Hadronic production of $Ξ_{bc}$ with the intrinsic heavy-quark content at a fixed-target experiment at the LHC

In this paper, we make a detailed study on the hadronic production of the $Ξ_{bc}$ baryon at a fixed target experiment at the LHC (After@LHC). In estimating the production cross sections, the $(g+g)$, $(g+c)$ and $(g+b)$ production mechanisms are considered. For the initial heavy quarks, in addition to the extrinsic component, we also consider the intrinsic component. It is found that the $(g+c)$ and $(g+b)$ production mechanisms give sizable contributions to the $Ξ_{bc}$ production, and the $(g+b)$ mechanism dominates the production. The results show that there are about $3.40\times10^5$ $Ξ_{bc}$ events can be produced per year at After@LHC if the integrated luminosity of After@LHC can be up to $2\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ per year. Moreover, the intrinsic heavy quarks can have significant impact on the production, which inversely makes the intrinsic component be possibly tested at the After@LHC.

Properties of the $η_q$ leading-twist distribution amplitude and its effects to the $B/D^+ \toη^{(\prime)}\ell^+ ν_\ell$ decays

The $η^{(\prime)}$-mesons in the quark-flavor basis are mixtures of two mesonic states $|η_{q}\rangle=|\bar u u+\bar d d\rangle/\sqrt 2$ and $|η_{s}\rangle=|\bar s s\rangle$. In the previous work, we have made a detailed study on the $η_{s}$ leading-twist distribution amplitude. As a sequential work, in the present paper, we fix the $η_q$ leading-twist distribution amplitude by using the light-cone harmonic oscillator model for its wave function and by using the QCD sum rules within the QCD background field to calculate its moments. The input parameters of $η_q$ leading-twist distribution amplitude $ϕ_{2;η_q}$ at an initial scale $μ_0\sim 1$ GeV are then fixed by using those moments. The sum rules for the $0_{\rm th}$-order moment can also be used to fix the magnitude of $η_q$ decay constant, which gives $f_{η_q}=0.141\pm0.005$ GeV. As an application of the present derived $ϕ_{2;η_q}$, we calculate the transition form factors $B(D)^+ \toη^{(\prime)}$ by using the QCD light-cone sum rules up to twist-4 accuracy and by including the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the twist-2 part, and then fix the related CKM matrix element and the decay width for the semi-leptonic decays $B(D)^+ \toη^{(\prime)}\ell^+ ν_\ell$.

$a_1(1260)$-meson longitudinal twist-2 distribution amplitude and the $D\to a_1(1260)\ell^+ν_\ell$ decay processes

In the paper, we investigate the moments $\langleξ_{2;a_1}^{\|;n}\rangle$ of the axial-vector $a_1(1260)$-meson distribution amplitude by using the QCD sum rules approach under the background field theory. By considering the vacuum condensates up to dimension-six and the perturbative part up to next-to-leading order QCD corrections, its first five moments at an initial scale $μ_0=1~{\rm GeV}$ are $\langleξ_{2;a_1}^{\|;2}\rangle|_{μ_0} = 0.223 \pm 0.029$, $\langleξ_{2;a_1}^{\|;4}\rangle|_{μ_0} = 0.098 \pm 0.008$, $\langleξ_{2;a_1}^{\|;6}\rangle|_{μ_0} = 0.056 \pm 0.006$, $\langleξ_{2;a_1}^{\|;8}\rangle|_{μ_0} = 0.039 \pm 0.004$ and $\langleξ_{2;a_1}^{\|;10}\rangle|_{μ_0} = 0.028 \pm 0.003$, respectively. We then construct a light-cone harmonic oscillator model for $a_1(1260)$-meson longitudinal twist-2 distribution amplitude $ϕ_{2;a_1}^{\|}(x,μ)$, whose model parameters are fitted by using the least squares method. As an application of $ϕ_{2;a_1}^{\|}(x,μ)$, we calculate the transition form factors (TFFs) of $D\to a_1(1260)$ in large and intermediate momentum transfers by using the QCD light-cone sum rules approach. At the largest recoil point ($q^2=0$), we obtain $ A(0) = 0.130_{ - 0.013}^{ + 0.015}$, $V_1(0) = 1.898_{-0.121}^{+0.128}$, $V_2(0) = 0.228_{-0.021}^{ + 0.020}$, and $V_0(0) = 0.217_{ - 0.025}^{ + 0.023}$. By applying the extrapolated TFFs to the semi-leptonic decay $D^{0(+)} \to a_1^{-(0)}(1260)\ell^+ν_\ell$, we obtain ${\cal B}(D^0\to a_1^-(1260) e^+ν_e) = (5.261_{-0.639}^{+0.745}) \times 10^{-5}$, ${\cal B}(D^+\to a_1^0(1260) e^+ν_e) = (6.673_{-0.811}^{+0.947}) \times 10^{-5}$, ${\cal B}(D^0\to a_1^-(1260) μ^+ ν_μ)=(4.732_{-0.590}^{+0.685}) \times 10^{-5}$, ${\cal B}(D^+ \to a_1^0(1260) μ^+ ν_μ)=(6.002_{-0.748}^{+0.796}) \times 10^{-5}$.

$B_c \to J/ψ$ helicity form factors and the $B_c^+ \to J/ψ+(P, V, \ell^+ ν_\ell)$ decays

In this paper, we calculate the $B_c\to J/ψ$ helicity form factors (HFFs) up to twist-4 accuracy by using the light-cone sum rules (LCSR) approach. After extrapolating those HFFs to the physically allowable $q^2$ region, we investigate the $B^+_c$-meson two-body decays and semi-leptonic decays $B_c^+ \to J/ψ+(P, V, \ell^+ ν_\ell)$ with $P/V$ stands for light pseudoscalar/vector meson, respectively. The branching fractions can be derived by using the CKM matrix element and the $B_c$ lifetime from the Particle Data Group, and we obtain ${\cal B}(B_c^+ \to J/ψπ^+)=(0.136^{+0.002}_{-0.002})\%$, ${\cal B}(B_c^+ \to J/ψK^+)=(0.010^{+0.000}_{-0.000})\%$, ${\cal B}(B_c^+ \to J/ψρ^+) =(0.768^{+0.029}_{-0.033})\%$, ${\cal B}(B_c^+ \to J/ψK^{\ast +})=(0.043^{+0.001}_{-0.001})\%$, ${\cal B}(B_c^+ \to J/ψμ^+ν_μ)=(2.802^{+0.526}_{-0.675})\%$ and ${\cal B}(B_c^+ \to J/ψτ^+ν_τ)=(0.559^{+0.131}_{-0.170})\%$. We then obtain ${\cal R}_{π^+/μ^+ν_μ} = 0.048^{+ 0.009}_{-0.012}$ and ${\cal R}_{K^+ / π^+} = 0.075^{+0.005}_{-0.005}$, which agree with the LHCb measured value within $1σ$-error. We also obtain ${\cal R}_{J/ψ}=0.199^{+ 0.060}_{-0.077}$, which like other theoretical predictions, is consistent with the LHCb measured value within $2σ$-error. Those imply that the HFFs under the LCSR approach are also applicable to the $B^+_c$ meson two-body decays and semi-leptonic decays $B_c^+ \to J/ψ+(P, V, \ell^+ ν_\ell)$, and the HFFs obtained by using LCSR in a new way implies that there may be new physics in the $B_c\to J/ψ\ell^+ ν_\ell$ semi-leptonic decays.

Fragmentation functions for gluon into $B_c$ or $B_c^*$ meson

In the paper, we calculate the fragmentation functions for $g \to B_c$ and $g \to B_c^*$. The ultraviolet divergences in the calculation are removed through the renormalization of the operator definition of the fragmentation functions under the modified minimal subtraction scheme. We then obtain the fragmentation functions $D_{g \to B_c}(z,μ_F)$ and $D_{g \to B_c^*}(z,μ_F)$, which are presented as figures and fitting functions. The obtained fragmentation functions are complementary to the previous work on the next-to-leading order fragmentation functions for $\bar{b}\to B_c(B_c^*)$ and $c\to B_c(B_c^*)$.

Investigating the ratio of CKM matrix elements $|V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}|$ from semileptonic decay $B_s^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ$ and kaon twist-2 distribution amplitude

In this paper, we calculate the ratio of Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements, $|V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}|$, based on the semileptonic decay $B_s^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ$. Its key component, the $B_s\to K$ transition form factor $f^{B_s\to K}_+(q^2)$, is studied within the QCD light-cone sum rules approach by using a chiral correlator. The derived $f^{B_s\to K}_+(q^2)$ is dominated by the leading-twist part, and to improve its precision, we construct a new model for the kaon leading-twist distribution amplitude $ϕ_{2;K}(x,μ)$, whose parameters are fixed by using the least squares method with the help of the moments calculated by using the QCD sum rules within the background field theory. The first four moments at the initial scale $μ_0 = 1~{\rm GeV}$ are, $\langle ξ^1\rangle _{2;K} = -0.0438^{+0.0053}_{-0.0075}$, $\langle ξ^2\rangle _{2;K} = 0.262 \pm 0.010$, $\langle ξ^3\rangle _{2;K} = -0.0210^{+0.0024}_{-0.0035}$ and $\langle ξ^4\rangle _{2;K} = 0.132 \pm 0.006$, respectively. And their corresponding Gegenbauer moments are, $a^{2;K}_1 = -0.0731^{+0.0089}_{-0.0124}$, $a^{2;K}_2 = 0.182^{+0.029}_{-0.030}$, $a^{2;K}_3 = -0.0114^{+0.0008}_{-0.0016}$ and $a^{2;K}_4 = 0.041^{-0.003}_{+0.005}$, respectively. At the large recoil region, we obtain $f^{B_s\to K} _+ (0) = 0.270^{+0.022}_{-0.030}$. By extrapolating $f^{B_s\to K}_+(q^2)$ to all the physical allowable region, we obtain a $|V_{ub}|$-independent decay width for the semileptonic decay $B_s^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ$, $5.626^{+1.271}_{-0.864} \times 10^{-12}\ {\rm GeV}$, which then leads to $|V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}| = 0.072\pm0.005$.

Novel and self-consistency analysis of the QCD running coupling $α_s(Q)$ in both the perturbative and nonperturbative domains

The QCD coupling $α_s$ is the most important parameter for achieving precise QCD predictions. By using the well measured effective coupling $α^{g_1}_{s}(Q)$ defined from the Bjorken sum rules as a basis, we suggest a novel and self-consistency way to fix the $α_s$ at all scales: The QCD light-front holographic model is adopted for its infrared behavior, and the fixed-order pQCD prediction under the principle of maximum conformality (PMC) is used for its high-energy behavior. Using the PMC scheme-and-scale independent perturbative series, and by transforming it into the one under the physical $V$-scheme, we observe that a precise $α_s$ running behavior in both the perturbative and nonperturbative domains with a smooth transition from small to large scales can be achieved.

Production of the $B_c$ meson at the CEPC

In this paper, we make a detailed study on the production of the $B_c$, $B_c^*$, $B_c(2\,^1S_0)$, and $B^*_c(2\,^3S_1)$ mesons via the three planned running modes ($Z$, $W$, and $H$) at the future Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC). The fragmentation-function and full nonrelativistic QCD approaches are adopted to calculate the production cross sections. Considering the excited states shall decay to the ground $B_c$ state (e.g. $1^1S_0$-state) with almost $100\%$ probability, our numerical results show that up to next-to-leading order QCD corrections, there are about $1.4\times 10^8$ $B_c$ events to be accumulated via the $Z$ mode ($\sqrt{s}=m_{_Z}$) of the CEPC, but only about $1.6\times 10^4$ and $1.1\times 10^4$ $B_c$ events to be accumulated via the $W$ ($\sqrt{s}=160\,{\rm GeV}$) and $H$ ($\sqrt{s}=240\,{\rm GeV}$) modes, respectively. Since the $Z$ mode is the best mode among the three planned modes of the CEPC for studying the production of the $B_c$, $B_c^*$, $B_c(2\,^1S_0)$, and $B^*_c(2\,^3S_1)$ mesons and the differential distributions of these mesons may be measured precisely at this mode, we further present the differential cross sections $dσ/(dz\,d{\rm cos}θ)$ and $dσ/dz$ via the $Z$ mode of the CEPC.

The ratio $\mathcal{R}(D_s)$ for $B_s \to D_s \ellν_\ell$ by using the QCD light-cone sum rules within the framework of heavy quark effective field theory

In the paper, we study the $B_s\to D_s$ transition form factors by using the light-cone sum rules within the framework of heavy quark effective field theory. We adopt a chiral current correlation function to do the calculation, the resultant transition form factors $f_+^{B_s\to D_s}(q^2)$ and $f_0^{B_s\to D_s}(q^2)$ are dominated by the contribution of $D_s$-meson leading-twist distribution amplitude, while the contributions from less certain $D_s$-meson twist-3 distribution amplitudes are greatly suppressed. At the largest recoil point, we obtain $f_{+,0}^{B_s \to D_s}(0)=0.533^{+0.112}_{-0.094}$. By further extrapolating the transition form factors into all the physically allowable $q^2$ region with the help of the $z$-series parametrization approach, we calculate the branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(B_s \to D_s \ell^\prime ν_{\ell^\prime})$ with $(\ell^\prime= e,μ)$ and $\mathcal{B}(B_s \to D_s τν_τ)$, which gives $\mathcal{R}(D_s)=0.334\pm 0.017$.

$η^{(\prime)}$-meson twist-2 distribution amplitude within QCD sum rule approach and its application to the semi-leptonic decay $ D_s^+ \toη^{(\prime)}\ell^+ ν_\ell$

In this paper, we make a detailed discussion on the $η$ and $η'$-meson leading-twist light-cone distribution amplitude $ϕ_{2;η^{(\prime)}}(u,μ)$ by using QCD sum rules approach under the background field theory. Taking both the non-perturbative condensates up to dimension-six and NLO QCD corrections to the perturbative part, its first three moments $\langleξ^n_{2;η^{(\prime)}}\rangle|_{μ_0} $ with $n = (2,4,6)$ at initial scale $μ_0 = 1$ GeV can be determined. e.g. $\langleξ_{2;η}^2\rangle|_{μ_0} =0.231_{-0.013}^{+0.010}$, $\langleξ_{2;η}^4 \rangle|_{μ_0} =0.109_{-0.007}^{+0.007}$, and $\langleξ_{2;η}^6 \rangle|_{μ_0} =0.066_{-0.006}^{+0.006}$ for $η$-meson, $\langleξ_{2;η'}^2\rangle|_{μ_0} =0.211_{-0.017}^{+0.015}$, $\langleξ_{2;η'}^4 \rangle|_{μ_0} =0.093_{-0.009}^{+0.009}$, and $\langleξ_{2;η'}^6 \rangle|_{μ_0} =0.054_{-0.008}^{+0.008}$ for $η'$-meson. Next, we calculate $D_s\toη^{(\prime)}$ TFFs $f^{η^{(\prime)}}_+(q^2)$ within QCD light-cone sum rules approach up to NLO level. The values at large recoil region are $f^η_+(0) = 0.476_{-0.036}^{+0.040}$ and $f^{η'}_+(0) = 0.544_{-0.042}^{+0.046}$. After extrapolating TFFs to the allowable physical regions within the series expansion, we obtain the branching fractions of the semi-leptonic decay, i.e. $D_s^+\toη^{(\prime)}\ell^+ ν_\ell$, i.e. ${\cal B}(D_s^+\toη^{(\prime)} e^+ν_e)=2.346_{-0.331}^{+0.418}(0.792_{-0.118}^{+0.141})\times10^{-2}$ and ${\cal B}(D_s^+\toη^{(\prime)} μ^+ν_μ)=2.320_{-0.327}^{+0.413}(0.773_{-0.115}^{+0.138})\times10^{-2}$ for $\ell = (e, μ)$ channels respectively. And in addition to that, the mixing angle for $η-η'$ with $φ$ and ratio for the different decay channels ${\cal R}_{η'/η}^\ell$ are given, which show good agreement with the recent BESIII measurements.

Average speed and its powers $v^n$ of a heavy quark in quarkonia

The typical velocity of a heavy quark in a quarkonium is a widely used quantity, in this paper, based on the relativistic Bethe-Salpeter equation method, we calculate the average values ${\overline{|\boldsymbol{q}|^n}}$ and $ \overline{|\boldsymbol{v}|^n}\equiv v^n$ of a heavy quark in a $S$ wave or $P$ wave quarkonium rest frame, where $\boldsymbol{q}$ and $\boldsymbol{v}$ are the three dimensional momentum and velocity, $n=1,2,3,4$. For a charm quark in $J/ψ$, we obtained $v_{J/ψ}=0.46$, $v^2_{J/ψ}=0.26$, $v^3_{J/ψ}=0.18$, and $v^4_{J/ψ}=0.14$, for a bottom quark in $Υ(1S)$, $v_{Υ(1S)}=0.24$, $v^2_{Υ(1S)}=0.072$, $v^3_{Υ(1S)}=0.025$, and $v^4_{Υ(1S)}=0.010$. The values indicate that ${v^n} >{v^{n_1}}\cdot{v^{n_2}}$, where $n_1+n_2=n$, which is correct for all the charmonia and bottomonia. Our results also show the poor convergence if we make the {speed} expansion in charmonium system, but good for bottomonium. Based on the $v^n$ values and the following obtained relations $v^n_{4S} > v^n_{3S}> v^n_{2S}>v^n_{1S}$, $v^n_{4P} > v^n_{3P}> v^n_{2P}>v^n_{1P}$ and $v^n_{mP}>v^n_{mS}$ ($n,m=1,2,3,4$), we conclude that highly excited quarkonia have larger relativistic corrections than those of the corresponding low excited and ground states, and there are large relativistic corrections in charmonium system.

