Commuting Toeplitz operators on Cartan domains of type IV and moment maps

Let us consider, for n≥3n \geq 3, the Cartan domain DnIV\mathrm{D}_n^{\mathrm{IV}} of type IV. On the weighted Bergman spaces Aλ2(DnIV)\mathcal{A}^2_λ(\mathrm{D}_n^{\mathrm{IV}}) we study the problem of the existence of commutative C∗C^*-algebras generated by Toeplitz operators with special symbols. We focus on the subgroup SO(n)×SO(2)\mathrm{SO}(n) \times \mathrm{SO}(2) of biholomorphisms of DnIV\mathrm{D}_n^{\mathrm{IV}} that fix the origin. The SO(n)×SO(2)\mathrm{SO}(n) \times \mathrm{SO}(2)-invariant symbols yield Toeplitz operators that generate commutative C∗C^*-algebras, but commutativity is lost when we consider symbols invariant under a maximal torus or under SO(2)\mathrm{SO}(2). We compute the moment map μSO(2)μ^{\mathrm{SO}(2)} for the SO(2)\mathrm{SO}(2)-action on DnIV\mathrm{D}_n^{\mathrm{IV}} considered as a symplectic manifold for the Bergman metric. We prove that the space of symbols of the form a=f∘μSO(2)a = f \circ μ^{\mathrm{SO}(2)}, denoted by L∞(DnIV)μSO(2)L^\infty(\mathrm{D}_n^{\mathrm{IV}})^{μ^{\mathrm{SO}(2)}}, yield Toeplitz operators that generate commutative C∗C^*-algebras. Spectral integral formulas for these Toeplitz operators are also obtained.

Radial-like Toeplitz operators on Cartan domains of type I

Let Dn×nI\mathrm{D}^\mathrm{I}_{n \times n} be the Cartan domain of type I which consists of the complex n×nn \times n matrices ZZ that satisfy Z∗Z<InZ^*Z < I_n. For a symbol a∈L∞(Dn×nI)a \in L^\infty(\mathrm{D}^\mathrm{I}_{n \times n}) we consider three radial-like type conditions: 1) left (right) U(n)\mathrm{U}(n)-invariant symbols, which can be defined by the condition a(Z)=a((Z∗Z)12)a(Z) = a\big((Z^*Z)^\frac{1}{2}\big) (a(Z)=a((ZZ∗)12)a(Z) = a\big((ZZ^*)^\frac{1}{2}\big), respectively), and 2) U(n)×U(n)\mathrm{U}(n) \times \mathrm{U}(n)-invariant symbols, which are defined by the condition a(A−1ZB)=a(Z)a(A^{-1}ZB) = a(Z) for every A,B∈U(n)A, B \in \mathrm{U}(n). We prove that, for n≥2n \geq 2, these yield different sets of symbols. If aa satisfies 1), either left or right, and bb satisfies 2), then we prove that the corresponding Toeplitz operators TaT_a and TbT_b commute on every weighted Bergman space. Furthermore, among those satisfying condition 1), either left or right, there exist, for n≥2n \geq 2, symbols aa whose corresponding Toeplitz operators TaT_a are non-normal. We use these facts to prove the existence, for n≥2n \geq 2, of commutative Banach non-C∗C^* algebras generated by Toeplitz operators.

Local and global rigidity for isometric actions of simple Lie groups on pseudo-Riemannian manifolds

Let MM be a finite volume analytic pseudo-Riemannian manifold that admits an isometric GG-action with a dense orbit, where GG is a connected non-compact simple Lie group. For low-dimensional MM, i.e. dim⁡(M)<2dim⁡(G)\dim(M) < 2\dim(G), when the normal bundle to the GG-orbits is non-integrable and for suitable conditions, we prove that MM has a GG-invariant metric which is locally isometric to a Lie group with a bi-invariant metric (local rigidity theorem). The latter does not require MM to be complete as in previous works. We also prove a general result showing that MM is, up to a finite covering, of the form H/ΓH/Γ (ΓΓ a lattice in the group HH) when we assume that MM is complete (global rigidity theorem). For both the local and the global rigidity theorems we provide cases that imply the rigidity of GG-actions for GG given by SO0(p,q)\mathrm{SO}_0(p,q), G2(2)G_{2(2)} or a non-compact simple Lie group of type F4F_4 over R\mathbb{R}. We also survey the techniques and results related to this work.

Separately Radial and Radial Toeplitz Operators on the Unit Ball and Representation Theory

We study Toeplitz operators with separately radial and radial symbols on the weighted Bergman spaces on the unit ball. The unitary equivalence of such operators with multiplication operators on ℓ2\ell^2 spaces was previously obtained by analytic methods elsewhere (see the references). We prove that the same constructions can be performed with a purely representation theoretic approach to obtain the same conclusions and formulas. However, our method is shorter, more elementary and more elucidating.

