First Light from Beam Neutrinos on an LAPPD in ANNIE

The Accelerator Neutrino Neutron Interaction Experiment (ANNIE) is both a physics experiment and a technology testbed for next-generation light-based neutrino detection. In this paper, we report the first demonstration of a fully integrated Large Area Picosecond Photodetector (LAPPD) operating in a running neutrino beam experiment. Particular focus is given to the design, commissioning, and successful deployment of the Packaged ANNIE LAPPD (PAL), a waterproof, self-triggering module incorporating fast waveform digitization and precision timing synchronized to the ANNIE detector subsystems. We identify beam-correlated LAPPD data frames consistent with charged-current neutrino interactions observed in multiple detector subsystems, establishing the first detection of neutrino-induced Cherenkov light with an LAPPD. These results validate the system-level performance of LAPPDs under realistic experimental conditions-including long-term stability, timing synchronization, and event matching with conventional PMT and muon detector systems-marking a critical step toward their deployment in future large-scale neutrino and particle detectors.

Reconstruction of atmospheric neutrinos in DUNE's horizontal-drift far-detector module

This paper reports on the capabilities in reconstructing and identifying atmospheric neutrino interactions in one of the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment's (DUNE) far detector modules, a liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) with horizontal drift (FD-HD) of ionization electrons. The reconstruction is based upon the workflow developed for DUNE's long-baseline oscillation analysis, with some necessary machine-learning models' retraining and the addition of features relevant only to atmospheric neutrinos such as the neutrino direction reconstruction. Where relevant, the impact of the detection of the charged particles of the hadronic system is emphasized, and comparisons are carried out between the case when lepton-only information is considered in the reconstruction (as is the case for many neutrino oscillation experiments), versus when all particles identified in the LArTPC were included. Three neutrino direction reconstruction methods have been developed and studied for the atmospheric analyses: using lepton-only information, using all reconstructed particles, and using only correlations from reconstructed hits. The results indicate that incorporating more than just lepton information significantly improves the resolution of both neutrino direction and energy reconstruction. The angle reconstruction algorithms developed in this work result in no strong dependence on particle direction for reconstruction efficiencies or neutrino flavor identification. This comprehensive review of the reconstruction of atmospheric neutrinos in DUNE's FD-HD LArTPC is the first step towards developing a first neutrino oscillation sensitivity analysis, which will ready DUNE for its first measurements.

Measurement of branching fractions and direct CPCP asymmetries for B→KπB \to Kπ and B→ππB\toππ decays at Belle II

We report measurements of the branching fractions and direct CP\it{CP} asymmetries of the decays B0→K+π−B^0 \to K^+ π^-, B+→K+π0B^+ \to K^+ π^0, B+→K0π+B^+ \to K^0 π^+, and B0→K0π0B^0 \to K^0 π^0, and use these for testing the standard model through an isospin-based sum rule. In addition, we measure the branching fraction and direct CP\it{CP} asymmetry of the decay B+→π+π0B^+ \to π^+π^0 and the branching fraction of the decay B0→π+π−B^0 \to π^+π^-. The data are collected with the Belle II detector from e+e−e^+e^- collisions at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance produced by the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy collider and contain 387×106387\times 10^6 bottom-antibottom meson pairs. Signal yields are determined in two-dimensional fits to background-discriminating variables, and range from 500 to 3900 decays, depending on the channel. We obtain −0.03±0.13±0.04-0.03 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.04 for the sum rule, in agreement with the standard model expectation of zero and with a precision comparable to the best existing determinations.

Measurement of the B0→D∗−ℓ+νℓB^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} branching ratio and ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| with a fully reconstructed accompanying BB meson in 2019-2021 Belle II data

We present a measurement of the B0→D∗−ℓ+νℓB^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} (ℓ=e,μ\ell=e,μ) branching ratio and of the CKM parameter ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| using signal decays accompanied by a fully reconstructed BB meson. The Belle II data set of electron-positron collisions at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance, corresponding to 189.3 \,fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity, is analyzed. With the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert form factor parameterization, the parameters ηEWF(1)∣Vcb∣η_{\rm EW} F(1) |V_{cb}| and ρ2ρ^{2} are extracted, where ηEWη_{\rm EW} is an electroweak correction, F(1)F(1) is a normalization factor and ρ2ρ^{2} is a form factor shape parameter. We reconstruct 516 signal decays and thereby obtain B(B0→D∗−ℓ+νℓ)=(5.27±0.22 (stat)±0.38 (syst))%\mathcal{B} (B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} ) = \left(5.27 \pm 0.22~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.38~\rm{\left(syst\right)}\right) \%, ηEWF(1)∣Vcb∣×103=34.6±1.8 (stat)±1.7 (syst)η_{EW} F(1) |V_{cb}| \times 10^{3} = 34.6 \pm 1.8~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 1.7~\rm{\left(syst\right)}, and ρ2=0.94±0.18 (stat)±0.11 (syst)ρ^{2} = 0.94 \pm 0.18~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.11~\rm{\left(syst\right)}.

Search for rare decays B+→Ds(∗)+ηB^{+} \to D_{s}^{(\ast)+}η, Ds(∗)+Kˉ0D_{s}^{(\ast)+}\bar{K}^{0}, D+ηD^{+}η, and D+K0D^{+}K^{0}

We present a study of rare decay modes B+→Ds+h0B^{+} \to D_{s}^{+}h^{0}, B+→Ds∗+h0B^{+} \to D_{s}^{\ast+}h^{0}, and B+→D+h0B^{+} \to D^{+}h^{0}, where h0h^{0} denotes the neutral mesons ηη or K0K^{0}, using a data sample of (772±10)×106(772 \pm 10 ) \times 10^{6} BBˉB\bar{B} events produced at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance. The data were collected by the Belle detector operating at the asymmetric-energy KEKB collider. We observe no evidence for these decays, so we provide upper limits at the 90%\% confidence level on the branching fractions of B+→Ds+h0B^{+} \to D_{s}^{+}h^{0}, Ds∗+h0D_{s}^{\ast+}h^{0}, and D+h0D^{+}h^{0} decay modes. Along with rare decay modes, we report improved measurements of the color-suppressed decay branching fractions B(Bˉ0→D0η)\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to D^{0}η) = (26.6 ±\pm 1.2 ±\pm 2.1) ×\times 10−510^{-5} and B(Bˉ0→D0Kˉ0)\mathcal{B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to D^{0}\bar{K}^{0}) = (5.6 ±\pm 0.5 ±\pm 0.2) ×\times 10−510^{-5}. A Strategic Approach to Advance Magnet Technology for Next Generation Colliders