Determination of the top-quark $\overline{\rm MS}$ running mass via its perturbative relation to the on-shell mass with the help of principle of maximum conformality

In the paper, we study the properties of the top-quark $\overline{\rm MS}$ running mass computed from its on-shell mass by using both the four-loop $\overline{\rm MS}$-on-shell relation and the principle of maximum conformality (PMC) scale-setting approach. The PMC adopts the renormalization group equation to set the correct magnitude of the strong running coupling of the perturbative series, its prediction avoids the conventional renormalization scale ambiguity, and thus a more precise pQCD prediction can be achieved. After applying the PMC to the four-loop $\overline{\rm MS}$-on-shell relation and taking the top-quark on-shell mass $M_t=172.9\pm0.4$ GeV as an input, we obtain the renormalization scale-invariant $\overline{\rm MS}$ running mass at the scale $m_t$, e.g., $m_t(m_t)\simeq 162.6\pm 0.4$ GeV, in which the error is the squared average of those from $Δα_s(M_Z)$, $ΔM_t$, and the approximate error from the uncalculated five-loop terms predicted by using the Padé approximation approach.

Gauge dependence of the perturbative QCD predictions under the momentum space subtraction scheme

The momentum space subtraction (MOM) scheme is one of the most frequently used renormalization schemes in perturbative QCD (pQCD) theory. In the paper, we make a detailed discussion on the gauge dependence of the pQCD prediction under the MOM scheme. Conventionally, there is renormalization scale ambiguity for the fixed-order pQCD predictions, which assigns an arbitrary range and an arbitrary error for the fixed-order pQCD prediction. The principle of maximum conformality (PMC) adopts the renormalization group equation to determine the magnitude of the coupling constant and hence determines an effective momentum flow of the process, which is independent to the choice of renormalization scale. There is thus no renormalization scale ambiguity in PMC predictions. To concentrate our attention on the MOM gauge dependence, we first apply the PMC to deal with the pQCD series. We adopt the Higgs boson decay width, $Γ(H\to gg)$, up to five-loop QCD contributions as an example to show how the gauge dependence behaves before and after applying the PMC. It is found that the Higgs decay width $Γ(H\to gg)$ depends very weakly on the choices of the MOM schemes, being consistent with the renormalization group invariance. It is found that the gauge dependence of $Γ(H\to gg)$ under the $\rm{MOMgg}$ scheme is less than $\pm1\%$, which is the smallest gauge dependence among all the mentioned MOM schemes.

Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the production of $B_c$ and $B_c^*$ through $W^+$-boson decays

In this paper, we calculate the total decay widths for the $W^+$-boson decays, $W^+ \to B_c+b+\bar{s}+X$ and $W^+ \to B^*_c+b+\bar{s}+X$, up to next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy within the framework of the nonrelativistic QCD theory. Both the fixed-order and the fragmentation approaches are adopted to do the calculation. Differential decay widths $dΓ/dz$ and $dΓ/ds_1$ are also given. We find that the NLO corrections are significant in those two $W^+$ decay channels. Our numerical results show that at the LHC, there are about $7.03\times 10^4$ $B_c$-meson events and $5.10\times 10^4$ $B^*_c$-meson events to be produced via the $W^+$-boson decays per operation year.

PMC$_\infty$: Infinite-Order Scale-Setting using the Principle of Maximum Conformality, A Remarkably Efficient Method for Eliminating Renormalization Scale Ambiguities for Perturbative QCD

We identify a property of renormalizable SU(N)/U(1) gauge theories, the intrinsic Conformality ($iCF$), which underlies the scale invariance of physical observables and leads to a remarkably efficient method to solve the conventional renormalization scale ambiguity at every order in pQCD: the PMC$_\infty$. This new method reflects the underlying conformal properties displayed by pQCD at NNLO, eliminates the scheme dependence of pQCD predictions and is consistent with the general properties of the PMC (Principle of Maximum Conformality). We introduce a new method to identify conformal and $β$-terms which can be applied either to numerical or to theoretical calculations. We illustrate the PMC$_\infty$ for the thrust and C-parameter distributions in $e^+ e^-$ annihilation and then we show how to apply this new method to general observables in QCD. We point out how the implementation of the PMC$_\infty$ can significantly improve the precision of pQCD predictions; its implementation in multi-loop analysis also simplifies the calculation of higher orders corrections in a general renormalizable gauge theory.

Renormalization Scale Setting for Heavy Quark Pair Production in $e^+e^-$ Annihilation near the Threshold Region

Heavy fermion pair production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation is a fundamental process in hadron physics and is of considerable interest for various phenomena. In this paper, we will apply the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) to provide a comprehensive analysis of these processes. The PMC provides a systematic, unambiguous method for determining the renormalization scales of the QCD coupling constant for single-scale and multiple-scale applications. The resulting predictions eliminate any renormalization scheme-and-scale ambiguities, eliminate the factorial renormalon divergences, and are consistent with the requirements of the renormalization group. It is remarkable that two distinctly different scales are determined by using the PMC for heavy fermion pair production near the threshold region. One scale is the order of the fermion mass $m_f$, which enters the hard virtual corrections, and the other scale is of order $ v\,m_f$, where $v$ is the quark velocity, which enters the Coulomb rescattering amplitude. The PMC scales yield the correct physical behavior and reflect the virtuality of the propagating gluons (photons) for the QCD (QED) processes. Moreover, we demonstrate the consistency of PMC scale setting from QCD to QED. Perfect agreement between the Abelian unambiguous Gell-Mann-Low and the PMC scale-setting methods in the limit of zero number of colors is demonstrated.

Revisiting the Bottom Quark Forward-Backward Asymmetry $A_{\rm {FB}}$ in Electron-Positron Collisions

The bottom quark forward-backward asymmetry $A_{\rm{FB}}$ is a key observable in electron-positron collisions at the $Z^{0}$ peak. In this paper, we employ the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) to fix the $α_s$-running behavior of the next-to-next-to-leading order QCD corrections to $A_{\rm{FB}}$. The resulting PMC scale for this $A_{\rm{FB}}$ is an order of magnitude smaller than the conventional choice $μ_r=M_Z$. This scale has the physically reasonable behavior and reflects the virtuality of its QCD dynamics, which is independent to the choice of renormalization scale. Our analyses show that the effective momentum flow for the bottom quark forward-backward asymmetry should be $μ_r\ll M_Z$ other than the conventionally suggested $μ_r=M_Z$. Moreover, the convergence of perturbative QCD series for $A_{\rm{FB}}$ is greatly improved using the PMC. Our prediction for the bare bottom quark forward-backward asymmetry is refined to be $A^{0,b}_{\rm FB}=0.1004\pm0.0016$, which diminishes the well known tension between the experimental determination for this (pseudo) observable and the respective Standard Model fit to $2.1σ$.

Revisiting the Heavy Vector Quarkonium Leptonic Widths

We revisit the heavy quarkonium leptonic decays $ψ(nS) \to \ell^+\ell^-$ and $Υ(nS) \to \ell^+\ell^-$ using the Bethe-Salpeter method. The emphasis is on the relativistic correction. For the $ψ(1S-5S)$ decays, the relativistic effects are $22^{+3}_{-2}\%$, $34^{+5}_{-5}\%$, $41^{+6}_{-6}\%$, $52^{+11}_{-13}\%$ and $62^{+14}_{-12}\%$, respectively. For the $Υ(1S-5S)$ decays, the relativistic effects are $14^{+1}_{-2}\%$, $23^{+0}_{-3}\%$, $20^{+8}_{-2}\%$, $21^{+6}_{-7}\%$ and $28^{+2}_{-7}\%$, respectively. Thus, the relativistic corrections are large and important in heavy quarkonium leptonic decays, especially for the highly excited charmonium. Our results for $Υ(nS) \to \ell^+\ell^-$ are consistent with the experimental data.

Scale-Fixed Predictions for $γ+ η_c$ production in electron-positron collisions at NNLO in perturbative QCD

In the paper, we present QCD predictions for $η_{c} + γ$ production at an electron-position collider up to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) accuracy without renormalization scale ambiguities. The NNLO total cross-section for $e^{+}+e^{-}\toγ+η_{c}$ using the conventional scale-setting approach has large renormalization scale ambiguities, usually estimated by choosing the renormalization scale to be the $e^+ e^-$ center-of-mass collision energy $\sqrt{s}$. The Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) provides a systematic way to eliminate such renormalization scale ambiguities by summing the nonconformal $β$ contributions into the QCD coupling $α_s(Q^2)$. The renormalization group equation then sets the value of $α_s$ for the process. The PMC renormalization scale reflects the virtuality of the underlying process, and the resulting predictions satisfy all of the requirements of renormalization group invariance, including renormalization scheme invariance. After applying the PMC, we obtain a scale-and-scheme independent prediction, $σ|_{\rm NNLO, PMC}\simeq 41.18$ fb for $\sqrt{s}$=10.6 GeV. The resulting pQCD series matches the series for conformal theory and thus has no divergent renormalon contributions. The large $K$ factor which contributes to this process reinforces the importance of uncalculated NNNLO and higher-order terms. Using the PMC scale-and-scheme independent conformal series and the $\rm Pad\acute{e}$ approximation approach, we predict $σ|_{\rm NNNLO, PMC+Pade} \simeq 21.36$ fb, which is consistent with the recent BELLE measurement $σ^{\rm obs}$=$16.58^{+10.51}_{-9.93}$ fb at $\sqrt{s} \simeq 10.6$ GeV. This procedure also provides a first estimate of the NNNLO contribution.

The $D\to ρ$ semileptonic and radiative decays within the light-cone sum rules

The measured branching ratio of the $D$ meson semileptonic decay $D \to ρe^+ ν_e$, which is based on the $0.82~{\rm fb^{-1}}$ CLEO data taken at the peak of $ψ(3770)$ resonance, disagrees with the traditional SVZ sum rules analysis by about three times. In the paper, we show that this discrepancy can be eliminated by applying the QCD light-cone sum rules (LCSR) approach to calculate the $D\to ρ$ transition form factors $A_{1,2}(q^2)$ and $V(q^2)$. After extrapolating the LCSR predictions of these TFFs to whole $q^2$-region, we obtain $1/|V_{\rm cd}|^2 \times Γ(D \to ρe ν_e) =(55.45^{+13.34}_{-9.41})\times 10^{-15}~{\rm GeV}$. Using the CKM matrix element and the $D^0(D^+)$ lifetime from the Particle Data Group, we obtain ${\cal B} (D^0\to ρ^- e^+ ν_e) = (1.749^{+0.421}_{-0.297}\pm 0.006)\times 10^{-3}$ and ${\cal B} (D^+ \to ρ^0 e^+ ν_e) = (2.217^{+0.534}_{-0.376}\pm 0.015)\times 10^{-3}$, which agree with the CLEO measurements within errors. We also calculate the branching ratios of the two $D$ meson radiative processes and obtain ${\cal B}(D^0\to ρ^0 γ)= (1.744^{+0.598}_{-0.704})\times 10^{-5}$ and ${\cal B}(D^+ \to ρ^+ γ) = (5.034^{+0.939}_{-0.958})\times 10^{-5}$, which also agree with the Belle measurements within errors. Thus we think the LCSR approach is applicable for dealing with the $D$ meson decays.

The heavy quarkonium inclusive decays using the principle of maximum conformality

The next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) pQCD correction to the inclusive decays of the heavy quarkonium $η_Q$ ($Q$ being $c$ or $b$) has been done in the literature within the framework of nonrelativistic QCD. One may observe that the NNLO decay width still has large conventional renormalization scale dependence due to its weaker pQCD convergence, e.g. about $(^{+4\%}_{-34\%})$ for $η_c$ and $(^{+0.0}_{-9\%})$ for $η_b$, by varying the scale within the range of $[m_Q, 4m_Q]$. The principle of maximum conformality (PMC) provides a systematic way to fix the $α_s$-running behavior of the process, which satisfies the requirements of renormalization group invariance and eliminates the conventional renormalization scheme and scale ambiguities. Using the PMC single-scale method, we show that the resultant PMC conformal series is renormalization scale independent, and the precision of the $η_Q$ inclusive decay width can be greatly improved. Taking the relativistic correction $\mathcal{O}(α_{s}v^2)$ into consideration, the ratios of the $η_{Q}$ decays to light hadrons or $γγ$ are: $R^{\rm NNLO}_{η_c}|_{\rm{PMC}}=(3.93^{+0.26}_{-0.24})\times10^3$ and $R^{\rm NNLO}_{η_b}|_{\rm{PMC}}=(22.85^{+0.90}_{-0.87})\times10^3$, respectively. Here the errors are for $Δα_s(M_Z) = \pm0.0011$. As a step forward, by applying the Pad$\acute{e}$ approximation approach (PAA) over the PMC conformal series, we obtain approximate NNNLO predictions for those two ratios, e.g. $R^{\rm NNNLO}_{η_c}|_{\rm{PAA+PMC}} =(5.66^{+0.65}_{-0.55})\times10^3$ and $R^{\rm NNNLO}_{η_b}|_{\rm{PAA+PMC}}=(26.02^{+1.24}_{-1.17})\times10^3$. The $R^{\rm NNNLO}_{η_c}|_{\rm{PAA+PMC}}$ ratio agrees with the latest PDG value $R_{η_c}^{\rm{exp}}=(5.3_{-1.4}^{+2.4})\times10^3$, indicating the necessity of a strict calculation of NNNLO terms.

The production of the doubly charmed baryon in deeply inelastic $ep$ scattering at the Large Hadron Electron Collider

In this paper, we carry out a detailed study on the production of the doubly charmed baryon in deeply inelastic $ep$ scattering (DIS) for $Q^2\in[2, 100]~\textrm{GeV}^2$, at the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) with $E_e=60(140)$ GeV and $E_p=7000$ GeV. To exclude the contributions from the diffractive productions and the $b$ hadron decays, we impose the kinematic cuts $0.3<z<0.9$, and $p_{t,\textrm{baryon}}^{\star2}>1~\textrm{GeV}^2$ in the center-of-mass (CM) frame of $γ^{*}p$. Based on the designed LHeC luminosity, by detecting the decay channel $Ξ^{+}_{cc}(Ξ^{++}_{cc}) \to Λ_c^{+}$ with the subsequent decay $Λ_c^{+} \to pK^{-}π^{+}$, we predict that about 1880 (2700) $Ξ^{+}_{cc}$ events and 3750 (5400) $Ξ^{++}_{cc}$ events can be accumulated per year, which signifies the prospect of observing them via the DIS at the forthcoming LHeC. In addition, we also predict the distributions of a rich variety of physical observables in the laboratory frame and the $γ^{*}p$ CM frame, including $Q^2$, $p_t^{2}$, $Y$(rapidity), $p_t^{\star2}$, $Y^{\star}$, $W$, and $z$ distributions, respectively, which can provide helpful references for studying the doubly charmed baryon. In conclusion, we think that in addition to the LHC, the LHeC is also a helpful platform for studying the properties of the doubly charmed baryon.

The QCD NLO fragmentation functions for $c$ or $\bar{b}$ quark to $B_c$ or $B_c^*$ meson and their application

The fragmentation functions for $c$ or $\bar{b}$ quark to $B_c$ or $B_c^*$ meson are derived up to QCD next-to-leading order (NLO). They are further computed numerically and presented in figures precisely. In order to reach a higher accuracy, we have also tried properly to apply them to estimating the $B_c$ and $B_c^*$ production at a $Z$-factory (an $e^+e^-$ collider running at the energy of the $Z$-boson pole).

