seen that two LED lamps with 0.5-W at both ends of the structure are lighted up with the aid of TEMs. In addition, in order to solve the special technical problems of standby power loss and frequency tracking, we further propose that a WPT system with effective third-order PT symmetry can be constructed by using one topological interface mode and two TEMs. Inspired by the long-range WPT with TEMs in this work, it is expected to use more complex topological structures to achieve energy transmission with more functions, such as the WPT devices whose direction can be selected flexibly in the quasiperiodic or trimer topological chains.

$B_c$ Production in Higgs Boson Decays

$B_c$ production rate in Higgs boson decays is evaluated in NRQCD framework. Given Higgs total decay width is about $4.20~MeV$ and the vector $B^*_c$ meson decays completely to the ground state, we find that the branching fraction of $B_c$ meson production in Higgs decays is $8.50\times10^{-4}$, where both leading QED and QCD contributions are included. This process is hence detectable in the high-luminosity/energy LHC. In confronting to the quarkonia production, we find that the fraction rate of $B_c$ production is more than an order of magnitude bigger than those of charmonium and bottomoium production in Higgs decays. In the calculation, various differential distributions and uncertainties of the concerned processes are analysed.

A first-principles study on the phonon transport in layered BiCuOSe

First-principles calculations are employed to investigate the phonon transport of BiCuOSe. Our calculations reproduce the lattice thermal conductivity of BiCuOSe. The calculated gruneisen parameter is 2.4~2.6 at room temperature, a fairly large value indicating a strong anharmonicity in BiCuOSe, which leads to its ultralow lattice thermal conductivity. The contribution to total thermal conductivity from high-frequency optical phonons, which are mostly contributed by the vibrations of O atoms, is larger than 1/3, remarkably different from the usual picture with very little contribution from high-frequency optical phonons. Our calculations show that both the high group velocities and low scattering processes involved make the high-frequency optical modes contribute considerably to the total lattice thermal conductivity. In addition, we show that the sound velocity and bulk modulus along $a$ and $c$ axes exhibit strong anisotropy, which results in the anisotropic thermal conductivity in BiCuOSe.

Gap state charge induced spin-dependent negative differential resistance in tunnel junctions

We propose and demonstrate through first-principles calculation a new spin-dependent negative differential resistance (NDR) mechanism in magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJ) with cubic cation disordered crystals (CCDC) AlO$_x$ or Mg$_{1-x}$Al$_x$O as barrier materials. The CCDC is a class of insulators whose band gap can be changed by cation doping. The gap becomes arched in an ultrathin layer due to the space charge formed from metal-induced gap states. With an appropriate combination of an arched gap and a bias voltage, NDR can be produced in either spin channel. This mechanism is applicable to 2D and 3D ultrathin junctions with a sufficiently small band gap that forms a large space charge. It provides a new way of controlling the spin-dependent transport in spintronic devices by an electric field. A generalized Simmons formula for tunneling current through junction with an arched gap is derived to show the general conditions under which ultrathin junctions may exhibit NDR.

Observation of b$_2$ symmetry vibrational levels of the SO$_2$ $\tilde{\mbox{C}}$ $^1$B$_2$ state: Vibrational level staggering, Coriolis interactions, and rotation-vibration constants

The $\mathrm{\tilde{C}}$ $^1$B$_2$ state of SO$_2$ has a double-minimum potential in the antisymmetric stretch coordinate, such that the minimum energy geometry has nonequivalent SO bond lengths. However, low-lying levels with odd quanta of antisymmetric stretch (b$_2$ vibrational symmetry) have not previously been observed because transitions into these levels from the zero-point level of the $\mathrm{\tilde{X}}$ state are vibronically forbidden. We use IR-UV double resonance to observe the b$_2$ vibrational levels of the $\mathrm{\tilde{C}}$ state below 1600 cm$^{-1}$ of vibrational excitation. This enables a direct characterization of the vibrational level staggering that results from the double-minimum potential. In addition, it allows us to deperturb the strong $c$-axis Coriolis interactions between levels of a$_1$ and b$_2$ vibrational symmetry, and to determine accurately the vibrational dependence of the rotational constants in the distorted $\mathrm{\tilde{C}}$ electronic state.

