A CNN-LSTM-based hybrid deep learning approach to detect sentiment polarities on Monkeypox tweets

People have recently begun communicating their thoughts and viewpoints through user-generated multimedia material on social networking websites. This information can be images, text, videos, or audio. Recent years have seen a rise in the frequency of occurrence of this pattern. Twitter is one of the most extensively utilized social media sites, and it is also one of the finest locations to get a sense of how people feel about events that are linked to the Monkeypox sickness. This is because tweets on Twitter are shortened and often updated, both of which contribute to the platform's character. The fundamental objective of this study is to get a deeper comprehension of the diverse range of reactions people have in response to the presence of this condition. This study focuses on finding out what individuals think about monkeypox illnesses, which presents a hybrid technique based on CNN and LSTM. We have considered all three possible polarities of a user's tweet: positive, negative, and neutral. An architecture built on CNN and LSTM is utilized to determine how accurate the prediction models are. The recommended model's accuracy was 94% on the monkeypox tweet dataset. Other performance metrics such as accuracy, recall, and F1-score were utilized to test our models and results in the most time and resource-effective manner. The findings are then compared to more traditional approaches to machine learning. The findings of this research contribute to an increased awareness of the monkeypox infection in the general population.

Accurate Link Lifetime Computation in Autonomous Airborne UAV Networks

An autonomous airborne network (AN) consists of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which can self-configure to provide seamless, low-cost and secure connectivity. AN is preferred for applications in civilian and military sectors because it can improve the network reliability and fault tolerance, reduce mission completion time through collaboration, and adapt to dynamic mission requirements. However, facilitating seamless communication in such ANs is a challenging task due to their fast node mobility, which results in frequent link disruptions. Many existing AN-specific mobility-aware schemes restrictively assume that UAVs fly in straight lines, to reduce the high uncertainty in the mobility pattern and simplify the calculation of link lifetime (LLT). Here, LLT represents the duration after which the link between a node pair terminates. However, the application of such schemes is severely limited, which makes them unsuitable for practical autonomous ANs. In this report, a mathematical framework is described to accurately compute the \textit{LLT} value for a UAV node pair, where each node flies independently in a randomly selected smooth trajectory. In addition, the impact of random trajectory changes on LLT accuracy is also discussed.

An efficient numerical method based on exponential B-splines for time-fractional Black-Scholes equation governing European options

In this paper a time-fractional Black-Scholes model (TFBSM) is considered to study the price change of the underlying fractal transmission system. We develop and analyze a numerical method to solve the TFBSM governing European options. The numerical method combines the exponential B-spline collocation to discretize in space and a finite difference method to discretize in time. The method is shown to be unconditionally stable using von-Neumann analysis. Also, the method is proved to be convergent of order two in space and $2-μ$ is time, where $μ$ is order of the fractional derivative. We implement the method on various numerical examples in order to illustrate the accuracy of the method, and validation of the theoretical findings. In addition, as an application, the method is used to price several different European options such as the European call option, European put option, and European double barrier knock-out call option.

Patronage and power in rural India: a study based on interaction networks

This work has two intertwined components: first, as part of a research programme it introduces a new methodology for identifying `power-centres' in rural societies of developing countries in general and then applies that in the specific context of contemporary rural India for addressing some debates on the dynamics of power in rural India. We identify the nature of `local' rural institutions based on primary data collected by ourselves (in 2013 and 2014). We took 36 villages in the states of Maharashtra, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh - 12 in each of these states - as the sites for our observation and data collection. We quantify nature of institutions from data on the day-to-day interactions of households in the spheres of economy, society and politics. Our household survey shows that there is substantial variation in power structure across regions. We identified the presence of `local elites' in 22 villages out of 36 surveyed. We conducted a follow-up survey, called `elite survey', to get detailed information about the identified elite households. We observe that landlordism has considerably weakened, land has ceased to be the sole source of power and new power-centres have emerged. Despite these changes, caste, landownership and patron-client relation continue to be three important pillars of rural power structure.