Application of the Principle of Maximum Conformality to the Hadroproduction of the Higgs Boson at the LHC

We present improved pQCD predictions for Higgs boson hadroproduction at the Large Hadronic Collider (LHC) by applying the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC), a procedure which resums the pQCD series using the renormalization group (RG), thereby eliminating the dependence of the predictions on the choice of the renormalization scheme while minimizing sensitivity to the initial choice of the renormalization scale. In previous pQCD predictions for Higgs boson hadroproduction, it has been conventional to assume that the renormalization scale $μ_r$ of the QCD coupling $α_s(μ_r)$ is the Higgs mass, and then to vary this choice over the range $1/2 m_H < μ_r < 2 m_H $ in order to estimate the theory uncertainty. However, this error estimate is only sensitive to the non-conformal $β$ terms in the pQCD series, and thus it fails to correctly estimate the theory uncertainty in cases where pQCD series has large higher order contributions, as is the case for Higgs boson hadroproduction. Furthermore, this \mbox{\it ad hoc} choice of scale and range gives pQCD predictions which depend on the renormalization scheme being used, in contradiction to basic RG principles. In contrast, after applying the PMC, we obtain next-to-next-to-leading order RG resummed pQCD predictions for Higgs boson hadroproduction which are renormalization-scheme independent and have minimal sensitivity to the choice of the initial renormalization scale. Taking $m_H=125$ GeV, the PMC predictions for the $p p \to H X$ Higgs inclusive hadroproduction cross-sections for various LHC center-of-mass energies and the fiducial cross section $σ_{\rm fid}(pp\to H\toγγ)$ are presented...... The PMC predictions show better agreement with the ATLAS measurements than the LHC-XS predictions which are based on conventional renormalization scale-setting.

Heavy Pseudoscalar Twist-3 Distribution Amplitudes within QCD Theory in Background Fields

In this paper, we study the properties of the twist-3 distribution amplitude (DA) of the heavy pseudo-scalars such as $η_c$, $B_c$ and $η_b$. New sum rules for the twist-3 DA moments $\left<ξ^n_P\right>_{\rm HP}$ and $\left<ξ^n_σ\right>_{\rm HP}$ up to sixth orders and up to dimension-six condensates are deduced under the framework of the background field theory. Based on the sum rules for the twist-3 DA moments, we construct a new model for the two twist-3 DAs of the heavy pseudo-scalar with the help of the Brodsky-Huang-Lepage prescription. Furthermore, we apply them to the $B_c\toη_c$ transition form factor ($f^{B_c\toη_c}_+(q^2)$) within the light-cone sum rules approach, and the results are comparable with other approaches. It has been found that the twist-3 DAs $ϕ^P_{3;η_c}$ and $ϕ^σ_{3;η_c}$ are important for a reliable prediction of $f^{B_c\toη_c}_+(q^2)$. For example, at the maximum recoil region, we have $f^{B_c\toη_c}_+(0) = 0.674 \pm 0.066$, in which those two twist-3 terms provide $\sim33\%$ and $\sim22\%$ contributions. Also we calculate the branching ratio of the semi-leptonic decay $B_c \toη_c lν$ as $Br(B_c \toη_c lν) = \left( 9.31^{+2.27}_{-2.01} \right) \times 10^{-3}$.

The Higgs-Boson Decay $H\to gg$ to Order $α_s^5$ under the mMOM-Scheme

We study the decay width of the Higgs-boson $H\to gg$ up to order $α_s^5$ under the minimal momentum space subtraction scheme (mMOM-scheme). To improve the accuracy of perturbative QCD prediction, we adopt the principle of maximum conformality (PMC) to set its renormalization scales. A detailed comparison of the total decay width and the separate decay widths at each perturbative order before and after the PMC scale setting is presented. The PMC adopts the renormalization group equation to fix the optimal scales of the process. After the PMC scale setting, the scale-dependence for both the total and the separate decay widths are greatly suppressed, and the convergence of perturbative QCD series is improved. By taking the Higgs mass $M_H=125.09\pm 0.21\pm 0.11$ GeV, as recently given by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, we predict $Γ(H\to gg)|_{\rm mMOM, PMC} = 339.1\pm 1.7^{+4.0}_{-2.4}$ keV, where the first error is for Higgs mass and the second error is the residual scale dependence by varying the initial scale $μ_r\in[M_H/2,4M_H]$.

$B\to K^*$ Transition Form Factors and the Semi-leptonic Decay $B \to K^* μ^+ μ^-$

We present a detailed calculation on the $B\to K^*$ transition form factors (TFFs), $A_{0,1,2}$, $V$ and $T_{1,2,3}$, within the QCD light-cone sum rules (LCSR). To suppress the contributions from high-twist light-cone distribution amplitudes, we adopt a right-handed chiral correlator to do the LCSR calculation. In the resultant LCSRs for the TFFs, the transverse leading-twist distribution amplitude $ϕ_{2;K^*}^\bot$ provides over $90\%$ contribution, thus those TFFs provide good platforms for testing the property of $ϕ_{2;K^*}^\bot$. We suggest a model for $ϕ_{2;K^*}^\bot$, in which two parameters $B_{2;K^*}^\bot$ and $C_{2;K^*}^\bot$ dominantly control its longitudinal distribution. With a proper choice of $B_{2;K^*}^\bot$ and $C_{2;K^*}^\bot$, our predictions on $B\to K^*$ TFFs are consistent with those of lattice QCD predictions. As an application, we also calculate the branching fraction of the $B$-meson rare decay $B \to K^* μ^+ μ^-$. The predicted differential branching fraction $d{\cal B}/dq^2(B\to K^{*}μ^+μ^-)$ is consistent with the LHCb and Belle measurements within errors. After integrating over the allowable $q^2$-region, we get the branching fraction, ${\cal B}(B\to K^*μ^+μ^-) = \left(1.088^{+0.261}_{-0.205} \right)\times 10^{-6}$, where the errors are squared average of the mentioned error sources. When the precision of experimental measurements or the other source of theoretical uncertainties for this process have been further improved in the future, we may get a definite conclusion on the behavior of $ϕ_{2;K^*}^\bot$.

A Possible Solution to the $B\to ππ$ Puzzle Using the Principle of Maximum Conformality

The measured $B_d \to π^0π^0$ branching fraction deviates significantly from conventional QCD predictions, a puzzle which has persisted for more than 10 years. This may be a hint of new physics beyond the Standard Model; however, as we shall show in this paper, the pQCD prediction is highly sensitive to the choice of the renormalization scales which enter the decay amplitude. In the present paper, we show that the renormalization scale uncertainties for $B\to ππ$ can be greatly reduced by applying the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC), and more precise predictions for CP-averaged branching ratios ${\cal B}(B\toππ)$ can be achieved. Combining the errors in quadrature, we obtain ${\cal B}(B_{d}\to π^0π^0)|_{\rm PMC} = \left(0.98^{+0.44}_{-0.31}\right) \times10^{-6}$ by using the light-front holographic low-energy model for the running coupling. All of the CP-averaged $B\toππ$ branching fractions predicted by the PMC are consistent with the Particle Data Group average values and the recent Belle data. Thus, the PMC provides a possible solution for the $B_d \to π^0π^0$ puzzle.

Degeneracy Relations in QCD and the Equivalence of Two Systematic All-Orders Methods for Setting the Renormalization Scale

The Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) eliminates QCD renormalization scale-setting uncertainties using fundamental renormalization group methods. The resulting scale-fixed pQCD predictions are independent of the choice of renormalization scheme and show rapid convergence. The coefficients of the scale-fixed couplings are identical to the corresponding conformal series with zero $β$-function. Two all-orders methods for systematically implementing the PMC-scale setting procedure for existing high order calculations are discussed in this article. One implementation is based on the PMC-BLM correspondence \mbox{(PMC-I)}; the other, more recent, method \mbox{(PMC-II)} uses the ${\cal R}_δ$-scheme, a systematic generalization of the minimal subtraction renormalization scheme. Both approaches satisfy all of the principles of the renormalization group and lead to scale-fixed and scheme-independent predictions at each finite order. In this work, we show that PMC-I and PMC-II scale-setting methods are in practice equivalent to each other. We illustrate this equivalence for the four-loop calculations of the annihilation ratio $R_{e^+ e^-}$ and the Higgs partial width $Γ(H\to b\bar{b})$. Both methods lead to the same resummed (`conformal') series up to all orders. The small scale differences between the two approaches are reduced as additional renormalization group $\{β_i\}$-terms in the pQCD expansion are taken into account. We also show that {\it special degeneracy relations}, which underly the equivalence of the two PMC approaches and the resulting conformal features of the pQCD series, are in fact general properties of non-Abelian gauge theory.

General Properties on Applying the Principle of Minimum Sensitivity to High-order Perturbative QCD Predictions

As one of the key components of perturbative QCD theory, it is helpful to find a systematic and reliable way to set the renormalization scale for a high-energy process. The conventional treatment is to take a typical momentum as the renormalization scale, which assigns an arbitrary range and an arbitrary systematic error to pQCD predictions, leading to the well-known renormalization scheme and scale ambiguities. As a practical solution for such scale setting problem, the "Principle of Minimum Sensitivity" (PMS), has been proposed in the literature. The PMS suggests to determine an optimal scale for the pQCD approximant of an observable by requiring its slope over the scheme and scale changes to vanish. In the paper, we present a detailed discussion on general properties of PMS by utilizing three quantities $R_{e^+e^-}$, $R_τ$ and $Γ(H\rightarrow b\bar{b})$ up to four-loop QCD corrections. After applying the PMS, the accuracy of pQCD prediction, the pQCD convergence, the pQCD predictive power and etc., have been discussed. Furthermore, we compare PMS with another fundamental scale setting approach, i.e. the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC)... Our results show that PMS does provide a practical way to set the effective scale for high-energy process, and the PMS prediction agrees with the PMC one by including enough high-order QCD corrections, both of which shall be more accurate than the prediction under the conventional scale setting. However, the PMS pQCD convergence is an accidental, which usually fails to achieve a correct prediction of unknown high-order contributions with next-to-leading order QCD correction only, i.e. it is always far from the "true" values predicted by including more high-order contributions.

Predictions for the Top-Quark Forward-Backward Asymmetry at High Invariant Pair Mass Using the Principle of Maximum Conformality

The D0 collaboration at FermiLab has recently measured the top-quark pair forward-backward asymmetry in $\bar p p \to t \bar{t} X$ reactions as a function of the $t\bar{t} $ invariant mass $M_{t\bar{t}}$. The D0 result for $A_{\rm FB}(M_{t\bar{t}}>650\, {\rm GeV})$ is smaller than $A_{\rm FB}(M_{t\bar{t}})$ obtained for small values of $M_{t\bar{t}}$, which may indicate an "increasing-decreasing" behavior for $A_{\rm FB}(M_{t\bar{t}}>M_{\rm cut})$. This behavior is not explained using conventional renormalization scale-setting, even by a next-to-next-to-leading order (N$^2$LO) QCD calculation -- one predicts a monotonically increasing behavior. In the conventional scale-setting method, one simply guesses a single renormalization scale $μ_r$ for the argument of the QCD running coupling and then varies it over an arbitrary range. However, the conventional method has inherent difficulties. ...... In contrast, if one fixes the scale using the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC), the resulting pQCD predictions are renormalization-scheme independent since all of the scheme-dependent $\{β_i\}$-terms in the QCD perturbative series are resummed into the QCD running couplings at each order. ...... In this paper we show that if one applies the PMC to determine the top versus anti-top quark forward-backward asymmetry by properly using the pQCD predictions up to N$^2$LO level, one obtains the predictions without renormalization scheme or scale ambiguities. ...... In addition, the PMC prediction for $A_{\rm FB}(M_{t\bar{t}}> M_{\rm cut})$ shows an "increasing-decreasing" behavior for increasing values of $M_{\rm cut}$ which is not observed in the NLO and N$^2$LO predictions for $A_{\rm FB}(M_{t\bar{t}}> M_{\rm cut})$ with conventional scale-setting. This behavior could be tested by the future more precise measurements at the LHC.

Renormalization group improved pQCD prediction for $Υ(1S)$ leptonic decay

The complete next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order short-distance and bound-state QCD corrections to $Υ(1S)$ leptonic decay rate $Γ(Υ(1S)\to \ell^+\ell^-)$ has been finished by Beneke {\it et al.} \cite{Beneke:2014qea}. Based on those improvements, we present a renormalization group (RG) improved pQCD prediction for $Γ(Υ(1S)\to \ell^+\ell^-)$ by applying the principle of maximum conformality (PMC). The PMC is based on RG-invariance and is designed to solve the pQCD renormalization scheme and scale ambiguities. After applying the PMC, all known-type of $β$-terms at all orders, which are controlled by the RG-equation, are resummed to determine optimal renormalization scale for its strong running coupling at each order. We then achieve a more convergent pQCD series, a scheme- independent and more accurate pQCD prediction for $Υ(1S)$ leptonic decay, i.e. $Γ_{Υ(1S) \to e^+ e^-}|_{\rm PMC} = 1.270^{+0.137}_{-0.187}$ keV, where the uncertainty is the squared average of the mentioned pQCD errors. This RG-improved pQCD prediction agrees with the experimental measurement within errors.

Scale Setting Using the Extended Renormalization Group and the Principle of Maximum Conformality: the QCD Coupling Constant at Four Loops

A key problem in making precise perturbative QCD predictions is to set the proper renormalization scale of the running coupling. The extended renormalization group equations, which express the invariance of physical observables under both the renormalization scale- and scheme-parameter transformations, provide a convenient way for estimating the scale- and scheme-dependence of the physical process. In this paper, we present a solution for the scale-equation of the extended renormalization group equations at the four-loop level. Using the principle of maximum conformality (PMC) / Brodsky-Lepage-Mackenzie (BLM) scale-setting method, all non-conformal $\{β_i\}$ terms in the perturbative expansion series can be summed into the running coupling, and the resulting scale-fixed predictions are independent of the renormalization scheme. Different schemes lead to different effective PMC/BLM scales, but the final results are scheme independent. Conversely, from the requirement of scheme independence, one not only can obtain scheme-independent commensurate scale relations among different observables, but also determine the scale displacements among the PMC/BLM scales which are derived under different schemes. In principle, the PMC/BLM scales can be fixed order-by-order, and as a useful reference, we present a systematic and scheme-independent procedure for setting PMC/BLM scales up to NNLO. An explicit application for determining the scale setting of $R_{e^{+}e^-}(Q)$ up to four loops is presented. By using the world average $α^{\bar{MS}}_s(M_Z) =0.1184 \pm 0.0007$, we obtain the asymptotic scale for the 't Hooft associated with the $\bar{MS}$ scheme, $Λ^{'tH}_{\bar{MS}}= 245^{+9}_{-10}$ MeV, and the asymptotic scale for the conventional $\bar{MS}$ scheme, $Λ_{\bar{MS}}= 213^{+19}_{-8}$ MeV.

Setting the Renormalization Scale in pQCD: Comparisons of the Principle of Maximum Conformality with the Sequential Extended Brodsky-Lepage-Mackenzie Approach

A key problem in making precise perturbative QCD (pQCD) predictions is how to set the renormalization scale of the running coupling unambiguously at each finite order. The elimination of the uncertainty in setting the renormalization scale in pQCD will greatly increase the precision of collider tests of the Standard Model and the sensitivity to new phenomena. Renormalization group invariance requires that predictions for observables must also be independent on the choice of the renormalization scheme. The well-known Brodsky-Lepage-Mackenzie (BLM) approach cannot be easily extended beyond next-to-next-to-leading order of pQCD. Several suggestions have been proposed to extend the BLM approach to all-orders. In this paper we discuss two distinct methods. One is based on the "Principle of Maximum Conformality" (PMC), which provides a systematic all-orders method to eliminate the scale- and scheme- ambiguities of pQCD. The PMC extends the BLM procedure to all orders using renormalization group methods; as an outcome, it significantly improves the pQCD convergence by eliminating renormalon divergences. An alternative method is the "sequential extended BLM" (seBLM) approach, which has been primarily designed to improve the convergence of pQCD series. The seBLM, as originally proposed, introduces auxiliary fields and follows the pattern of the $β_0$-expansion to fix the renormalization scale. However, the seBLM requires a recomputation of pQCD amplitudes including the auxiliary fields; due to the limited availability of calculations using these auxiliary fields, the seBLM has only been applied to a few processes at low-orders......

The Importance of Proper Renormalization Scale-Setting for Testing QCD at Colliders

A primary problem for perturbative QCD analyses is how to set the renormalization scale of the QCD running coupling in order to achieve maximally precise fixed-order predictions for physical observables. The Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) eliminates the ambiguities associated with the conventional renormalization scale-setting procedure, giving predictions which are independent of the choice of renormalization scheme. The scales of the QCD couplings and the effective number of quark flavors are set order by order in the pQCD series. The PMC has a solid theoretical foundation, satisfying the standard renormalization group invariance and all of the the self-consistency conditions derived from the renormalization group......In this brief report, we summarize the results of our recent PMC applications for a number of collider processes, emphasizing their generality and applicability....... These results demonstrate that the application of the PMC systematically eliminates a major theoretical uncertainty for pQCD predictions, thus increasing the sensitivity of the colliders to possible new physics beyond the Standard Model.

