Antiferromagnetic structure and magnetic properties of Dy2O2Te: An isostructural analog of the rare-earth superconductors R2O2Bi

The rare-earth compounds R2O2Bi (R=Tb, Dy, Er, Lu, Y) are newly discovered superconductors in the vicinity of a rare-earth magnetic long-range order. In this work, we determine the magnetic order of the parent compound Dy2O2Te by neutron scattering as the A-type antiferromagnetic structure below the Néel temperature TN=9.7K. The large staggered magnetic moment 9.4(1) μB per Dy at T=3.5K lies in the basal ab plane. In a magnetic field, anomalous magnetic properties including the bifurcation between zero-field- and field-cooling magnetization, a butterfly-shaped magnetic hysteresis, and slow magnetic relaxation emerge, which are related to the field-induced metamagnetic transitions in Dy2O2Te. Our experimental findings could stimulate further research on the relation between antiferromagnetism and superconductivity in these rare-earth compounds.

Exchange field enhanced upper critical field of the superconductivity in compressed antiferromagnetic EuTe2

We report high pressure studies on the C-type antiferromagnetic semiconductor EuTe2 up to 36.0 GPa. A structural transition from the I4/mcm to C2/m space group is identified at ~16 GPa. Superconductivity is discovered above ~5 GPa in both the I4/mcm and C2/m space groups. In the low-pressure phase (< 16 GPa), the antiferromagnetic transition temperature is enhanced with increasing pressure due to the enhanced magnetic exchange interactions. Magnetoresistance measurements indicate an interplay between the local moments of Eu2+ and the conduction electrons of Te 5p orbits. The upper critical field of the superconductivity is well above the Pauli limit. Across the structural transition to the high-pressure phase (> 16 GPa), EuTe2 becomes nonmagnetic and the superconducting transition temperature evolves smoothly with the upper critical field below the Pauli limit. Therefore, the high upper critical field of EuTe2 in the low-pressure phase is due to the exchange field compensation effect of the Eu magnetic order and the superconductivity in both structures may arise in the framework of the BCS theory.

Extreme Suppression of Antiferromagnetic Order and Critical Scaling in a Two-Dimensional Random Quantum Magnet

Sr$_2$CuTeO$_6$ is a square-lattice Néel antiferromagnet with superexchange between first-neighbor $S=1/2$ Cu spins mediated by plaquette centered Te ions. Substituting Te by W, the affected impurity plaquettes have predominantly second-neighbor interactions, thus causing local magnetic frustration. Here we report a study of Sr$_2$CuTe$_{1-x}$W$_x$O$_6$ using neutron diffraction and $μ$SR techniques, showing that the Néel order vanishes already at $x = 0.025 \pm 0.005$. We explain this extreme order suppression using a two-dimensional Heisenberg spin model, demonstrating that a W-type impurity induces a deformation of the order parameter that decays with distance as $1/r^2$ at temperature $T=0$. The associated logarithmic singularity leads to loss of order for any $x>0$. Order for small $x>0$ and $T>0$ is induced by weak interplane couplings. In the nonmagnetic phase of Sr$_2$CuTe$_{1-x}$W$_x$O$_6$, the $μ$SR relaxation rate exhibits quantum critical scaling with a large dynamic exponent, $z \approx 3$, consistent with a random-singlet state.

Admissible homomorphisms and equivariant relations between weighted projective lines

The string group acts on the category of coherent sheaves over a weighted projective line by degree-shift actions. We study the equivariant equivalence relations induced by degree-shift actions between weighted projective lines. We prove that such an equivariant equivalence is characterized by an admissible homomorphism between the associated string groups. We classify all these equivariant equivalences for the weighted projective lines of domestic and tubular types.