Probing of large interfacial contribution to spin orbit coupling in CoFeB/Ta heterostructure by ultrafast THz emission spectroscopy

Ultrafast THz radiation generation from ferromagnetic/nonmagnetic bilayer heterostructure-based spintronic emitters generally exploits the conversion from spin- to charge-current within the nonmagnetic layer and its interface with the ferromagnetic layer. Various possible sub-contributions to the underlying mechanism of inverse spin Hall effect for the THz emission from such structures, need to be exploited for not only investigating the intricacies at the fundamental level in the material properties themselves but also for improving their performance for broadband and high-power THz emission. Here, we report ultrafast THz emission from CoFeB/Ta bilayer at varying sample temperatures in a large range to unravel the role of intrinsic and extrinsic spin to charge conversion processes. In addition to an enhancement in the THz emission, its temperature dependence shows a THz signal polarity reversal if the CoFeB/Ta sample is annealed at an elevated temperature. We extract the behaviour of the spin Hall resistivity, determine the intrinsic spin Hall conductivity contribution in it and compare those with the standard Fe/Pt system. Our results clearly demonstrate a giant interfacial contribution to the overall spin Hall angle arising from the modified interface in the annealed CoFeB/Ta, where a sign reversal in the corresponding spin Hall angle is manifested from the THz amplitude variation with the temperature.

Empirical LiK excited state potentials: connecting short range and near dissociation expansions

We report on a high-resolution spectroscopic survey of ${}^{6}\textrm{Li}{}^{40}\textrm{K}$ molecules near the $2\textrm{S}+4\textrm{P}$ dissociation threshold and produce a fully empirical representation for the $\textrm{B}^{1}Π$ potential by connecting available short- and long-range data. The purpose is to identify a suitable intermediate state for a coherent Raman transfer to the absolute ground state, and the creation of a molecular gas with dipolar interactions. Starting from weakly bound ultracold Feshbach molecules, the transition frequencies to twenty-six vibrational states are determined. Our data are combined with long-range measurements [Ridinger et al., EPL, 2011, 96, 33001], and near-dissociation expansions for the spin-orbit coupled potentials are fitted to extract the $C_6$ dispersion coefficients. A suitable vibrational level is identified by resolving its Zeeman structure and by comparing the experimentally attained g-factor to our theoretical prediction. Using mass-scaling of the short-range data for the $\textrm{B}^{1}Π$ [Pashov et al., Chem. Phys. Lett., 1998, 292, 615-620] and an updated value for its depth, we model the short- and the long-range data simultaneously and produce a Rydberg-Klein-Rees curve covering the entire range.

K-shell ionization cross sections of Cu, Zn and Ge by 3-5 MeV/U Si-ion bombardment

The K x-ray spectra of different targets (Cu, Zn, and Ge) induced by 3 to 5 MeV/u Si projectile ions have been measured to determine the K-shell ionization cross-section. A significant difference is observed between the measurements and theoretical estimates, where the theoretical ones are about 28-35% of the experimental results. Such difference is reduced to a good extent 51-56% if multiple ionization effects are taken into account. Remaining discrepancy may be attributed to the electron capture contribution.

Network-centric indicators for fragility in global financial indices

Over the last two decades, financial systems have been studied and analysed from the perspective of complex networks, where the nodes and edges in the network represent the various financial components and the strengths of correlations between them. Here, we adopt a similar network-based approach to analyse the daily closing prices of 69 global financial market indices across 65 countries over a period of 2000-2014. We study the correlations among the indices by constructing threshold networks superimposed over minimum spanning trees at different time frames. We investigate the effect of critical events in financial markets (crashes and bubbles) on the interactions among the indices by performing both static and dynamic analyses of the correlations. We compare and contrast the structures of these networks during periods of crashes and bubbles, with respect to the normal periods in the market. In addition, we study the temporal evolution of traditional market indicators, various global network measures and the recently developed edge-based curvature measures. We show that network-centric measures can be extremely useful in monitoring the fragility in the global financial market indices.

A perspective on correlation-based financial networks and entropy measures

In this brief review, we critically examine the recent work done on correlation-based networks in financial systems. The structure of empirical correlation matrices constructed from the financial market data changes as the individual stock prices fluctuate with time, showing interesting evolutionary patterns, especially during critical events such as market crashes, bubbles, etc. We show that the study of correlation-based networks and their evolution with time is useful for extracting important information of the underlying market dynamics. We, also, present our perspective on the use of recently developed entropy measures such as structural entropy and eigen-entropy for continuous monitoring of correlation-based networks.

Group ring based public key cryptosystems

In this paper, we propose two cryptosystems based on group rings and existing cryptosystem. First one is Elliptic ElGamal type group ring public key cryptosystem whose security is greater than security of cryptosystems based on elliptic curves discrete logarithmic problem (ECDLP). Second is ElGamal type group ring public key cryptosystem, which is analogous to ElGamal public key cryptosystem but has comparatively greater security. Examples are also given for both the proposed cryptosystems.