The longitudinal and transverse distributions of the pion wavefunction from the present experimental data on the pion-photon transition form factor

It is noted that the low-energy behavior of the pion-photon transition form factor $F_{πγ}(Q^2)$ is sensitive to the transverse distribution of the pion wavefunction, and its high-energy behavior is sensitive to the longitudinal one. Thus a careful study on $F_{πγ}(Q^2)$ can provide helpful information on the pion wavefunction precisely. In this paper, we present a combined analysis of the data on $F_{πγ}(Q^2)$ reported by the CELLO, the CLEO, the BABAR and the BELLE collaborations. It is performed by using the method of least squares. By using the combined measurements of BELLE and CLEO Collaborations, the pion wavefunction longitudinal and transverse behavior can be fixed to a certain degree, i.e. we obtain $β\in [0.691,0.757] \rm GeV$ and $B \in [0.00,0.235]$ for $P_{χ^2} \geq 90\%$, where $β$ and $B$ are two parameters of a convenient pion wavefunction model whose distribution amplitude can mimic the various longitudinal behavior under proper choice of parameters. We observe that the CELLO, CLEO and BELLE data are consistent with each other, all of which prefers the asymptotic-like distribution amplitude; while the BABAR data prefers a more broad distribution amplitude, such as the CZ-like one.

The prompt $J/ψ$ production in Association with a $c\bar{c}$ Pair within the Framework of Non-relativistic QCD via photon-photon collision at the International Linear Collider

We present a systematical study on the prompt $J/ψ$ production in association with a $c\bar{c}$ pair via the process, $γγ\to H(c\bar{c}) +c+\bar{c}$, within the framework of non-relativistic QCD at the future high-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider - International Linear Collider (ILC), including both direct and feed-down contributions. For direct $J/ψ$ production, the states with color-octet channels, especially the $^3P_J^{[8]}$ and $^1S_0^{[8]}$ ones, provide dominant contribution to the production cross-section, which are about fifty-two times over that of the color-singlet one. This is clearly shown by the transverse momentum ($p_t$) and rapidity distributions. The feed-down contribution from $ψ'$ and $χ_{cJ}$ ($J=0,1,2$) is sizable, which is about $20\%$ to the total prompt cross-section. Besides the yields, we also calculate the $J/ψ$ polarization parameter $λ$. In small $p_t$ region, the polarization of the prompt $J/ψ$ is longitudinal due to large contributions through the $^3P_J^{[8]}$ channel, and becomes transverse in high $p_t$ region due to $^3S_1^{[8]}$ channel. Thus the $J/ψ$ production via photon-photon collisions at the ILC shall provide a useful platform for testing the color-octet mechanism.

$V_{cb}$ from the semileptonic decay $B\to D \ell \barν_{\ell}$ and the properties of the $D$ meson distribution amplitude

The improved QCD light-cone sum rule (LCSR) provides an effective way to deal with the heavy-to-light transition form factors (TFFs). Firstly, we adopt the improved LCSR approach to deal with the $B\to D$ TFF $f^{+}(q^2)$ up to twist-4 accuracy. Due to the elimination of the most uncertain twist-3 contribution and the large suppression of the twist-4 contribution, the obtained LCSR shall provide us a good platform for testing the $D$-meson leading-twist DA. For the purpose, we suggest a new model for the $D$-meson leading-twist DA ($ϕ_{3D}$), whose longitudinal behavior is dominantly determined by a parameter $B$. Moreover, we find its second Gegenbauer moment $a^D_2\sim B$. Varying $B$ within certain region, one can conveniently mimic the $D$-meson DA behavior suggested in the literature. Inversely, by comparing the estimations with the experimental data on the $D$-meson involved processes, one can get a possible range for the parameter $B$ and a determined behavior for the $D$-meson DA. Secondly, we discuss the $B\to D$ TFF at the maximum recoil region and present a detailed comparison of it with the pQCD estimation and the experimental measurements. Thirdly, by applying the LCSR on $f^{+}(q^2)$, we study the CKM matrix element $\Vcb$ together with its uncertainties by adopting two types of processes, i.e. the $B^0/\bar{B}^0$-type and the $B^{\pm}$-type. It is noted that a smaller $B \precsim 0.20$ shows a better agreement with the experimental value on $\Vcb$. For example, for the case of $B=0.00$, we obtain $|V_{cb}|(B^0/\bar{B}^0-{\rm type})=(41.28 {^{+5.68}_{-4.82}} {^{+1.13}_{-1.16}}) \times 10^{-3}$ and $|V_{cb}|(B^{\pm}-{\rm type})=(40.44 {^{+5.56}_{-4.72}} {^{+0.98}_{-1.00}}) \times 10^{-3}$, whose first (second) uncertainty comes from the squared average of the mentioned theoretical (experimental) uncertainties.

An analysis of $H \to γγ$ up to three-loop QCD corrections

The principle of maximum conformality (PMC) provides a convenient way for setting the optimal renormalization scales for high-energy processes, which can eliminate the conventional renormalization scale error via an order-by-order manner. At present, we make a detailed PMC analysis on the Higgs decay $H\rightarrow γγ$ up to three-loop QCD corrections. As an important point of deriving reliable PMC estimation, it is noted that only those $\{β_i\}$-terms that rightly determine the running behavior of coupling constant via the renormalization group equation should be absorbed into the coupling constant, and those $\{β_i\}$-terms that pertain to the quark mass renormalization and etc. should be kept as a separate. To avoid confusion of separating and absorbing different types of $\{β_i\}$-terms into the coupling constant, we first transform the decay width in terms of top quark $\overline{\rm MS}$ mass into that of on-shell mass and then apply the PMC scale setting. After applying PMC scale setting, the final estimation is conformal and is scheme-independent and scale-independent. Up to three-loop QCD corrections, we obtain a PMC scale $μ^{\rm PMC}_{r}=242.3$ GeV $\sim 2M_H$, which is optimal and highly independent of any choice of initial scale. Thus, we obtain a more accurate scale-independent prediction by taking the Higgs mass as the same as that of ATLAS and CMS measurements, i.e., $Γ(H\rightarrow γγ)|_{\rm ATLAS}=9.504^{+0.226}_{-0.252}$ keV and $Γ(H\rightarrow γγ)|_{\rm CMS}=9.568^{+0.195}_{-0.191}$ keV, where the error is caused by the measured Higgs mass, i.e. the Higgs mass $M_{H}$ is taken as $125.5\pm0.2^{+0.5}_{-0.6}$ GeV for ATLAS and $125.7\pm0.3\pm0.3$ GeV for CMS, respectively.

Application of the Principle of Maximum Conformality to the Top-Quark Charge Asymmetry at the LHC

The Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) provides a systematic and process-independent method to derive renormalization scheme- and scale- independent fixed-order pQCD predictions. In Ref.\cite{pmc3}, we studied the top-quark charge asymmetry at the Tevatron. By applying the PMC, we have shown that the large discrepancies for the top-quark charge asymmetry between the Standard Model estimate and the CDF and D0 data are greatly reduced. In the present paper, with the help of the Bernreuther-Si program, we present a detailed PMC analysis on the top-quark pair production up to next-to-next-to-leading order level at the LHC. After applying PMC scale setting, the pQCD prediction for the top-quark charge asymmetry at the LHC has very small scale uncertainty; e.g., $A_{\rm C}|_{\rm 7 TeV;PMC} =\left(1.15^{+0.01}_{-0.03}\right)\%$, $A_{\rm C}|_{\rm 8 TeV;PMC} =\left(1.03^{+0.01}_{+0.00}\right)\%$, and $A_{\rm C}|_{\rm 14 TeV;PMC} =\left(0.62^{+0.00}_{-0.02}\right)\%$. The corresponding predictions using conventional scale setting are: $A_{\rm C}|_{\rm 7 TeV;Conv.} =\left(1.23^{+0.14}_{-0.14}\right)\%$, $A_{\rm C}|_{\rm 8 TeV;Conv.} =\left(1.11^{+0.17}_{-0.13}\right)\%$, and $A_{\rm C}|_{\rm 14 TeV;Conv.} =\left(0.67^{+0.05}_{-0.05}\right)\%$. In these predictions, the scale errors are predicted by varying the initial renormalization and factorization scales in the ranges $μ^{\rm init}_r\in[m_t/2,2m_t]$ and $μ_f\in[m_t/2,2m_t]$. The PMC predictions are also in better agreement with the available ATLAS and CMS data. In addition, we have calculated the top-quark charge asymmetry assuming several typical cuts on the top-pair invariant mass $M_{t\bar{t}}$. For example, assuming $M_{t\bar{t}}>0.5 ~ {\rm TeV}$ and $μ_f=μ^{\rm init}_r =m_t$, we obtain $A_{\rm C}|_{\rm 7 TeV;PMC}=2.67\%$, $A_{\rm C}|_{\rm 8 TeV;PMC}=2.39\%$, and $A_{\rm C}|_{\rm 14 TeV;PMC}=1.28\%$.

Bottomonium production associated with a photon at a high luminosity $e^+e^-$ collider with next-to-leading order QCD corrections

We make a detailed discussion on the one-loop QCD correction to the bottomonium production associated with a photon, i.e. via the channel $e^{+}e^{-} \toγ^*/Z^0 \to |H_{b\bar{b}}\rangle + γ$, where $|H_{b\bar{b}}\rangle$ stands for the color-singlet bottomonium state as $η_b$, $Υ$, $h_b$ or $χ_{bJ}$ ($J$=0, 1 or 2), respectively. At the super $Z$ factory with the collision energy $E_{cm} \sim m_Z$, by summing up the cross sections for all bottomonium states, we obtain a large one-loop QCD correction, i.e. $|R|\sim 30\%$. This ensures the necessity and importance of the one-loop QCD corrections for the present processes. Further more, for the $η_b$, $h_b$ and $χ_{bJ}$ production, their cross sections are dominated by the $s$-channel diagrams and are enhanced by the $Z^0$ boson resonance effect when $E_{cm}\sim m_Z$. While, for the $Υ$ production, such resonance effect shall be smeared by a large $t(u)$-channel contribution that dominant over the $s$-channel one. Theoretical uncertainties caused by slight change of $E_{cm}$, the $b$-quark mass, the renormalization scale and etc. have been presented. At the super $Z$ factory with a high luminosity up to ${\cal L}=10^{36}{\rm cm}^{-2}{\rm s}^{-1}$, the bottomonium plus one photon events are sizable, especially for $η_b$ and $Υ$, which have large signal significance. Summing up all bottomonium states, we shall totally have $\sim 3.8\times10^{5}$ bottomonium events in one operation year. So, the super $Z$ factory shall provide a good platform for studying the bottomonium properties.

Hadronic decays of the spin-singlet heavy quarkomium under the principle of maximum conformality

The principle of maximum conformality (PMC) provides a way to eliminate the conventional renormalization scale ambiguity in a systematic way. By applying the PMC scale setting, all non-conformal terms in perturbative series are summed into the running coupling, and one obtains a unique, scale-fixed prediction at any finite order. In the paper, we make a detailed PMC analysis for the spin-singlet heavy quarkoniums decay (into light hadrons) at the next-to-leading order. After applying the PMC scale setting, the decay widths for all those cases are almost independent of the initial renormalization scales. The PMC scales for $η_c$ and $h_c$ decays are below $1$ GeV, in order to achieve a confidential pQCD estimation, we adopt several low-energy running coupling models to do the estimation. By taking the MPT model, we obtain: $Γ(η_{c} \to LH)=25.09^{+5.52}_{-4.28}$ MeV, $Γ(η_{b} \to LH)=14.34^{+0.92}_{-0.84}$ MeV, $Γ(h_{c} \to LH)=0.54^{+0.06}_{-0.04}$ MeV and $Γ(h_{b} \to LH)=39.89^{+0.28}_{-0.46}$ KeV, where the errors are calculated by taking $m_{c}\in[1.40\rm GeV,1.60\rm GeV]$ and $m_{b}\in[4.50\rm GeV,4.70\rm GeV]$. These decay widths agree with the principle of minimum sensitivity estimations, in which the decay widths of $η_{c,b}$ are also consistent with the measured ones.

Hadronic production of $Ξ_{cc}$ at a fixed-target experiment at the LHC

In the paper, we present a detailed discussion on the $Ξ_{cc}$ production at a fixed target experiment at the LHC (After@LHC). The doubly charmed baryon $Ξ_{cc}$ is produced via the channel, ${\rm Proton} + {\rm Proton}\toΞ_{cc}+X$. In estimating its hadroproduction, we discuss three dominant subprocesses, e.g. $g+g\to Ξ_{cc} +\bar{c} +\bar{c}$, $g+c\to Ξ_{cc}+\bar{c}$ and $c+c\to Ξ_{cc}+g$. During the production, it shall first generate a binding diquark and then form the $Ξ_{cc}$ baryon by grabbing soft light-quarks or gluons. We observe that both the two diquark configurations $(cc)[^3S_1]_{\bf\bar 3}$ and $(cc)[^1S_0]_{\bf 6}$ can have sizable contributions to the $Ξ_{cc}$ production. Large number of $Ξ_{cc}$ events can be generated at the After@LHC, whose total production cross section is larger than that of the SELEX experiment by about thirty-five times. It may also possible to study the properties of $Ξ_{bc}$ at the After@LHC. More specifically, we shall have about $8.3 \times 10^6$ $Ξ_{cc}$ events/year and $1.8 \times 10^4$ $Ξ_{bc}$ events/year when its integrated luminosity approaches to $2$ fb$^{-1}$/year. Thus, in addition to SELEX and LHC, the After@LHC shall provide another useful platform for studying the baryon properties.

Heavy and light meson wavefunctions

We present a short review on the properties of heavy and light mesons' light-cone wavefunctions (LCWFs), and their distribution amplitudes (DAs). The B meson LCWFs can be treated by taking the heavy quark limit ($m_b\to\infty$) and by using the heavy quark effective theory. Furthermore, we propose a simple model for the B meson WFs with 3-particle Fock states' contributions, whose behaviors are controlled by two parameters $\barΛ$ and $δ$. Using such model, the form factors $F^{B\toπ}_{+,0,T}$ and $F^{B\to K}_{+,0,T}$ in large recoil region are studied up to ${\cal O}(1/m_b^2)$ within the $k_T$ factorization approach. On the other hand, we adopt Brodsky-Huang-Lepage (BHL) prescription for constructing the WFs of the lighter pseudoscalars as $η_c$, D-meson, pion, kaon, $η^{(\prime)}$ and etc. Such BHL-like model can be conveniently extended to construct the LCWFs for light scalar or vector mesons. Within such model the longitudinal distributions of those WFs are basically determined by a parameter $B$, whose value can be determined via a global fit of experimental data.

Heavy Pseudoscalar Leading-Twist Distribution Amplitudes within QCD Theory in Background Fields

In this paper, we study the leading-twist distribution amplitude (DA) of the heavy pseudoscalars (HPs), such as $η_c$, $η_b$ and $B_c$, within the QCD theory in the background fields. New sum rules up to dimension-six condensates for both the HP decay constants and their leading-twist DA moments are presented. From the sum rules for the HP decay constants, we obtain $f_{η_c} = 453 \pm 4 \textrm{MeV}$, $f_{B_c} = 498 \pm 14 \textrm{MeV}$, and $f_{η_b} = 811 \pm 34 \textrm{MeV}$. Basing on the sum rules for the HPs' leading-twist DA moments, we construct a new model for the $η_c$, $η_b$ and $B_c$ leading-twist DAs. Our present HP DA model can also be adaptable for the light pseudo-scalar DAs, such as the pion and kaon DAs. Thus, it shall be applicable for a wide range of QCD exclusive processes. As an application, we apply the $η_c$ leading-twist DA to calculate the $B_c \to η_c$ transition form factor $f_+^{B_c \to η_c}(q^2)$. At the maximum recoil region, we obtain $f_+^{B_c \to η_c}(0) = 0.612^{+0.053}_{-0.052}$. After further extrapolating the TFF $f_+^{B_c \to η_c}(q^2)$ to its allowable $q^2$ region, we predict the branching ratio for the semi-leptonic decay $B_c \to η_c l ν$. We obtain ${\cal B}(B_c \to η_c l ν)=\left(7.70^{+1.65}_{-1.48}\right) \times 10^{-3}$ for massless leptons, which is consistent with the LCSRs estimation obtained in the literature.

Photoproduction of doubly heavy baryon at the ILC

In the present paper, we make a detailed study on the doubly heavy baryon photoproduction in the future $e^+e^-$ International Linear Collider (ILC). The baryons $Ξ_{cc}$, $Ξ_{bc}$, and $Ξ_{bb}$ are produced via the channel $γγ\to Ξ_{QQ'} +\bar{Q'} +\bar{Q}$, where $Q$ and $Q'$ stand for heavy $c$ or $b$ quark, respectively. As for the $Ξ_{QQ'}$-baryon production, it shall first generate a $(QQ')[n]$-diquark and then form the final baryon via fragmentation, where $[n]$ stands for the color- and spin- configurations for the $(QQ')$-diquark states. According to the non-relativistic QCD theory, four diquark configurations shall provide sizable contributions to the baryon production, e.g., $[n]$ equals $[^3S_1]_{\bar{\textbf{3}}}$, $[^1S_0]_{\textbf{6}}$, $[^3S_1]_{\textbf{6}}$, or $[^1S_0]_{\bar{\textbf{3}}}$, respectively. We adopt the improved helicity amplitude approach for the hard scattering amplitude to improve the calculation efficiency. Total and differential cross sections of those channels, as well as the theoretical uncertainties, are presented. We show that sizable amounts of baryon events can be generated at the ILC, i.e., about $2.0\times 10^{6}$ $Ξ_{cc}$, $2.2\times 10^{5}$ $Ξ_{bc}$, as well as $3.0\times 10^{3}\;Ξ_{bb}$ events are to be generated in one operation year for $\sqrt{S}=500$ GeV and ${\cal L}\simeq 10^{36}$cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$.

