Amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of J/ψ→ΛΣˉ0η+c.cJ/ψ\to Λ\barΣ^0η+\mathrm{c.c}

Based on a sample of (10087±44)×106(10087\pm44)\times10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, a partial-wave analysis of J/ψ→ΛΣˉ0η+c.c J/ψ\to Λ\bar{ Σ}^0η+\mathrm{c.c} is performed for the first time. The dominant contributions are found to be excited ΛΛ states with JP=1/2−J^P=1/2^- and JP=1/2+J^P=1/2^+ in the ηΛηΛ mass spectra. The measured masses and widths are M=1668.8±3.1±21.2M=1668.8\pm3.1\pm21.2 MeV/c2c^2 and Γ=52.7±4.2±17.8Γ=52.7\pm4.2\pm17.8 MeV for the Λ(1670)Λ(1670), and M=1881.5±16.5±20.3M=1881.5\pm16.5\pm20.3 MeV/c2c^2 and Γ=82.4±18.2±8.9Γ=82.4\pm18.2\pm8.9 MeV for the Λ(1810)Λ(1810), respectively. The branching fraction is determined to be B(J/ψ→ΛΣˉ0η+c.c) \mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to Λ\bar{ Σ}^0η+\mathrm{c.c}) = (3.44±0.11±0.13)×10−5(3.44 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.13) \times 10^{-5}. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

Cross section measurement of e+e−→π0π0ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{0}π^{0}ψ(3686) from s=\sqrt{s}= 4.008 GeV to 4.951 GeV

Using data samples with a total integrated luminosity of 22.1 fb−122.1~\rm fb^{-1} at center-of-mass energies between 4.008 and 4.951~GeV collected with the BESIII detector, the cross sections of e+e−→π0π0ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{0}π^{0}ψ(3686) process are measured. The obtained cross sections are found to be approximately one-half of those of e+e−→π+π−ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3686), consistent with the isospin symmetry expectation. A coherent fit to the dressed cross sections is performed, with the Y(4230)Y(4230)~parameters fixed at the values measured in e+e−→π+π−ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3686). The significances of the Y(4390)Y(4390) and Y(4660)Y(4660) are both larger than 5σ5σ, and their masses and widths are consistent with the previous measurement in the e+e−→π+π−ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3686) process.

First Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fraction of ηc→γγη_c \to γγ

We apply a tag-and-probe method to precisely measure the absolute branching fraction of the decay ηc→γγη_c \to γγ with the BESIII experiment at BEPCII. Starting with a large initial sample of 2712.4±14.32712.4\pm 14.3 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events, a sample of 0.16 million ηcη_c events are tagged via the golden channel ψ(3686)→π0hcψ(3686)\to π^0 h_c, hc→γηch_c\to γη_c, effectively avoiding interference effects. The absolute branching fraction of ηc→γγη_c \to γγ is measured for the first time to be B(ηc→γγ)=(2.45±0.48stat.±0.09syst.)×10−4\mathcal{B}(η_c \to γγ) = (2.45 \pm 0.48_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.09_{\rm syst.}) \times 10^{-4}. Using the world average value of the total width of the ηcη_c, the partial decay width of ηc→γγη_c \to γγ is calculated to be Γ(ηc→γγ)=(7.48±1.48stat.±0.30syst.) keVΓ(η_c \to γγ) = (7.48 \pm 1.48_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.30_{\rm syst.})~{\rm keV}.

First Observation of D0(+)→Kˉωe+νeD^{0(+)}\to \bar Kωe^+ν_e and Determination of the Branching Fraction of Kˉ1(1270)→Kˉω\bar K_1(1270)\to \bar K ω

Using 20.3~fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector, we report the first observation of the semileptonic decays D0→K−ωe+νeD^0\to K^-ωe^+ν_e and D+→KS0ωe+νeD^+\to K_S^0ωe^+ν_e with significances of 8.0σ8.0σ and 5.8σ5.8σ, respectively, including systematic uncertainties. Their decay branching fractions are measured to be B(D0→K−ωe+νe)=(9.3−1.9+2.1±0.7)×10−5{\cal B}(D^0\to K^-ωe^+ν_e)=(9.3^{+2.1}_{-1.9}\pm 0.7)\times10^{-5} and B(D+→KS0ωe+νe)=(6.6−1.8+2.0±0.6)×10−5{\cal B}(D^+\to K_S^0ωe^+ν_e)=(6.6^{+2.0}_{-1.8}\pm 0.6)\times10^{-5}. Combining with the latest measurements of D0(+)→K−π+π−(0)e+νeD^{0(+)}\to K^-π^+π^{-(0)} e^+ν_e and assuming Kˉ1(1270)\bar{K}_1(1270) to be the sole mediating resonance in all processes, the branching ratios are determined to be Γ(K1(1270)−→K−π+π−)Γ(K1(1270)−→K−ω)=3.4−0.7+0.8±0.3\frac{Γ(K_1(1270)^-\to K^-π^+π^-)}{Γ(K_1(1270)^-\to K^-ω)} = 3.4^{+0.8}_{-0.7} \pm 0.3 and Γ(Kˉ1(1270)0→K−π+π0)Γ(Kˉ1(1270)0→Kˉ0ω)=9.6−2.7+3.0±0.8\frac{Γ(\bar{K}_1(1270)^0\to K^-π^+π^0)}{Γ(\bar{K}_1(1270)^0\to \bar{K}^0ω)} = 9.6^{+3.0}_{-2.7} \pm 0.8. The combined branching fraction is determined to be B(Kˉ1(1270)→Kˉω)=(7.5±1.3±0.5)%\mathcal B(\bar{K}_1(1270)\to \bar{K}ω) = (7.5\pm 1.3 \pm 0.5)\%, which is the most precise measurement from a collider experiment. The first uncertainties are statistical, and the second are systematic.

Measurements of the absolute branching fractions of the Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} hadronic decays

Based on 4.5 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collision data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4599.53 MeV and 4698.82 MeV with the BESIII detector, the absolute branching fractions of twelve Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} hadronic decay modes are measured with a double-tag technique. A global least-square fit is implemented simultaneously among different decay modes at different energy points. This paper gives the most precise results on the branching fractions of different decay modes to date, with precision improved by a factor of 2 to 3. Among them, the branching fraction of Λc+→pK−π+Λ_{c}^{+}\to pK^{-}π^+ is determined to be (6.61±0.11±0.12)%(6.61\pm0.11\pm0.12)\%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition, the e+e−→Λc+Λˉc−e^+e^-\toΛ_c^+\barΛ_c^- Born cross sections and the effective form factors (∣Geff∣|G_{\rm eff}|) at different energy points have been determined with the highest precision to date.

Search for a dark baryon in the Ξ−→π−+invisibleΞ^-\rightarrowπ^-+{\rm invisible} decay

A search for a dark baryon is performed for the first time in the two-body decay Ξ−→π−+invisibleΞ^-\rightarrowπ^-+{\rm invisible} using (10.087±0.044)×109(10.087\pm0.044)\times10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ events collected at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=3.097\,\mbox{GeV}$ with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. No significant signal is observed, and the 90% (95%) confidence level upper limits on the branching fraction B(Ξ−→π−+invisible)B(Ξ^-\rightarrowπ^-+{\rm invisible}) are determined to be 4.2×10−54.2\times10^{-5} (5.2×10−55.2\times10^{-5}), 6.9×10−56.9\times10^{-5} (8.4×10−58.4\times10^{-5}), 6.5×10−46.5\times10^{-4} (7.6×10−47.6\times10^{-4}), 1.1×10−41.1\times10^{-4} (1.3×10−41.3\times10^{-4}) and 4.5×10−54.5\times10^{-5} (5.5×10−55.5\times10^{-5}), under the dark baryon mass hypotheses of 1.07$\,\mbox{GeV}/c^2$, 1.10$\,\mbox{GeV}/c^2$, mΛm_Λ (1.116$\,\mbox{GeV}/c^2$), 1.13$\,\mbox{GeV}/c^2$, and 1.16$\,\mbox{GeV}/c^2$, respectively. The constraints obtained on the Wilson coefficients Cus,sLC_{u s, s}^L and Cus,sRC_{u s, s}^R are more stringent than the previous limits derived from the LHC searches for the colored mediators.

Measurement of branching fractions of Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} decays to Σ+ηΣ^{+} η and Σ+η′Σ^{+} η'

By analyzing e+e−e^+e^- collision data taken at center-of-mass energies s\sqrt{s} between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb−1\rm 4.5~fb^{-1}, we study the hadronic decays Λc+→Σ+ηΛ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow Σ^{+} η and Λc+→Σ+η′Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow Σ^{+} η^{\prime} using the single-tag method. The branching fraction ratio of Λc+→Σ+ηΛ_{c}^+ \rightarrow Σ^+ η relative to Λc+→Σ+π0Λ_{c}^+ \rightarrow Σ^+ π^0 is determined to be 0.305±0.046stat.±0.007syst.0.305 \pm 0.046_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.007_{\rm syst.}, and that of Λc+→Σ+η′Λ_{c}^+ \rightarrow Σ^+ η' relative to Λc+→Σ+ωΛ_{c}^+ \rightarrow Σ^+ ω is 0.336±0.094stat.±0.037syst.0.336 \pm 0.094_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.037_{\rm syst.}. The ratio of B(Λc+→Σ+η′)B(Λc+→Σ+η)\frac{\mathcal{B}\left(Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow Σ^{+} η'\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left(Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow Σ^{+} η\right)} is determined to be 1.73±0.22stat.±0.16syst.1.73 \pm 0.22_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.16_{\rm syst.}. These results enrich our knowledge of charmed baryon decays.

Investigation of the ΔI=1/2ΔI = 1/2 rule and test of CP violation through the measurement of decay asymmetry parameters in Ξ−Ξ^- decays

Using (10087±44)×106(10087\pm44)\times 10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, numerous Ξ−Ξ^- and ΛΛ decay asymmetry parameters are simultaneously determined from the process J/ψ→Ξ−Ξˉ+→Λ(pπ−)π−Λˉ(nˉπ0)π+J/ψ\to Ξ^- \barΞ^+ \to Λ(pπ^-) π^- \barΛ(\bar{n} π^0) π^+ and its charge-conjugate channel. The precisions of α0α_0 for Λ→nπ0Λ\to nπ^0 and αˉ0\barα_0 for Λˉ→nˉπ0\barΛ \to \bar{n}π^0 compared to world averages are improved by factors of 4 and 1.7, respectively. The ratio of decay asymmetry parameters of Λ→nπ0Λ\to nπ^0 to that of Λ→pπ−Λ\to pπ^-, ⟨α0⟩/⟨αΛ−⟩\langle α_0 \rangle/ \langle α_{Λ-} \rangle , is determined to be 0.873±0.012−0.010+0.011 0.873 \pm 0.012^{+0.011}_{-0.010}, where the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The ratio is smaller than unity more than 5σ5σ, which signifies the existence of the ΔI=3/2ΔI = 3/2 transition in ΛΛ for the first time. Beside, we test for CP violation in Ξ−→Λπ−Ξ^- \to Λπ^- and in Λ→nπ0Λ\to n π^{0} with the best precision to date.

