Crepant Transformation Correspondence For Toric Stack Bundles

We prove a crepant transformation correspondence in genus zero Gromov-Witten theory for toric stack bundles related by crepant wall-crossings of the toric fibers. Specifically, we construct a symplectic transformation that identifies $I$-functions toric stack bundles suitably analytically continued using Mellin-Barnes integral approach. We compare our symplectic transformation with a Fourier-Mukai isomorphism between the $K$-groups.

Higher genus relative and orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants

Given a smooth projective variety $X$ and a smooth divisor $D\subset X$. We study relative Gromov-Witten invariants of $(X,D)$ and the corresponding orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of the $r$-th root stack $X_{D,r}$. For sufficiently large $r$, we prove that orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of $X_{D,r}$ are polynomials in $r$. Moreover, higher genus relative Gromov-Witten invariants of $(X,D)$ are exactly the constant terms of the corresponding higher genus orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of $X_{D,r}$. We also provide a new proof for the equality between genus zero relative and orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants, originally proved by Abramovich-Cadman-Wise \cite{ACW}. When $r$ is sufficiently large and $X=C$ is a curve, we prove that stationary relative invariants of $C$ are equal to the stationary orbifold invariants in all genera.

Higher genus relative and orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of curves

Given a smooth target curve $X$, we explore the relationship between Gromov-Witten invariants of $X$ relative to a smooth divisor and orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of the $r$-th root stack along the divisor. We proved that relative invariants are equal to the $r^0$-coefficient of the corresponding orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of $r$-th root stack for $r$ sufficiently large. Our result provides a precise relation between relative and orbifold invariants of target curves generalizing the result of Abramovich-Cadman-Wise to higher genus invariants of curves. Moreover, when $r$ is sufficiently large, we proved that relative stationary invariants of $X$ are equal to the orbifold stationary invariants in all genera. Our results lead to some interesting applications: a new proof of genus zero equality between relative and orbifold invariants of $X$ via localization; a new proof of the formula of Johnson-Pandharipande-Tseng for double Hurwitz numbers; a version of GW/H correspondence for stationary orbifold invariants.

On the finiteness of quantum K-theory of a homogeneous space

We show that the product in the quantum K-ring of a generalized flag manifold $G/P$ involves only finitely many powers of the Novikov variables. In contrast to previous approaches to this finiteness question, we exploit the finite difference module structure of quantum K-theory. At the core of the proof is a bound on the asymptotic growth of the $J$-function, which in turn comes from an analysis of the singularities of the zastava spaces studied in geometric representation theory. An appendix by H. Iritani establishes the equivalence between finiteness and a quadratic growth condition on certain shift operators.

K-theoretic quasimap invariants and their wall-crossing

For each positive rational number $ε$, we define $K$-theoretic $ε$-stable quasimaps to certain GIT quotients $W\sslash G$. For $ε>1$, this recovers the $K$-theoretic Gromov-Witten theory of $W\sslash G$ introduced in more general context by Givental and Y.-P. Lee. For arbitrary $ε_1$ and $ε_2$ in different stability chambers, these $K$-theoretic quasimap invariants are expected to be related by wall-crossing formulas. We prove wall-crossing formulas for genus zero $K$-theoretic quasimap theory when the target $W\sslash G$ admits a torus action with isolated fixed points and isolated one-dimensional orbits.

Gromov--Witten theory of Fano orbifold curves, Gamma integral structures and ADE-Toda Hierarchies

We construct an integrable hierarchy in the form of Hirota quadratic equations (HQE) that governs the Gromov--Witten (GW) invariants of the Fano orbifold projective curve $\mathbb{P}^1_{a_1,a_2,a_3}$. The vertex operators in our construction are given in terms of the $K$-theory of $\mathbb{P}^1_{a_1,a_2,a_3}$ via Iritani's $Γ$-class modification of the Chern character map. We also identify our HQEs with an appropriate Kac--Wakimoto hierarchy of ADE type. In particular, we obtain a generalization of the famous Toda conjecture about the GW invariants of $\mathbb{P}^1$ .