Photoproduction of the heavy quarkonium at the ILC

We study the photoproduction of the heavy quarkonium at the future International Linear Collider (ILC) within the nonrelativistic QCD theory. We focus on the production channel via the subprocess $γγ\to |[Q\bar{Q'}]_{\bf 1}(n)>+Q'+\bar{Q}$, where $Q$ and $Q'$ stand for heavy $c$- or $b$-quark, respectively. $|[Q\bar{Q'}]_{\bf 1}(n)>$ stands for color-singlet $S$-wave quarkonium, i.e., $η_{c}(|[c\bar{c}]_{\bf 1}(^1S_0)>)$, $J/ψ(|[c\bar{c}]_{\bf 1}(^3S_1)>)$, $B_{c}(|[c\bar{b}]_{\bf 1}(^1S_0)>)$, $B^*_{c}(|[c\bar{b}]_{\bf 1}(^3S_1)>)$, $η_{b}(|[b\bar{b}]_{\bf 1}(^1S_0)>)$, and $Υ(|[b\bar{b}]_{\bf 1}(^3S_1)>)$, respectively. To improve the calculation efficiency, we adopt the improved helicity amplitude approach to deal with the difficulty of calculating the expressions for the yields when the quark masses cannot be neglected. Total and differential photoproduction cross sections, together with their uncertainties, have been presented. It is noted that sizable amount of $|c\bar{c}>$-charmonium and $|c\bar{b}>$-quarkonium events can be generated at the ILC. More specifically, we predict $(2.8^{+1.0}_{-0.7})\times 10^{6}$ $η_c$, $(5.4^{+1.9}_{-1.3})\times 10^{6}$ $J/ψ$, $(8.3^{+2.2}_{-1.8})\times 10^{4}$ $B_c$, $(4.3^{+1.1}_{-0.9})\times 10^{5}$ $B_c^*$, $(9.0^{+1.7}_{-1.4})\times 10^{3}$ $η_b$, and $(1.6\pm0.3)\times 10^{4}$ $Υ$ events to be generated in one operation year at the ILC under the condition of $\sqrt{S}=500$ GeV and ${\cal L}\simeq 10^{36}$cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$.

QCD corrections to the $B_c$ to charmonia semi-leptonic decays

We present a detailed analysis on the $B_c$ meson semi-leptonic decays, $B_c \to η_c (J/ψ) \ell ν$, up to next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD correction. We adopt the principle of maximum conformality (PMC) to set the renormalization scales for those decays. After applying the PMC scale setting, we determine the optimal renormalization scale for the $B_c\toη_c(J/ψ)$ transition form factors (TFFs). Because of the same $\{β_0\}$-terms, the optimal PMC scales at the NLO level are the same for all those TFFs, i.e. $μ_r^{\rm PMC} \approx 0.8{\rm GeV}$. We adopt a strong coupling model from the massive perturbation theory (MPT) to achieve a reliable pQCD estimation in this low energy region. Furthermore, we adopt a monopole form as an extrapolation for the $B_c\toη_c(J/ψ)$ TFFs to all their allowable $q^2$ region. Then, we predict $Γ_{B_c \to η_c \ell ν}(\ell=e,μ) =(71.53^{+11.27}_{-8.90})\times 10^{-15} {\rm GeV}$, $Γ_{B_c \to η_c τν}=(27.14^{+5.93}_{-4.33})\times 10^{-15} {\rm GeV}$, $Γ_{B_c \to J/ψ\ell ν}(\ell=e,μ) =(106.31^{+18.59}_{-14.01}) \times 10^{-15} {\rm GeV}$, $Γ_{B_c \to J/ψτν} =(28.25^{+6.02}_{-4.35})\times 10^{-15} {\rm GeV}$, where the uncertainties are squared averages of all the mentioned error sources. We show that the present prediction of the production cross section times branching ratio for $B^+_c\to J/ψ\ell^+ v$ relative to that for $B^+ \to J/ψK^+$, i.e. $\Re(J/ψ\ell^+ ν)$, is in a better agreement with CDF measurements than the previous predictions.

Reanalysis of the Higher Order Perturbative QCD corrections to Hadronic $Z$ Decays using the Principle of Maximum Conformality

A complete calculation of the ${\cal O}(α_s^4)$ perturbative QCD corrections to the hadronic decay width of the $Z$-boson has recently been performed by Baikov et al.[1]. In their analysis, Baikov et al. relied on the conventional practice of simply guessing the renormalization scale and taking an arbitrary range to estimate the pQCD uncertainties. This procedure inevitably introduces an arbitrary, scheme-dependent theoretical systematic error in the predictions. In this paper, we show that the renormalization scale uncertainties for hadronic $Z$ decays can be greatly reduced by applying the principle of maximum conformality (PMC), a rigorous extension of the BLM method. The PMC prediction is independent of the choice of renormalization scheme; i.e., it respects renormalization group invariance, and thus it provides an optimal and theoretically rigorous method for setting the renormalization scale. We show that the convergence of the pQCD prediction for the $Z$ hadronic width is greatly improved using the PMC since the divergent renormalon series does not appear. The magnitude of the high-order corrections quickly approach a steady point. The PMC predictions also have the property that any residual dependence on the choice of initial scale is highly suppressed, even for low-order predictions. Thus, one obtains optimal fixed-order predictions for the $Z$-boson hadronic decay rates thus enabling high precision tests of the Standard Model.

Revisiting the Pion Leading-Twist Distribution Amplitude within the QCD Background Field Theory

We study the pion leading-twist distribution amplitude (DA) within the framework of SVZ sum rules under the background field theory. To improve the accuracy of the sum rules, we expand both the quark propagator and the vertex $(z\cdot \tensor{D})^n$ of the correlator up to dimension-six operators in the background field theory. The sum rules for the pion DA moments are obtained, in which all condensates up to dimension-six have been taken into consideration. Using the sum rules, we obtain $\left<ξ^2\right>|_{\rm 1\;GeV} = 0.338 \pm 0.032$, $\left<ξ^4\right>|_{\rm 1\;GeV} = 0.211 \pm 0.030$ and $\left<ξ^6\right>|_{\rm 1\;GeV} = 0.163 \pm 0.030$. It is shown that the dimension-six condensates shall provide sizable contributions to the pion DA moments. We show that the first Gegenbauer moment of the pion leading-twist DA is $a^π_2|_{\rm 1\;GeV} = 0.403 \pm 0.093$, which is consistent with those obtained in the literature within errors but prefers a larger central value as indicated by lattice QCD predictions.

Systematic Scale-Setting to All Orders: The Principle of Maximum Conformality and Commensurate Scale Relations

We present in detail a new systematic method which can be used to automatically eliminate the renormalization scheme and scale ambiguities in perturbative QCD predictions at all orders. We show that all of the nonconformal β-dependent terms in a QCD perturbative series can be readily identified by generalizing the conventional renormalization schemes based on dimensional regularization. We then demonstrate that the nonconformal series of pQCD at any order can be resummed systematically into the scale of the QCD coupling in a unique and unambiguous way due to a special degeneracy of the β-terms in the series. The resummation follows from the principal of maximum conformality (PMC) and assigns a unique scale for the running coupling at each perturbative order. The final result is independent of the initial choices of renormalization scheme and scale, in accordance with the principles of the renormalization group, and thus eliminates an unnecessary source of systematic error in physical predictions. We exhibit several examples known to order α_s^4; i.e. i) the electron-positron annihilation into hadrons, ii) the tau-lepton decay to hadrons, iii) the Bjorken and Gross-Llewellyn Smith (GLS) sum rules, and iv) the static quark potential. We show that the final series of the first three cases are all given in terms of the anomalous dimension of the gluon field, in accordance with conformality, and with all non-conformal properties encoded in the running coupling. The final expressions for the Bjorken and GLS sum rules directly lead to the generalized Crewther relations, exposing another relevant feature of conformality. The static quark potential shows that PMC scale setting in the Abelian limit is to all orders consistent with QED scale setting. Finally, we demonstrate that the method applies to any renormalization scheme and [...]

The $ρ$-meson longitudinal leading-twist distribution amplitude

In the present paper, we suggest a convenient model for the vector $ρ$-meson longitudinal leading-twist distribution amplitude $ϕ_{2;ρ}^\|$, whose distribution is controlled by a single parameter $B^\|_{2;ρ}$. By choosing proper chiral current in the correlator, we obtain new light-cone sum rules (LCSR) for the $B\toρ$ TFFs $A_1$, $A_2$ and $V$, in which the $δ^1$-order $ϕ_{2;ρ}^\|$ provides dominant contributions. Then we make a detailed discussion on the $ϕ_{2;ρ}^\|$ properties via those $B\toρ$ TFFs. A proper choice of $B^\|_{2;ρ}$ can make all the TFFs agree with the lattice QCD predictions. A prediction of $|V_{\rm ub}|$ has also been presented by using the extrapolated TFFs, which indicates that a larger $B^{\|}_{2;ρ}$ leads to a larger $|V_{\rm ub}|$. To compare with the BABAR data on $|V_{\rm ub}|$, the longitudinal leading-twist DA $ϕ_{2;ρ}^\|$ prefers a doubly-humped behavior.

The Higgs boson inclusive decay channels $H \to b\bar{b}$ and $H \to gg$ up to four-loop level

The principle of maximum conformality (PMC) has been suggested to eliminate the renormalization scheme and renormalization scale uncertainties, which are unavoidable for the conventional scale setting and are usually important errors for theoretical estimations. In this paper, by applying PMC scale setting, we analyze two important inclusive Standard Model Higgs decay channels, $H\rightarrow b\bar{b}$ and $H\rightarrow gg$, up to four-loop and three-loop levels accordingly. After PMC scale setting, it is found that the conventional scale uncertainty for these two channels can be eliminated to a high degree. There is small residual initial scale dependence for the Higgs decay widths due to unknown higher-order $\{β_i\}$-terms. Up to four-loop level, we obtain $Γ(H\rightarrow b\bar{b}) = 2.389\pm0.073 \pm0.041$ MeV and up to three-loop level, we obtain $Γ(H\rightarrow gg) = 0.373\pm0.030$ MeV, where the first error is caused by varying $M_H=126\pm4$ GeV and the second error for $H\to b\bar{b}$ is caused by varying the $\overline{\rm MS}$-running mass $m_b(m_b)=4.18\pm0.03$ GeV. Taking $H\to b\bar{b}$ as an example, we present a comparison of three BLM-based scale setting approaches, e.g. the PMC-I approach based on the PMC-BLM correspondence, the $R_δ$-scheme and the seBLM approach, all of which are designed to provide effective ways to identify non-conformal $\{β_i\}$-series at each perturbative order. At four-loop level, all those approaches lead to good pQCD convergence, they have almost the same pQCD series, and their predictions are almost independent on the initial renormalization scale. In this sense, those approaches are equivalent to each other.

The QCD improved electroweak parameter $ρ$

In the present paper, we make a detailed analysis for the QCD corrections to the electroweak $ρ$ parameter by applying the principle of maximum conformality (PMC). As a comparison, we show that under the conventional scale setting, we have $Δρ|_{\rm N^3LO} = \left(8.257^{+0.045}_{-0.012}\right) \times10^{-3}$ by varying the scale $μ_{r}\in[M_{t}/2$, $2M_{t}]$. By defining a ratio, $ΔR=Δρ/3X_t-1$, which shows the relative importance of the QCD corrections, it is found that its scale error is $\sim \pm9 \%$ at the two-loop level, which changes to $\sim\pm4\%$ at the three-loop level and $\sim \pm 2.5\%$ at the four-loop level, respectively. These facts well explain why the conventional scale uncertainty constitutes an important error for estimating the $ρ$ parameter. On the other hand, by applying the PMC scale setting, the four-loop estimation $Δρ|_{\rm N^3LO}$ shall be almost fixed to $8.228\times10^{-3}$, which indicates that the conventional scale error has been eliminated. We observe the pQCD convergence for the $ρ$ parameter has also been greatly improved due to the elimination of the divergent renormalon terms. As applications of the present QCD improved $ρ$ parameter, we show the shifts of the $W$-boson mass and the effective leptonic weak-mixing angle due to $Δρ$ can be reduced to $δM_{W}|_{\rm N^3LO} =0.7$ MeV and $δ\sin^2θ_{\rm eff}|_{\rm N^3LO}=-0.4\times10^{-5}$.

$J/ψ+χ_{cJ}$ Production at the $B$ Factories under the Principle of Maximum Conformality

Under the conventional scale setting, the renormalization scale uncertainty usually constitutes a systematic error for a fixed-order perturbative QCD estimation. The recently suggested principle of maximum conformality (PMC) provides a principle to eliminate such scale ambiguity in a step-by-step way. Using the PMC, all non-conformal terms in perturbative expansion series are summed into the running coupling, and one obtains a unique, scale-fixed, scheme-independent prediction at any finite order. In the paper, we make a detailed PMC analysis for both the polarized and the unpolarized cross sections for the double charmonium production process, $e^{+} + e^{-} \to J/ ψ(ψ') + χ_{cJ}$ with $(J=0,1,2)$. The running behavior for the coupling constant, governed by the PMC scales, are determined exactly for the specific processes. We compare our predictions with the measurements at the $B$ factories, BABAR and Belle, and the theoretical estimations obtained in the literature. Because the non-conformal terms are different for various polarized and unpolarized cross sections, the PMC scales of these cross sections are different in principle. It is found that all the PMC scales are almost independent of the initial choice of renormalization scale. Thus, the large renormalization scale uncertainty usually adopted in the literature up to $sim40%$ at the NLO level, obtained from the conventional scale setting, for both the polarized and the unpolarized cross sections are greatly suppressed. It is found that the charmonium production is dominated by J=0 channel. After PMC scale setting, we obtain $σ(J/ψ+χ_{c0}) = 12.25^{+3.70}_{-3.13}$ fb and $σ(ψ'+χ_{c0}) =5.23^{+1.56}_{-1.32}$ fb,......

A Systematic All-Orders Method to Eliminate Renormalization-Scale and Scheme Ambiguities in PQCD

We introduce a generalization of the conventional renormalization schemes used in dimensional regularization, which illuminates the renormalization scheme and scale ambiguities of pQCD predictions, exposes the general pattern of nonconformal {β_i}-terms, and reveals a special degeneracy of the terms in the perturbative coefficients. It allows us to systematically determine the argument of the running coupling order by order in pQCD in a form which can be readily automatized. The new method satisfies all of the principles of the renormalization group and eliminates an unnecessary source of systematic error.

Application of the Principle of Maximum Conformality to Top-Pair Production

A major contribution to the uncertainty of finite-order perturbative QCD predictions is the perceived ambiguity in setting the renormalization scale $μ_r$. For example, by using the conventional way of setting $μ_r \in [m_t/2,2m_t]$, one obtains the total $t \bar{t}$ production cross-section $σ_{t \bar{t}}$ with the uncertainty $Δσ_{t \bar{t}}/σ_{t \bar{t}}\sim ({}^{+3%}_{-4%})$ at the Tevatron and LHC even for the present NNLO level. The Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) eliminates the renormalization scale ambiguity in precision tests of Abelian QED and non-Abelian QCD theories. In this paper we apply PMC scale-setting to predict the $t \bar t$ cross-section $σ_{t\bar{t}}$ at the Tevatron and LHC colliders. It is found that $σ_{t\bar{t}}$ remains almost unchanged by varying $μ^{\rm init}_r$ within the region of $[m_t/4,4m_t]$. The convergence of the expansion series is greatly improved. For the $(q\bar{q})$-channel, which is dominant at the Tevatron, its NLO PMC scale is much smaller than the top-quark mass in the small $x$-region, and thus its NLO cross-section is increased by about a factor of two. In the case of the $(gg)$-channel, which is dominant at the LHC, its NLO PMC scale slightly increases with the subprocess collision energy $\sqrt{s}$, but it is still smaller than $m_t$ for $\sqrt{s}\lesssim 1$ TeV, and the resulting NLO cross-section is increased by $\sim 20%$. As a result, a larger $σ_{t\bar{t}}$ is obtained in comparison to the conventional scale-setting method, which agrees well with the present Tevatron and LHC data. More explicitly, by setting $m_t=172.9\pm 1.1$ GeV, we predict $σ_{\rm Tevatron,\;1.96\,TeV} = 7.626^{+0.265}_{-0.257}$ pb, $σ_{\rm LHC,\;7\,TeV} = 171.8^{+5.8}_{-5.6}$ pb and $σ_{\rm LHC,\;14\,TeV} = 941.3^{+28.4}_{-26.5}$ pb. BCVEGPY and GENXICC for the hadronic production of the doubly heavy mesons and baryons

Doubly heavy mesons and baryons provide a good platform for testing pQCD. Two generators BCVEGPY and GENXICC for simulating the hadronic production of the doubly heavy mesons and baryons have been developed in recent years. In this talk, we present their main idea and their recent progresses. The dominant gluon-gluon fusion mechanism programmed in those two generators are written based on the improved helicity amplitude approach, in which the hard scattering amplitude are dealt with directly at the amplitude level and the numerical efficiency are greatly improved by properly decomposing the Feynman diagrams and by fully applying the symmetries among them. Moreover, in comparison to the previous versions, we have updated the programs in order to generate the unweighted meson or baryon events much more effectively within various simulation environments. The generators can be conveniently imported into PYTHIA to do further hadronization and decay simulation.