Search for hidden-charm tetraquark with strangeness in e+e−→K+Ds∗−D∗0+c.c.e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow K^+ D_{s}^{*-} D^{*0}+c.c.

We report a search for a heavier partner of the recently observed Zcs(3985)−Z_{cs}(3985)^{-} state, denoted as Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -}, in the process e+e−→K+Ds∗−D∗0+c.c.e^{+} e^{-}\rightarrow K^{+}D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0}+c.c., based on e+e−e^+e^- collision data collected at the center-of-mass energies of s=4.661\sqrt{s}=4.661, 4.682 and 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector. The Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -} is of interest as it is expected to be a candidate for a hidden-charm and open-strange tetraquark. A partial-reconstruction technique is used to isolate K+K^+ recoil-mass spectra, which are probed for a potential contribution from Zcs′−→Ds∗−D∗0Z_{cs}^{\prime -}\to D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0} (c.c.c.c.). We find an excess of Zcs′−→Ds∗−D∗0Z_{cs}^{\prime -}\rightarrow D_{s}^{*-}D^{*0} (c.c.c.c.) candidates with a significance of 2.1σ2.1σ, after considering systematic uncertainties, at a mass of (4123.5±0.7stat.±4.7syst.) MeV/c2(4123.5\pm0.7_\mathrm{stat.}\pm4.7_\mathrm{syst.})\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2}. As the data set is limited in size, the upper limits are evaluated at the 90\% confidence level on the product of the Born cross sections (σBornσ^{\mathrm{Born}}) and the branching fraction (B\mathcal{B}) of Zcs′−→Ds∗−D∗0Z_{cs}^{\prime-}\rightarrow D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0}, under different assumptions of the Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -} mass from 4.120 to 4.140 MeV and of the width from 10 to 50 MeV at the three center-of-mass energies. The upper limits of σBorn⋅Bσ^{\rm Born}\cdot\mathcal{B} are found to be at the level of O(1)\mathcal{O}(1) pb at each energy. Larger data samples are needed to confirm the Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -} state and clarify its nature in the coming years.

The branching fractions of the dominant intermediate processes Ds+→K+ρ0,ρ0→π+π−D_{s}^{+} \to K^+ρ^0, ρ^0 \to π^+π^- and Ds+→K∗(892)0π+,K∗(892)0→K+π−D_{s}^{+} \to K^*(892)^0π^+, K^*(892)^0 \to K^+π^- are determined to be (1.96±0.19stat.±0.23syst.)×10−3(1.96\pm0.19_{\rm stat.}\pm0.23_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3} and (1.85±0.12stat.±0.13syst.)×10−3(1.85\pm0.12_{\rm stat.}\pm0.13_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3}, respectively. Cross section measurements of the processes e+e−→ωπ0e^+e^- \rightarrow ωπ^{0} and ωηωη at center-of-mass energies between 3.773 and 4.701 GeV

The Born cross sections of the processes e+e−→ωπ0e^+e^- \rightarrow ωπ^{0} and e+e−→ωηe^+e^- \rightarrow ωη are measured at center-of-mass energies between 3.773 and 4.701 GeV using a total integrated luminosity of 22.7 fb−1^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. A simple s−ns^{-n} dependence for the continuum process can describe the measured Born cross sections. No significant contributions from the ψ(4160)ψ(4160), Y(4230)Y(4230), Y(4360)Y(4360), ψ(4415)ψ(4415), Y(4660)Y(4660) resonances are found, which indicates relative small branching fractions for these resonances into the ωπ0ωπ^{0} and ωηωη final states.

First Observation of the Semileptonic Decay Λc+→pK−e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow pK^- e^+ν_e

Using 4.5 fb−14.5~\mathrm{fb}^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data samples collected at the center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.600~GeV to 4.699~GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, a first study of the semileptonic decays Λc+→pK−e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow pK^-e^+ν_e, Λc+→Λ(1520)e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1520) e^+ν_e and Λc+→Λ(1405)e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1405) e^+ν_e is performed. The Λc+→pK−e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow pK^-e^+ν_e decay is observed with a significance of 8.2σ8.2σ and the branching fraction is measured to be B(Λc+→pK−e+νe)=(0.88±0.17stat.±0.07syst.)×10−3\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^- e^+ν_e)=(0.88\pm0.17_{\rm stat.}\pm0.07_{\rm syst.})\times 10^{-3}. We also report evidence of Λc+→Λ(1520)e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1520)e^+ν_e and Λc+→Λ(1405)e+νeΛ_c^+\rightarrow Λ(1405)e^+ν_e with significances of 3.3σ3.3σ and 3.2σ3.2σ, respectively, and measure B(Λc+→Λ(1520)e+νe)=(1.02±0.52stat.±0.11syst.)×10−3\mathcal B(Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λ(1520)e^+ν_e)=(1.02\pm0.52_{\rm stat.}\pm0.11_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-3} and B(Λc+→Λ(1405)[→pK−]e+νe)=(0.42±0.19stat.±0.04syst.)×10−3\mathcal B(Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λ(1405)[\rightarrow pK^-]e^+ν_e)=(0.42\pm0.19_{\rm stat.}\pm0.04_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-3}. Combining these with the inclusive semileptonic Λc+Λ_c^+ branching fraction measured by BESIII, the relative fraction is determined to be [B(Λc+→pK−e+νe)/B(Λc+→Xe+νe)]=(2.1±0.4stat.±0.2syst.)%[\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow pK^-e^+ν_e)/\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\rightarrow X e^+ν_e)]=(2.1\pm0.4_{\rm stat.}\pm0.2_{\rm syst.})\%, which provides a clear confirmation that semileptonic Λc+Λ_c^+ decays are not saturated by the Λℓ+νℓΛ\ell^+ν_{\ell} final state.

Measurement of e+e−→K+K−π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} cross section and observation of a resonant structure

Based on e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collision data collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies from 2.000 to 3.080 GeV, a partial-wave analysis is performed for the process e+e−→K+K−π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0}. The Born cross section of the process e+e−→K+K−π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} and its subprocesses e+e−→ϕπ0e^{+}e^{-} \to ϕπ^{0}, K∗(892)KK^{*}(892)K and K2∗(1430)KK^{*}_{2}(1430)K are measured. The results for e+e−→K+K−π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} and ϕπ0ϕπ^{0} are consistent with the BaBar measurements and with improved precision. By analyzing the cross section, of the subprocesses e+e−→e^{+}e^{-} \to K∗(892)KK^{*}(892)K and K2∗(1430)KK^{*}_{2}(1430)K, a structure with mass MRM_R = (2208 ±\pm 19 ±\pm 24) MeV/c2c^{2} and width ΓRΓ_R = (168 ±\pm 24 ±\pm 39) MeV is observed with a combined statistical significance of 7.6σσ. The measured resonance parameters suggest it can be identified as the ϕ(2170)ϕ(2170), thus the results provide valuable input to understand the internal nature of this state.

Measurement of ΛΛ baryon polarization in e+e−→ΛΛˉe^+e^-\rightarrowΛ\barΛ at s=3.773\sqrt{s} = 3.773 GeV

Using a data sample of ψ(3770)ψ(3770) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 fb−1^{-1}, we report a measurement of ΛΛ spin polarization in e+e−→ΛΛˉe^+e^-\rightarrowΛ\barΛ at s=3.773\sqrt{s} = 3.773 GeV. The significance of polarization is found to be 2σσ including the systematic uncertainty, which implies a zero phase between the transition amplitudes of the ΛΛˉΛ\barΛ helicity states. This phase can be interpreted in terms of psionic form factors, and is determined to be ΔΦΨΔΦ^Ψ = ΦEΨ−ΦMΨΦ^Ψ_{E} - Φ^Ψ_{M} = (71−46+66(71^{+66}_{-46} ±\pm 5)∘^{\circ}. Similarly, the ratio between the form factors is found to be RψR^ψ = ∣GEΨ/GMΨ∣|G^Ψ_{E}/G^Ψ_{M}| = 0.48−0.07+0.120.48^{+0.12}_{-0.07} ±\pm 0.04. Measurement of the D→K−π+π+π−D \to K^-π^+π^+π^- and D→K−π+π0D \to K^-π^+π^0 coherence factors and average strong-phase differences in quantum-correlated DDˉ{D\bar{D}} decays

The decays D→K−π+π+π−D\to K^-π^+π^+π^- and D→K−π+π0D \to K^-π^+π^0 are studied in a sample of quantum-correlated DDˉD\bar{D} pairs produced through the process e+e−→ψ(3770)→DDˉe^+e^- \to ψ(3770) \to D\bar{D}, exploiting a data set collected by the BESIII experiment that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb−1^{-1}. Here DD indicates a quantum superposition of a D0D^0 and a Dˉ0\bar{D}^0 meson. By reconstructing one neutral charm meson in a signal decay, and the other in the same or a different final state, observables are measured that contain information on the coherence factors and average strong-phase differences of each of the signal modes. These parameters are critical inputs in the measurement of the angle γγ of the Unitarity Triangle in B−→DK−B^- \to DK^- decays at the LHCb and Belle II experiments. The coherence factors are determined to be RK3π=0.52−0.10+0.12R_{K3π}=0.52^{+0.12}_{-0.10} and RKππ0=0.78±0.04R_{Kππ^0}=0.78 \pm 0.04, with values for the average strong-phase differences that are δDK3π=(167−19+31)∘δ_D^{K3π}=\left(167^{+31}_{-19}\right)^\circ and δDKππ0=(196−15+14)∘δ_D^{Kππ^0}=\left(196^{+14}_{-15}\right)^\circ, where the uncertainties include both statistical and systematic contributions. The analysis is re-performed in four bins of the phase-space of the D→K−π+π+π−D \to K^-π^+π^+π^- to yield results that will allow for a more sensitive measurement of γγ with this mode, to which the BESIII inputs will contribute an uncertainty of around 6∘^\circ.

Using 2.93 fb−12.93\,\rm fb^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773\,GeV with the BESIII detector, we present a measurement of the branching fraction of the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed (DCS) decay D0→K+π−π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0 and a search for the DCS decay D0→K+π−π0π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0π^0. The branching fraction of D0→K+π−π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0 is determined to be [3.13−0.56+0.60(stat)±0.09(syst)]×10−4[3.13^{+0.60}_{-0.56}({\rm stat}) \pm 0.09({\rm syst})] \times 10^{-4}. No signal is observed for D0→K+π−π0π0D^0\to K^+π^-π^0π^0 and an upper limit of 3.6×10−43.6 \times 10^{-4} is set on the branching fraction at the 90\% C.L. Measurement of the total and leptonic decay widths of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance with an energy scan method at BESIII

Using e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data sets collected with the BESIII detector, we measure the cross sections of the processes e+e−→e+e−e^+e^- \to e^+e^- and e+e−→μ+μ−e^+e^- \to μ^+μ^- at fifteen center-of-mass energy points in the vicinity of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance. By a simultaneous fit to the measured, center-of-mass energy dependent cross sections of the two processes, the combined quantities ΓeeΓee/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{ee} / Γ_{\rm tot} and ΓeeΓμμ/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{μμ} / Γ_{\rm tot} are determined to be (0.346±0.0090.346 \pm 0.009) and (0.335±0.0060.335 \pm 0.006) keV, respectively, where ΓeeΓ_{ee}, ΓμμΓ_{μμ}, and ΓtotΓ_{\rm tot} are the electronic, muonic, and total decay widths of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance, respectively. Using the resultant ΓeeΓμμ/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{μμ} / Γ_{\rm tot} and ΓeeΓee/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{ee} / Γ_{\rm tot}, the ratio Γee/ΓμμΓ_{ee} / Γ_{μμ} is calculated to be 1.031±0.0151.031 \pm 0.015, which is consistent with the expectation of lepton universality within about two standard deviations. Assuming lepton universality and using the branching fraction of the J/ψJ/ψ leptonic decay measured by BESIII in 2013, ΓtotΓ_{\rm tot} and ΓllΓ_{ll} are determined to be (93.0±2.193.0 \pm 2.1) and (5.56±0.115.56 \pm 0.11) keV, respectively, where ΓllΓ_{ll} is the average leptonic decay width of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance.