Colliders are built on a foundation of superconducting magnet technology that provides strong dipole magnets to maintain the beam orbit and strong focusing magnets to enable the extraordinary luminosity required to probe physics at the energy frontier. The dipole magnet strength plays a critical role in dictating the energy reach of a collider, and the superconducting magnets are arguably the dominant cost driver for future collider facilities. As the community considers opportunities to explore new energy frontiers, the importance of advanced magnet technology - both in terms of magnet performance and in the magnet technology's potential for cost reduction - is evident, as the technology status is essential for informed decisions on targets for physics reach and facility feasibility.

An Experiment for Electron-Hadron Scattering at the LHC

Novel considerations are presented on the physics, apparatus and accelerator designs for a future, luminous, energy frontier electron-hadron (eheh) scattering experiment at the LHC in the thirties for which key physics topics and their relation to the hadron-hadron HL-LHC physics programme are discussed. Demands are derived set by these physics topics on the design of the LHeC detector, a corresponding update of which is described. Optimisations on the accelerator design, especially the interaction region (IR), are presented. Initial accelerator considerations indicate that a common IR is possible to be built which alternately could serve eheh and hhhh collisions while other experiments would stay on hhhh in either condition. A forward-backward symmetrised option of the LHeC detector is sketched which would permit extending the LHeC physics programme to also include aspects of hadron-hadron physics. The vision of a joint eheh and hhhh physics experiment is shown to open new prospects for solving fundamental problems of high energy heavy-ion physics including the partonic structure of nuclei and the emergence of hydrodynamics in quantum field theory while the genuine TeV scale DIS physics is of unprecedented rank.

An improved search for the electric dipole moment of the ττ lepton

We report a measurement of the electric dipole moment of the ττ lepton (dτd_τ) using an 833~fb−1^{-1} data sample collected near the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+ e^- collider. Using an optimal observable method, we obtain the real and imaginary parts of dτd_τ as Re(dτ)=(−0.62±0.63)×10−17 ecm{\rm Re}(d_τ) = ( -0.62 \pm 0.63 ) \times 10^{-17} ~e{\rm cm} and Im(dτ)=(−0.40±0.32)×10−17 ecm{\rm Im}(d_τ) = ( -0.40 \pm 0.32 ) \times 10^{-17} ~e{\rm cm}, respectively. These results are consistent with null electric dipole moment at the present level of experimental sensitivity and improve the sensitivity by about a factor of three.

Evidence of a new excited charmed baryon decaying to Σc(2455)0,++π±Σ_{c}(2455)^{0,++} π^{\pm}

We present the study of Bˉ0→Σc(2455)0,++π±pˉ\bar{B}^{0} \to Σ_{c}(2455)^{0,++} π^{\pm} \bar{p} decays based on 772×106772\times 10^{6} BBˉB\bar{B} events collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider. The Σc(2455)0,++Σ_{c}(2455)^{0,++} candidates are reconstructed via their decay to Λc+π∓Λ_{c}^{+} π^{\mp} and Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} decays to pK−π+, pKS0,pK^{-}π^{+},~pK_{S}^{0}, and Λπ+Λπ^{+} final states. The corresponding branching fractions are measured to be B(Bˉ0→Σc(2455)0π+pˉ)=(1.09±0.06±0.07)×10−4{\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to Σ_{c}(2455)^{0} π^{+} \bar{p}) = (1.09 \pm 0.06 \pm 0.07)\times10^{-4} and B(Bˉ0→Σc(2455)++π−pˉ)=(1.84±0.11±0.12)×10−4{\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to Σ_{c}(2455)^{++} π^{-} \bar{p}) = (1.84\pm 0.11 \pm 0.12)\times 10^{-4}, which are consistent with the world average values with improved precision. A new structure is found in the MΣc(2455)0,++π±M_{Σ_{c}(2455)^{0,++}π^{\pm}} spectrum with a significance of 4.2σ4.2σ including systematic uncertainty. The structure is possibly an excited Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} and is tentatively named Λc(2910)+Λ_{c}(2910)^{+}. Its mass and width are measured to be (2913.8±5.6±3.8)(2913.8 \pm 5.6 \pm 3.8) MeV/c2c^{2} and (51.8±20.0±18.8)(51.8\pm20.0 \pm 18.8) MeV, respectively. The products of branching fractions for the Λc(2910)+Λ_{c}(2910)^{+} are measured to be B(Bˉ0→Λc(2910)+pˉ)×B(Λc(2910)+→Σc(2455)0π+)=(9.5±3.6±1.6)×10−6{\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to Λ_{c}(2910)^{+}\bar{p})\times{\cal B}(Λ_{c}(2910)^{+} \to Σ_{c}(2455)^{0}π^{+}) = (9.5 \pm 3.6 \pm 1.6)\times 10^{-6} and B(Bˉ0→Λc(2910)+pˉ)×B(Λc(2910)+→Σc(2455)++π−)=(1.24±0.35±0.10)×10−5{\cal B}(\bar{B}^{0} \to Λ_{c} (2910)^{+}\bar{p})\times {\cal B}(Λ_{c}(2910)^{+} \to Σ_{c}(2455)^{++}π^{-}) = (1.24 \pm 0.35 \pm 0.10)\times 10^{-5}. Here, the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

First Measurement of the Λc+→pη′Λ_c^+ \to p η' decay

We present the first measurement of the branching fraction of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed (SCS) decay Λc+→pη′Λ_c^+ \to p η' with η′→ηπ+π−η' \to ηπ^+π^-, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 981 fb−1\rm fb^{-1}, collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e^{+}e−e^{-} asymmetric-energy collider. A significant Λc+Λ_c^+ signal is observed for the first time with a signal significance of 5.4σσ. The relative branching fraction with respect to the normalization mode Λc+→pK−π+Λ_c^+ \to pK^-π^+ is measured to be \begin{equation*} \frac{{\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p η')}{{\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p K^-π^+)} = (7.54 \pm 1.32 \pm 0.75) \times 10^{-3}, \end{equation*} where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Using the world-average value of B(Λc+→pK−π+)=(6.28±0.32)×10−2{\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p K^-π^+) = (6.28\pm0.32)\times10^{-2}, we obtain \begin{equation*} {\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to p η') = (4.73 \pm 0.82 \pm 0.47 \pm 0.24)\times 10^{-4}, \end{equation*} where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and from B(Λc+→pK−π+){\cal B}(Λ_c^+ \to pK^-π^+), respectively.