Magnetic field-dependent resistance crossover and logarithmic to non-saturating magnetoresistance in topological insulator Bi$_2$Te$_3$

We report a metal-insulator like transition in single crystalline 3D topological insulator Bi2Te3 at a temperature of 230K in presence of an external magnetic field applied normal to the surface. This transition becomes more prominent at larger magnetic field strength with the residual resistance value increasing linearly with the magnetic field. At low temperature, the magnetic field dependence of the magnetoresistance shows a transition from logarithmic to linear behavior and the onset magnetic field value for this transition decreases with increasing temperature. The logarithmic magnetoresistance indicates the weak anti-localization of the surface Dirac electrons while the high temperature behavior originates from the bulk carriers due to intrinsic impurities. At even higher temperatures beyond~230 K, a completely classical Lorentz model type quadratic behavior of the magnetoresistance is observed. We also show that the experimentally observed anomalies at ~230K in the magneto-transport properties do not originate from any stacking fault in Bi2Te3.

Photo-Seebeck effect in single-crystalline bismuth telluride topological insulator

Bismuth telluride is a low energy bulk band-gap topological system with conducting surface states. Besides its very good thermoelectric properties, it also makes a very good candidate for broadband photodetectors. Here, we report temperature-dependent photo-Seebeck effect in a bulk single crystalline bismuth telluride. On light illumination, an electrically biased sample shows distinguishable contributions in the measured current due to both the Seebeck effect and the normal photo-generated carriers within a narrow layer of the sample. Detailed experiments are performed to elucidate the distinction between the Seebeck contribution and the photogenerated current. The temperature-dependence of the photocurrent without Seebeck contribution shows a sign reversal from negative to positive at a specific temperature depending on the wavelength of photoexcitation light.

Spectrum of Landau Levels in GaAs Quantum Wells

We have studied the optical and electrical spectra from an n i p LED as a function of magnetic field. This sample incorporated three GaAs quantum wells in the intrinsic region. This device had excess n type doping and as a result. The quantum wells were populated by a two dimension Landau electron gas. The broad B0 field emission band evolved into a series of discrete features in the presence of a magnetic field. These were identified as interband transitions between the different values of l. Landau levels associated with the sub-bands, with the selection rule. An energy splitting between the two polarised components was observed for each Landau level transition. This was found to be equal to the sum of the conduction and valence band spin splittings. We used the know value of electron g factor to determine the valence band spin splittings. Our experimental values were compared to the numerically calculated values and were found to be in reasonable agreement.

Broken translational and rotational symmetries in LiMn1.5Ni0.5O4 spinel

In condensed matter physics broken symmetries and emergence of quasi-particles are intimately linked to each other. Whenever a symmetry is broken, it leaves its fingerprints, and that may be observed indirectly via its influence on the other quasi-particles. Here, we report the strong signature of broken rotational symmetry induced due to long range-ordering of spins in Mn - sublattice of LiMn1.5Ni0.5O4 below Tc ~ 113 K reflected with the marked changes in the lattice vibrations using Raman scattering. In particular, the majority of the observed first-order phonon modes show a sharp shift in frequency in the vicinity of long range magnetic-ordering temperature. Phonons exist in a crystalline system because of broken translational symmetry, therefore any renormalization in the phonon-spectrum could be a good gauge for broken translational symmetry. Anomalous evolution of the few modes associated with stretching of Mn/NiO6 octahedra in the intermediate temperature range (~ 60-260 K) marked the broken translational symmetry attributed to the charge ordering. Interestingly same modes also show strong coupling with magnetic degrees of freedom, suggesting that charge-ordering and magnetic transition may be linked to each other.

Singlet Pathway to the Ground State of Ultracold Polar Molecules

Starting from weakly bound Feshbach molecules, we demonstrate a two-photon pathway to the dipolar ground state of bi-alkali molecules that involves only singlet-to-singlet optical transitions. This pathway eliminates the search for a suitable intermediate state with sufficient singlet-triplet mixing and the exploration of its hyperfine structure, as is typical for pathways starting from triplet dominated Feshbach molecules. By selecting a Feshbach state with a stretched singlet hyperfine component and controlling the polarization of the excitation laser, we assure coupling to only a single hyperfine component of the $\textrm{A}^{1}Σ^{+}$ excited potential, even if the hyperfine structure is not resolved. Similarly, we address a stretched hyperfine component of the $\textrm{X}^{1}Σ^{+}$ rovibrational ground state, and therefore an ideal three level system is established. We demonstrate this pathway with ${}^{6}\textrm{Li}{}^{40}\textrm{K}$ molecules. By exploring deeply bound states of the $\textrm{A}^{1}Σ^{+}$ potential, we are able to obtain large and balanced Rabi frequencies for both transitions. This method can be applied to other molecular species.