The results are B(D0→KS0π0π0π0)=(7.64±0.30±0.29)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^0_Sπ^0π^0π^0 )=( 7.64\pm 0.30\pm 0.29)\times 10^{-3}, B(D0→K−π+π0π0π0)=(9.54±0.30±0.31)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^-π^+π^0π^0π^0 )=( 9.54\pm 0.30\pm 0.31)\times 10^{-3}, B(D0→KS0π+π−π0π0)=(12.66±0.45±0.43)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^0_Sπ^+π^-π^0π^0)=(12.66\pm 0.45\pm 0.43)\times 10^{-3}, B(D+→KS0π+π0π0)=(29.04±0.62±0.87)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^+\to K^0_Sπ^+π^0π^0 )=(29.04\pm 0.62\pm 0.87)\times 10^{-3}, B(D+→KS0π+π+π−π0)=(15.28±0.57±0.60)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^+\to K^0_Sπ^+π^+π^-π^0)=(15.28\pm 0.57\pm 0.60)\times 10^{-3}, B(D+→KS0π+π0π0π0)=(5.54±0.44±0.32)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^+\to K^0_Sπ^+π^0π^0π^0)=( 5.54\pm 0.44\pm 0.32)\times 10^{-3}, B(D+→K−π+π+π0π0)=(4.95±0.26±0.19)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^+\to K^-π^+π^+π^0π^0 )=( 4.95\pm 0.26\pm 0.19)\times 10^{-3}, B(D0→KS0KS0π0)<1.57×10−4{\mathcal B}({D^0\to K^0_S K^0_Sπ^0}) < 1.57 \times 10^{-4} at the 90\% confidence level. Here the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. The newly studied decays greatly enrich the knowledge of the D→KˉπππD\to \bar Kπππ and D→KˉππππD\to \bar Kππππ hadronic decays, and open a bridge to access more two-body hadronic DD decays containing scalar, vector, axial and tensor mesons in the charm sector.

Observation of resonance structures in e+e−→π+π−ψ2(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-ψ_2(3823) and mass measurement of ψ2(3823)ψ_2(3823)

Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 11.3 fb−1\rm fb^{-1} collected at center-of-mass energies from 4.234.23 to 4.704.70 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the product of the e+e−→π+π−ψ2(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-ψ_2(3823) cross section and the branching fraction B[ψ2(3823)→γχc1]\mathcal{B}[ψ_2(3823)\to γχ_{c1}]. For the first time, resonance structure is observed in the cross section line shape of e+e−→π+π−ψ2(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-ψ_2(3823) with significances exceeding 5σ5σ. A fit to data with two coherent Breit-Wigner resonances modeling the s\sqrt{s}-dependent cross section yields M(R1)=4406.9±17.2±4.5M(R_1)=4406.9\pm 17.2\pm 4.5 MeV/c2c^2, Γ(R1)=128.1±37.2±2.3Γ(R_1)=128.1\pm 37.2\pm 2.3 MeV, and M(R2)=4647.9±8.6±0.8M(R_2)=4647.9\pm 8.6\pm 0.8 MeV/c2c^2, Γ(R2)=33.1±18.6±4.1Γ(R_2)=33.1\pm 18.6\pm 4.1 MeV. Though weakly disfavored by the data, a single resonance with M(R)=4417.5±26.2±3.5M(R)=4417.5\pm26.2\pm3.5 MeV/c2c^2, Γ(R)=245±48±13Γ(R)=245\pm48\pm13 MeV is also possible to interpret data. This observation deepens our understanding of the nature of the vector charmoniumlike states. We set upper limits (at 90\% C.L.) of B(X(3872)→π0χc0)B(X(3872)→π+π−J/ψ)<3.6\frac{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\rightarrowπ^0χ_{c0})}{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\toπ^+π^-J/ψ)}<3.6, B(X(3872)→π+π−χc0)B(X(3872)→π+π−J/ψ)<0.68\frac{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\rightarrowπ^+π^-χ_{c0})}{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\toπ^+π^-J/ψ)}<0.68, and B(X(3872)→π0π0χc0)B(X(3872)→π+π−J/ψ)<1.7\frac{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\rightarrowπ^0π^0χ_{c0})}{\mathcal{B}(X(3872)\toπ^+π^-J/ψ)}<1.7. Search for invisible decays of the ΛΛ baryon

A search for invisible decays of the ΛΛ baryon is carried out in the process J/ψ→ΛΛˉJ/ψ\toΛ\barΛ based on (1.0087±0.0044)×1010(1.0087\pm0.0044)\times10^{10} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector located at the BEPCII storage ring. No signals are found for the invisible decays of ΛΛ baryon, and the upper limit of the branching fraction is determined to be 7.4×10−57.4 \times 10^{-5} at the 90% confidence level. This is the first search for invisible decays of baryons; such searches will play an important role in constraining dark sector models related to the baryon asymmetry.

Search for the decay D0→π0ννˉD^{0} \to π^{0} ν\barν

We present the first experimental search for the rare charm decay D0→π0ννˉD^{0} \to π^{0} ν\barν. It is based on an e+e−e^+e^- collision sample consisting of 10.6×10610.6\times10^{6} pairs of D0Dˉ0D^0\bar{D}^0 mesons collected by the BESIII detector at s\sqrt{s}=3.773 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93~fb−1^{-1}. A data-driven method is used to ensure the reliability of the background modeling. No significant D0→π0ννˉD^{0} \to π^{0} ν\barν signal is observed in data and an upper limit of the branching fraction is set to be 2.1×10−42.1\times 10^{-4} at the 90%\% confidence level. Evidence for the decay $\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac$ is reported with a statistical significance of 3.9σ3.9σ with various systematic uncertainties taken into account at s=4.226\sqrt{s} = 4.226 GeV, and the Born cross section times branching fraction $σ^{B}(\EE\to \pimp\zcpm)\times \BR(\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac)$ is measured to be (48±11±11) pb(48 \pm 11 \pm 11)\,\rm{pb}. The $\zcpm\to \rhopm\etac$ signal is not significant at the other center-of-mass energies and the corresponding upper limits are determined. In addition, no significant signal is observed in a search for $\zcppm\to ρ^{\pm}\etac$ with the same data samples. The Born cross sections of e+e−→Σ0Σˉ0e^{+}e^{-}\to Σ^{0}\barΣ^{0} are measured at center-of-mass energies from 2.38642.3864 to 3.02003.0200 GeV using data samples with an integrated luminosity of 328.5328.5 pb−1^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The analysis makes use of a novel reconstruction method for energies near production threshold, while a single-tag method is employed at other center-of-mass energies. The measured cross sections are consistent with earlier results from BaBar, with a substantially improved precision. The cross-section lineshape can be well described by a perturbative QCD-driven energy function. In addition, the effective form factors of the Σ0Σ^{0} baryon are determined. Weak phases and CP-symmetry tests in sequential decays of entangled double-strange baryons

Using a sample of 1.31×1091.31\times10^9 J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the electron-positron collider BEPCII, we analyse the full J/ψ→J/ψ\to Ξ−Ξ‾+Ξ^-\overlineΞ^+, Ξ−→Λπ−Ξ^-\to Λπ^-, Λ→pπ−Λ\to pπ^-, Ξ‾+→Λ‾π+\overlineΞ^+\to\overlineΛπ^+, Λ‾→p‾π+\overlineΛ\to\overline{p}π^+ decay chain. A new method, exploiting the fact that the Ξ−Ξ‾+Ξ^-\overlineΞ^+ pair is entangled and sequentially decaying, and where the complete decay chains are reconstructed, is applied for the first time. This enables precision measurements of the decay parameters for the Ξ−→Λπ−Ξ^-\toΛπ^- decay (αΞα_Ξ, ϕΞϕ_Ξ) as well as the Ξ‾+→Λ‾π+\overlineΞ^+\to\overlineΛπ^+ decay (α‾Ξ\overlineα_Ξ, ϕ‾Ξ\overlineϕ_Ξ). From the decay parameters, two independent CP tests were performed, quantified by the observables ACPΞA_{\rm CP}^Ξ and ΔϕΞΔϕ_Ξ. Our results, ACPΞA_{\rm CP}^Ξ = (6.0±13.4±5.6)×10−3(6.0\pm13.4\pm5.6)\times10^{-3} and ΔϕΞ=(−4.8±13.7±2.9)×10−3 radΔϕ_Ξ= (-4.8\pm13.7\pm2.9)\times10^{-3}~{\rm rad}, are consistent with CP symmetry. Furthermore, our method enables a separation of strong and weak Ξ→ΛπΞ\toΛπ decay amplitudes. This results in the first direct measurement of the weak phase difference for any baryon decay. The result is found to be (ξP−ξS)=(1.2±3.4±0.8)×10−2(ξ_{P} - ξ_{S}) = (1.2\pm3.4\pm0.8)\times10^{-2} rad and is one of the most precise tests of CP symmetry for strange baryons. The strong phase difference is measured to be (δP−δS)=(−4.0±3.3±1.7)×10−2(δ_P - δ_S) = (-4.0\pm3.3\pm1.7)\times10^{-2} rad. In addition, we provide an independent measurement of the recently debated ΛΛ decay parameter, αΛ=0.757±0.011±0.008α_Λ = 0.757 \pm 0.011 \pm 0.008 . The ΛΛ‾Λ\overlineΛ asymmetry is measured to be ACPΛ=(−3.7±11.7±9.0)×10−3A_{\rm CP}^Λ = (-3.7\pm11.7\pm9.0)\times10^{-3}.

The CP asymmetry ACP,Σ=(α0+αˉ0)/(α0−αˉ0)=−0.004±0.037±0.010A_{\rm CP,Σ} = (α_0 + \barα_0)/(α_0 - \barα_0) = -0.004\pm0.037\pm0.010 is extracted for the first time, and is found to be consistent with CP conservation.