Delay-aware Resource Allocation in Fog-assisted IoT Networks Through Reinforcement Learning

Fog nodes in the vicinity of IoT devices are promising to provision low latency services by offloading tasks from IoT devices to them. Mobile IoT is composed by mobile IoT devices such as vehicles, wearable devices and smartphones. Owing to the time-varying channel conditions, traffic loads and computing loads, it is challenging to improve the quality of service (QoS) of mobile IoT devices. As task delay consists of both the transmission delay and computing delay, we investigate the resource allocation (i.e., including both radio resource and computation resource) in both the wireless channel and fog node to minimize the delay of all tasks while their QoS constraints are satisfied. We formulate the resource allocation problem into an integer non-linear problem, where both the radio resource and computation resource are taken into account. As IoT tasks are dynamic, the resource allocation for different tasks are coupled with each other and the future information is impractical to be obtained. Therefore, we design an on-line reinforcement learning algorithm to make the sub-optimal decision in real time based on the system's experience replay data. The performance of the designed algorithm has been demonstrated by extensive simulation results.

Evolution of superconductivity and antiferromagnetic order in Ba(Fe$_{0.92-x}$Co$_{0.08}$V$_x$)$_2$As$_2$

The vanadium doping effects on superconductivity and magnetism of iron pnictides are investigated in Ba(Fe$_{0.92-x}$Co$_{0.08}$V$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ by transport, susceptibility and neutron scattering measurements. The doping of magnetic impurity V causes a fast suppression of superconductivity with T$_c$ reduced at a rate of 7.4~K/1\%V. On the other hand, the long-range commensurate $C$-type antiferromagnetic order is recovered upon the V doping. The value of ordered magnetic moments of Ba(Fe$_{0.92-x}$Co$_{0.08}$V$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ follows a dome-like evolution versus doping concentration x. A possible Griffiths-type antiferromagnetic region of multiple coexisting phases in the phase diagram of Ba(Fe$_{0.92-x}$Co$_{0.08}$V$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ is identified, in accordance with previous theoretical predictions based on a cooperative behavior of the magnetic impurities and the conduction electrons mediating the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interactions between them.

Design and experiment of electronic speckle shearing phase-shifting pattern interferometer

An electronic speckle shearing phase-shifting pattern interferometer (ESSPPI) based on Michelson interferometer was based in this paper. A rotatable mirror driven by a step motor in one of its reflective arm is used to generate an adjustable shearing and the mirror driven by piezoelectric transducer (PZT) in the other reflective arm was used to realize phaseshifting. In the experiments, the deformation of an aluminum plate with the same extern-force on different positions and different forces on the same position is measured. Meanwhile, the phase distribution and phase-unwrap image of the aluminum plate with the extern-force on its center position is obtained by the four-step phase-shifting method.

Distributed measurement of mode coupling in birefringent fibers with random polarization modes

A scanning white light interferometer is developed to measure the distributed polarization coupling (DPC) in high birefringence polarization maintaining fibers (PMFs). Traditionally, this technique requests only one polarization mode to be excited or both polarization modes to be excited with equal intensity in the PMF. Thus, an accurate alignment of the polarization direction with the principal axis in PMF is strictly required, which is not facilely realized in practical measurement. This paper develops a method to measure the spatial distribution of polarization mode coupling with random modes excited using a white light Michelson interferometer. The influence of incident polarization extinction ratio (PER) on polarization coupling detection is evaluated theoretically and experimentally. It is also analyzed and validated in corresponding measurement that the sensitivity of the polarization coupling detection system can be improved more than 100 times with the rotation of the analyzer.

How to be a Good Frand in China: an Exploratory Study of Effective Social Media Behaviours for Foreign Brands

Many foreign companies see social media as a low cost marketing space for entering the vast Chinese market. This is fraught with complexity, requiring an understanding of social media behaviour, social media marketing, and the Chinese context. In this exploratory pilot study, we develop the notion of franding (online freinding of brands) as a unifying metaphor, and suggest that effective social media brand strategies resemble effective online friend behaviours. Based on this we develop some propositions and evaluate them qualitatively in interviews with young Chinese consumers. Our study suggests that conceptualizing brand social media relationships as a type of online friendship can assist in harmonizing disparate literature and provide useful insights for organizations operating in this complex area.