Enhancement of Impedance by Chromium Substitution and Correlation with DC Resistivity in Cobalt Ferrite

Chromium substituted cobalt ferrite with grain size less than the single domain (approx. 70 nm) has been prepared by the sol-gel method. XRD analysis reveals that the samples crystallize to cubic symmetry with spacegroup number 227. Two transition temperatures (TD (approx. 450 K) and TM (approx. 600 K) have been observed from the impedance verses temperature measurement. TD increases with the increase in frequency due to dipole response to the frequency. TM is comparable with the para-ferrimagnetic transition temperature of cobalt ferrite, which is independent of frequency. This result is well supported by the temperature dependent DC conductivity measurement. The modified Debye relaxation could be explained the impedance spectra of CoFe2-xCrxO4. The grain and grain boundary effect on impedance spectroscopy has been observed from Cole-Cole analysis. The ac conductivity follows Arrhenius behavior at different frequencies. All the samples exhibit the negative temperature coefficient of resistance behavior which reveals the semiconducting behavior of the material. The Mott VRH model could explain the DC electrical conductivity. Both ac impedance and DC resistivity are well co-related each other to explain the electron transport properties in Cr substituted cobalt ferrite. The electrical transport properties could be explained by the electron hopping between different metal ions via oxygen in the material.

Importance of strain reduction in improvement of optical transmission and conductance in Si4+ doped ZnO: a probable new moisture resistant Transparent Conductive Oxide

Si doped ZnO has been reported to be a better conductor than pure ZnO. It is reported that carrier density increases and hence conductivity increases. However, the effect on optical transmission is yet not clear until our recent report [1]. Zn1-xSixO for x= 0, 0.013, 0.020 and 0.027 have been synthesized using sol-gel method (a citric acid-glycerol route) followed by solid state sintering. We found that there is a decrease in defect states due to Si doping. The correlation of strain to the decrement in vacancy sites is discussed in this report. In modern electronics and solar cell fabrication, transparent conductive oxides (TCOs) are important components which conduct electrically without absorbing visible light. Known TCOs are extremely costly and are composed of non-abundant elements. Search for new ecofriendly, cheap and sustainable TCOs has been a recent research of attraction. Keeping in mind that most solar cells are exposed to natural conditions, the humidity tolerance becomes a determining factor. We report that sensitivity to moisture decreases drastically while the conductivity and optical transparency increases with doping. The reduction of strain and improvement of transport properties results in increased conductivity of Si doped ZnO pellets, tempting us to envisage this material as a probable alternate TCO.

Latent class analyisis for reliable measure of inflation expectation in the indian public

The main aim of this paper is to inspect the properties of survey based on households inflation expectations, conducted by Reserve Bank of India. It is theorized that the respondents answers are exaggerated by extreme response bias. Latent class analysis has been hailed as a promising technique for studying measurement errors in surveys, because the model produces estimates of the error rates associated with a given question of the questionnaire. I have identified a model with optimum performance and hence categorize the objective as well as reliable classifiers or otherwise.

A Hybrid Approach for Improved Content-based Image Retrieval using Segmentation

The objective of Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) methods is essentially to extract, from large (image) databases, a specified number of images similar in visual and semantic content to a so-called query image. To bridge the semantic gap that exists between the representation of an image by low-level features (namely, colour, shape, texture) and its high-level semantic content as perceived by humans, CBIR systems typically make use of the relevance feedback (RF) mechanism. RF iteratively incorporates user-given inputs regarding the relevance of retrieved images, to improve retrieval efficiency. One approach is to vary the weights of the features dynamically via feature reweighting. In this work, an attempt has been made to improve retrieval accuracy by enhancing a CBIR system based on color features alone, through implicit incorporation of shape information obtained through prior segmentation of the images. Novel schemes for feature reweighting as well as for initialization of the relevant set for improved relevance feedback, have also been proposed for boosting performance of RF- based CBIR. At the same time, new measures for evaluation of retrieval accuracy have been suggested, to overcome the limitations of existing measures in the RF context. Results of extensive experiments have been presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches.