Analysis of the decay D0→KS0K+K−D^0\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-}

Using a data sample of 2.93 fb−12.93~fb^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collisions collected at s=3.773GeV\sqrt{s}=3.773 GeV in the BESIII experiment, we perform an analysis of the decay D0→KS0K+K−D^0\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-}. The Dalitz plot is analyzed using 1856±451856\pm 45 flavor-tagged signal decays. We find that the Dalitz plot is well described by a set of six resonances: a0(980)0a_0(980)^0, a0(980)+a_0(980)^+, ϕ(1020)ϕ(1020), a2(1320)+a_2(1320)^+, a2(1320)−a_2(1320)^- and a0(1450)−a_0(1450)^-. Their magnitudes, phases and fit fractions are determined as well as the coupling of a0(980)a_0(980) to KKˉK\bar{K}, gKKˉ=3.77±0.24(stat.)±0.35(sys.)GeVg_{K\bar{K}}=3.77\pm 0.24\text{(stat.)}\pm0.35\text{(sys.)} GeV. The branching fraction of the decay D0→KS0K+K−D^0\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-} is measured using 11660±11811660\pm 118 untagged signal decays to be (4.51±0.05(stat.)±0.16(sys.))10−3(4.51\pm 0.05\text{(stat.)}\pm 0.16\text{(sys.)})10^{-3}. Both measurements are limited by their systematic uncertainties.

Cross section measurement of e+e−→η′J/ψe^+e^- \rightarrow η'J/ψ from s=4.178\sqrt{s} = 4.178 to 4.6004.600 GeV

The cross section of the process e+e−→η′J/ψe^+e^- \rightarrow η'J/ψ is measured at center-of-mass energies from s=\sqrt{s} = 4.178 to 4.600 GeV using data samples corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 11 fb−1^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. The dependence of the cross section on s\sqrt{s} shows an enhancement around 4.24.2 GeV. While the shape of the cross section cannot be fully explained with a single ψ(4160)ψ(4160) or ψ(4260)ψ(4260) state, a coherent sum of the two states does provide a reasonable description of the data.

Determination of strong-phase parameters in D→KS,L0π+π−D\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-

We report the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters between D0D^0 and Dˉ0\bar{D}^0 decays to KS,L0π+π−K^0_{S,L}π^+π^- using a sample of 2.93 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Our results provide the key inputs for a binned model-independent determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3 with BB decays. Using our results, the decay model sensitivity to the γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3 measurement is expected to be between 0.7∘^{\circ} and 1.2∘^{\circ}, approximately a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements. The improved precision of this work ensures that measurements of γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3 will not be limited by knowledge of strong phases for the next decade. Furthermore, our results provide critical input for other flavor-physics investigations, including charm mixing, other measurements of CPCP violation, and the measurement of strong-phase parameters for other DD-decay modes.

Erratum to "Measurement of the e+e−→π+π−e^+e^-\toπ^+π^- cross section between 600 and 900 MeV using initial state radiation"

In Phys. Lett. B 753, 629-638 (2016) [arXiv:1507.08188] the BESIII collaboration published a cross section measurement of the process e+e−→π+π−e^+e^-\to π^+ π^- in the energy range between 600 and 900 MeV. In this erratum we report a corrected evaluation of the statistical errors in terms of a fully propagated covariance matrix. The correction also yields a reduced statistical uncertainty for the hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, which now reads as aμππ,LO(600−900 MeV)=(368.2±1.5stat±3.3syst)×10−10a_μ^{ππ\mathrm{, LO}}(600 - 900\,\mathrm{MeV}) = (368.2 \pm 1.5_{\rm stat} \pm 3.3_{\rm syst})\times 10^{-10}. The central values of the cross section measurement and of aμππ,LOa_μ^{ππ\mathrm{, LO}}, as well as the systematic uncertainties remain unchanged.

Future Physics Programme of BESIII

There has recently been a dramatic renewal of interest in the subjects of hadron spectroscopy and charm physics. This renaissance has been driven in part by the discovery of a plethora of charmonium-like XYZXYZ states at BESIII and BB factories, and the observation of an intriguing proton-antiproton threshold enhancement and the possibly related X(1835)X(1835) meson state at BESIII, as well as the threshold measurements of charm mesons and charm baryons. We present a detailed survey of the important topics in tau-charm physics and hadron physics that can be further explored at BESIII over the remaining lifetime of BEPCII operation. This survey will help in the optimization of the data-taking plan over the coming years, and provides physics motivation for the possible upgrade of BEPCII to higher luminosity.

Inclusive charged and neutral particle multiplicity distributions in χcJχ_{cJ} and J/ψJ/ψ decays

Using a sample of 106 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) decays, ψ(3686)→γχcJ(J=0,1,2)ψ(3686) \to γχ_{cJ} (J = 0, 1, 2) and ψ(3686)→γχcJ,χcJ→γJ/ψψ(3686) \to γχ_{cJ}, χ_{cJ} \to γJ/ψ (J=1,2)(J = 1, 2) events are utilized to study inclusive χcJ→χ_{cJ} \to anything, χcJ→χ_{cJ} \to hadrons, and J/ψ→J/ψ\to anything distributions, including distributions of the number of charged tracks, electromagnetic calorimeter showers, and π0π^0s, and to compare them with distributions obtained from the BESIII Monte Carlo simulation. Information from each Monte Carlo simulated decay event is used to construct matrices connecting the detected distributions to the input predetection "produced" distributions. Assuming these matrices also apply to data, they are used to predict the analogous produced distributions of the decay events. Using these, the charged particle multiplicities are compared with results from MARK I. Further, comparison of the distributions of the number of photons in data with those in Monte Carlo simulation indicates that G-parity conservation should be taken into consideration in the simulation.

Measurement of proton electromagnetic form factors in e+e−→ppˉe^+e^- \to p\bar{p} in the energy region 2.00-3.08 GeV

The process of e+e−→ppˉe^+e^- \rightarrow p\bar{p} is studied at 22 center-of-mass energy points (s\sqrt{s}) from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV, exploiting 688.5~pb−1^{-1} of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section~(σppˉσ_{p\bar{p}}) of e+e−→ppˉe^+e^- \rightarrow p\bar{p} is measured with the energy-scan technique and it is found to be consistent with previously published data, but with much improved accuracy. In addition, the electromagnetic form-factor ratio (∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}|) and the value of the effective (∣Geff∣|G_{\rm{eff}}|), electric (∣GE∣|G_E|) and magnetic (∣GM∣|G_M|) form factors are measured by studying the helicity angle of the proton at 16 center-of-mass energy points. ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}| and ∣GM∣|G_M| are determined with high accuracy, providing uncertainties comparable to data in the space-like region, and ∣GE∣|G_E| is measured for the first time. We reach unprecedented accuracy, and precision results in the time-like region provide information to improve our understanding of the proton inner structure and to test theoretical models which depend on non-perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics.

The statistical significances are 12.9σ12.9σ and 7.7σ7.7 σ, respectively. The precision of B(D0→ωπ+π−)\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to ωπ^+π^-) is improved by a factor of 2.1 over the CLEO measurement, and B(D+→ωπ+π0)\mathcal{B}(D^+ \to ωπ^+π^0) is measured for the first time. No significant signal of B(D0→ωπ0π0)\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to ωπ^0π^0) is observed, and the upper limit on the branching fraction is B(D0→ωπ0π0)<1.10×10−3\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to ωπ^0π^0) < 1.10 \times 10^{-3} at the 90%90\% confidence level. Measurement of the cross section for e+e−→Ξ−Ξˉ+e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+} and observation of an excited ΞΞ baryon

Using a total of 11.0 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collision data with center-of-mass energies between 4.009 GeV and 4.6 GeV and collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, we measure fifteen exclusive cross sections and effective form factors for the process e+e−→Ξ−Ξˉ+e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+} by means of a single baryon-tag method. After performing a fit to the dressed cross section of e+e−→Ξ−Ξˉ+e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+}, no significant ψ(4230)ψ(4230) or ψ(4260)ψ(4260) resonance is observed in the Ξ−Ξˉ+Ξ^{-}\barΞ^{+} final states, and upper limits at the 90\% confidence level on ΓeeBΓ_{ee}\mathcal{B} for the processes ψ(4230)ψ(4230)/ψ(4260)→Ξ−Ξˉ+ψ(4260)\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+} are determined. In addition, an excited ΞΞ baryon at 1820 MeV/c2c^{2} is observed with a statistical significance of 6.2 ∼\sim 6.5σσ by including the systematic uncertainty, and the mass and width are measured to be M=(1825.5±4.7±4.7)M = (1825.5 \pm 4.7 \pm 4.7)~MeV/c2c^{2} and Γ=(17.0±15.0±7.9)Γ= (17.0 \pm 15.0 \pm 7.9)~MeV, which confirms the existence of the JP=32−J^{P}=\frac{3}{2}^{-} state Ξ(1820)Ξ(1820).

Model-independent determination of the relative strong-phase difference between D0D^0 and Dˉ0→KS,L0π+π−\bar{D}^0\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^- and its impact on the measurement of the CKM angle γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3

Crucial inputs for a variety of CPCP-violation studies can be determined through the analysis of pairs of quantum-entangled neutral DD mesons, which are produced in the decay of the ψ(3770)ψ(3770) resonance. The relative strong-phase parameters between D0D^0 and Dˉ0\bar{D}^0 in the decays D0→KS,L0π+π−D^0\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^- are studied using 2.93~fb−1{\rm fb}^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data delivered by the BEPCII collider and collected by the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV. Results are presented in regions of the phase space of the decay. These are the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters in D→KS,L0π+π−D \to K_{S,L}^0π^+π^- decays. Using these parameters, the associated uncertainty on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3 is expected to be between 0.7∘0.7^\circ and 1.2∘1.2^\circ, for an analysis using the decay B±→DK±B^{\pm}\rightarrow DK^{\pm}, D→KS0π+π−D\rightarrow K^0_Sπ^+π^-, where DD represents a superposition of D0D^0 and D0ˉ\bar{D^0} states. This is a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements. Furthermore, these results provide valuable input for charm-mixing studies, other measurements of CPCP violation, and the measurement of strong-phase parameters for other DD-decay modes.

Observation of a cross-section enhancement near mass threshold in e+e−→ΛΛˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ

The process e+e−→ΛΛˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ is studied using data samples at s=2.2324\sqrt{s}=2.2324, 2.400, 2.800 and 3.080 GeV collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section is measured at s\sqrt{s}=2.2324 GeV, which is 1.0 MeV above the ΛΛˉΛ\barΛ mass threshold, to be 305±45−36+66305\pm45^{+66}_{-36} pb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The substantial cross section near threshold is significantly larger than that expected from theory, which predicts the cross section to vanish at threshold. The Born cross sections at s\sqrt{s}=2.400, 2.800 and 3.080 GeV are measured and found to be consistent with previous experimental results, but with improved precision. Finally, the corresponding effective electromagnetic form factors of ΛΛ are deduced.