BEEC: An event generator for simulating the $B_c$ meson production at an $e^+e^-$ collider

The $B_c$ meson is a doubly heavy quark-antiquark bound state and carries flavors explicitly, which provides a fruitful laboratory for testing potential models and understanding the weak decay mechanisms for heavy flavors. In view of the prospects in $B_c$ physics at the hadronic colliders as Tevatron and LHC, $B_c$ physics is attracting more and more attention. It has been shown that a high luminosity $e^+e^-$ collider running around the $Z^0$-peak is also helpful for studying the properties of $B_c$ meson and has its own advantages. For the purpose, we write down an event generator for simulating $B_c$ meson production through $e^+e^-$ annihilation according to relevant publications. We name it as BEEC, in which the color-singlet $S$-wave and $P$-wave $(c\bar{b})$-quarkonium states together with the color-octet $S$-wave $(c\bar{b})$-quarkonium states can be generated. BEEC can also be adopted to generate the similar charmonium and bottomnium states via the semi-exclusive channels $e^{+}+e^{-}\rightarrow |(Q\bar{Q})[n]\rangle +Q +\bar{Q}$ with $Q=b$ and $c$ respectively. To increase the simulation efficiency, we simplify the amplitude as compact as possible by using the improved trace technology. BEEC is a Fortran programme written in a PYTHIA-compatible format and is written in a modularization structure, one may apply it to various situations or experimental environments conveniently by using the GNU C compiler {\bf make}. A method to improve the efficiency of generating unweighted events within PYTHIA environment has been suggested. Moreover, BEEC will generate a standard Les Houches Event data file that contains useful information of the meson and its accompanying partons, which can be conveniently imported into PYTHIA to do further hadronization and decay simulation.

Determination of the pion distribution amplitude

Right now, we have not enough knowledge to determine the hadron distribution amplitudes (DAs) which are universal physical quantities in the high energy processes involving hadron for applying pQCD to exclusive processes. Even for the simplest pion, one can't discriminate from different DA models. Inversely, one expects that processes involving pion can in principle provide strong constraints on the pion DA. For example, the pion-photon transition form factor (TFF) can get accurate information of the pion wave function or DA, due to the single pion in this process. However, the data from Belle and BABAR have a big difference on TFF in high $Q^2$ regions, at present, they are helpless for determining the pion DA. At the present paper, we think it is still possible to determine the pion DA as long as we perform a combined analysis of the most existing data of the processes involving pion such as $π\to μ\barν$, $π^0 \to γγ$, $B\to πl ν$, $D \to πl ν$, and etc. Based on the revised light-cone harmonic oscillator model, a convenient DA model has been suggested, whose parameter $B$ which dominates its longitudinal behavior for $ϕ_π(x,μ^2)$ can be determined in a definite range by those processes. A light-cone sum rule analysis of the semi-leptonic processes $B \to πl ν$ and $D \to πl ν$ leads to a narrow region $B = [0.01,0.14]$, which indicate a slight deviation from the asymptotic DA. Then, one can predict the behavior of the pion-photon TFF in high $Q^2$ regions which can be tested in the future experiments. Following this way it provides the possibility that the pion DA will be determined by the global fit finally.

Exclusive charmonium production from $e^+ e^-$ annihilation round the $Z^0$ peak

We make a comparative and comprehensive study on the charmonium exclusive productions at the $e^+e^-$ collider with the collision energy either round the $Z^0$-boson mass for a super $Z$ factory or equals to 10.6 GeV for the $B$ factories as Belle and BABAR. We study the total cross sections for the charmonium production via the exclusive processes $e^+e^- \to γ^*/Z^0 \to H_{1}+H_{2}$ and $e^+e^- \to γ^*/Z^0 \to H_{1} +γ$, where $H_{1}$ and $H_{2}$ represent the dominant color-singlet $S$-wave and $P$-wave charmonium states respectively. Total cross sections versus the $e^+e^-$ collision energy $\sqrt{s}$, together with their uncertainties, are presented, which clearly show the relative importance of these channels. At the $B$ factory, the production channels via the virtual $γ^*$ propagator are dominant over the channels via the $Z^0$ propagator by about four orders. While, at the super $Z$ factory, due to the $Z^0$-boson resonance effect, the $Z^0$ boson channels shall provide sizable or even dominant contributions in comparison to the channels via the $γ^*$ propagator. Sizable exclusive charmonium events can be produced at the super $Z$ factory with high luminocity up to $10^{36}{\rm cm}^{-2}{\rm s}^{-1}$, especially for the channel of $e^+e^- \to Z^0 \to H_{1} +γ$, e.g. by taking $m_c=1.50\pm0.20$ GeV, we shall have $(5.0^{+0.8}_{-0.6})\times10^4$ $J/ψ$, $(7.5^{+1.1}_{-0.9})\times10^3$ $η_c$, $(6.2^{+3.3}_{-1.9})\times10^3$ $h_{c}$, $(3.1^{+1.7}_{-0.9})\times10^2$ $χ_{c0}$, $(2.2^{+1.0}_{-0.4})\times10^3$ $χ_{c1}$, and $(7.7^{+4.1}_{-2.4})\times10^2$ $χ_{c2}$ events by one operation year. Thus, in addition to the $B$ factories as BABAR and Belle, such a super $Z$ factory shall provide another useful platform for studying the heavy quarkonium properties and for testing QCD theories.

Finding a way to determine the pion distribution amplitude from the experimental data

It is believed that one can extract more accurate information of the pion distribution amplitude from the pion-photon transition form factor (TFF) due to the single pion in this process. However the BABAR and Belle data of the pion-photon TFF have a big difference for $Q^2\in [15,40]$ GeV$^2$, and at present, the pion DA can not be definitely determined from the pion-photon TFF. it is crucial to find the right pion DA behavior and to determine which data is more reliable. In this letter, we perform a combined analysis of the most existing data of the processes involving pion by using a general model for the pion wavefunction/DA. Such a DA model can mimic all the existed pion DA behaviors, whose parameters can be fixed by the constraints from the processes $π^0\toγγ$, $π\toμν$, $B\toπl ν$, and etc. Especially, we examine the $B \rightarrow π$ transition form factors that provides another constraint to the parameter $B$ in our DA model, which results in $B \in[0.00,0.29]$. This inversely shows that the predicted curve for the pion-photon TFF is between the BABAR and Belle data in the region $Q^2\in$ $[15,40]$ GeV$^2$. It will be tested by coming more accurate data at large $Q^2$ region, and the definite behavior of pion DA can be concluded finally.

Further Study on the Doubly Heavy Baryon Production around the $Z^0$ Peak at A High Luminosity $e^+ e^-$ Collider

The doubly heavy baryon $Ξ_{QQ^{\prime}}$ ($Q^{(\prime)}$ = $b$ or $c$) is different from the ordinary baryons. The production of the doubly heavy baryon can provide valuable insight on how the colored $(QQ^{\prime})$-diquark can be transformed into the color-singlet baryon. As a sequential work of Ref.[2], we make a further study on the doubly heavy baryon production through the $e^+ e^-$ annihilation channel, $e^{+} + e^{-}\rightarrowγ/Z^0 \rightarrow Ξ_{QQ^{\prime}} +\bar{Q} +\bar{Q^{\prime}}$, within the nonrelativistic QCD framework. In addition to the total cross sections, we present the baryon transverse momentum and the rapidity distributions for all these channels. Typical baryon transverse momentum and rapidity cuts are adopted to show the properties of these distributions clearly. At a $e^+ e^-$ collider that runs around the $Z^0$-boson mass with a high luminosity up to ${\cal L} = 10^{34-36}{\rm cm}^{-2} {\rm s}^{-1}$, in comparison to the Belle and BABAR experiments, it is found that sizable $Ξ_{cc}$, $Ξ_{bc}$ and $Ξ_{bb}$ events can be produced even after performing baryon's transverse momentum and rapidity cuts due to $Z^0$-boson resonance effect.

Heavy Quarkonium Production through the Semi-Exclusive $e^+ e^-$ Annihilation Channels around the $Z^0$ Peak

Within the framework of the non-relativistic QCD, we present a detailed discussion on the heavy quarkonium production at the leading order in $α_s$ at a $e^+ e^-$ collider with the collision energy around the $Z^0$ peak. Quarkonia are produced through the semi-exclusive channels $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow |H_{Q\bar{Q}}\rangle +X$ with $X=Q\bar{Q}$ or $gg$, where $Q$ indicates a heavy quark (respectively $b$ or $c$). It is noted that in addition to the color-singlet 1S-level quarkonium states, the 2S and 1P color-singlet states and the color-octet $|(Q\bar{Q})[1^3S_1^{({\bf 8})}]g\rangle$ state also provide sizable contributions. The heavy quarkonium transverse momentum and rapidity distributions for the $e^+ e^-$ collision energy $E_{cm}=m_Z$ are presented. For both charmonium and bottomonium production via the $Z^0$ propagator, there is approximate "spin degeneracy" between the spin-triplet and spin-singlet quarkonium states. Uncertainties for the total cross sections are estimated by taking $m_c=1.50\pm0.15$ GeV and $m_b=4.90\pm0.15$ GeV. Around $E_{cm}=m_{Z}$, due to the $Z^0$-boson resonance effect, total cross sections for the channels via the $Z^0$-propagator become much larger than the channels via the virtual photon propagator. We conclude that, in addition to the $B$ factories as BaBar and Belle and the hadronic colliders as Tevatron and LHC, such a super $Z$-factory will present an excellent platform for studying the heavy quarkonium properties.

Next-to-leading order QCD corrections for the charmonium production via the channel $e^+ e^- \to H(|c\bar{c}\rangle) + γ$ round the $Z^0$ peak

In our previous work [2], it has been found that sizable charmonium events via the channel $e^+e^- \to γ^*/Z^0 \to H(|c\bar{c}\rangle) +γ$ can be produced at the suggested super $Z$ factory, where $H(|c\bar{c}\rangle)$ represents the dominant color-singlet $S$-wave and $P$-wave charmonium states $J/ψ$, $η_c$, $h_c$ and $χ_{cJ}$ ($J=0, 1, 2$), respectively. As an important step forward, in the present paper, we present a next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD analysis within the framework of nonrelativistic QCD. In different to the case of $B$ factory in which the single charmonium production is dominated by the channel via a virtual photon, at the super $Z$ factory, its cross-section is dominated by the channel via a $Z^0$ boson. Estimations up to NLO level are done at both the $B$ factory and the super $Z$ factory experimental conditions. We observe that the NLO distributions have the same shapes as those of LO distributions, but their differences are sizable. This indicates that a NLO calculation is necessary and important to achieve a more accurate estimation. Due to $Z^0$ boson resonance effect, at the super $Z$ factory with a high luminosity up to $10^{36}{\rm cm}^{-2}{\rm s}^{-1}$, when summing all the color-singlet states' contribution together, one may observe about $8.0\times10^{4}$ charmonium events via the channel $e^+e^-\to Z^0 \to H(|c\bar{c}\rangle)+γ$ in one operation year. Then, such super $Z$ factory could provide another useful platform to study the charmonium properties, even for the higher charmonium states.

Reanalysis of the BFKL Pomeron at the next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy

We apply the principle of maximum conformality (PMC) to the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov (BFKL) Pomeron intercept at the next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) accuracy. The PMC eliminates the conventional renormalization scale ambiguity by absorbing the non-conformal $\{β_i\}$-terms into the running coupling, and a more accurate pQCD estimation can be obtained. After PMC scale setting, the QCD perturbative convergence can be greatly improved due to the elimination of renormalon terms in pQCD series, and the BFKL Pomeron intercept has a weak dependence on the virtuality of the reggeized gluon. For example, by taking the Fried-Yennie gauge, we obtain $ω_{\rm MOM}^{\rm PMC}(Q^{2},0)\in [0.149,0.176]$ for $Q^2\in[1,100]\;{\rm GeV}^2$. This is a good property to apply to the high-energy phenomenology. Further more, to compare with the data, it is found that the physical ${\rm MOM}$-scheme is more reliable than the $\overline{\rm MS}$-scheme. The ${\rm MOM}$-scheme is gauge dependent, which can also be greatly suppressed after PMC scale setting. We discuss the MOM-scheme gauge dependence for the Pomeron intercept by adopting three gauges, i.e. the Landau gauge, the Feynman gauge and the Fried-Yennie gauge, and we obtain $ω_{\rm MOM}^{\rm PMC}(Q^{2}=15\;{\rm GeV}^2,0) = 0.166^{+0.010}_{-0.017}$; i.e. about $10\%$ gauge dependence is observed. We apply the BFKL Pomeron intercept to the photon-photon collision process, and compare the theoretical predictions with the data from the OPAL and L3 experiments.

Revisiting the $B^{(*)}_s$-Meson Production at the Hadronic Colliders

The production of heavy-flavored hadron at the hadronic colliders provides a challenging opportunity to test the validity of pQCD predictions. There are two mechanisms for the $B^{(*)}_s$ hadroproduction, i.e. the gluon-gluon fusion mechanism via the subprocess $g+g\rightarrow B^{(*)}_s+b+\bar{s}$ and the extrinsic heavy quark mechanism via the subprocesses $g+\bar{b}\to B^{(*)}_s +\bar{s}$ and $g+s\to B^{(*)}_s +b$, both of which shall have sizable contributions in proper kinematic region. Different from the fixed-flavor-number scheme (FFNS) previously adopted in the literature, we study the $B^{(*)}_s$ hadroproduction under the general-mass variable-flavor-number scheme (GM-VFNS), in which we can consistently deal with the double counting problem from the above two mechanisms. Properties for the $B^{(*)}_s$ hadroproduction are discussed. To be useful reference, a comparative study of FFNS and GM-VFNS is presented. Both of which can provide reasonable estimations for the $B^{(*)}_s$ hadroproduction. At the Tevatron, the difference between these two schemes is small, however such difference is obvious at the LHC. The forthcoming more precise data on LHC shall provide a good chance to check which scheme is more appropriate to deal with the $B^{(*)}_s$-meson production and to further study the heavy quark components in hadrons.

The Renormalization Scale-Setting Problem in QCD

A key problem in making precise perturbative QCD predictions is to set the proper renormalization scale of the running coupling. The conventional scale-setting procedure assigns an arbitrary range and an arbitrary systematic error to fixed-order pQCD predictions. In fact, this {\it ad hoc} procedure gives results which depend on the choice of the renormalization scheme, and it is in conflict with the standard scale-setting procedure used in QED. Predictions for physical results should be independent of the choice of scheme or other theoretical conventions. We review current ideas and points of view on how to deal with the renormalization scale ambiguity and show how to obtain renormalization scheme- and scale- independent estimates. We begin by introducing the renormalization group (RG) equation and an extended version, which expresses the invariance of physical observables under both the renormalization scheme and scale-parameter transformations. The RG equation provides a convenient way for estimating the scheme- and scale- dependence of a physical process. We then discuss self-consistency requirements of the RG equations, such as reflexivity, symmetry, and transitivity, which must be satisfied by a scale-setting method. Four typical scale setting methods suggested in the literature, {\it i.e.,} the Fastest Apparent Convergence (FAC) criterion, the Principle of Minimum Sensitivity (PMS), the Brodsky-Lepage-Mackenzie method (BLM), and the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC), are introduced. Basic properties and their applications are discussed. We pay particular attention to the PMC, which satisfies all of the requirements of RG invariance...... [full Abstract is in the paper].