Assessing Consistency of Consumer Confidence Data using Dynamic Latent Class Analysis

In many countries information on expectations collected through consumer confidence surveys are used in macroeconomic policy formulation. Unfortunately, before doing so, the consistency of responses is often not taken into account, leading to biases creeping in and affecting the reliability of the indices hence created. This paper describes how latent class analysis may be used to check the consistency of responses and ensure a parsimonious questionnaire. In particular, we examine how temporal changes may be incorporated into the model. Our methodology is illustrated using three rounds of Consumer Confidence Survey (CCS) conducted by Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Ion-Induced Dipole Interactions and Fragmentation Times : C$α$ -C$β$ Chromophore Bond Dissociation Channel

The fragmentation times corresponding to the loss of the chromophore (C$α$-- C$β$ bond dissociation channel) after photoexcitation at 263 nm have been investigated for several small peptides containing tryptophan or tyrosine. For tryptophan-containing peptides, the aromatic chromophore is lost as an ionic fragment (m/z 130), and the fragmentation time increases with the mass of the neutral fragment. In contrast, for tyrosine-containing peptides the aromatic chromophore is always lost as a neutral fragment (mass = 107 amu) and the fragmentation time is found to be fast (\textless{}20 ns). These different behaviors are explained by the role of the postfragmentation interaction in the complex formed after the C$α$--C$β$ bond cleavage.

Bose-Einstein Condensation in an electro-pneumatically transformed quadrupole-Ioffe magnetic trap

We report a novel approach for preparing a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) of $^{87}$Rb atoms using electro-pneumatically driven transfer of atoms into a Quadrupole-Ioffe magnetic trap (QUIC Trap). More than 5$\times$$10^{8}$ atoms from a Magneto-optical trap are loaded into a spherical quadrupole trap and then these atoms are transferred into an Ioffe trap by moving the Ioffe coil towards the center of the quadrupole coil, thereby, changing the distance between quadrupole trap center and the Ioffe coil. The transfer efficiency is more than 80 \%. This approach is different from a conventional approach of loading the atoms into a QUIC trap wherein the spherical quadrupole trap is transformed into a QUIC trap by changing the currents in the quadrupole and the Ioffe coils. The phase space density is then increased by forced rf evaporative cooling to achieve the Bose-Einstein condensation having more than $10^{5}$ atoms.

EMEEDP: Enhanced Multi-hop Energy Efficient Distributed Protocol for Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Network

In WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) every sensor node sensed the data and transmit it to the CH (Cluster head) or BS (Base Station). Sensors are randomly deployed in unreachable areas, where battery replacement or battery charge is not possible. For this reason, Energy conservation is the important design goal while developing a routing and distributed protocol to increase the lifetime of WSN. In this paper, an enhanced energy efficient distributed protocol for heterogeneous WSN have been reported. EMEEDP is proposed for heterogeneous WSN to increase the lifetime of the network. An efficient algorithm is proposed in the form of flowchart and based on various clustering equation proved that the proposed work accomplishes longer lifetime with improved QOS parameters parallel to MEEP. A WSN implemented and tested using Raspberry Pi devices as a base station, temperature sensors as a node and xively.com as a cloud. Users use data for decision purpose or business purposes from xively.com using internet.

Signatures of superconducting and pseudogap phases in ultrafast transient reflectivity of Ca(Fe0.927Co0.073)2As2

We present femtosecond time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopic studies of a pseudogap (PG) along with the superconducting (SC) gap in an overdoped iron pnictide Ca(Fe0.927Co0.073)2As2. It is seen that the temperature evolution of the photoexcited quasiparticle (QP) relaxation dynamics, coherently excited A1g-symmetric optical phonon and two acoustic phonon dynamics behave anomalously in the vicinity of the superconducting transition temperature Tc. A continuous change in the sign of the experimentally measured transient differential reflectivity Delta_R/R signal at the zero time-delay between the pump and probe pulses at a temperature of ~200 K is inferred as an evidence of the emergence of the PG phase around that temperature. This behavior is independent of the pump photon energy and occurs for crystals without the spin density wave phase transition.