On low-dimensional manifolds with isometric U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q)-actions

Denote by U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q) the universal covering group of U(p,q)\mathrm{U}(p,q), the linear group of isometries of the pseudo-Hermitian space Cp,q\mathbb{C}^{p,q} of signature p,qp,q. Let MM be a connected analytic complete pseudo-Riemannian manifold that admits an isometric U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q)-action and that satisfies dim⁡M≤n(n+2)\dim M \leq n(n+2) where n=p+qn = p+q. We prove that if the action of SU~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{SU}}(p,q) (the connected derived group of U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q)) has a dense orbit and the center of U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q) acts non-trivially, then MM is an isometric quotient of manifolds involving simple Lie groups with bi-invariant metrics. Furthermore, the U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q)-action is lifted to M~\widetilde{M} to natural actions on the groups involved. As a particular case, we prove that when M~\widetilde{M} is not a pseudo-Riemannian product, then its geometry and U~(p,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{U}}(p,q)-action are obtained from one of the symmetric pairs (su(p,q+1),u(p,q))(\mathfrak{su}(p,q+1), \mathfrak{u}(p,q)) or (su(p+1,q),u(p,q))(\mathfrak{su}(p+1,q), \mathfrak{u}(p,q)).

Toeplitz Operators with Quasi-Homogeneuos Quasi-Radial Symbols on some Weakly Pseudoconvex Domains

On the weakly pseudo-convex domains ΩpnΩ_p^n we introduce quasi-homogeneous quasi-radial symbols. These are used to prove the existence of a commutative Banach algebra of Toeplitz operators on Bergman space of ΩpnΩ_p^n. We also show that group theoretic and geometric properties for our symbols are satisfied. The results presented here contain the geometric description of the symbols introduced by N. Vasilevski for the unit ball Bn\mathbb{B}^n.

Toeplitz operators with quasi-radial quasi-homogeneous symbols and bundles of Lagrangian frames

We prove that the quasi-homogenous symbols on the projective space Pn(C)\mathbb{P}^n(\mathbb{C}) yield commutative algebras of Toeplitz operators on all weighted Bergman spaces, thus extending to this compact case known results for the unit ball Bn\mathbb{B}^n. These algebras are Banach but not C∗C^*. We prove the existence of a strong link between such symbols and algebras with the geometry of Pn(C)\mathbb{P}^n(\mathbb{C}). The latter is also proved for the corresponding symbols and algebras on Bn\mathbb{B}^n.

Commutative C∗C^*-algebras of Toeplitz operators on complex projective spaces

We prove the existence of commutative C∗C^*-algebras of Toeplitz operators on every weighted Bergman space over the complex projective space Pn(C)\mathbb{P}^n(\mathbb{C}). The symbols that define our algebras are those that depend only on the radial part of the homogeneous coordinates. The algebras presented have an associated pair of Lagrangian foliations with distinguished geometric properties and are closely related to the geometry of Pn(C)\mathbb{P}^n(\mathbb{C}).

On low-dimensional manifolds with isometric SO0(p,q)\mathrm{SO}_0(p,q)-actions

Let GG be a non-compact simple Lie group with Lie algebra g\mathfrak{g}. Denote with m(g)m(\mathfrak{g}) the dimension of the smallest non-trivial g\mathfrak{g}-module with an invariant non-degenerate symmetric bilinear form. For an irreducible finite volume pseudo-Riemannian analytic manifold MM it is observed that dim⁡(M)≥dim⁡(G)+m(g)\dim(M) \geq \dim(G) + m(\mathfrak{g}) when MM admits an isometric GG-action with a dense orbit. The Main Theorem considers the case G=SO~0(p,q)G = \widetilde{\mathrm{SO}}_0(p,q) providing an explicit description of MM when the bound is achieved. In such case, MM is (up to a finite covering) the quotient by a lattice of either SO~0(p+1,q)\widetilde{\mathrm{SO}}_0(p+1,q) or SO~0(p,q+1)\widetilde{\mathrm{SO}}_0(p,q+1).

Isometric actions of simple groups and transverse structures: The integrable normal case

For actions with a dense orbit of a connected noncompact simple Lie group GG, we obtain some global rigidity results when the actions preserve certain geometric structures. In particular, we prove that for a GG-action to be equivalent to one on a space of the form (G×K\H)/Γ(G\times K\backslash H)/Γ, it is necessary and sufficient for the GG-action to preserve a pseudo-Riemannian metric and a transverse Riemannian metric to the orbits. A similar result proves that the GG-actions on spaces of the form (G×H)/Γ(G\times H)/Γ are characterized by preserving transverse parallelisms. By relating our techniques to the notion of the algebraic hull of an action, we obtain infinitesimal Lie algebra structures on certain geometric manifolds acted upon by GG.