Lagrangian Floer superpotentials and crepant resolutions for toric orbifolds

We investigate the relationship between the Lagrangian Floer superpotentials for a toric orbifold and its toric crepant resolutions. More specifically, we study an open string version of the crepant resolution conjecture (CRC) which states that the Lagrangian Floer superpotential of a Gorenstein toric orbifold $\mathcal{X}$ and that of its toric crepant resolution $Y$ coincide after analytic continuation of quantum parameters and a change of variables. Relating this conjecture with the closed CRC, we find that the change of variable formula which appears in closed CRC can be explained by relations between open (orbifold) Gromov-Witten invariants. We also discover a geometric explanation (in terms of virtual counting of stable orbi-discs) for the specialization of quantum parameters to roots of unity which appears in Y. Ruan's original CRC ["The cohomology ring of crepant resolutions of orbifolds", Gromov-Witten theory of spin curves and orbifolds, 117-126, Contemp. Math., 403, Amer. Math. Soc., Providence, RI, 2006]. We prove the open CRC for the weighted projective spaces $\mathcal{X}=\mathbb{P}(1,\ldots,1,n)$ using an equality between open and closed orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants. Along the way, we also prove an open mirror theorem for these toric orbifolds.

Duality theorems for étale gerbes on orbifolds

Let $G$ be a finite group and $\Y$ a $G$-gerbe over an orbifold $\B$. A disconnected orbifold $\hat{\Y}$ and a flat U(1)-gerbe $c$ on $\hat{\Y}$ is canonically constructed from $\Y$. Motivated by a proposal in physics, we study a mathematical duality between the geometry of the $G$-gerbe $\Y$ and the geometry of $\hat{\Y}$ {\em twisted by} $c$. We prove several results verifying this duality in the contexts of noncommutative geometry and symplectic topology. In particular, we prove that the category of sheaves on $\Y$ is equivalent to the category of $c$-twisted sheaves on $\hat{\Y}$. When $\Y$ is symplectic, we show, by a combination of techniques from noncommutative geometry and symplectic topology, that the Chen-Ruan orbifold cohomology of $\Y$ is isomorphic to the $c$-twisted orbifold cohomology of $\hat{\Y}$ as graded algebras.

Enumerative meaning of mirror maps for toric Calabi-Yau manifolds

We prove that the inverse of a mirror map for a toric Calabi-Yau manifold of the form $K_Y$, where $Y$ is a compact toric Fano manifold, can be expressed in terms of generating functions of genus 0 open Gromov-Witten invariants defined by Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono \cite{FOOO10}. Such a relation between mirror maps and disk counting invariants was first conjectured by Gross and Siebert \cite[Conjecture 0.2 and Remark 5.1]{GS11} as part of their program, and was later formulated in terms of Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono's invariants in the toric Calabi-Yau case in \cite[Conjecture 1.1]{CLL12}.

On the relative dual of an $S^1$-gerbe over an orbifold

We construct a new effective orbifold $\widehat{\Y}$ with an $S^1$-gerbe $c$ to study an $S^1$-gerbe $\mathfrak{t}$ on a $G$-gerbe $\Y$ over an orbifold $\B$. We view the former as the relative dual, relative to $\B$, of the latter. We show that the two pairs $(\Y, \mathfrak{t})$ and $(\widehat{\Y}, c)$ have isomorphic categories of sheaves, and also the associated twisted groupoid algebras are Morita equivalent. As a corollary, the K-theory and cohomology groups of $(\Y, \mathfrak{t})$ and $(\widehat{\Y}, c)$ are isomorphic.

A Global SU(5) F-theory model with Wilson line breaking

We engineer compact SU(5) Grand Unified Theories in F-theory in which GUT-breaking is achieved by a discrete Wilson line. Because the internal gauge field is flat, these models avoid the high scale threshold corrections associated with hypercharge flux. Along the way, we exemplify the `local-to-global' approach in F-theory model building and demonstrate how the Tate divisor formalism can be used to address several challenges of extending local models to global ones. These include in particular the construction of G-fluxes that extend non-inherited bundles and the engineering of U(1) symmetries. We go beyond chirality computations and determine the precise (charged) massless spectrum, finding exactly three families of quarks and leptons but excessive doublet and/or triplet pairs in the Higgs sector (depending on the example) and vector-like exotics descending from the adjoint of SU(5)_{GUT}. Understanding why vector-like pairs persist in the Higgs sector without an obvious symmetry to protect them may shed light on new solutions to the mu problem in F-theory GUTs.