The total Born cross sections for the process e+e−→K+K−π0π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0}π^{0}, as well as the Born cross sections f or the subprocesses e+e−→ϕπ0π0e^{+}e^{-} \to ϕπ^{0}π^{0}, K+(1460)K−K^{+}(1460)K^{-}, K1+(1400)K−K^{+}_{1}(1400)K^{-}, K1+(1270)K−K^{+}_{1}(1270)K^{-} and K∗+(892)K∗−(892)K^{*+}(892)K^{*-}(892), are measured versus the center-of-mass energy. The corresponding results for e+e−→K+K−π0π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0}π^{0} and ϕπ0π0ϕπ^{0}π^{0} are consistent with those of BaBar and have much improved precision.By analyzing the cross sections for the four subprocesses, K+(1460)K−K^{+}(1460)K^{-}, K1+(1400)K−K^{+}_{1}(1400)K^{-}, K1+(1270)K−K^{+ }_{1}(1270)K^{-} and K∗+K∗−K^{*+}K^{*-}, a structure with mass MM = (2126.5 ±\pm 16.8 ±\pm 12.4)~MeV/c^{2} and width ΓΓ = (106.9 ±\pm 32.1 ±\pm 28.1)~MeV is observed with an overall statistical significance of 6.3 σσ, although with very limited significance in the subprocesses e+e−→K1+(1270)K−e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}_{1}(1270)K^{-} and K∗+(892)K∗−(892)K^{*+}(892)K^{*-}(892). Observation of a resonant structure in e+e−→ωηe^{+}e^{-} \to ωη and another in e+e−→ωπ0e^{+}e^{-} \to ωπ^{0} at center-of-mass energies between 2.00 and 3.08 GeV

Born cross sections for the processes e+e−→ωηe^+e^- \to ωη and e+e−→ωπ0e^+e^- \to ωπ^{0} have been determined for center-of-mass energies between 2.00 and 3.08 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The simultaneous observation of the ϕ(1680)ϕ(1680) and X(1750)X(1750) indicates that the X(1750)X(1750), with previous observations in photoproduction, is distinct from the ϕ(1680)ϕ(1680). Time performance of a triple-GEM detector at high rate

Gaseous detectors are used in high energy physics as trackers or, more generally, as devices for the measurement of the particle position. For this reason, they must provide high spatial resolution and they have to be able to operate in regions of intense radiation, i.e. around the interaction point of collider machines. Among these, Micro Pattern Gaseous Detectors (MPGD) are the latest frontier and allow to overcome many limitations of the pre-existing detectors, such as the radiation tolerance and the rate capability. The gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) is a MPGD that exploits an intense electric field in a reduced amplification region in order to prevent discharges. Several amplification stages, like in a triple-GEM, allow to increase the detector gain and to reduce the discharge probability. Reconstruction techniques such as charge centroid (CC) and micro-Time Projection Chamber ($\upmu$TPC) are used to perform the position measurement. From literature triple-GEMs show a stable behaviour up to 108 10^8\,Hz/cm2^2. A testbeam with four planar triple-GEMs has been performed at the Mainz Microtron (MAMI) facility and their performance was evaluated in different beam conditions. In this article a focus on the time performance for the $\upmu$TPC clusterization is given and a new measurement of the triple-GEM limits at high rate will be presented.

Measurement of azimuthal asymmetries in inclusive charged dipion production in e+e−e^+e^- annihilations at s\sqrt{s} = 3.65 GeV

We present a measurement of the azimuthal asymmetries of two charged pions in the inclusive process e+e−→ππXe^+e^-\rightarrow ππX based on a data set of 62 pb−1\rm{pb}^{-1} at the center-of-mass energy s=3.65\sqrt{s}=3.65 GeV collected with the BESIII detector. These asymmetries can be attributed to the Collins fragmentation function. We observe a nonzero asymmetry, which increases with increasing pion momentum. As our energy scale is close to that of the existing semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering experimental data, the measured asymmetries are important inputs for the global analysis of extracting the quark transversity distribution inside the nucleon and are valuable to explore the energy evolution of the spin-dependent fragmentation function.

Observation of an anomalous line shape of the η′π+π−η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} mass spectrum near the ppˉp\bar{p} mass threshold in J/ψ→γη′π+π−J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}

Using 1.09×1091.09\times10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ events collected by the BESIII experiment in 2012, we study the J/ψ→γη′π+π−J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} process and observe a significant abrupt change in the slope of the η′π+π−η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} invariant mass distribution at the proton-antiproton (ppˉp\bar{p}) mass threshold. We use two models to characterize the η′π+π−η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} line shape around 1.85 GeV/c21.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}: one which explicitly incorporates the opening of a decay threshold in the mass spectrum (Flatté formula), and another which is the coherent sum of two resonant amplitudes. Both fits show almost equally good agreement with data, and suggest the existence of either a broad state around 1.85 GeV/c21.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2} with strong couplings to ppˉp\bar{p} final states or a narrow state just below the ppˉp\bar{p} mass threshold. Although we cannot distinguish between the fits, either one supports the existence of a ppˉp\bar{p} molecule-like state or bound state with greater than 7σ7σ significance.

Observation of pseudoscalar and tensor resonances in J/ψ→γϕϕJ/ψ\rightarrow γϕϕ

Based on a sample of (1310.6±10.5)×106(1310.6 \pm 10.5) \times 10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, a partial wave analysis of the decay J/ψ→γϕϕJ/ψ\rightarrow γϕϕ is performed in order to study the intermediate states. Results of the partial wave analysis show that the structures are predominantly 0−+0^{-+} states. The existence of the η(2225)η(2225) is confirmed, and its resonance parameters are measured. Two additional pseudoscalar states, the η(2100)η(2100) with a mass of 2050−24+30−26+752050_{-24}^{+30}{}_{-26}^{+75}~MeV/c2c^{2} and a width of 250−30+36−164+181250_{-30}^{+36}{}_{-164}^{+181}~MeV/c2c^{2} and the X(2500)X(2500) with a mass of 2470−19+15−23+1012470_{-19}^{+15}{}_{-23}^{+101}~MeV/c2c^{2} and a width of 230−35+64−33+56230_{-35}^{+64}{}_{-33}^{+56}~MeV/c2c^{2}, are observed. In addition to these three pseudoscalar states, the scalar state f0(2100)f_0(2100), and three tensor states, the f2(2010)f_2(2010), f2(2300)f_2(2300) and f2(2340)f_2(2340), are observed in the process J/ψ→γϕϕJ/ψ\rightarrow γϕϕ. The product branching fractions B{\cal B}(J/ψ→γX)×B(X→ϕϕ)J/ψ\rightarrow γX)\times{\cal B}(X\rightarrow ϕϕ) are reported.

Search for the weak decay η′→K±π∓η^{\prime}\to K^{\pm}π^{\mp} and precise measurement of the branching fraction B(J/ψ→ϕη′){\cal B}(J/ψ\toϕη^{\prime})

We present the first search for the rare decay of η′η^\prime into K±π∓K^{\pm}π^{\mp} in J/ψ→ϕη′J/ψ\toϕη^{\prime}, using a sample of 1.3×1091.3\times10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector. In addition, we report the measurement of the branching fraction of J/ψ→ϕη′J/ψ\toϕη^{\prime} to be (5.10±0.03(stat.)±0.32(syst.))×10−4(5.10\pm0.03(\text{stat.})\pm0.32(\text{syst.}))\times10^{-4}, which agrees with previous results from BESII.

Study of D+→K−π+e+νeD^{+} \to K^{-} π^+ e^+ ν_e

We present an analysis of the decay D+→K−π+e+νeD^{+} \to K^{-} π^+ e^+ ν_e based on data collected by the BESIII experiment at the ψ(3770)ψ(3770) resonance. Using a nearly background-free sample of 18262 events, we measure the branching fraction B(D+→K−π+e+νe)=(3.71±0.03±0.08)%\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \to K^{-} π^+ e^+ ν_e) = (3.71 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.08)\%. For 0.8<mKπ<1.00.8<m_{Kπ}<1.0 GeV/c2c^{2} the partial branching fraction is B(D+→K−π+e+νe)[0.8,1]=(3.33±0.03±0.07)%\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \to K^{-} π^+ e^+ ν_e)_{[0.8,1]} = (3.33 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.07)\%. A partial wave analysis shows that the dominant Kˉ∗(892)0\bar K^{*}(892)^{0} component is accompanied by an \emph{S}-wave contribution accounting for (6.05±0.22±0.18)%(6.05\pm0.22\pm0.18)\% of the total rate and that other components are negligible. The parameters of the Kˉ∗(892)0\bar K^{*}(892)^{0} resonance and of the form factors based on the spectroscopic pole dominance predictions are also measured. We also present a measurement of the Kˉ∗(892)0\bar K^{*}(892)^{0} helicity basis form factors in a model-independent way.

Using a data sample of 1.31×1091.31 \times 10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector, the decay J/ψ→ppˉϕJ/ψ\to p\bar{p}ϕ is studied via two decay modes, ϕ→KS0KL0ϕ\to K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{L} and ϕ→K+K−ϕ\to K^{+}K^{-}. The branching fraction of J/ψ→ppˉϕJ/ψ\to p\bar{p}ϕ is measured to be $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to p\bar{p}ϕ)=[5.23\pm0.06(\mbox{stat})\pm0.33(\mbox{syst})]\times10^{-5}$, which agrees well with a previously published measurement, but with a significantly improved precision. No evident enhancement near the ppˉp\bar{p} mass threshold, denoted as X(ppˉ)X(p\bar{p}), is observed, and the upper limit on the branching fraction of J/ψ→X(ppˉ)ϕ→ppˉϕJ/ψ\to X(p\bar{p})ϕ\to p\bar{p}ϕ is determined to be B(J/ψ→X(ppˉ)ϕ→ppˉϕ)<2.1×10−7\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to X(p\bar{p})ϕ\to p\bar{p}ϕ)<2.1\times10^{-7} at the 90\% confidence level.

An amplitude analysis of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system produced in radiative J/ψJ/ψ decays

An amplitude analysis of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system produced in radiative J/ψJ/ψ decays is presented. In particular, a piecewise function that describes the dynamics of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system is determined as a function of Mπ0π0M_{π^{0}π^{0}} from an analysis of the (1.311±0.011)×109(1.311\pm0.011)\times10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ decays collected by the BESIII detector. The goal of this analysis is to provide a description of the scalar and tensor components of the π0π0π^0π^0 system while making minimal assumptions about the properties or number of poles in the amplitude. Such a model-independent description allows one to integrate these results with other related results from complementary reactions in the development of phenomenological models, which can then be used to directly fit experimental data to obtain parameters of interest. The branching fraction of J/ψ→γπ0π0J/ψ\to γπ^{0}π^{0} is determined to be (1.15±0.05)×10−3(1.15\pm0.05)\times10^{-3}, where the uncertainty is systematic only and the statistical uncertainty is negligible.