Gap-dependent quasiparticle dynamics and coherent acoustic phonons in parent iron pnictide CaFe2As2 across the spin density wave phase transition

We report ultrafast quasiparticle (QP) dynamics and coherent acoustic phonons in undoped CaFe_2As_2 iron pnictide single crystals exhibiting spin-density wave (SDW) and concurrent structural phase transition at temperature TSDW ~ 165 K using femtosecond time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy. The contributions in transient differential reflectivity arising from exponentially decaying QP relaxation and oscillatory coherent acoustic phonon mode show large variations in the vicinity of T_SDW. From the temperature-dependence of the QP recombination dynamics in the SDW phase, we evaluate a BCS-like temperature dependent charge gap with its zero-temperature value of ~(1.6+/-0.2)k_BT_SDW, whereas, much above T_SDW, an electron-phonon coupling constant of ~0.13 has been estimated from the linear temperature-dependence of the QP relaxation time. The long-wavelength coherent acoustic phonons with typical time-period of ~100 ps have been analyzed in the light of propagating strain pulse model providing important results for the optical constants, sounds velocity and the elastic modulus of the crystal in the whole temperature range of 3 K to 300 K.

Ultrafast photoinduced enhancement of nonlinear optical response in 15-atom gold clusters on indium tin oxide conducting film

We show that the third order optical nonlinearity of 15-atom gold clusters is significantly enhanced when in contact with indium tin oxide (ITO) conducting film. Open and close aperture z-scan experiments together with non-degenerate pump-probe differential transmission experiments were done using 80 fs laser pulses centered at 395 nm and 790 nm on gold clusters encased inside cyclodextrin cavities. We show that two photon absorption coefficient is enhanced by an order of magnitude as compared to that when the clusters are on pristine glass plate. The enhancement for the nonlinear optical refraction coefficient is ~3 times. The photo-induced excited state absorption using pump-probe experiments at pump wavelength of 395 nm and probe at 790 nm also show an enhancement by an order of magnitude. These results attributed to the excited state energy transfer in the coupled gold cluster-ITO system are different from the enhancement seen so far in charge donor-acceptor complexes and nanoparticle-conjugate polymer composites.

Ultrafast quasiparticle dynamics in superconducting iron pnictide CaFe1.89Co0.11As2

Nonequilibrium quasiparticle relaxation dynamics is reported in superconducting CaFe1.89Co0.11As2 single crystal using femtosecond time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy. The carrier dynamics reflects a three-channel decay of laser deposited energy with characteristic time scales varying from few hundreds of femtoseconds to order of few nanoseconds where the amplitudes and time-constants of the individual electronic relaxation components show significant changes in the vicinity of the spin density wave (T_SDW ~ 85 K) and superconducting (T_SC ~ 20 K) phase transition temperatures. The quasiparticles dynamics in the superconducting state reveals a charge gap with reduced gap value of 2$Δ$_0/k_BT_SC ~ 1.8. We have determined the electron-phonon coupling constant $\lemda$ to be ~ 0.14 from the temperature dependent relaxation time in the normal state, a value close to those reported for other types of pnictides. From the peculiar temperature-dependence of the carrier dynamics in the intermediate temperature region between the superconducting and spin density wave phase transitions, we infer a temperature scale where the charge gap associated with the spin ordered phase is maximum and closes on either side while approaching the two phase transition temperatures.

Acoustic and optical phonon dynamics from femtosecond time-resolved optical spectroscopy of superconducting iron pnictide Ca(Fe_0.944Co_0.056)_2As_2

We report temperature evolution of coherently excited acoustic and optical phonon dynamics in superconducting iron pnictide single crystal Ca(Fe_0.944Co_0.056)_2As_2 across the spin density wave transition at T_SDW ~ 85 K and superconducting transition at T_SC ~20 K. Strain pulse propagation model applied to the generation of the acoustic phonons yields the temperature dependence of the optical constants, and longitudinal and transverse sound velocities in the temperature range of 3.1 K to 300 K. The frequency and dephasing times of the phonons show anomalous temperature dependence below T_SC indicating a coupling of these low energy excitations with the Cooper-pair quasiparticles. A maximum in the amplitude of the acoustic modes at T ~ 170 is seen, attributed to spin fluctuations and strong spin-lattice coupling before T_SDW.

Correlation, Network and Multifractal Analysis of Global Financial Indices

We apply RMT, Network and MF-DFA methods to investigate correlation, network and multifractal properties of 20 global financial indices. We compare results before and during the financial crisis of 2008 respectively. We find that the network method gives more useful information about the formation of clusters as compared to results obtained from eigenvectors corresponding to second largest eigenvalue and these sectors are formed on the basis of geographical location of indices. At threshold 0.6, indices corresponding to Americas, Europe and Asia/Pacific disconnect and form different clusters before the crisis but during the crisis, indices corresponding to Americas and Europe are combined together to form a cluster while the Asia/Pacific indices forms another cluster. By further increasing the value of threshold to 0.9, European countries France, Germany and UK constitute the most tightly linked markets. We study multifractal properties of global financial indices and find that financial indices corresponding to Americas and Europe almost lie in the same range of degree of multifractality as compared to other indices. India, South Korea, Hong Kong are found to be near the degree of multifractality of indices corresponding to Americas and Europe. A large variation in the degree of multifractality in Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan and Singapore may be a reason that when we increase the threshold in financial network these countries first start getting disconnected at low threshold from the correlation network of financial indices. We fit Binomial Multifractal Model (BMFM) to these financial markets.