Twist-3 light-cone distribution amplitudes of the scalar mesons within the QCD sum rules and their application to the $B \to S$ transition form factors

We investigate the twist-3 light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs) of the scalar mesons $a_0$, $K^{\ast}_0$ and $f_0$ within the QCD sum rules. The QCD sum rules are improved by a consistent treatment of the sizable $s$-quark mass effects within the framework of the background field approach. Adopting the valence quark component $(\bar{q}_1 q_2)$ as the dominant structure of the scalar mesons, our estimation for their masses are close to the measured $a_0(1450)$, $K^{\ast}_0(1430)$ and $f_0(1710)$. From the sum rules, we obtain the first two non-zero moments of the twist-3 LCDAs $ϕ^{s,σ}_{a_0}$: $\langle ξ_{s,a_0}^{2(4)} \rangle=0.369 \;(0.245)$ and $\langle ξ_{σ,a_0}^{2(4)} \rangle=0.203 \;(0.093)$; those of the twist-3 LCDAs $ϕ_{K^*_0}^{s,σ}$: $\langle ξ_{s,K^{\ast}_0}^{1(2)} \rangle =0.004\;(0.355)$ and $\langle ξ_{σ,K^{\ast}_0}^{1(2)} \rangle =0.018\;(0.207)$; and those of the twist-3 LCDAs $ϕ_{f_0}^{s,σ}$: $\langle ξ_{s,f_0}^{2(4)} \rangle=0.335 \;(0.212)$ and $\langle ξ_{σ,f_0}^{2(4)} \rangle=0.196 \; (0.088)$, respectively. As an application of those twist-3 LCDAs, we study the $B \to S$ transition form factors by introducing proper chiral currents into the correlator, which is constructed such that the twist-3 LCDAs give dominant contribution and the twist-2 LCDAs make negligible contribution. Our results of the $B \to S$ transition form factors at the large recoil region $q^2 \simeq 0$ are consistent with those obtained in the literature, which inversely shows the present twist-3 LCDAs are acceptable.

$B_c$ Meson Production around the $Z^0$ Peak at a High Luminosity $e^+ e^-$ Collider

Considering the possibility to build an $e^+ e^-$ collider at the energies around the $Z^0$-boson resonance with a planned luminosity so high as ${\cal L}\propto 10^{34}\sim 10^{36}cm^{-2}s^{-1}$ (super $Z$-factory), we make a detailed discussion on the $(c\bar{b})$-quarkonium production through $e^{+}+e^{-}\rightarrow (c\bar{b})[n]+b+\bar{c}$ within the framework of non-relativistic QCD. To simplify the hard-scattering amplitude as much as possible and to derive analytic expressions for the purpose of future events simulation, we adopt the "improved trace technology" to do our calculation, which deals with the hard scattering amplitude directly at the amplitude level other than the conventional way at the squared-amplitude level. Total cross-section uncertainties caused by the quark masses are predicted by taking $m_c=1.50\pm0.30$ GeV and $m_b=4.90\pm0.40$ GeV. If all higher $(c\bar{b})$-quarkonium states decay to the ground state $B_c$ ($|(c\bar{b})_{\bf 1}[^1S_0]>$) with 100% efficiency, we obtain $σ_{e^{+}+e^{-}\rightarrow B_{c}+b+\bar{c}} =5.190^{+6.222}_{-2.419}$ pb, which shows that about $10^5 \sim 10^7$ $B_c$ events per operation year can be accumulated in the super $Z$-factory. If taking the collider energy runs slightly off the $Z^0$-peak, i.e. $\sqrt{S}=(1.00\pm0.05) m_Z$, the total cross-section shall be lowered by about one-order from its peak value. Such a super $Z$-factory shall provide another useful platform to study the properties of $B_c$ meson, or even the properties of its excited $P$-wave states, in addition to its production at the hadronic colliders Tevatron and LHC.

Application of the Principle of Maximum Conformality to the Top-Quark Forward-Backward Asymmetry at the Tevatron

The renormalization scale uncertainty can be eliminated by the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) in a systematic scheme-independent way. Applying the PMC for the $t\bar{t}$-pair hadroproduction at the NNLO level, we have found that the total cross-sections $σ_{t\bar{t}}$ at both the Tevatron and LHC remain almost unchanged when taking very disparate initial scales $μ^{\rm init}_R$ equal to $m_t$, $10\,m_t$, $20\,m_t$ and $\sqrt{s}$, which is consistent with renormalization group invariance. As an important new application, we apply PMC scale-setting to study the top-quark forward-backward asymmetry. We observe that the more convergent perturbative series after PMC scale-setting leads to a more accurate top-quark forward-backward asymmetry. The resulting PMC prediction on the asymmetry is also free from the initial renormalization scale-dependence. Because the NLO PMC scale has a dip behavior for the $(q\bar{q})$-channel at small subprocess collision energies, the importance of this channel to the asymmetry is increased. We observe that the asymmetries $A_{FB}^{t\bar{t}}$ and $A_{FB}^{p\bar{p}}$ at the Tevatron will be increased by 42% in comparison to the previous estimates obtained by using conventional scale-setting; i.e. we obtain $A_{FB}^{t\bar{t},{\rm PMC}} \simeq 12.5%$ and $A_{FB}^{p\bar{p},{\rm PMC}} \simeq 8.28%$. Moreover, we obtain $A_{FB}^{t\bar{t},{\rm PMC}}(M_{t\bar{t}}>450 \;{\rm GeV}) \simeq 35.0%$. These predictions have a $1σ$-deviation from the present CDF and D0 measurements; the large discrepancies of the top-quark forward-backward asymmetry between the Standard Model estimate and the CDF and D0 data are thus greatly reduced.

Doubly Heavy Baryon Production at A High Luminosity $e^+ e^-$ Collider

Within the framework of nonrelativistic QCD, we make a detailed discussion on the doubly heavy baryon production through the $e^+ e^-$ annihilation channel, $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowγ/Z^0 \rightarrow Ξ_{QQ^{\prime}} +\bar{Q} +\bar{Q^{\prime}}$, at a high luminosity $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. Here $Q^{(\prime)}$ stands for the heavy $b$ or $c$ quark. In addition to the channel through the usually considered diquark state $(QQ^{\prime})[^3S_1]_{\bf\bar{3}}$, contributions from the channels through other same important diquark states such as $(QQ^{\prime})[^1S_0]_{\bf 6}$ have also been discussed. Uncertainties for the total cross sections are predicted by taking $m_c=1.80\pm0.30$ GeV and $m_b=5.10\pm0.40$ GeV. At a super $Z$-factory running around the $Z^0$ mass and with a high luminosity up to ${\cal L} \propto 10^{34}\sim 10^{36}{\rm cm}^{-2} {\rm s}^{-1}$, we estimate that about $1.1\times10^{5 \sim 7}$ $Ξ_{cc}$ events, $2.6\times10^{5 \sim 7}$ $Ξ_{bc}$ events and $1.2\times 10^{4 \sim 6}$ $Ξ_{bb}$ events can be generated in one operation year. Such a $Z$-factory, thus, will provide a good platform for studying the doubly heavy baryons in comparable to the CERN large hadronic collider.

Eliminating the Renormalization Scale Ambiguity for Top-Pair Production Using the Principle of Maximum Conformality

It is conventional to choose a typical momentum transfer of the process as the renormalization scale and take an arbitrary range to estimate the uncertainty in the QCD prediction. However, predictions using this procedure depend on the renormalization scheme, leave a non-convergent renormalon perturbative series, and moreover, one obtains incorrect results when applied to QED processes. In contrast, if one fixes the renormalization scale using the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC), all non-conformal $\{β_i\}$-terms in the perturbative expansion series are summed into the running coupling, and one obtains a unique, scale-fixed, scheme-independent prediction at any finite order. The PMC scale $μ^{\rm PMC}_R$ and the resulting finite-order PMC prediction are both to high accuracy independent of the choice of initial renormalization scale $μ^{\rm init}_R$, consistent with renormalization group invariance. As an application, we apply the PMC procedure to obtain NNLO predictions for the $t\bar{t}$-pair production at the Tevatron and LHC colliders. The PMC prediction for the total cross-section $σ_{t\bar{t}}$ agrees well with the present Tevatron and LHC data. We also verify that the initial scale-independence of the PMC prediction is satisfied to high accuracy at the NNLO level: the total cross-section remains almost unchanged even when taking very disparate initial scales $μ^{\rm init}_R$ equal to $m_t$, $20\,m_t$, $\sqrt{s}$. Moreover, after PMC scale setting, we obtain $A_{FB}^{t\bar{t}} \simeq 12.5%$, $A_{FB}^{p\bar{p}} \simeq 8.28%$ and $A_{FB}^{t\bar{t}}(M_{t\bar{t}}>450 \;{\rm GeV}) \simeq 35.0%$. These predictions have a $1\,σ$-deviation from the present CDF and D0 measurements; the large discrepancy of the top quark forward-backward asymmetry between the Standard Model estimate and the data are thus greatly reduced.

Excited Heavy Quarkonium Production at the LHC through $W$-Boson Decays

Sizable amount of heavy-quarkonium events can be produced through $W$-boson decays at the LHC. Such channels will provide a suitable platform to study the heavy-quarkonium properties. The "improved trace technology", which disposes the amplitude ${\cal M}$ at the amplitude-level, is helpful for deriving compact analytical results for complex processes. As an important new application, in addition to the production of the lower-level Fock states $|(Q\bar{Q'})[1S]>$ and $|(Q\bar{Q'})[1P]>$, we make a further study on the production of higher-excited $|(Q\bar{Q'})>$-quarkonium Fock states $|(Q\bar{Q'})[2S]>$, $|(Q\bar{Q'})[3S]>$ and $|(Q\bar{Q'})[2P]>$. Here $|(Q\bar{Q'})>$ stands for the $|(c\bar{c})>$-charmonium, $|(c\bar{b})>$-quarkonium and $|(b\bar{b})>$-bottomonium respectively. We show that sizable amount of events for those higher-excited states can also be produced at the LHC. Therefore, we need to take them into consideration for a sound estimation.

We present an improved version of GENXICC, which is a generator for hadronic production of the doubly heavy baryons $Ξ_{cc}$, $Ξ_{bc}$ and $Ξ_{bb}$ and has been raised by C.H. Chang, J.X. Wang and X.G. Wu [Comput. Phys. Commun. 177 (2007) 467; Comput. Phys. Commun. 181 (2010) 1144]. In comparison with the previous GENXICC versions, we update the program in order to generate the unweighted baryon events more effectively under various simulation environments, whose distributions are now generated according to the probability proportional to the integrand. One Les Houches Event (LHE) common block has been added to produce a standard LHE data file that contains useful information of the doubly heavy baryon and its accompanying partons. Such LHE data can be conveniently imported into PYTHIA to do further hadronization and decay simulation, especially, the color-flow problem can be solved with PYTHIA8.0.

Heavy Quarkonium Production at LHC through $W$ Boson Decays

The production of the heavy $(c\bar{c})$-quarkonium, $(c\bar{b})$-quarkonium and $(b\bar{b})$-quarkonium states ($(Q\bar{Q'})$-quarkonium for short), via the $W^+$ semi-inclusive decays, has been systematically studied within the framework of the non-relativistic QCD. In addition to the two color-singlet $S$-wave states, we also discuss the production of the four color-singlet $P$-wave states $|(Q\bar{Q'})(^1P_1)_{\bf 1}>$ and $(Q\bar{Q'})(^3P_J)_{\bf 1}>$ (with $J=(1,2,3)$) together with the two color-octet components $|(Q\bar{Q'})(^1S_0)_{\bf 8}>$ and $|(Q\bar{Q'})(^3S_1)_{\bf 8}>$. Improved trace technology is adopted to derive the simplified analytic expressions at the amplitude level, which shall be useful for dealing with the following cascade decay channels. At the LHC with the luminosity ${\cal L}\propto 10^{34}cm^{-2}s^{-1}$ and the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{S}=14$ TeV, sizable heavy-quarkonium events can be produced through the $W^+$ boson decays, i.e. $2.57\times10^6$ $η_c$, $2.65\times10^6$ $J/Ψ$ and $2.40\times10^6$ $P$-wave charmonium events per year can be obtained; and $1.01\times10^5$ $B_c$, $9.11\times10^4$ $B^*_c$ and $3.16\times10^4$ $P$-wave $(c\bar{b})$-quarkonium events per year can be obtained. Main theoretical uncertainties have also been discussed. By adding the uncertainties caused by the quark masses in quadrature, we obtain $Γ_{W^+\to (c\bar{c})+c\bar{s}} =524.8^{+396.3}_{-258.4}$ KeV, $Γ_{W^+\to (c\bar{b})+b\bar{s}} =13.5^{+4.73}_{-3.29}$ KeV, $Γ_{W^+\to (c\bar{b})+c\bar{c}}= 1.74^{+1.98}_{-0.73}$ KeV and $Γ_{W^+\to (b\bar{b})+c\bar{b}}= 38.6^{+13.4}_{-9.69}$ eV.

Information on the Pion Distribution Amplitude from the Pion-Photon Transition Form Factor with the Belle and BaBar Data

The pion-photon transition form factor (TFF) provides strong constraints on the pion distribution amplitude (DA). We perform an analysis of all existing data (CELLO, CLEO, BaBar, Belle) on the pion-photon TFF by means of light-cone pQCD approach in which we include the next-to-leading order correction to the valence-quark contribution and estimate the non-valence-quark contribution by a phenomenological model based on the TFF's limiting behavior at both $Q^2\to 0$ and $Q^2\to\infty$. At present, the pion DA is not definitely determined, it is helpful to have a pion DA model that can mimic all the suggested behaviors, especially to agree with the constraints from the pion-photon TFF in whole measured region within a consistent way. For the purpose, we adopt the conventional model for pion wavefunction/DA that has been constructed in our previous paper \cite{hw1}, whose broadness is controlled by a parameter $B$. We fix the DA parameters by using the CELLO, CLEO, BABAR and Belle data within the smaller $Q^2$ region ($Q^2 \leq 15$ GeV$^2$), where all the data are consistent with each other. And then the pion-photon TFF is extrapolated into larger $Q^2$ region. We observe that the BABAR favors $B=0.60$ which has the behavior close to the Chernyak-Zhitnitsky DA, whereas the recent Belle favors $B=0.00$ which is close to the asymptotic DA. We need more accurate data at large $Q^2$ region to determine the precise value of $B$, and the definite behavior of pion DA can be concluded finally by the consistent data in the coming future.

Revisiting the Twist-3 Distribution Amplitudes of $K$ Meson within the QCD Background Field Approach

In the present paper, we investigate the kaon twist-3 distribution amplitudes (DAs) $ϕ_{p,σ}^K$ within the QCD background field approach. The $SU_f(3)$-breaking effects are studied in detail under a systematical way, especially the sum rules for the moments of $ϕ_{p,σ}^K$ are obtained by keeping all the mass terms in the $s$-quark propagator consistently. After adding all the uncertainties in quadrature, the first two Gegenbauler moments of $ϕ_{p,σ}^K$ are $a^1_{K,p}(1 {\rm GeV}) = -0.376^{+0.103}_{-0.148}$, $a^2_{K,p}(1 {\rm GeV}) = 0.701^{+0.481}_{-0.491}$, $a^1_{K,σ}(1 {\rm GeV}) = -0.160^{+0.051}_{-0.074}$ and $a^2_{K,σ}(1 {\rm GeV}) = 0.369^{+0.163}_{-0.149}$, respectively. Their normalization parameters $μ_K^p |_{1\rm GeV} = 1.188^{+0.039}_{-0.043}$ GeV and $μ_K^σ|_{1\rm GeV} = 1.021^{+0.036}_{-0.055}$ GeV. A detailed discussion on the properties of $ϕ^K_{p,σ}$ moments shows that the higher-order $s$-quark mass terms can indeed provide sizable contributions. Furthermore, based on the newly obtained moments, a model for the kaon twist-3 wavefunction $Ψ_{p,σ}^K(x,\mathbf{k}_\perp)$ with a better end-point behavior is constructed, which shall be useful for perturbative QCD calculations. As a byproduct, we make a discussion on the properties of the pion twist-3 DAs.

Self-Consistency Requirements of the Renormalization Group for Setting the Renormalization Scale

In conventional treatments, predictions from fixed-order perturbative QCD calculations cannot be fixed with certainty due to ambiguities in the choice of the renormalization scale as well as the renormalization scheme. In this paper we present a general discussion of the constraints of the renormalization group (RG) invariance on the choice of the renormalization scale. We adopt the RG based equations, which incorporate the scheme parameters, for a general exposition of RG invariance, since they simultaneously express the invariance of physical observables under both the variation of the renormalization scale and the renormalization scheme parameters. We then discuss the self-consistency requirements of the RG, such as reflexivity, symmetry, and transitivity, which must be satisfied by the scale-setting method. The Principle of Minimal Sensitivity (PMS) requires the slope of the approximant of an observable to vanish at the renormalization point. This criterion provides a scheme-independent estimation, but it violates the symmetry and transitivity properties of the RG and does not reproduce the Gell-Mann-Low scale for QED observables. The Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) satisfies all of the deductions of the RG invariance - reflectivity, symmetry, and transitivity. Using the PMC, all non-conformal $\{β^{\cal R}_i\}$-terms (${\cal R}$ stands for an arbitrary renormalization scheme) in the perturbative expansion series are summed into the running coupling, and one obtains a unique, scale-fixed, scheme-independent prediction at any finite order. The PMC scales and the resulting finite-order PMC predictions are both to high accuracy independent of the choice of initial renormalization scale, consistent with RG invariance. A Trick to Improve the Efficiency of Generating Unweighted $B_c$ Events from BCVEGPY

In the present paper, we provide an addendum to improve the efficiency of generating unweighted events within PYTHIA environment for the generator BCVEGPY2.1 [C.H. Chang, J.X. Wang and X.G. Wu, Comput.Phys.Commun.{\bf 174}, 241(2006)]. This trick is helpful for experimental simulation. Moreover, the BCVEGPY output has also been improved, i.e. one Les Houches Event common block has been added so as to generate a standard Les Houches Event file that contains the information of the generated $B_c$ meson and the accompanying partons, which can be more conveniently used for further simulation.