We present a study of the process e+e−→π±(DDˉ∗)∓e^+e^-\toπ^{\pm}(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp} using data samples of 1092~pb−1^{-1} at s=4.23\sqrt{s}=4.23~GeV and 826~pb−1^{-1} at s=4.26\sqrt{s}=4.26~GeV collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. With full reconstruction of the DD meson pair and the bachelor π±π^{\pm} in the final state, we confirm the existence of the charged structure Zc(3885)∓Z_c(3885)^{\mp} in the (DDˉ∗)∓(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp} system in the two isospin processes e+e−→π+D0D∗−e^+e^-\toπ^+D^0D^{*-} and e+e−→π+D−D∗0e^+e^-\toπ^+D^-D^{*0}. By performing a simultaneous fit, the statistical significance of Zc(3885)∓Zc(3885)^{\mp} signal is determined to be greater than 10σσ, and its pole mass and width are measured to be MpoleM_{\rm{pole}}=(3881.7±\pm1.6(stat.)±\pm1.6(syst.))~MeV/c2c^2 and ΓpoleΓ_{\rm{pole}}=(26.6±\pm2.0(stat.)±\pm2.1(syst.))~MeV, respectively. The Born cross section times the (DDˉ∗)∓(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp} branching fraction (σ(e+e−→π±Zc(3885)∓)×Br(Zc(3885)∓→(DDˉ∗)∓)σ(e^+e^-\toπ^{\pm}Z_{c}(3885)^{\mp}) \times Br(Z_{c}(3885)^{\mp}\to(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp})) is measured to be (141.6±7.9(stat.)±12.3(syst.)) pb(141.6\pm7.9(\text{stat.})\pm12.3(\text{syst.}))~\text{pb} at s=4.23\sqrt{s}=4.23~GeV and (108.4±6.9(stat.)±8.8(syst.)) pb(108.4\pm6.9(\text{stat.})\pm8.8(\text{syst.}))~\text{pb} at s=4.26\sqrt{s}=4.26~GeV. The polar angular distribution of the π±π^{\pm}-Zc(3885)∓Z_c(3885)^{\mp} system is consistent with the expectation of a quantum number assignment of JP=1+J^P=1^+ for Zc(3885)∓Z_c(3885)^{\mp}.

We report a measurement of the parameter yCPy_{CP} in $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace-\ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ oscillations performed by taking advantage of quantum coherence between pairs of $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace \ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ mesons produced in e+e−e^+e^- annihilations near threshold. Measurement of the absolute branching fraction for Λc+→Λe+νeΛ^+_{c}\to Λe^+ν_e

We report the first absolute measurement of the branching fraction of Λc+→Λe+νeΛ^+_{c}\rightarrow Λe^+ν_e. This measurement is based on 567 pb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data produced at s=4.599\sqrt{s}=4.599 GeV, which is just above the Λc+Λˉc−Λ^+_c\barΛ^-_c threshold. The data were collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage rings. The branching fraction is determined to be B(Λc+→Λe+νe)=(3.63±0.38(stat)±0.20(syst))%\mathcal B({Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λe^+ν_e})=(3.63\pm0.38({\rm stat})\pm0.20({\rm syst}))\%, representing a more than twofold improvement in precision upon previously published results. As the branching fraction for Λc+→Λe+νeΛ^+_{c}\rightarrow Λe^+ν_e is the benchmark for those of other Λc+Λ^+_c semileptonic channels, our result provides a unique test of different theoretical models, which is the most stringent to date.

Measurement of the proton form factor by studying e+e−→ppˉe^{+} e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p}

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the Born cross section of e+e−→ppˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p} at 12 center-of-mass energies from 2232.4 to 3671.0 MeV. The corresponding effective electromagnetic form factor of the proton is deduced under the assumption that the electric and magnetic form factors are equal (∣GE∣=∣GM∣)(|G_{E}|= |G_{M}|). In addition, the ratio of electric to magnetic form factors, ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}|, and ∣GM∣|G_{M}| are extracted by fitting the polar angle distribution of the proton for the data samples with larger statistics, namely at s=\sqrt{s}= 2232.4 and 2400.0 MeV and a combined sample at s\sqrt{s} = 3050.0, 3060.0 and 3080.0 MeV, respectively. The measured cross sections are in agreement with recent results from BaBar, improving the overall uncertainty by about 30\%. The ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}| ratios are close to unity and consistent with BaBar results in the same q2q^{2} region, which indicates the data are consistent with the assumption that ∣GE∣=∣GM∣|G_{E}|=|G_{M}| within uncertainties.

Observation and Spin-Parity Determination of the X(1835)X(1835) in J/ψ→γKS0KS0ηJ/ψ\rightarrowγK^0_S K^0_Sη

We report an observation of the process J/ψ→γX(1835)→γKS0KS0ηJ/ψ\rightarrowγX(1835)\rightarrowγK^0_S K^0_Sη at low KS0KS0K^0_S K^0_S mass with a statistical significance larger than 12.9σσ using a data sample of 1.31×1091.31 \times 10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector. In this region of phase space the KS0KS0K^0_S K^0_S system is dominantly produced through the f0(980)f_0(980). By performing a partial wave analysis, we determine the spin-parity of the X(1835)X(1835) to be JPC=0−+J^{PC}=0^{-+}. The mass and width of the observed X(1835)X(1835) are 1844±9(stat)−25+16(syst)1844\pm9(\text{stat})^{+16}_{-25}(\text{syst})~\MeV~and 192−17+20(stat)−43+62(syst)192^{+20}_{-17}(\text{stat})^{+62}_{-43}(\text{syst})~MeV, respectively, which are consistent with the results obtained by BESIII in the channel J/ψ→γπ+π−η′J/ψ\rightarrowγπ^+π^-η^{\prime}.

Observation of a neutral charmoniumlike state Zc(4025)0Z_c(4025)^0 in e+e−→(D∗Dˉ∗)0π0e^{+} e^{-} \to (D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{0} π^0

We report a study of the process e+e−→(D∗Dˉ∗)0π0e^{+} e^{-} \to (D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{0} π^0 using e+e−e^+e^- collision data samples with integrated luminosities of 1092pb−11092 \rm{pb}^{-1} at s=4.23GeV\sqrt{s}=4.23 \rm{GeV} and 826pb−1826 \rm{pb}^{-1} at s=4.26GeV\sqrt{s}=4.26 \rm{GeV} collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. We observe a new neutral structure near the (D∗Dˉ∗)0(D^{*} \bar{D}^{*})^{0} mass threshold in the π0π^0 recoil mass spectrum, which we denote as Zc(4025)0Z_{c}(4025)^{0}. Assuming a Breit-Wigner line shape, its pole mass and pole width are determined to be (4025.5−4.7+2.0±3.1)MeV/c2(4025.5^{+2.0}_{-4.7}\pm3.1) \rm{MeV}/c^2 and (23.0±6.0±1.0)MeV(23.0\pm 6.0\pm 1.0) \rm{MeV}, respectively. A neutral structure in the DDˉ∗D\bar{D}^{*} system around the DDˉ∗D\bar{D}^{*} mass threshold is observed with a statistical significance greater than 10σσ in the processes e+e−→D+D∗−π0+c.c.e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow D^{+}D^{*-}π^{0}+c.c. and e+e−→D0Dˉ∗0π0+c.c.e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow D^{0}\bar{D}^{*0}π^{0}+c.c. at s\sqrt{s} = 4.226 and 4.257 GeV in the BESIII experiment. The structure is denoted as Zc(3885)0Z_{c}(3885)^{0}. Assuming the presence of a resonance, its pole mass and width are determined to be (3885.7−5.7+4.33885.7^{+4.3}_{-5.7}(stat)±8.4\pm 8.4(syst)) MeV/c2c^{2} and (35−12+1135^{+11}_{-12}(stat)±15 \pm 15(syst)) MeV, respectively. The Born cross sections are measured to be σ(e+e−→Zc(3885)0π0,Zc(3885)0→DDˉ∗)=(77±13σ(e^{+}e^{-}\to Z_{c}(3885)^{0}π^{0}, Z_{c}(3885)^{0} \to D\bar{D}^{*})=(77 \pm 13(stat)±17\pm 17(syst)) pb at 4.226 GeV and (47±947 \pm 9(stat)±10 \pm 10(syst)) pb at 4.257 GeV. The ratio of decay rates B(Zc(3885)0→D+D∗−+c.c.)B(Zc(3885)0→D0Dˉ∗0+c.c.)\frac{\mathcal{B}({Z_{c}(3885)^{0} \to D^{+}D^{*-}+c.c.})}{\mathcal{B}({Z_{c}(3885)^{0} \to D^{0}\bar{D}^{*0}+c.c.})} is determined to be 0.96±0.180.96 \pm 0.18(stat)±0.12\pm 0.12(syst), consistent with no isospin violation in the process Zc(3885)0→DDˉ∗Z_{c}(3885)^{0}\to D\bar{D}^*.

Observation of the ψ(13D2)ψ(1^3D_2) state in e+e−→π+π−γχc1e^+e^-\toπ^+π^-γχ_{c1} at BESIII

We report the observation of the X(3823)X(3823) in the process e+e−→π+π−X(3823)→π+π−γχc1e^+e^-\to π^+π^-X(3823) \to π^+π^-γχ_{c1} with a statistical significance of 6.2σ6.2σ, in data samples at center-of-mass energies s=\sqrt{s}=4.230, 4.260, 4.360, 4.420 and 4.600~GeV collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII electron positron collider. The measured mass of the X(3823)X(3823) is (3821.7±1.3±0.7)(3821.7\pm 1.3\pm 0.7)~MeV/c2c^2, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic, and the width is less than 1616~MeV at the 90\% confidence level. The products of the Born cross sections for e+e−→π+π−X(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-X(3823) and the branching ratio B[X(3823)→γχc1,c2]\mathcal{B}[X(3823)\to γχ_{c1,c2}] are also measured. Observation of the Dalitz Decay η′→γe+e−η' \to γe^+e^-

We report the first observation of the Dalitz decay η′→γe+e−η' \to γe^+e^-, based on a data sample of 1.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector. The η′η' mesons are produced via the J/ψ→γη′J/ψ\to γη' decay process. The ratio Γ(η′→γe+e−)/Γ(η′→γγ)Γ(η' \to γe^+ e^-)/Γ(η'\toγγ) is measured to be (2.13±0.09(stat.)±0.07(sys.))×10−2(2.13\pm0.09(\text{stat.})\pm0.07(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-2}. This corresponds to a branching fraction B(η′→γe+e−)=(4.69±0.20(stat.)±0.23(sys.))×10−4{\cal B}(η' \to γe^+e^-)= (4.69 \pm0.20(\text{stat.})\pm0.23(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-4}. The transition form factor is extracted and different expressions are compared to the measured dependence on the e+e−e^+e^- invariant mass. The results are consistent with the prediction of the Vector Meson Dominance model.

Observation of the electromagnetic doubly OZI-suppressed decay J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0}

Using a sample of 1.311.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we report the observation of the decay J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0}, which is the first evidence for a doubly Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka suppressed electromagnetic J/ψJ/ψ decay. A clear structure is observed in the K+K−K^{+} K^{-} mass spectrum around 1.02 GeV/c2c^2, which can be attributed to interference between J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0} and J/ψ→K+K−π0J/ψ\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} decays. Due to this interference, two possible solutions are found. The corresponding measured values of the branching fraction of J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0} are [2.94±0.16(stat.)±0.16(syst.)]×10−6[2.94 \pm 0.16\text{(stat.)} \pm 0.16\text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-6} and [1.24±0.33(stat.)±0.30(syst.)]×10−7[1.24 \pm 0.33\text{(stat.)} \pm 0.30\text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-7}.