Relativistic calculations of quasi-one-electron atoms and ions using Laguerre and Slater spinors

A relativistic description of the structure of heavy alkali atoms and alkali-like ions using S-spinors and L-spinors has been developed. The core wavefunction is defined by a Dirac-Fock calculation using an S-spinors basis. The S-spinor basis is then supplemented by a large set of L-spinors for the calculation of the valence wavefunction in a frozen-core model. The numerical stability of the L-spinor approach is demonstrated by computing the energies and decay rates of several low-lying hydrogen eigenstates, along with the polarizabilities of a $Z=60$ hydrogenic ion. The approach is then applied to calculate the dynamic polarizabilities of the $5s$, $4d$ and $5p$ states of Sr$^+$. The magic wavelengths at which the Stark shifts between different pairs of transitions are zero are computed. Determination of the magic wavelengths for the $5s \to 4d_{\frac32}$ and $5s \to 4d_{\frac52}$ transitions near $417$~nm (near the wavelength for the $5s \to 5p_j$ transitions) would allow a determination of the oscillator strength ratio for the $5s \to 5p_{\frac12}$ and $5s \to 5p_{\frac32}$ transitions.

The origin of unequal bond lengths in the $\mathrm{\tilde{C}}$ $^1$B$_2$ state of SO$_2$: Signatures of high-lying potential energy surface crossings in the low-lying vibrational structure

The $\mathrm{\tilde{C}}$ $^1$B$_2$ state of SO$_2$ has a double-minimum potential in the antisymmetric stretch coordinate, such that the minimum energy geometry has nonequivalent SO bond lengths. The asymmetry in the potential energy surface is expressed as a staggering in the energy levels of the $ν_3'$ progression. We have recently made the first observation of low-lying levels with odd quanta of $v_3'$, which allows us--in the current work--to characterize the origins of the level staggering. Our work demonstrates the usefulness of low-lying vibrational level structure, where the character of the wavefunctions can be relatively easily understood, to extract information about dynamically important potential energy surface crossings that occur at much higher energy. The measured staggering pattern is consistent with a vibronic coupling model for the double-minimum, which involves direct coupling to the bound 2$^1$A$_1$ state and indirect coupling with the repulsive 3$^1$A$_1$ state. The degree of staggering in the $ν_3'$ levels increases with quanta of bending excitation, which is consistent with the approach along the $\mathrm{\tilde{C}}$ state potential energy surface to a conical intersection with the 2$^1$A$_1$ surface at a bond angle of $\sim$145$^{\circ}$.

The rotation-vibration structure of the SO$_2$ $\mathrm{\tilde{C}}^1\mathrm{B}_2$ state explained by a new internal coordinate force field

A new quartic force field for the SO$_2$ $\tilde{\text{C}}$$^1$B$_2$ state has been derived, based on high resolution data from S$^{16}$O$_2$ and S$^{18}$O$_2$. Included are eight $b_2$ symmetry vibrational levels of S$^{16}$O$_2$ reported in the first paper of this series [G. B. Park, $\textit{et al.}$, J. Chem. Phys. $\textbf{144}$, 144311 (2016)]. Many of the experimental observables not included in the fit, such as the Franck-Condon intensities and the Coriolis-perturbed effective $C$ rotational constants of highly anharmonic $\tilde{\text{C}}$ state vibrational levels, are well reproduced using our force field. Because the two stretching modes of the $\tilde{\text{C}}$ state are strongly coupled via Fermi-133 interaction, the vibrational structure of the $\tilde{\text{C}}$ state is analyzed in a Fermi-system basis set, constructed explicitly in this work via $\textit{partial}$ $\textit{diagonalization}$ of the vibrational Hamiltonian. The physical significance of the Fermi-system basis is discussed in terms of semiclassical dynamics, based on study of Fermi-resonance systems by Kellman and coworkers [M. E. Kellman and L. Xiao, J. Chem. Phys. $\textbf{93}$, 5821 (1990)]. By diagonalizing the vibrational Hamiltonian in the Fermi-system basis, the vibrational characters of all vibrational levels can be determined unambiguously. It is shown that the bending mode cannot be treated separately from the coupled stretching modes, particularly at vibrational energies of more than 2000 cm$^{-1}$. Based on our force field, the structure of the Coriolis interactions in the $\tilde{\text{C}}$ state of SO$_2$ is also discussed. We identify the origin of the alternating patterns in the effective $C$ rotational constants of levels in the vibrational progressions of the symmetry-breaking mode, $ν_β$ (which correlates with the antisymmetric stretching mode in our assignment scheme).