Probing ultrafast carrier dynamics and nonlinear absorption and refraction in core-shell silicon nanowires

We investigate the relaxation dynamics of photogenerated carriers in silicon nanowires consisting of a crystalline core and a surrounding amorphous shell, using femtosecond time-resolved differential reflectivity and transmission spectroscopy at photon energies of 3.15 eV and 1.57 eV. The complex behavior of the differential transmission and reflectivity transients is the mixed contributions from the crystalline core and the amorphous silicon on the nanowire surface and the substrate where competing effects of state filling and photoinduced absorption govern the carrier dynamics. Faster relaxation rates are observed on increasing the photo-generated carrier density. Independent experimental results on crystalline silicon-on-sapphire help us in separating the contributions from the carrier dynamics in crystalline core and the amorphous regions in the nanowire samples. Further, single beam z-scan nonlinear transmission experiments at 1.57 eV in both open and close aperture configurations yield two-photon absorption coefficient \$beta$ (~3 cm/GW) and nonlinear refraction coefficient \$gamma$ (-2.5x10^-4 cm2/GW).

Femtosecond Photoexcited Carrier Dynamics in Reduced Graphene Oxide Suspensions and Films

We report ultrafast response of femtosecond photoexcited carriers in single layer reduced graphene oxide flakes suspended in water as well as few layer thick film deposited on indium tin oxide coated glass plate using pump-probe differential transmission spectroscopy at 790 nm. The carrier relaxation dynamics has three components: ~200 fs, 1 to 2 ps, and ~25 ps, all of them independent of pump fluence. It is seen that the second component (1 to 2 ps) assigned to the lifetime of hot optical phonons is larger for graphene in suspensions whereas other two time constants are the same for both the suspension and the film. The value of third order nonlinear susceptibility estimated from the pump-probe experiments is compared with that obtained from the open aperture Z-scan results for the suspension.

Relaxor ferroelectric behavior and structural aspects of SrNaBi2Nb3O12 ceramics

SrNaBi2Nb3O12 powder was prepared via the conventional solid-state reaction method. X-ray structural studies confirmed the phase to be a three-layered member of the Aurivillius family of oxides. SrNaBi2Nb3O12 (SNBN) ceramics exhibited the typical characteristics of relaxor ferroelectrics, associated with broad and dispersive dielectric maxima. The variation of temperature of dielectric maxima (Tm) with frequency obeyed the Vogel-Fulcher relationship. Relaxor behavior was believed to be arising from the cationic disorder at A-site. Pinched ferroelectric hysteresis loops were observed well above Tm.

Ultrafast Dynamics of Gold Nanorods: Tuning between Photo-Bleaching and Photo-Induced Absorption

We report ultrafast electron dynamics in gold nanorods investigated using 80 fs laser pulses centered at 1.57 eV. Five types of nanorod colloidal suspensions in water having their longitudinal surface plasmon peak (ELSP) on either side of the laser photon energy (EL) have been studied. For ELSP>EL, photo-induced absorption with single decay time constant is observed. On the other hand, for ELSP<EL, photo-bleaching is observed having biexponential decay dynamics; the faster one between 1-3 ps and slower one between 7ps to 22ps both of them increasing almost linearly with the difference |EL-ELSP|. These time constants increase linearly with the pump intensity. Simulations have been carried out to understand the interplay between photo-bleaching and photoinduced absorption.

Terahertz time domain spectroscopy has been used to study low frequency confined acoustic phonons of silver nanoparticles embedded in poly(vinyl alcohol) matrix in the spectral range of 0.1 to 2.5 THz. The real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function show two bands at 0.60 THz and 2.12 THz attributed to the spheroidal and toroidal modes of silver nanoparticles, thus demonstrating the usefulness of terahertz time domain spectroscopy as a complementary technique to Raman spectroscopy in characterizing the nanoparticles.