Observation of the isospin-violating decay J/ψ→ϕπ0f0(980)J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0}f_{0}(980)

Using a sample of 1.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the decays J/ψ→ϕπ+π−π0J/ψ\to ϕπ^{+}π^{-}π^{0} and J/ψ→ϕπ0π0π0J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0}π^{0}π^{0} are investigated. The isospin violating decay J/ψ→ϕπ0f0(980)J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0} f_{0}(980) with f0(980)→ππf_{0}(980) \to ππ, is observed for the first time. The width of the f0(980)f_{0}(980) obtained from the dipion mass spectrum is found to be much smaller than the world average value. In the π0f0(980)π^{0} f_{0}(980) mass spectrum, there is evidence of f1(1285)f_1(1285) production. By studying the decay J/ψ→ϕη′J/ψ\to ϕη', the branching fractions of η′→π+π−π0η' \to π^{+}π^{-}π^{0} and η′→π0π0π0η' \to π^{0}π^{0}π^{0}, as well as their ratio, are also measured.

Observation of the Singly Cabibbo-Suppressed Decay D+→ωπ+D^{+}\toωπ^{+} and Evidence for D0→ωπ0D^{0}\toωπ^{0}

A double tag technique is used to measure the absolute branching fractions B(D+→ωπ+)=(2.79±0.57±0.16)×10−4\mathcal{B}(D^{+}\toωπ^{+})=(2.79\pm0.57\pm0.16)\times 10^{-4} and B(D0→ωπ0)=(1.17±0.34±0.07)×10−4\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toωπ^{0})=(1.17\pm0.34\pm0.07)\times 10^{-4}, with statistical significances of 5.5σ5.5σ and 4.1σ4.1σ, respectively. We also present measurements of the absolute branching fractions for the related ηπηπ decay modes. We find B(D+→ηπ+)=(3.07±0.22±0.13)×10−3\mathcal{B}(D^{+}\toηπ^{+})=(3.07\pm0.22\pm0.13)\times10^{-3} and B(D0→ηπ0)=(0.65±0.09±0.04)×10−3\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toηπ^{0})=(0.65\pm0.09\pm0.04)\times10^{-3}, which are consistent with the current world averages. Precision measurement of the D∗0D^{*0} decay branching fractions

Using 482 pb−1^{-1} of data taken at s=4.009\sqrt{s}=4.009 GeV, we measure the branching fractions of the decays of D∗0D^{*0} into D0π0D^0π^0 and D0γD^0γ to be $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0π^0)=(65.5\pm 0.8\pm 0.5)%$ and $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0γ)=(34.5\pm 0.8\pm 0.5)%$ respectively, by assuming that the D∗0D^{*0} decays only into these two modes. The ratio of the two branching fractions is $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0π^0)/\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0γ) =1.90\pm 0.07\pm 0.05$, which is independent of the assumption made above. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. The precision is improved by a factor of three compared to the present world average values.

Study of e+e−→ωχcJe^+e^-\toωχ_{cJ} at center-of-mass energies from 4.21 to 4.42 GeV

Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at 9 center-of-mass energies from 4.21 to 4.42 GeV, we search for the production of e+e−→ωχcJe^+e^-\to ωχ_{cJ} (JJ=0, 1, 2). The process e+e−→ωχc0e^+e^-\to ωχ_{c0} is observed for the first time, and the Born cross sections at s\sqrt{s}=4.23 and 4.26 GeV are measured to be (55.4±6.0±5.9)(55.4\pm 6.0\pm 5.9) and (23.7±5.3±3.5)(23.7\pm 5.3\pm 3.5) pb, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The ωχc0ωχ_{c0} signals at the other 7 energies and e+e−→ωχc1e^+e^-\to ωχ_{c1} and ωχc2ωχ_{c2} signals are not significant, and the upper limits on the cross sections are determined. Assuming the ωχc0ωχ_{c0} signals come from a single resonance, we extract mass and width of the resonance to be (4230±8±6)(4230\pm8\pm6) MeV/c2c^2 and (38±12±2)(38\pm12\pm2) MeV, respectively, and the statistical significance is more than 9σ9σ.

Using a data sample of 106 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII storage ring, we study for the first time the decay χcJ→ϕKS0K±π∓χ_{cJ}\toϕK^{0}_S K^{\pm}π^{\mp} and χcJ→ϕK+K−π0χ_{cJ}\toϕK^{+} K^{-}π^{0} in the E1 radiative transition ψ(3686)→γχcJψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}. The decays are dominated by the three-body decay χcJ→ϕK∗(892)Kˉχ_{cJ}\to ϕK^*(892)\bar{K}. We measure branching fractions for this reaction via the neutral and charged K∗(892)K^*(892) and find them consistent with each other within the expectation of isospin symmetry. In the KKˉπK\bar{K}π invariant mass distribution a structure near the K∗(892)KˉK^*(892)\bar{K} mass threshold is observed, and the corresponding mass and width are measured to be 1412±4(stat.)±8(sys.)MeV/c21412\pm4(\mathrm{stat.})\pm8(\mathrm{sys.}) \mathrm{MeV}/c^2 and ΓΓ = 84±12(stat.)±40(sys.)MeV84\pm12(\mathrm{stat.})\pm40(\mathrm{sys.}) \mathrm{MeV}, respectively. The observed state favors an assignment to the h1(1380)h_1(1380), considering its possible JPCJ^{PC} and comparing its mass, width and decay mode to those reported in the Particle Data Group.

Study of decay dynamics and CPCP asymmetry in D+→KL0e+νeD^+ \to K^0_L e^+ ν_e decay

Using 2.92~fb−1^{-1} of electron-positron annihilation data collected at s=3.773\sqrt{s} = 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector, we obtain the first measurements of the absolute branching fraction B(D+→KL0e+νe)=(4.481±0.027(stat.)±0.103(sys.))%\mathcal{B}(D^+ \to K^0_L e^+ ν_e) = (4.481 \pm 0.027(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.103(\mathrm{sys.}))\% and the CPCP asymmetry ACPD+→KL0e+νe=(−0.59±0.60(stat.)±1.48(sys.))%A_{CP}^{D^+ \to K^0_L e^+ ν_e} = (-0.59 \pm 0.60(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 1.48(\mathrm{sys.}))\%. From the D+→KL0e+νeD^+ \to K^0_L e^+ ν_e differential decay rate distribution, the product of the hadronic form factor and the magnitude of the CKM matrix element, f+K(0)∣Vcs∣f_{+}^{K}(0)|V_{cs}|, is determined to be 0.728±0.006(stat.)±0.011(sys.)0.728 \pm 0.006(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.011(\mathrm{sys.}). Using ∣Vcs∣|V_{cs}| from the SM constrained fit with the measured f+K(0)∣Vcs∣f_{+}^{K}(0)|V_{cs}|, f+K(0)=0.748±0.007(stat.)±0.012(sys.)f_{+}^{K}(0) = 0.748 \pm 0.007(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.012(\mathrm{sys.}) is obtained, and utilizing the unquenched LQCD calculation for f+K(0)f_{+}^{K}(0), ∣Vcs∣=0.975±0.008(stat.)±0.015(sys.)±0.025(LQCD)|V_{cs}| = 0.975 \pm 0.008(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.015(\mathrm{sys.}) \pm 0.025(\mathrm{LQCD}).

Study of Dynamics of D0→K−e+νeD^0 \to K^- e^+ ν_{e} and D0→π−e+νeD^0\toπ^- e^+ ν_{e} Decays

In an analysis of a 2.92~fb−1^{-1} data sample taken at 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider, we measure the absolute decay branching fractions to be B(D0→K−e+νe)=(3.505±0.014±0.033)%\mathcal B(D^0 \to K^-e^+ν_e)=(3.505\pm 0.014 \pm 0.033)\% and B(D0→π−e+νe)=(0.295±0.004±0.003)%\mathcal B(D^0 \to π^-e^+ν_e)=(0.295\pm 0.004\pm 0.003)\%. From a study of the differential decay rates we obtain the products of hadronic form factor and the magnitude of the CKM matrix element f+K(0)∣Vcs∣=0.7172±0.0025±0.0035f_{+}^K(0)|V_{cs}|=0.7172\pm0.0025\pm 0.0035 and f+π(0)∣Vcd∣=0.1435±0.0018±0.0009f_{+}^π(0)|V_{cd}|=0.1435\pm0.0018\pm 0.0009. Combining these products with the values of ∣Vcs(d)∣|V_{cs(d)}| from the SM constraint fit, we extract the hadronic form factors f+K(0)=0.7368±0.0026±0.0036f^K_+(0) = 0.7368\pm0.0026\pm 0.0036 and f+π(0)=0.6372±0.0080±0.0044f^π_+(0) = 0.6372\pm0.0080\pm 0.0044, and their ratio f+π(0)/f+K(0)=0.8649±0.0112±0.0073f_+^π(0)/f_+^{K}(0)=0.8649\pm 0.0112\pm 0.0073. These form factors and their ratio are used to test unquenched Lattice QCD calculations of the form factors and a light cone sum rule (LCSR) calculation of their ratio. The measured value of f+K(π)(0)∣Vcs(d)∣f_+^{K(π)}(0) |V_{cs(d)}| and the lattice QCD value for f+K(π)(0)f^{K(π)}_+(0) are used to extract values of the CKM matrix elements of ∣Vcs∣=0.9601±0.0033±0.0047±0.0239|V_{cs}|=0.9601 \pm 0.0033 \pm 0.0047 \pm 0.0239 and ∣Vcd∣=0.2155±0.0027±0.0014±0.0094|V_{cd}|=0.2155 \pm 0.0027 \pm 0.0014 \pm 0.0094, where the third errors are due to the uncertainties in lattice QCD calculations of the form factors. Using the LCSR value for f+π(0)/f+K(0)f_+^π(0)/f_+^K(0), we determine the ratio ∣Vcd∣/∣Vcs∣=0.238±0.004±0.002±0.011|V_{cd}|/|V_{cs}|=0.238\pm 0.004\pm 0.002\pm 0.011, where the third error is from the uncertainty in the LCSR normalization. In addition, we measure form factor parameters for three different theoretical models that describe the weak hadronic charged currents for these two semileptonic decays. All of these measurements are the most precise to date.

A new inner drift chamber for BESIII MDC

Due to the beam related background, the inner chamber of BESIII MDC has aging effect after 5 years running. The gains of the inner chamber cells decrease obviously, and the max gain decrease is about 26% for the first layer cells. A new inner drift chamber with eight stereo sense wire layers as a backup for MDC is under construction, which is almost the same as the current one but using stepped endplates to shorten the wire length beyond the effective solid angle. This new structure will be of benefit to reducing the counting rate of single cell. The manufacture of each component is going smoothly, and the new inner drift chamber will be finished by the end of April 2014.