NLO QCD Corrections for $χ_{cJ}$ Inclusive Production at $B$ Factories

The next-to-leading order (NLO) quantum chromodynamics (QCD) corrections for $χ_{cJ}(^3P_J^{[1]},^3S_1^{[8]})$, the P-wave charmoniums inclusive production at $B$ factories are calculated utilizing the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization formalism. Large NLO corrections are found, especially for $^3P_0^{[1]}$ and $^3S_1^{[8]}$ configurations. Numerical evaluation indicates that the total cross sections of $χ_{cJ}$ inclusive production processes are at the order of $10$fb, which are accessible in BELLE II(super-B) experiment.

NLO QCD Corrections to $η_c+h_c(1P)/ψ_{1,2}(1D)$ Production at B-factories

We calculate the next-to-leading order (NLO) quantum chromodynamics (QCD) corrections to double charmonium production processes $e^+e^-\toγ^*\toη_c+h_c(1P)/ψ_{1,2}(1D)$ within the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization framework. We find that the corrections to $η_c+h_c(1P)$ production are positive, while those to $η_c+ψ_{1,2}(1D)$ are negative. Unlike the $J/ψ+ η_c$ case, all the corrections here are not large. Uncertainties in the renormalization scale, quark mass and running energy of center-of-mass are discussed, and the scale dependence of these processes is found to be greatly reduced with the NLO QCD corrections.

Simulation of Zitterbewegung by modelling the Dirac equation in Metamaterials

We develop a dynamic description of an effective Dirac theory in metamaterials, in which the wavefunction is modeled by the corresponding electric and magnetic field in the metamaterial. This electro-magnetic field can be probed in the experimental setup, which means that the wavefunction of the effective theory is directly accessible by measurement. Our model is based on a plane wave expansion, which ravels the identification of Dirac spinors with single-frequency excitations of the electro-magnetic field in the metamaterial. The characteristic Zitterbewegung is shown to emerge in simulations of the effective theory and we verify this signature with an analytic solution.

The QCD NLO Corrections to Inclusive $B^*_c$ Production in $Z^{0}$ Decays

We calculate the next-to-leading order(NLO) quantum chromodynamics(QCD) corrections to the inclusive process of $Z_0 \rightarrow B^*_c+\bar{c}+b$ under the non-relativistic QCD(NRQCD) factorization scheme. Technical details about contributions from vector and axial-vector currents in dimensional regularization scheme are discussed. Numerical calculation shows that the NLO correction enhances the leading-order decay width by about 50%, and the dependence on renormalization scale $μ$ is reduced. The uncertainties induced by quark masses and the renormalization scale $μ$ are also analyzed.

Effective oscillator strength distributions of spherically symmetric atoms for calculating polarizabilities and long-range atom-atom interactions

Effective oscillator strength distributions are systematically generated and tabulated for the alkali atoms, the alkaline-earth atoms, the alkaline-earth ions, the rare gases and some miscellaneous atoms. These effective distributions are used to compute the dipole, quadrupole and octupole static polarizabilities, and are then applied to the calculation of the dynamic polarizabilities at imaginary frequencies. These polarizabilities can be used to determine the long-range $C_6$, $C_8$ and $C_{10}$ atom-atom interactions for the dimers formed from any of these atoms and ions, and we present tables covering all of these combinations.