Machine learning assisted modeling of thermohydraulic correlations for heat exchangers with twisted tape inserts

This article presents the application of machine learning (ML) algorithms in modeling of the heat transfer correlations (e.g. Nusselt number and friction factor) for a heat exchanger with twisted tape inserts. The experimental data for the heat exchanger at different Reynolds numbers and twist ratios were used for the correlation modeling. Three machine learning algorithms: Polynomial Regression (PR), Random Forest (RF), and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) were used in the data-driven surrogate modeling. The hyperparameters of the ML models are carefully optimized to ensure generalizability. The performance parameters (e. g. R2R^2 and MSEMSE) of different ML algorithms are analyzed. It was observed that the ANN predictions of heat transfer coefficients outperform the predictions of PR and RF across different test datasets. Based on our analysis we make recommendations for future data-driven modeling efforts of heat transfer correlations and similar studies.

Measurement of the cluster position resolution of the Belle II Silicon Vertex Detector

The Silicon Vertex Detector (SVD), with its four double-sided silicon strip sensor layers, is one of the two vertex sub-detectors of Belle II operating at SuperKEKB collider (KEK, Japan). Since 2019 and the start of the data taking, the SVD has demonstrated a reliable and highly efficient operation, even running in an environment with harsh beam backgrounds that are induced by the world's highest instantaneous luminosity. In order to provide the best quality track reconstruction with an efficient pattern recognition and track fit, and to correctly propagate the uncertainty on the hit's position to the track parameters, it is crucial to precisely estimate the resolution of the cluster position measurement. Several methods for estimating the position resolution directly from the data will be discussed.

Search for Z′→μ+μ−Z^{'} \rightarrow μ^{+} μ^{-} in the Lμ−LτL_μ{-} L_τ gauge-symmetric model at Belle

For the first time, effects due to initial state radiation are used in estimating the detection efficiency. No signal is observed in the mass range of 0.212 \ -- 10 GeV/c2{\it c}^2 and we set an upper limit on the coupling strengh, g′g', constraining Z′Z' as a possible contributor to the anomalous magnetic dipole moment of muon.

Search for a light Higgs boson in single-photon decays of Υ(1S)Υ(1S) using Υ(2S)→π+π−Υ(1S)Υ(2S) \to π^+ π^- Υ(1S) tagging method

We search for a light Higgs boson (A0A^0) decaying into a τ+τ−τ^+τ^- or μ+μ−μ^+μ^- pair in the radiative decays of Υ(1S)Υ(1S). The production of Υ(1S)Υ(1S) mesons is tagged by Υ(2S)→π+π−Υ(1S)Υ(2S)\to π^+ π^- Υ(1S) transitions, using 158 million Υ(2S)Υ(2S) events accumulated with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider. No significant A0A^0 signals in the mass range from the τ+τ−τ^+τ^- or μ+μ−μ^+μ^- threshold to 9.2 GeV/c2c^2 are observed. We set the upper limits at 90\% credibility level (C.L.) on the product branching fractions for Υ(1S)→γA0Υ(1S)\to γA^0 and A0→τ+τ−A^0\to τ^+τ^- varying from 3.8×10−63.8\times10^{-6} to 1.5×10−41.5\times10^{-4}. Our results represent an approximately twofold improvement on the current world best upper limits for the Υ(1S)→γA0(→τ+τ−)Υ(1S)\to γA^0(\to τ^+τ^-) production. For A0→μ+μ−A^0\to μ^+μ^-, the upper limits on the product branching fractions for Υ(1S)→γA0Υ(1S)\to γA^0 and A0→μ+μ−A^0\to μ^+μ^- are at the same level as the world average limits, and vary from 3.1×10−73.1\times10^{-7} to 1.6×10−51.6\times10^{-5}. The upper limits at 90\% C.L. on the Yukawa coupling fΥ(1S)f_{Υ(1S)} and mixing angle sinθA0{\rm sin}θ_{A^0} are also given.

Search for charged lepton flavor violating decays of Υ(1S)Υ(1S)

We present a search for the charged lepton-flavor-violating decays Υ(1S)→ℓℓ′Υ(1S)\rightarrow\ell\ell^\prime and radiative charged lepton-flavour-violating decays Υ(1S)→γℓℓ′Υ(1S)\rightarrowγ\ell\ell^\prime [ℓ,ℓ′=e,μ,τ\ell,\ell^\prime = e, μ, τ] using the 158 million Υ(2S)Υ(2S) sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB collider. This search uses Υ(1S)Υ(1S) mesons produced in π+π−Υ(1S)π^+π^-Υ(1S) transitions. We do not find any significant signal, so we provide upper limits on the branching fractions at the 90% confidence level.

Study of B‾0→D+h−(h=K/π)\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}h^{-} (h=K/π) decays at Belle

We present a measurement of the branching fractions of the Cabibbo favored B‾0→D+π−\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}π^{-} and the Cabibbo suppressed B‾0→D+K−\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}K^{-} decays. We find B(B‾0→D+π−)=(2.48±0.01±0.09±0.04)×10−3\mathcal{B}(\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}π^{-}) = (2.48 \pm 0.01 \pm 0.09 \pm 0.04) \times 10^{-3} and B(B‾0→D+K−)=(2.03±0.05±0.07±0.03)×10−4\mathcal{B}(\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}K^{-})= (2.03 \pm 0.05 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.03) \times 10^{-4} decays, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third uncertainty is due to the D+→K−π+π+D^{+} \rightarrow K^{-}π^{+}π^{+} branching fraction. The ratio of branching fractions of B‾0→D+K−\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}K^{-} and B‾0→D+π−\overline{B}{}^0\rightarrow D^{+}π^{-} is measured to be RD=[8.19±0.20(stat)±0.23(syst)]×10−2R^{D} = [8.19 \pm 0.20(\rm stat) \pm 0.23(\rm syst)] \times 10^{-2} . The Silicon Vertex Detector of the Belle II Experiment