Seidel Representation for Symplectic Orbifolds

Let $(\X,ω)$ be a compact symplectic orbifold. We define $π_1(Ham(\X, ω))$, the fundamental group of the 2-group of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms of $(\X, ω)$, and construct a group homomorphism from $π_1(Ham(\X, ω))$ to the group $QH_{orb}^*(\X,Λ)^{\times}$ of multiplicatively invertible elements in the orbifold quantum cohomology ring of $(\X, ω)$. This extends the Seidel representation ([Se], [M]) to symplectic orbifolds.

Stacks associated to abelian tensor categories

For an abelian tensor category a stack is constructed. As an application we show that our construction can be used to recover a quasi-compact separated scheme from the category of its quasi-coherent sheaves. In another application, we show how the "dual stack" of the classifying stack $BG$ of a finite group $G$ can be obtained by altering the tensor product on the category $\rep{G}$ of $G$-representations. Using glueing techniques we show that the dual pair of a $G$-gerbe, in the sense of [TT10], can be constructed by glueing local dual stacks.

Gromov-Witten theory of root gerbes I: structure of genus $0$ moduli spaces

Let $X$ be a smooth complex projective algebraic variety. Given a line bundle $\mathcal{L}$ over $X$ and an integer $r>1$ one defines the stack $\sqrt[r]{\mathcal{L}/X}$ of $r$-th roots of $\mathcal{L}$. Motivated by Gromov-Witten theoretic questions, in this paper we analyze the structure of moduli stacks of genus $0$ twisted stable maps to $\sqrt[r]{\mathcal{L}/X}$. Our main results are explicit constructions of moduli stacks of genus $0$ twisted stable maps to $\sqrt[r]{\mathcal{L}/X}$ starting from moduli stack of genus $0$ stable maps to $X$. As a consequence, we prove an exact formula expressing genus $0$ Gromov-Witten invariants of $\sqrt[r]{\mathcal{L}/X}$ in terms of those of $X$.

On degree zero elliptic orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants

We compute, by two methods, the genus one degree zero orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants with non-stacky insertions which are exceptional cases of the dilaton and divisor equations. One method involves a detailed analysis of the relevant moduli spaces. The other method, valid in the presence of torus actions with isolated fixed points, is virtual localization. These computations verify the conjectural evaluations of these invariants. Some genus one twisted orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants are also computed.

Chern classes of Deligne-Mumford stacks and their coarse moduli spaces

Let $X$ be a complex projective algebraic variety with Gorenstein quotient singularities and $\X$ a smooth Deligne-Mumford stack having $X$ as its coarse moduli space. We show that the CSM class $c^{SM}(X)$ coincides with the pushforward to $X$ of the total Chern class $c(T_{I\X})$ of the inertia stack $I\X$. We also show that the stringy Chern class $c_{str}(X)$ of $X$, whenever is defined, coincides with the pushforward to $X$ of the total Chern class $c(T_{II\X})$ of the double inertia stack $II\X$. Some consequences concerning stringy/orbifold Hodge numbers are deduced.

Gromov-Witten theory of product stacks

Let $\mathcal{X}_1$ and $\mathcal{X}_2$ be smooth proper Deligne-Mumford stacks with projective coarse moduli spaces. We prove a formula for orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of the product stack $\mathcal{X}_1\times \mathcal{X}_2$ in terms of Gromov-Witten invariants of the factors $\mathcal{X}_1$ and $\mathcal{X}_2$. As an application, we deduce a decomposition result for Gromov-Witten theory of trivial gerbes.