Femtosecond carrier dynamics and saturable absorption in graphene suspensions

Nonlinear optical properties and carrier relaxation dynamics in graphene, suspended in three different solvents, are investigated using femtosecond (80 fs pulses) Z-scan and degenerate pumpprobe spectroscopy at 790 nm. The results demonstrate saturable absorption property of graphene with a nonlinear absorption coefficient, $beta$, of ~2 to 9x10^-8 cm/W. Two distinct time scales associated with the relaxation of photoexcited carriers, a fast one in the range of 130-330 fs (related to carrier-carrier scattering) followed by a slower one in 3.5-4.9 ps range (associated with carrier-phonon scattering) are observed.

Graphene analogue BCN: femtosecond nonlinear optical susceptibility and hot carrier dynamics

Third-order nonlinear absorption and refraction coefficients of a few-layer boron carbon nitride (BCN) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) suspensions have been measured at 3.2 eV in the femtosecond regime. Optical limiting behavior is exhibited by BCN as compared to saturable absorption in RGO. Nondegenerate time-resolved differential transmissions from BCN and RGO show different relaxation times. These differences in the optical nonlinearity and carrier dynamics are discussed in the light of semiconducting electronic band structure of BCN vis-à-vis the Dirac linear band structure of graphene.

Large-amplitude chirped coherent phonons in tellurium mediated by ultrafast photoexcited carrier diffusion

We report femtosecond time-resolved reflectivity measurements of coherent phonons in tellurium performed over a wide range of temperatures (3K to 296K) and pump laser intensities. A totally symmetric A$_{1}$ coherent phonon at 3.6 THz responsible for the oscillations in the reflectivity data is observed to be strongly positively chirped (i.e, phonon time period decreases at longer pump-probe delay times) with increasing photoexcited carrier density, more so at lower temperatures. We show for the first time that the temperature dependence of the coherent phonon frequency is anomalous (i.e, increasing with increasing temperature) at high photoexcited carrier density due to electron-phonon interaction. At the highest photoexcited carrier density of $\sim$ 1.4 $\times$ 10$^{21}$cm$^{-3}$ and the sample temperature of 3K, the lattice displacement of the coherent phonon mode is estimated to be as high as $\sim$ 0.24 Å. Numerical simulations based on coupled effects of optical absorption and carrier diffusion reveal that the diffusion of carriers dominates the non-oscillatory electronic part of the time-resolved reflectivity. Finally, using the pump-probe experiments at low carrier density of 6 $\times$ 10$^{18}$ cm$^{-3}$, we separate the phonon anharmonicity to obtain the electron-phonon coupling contribution to the phonon frequency and linewidth.

Structural Investigations into Shwachman Bodian Diamond Syndrome SBDS using a Bioinformatics Approach

The functional correlation of missense mutations which cause disease remains a challenge to understanding the basis of genetic diseases. This is particularly true for proteins related to diseases for which there are no available three dimensional structures. One such disease is Shwachman Diamond syndrome SDS OMIM 260400, a multi system disease arising from loss of functional mutations. The Homo sapiens Shwachman Bodian Diamond Syndrome gene hSBDS is responsible for SDS. hSBDS is expressed in all tissues and encodes a protein of 250 amino acids SwissProt accession code Q9Y3A5. Sequence analysis of disease associated alleles has identified more than 20 different mutations in affected individuals. While a number of these mutations have been described as leading to the loss of protein function due to truncation, translation or surface epitope association, the structural basis for these mutations has yet to be determined due to the lack of a three-dimensional structure for SBDS.

Temperature-dependent chirped coherent phonon dynamics in Bi$_{2}$Te$_{3}$ using high intensity femtosecond laser pulses

Degenerate pump-probe reflectivity experiments have been performed on a single crystal of bismuth telluride (Bi$_2$Te$_3$) as a function of sample temperature (3K to 296K) and pump intensity using $\sim$ 50 femtosecond laser pulses with central photon energy of 1.57 eV. The time resolved reflectivity data show two coherently generated totally symmetric A$_{1g}$ modes at 1.85 THz and 3.6 THz at 296K which blue shift to 1.9 THz and 4.02 THz, respectively at 3K. At high photoexcited carrier density of $\sim$ 1.7 $\times$ 10$^{21}$cm$^{-3}$, the phonon mode at 4.02 THz is two orders of magnitude higher positively chirped (i.e the phonon time period decreases with increasing delay time between the pump and the probe pulses) than the lower frequency mode at 1.9 THz. The chirp parameter, $β$ is shown to be inversely varying with temperature. The time evolution of these modes is studied using continuous wavelet transform of the time-resolved reflectivity data.