We perform an analysis of the D+→KS0π+π0D^+ \to K^0_S π^+ π^0 Dalitz plot using a data set of 2.92 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collisions at the ψ(3770)ψ(3770) mass accumulated by the BESIII Experiment, in which 166694 candidate events are selected with a background of 15.1%. The Dalitz plot is found to be well-represented by a combination of six quasi-two-body decay channels (KS0ρ+K^0_Sρ^+, KS0ρ(1450)+K^0_Sρ(1450)^+, K‾∗0π+\overline{K}^{*0}π^+, K‾0(1430)0π+\overline{K}_0(1430)^0π^+, K‾(1680)0π+\overline{K}(1680)^0π^+, κ‾0π+\overlineκ^0π^+) plus a small non-resonant component. Using the fit fractions from this analysis, partial branching ratios are updated with higher precision than previous measurements.

Measurement of the D→K−π+D\to K^-π^+ strong phase difference in ψ(3770)→D0D‾0ψ(3770)\to D^0\overline{D}{}^0

We study D0D‾0D^0\overline{D}{}^0 pairs produced in e+e−e^+e^- collisions at s=3.773\sqrt{s}=3.773 GeV using a data sample of 2.92 fb−1^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector. We measure the asymmetry AKπCP\mathcal{A}^{CP}_{Kπ} of the branching fractions of D→K−π+D \to K^-π^+ in CPCP-odd and CPCP-even eigenstates to be (12.7±1.3±0.7)×10−2(12.7\pm1.3\pm0.7)\times10^{-2}. AKπCP\mathcal{A}^{CP}_{Kπ} can be used to extract the strong phase difference δKπδ_{Kπ} between the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed process D‾0→K−π+\overline{D}{}^{0}\to K^-π^+ and the Cabibbo-favored process D0→K−π+D^0\to K^- π^+. Here, the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third uncertainty arises from the external parameters. This is the most precise measurement of δKπδ_{Kπ} to date.

Measurement of the branching fraction for ψ(3686)→ωK+K−ψ(3686)\toωK^+ K^-

With 1.06×1081.06\times 10^8 ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, the branching fraction of ψ(3686)→ωK+K−ψ(3686) \to ωK^+ K^- is measured to be (1.54±0.04±0.11)×10−4(1.54 \pm 0.04 \pm 0.11) \times 10^{-4}. This is the most precise result to date, due to the largest ψ(3686)ψ(3686) sample, improved signal reconstruction efficiency, good simulation of the detector performance, and a more accurate knowledge of the continuum contribution. Using the branching fraction of J/ψ→ωK+K−J/ψ\to ωK^+ K^-, the ratio B(ψ(3868)→K+K−)/B(J/ψ→K+K−)\mathcal{B}(ψ(3868) \to K^+K^-) / \mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to K^+K^-) is determined to be (18.4±3.7) %(18.4 \pm 3.7)\,\%. This constitutes a significantly improved test of the 12 %12\,\% rule, with the uncertainty now dominated by the J/ψJ/ψ branching fraction.

Based on a sample of 2.25×108J/ψ2.25\times 10^{8} J/ψ events taken with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we present the results of a study of the decay J/ψ→ηϕπ+π−J/ψ\to ηϕπ^{+}π^{-}. The Y(2175)Y(2175) resonance is observed in the invariant mass spectrum of ϕf0(980)ϕf_{0}(980) with a statistical significance of greater than 10σ10σ. The corresponding mass and width are determined to be M=2200±6(stat.)±5(syst.)MeV/c2M=2200\pm 6 \mathrm{(stat.)} \pm 5\mathrm{(syst.)} \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2} and Γ=104±15(stat.)±15(syst.)Γ=104\pm 15\mathrm{(stat.)}\pm 15\mathrm{(syst.)} MeV, respectively, and the product branching fraction is measured to be B(J/ψ→ηY(2175)\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\toηY(2175), Y(2175)→ϕf0(980)Y(2175)\to ϕf_{0}(980), f0(980)→π+π−)=(1.20±0.14(stat.)±0.37(syst.))×10−4f_{0}(980)\to π^{+}π^{-})= (1.20\pm 0.14\mathrm{(stat.)}\pm 0.37 \mathrm{(syst.)})\times 10^{-4}. The results are consistent within errors with those of previous experiments. We also measure the branching fraction of J/ψ→ϕf1(1285)J/ψ\to ϕf_1(1285) with f1(1285)→ηπ+π−f_1(1285)\to ηπ^{+}π^{-} and set upper limits on the branching fractions for J/ψ→ϕη(1405)J/ψ\to ϕη(1405)/ϕX(1835)ϕX(1835)/ϕX(1870)ϕX(1870) with η(1405)η(1405)/X(1835)X(1835)/X(1870)→ηπ+π−X(1870)\to ηπ^{+}π^{-} at the 90\% confidence level.

Development of a Relic Neutrino Detection Experiment at PTOLEMY: Princeton Tritium Observatory for Light, Early-Universe, Massive-Neutrino Yield

The PTOLEMY experiment (Princeton Tritium Observatory for Light, Early-Universe, Massive-Neutrino Yield) aims to achieve the sensitivity required to detect the relic neutrino background through a combination of a large area surface-deposition tritium target, MAC-E filter methods, cryogenic calorimetry, and RF tracking and time-of-flight systems. A small-scale prototype is in operation at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory with the goal of validating the technologies that would enable the design of a 100 gram PTOLEMY. With precision calorimetry in the prototype setup, the limitations from quantum mechanical and Doppler broadening of the tritium target for different substrates will be measured, including graphene substrates. Beyond relic neutrino physics, sterile neutrinos contributing to the dark matter in the universe are allowed by current constraints on partial contributions to the number of active neutrino species in thermal equilibrium in the early universe. The current PTOLEMY prototype is expected to have unique sensitivity in the search for sterile neutrinos with electron-flavor content for masses of 0.1--1keV, where less stringent, 10eV, energy resolution is required. The search for sterile neutrinos with electron-flavor content with the 100g PTOLEMY is expected to reach the level ∣Ue4∣2|U_{e4}|^2 of 10−410^{-4}--10−610^{-6}, depending on the sterile neutrino mass.

Observation of the decay ψ(3686)ψ(3686) →\rightarrow ΛΣˉ±π∓+c.c.Λ\barΣ^{\pm}π^{\mp}+c.c.

Using a sample of 1.06×1081.06\times10^{8} ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, we present the first observation of the decays of ψ(3686)ψ(3686) →\rightarrow ΛΣˉ+π−+c.c.Λ\barΣ^{+}π^{-}+c.c. and ψ(3686)ψ(3686) →\rightarrow ΛΣˉ−π++c.c.Λ\barΣ^{-}π^{+}+c.c.. The branching fractions are measured to be B(ψ(3686)→ΛΣˉ+π−+c.c.)=(1.40±0.03±0.13)×10−4\mathcal{B}(ψ(3686) \rightarrow Λ\barΣ^{+}π^{-} + c.c.)=(1.40\pm 0.03 \pm 0.13)\times10^{-4} and B(ψ(3686)→ΛΣˉ−π++c.c.)=(1.54±0.04±0.13)×10−4\mathcal{B}(ψ(3686) \rightarrow Λ\barΣ^{-}π^{+}+c.c.)=(1.54\pm 0.04 \pm 0.13)\times10^{-4}, where the first errors are statistical and the second ones systematic.

Spin liquid close to a quantum critical point in Na4_4Ir3_3O8_8

Na4_4Ir3_3O8_8 is a candidate material for a 3-dimensional quantum spin-liquid on the hyperkagome lattice. We present thermodynamic measurements of heat capacity CC and thermal conductivity κκ on high quality polycrystalline samples of Na4_4Ir3_3O8_8 down to T=500T = 500 mK and 7575 mK, respectively. Absence of long-range magnetic order down to T=75T = 75 mK strongly supports claims of a spin-liquid ground state. The constant magnetic susceptibility χχ below T≈25T \approx 25 K and the presence of a small but finite linear-TT term in C(T)C(T) suggest the presence of gapless spin excitations. Additionally, the magnetic Gru¨\ddot{\rm{u}}neisen ratio shows a divergence as T→0T \rightarrow 0 K and a scaling behavior which clearly demonstrates that Na4_4Ir3_3O8_8 is situated close to a zero-field QCP.

Strong nodeless pairing on separate electron Fermi surface sheets in (Tl, K)Fe1.78_{1.78}Se2_2 probed by ARPES

We performed a high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy study of the Tl0.63_{0.63}K0.37_{0.37}Fe1.78_{1.78}Se2_2 superconductor (Tc=29T_c=29 K). We show the existence of two electronlike bands at the M(π,0)(π, 0) point which cross the Fermi level at similar Fermi wave vectors to form nearly circular electronlike Fermi surface pockets. We observe a nearly isotropic ∼\sim 8.5 meV superconducting gap (Δ/kBTc∼7Δ/k_BT_c\sim 7) on these Fermi surfaces. Our analysis of the band structure around the Brillouin zone centre reveals two additional electronlike Fermi surfaces: a very small one and a larger one with kFk_F comparable to the FS pockets at M. Interestingly, a SC gap with a magnitude of ∼\sim 8 meV also develops along the latter FS. Our observations are consistent with the s-wave strong coupling scenario.

Splitting broad beams into arrays of dissipative spatial solitons by material and virtual gratings

We elaborate two generic methods for producing two-dimensional (2D) spatial soliton arrays (SSAs) in the framework of the cubic-quintic (CQ) complex Ginzburg-Landau (CGL) model. The first approach deals with a broad beam launched into the dissipative nonlinear medium, which is equipped with an imprinted grating of a sufficiently sharp form. The beam splits into a cluster of jets, each subsequently self-trapping into a stable soliton, if the power is sufficient for that. We consider two kinds of sharp gratings -- "raised-cosine" (RC) and Kronig-Penney (KP) lattices -- and two types of the input beams, fundamental and vortical. By selecting appropriate parameters, this method makes it possible to create various types of solitons arrays, such as solid, annular (with single and double rings), and cross-shaped ones. The second method uses a "virtual lattice", in the form of a periodic transverse phase modulation imprinted into the broad beam, which is passed through an appropriate phase mask and then shone into a uniform nonlinear medium. Two different types of the masks are considered, in the form of a "checkerboard" or "tilings". In that case, broad fundamental and vortical beams may also evolve into stable SSAs, if the beam's power and spacing of the virtual phase lattice are large enough. By means of the latter technique, square-shaped, hexagonal, and quasi-crystalline SSAs can be created.

Electronic properties of single-crystalline Fe1.05_{1.05}Te and Fe1.03_{1.03}Se0.30_{0.30}Te0.70_{0.70}

We report on a comprehensive study of the transport, specific heat, magnetic susceptibility and optical spectroscopy on single crystal of Fe1.05_{1.05}Te. We confirm that Fe1.05_{1.05}Te undergoes a first-order phase transition near 65 K. However, its physical properties are considerably different from other parent compounds of FeAs-based systems, presumably attributed to the presence of excess Fe ions. The charge transport is rather incoherent above the transition, and no clear signature of the gap is observed below the transition temperature. Strong impurity scattering effect exists also in Se-doped superconducting sample Fe1.03_{1.03}Se0.30_{0.30}Te0.70_{0.70}, leading to a relatively low Tc_c but a rather high upper critical field.