Constraints on the Light Pseudoscalar Meson Distribution Amplitudes from Their Meson-Photon Transition Form Factors

The meson-photon transition form factors $γγ^*\to P$ ($P$ stands for $π$, $η$ and $η'$) provide strong constraints on the distribution amplitudes of the pseudoscalar mesons. In this paper, these transition form factors are calculated under the light-cone perturbative QCD approach, in which both the valence and non-valence quarks' contributions have been taken into consideration. To be consistent, an unified wavefunction model is adopted to analyze these form factors. It is shown that with proper charm component $f^{c}_{η'}\sim -30$ MeV and a moderate DA with $B\sim 0.30$, the experimental data on $Q^{2}F_{ηγ}(Q^2)$ and $Q^{2}F_{η'γ}(Q^2)$ in whole $Q^2$ region can be explained simultaneously. Further more, a detailed discussion on the form factors' uncertainties caused by the constituent quark masses $m_q$ and $m_s$, the parameter $B$, the mixing angle $ϕ$ and $f_{η'}^c$ are presented. It is found that by adjusting these parameters within their reasonable regions, one can improve the form factor to a certain degree but can not solve the puzzle for $Q^{2}F_{πγ}(Q^2)$, especially to explain the behavior of $π-γ$ form factor within the whole $Q^2$ region consistently. We hope further experimental data on these form factors in the large $Q^2$ region can clarify the present situation.

Hadronic Production of the Doubly Heavy Baryon $Ξ_{bc}$ at LHC

We investigate the hadronic production of the doubly heavy baryon $Ξ_{bc}$ at the large hadron collider (LHC), where contributions from the four $(bc)$-diquark states $(bc)_{\bf\bar{3},6}[^1S_0]$ and $(bc)_{\bf\bar{3},6}[^3S_1]$ have been taken into consideration. Numerical results show that under the condition of $p_T>4$ GeV and $|y|<1.5$, sizable $Ξ_{bc}$ events about $ 1.7\times 10^7$ and $3.5\times10^9$ per year can be produced for the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{S}=7$ TeV and $\sqrt{S}=14$ TeV respectively. For experimental usage, the total and the interested differential cross-sections are estimated under some typical $p_T$- and $y$- cuts for the LHC detectors CMS, ATLAS and LHCb. Main uncertainties are discussed and a comparative study on the hadronic production of $Ξ_{cc}$, $Ξ_{bc}$ and $Ξ_{bb}$ at LHC are also presented.

New results on Pionic Twist-3 Distribution Amplitudes within the QCD Sum Rules

We present an improved calculation on the pionic twist-3 distribution amplitudes $ϕ^π_{p}$ and $ϕ^π_σ$, which are studied within the QCD sum rules. By adding all the uncertainties in quadrature, it is found that $<ξ^2_p>=0.248^{+0.076}_{-0.052}$, $<ξ^4_p>=0.262^{+0.080}_{-0.055}$, $<ξ^2_σ>=0.102^{+0.035}_{-0.025}$ and $<ξ^4_σ>=0.094^{+0.028}_{-0.020}$. Furthermore, with the help of these moments, we construct a model for the twist-3 wave functions $ψ^π_{p,σ}(x,\mathbf{k}_\bot)$, which have better end-point behavior and are helpful for perturbative QCD approach. The obtained twist-3 distribution amplitudes are adopted to calculate the $B\toπ$ transition form factor $f^+_{Bπ}$ within the QCD light-cone sum rules up to next-to-leading order. By suitable choice of the parameters, we obtain a consistent $f^+_{Bπ}$ with those obtained in the literature.

Phenomenologies of Higgs messenger models

In this paper, we investigate the phenomenologies of models where the Higgs sector plays the role of messengers in gauge mediation. The minimal Higgs sector and its extension are considered respectively. We find that there exist viable models when an appropriate parity is imposed. Phenomenological features in these kind of models include three sum rules for scalar masses, light gluino as well as one-loop $μ$ and two-loop $Bμ$ terms.

Production of the $P$-Wave Excited $B_c$-States through the $Z^0$ Boson Decays

In Ref.[7],we have dealt with the production of the two color-singlet $S$-wave $(c\bar{b})$-quarkonium states $B_c(|(c\bar{b})_{\bf 1}[^1S_0]>)$ and $B^*_c(|(c\bar{b})_{\bf 1}[^3S_1]>)$ through the $Z^0$ boson decays. As an important sequential work, we make a further discussion on the production of the more complicated $P$-wave excited $(c\bar{b})$-quarkonium states, i.e. $|(c\bar{b})_{\bf 1}[^1P_1]>$ and $|(c\bar{b})_{\bf 1}[^3P_J]>$ (with $J=(1,2,3)$). More over, we also calculate the channel with the two color-octet quarkonium states $|(c\bar{b})_{\bf 8}[^1S_0]g>$ and $|(c\bar{b})_{\bf 8}[^3S_1]g>$, whose contributions to the decay width maybe at the same order of magnitude as that of the color-singlet $P$-wave states according to the naive nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics scaling rules. The $P$-wave states shall provide sizable contributions to the $B_c$ production, whose decay width is about 20% of the total decay width $Γ_{Z^0\to B_c}$. After summing up all the mentioned $(c\bar{b})$-quarkonium states' contributions, we obtain $Γ_{Z^0\to B_c} =235.9^{+352.8}_{-122.0}$ KeV, where the errors are caused by the main uncertainty sources.

The cross section of the process $e^{+}+e^{-}\to J/ψ+η_c$ within the QCD light-cone sum rules

We calculate the cross section of the exclusive process $e^{+} +e^{-}\to J/ψ+η_c$ at the leading order approximation within the QCD light-cone sum rules (LCSR) approach. It is found that the form factor $F_{VP}(V=J/ψ,P=η_c)$ depends mainly on the behavior of the twist-2 distribution amplitude of the $η_c$-meson at the scale of this process. Thus in order to obtain a reliable estimation of the cross section, it is important to have a realistic distribution amplitude of the $η_c$ meson, and to deal with the evolution of the distribution amplitude to the effective energy scale of the process. Our results show that one can obtain a compatible prediction with the Belle and BarBar experimental data.

Under the `New Trace Amplitude Approach', we calculate the production of the spin-singlet $B_c$ and the spin-triplet $B^*_c$ mesons through the $Z^0$ boson decays, where uncertainties for the production are also discussed. Our results show $Γ_{(^1S_0)}= 81.4^{+102.1}_{-40.5}$ KeV and $Γ_{(^3S_1)}=116.4^{+163.9}_{-62.8}$ KeV, where the errors are caused by varying $m_b$ and $m_c$ within their reasonable regions.

A Comparative Study of $f_B$ within QCD Sum Rules with Two Typical Correlators up to Next-to-Leading Order

The B-decay constant $f_B$ is an important component for studying $B$-meson decays, which can be studied through QCD sum rules. We make a detailed discussion on $f_B$ from two sum rules, i.e. sum rules I and II, which are derived from the conventional correlator and the correlator with chiral currents respectively. It is found that these two sum rules are consistent with each other. However, the sum rules II has less uncertainty sources than that of sum rules I, and then it can be more accurate if we know the dimension-four gluon condensate well. It is found that $f_B$ decreases with the increment of $m_b$, and to compare with the Belle experimental data on $f_B$, both sum rules prefer smaller pole $b$-quark mass, $m_b=4.68\pm0.07$ GeV. By varying all the input parameters in their reasonable region and adding all the uncertainties together in quadrature, we obtain $f_B=172^{+23}_{-25}$ MeV for sum rules I and $f_B=214_{-34}^{+26}$ MeV for sum rules II.

An Implication on the Pion Distribution Amplitude from the Pion-Photon Transition Form Factor with the New BABAR Data

The new BABAR data on the pion-photon transition form factor arouses people's new interests on the determination of pion distribution amplitude. To explain the data, we take both the leading valence quark state's and the non-valence quark states' contributions into consideration, where the valence quark part up to next-to-leading order is presented and the non-valence quark part is estimated by a phenomenological model based on its limiting behavior at both $Q^2\to 0$ and $Q^2\to\infty$. Our results show that to be consistent with the new BABAR data at large $Q^2$ region, a broader other than the asymptotic-like pion distribution amplitude should be adopted. The broadness of the pion distribution amplitude is controlled by a parameter $B$. It has been found that the new BABAR data at low and high energy regions can be explained simultaneously by setting $B$ to be around 0.60, in which the pion distribution amplitude is closed to the Chernyak-Zhitnitsky form.

Production of a Heavy Quarkonium with a Photon or via ISR at $Z$ Peak in $e^+e^-$ Collider

Considering the possibility to build an $e^+e^-$ collider at the energies around $Z$-boson resonance with a luminosity so high as ${\cal L} \propto 10^{34}cm^{-2}s^{-1}$ (even higher) and the abilities of a modern synthesis detector, we systematically calculate the exclusive two body processes: $e^+e^-$ annihilates into a heavy quarkonium and a photon (initiate state radiation i.e. ISR is involved), at the energies around the $Z$-boson resonance. Since the couplings of $Z$-boson to quarks contain axial vector as well as vector, so here the produced heavy quarkonium may stand for a charmonium such as ${J/ψ,η_c,h_c,χ_{cJ}}\cdots$ and a bottomonium such as ${Υ,η_b,h_b,χ_{bJ}}\cdots$ respectively. If we call such a collider with so high luminosity and running around the $Z$-boson resonance as a $Z$-factory, then our results obtained here indicate that experimental studies at a $Z$-factory about the various heavy quarkona (their ground and excited states) via the two-body processes, especially, the production of the bound states with quantum number $J^{PC}=1^{--}$ via ISR, have outstanding advantages.

GENXICC2.0: An Upgraded Version of the Generator for Hadronic Production of Double Heavy Baryons $Ξ_{cc}$, $Ξ_{bc}$ and $Ξ_{bb}$

An upgraded (second) version of the package GENXICC ({\bf A Generator for Hadronic Production of the Double Heavy Baryons $Ξ_{cc}$, $Ξ_{bc}$ and $Ξ_{bb}$ by C.H. Chang, J.X. Wang and X.G. Wu,} [its first version: in Comput. Phys. Commun. {\bf 177} (2007) 467-478]) is presented. Users, with this version being implemented in PYTHIA and a GNU C compiler, may simulate full events of the production in various experimental environments conveniently. In comparison with the previous version, in order to implement it in PYTHIA properly, a subprogram for the fragmentation of the produced double heavy diquark to the relevant baryon is complemented and the interphase of the generator to PYTHIA is changed accordingly. In the subprogram, with explanation, certain necessary assumptions (approximations) are made so as to conserve the momenta and the QCD `color' flow for the fragmentation.

Revisiting the Real Graviton Effects at CERN LHC within the Quantum Gravity Theory with Large Extra Dimensions

CERN LHC provides a good experimental platform to perturbatively probe the fundamental gravity scale up to several TeV, with the precise value depending on the number of extra dimensions. The leading experimental signal of graviton at LHC is from the process $pp\to jet+{E\slash}_T$, where ${E\slash}_T$ stands for the transverse missing energy. A detailed discussion on the hadronic production of real graviton through hard subprocesses: $q\bar{q}\to G+g$, $g+q\to G+q$ and $g+g\to G+g$ have been studied within the quantum gravity theory with large extra dimensions. The main theoretical uncertainties together with the dominant standard model background to these processes, e.g. $q\bar{q}\to Z^0+g$ and $g+q\to Z^0+q$ with $Z^0$ further decaying into neutrinos, have also been discussed. It is found that only in certain jet energy region and with certain number of extra dimensions can the quantum gravity signal be distinguished from the background, which inversely lead to the effective scale $M_D$ to be probed up to $(8.8\pm 0.9)$ TeV for two extra dimensions, and $(5.9\pm 0.5)$ TeV for four extra dimensions with sufficient integrated luminosity, e.g. $100fb^{-1}$, at CERN LHC.

Determination of the $η$ and $η'$ Mixing Angle from the Pseudoscalar Transition Form Factors

The possible range of $η-η'$ mixing angle is determined from the transition form factors $F_{ηγ}(Q^2)$ and $F_{η' γ}(Q^2)$ with the help of the present experimental data. For such purpose, the quark-flavor mixing scheme is adopted and the pseudoscalar transition form factors are calculated under the light-cone pQCD framework, where the transverse momentum corrections and the contributions beyond the leading Fock state have been carefully taken into consideration. We construct a phenomenological expression to estimate the contributions to the form factors beyond the leading Fock state based on their asymptotic behavior at $Q^2\to 0$ and $Q^2\to\infty$. By taking the quark-flavor mixing scheme, our results lead to $ϕ= 38.0^{\circ}\pm 1.0^{\circ}\pm 2.0^{\circ}$, where the first error coming from experimental uncertainty and the second error coming from the uncertainties of the wavefunction parameters. The possible intrinsic charm component in $η$ and $η'$ is discussed and our present analysis also disfavors a large portion of intrinsic charm component in $η$ and $η'$, e.g. $|f^c_{η'}|\le 50 {\rm MeV}$.

Hadronic Production of the Doubly Charmed Baryon $Ξ_{cc}$ with Intrinsic Charm

The effects of the intrinsic charm on the hadronic production of $Ξ_{cc}$ are studied. By taking reasonable intrinsic charm component into account, the change of the theoretical prediction on the production of $Ξ_{cc}$ for LHC and Tevatron is small, but in contrast it may enhance significantly for SELEX. The reason is that the collision energy at LHC and Tevatron is so large that the gluon-gluon fusion sub-process, which is irrelevant to intrinsic charm, becomes dominant. But the situation for SELEX is quite different. Our numerical results for SELEX show that by considering all the contributions from various sub-processes, the predicted cross-section may be enhanced by a factor so big as $10^2$ due to a modulating intrinsic charm being taken into account. Therefore, the hadronic production of $Ξ_{cc}$ at SELEX may be sensitive enough in observing the intrinsic charm inside the incident hadrons.

Hadronic production of the $P$-wave excited $B_c$-states ($B_{cJ,L=1}^*$)

Adopting the complete $α_s^4$ approach of the perturbative QCD (pQCD) and updated parton distribution functions, we have estimated the hadronic production of $P$-wave excited $B_c$-states ($B_{cJ,L=1}^*$). In the estimate, special care on the relation of the production amplitude to the derivative of wave function at origin of the potential model is payed. For experimental references, main uncertainties are discussed, and the total cross sections and the distributions of the production with reasonable cuts at the energies of Tevatron and LHC are computed and presented. The results show that $P$-wave production may contribute to the $B_c$-meson production indirectly by a factor about 0.5 of the direct production, and with such a big cross section, it is worth further to study the possibility to observe the $P$-wave production itself experimentally.

Uncertainties in Estimating Hadronic Production of the Meson B_c and Comparisons between TEVATRON and LHC

The uncertainties in estimating the hadronic production of the $B_c$ meson are studied under the framework of the complete $α_s^4$ approach of the perturbative QCD and the gluon-gluon fusion mechanism. Quantitative comparisons on the production at TEVATRON and LHC are made. Considering the detectors at TEVATRON and LHC, we have also estimated the production with proper kinematic cuts. Based on the results, we conclude that the experimental studies of the $B_c$ meson at the two colliders will be complimentary and stimulative. To achieve a compact programme, we have written the amplitude of the subprocess with the particle helicity technique and made it as symmetric as possible, by decomposing the gluon self couplings and then applying the symmetries. The meson $B_c$ annihilation to leptons and inclusive light hadrons

The annihilation of the $B_c$ meson to leptons and inclusive light hadrons is analyzed in the framework of nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization. We find that the decay mode, which escapes from the helicity suppression, contributes a sizable fraction width. According to the analysis, the branching ratio due to the contribution from the color-singlet component of the meson $B_c$ can be of order (10^{-2}). We also estimate the contributions from the color-octet components. With the velocity scaling rule of NRQCD, we find that the color-octet contributions are sizable too, especially, in certain phase space of the annihilation they are greater than (or comparative to) the color-singlet component. A few observables relevant to the spectrum of charged lepton are suggested, that may be used as measurements on the color-octet and color-singlet components in the future $B_c$ experiments. A typical long distance contribution in the annihilation is estimated too.