In 2019 the Belle II experiment started data taking at the asymmetric SuperKEKB collider (KEK, Japan) operating at the Y(4S) resonance. Belle II will search for new physics beyond the Standard Model by collecting an integrated luminosity of 50~ab−1^{-1}. The silicon vertex detector (SVD), consisting of four layers of double-sided silicon strip sensors, is one of the two vertex sub-detectors. The SVD extrapolates the tracks to the inner pixel detector (PXD) with enough precision to correctly identify hits in the PXD belonging to the track. In addition the SVD has standalone tracking capability and utilizes ionization to enhance particle identification in the low momentum region. The SVD is operating reliably and with high efficiency, despite exposure to the harsh beam background of the highest peak-luminosity collider ever built. High signal-to-noise ratio and hit efficiency have been measured, as well as the spatial resolution; all these quantities show excellent stability over time. Data-simulation agreement on cluster properties has recently been improved through a careful tuning of the simulation. The precise hit-time resolution can be exploited to reject out-of-time hits induced by beam background, which will make the SVD more robust against higher levels of background. During the first three years of running, radiation damage effects on strip noise, sensor currents and depletion voltage have been observed, as well as some coupling capacitor failure due to intense radiation bursts. None of these effects cause significant degradation in the detector performance.

Combined analysis of Belle and Belle II data to determine the CKM angle ϕ3 ϕ_{3} using B+→D(KS0h−h+)h+B^+ \to D(K_{S}^0 h^- h^+) h^+ decays

We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle angle ϕ3 ϕ_{3} (also known as~γγ) using a model-independent Dalitz plot analysis of \linebreak B+→D(KS0h+h−)h+B^+\to D\left(K_{S}^{0}h^{+}h^{-}\right)h^+, where DD is either a D0D^0 or Dˉ0\bar{D}{}^0 meson and hh is either a ππ or KK. This is the first measurement that simultaneously uses Belle and Belle~II data, combining samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of \SI{711}{fb^{-1}} and \SI{128}{fb^{-1}}, respectively. All data were accumulated from energy-asymmetric e+e−e^+e^- collisions at a centre-of-mass energy corresponding to the mass of the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance. We measure ϕ3=(78.4±11.4±0.5±1.0)∘ϕ_3 = \left(78.4 \pm 11.4 \pm 0.5 \pm 1.0 \right)^{\circ}, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is from the uncertainties on external measurements of the DD-decay strong-phase parameters.

Using the entire data sample of 980 fb−1980\mathrm{~fb}^{-1} collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider, we present measurements of the branching fractions of the Cabibbo-favored decays Ξc0→ΛKS0Ξ_c^0 \to ΛK_S^0, Ξc0→Σ0KS0Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^0 K_S^0, and Ξc0→Σ+K−Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^+ K^-. Taking the decay $Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- \pip$ as the normalization mode, we measure the branching fraction ratio B(Ξc0→ΛKS0)/B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+)=0.229±0.008±0.012{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to ΛK_S^0)/{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- π^+) = 0.229\pm0.008\pm0.012 with improved precision, and measure the branching fraction ratios B(Ξc0→Σ0KS0)/B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+)=0.038±0.006±0.004{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^0 K_S^0)/{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- π^+) = 0.038\pm0.006\pm0.004 and B(Ξc0→Σ+K−)/B(Ξc0→Ξ−π+)=0.123±0.007±0.010{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^+ K^-)/{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- π^+) = 0.123\pm0.007\pm0.010 for the first time. Taking into account the branching fraction of the normalization mode, the absolute branching fractions are determined to be B(Ξc0→ΛKS0)=(3.27±0.11±0.17±0.73)×10−3{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to ΛK_S^0) = (3.27\pm0.11\pm0.17\pm0.73) \times 10^{-3}, B(Ξc0→Σ0KS0)=(0.54±0.09±0.06±0.12)×10−3{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^0 K_S^0) = (0.54\pm 0.09\pm 0.06\pm 0.12) \times 10^{-3}, and B(Ξc0→Σ+K−)=(1.76±0.10±0.14±0.39)×10−3{\cal B}(Ξ_c^0 \to Σ^+ K^-) = (1.76\pm 0.10\pm0.14\pm 0.39) \times 10^{-3}. The first and second uncertainties above are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third ones arise from the uncertainty of the branching fraction of Ξc0→Ξ−π+Ξ_c^0 \to Ξ^- π^+.

A calibration of the Belle II hadronic tag-side reconstruction algorithm with B→XℓνB \rightarrow X\ell ν decays

Tag-side reconstruction is an important method for reconstructing BB meson decays with missing energy. The Belle II tag-side reconstruction algorithm, Full Event Interpretation, relies on a hierarchical reconstruction of BB meson decays with multivariate classification employed at each stage of reconstruction. Given the large numbers of classifiers employed and decay chains reconstructed, the performance of the algorithm on data and simulation differs significantly. Here, calibration factors are derived for hadronic tag-side BB decays by measuring a signal side decay, B→XℓνB \rightarrow X\ell ν, in 34.634.6 fb−1^{-1} of Belle II data. For a very loose selection on the tag-side BB multivariate classifier, the calibration factors are 0.65±0.020.65 \pm 0.02 and 0.83±0.030.83 \pm 0.03 for tag-side B+B^{+} and B0B^{0} mesons, respectively.

Charmless BB decay reconstruction in 2019 Belle II data

We report on the reconstruction of various charmless BB decays from electron-positron collisions at the energy corresponding to the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We use simulation to devise optimized event selections and apply them to the full data set collected in 2019, corresponding to 8.7\,fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. We fit the difference between half of the collision energy and the BB candidate energy (in the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) frame) for events restricted to a signal-rich range in beam-energy-constrained mass to search for charmless signals. Signal yields of approximately 80, 15, 20, 30, 90, and 160 decays are reconstructed for the channels B0→K+π−B^0 \to K^+π^-, B0→π+π−B^0 \to π^+π^-, B+→KS0(→π+π−)π+B^+ \to K^0_S(\to π^+π^-)π^+, B+→K+π0(→γγ)B^+ \to K^+π^0(\to γγ), B+→K+K−K+B^+ \to K^+K^-K^+, and B+→K+π−π+B^+ \to K^+π^-π^+, respectively. Yields and background contaminations are compatible with those expected from simulation and comparable with those obtained by the Belle experiment. The results show a good understanding of the detector performance and offer a reliable basis to assess projections for future reach.