Further Study on the Doubly Heavy Baryon Production around the $Z^0$ Peak at A High Luminosity $e^+ e^-$ Collider

The doubly heavy baryon $Ξ_{QQ^{\prime}}$ ($Q^{(\prime)}$ = $b$ or $c$) is different from the ordinary baryons. The production of the doubly heavy baryon can provide valuable insight on how the colored $(QQ^{\prime})$-diquark can be transformed into the color-singlet baryon. As a sequential work of Ref.[2], we make a further study on the doubly heavy baryon production through the $e^+ e^-$ annihilation channel, $e^{+} + e^{-}\rightarrowγ/Z^0 \rightarrow Ξ_{QQ^{\prime}} +\bar{Q} +\bar{Q^{\prime}}$, within the nonrelativistic QCD framework. In addition to the total cross sections, we present the baryon transverse momentum and the rapidity distributions for all these channels. Typical baryon transverse momentum and rapidity cuts are adopted to show the properties of these distributions clearly. At a $e^+ e^-$ collider that runs around the $Z^0$-boson mass with a high luminosity up to ${\cal L} = 10^{34-36}{\rm cm}^{-2} {\rm s}^{-1}$, in comparison to the Belle and BABAR experiments, it is found that sizable $Ξ_{cc}$, $Ξ_{bc}$ and $Ξ_{bb}$ events can be produced even after performing baryon's transverse momentum and rapidity cuts due to $Z^0$-boson resonance effect.

Heavy Quarkonium Production through the Semi-Exclusive $e^+ e^-$ Annihilation Channels around the $Z^0$ Peak

Within the framework of the non-relativistic QCD, we present a detailed discussion on the heavy quarkonium production at the leading order in $α_s$ at a $e^+ e^-$ collider with the collision energy around the $Z^0$ peak. Quarkonia are produced through the semi-exclusive channels $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow |H_{Q\bar{Q}}\rangle +X$ with $X=Q\bar{Q}$ or $gg$, where $Q$ indicates a heavy quark (respectively $b$ or $c$). It is noted that in addition to the color-singlet 1S-level quarkonium states, the 2S and 1P color-singlet states and the color-octet $|(Q\bar{Q})[1^3S_1^{({\bf 8})}]g\rangle$ state also provide sizable contributions. The heavy quarkonium transverse momentum and rapidity distributions for the $e^+ e^-$ collision energy $E_{cm}=m_Z$ are presented. For both charmonium and bottomonium production via the $Z^0$ propagator, there is approximate "spin degeneracy" between the spin-triplet and spin-singlet quarkonium states. Uncertainties for the total cross sections are estimated by taking $m_c=1.50\pm0.15$ GeV and $m_b=4.90\pm0.15$ GeV. Around $E_{cm}=m_{Z}$, due to the $Z^0$-boson resonance effect, total cross sections for the channels via the $Z^0$-propagator become much larger than the channels via the virtual photon propagator. We conclude that, in addition to the $B$ factories as BaBar and Belle and the hadronic colliders as Tevatron and LHC, such a super $Z$-factory will present an excellent platform for studying the heavy quarkonium properties.

Hyperfine effects on potassium tune-out wavelengths and polarizabilities

The influence of hyperfine interactions on the tune-out wavelengths of the $^{39,40,41}$K isotopes of the potassium atom was investigated. The hyperfine interaction of the $4s_{1/2}$ state result in a shift and splitting of the primary tune-out wavelength near 769 nm. The $4s_{1/2}$ ground state hyperfine splittings of the primary tune-out were almost equal to the hyperfine splittings of the ground states. The splittings in the wavelengths were 0.0008, 0.0027 and 0.0005 nm for $^{39}$K, $^{40}$K and $^{41}$K respectively. The hyperfine splitting of the $np_{J}$ levels leads to the creation of additional tune-out wavelengths. The additional tune-out wavelengths could be difficult to detect due to very small differences from the transition wavelengths to the $4p_{J,F}$ states. The hyperfine Stark shift for the ground states of all three isotopes were also computed and the value for $^{30}$K was found to be compatible with the previous experiments and the most recent calculation using relativistic many body perturbation theory.