Orbifold Quantum Riemann-Roch, Lefschetz and Serre

Given a vector bundle $F$ on a smooth Deligne-Mumford stack $\X$ and an invertible multiplicative characteristic class $\bc$, we define the orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of $\X$ twisted by $F$ and $\bc$. We prove a "quantum Riemann-Roch theorem" which expresses the generating function of the twisted invariants in terms of the generating function of the untwisted invariants. A Quantum Lefschetz Hyperplane Theorem is derived from this by specializing to genus zero. As an application, we determine the relationship between genus-0 orbifold Gromov-Witten invariants of $\X$ and that of a complete intersection. This provides a way to verify mirror symmetry predictions for complete intersection orbifolds.

Computing Genus-Zero Twisted Gromov-Witten Invariants

Twisted Gromov-Witten invariants are intersection numbers in moduli spaces of stable maps to a manifold or orbifold X which depend in addition on a vector bundle over X and an invertible multiplicative characteristic class. Special cases are closely related to local Gromov-Witten invariants of the bundle, and to genus-zero one-point invariants of complete intersections in X. We develop tools for computing genus-zero twisted Gromov-Witten invariants of orbifolds and apply them to several examples. We prove a "quantum Lefschetz theorem" which expresses genus-zero one-point Gromov-Witten invariants of a complete intersection in terms of those of the ambient orbifold X. We determine the genus-zero Gromov-Witten potential of the type A surface singularity C^2/Z_n. We also compute some genus-zero invariants of C^3/Z_3, verifying predictions of Aganagic-Bouchard-Klemm. In a self-contained Appendix, we determine the relationship between the quantum cohomology of the A_n surface singularity and that of its crepant resolution, thereby proving the Crepant Resolution Conjectures of Ruan and Bryan-Graber in this case.

Wall-Crossings in Toric Gromov-Witten Theory I: Crepant Examples

Let X be a Gorenstein orbifold and let Y be a crepant resolution of X. We state a conjecture relating the genus-zero Gromov--Witten invariants of X to those of Y, which differs in general from the Crepant Resolution Conjectures of Ruan and Bryan--Graber, and prove our conjecture when X = P(1,1,2) and X = P(1,1,1,3). As a consequence, we see that the original form of the Bryan--Graber Conjecture holds for P(1,1,2) but is probably false for P(1,1,1,3). Our methods are based on mirror symmetry for toric orbifolds.

Equivariant orbifold structures on the projective line and integrable hierarchies

Let $\CP^1_{k,m}$ be the orbifold structure on $\CP^1$ obtained via uniformizing the neighborhoods of 0 and $\infty$ respectively by $z\mapsto z^k$ and $w\mapsto w^m.$ The diagonal action of the torus on the projective line induces naturally an orbifold action on $\CP^1_{k,m}.$ In this paper we prove that if k and m are co-prime then Givental's prediction of the equivariant total descendent Gromov-Witten potential of $\CP^1_{k,m}$ satisfies certain Hirota Quadratic Equations (HQE for short). We also show that after an appropriate change of the variables, similar to Getzler's change in the equivariant Gromov-Witten theory of $\CP^1$, the HQE turn into the HQE of the 2-Toda hierarchy, i.e., the Gromov-Witten potential of $\CP^1_{k,m}$ is a tau-function of the 2-Toda hierarchy. More precisely, we obtain a sequence of tau-functions of the 2-Toda hierarchy from the descendent potential via some translations. The later condition, that all tau-functions in the sequence are obtained from a single one via translations, imposes a serious constraint on the solution of the 2-Toda hierarchy. Our theorem leads to the discovery of a new integrable hierarchy (we suggest to be called the Equivariant Bi-graded Toda Hierarchy). We conjecture that this new hierarchy governs, i.e., uniquely determines, the equivariant Gromov-Witten invariants of $\CP^1_{k,m}.$

On The Global Quotient Structure of The Space of Twisted Stable Maps to a Quotient Stack

Let $\mathcal{X}$ be a tame proper Deligne-Mumford stack of the form $[M/G]$ where $M$ is a scheme and $G$ is an algebraic group. We prove that the stack $\mathcal{K}_{g,n}(\mathcal{X},d)$ of twisted stable maps is a quotient stack and can be embedded into a smooth Deligne-Mumford stack. When $G$ is finite, we give a more precise construction of $\mathcal{K}_{g,n}(\mathcal{X},d)$ using Hilbert schemes and admissible $G$-covers.