First flavor tagging calibration using 2019 Belle II data

We report on the first calibration of the standard Belle II BB-flavor tagger using the full data set collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4{\rm S}) resonance in 2019 with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider, corresponding to 8.7 fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. The calibration is performed by reconstructing various hadronic charmed BB-meson decays with flavor-specific final states. We use simulation to optimize our event selection criteria and to train the flavor tagging algorithm. We determine the tagging efficiency and the fraction of wrongly identified tag-side BB~candidates from a measurement of the time-integrated B0−B‾0B^0-\overline{B}^0 mixing probability. The total effective efficiency is measured to be εeff=(33.8±3.6(stat)±1.6(sys))%\varepsilon_{\rm eff} = \big(33.8 \pm 3.6(\text{stat}) \pm 1.6(\text{sys})\big)\%, which is in good agreement with the predictions from simulation and comparable with the best one obtained by the Belle experiment. The results show a good understanding of the detector performance and offer a basis for future calibrations.

Fractional statistics in anyon collisions

Two-dimensional systems can host exotic particles called anyons whose quantum statistics are neither bosonic nor fermionic. For example, the elementary excitations of the fractional quantum Hall effect at filling factor ν=1/mν=1/m (where m is an odd integer) have been predicted to obey abelian fractional statistics, with a phase φφ associated with the exchange of two particles equal to π/mπ/m. However, despite numerous experimental attempts, clear signatures of fractional statistics remain elusive. Here we experimentally demonstrate abelian fractional statistics at filling factor ν=1/3ν=1/3 by measuring the current correlations resulting from the collision between anyons at a beam-splitter. By analyzing their dependence on the anyon current impinging on the splitter and comparing with recent theoretical models, we extract φ=π/3φ=π/3, in agreement with predictions.

Measurement of Hadronic Mass Moments ⟨MXn⟩\langle M_X^n \rangle in B→XcℓνB \rightarrow X_c \ell ν Decays at Belle II

We present measurements of the first six hadronic mass moments in semileptonic B→XcℓνB \rightarrow X_c \ell ν decays. The hadronic mass moments, together with other observables of inclusive BB decays, can be used to determine the CKM matrix element ∣Vcb∣|{V_{cb}}| and mass of the bb-quark mbm_b in the context of Heavy Quark Expansions of QCD. The Belle~II data recorded at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance in 2019 and 2020 (March-July), corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 34.6  fb−134.6\;\mathrm{fb}^{-1}, is used for this measurement. The decay Υ(4S)→BB‾Υ(4S) \rightarrow B \overline{B} is reconstructed by applying the hadronic tagging algorithm provided by the Full Event Interpretation to fully reconstruct one BB meson. The second BB meson is reconstructed inclusively by selecting a high-momentum lepton. The XcX_c system is identified by the remaining reconstructed tracks and clusters in the electromagnetic calorimeter. We report preliminary results for the hadronic mass moments ⟨MXn⟩\langle M_X^n \rangle with n=1,…,6n=1,\dots,6, measured as a function of a lower cut on the lepton momentum in the signal BB rest frame.

Measurement of the B0B^0 lifetime using fully reconstructed hadronic decays in the 2019 Belle II dataset

This document presents the measurement of B0B^0 meson lifetimes using the 2019 Belle II dataset that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 8.7±0.28.7 \pm 0.2 fb−1^{-1}. B0B^0 lifetime is extracted from an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the distribution of the difference between the signal side B0B^0 candidate and the tag side decay times. The measured lifetime is τB0=1.48±0.28±0.06τ_{B^0} = 1.48 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.06 ps, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

Measurements of branching fractions and CP-violating charge asymmetries in charmless BB decays reconstructed in 2019--2020 Belle~II data

We report on first measurements of branching fractions~(B\mathcal{B}) and CP-violating charge asymmetries~(A\mathcal{A}) in charmless BB decays at Belle~II. We use a sample of electron-positron collisions collected in 2019 and 2020 at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance and corresponding to 34.634.6\,fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. We use simulation to determine optimized event selections. The ΔEΔE distributions of the resulting samples, restricted in MbcM_{\rm bc}, are fit to determine signal yields. Signal yields are corrected for efficiencies determined from simulation and control data samples to obtain branching fractions and CP-violating asymmetries for flavour-specific channels. These are the first measurements in charmless decays reported by Belle~II. Results are compatible with known determinations and show detector performance comparable with the best Belle results offering a reliable basis to assess projections for future reach.

Quantum tomography of electrical currents

In quantum nanoelectronics, time-dependent electrical currents are built from few elementary excitations emitted with well-defined wavefunctions. However, despite the realization of sources generating quantized numbers of excitations, and despite the development of the theoretical framework of time-dependent quantum electronics, extracting electron and hole wavefunctions from electrical currents has so far remained out of reach, both at the theoretical and experimental levels. In this work, we demonstrate a quantum tomography protocol which extracts the generated electron and hole wavefunctions and their emission probabilities from any electrical current. It combines two-particle interferometry with signal processing. Using our technique, we extract the wavefunctions generated by trains of Lorentzian pulses carrying one or two electrons. By demonstrating the synthesis and complete characterization of electronic wavefunctions in conductors, this work offers perspectives for quantum information processing with electrical currents and for investigating basic quantum physics in many-body systems.