Revisiting the $B^{(*)}_s$-Meson Production at the Hadronic Colliders

The production of heavy-flavored hadron at the hadronic colliders provides a challenging opportunity to test the validity of pQCD predictions. There are two mechanisms for the $B^{(*)}_s$ hadroproduction, i.e. the gluon-gluon fusion mechanism via the subprocess $g+g\rightarrow B^{(*)}_s+b+\bar{s}$ and the extrinsic heavy quark mechanism via the subprocesses $g+\bar{b}\to B^{(*)}_s +\bar{s}$ and $g+s\to B^{(*)}_s +b$, both of which shall have sizable contributions in proper kinematic region. Different from the fixed-flavor-number scheme (FFNS) previously adopted in the literature, we study the $B^{(*)}_s$ hadroproduction under the general-mass variable-flavor-number scheme (GM-VFNS), in which we can consistently deal with the double counting problem from the above two mechanisms. Properties for the $B^{(*)}_s$ hadroproduction are discussed. To be useful reference, a comparative study of FFNS and GM-VFNS is presented. Both of which can provide reasonable estimations for the $B^{(*)}_s$ hadroproduction. At the Tevatron, the difference between these two schemes is small, however such difference is obvious at the LHC. The forthcoming more precise data on LHC shall provide a good chance to check which scheme is more appropriate to deal with the $B^{(*)}_s$-meson production and to further study the heavy quark components in hadrons.

Tune-out wavelengths for the alkaline earth atoms

The lowest 3 tune-out wavelengths of the four alkaline-earth atoms, Be, Mg, Ca and Sr are determined from tabulations of matrix elements produced from large first principles calculations. The tune-out wavelengths are located near the wavelengths for $^3P^o_1$ and $^1P^o_1$ excitations. The measurement of the tune-out wavelengths could be used to establish a quantitative relationship between the oscillator strength of the transition leading to existence of the tune-out wavelength and the dynamic polarizability of the atom at the tune-out frequency. The longest tune-out wavelengths for Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and Yb are 454.9813 nm, 457.2372 nm, 657.446 nm, 689.200 nm, 788.875 nm and 553.00 nm respectively.

Computational investigation of static multipole polarizabilities and sum rules for ground-state hydrogen-like ions

High precision multipole polarizabilities, $α_{\ell}$ for $\ell \le 4$ of the $1s$ ground state of the hydrogen isoelectronic series are obtained from the Dirac equation using the B-spline method with Notre Dame boundary conditions. Compact analytic expressions for the polarizabilities as a function of $Z$ with a relative accuracy of 10$^{-6}$ up to $Z = 100$ are determined by fitting to the calculated polarizabilities. The oscillator strengths satisfy the sum rules $\sum_i f^{(\ell)}_{0i} = 0$ for all multipoles from $\ell = 1$ to $\ell = 4$. The dispersion coefficients for the long-range H-H and H-He$^+$ interactions are given.

Doubly Heavy Baryon Production at A High Luminosity $e^+ e^-$ Collider

Within the framework of nonrelativistic QCD, we make a detailed discussion on the doubly heavy baryon production through the $e^+ e^-$ annihilation channel, $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowγ/Z^0 \rightarrow Ξ_{QQ^{\prime}} +\bar{Q} +\bar{Q^{\prime}}$, at a high luminosity $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. Here $Q^{(\prime)}$ stands for the heavy $b$ or $c$ quark. In addition to the channel through the usually considered diquark state $(QQ^{\prime})[^3S_1]_{\bf\bar{3}}$, contributions from the channels through other same important diquark states such as $(QQ^{\prime})[^1S_0]_{\bf 6}$ have also been discussed. Uncertainties for the total cross sections are predicted by taking $m_c=1.80\pm0.30$ GeV and $m_b=5.10\pm0.40$ GeV. At a super $Z$-factory running around the $Z^0$ mass and with a high luminosity up to ${\cal L} \propto 10^{34}\sim 10^{36}{\rm cm}^{-2} {\rm s}^{-1}$, we estimate that about $1.1\times10^{5 \sim 7}$ $Ξ_{cc}$ events, $2.6\times10^{5 \sim 7}$ $Ξ_{bc}$ events and $1.2\times 10^{4 \sim 6}$ $Ξ_{bb}$ events can be generated in one operation year. Such a $Z$-factory, thus, will provide a good platform for studying the doubly heavy baryons in comparable to the CERN large hadronic collider.