Search for an invisibly decaying Z′Z^{\prime} boson at Belle II in e+e−→μ+μ−(e±μ∓)e^+ e^- \to μ^+ μ^- (e^{\pm} μ^{\mp}) plus missing energy final states

Theories beyond the standard model often predict the existence of an additional neutral boson, the Z′Z^{\prime}. Using data collected by the Belle II experiment during 2018 at the SuperKEKB collider, we perform the first searches for the invisible decay of a Z′Z^{\prime} in the process e+e−→μ+μ−Z′e^+ e^- \to μ^+ μ^- Z^{\prime} and of a lepton-flavor-violating Z′Z^{\prime} in e+e−→e±μ∓Z′e^+ e^- \to e^{\pm} μ^{\mp} Z^{\prime}. We do not find any excess of events and set 90\% credibility level upper limits on the cross sections of these processes. We translate the former, in the framework of an Lμ−LτL_μ-L_τ theory, into upper limits on the Z′Z^{\prime} coupling constant at the level of 5×10−25 \times 10^{-2} -- 11 MZ′≤6M_{Z^\prime}\leq 6 GeV/c2c^2.

Search for the Decay Bs0→η′ηB_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η

In the Standard Model (SM) charmless hadronic decays Bs0→η′ηB_s^0 \rightarrow η^\prime η proceed via tree-level b→ub\to u and penguin b→sb\to s transitions. Penguin transitions are sensitive to Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics scenarios and could affect the branching fractions and {\it CP} asymmetries in such decays. Once branching fractions for two-body decays Bs→ηη,ηη′,η′η′B_s \to ηη, ηη^{\prime}, η^{\prime}η^{\prime} are measured, and the theoretical uncertainties are reduced, it would be possible to extract {\it CP} violating parameters from the data using the formalism based on SU(3)/U(3) symmetry. To achieve this goal, at least four of these six branching fractions need to be measured. Only the branching fraction for Bs0→η′η′B_s^0 \to η^{\prime}η^{\prime} has been measured so far.

We report measurements of the Bˉ0→D∗+ℓ−νˉl\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} \ell^{-} \barν_l and B−→D0ℓ−νˉlB^- \to D^{0} \ell^{-} \barν_l processes using 34.6 fb−1^{-1} of collision events recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+ e^- collider. For the B−→D0ℓ−νˉℓB^-\to D^{0}\ell^-\barν_\ell channel, we present first studies that isolate this decay from other semileptonic processes and backgrounds. We report a measurement of the Bˉ0→D∗+ℓ−νˉl\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} \ell^{-} \barν_l branching fraction and obtain B(Bˉ0→D∗+ℓ−νˉl)=(4.60±0.05stat±0.17syst±0.45πs)%{\cal B}(\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} \ell^{-} \barν_l) = \left(4.60 \pm 0.05_{\mathrm{stat}}\pm0.17_{\mathrm{syst}} \pm 0.45_{π_s}\right) \%, in agreement with the world average. Here, the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and related to slow pion reconstruction, respectively. The systematic uncertainties are limited by the statistics of auxiliary measurements and will improve in the future. We also report differential branching fractions in five bins of the hadronic recoil parameter ww for Bˉ0→D∗+ℓ−νˉl\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} \ell^{-} \barν_l, unfolded to account for resolution and efficiency effects.

Study of Bs0→l+l−γ B_s^0\rightarrow l^+ l^-γ decays in the nonuniversal Z' model

We investigate Bs0→l+l−γ B_s^0\rightarrow l^+ l^-γ decays in a nonuniversal Z' model derived from extension of the standard model (SM). Considering the Z'-mediated flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) effects we calculate the branching ratio and forwardbackward asymmetry for Bs0→l+l−γ B_s^0\rightarrow l^+ l^-γ decay processes. We compare the obtained results with predictions of the SM and discuss the sensitivity of the observables to Z' boson coupling parameters. We find the branching ratios are enhanced by one order from SM predictions in Z' model scenario. We also observe the variation of forward-backward asymmetry with the Z' boson coupling parameters portrait discrimination between NP effects and SM results.

Measurement of the integrated luminosity of the Phase 2 data of the Belle II experiment

From April to July 2018, a data sample at the peak energy of the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance was collected with the Belle~II detector at the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider. This is the first data sample of the Belle~II experiment. Using Bhabha and digamma events, we measure the integrated luminosity of the data sample to be (496.3±0.3±3.0496.3 \pm 0.3 \pm 3.0)~pb−1^{-1}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This work provides a basis for future luminosity measurements at Belle~II.

Ultrafast Spectroscopy of Bi2Se3 Topological Insulator

We investigate the ultrafast transient absorption spectrum of Bi2Se3 topological insulator. Bi2Se3 single crystal is grown through conventional solid-state reaction routevia self-flux method. The structural properties have been studied in terms of high-resolution Powder X-ray Diffraction (PXRD). Detailed Rietveld analysis of PXRD of the crystal showed that sample is crystallized in the rhombohedral crystal structure with a space group of R-3m, and the lattice parameters are a=b=4.14A and c=28.7010A. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) result shows perfectly crystalline structure with layered type morphology which evidenced from surface XRD. Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) analysis determined quantitative amounts of the constituent atoms, found to be very close to their stoichiometric ratio. Further the fluence dependent nonlinear behaviour is studied by means of ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy. The ultrafast spectroscopy also predicts the capability of this single crystal to generate Terahertz (THz) radiations (T-rays).

Effect of Co doping and hydrostatic pressure on SrFe2As2

We report a pressure study on electron doped SrFe2−x_{2-x}Cox_xAs2_2 by electrical-resistivity (ρρ) and magnetic-susceptibility (χχ) experiments. Application of either external pressure or Co substitution rapidly suppresses the spin-density wave ordering of the Fe moments and induces superconductivity in SrFe2_2As2_2. At x=0.2x=0.2 the broad superconducting (SC) dome in the T−pT-p phase diagram exhibits its maximum Tc,max=20T_{c,{\rm max}}=20 K at a pressure of only pmax≈0.75p_{\rm max}\approx 0.75 GPa. In SrFe1.5_{1.5}Co0.5_{0.5}As2_2 no superconductivity is observed anymore up to 2.8 GPa. Upon increasing the Co concentration the maximum of the SC dome shifts toward lower pressure accompanied by a decrease in the value of Tc,maxT_{c,{\rm max}}. Even though, superconductivity is induced by both tuning methods, Co substitution leads to a much more robust SC state. Our study evidences that in SrFe2−x_{2-x}Cox_xAs2_2 both, the effect of pressure and Co-substitution, have to be considered in order to understand the SC phase-diagram and further attests the close relationship of SrFe2_2As2_2 and its sister compound BaFe2_2As2_2.

Superconducting properties of K1−x_{1-x}Nax_xFe2_2As2_2 under pressure

The effect of hydrostatic pressure and partial Na substitution on the normal-state properties and the superconducting transition temperature (TcT_c) of K1−x_{1-x}Nax_xFe2_2As2_2 single crystals were investigated. It was found that a partial Na substitution leads to a deviation from the standard T2T^2 Fermi-liquid behavior in the temperature dependence of the normal-state resistivity. It was demonstrated that non-Fermi liquid like behavior of the resistivity for K1−x_{1-x}Nax_{x}Fe2_2As2_2 and some KFe2_2As2_2 samples can be explained by disorder effect in the multiband system with rather different quasiparticle effective masses. Concerning the superconducting state our data support the presence of a shallow minimum around 2 GPa in the pressure dependence of TcT_c for stoichiometric KFe2_2As2_2. The analysis of TcT_c in the K1−x_{1-x}Nax_{x}Fe2_2As2_2 at pressures below 1.5 GPa showed, that the reduction of TcT_c with Na substitution follows the Abrikosov-Gor'kov law with the critical temperature Tc0T_{c0} of the clean system (without pair-breaking) which linearly depends on the pressure. Our observations, also, suggest that TcT_c of K1−x_{1-x}Nax_xFe2_2As2_2 is nearly independent of the lattice compression produced by the Na substitution. Further, we theoretically analyzed the behavior of the band structure under pressure within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA). A qualitative agreement between the calculated and the recently in de Haas-van Alphen experiments [T. Terashima et al., Phys.Rev.B89, 134520(2014)] measured pressure dependencies of the Fermi-surface cross-sections has been found. These calculations, also, indicate that the observed minimum around 2~GPa in the pressure dependence of TcT_c may occur without a change of the pairing symmetry.

Effect of both Z and Z^prime - mediated flavor-changing neutral currents on BsB_s decays into tau+tau−tau^+tau^-

In recent years, BsB_s decays into tau+tau−tau^+tau^- has attracted a lot of attention since it is very sensitive to the structure of standard model (SM) and potential source of new physics beyond SM. In this paper, we study the effect of both Z and -mediated flavor-changing neutral currents on the BsB_s decays into tau+tau−tau^+tau^-. We find the branching ratio of BsB_s decays into tau+tau−tau^+tau^- is enhanced relative to SM prediction, which would help to explain the recent observed CP-violation from like-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in the B system.

Evidence of d-wave Superconductivity in K_(1-x)Na_xFe_2As_2 (x = 0, 0.1) Single Crystals from Low-Temperature Specific Heat Measurements

From the measurement and analysis of the specific heat of high-quality K_(1-x)Na_xFe_2As_2 single crystals we establish the presence of large T^2 contributions with coefficients alpha_sc ~ 30 mJ/mol K^3 at low-T for both x=0 and 0.1. Together with the observed square root field behavior of the specific heat in the superconducting state both findings evidence d-wave superconductivity on almost all Fermi surface sheets with an average gap amplitude of Delta_0 in the range of 0.4 - 0.8 meV. The derived Delta_0 and the observed T_c agree well with the values calculated within the Eliashberg theory, adopting a spin-fluctuation mediated pairing in the intermediate coupling regime.

Spin-flop and antiferromagnetic phases of the ferromagnetic half-twist ladder compounds Ba3Cu3In4O12 and Ba3Cu3Sc4O12

The title compounds have dominant ferromagnetic (FM) exchange interactions within one-dimensional (1D) half-twist ladders of s =1/2 Cu2^{+} ions and antiferromagnetic(AFM) interactions between ladders, leading to ordered 3D phases at temperatures below 20K. Here we show that a microscopic 1D model of the paramagnetic (PM) phase combined with a phenomenological model based on sublattice magnetization describes the observed temperature and field dependent magnetism. The model identifies AFM, spin-flop (SF) and PM phases whose boundaries have sharp features in the experimental magnetization M(T,H) and specific heat CP(T,H). Exact diagonalization (ED) of the 1D model, possible for 24 spins due to special structural features of half-twist ladders, yields the magnetization and spin susceptibility of the PM phase. AFM interactions between ladders are included at the mean-field level using the field, HAF, obtained from modeling the ordered phases. Isotropic exchange J1 = -135K and g-tensor g = 2.1 within ladders, plus exchange and anisotropy fields HAF and HA, describe the ordered phases, and are almost quantitative for the PM phase.

The effect of z^prime boson on same-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in bq0−barbq0 b_q^0 - bar b_q^0 system

The recent observation of the same-sign dimuon charge asymmetry in the B system by the D0 collaboration has 3.9 sigma deviation from the standard model prediction. However, the recent LHCb data on B-s neutral-meson mixing do not accommodate the D0 collaboration result. In this paper, considering the effect of Z'-mediated flavour-changing neutral currents in the Bq0−barBq0 B_q^0 - bar B_q^0 (q = d, s) mixing, the same-sign dimuon charge asymmetry is calculated. We find the same-sign dimuon charge asymmetry is enhanced from its SM prediction and provides signals for new physics beyond the SM

Dominant ferromagnetism in the spin-1/2 half-twist ladder 334 compounds, Ba3Cu3In4O12 and Ba3Cu3Sc4O12

The magnetic properties of polycrystalline samples of Ba3Cu3In4O12 (In-334) and Ba3Cu3Sc4O12 (Sc-334) are reported. Both 334 phases have a structure derived from perovskite, with CuO4 squares interconnected to form half-twist ladders along the c-axis. The Cu-O-Cu angles, ~ 90o, and the positive Weiss temperatures indicate the presence of significant ferromagnetic (FM) interactions along the Cu ladders. At low temperatures, T < 20 K, sharp transitions in the magnetic susceptibility and heat capacity measurements indicate three-dimensional (3D) antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering at TN. TN is suppressed on application of a field and a complex magnetic phase diagram with three distinct magnetic regimes below the upper critical field can be inferred from our measurements. The magnetic interactions are discussed in relation to a modified spin-1/2 FM-AFM model and the 334 half-twist ladder is compared to other 2-rung ladder spin-1/2 systems.