Excited Heavy Quarkonium Production at the LHC through $W$-Boson Decays

Sizable amount of heavy-quarkonium events can be produced through $W$-boson decays at the LHC. Such channels will provide a suitable platform to study the heavy-quarkonium properties. The "improved trace technology", which disposes the amplitude ${\cal M}$ at the amplitude-level, is helpful for deriving compact analytical results for complex processes. As an important new application, in addition to the production of the lower-level Fock states $|(Q\bar{Q'})[1S]>$ and $|(Q\bar{Q'})[1P]>$, we make a further study on the production of higher-excited $|(Q\bar{Q'})>$-quarkonium Fock states $|(Q\bar{Q'})[2S]>$, $|(Q\bar{Q'})[3S]>$ and $|(Q\bar{Q'})[2P]>$. Here $|(Q\bar{Q'})>$ stands for the $|(c\bar{c})>$-charmonium, $|(c\bar{b})>$-quarkonium and $|(b\bar{b})>$-bottomonium respectively. We show that sizable amount of events for those higher-excited states can also be produced at the LHC. Therefore, we need to take them into consideration for a sound estimation.

Heavy Quarkonium Production at LHC through $W$ Boson Decays

The production of the heavy $(c\bar{c})$-quarkonium, $(c\bar{b})$-quarkonium and $(b\bar{b})$-quarkonium states ($(Q\bar{Q'})$-quarkonium for short), via the $W^+$ semi-inclusive decays, has been systematically studied within the framework of the non-relativistic QCD. In addition to the two color-singlet $S$-wave states, we also discuss the production of the four color-singlet $P$-wave states $|(Q\bar{Q'})(^1P_1)_{\bf 1}>$ and $(Q\bar{Q'})(^3P_J)_{\bf 1}>$ (with $J=(1,2,3)$) together with the two color-octet components $|(Q\bar{Q'})(^1S_0)_{\bf 8}>$ and $|(Q\bar{Q'})(^3S_1)_{\bf 8}>$. Improved trace technology is adopted to derive the simplified analytic expressions at the amplitude level, which shall be useful for dealing with the following cascade decay channels. At the LHC with the luminosity ${\cal L}\propto 10^{34}cm^{-2}s^{-1}$ and the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{S}=14$ TeV, sizable heavy-quarkonium events can be produced through the $W^+$ boson decays, i.e. $2.57\times10^6$ $η_c$, $2.65\times10^6$ $J/Ψ$ and $2.40\times10^6$ $P$-wave charmonium events per year can be obtained; and $1.01\times10^5$ $B_c$, $9.11\times10^4$ $B^*_c$ and $3.16\times10^4$ $P$-wave $(c\bar{b})$-quarkonium events per year can be obtained. Main theoretical uncertainties have also been discussed. By adding the uncertainties caused by the quark masses in quadrature, we obtain $Γ_{W^+\to (c\bar{c})+c\bar{s}} =524.8^{+396.3}_{-258.4}$ KeV, $Γ_{W^+\to (c\bar{b})+b\bar{s}} =13.5^{+4.73}_{-3.29}$ KeV, $Γ_{W^+\to (c\bar{b})+c\bar{c}}= 1.74^{+1.98}_{-0.73}$ KeV and $Γ_{W^+\to (b\bar{b})+c\bar{b}}= 38.6^{+13.4}_{-9.69}$ eV.

First-Principles Simulations of Inelastic Electron Tunneling Spectroscopyof Molecular Junctions

A generalized Green's function theory is developed to simulate the inelastic electron tunneling spectroscopy (IETS) of molecular junctions. It has been applied to a realistic molecular junction with an octanedithiolate embedded between two gold contacts in combination with the hybrid density functional theory calculations. The calculated spectra are in excellent agreement with recent experimental results. Strong temperature dependence of the experimental IETS spectra is also reproduced. It is shown that the IETS is extremely sensitive to the intra-molecular conformation and to the molecule-metal contact geometry.