Hole-doping in BaFe2_2As2_2: The case of Ba1−x_{1-x}Nax_xFe2_2As2_2 single crystals

Single crystals of Ba1−x_{1-x}Nax_xFe2_2As2_2 with xx = 0, 0.25, 0.35, 0.4 were grown using a self-flux high temperature solution growth technique. The superconducting and normal state properties were studied by temperature dependent magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity and specific heat revealing that the magnetic and structural transition is rapidly suppressed upon Na-substitution at the Ba-site in BaFe2_2As2_2, giving rise to superconductivity. A superconducting transition as high as 34 K is reached for a Na-content of xx=0.4. The positive Hall coefficient confirms that the substitution of Ba by Na results in hole-doping similarly to the substitution of Ba by K. Angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy was performed on all Ba1−x_{1-x}Nax_xFe2_2As2_2 crystals. The Fermi surface of hole-doped Ba1−x_{1-x}Nax_xFe2_2As2_2 is to high extent the same as the Fermi surface found for the K-doped sister compounds, suggesting a similar impact of the substitution of Ba by either K or Na on the electronic band dispersion at the Fermi level

KFe2As2: coexistence of superconductivity and local moment derived spin-glass

High-quality KFe2As2 single crystals have been studied by transport, magnetization and low-T specific heat measurements. Their analysis shows that superconductivity occurs (in some cases coexists) in the vicinity of disordered magnetic phases (Griffiths and spin-glass type) depending of the amount of local magnetic moments (probably excess Fe derived)and sample inhomogeneity. The achieved phenomenological description of our data including also data from the literature provides a consistent explanation of the observed non-Fermi-liquid behavior and of the nominally large experimental Sommerfeld coefficient gamma_n about 94 mJ/mol K^2. We suggest that the intrinsic value (directly related to the itinerant quasi-particles) gamma_el about 60(10)mJ/mol K^2 is significantly reduced compared with gamma_n. Then an enhanced relative jump of the electronic specific heat Delta C_el/gamma_el T_c about 0.8 and a weak total electron-boson coupling constant lambda less or about 1 follow.

Quantum spin liquid in frustrated one dimensional LiCuSbO4

A quantum magnet, LiCuSbO4, with chains of edge-sharing S = 1/2 CuO6 octahedra is reported. While the Curie-Weiss constant is ferromagnetic, θ= 30 K, no phase transition or spin freezing occurs down to 100 mK. Specific heat indicates a distinct high field phase near the 12 T saturation field. Neutron scattering shows incommensurate spin correlations with q = 0.47\pm0.01π/a and places an upper limit of 70 \mueV on a potential spin gap. Exact diagonalization of easy plane S = 1/2 chains with competing ferro- and antiferromagnetic interactions (J1 = - 75 K, J2 = 34 K) accounts for the T > 2 K data.

Time interval and lattice vibration in Raman effect, photoelectric effect and plane mirror reflection

Time interval between the incident and scattered photon in Raman effect and absorption of photon and emission of electron in photoelectric effect has not been determined till now. This is because there is no such high level instrument discovered till now to detect time interval to such a small level. But this can be calculated theoretically by applying a basic principle of physics like impulse is equal to the change in momentum. Considering the collision between electron and photon as perfect inelastic collision in photoelectric effect, elastic and inelastic collision in Raman effect and elastic collision in plane mirror reflection and the interaction between electron and photon as strong gravitational interaction we calculate the required time interval. During these phenomena there is lattice vibration which can be quantized as phonon particles.

1:1 alkali-TCNQ salts and the bond order wave (BOW) phase of half-filled linear Hubbard-type models

The bond order wave (BOW) phase of half-filled linear Hubbard-type models is narrow and difficult to characterize aside from a few ground state properties. The BOW phase of a frustrated Heisenberg spin chain is wide and tractable. It has broken inversion symmetry C_i in a regular array and finite gap E_m to the lowest triplet state. The spin-BOW is exact in finite systems at a special point. Its elementary excitations are spin-1/2 solitons that connect BOWs with opposite phase. The same patterns of spin densities and bond orders appear in the BOW phase of Hubbard-type models. Infrared (IR) active lattice phonons or molecular vibrations are derivatives of P, the polarization along the stack. Molecular vibrations that are forbidden in regular arrays become IR active when C_i symmetry is broken. 1:1 alkali-TCNQ salts contain half-filled regular TCNQ- stacks at high temperature, down to 100 K in the Rb-TCNQ(II) polymorph whose magnetic susceptibility and polarized IR spectra indicate a BOW phase. More complete modeling will require explicit electronic coupling to phonons and molecular vibrations.

A Framework for Validation of Object Oriented Design Metrics

A large number of metrics have been proposed for the quality of object oriented software. Many of these metrics have not been properly validated due to poor methods of validation and non acceptance of metrics on scientific grounds. In the literature, two types of validations namely internal (theoretical) and external (empirical) are recommended. In this study, the authors have used both theoretical as well as empirical validation for validating already proposed set of metrics for the five quality factors. These metrics were proposed by Kumar and Soni.

A Methodology for Empirical Quality Assessment of Object-Oriented Design

The direct measurement of quality is difficult because there is no way we can measure quality factors. For measuring these factors, we have to express them in terms of metrics or models. Researchers have developed quality models that attempt to measure quality in terms of attributes, characteristics and metrics. In this work we have proposed the methodology of controlled experimentation coupled with power of Logical Scoring of Preferences to evaluate global quality of four object-oriented designs.

Competition of local-moment ferromagnetism and superconductivity in Co-substituted EuFe2As2

In contrast to SrFe2As2, where only the iron possesses a magnetic moment, in EuFe2As2 an additional large, local magnetic moment is carried by Eu2+. Like SrFe2As2, EuFe2As2 exhibits a spin-density wave transition at high temperatures, but in addition the magnetic moments of the Eu2+ order at around 20 K. The interplay of pressure-induced superconductivity and the Eu2+ order leads to a behavior which is reminiscent of re-entrant superconductivity as it was observed, for example, in the ternary Chevrel phases or in the rare-earth nickel borocarbides. Here, we study the delicate interplay of the ordering of the Eu2+ moments and superconductivity in EuFe1.9Co0.1As2, where application of external pressure makes it possible to sensitively tune the ratio of the magnetic (T_C) and the superconducting (T_{c,onset}) critical temperatures. We find that superconductivity disappears once T_C > T_{c,onset}.
