Amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of J/ψ→ΛΣˉ0η+c.cJ/ψ\to Λ\barΣ^0η+\mathrm{c.c}

Based on a sample of (10087±44)×106(10087\pm44)\times10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, a partial-wave analysis of J/ψ→ΛΣˉ0η+c.c J/ψ\to Λ\bar{ Σ}^0η+\mathrm{c.c} is performed for the first time. The dominant contributions are found to be excited ΛΛ states with JP=1/2−J^P=1/2^- and JP=1/2+J^P=1/2^+ in the ηΛηΛ mass spectra. The measured masses and widths are M=1668.8±3.1±21.2M=1668.8\pm3.1\pm21.2 MeV/c2c^2 and Γ=52.7±4.2±17.8Γ=52.7\pm4.2\pm17.8 MeV for the Λ(1670)Λ(1670), and M=1881.5±16.5±20.3M=1881.5\pm16.5\pm20.3 MeV/c2c^2 and Γ=82.4±18.2±8.9Γ=82.4\pm18.2\pm8.9 MeV for the Λ(1810)Λ(1810), respectively. The branching fraction is determined to be B(J/ψ→ΛΣˉ0η+c.c) \mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to Λ\bar{ Σ}^0η+\mathrm{c.c}) = (3.44±0.11±0.13)×10−5(3.44 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.13) \times 10^{-5}. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

Cross section measurement of e+e−→π0π0ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{0}π^{0}ψ(3686) from s=\sqrt{s}= 4.008 GeV to 4.951 GeV

Using data samples with a total integrated luminosity of 22.1 fb−122.1~\rm fb^{-1} at center-of-mass energies between 4.008 and 4.951~GeV collected with the BESIII detector, the cross sections of e+e−→π0π0ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{0}π^{0}ψ(3686) process are measured. The obtained cross sections are found to be approximately one-half of those of e+e−→π+π−ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3686), consistent with the isospin symmetry expectation. A coherent fit to the dressed cross sections is performed, with the Y(4230)Y(4230)~parameters fixed at the values measured in e+e−→π+π−ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3686). The significances of the Y(4390)Y(4390) and Y(4660)Y(4660) are both larger than 5σ5σ, and their masses and widths are consistent with the previous measurement in the e+e−→π+π−ψ(3686)e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}ψ(3686) process.

First Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fraction of ηc→γγη_c \to γγ

We apply a tag-and-probe method to precisely measure the absolute branching fraction of the decay ηc→γγη_c \to γγ with the BESIII experiment at BEPCII. Starting with a large initial sample of 2712.4±14.32712.4\pm 14.3 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events, a sample of 0.16 million ηcη_c events are tagged via the golden channel ψ(3686)→π0hcψ(3686)\to π^0 h_c, hc→γηch_c\to γη_c, effectively avoiding interference effects. The absolute branching fraction of ηc→γγη_c \to γγ is measured for the first time to be B(ηc→γγ)=(2.45±0.48stat.±0.09syst.)×10−4\mathcal{B}(η_c \to γγ) = (2.45 \pm 0.48_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.09_{\rm syst.}) \times 10^{-4}. Using the world average value of the total width of the ηcη_c, the partial decay width of ηc→γγη_c \to γγ is calculated to be Γ(ηc→γγ)=(7.48±1.48stat.±0.30syst.) keVΓ(η_c \to γγ) = (7.48 \pm 1.48_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.30_{\rm syst.})~{\rm keV}.

First Observation of D0(+)→Kˉωe+νeD^{0(+)}\to \bar Kωe^+ν_e and Determination of the Branching Fraction of Kˉ1(1270)→Kˉω\bar K_1(1270)\to \bar K ω

Using 20.3~fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector, we report the first observation of the semileptonic decays D0→K−ωe+νeD^0\to K^-ωe^+ν_e and D+→KS0ωe+νeD^+\to K_S^0ωe^+ν_e with significances of 8.0σ8.0σ and 5.8σ5.8σ, respectively, including systematic uncertainties. Their decay branching fractions are measured to be B(D0→K−ωe+νe)=(9.3−1.9+2.1±0.7)×10−5{\cal B}(D^0\to K^-ωe^+ν_e)=(9.3^{+2.1}_{-1.9}\pm 0.7)\times10^{-5} and B(D+→KS0ωe+νe)=(6.6−1.8+2.0±0.6)×10−5{\cal B}(D^+\to K_S^0ωe^+ν_e)=(6.6^{+2.0}_{-1.8}\pm 0.6)\times10^{-5}. Combining with the latest measurements of D0(+)→K−π+π−(0)e+νeD^{0(+)}\to K^-π^+π^{-(0)} e^+ν_e and assuming Kˉ1(1270)\bar{K}_1(1270) to be the sole mediating resonance in all processes, the branching ratios are determined to be Γ(K1(1270)−→K−π+π−)Γ(K1(1270)−→K−ω)=3.4−0.7+0.8±0.3\frac{Γ(K_1(1270)^-\to K^-π^+π^-)}{Γ(K_1(1270)^-\to K^-ω)} = 3.4^{+0.8}_{-0.7} \pm 0.3 and Γ(Kˉ1(1270)0→K−π+π0)Γ(Kˉ1(1270)0→Kˉ0ω)=9.6−2.7+3.0±0.8\frac{Γ(\bar{K}_1(1270)^0\to K^-π^+π^0)}{Γ(\bar{K}_1(1270)^0\to \bar{K}^0ω)} = 9.6^{+3.0}_{-2.7} \pm 0.8. The combined branching fraction is determined to be B(Kˉ1(1270)→Kˉω)=(7.5±1.3±0.5)%\mathcal B(\bar{K}_1(1270)\to \bar{K}ω) = (7.5\pm 1.3 \pm 0.5)\%, which is the most precise measurement from a collider experiment. The first uncertainties are statistical, and the second are systematic.

Measurements of the absolute branching fractions of the Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} hadronic decays

Based on 4.5 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collision data collected at center-of-mass energies between 4599.53 MeV and 4698.82 MeV with the BESIII detector, the absolute branching fractions of twelve Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} hadronic decay modes are measured with a double-tag technique. A global least-square fit is implemented simultaneously among different decay modes at different energy points. This paper gives the most precise results on the branching fractions of different decay modes to date, with precision improved by a factor of 2 to 3. Among them, the branching fraction of Λc+→pK−π+Λ_{c}^{+}\to pK^{-}π^+ is determined to be (6.61±0.11±0.12)%(6.61\pm0.11\pm0.12)\%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition, the e+e−→Λc+Λˉc−e^+e^-\toΛ_c^+\barΛ_c^- Born cross sections and the effective form factors (∣Geff∣|G_{\rm eff}|) at different energy points have been determined with the highest precision to date.

Sub-Ensemble Correlations as a Covariance Geometry

Conventional practice of spatially resolved detection in diffusion-coupled thermal atomic vapors implicitly treat localized responses as mutually independent. However, in this study, it is shown that observable correlations are governed by the intrinsic spatiotemporal covariance of a global spin-fluctuation field, such that spatial separation specifies only overlapping statistical projections rather than independent physical components. A unified field-theoretic description is established in which sub-ensembles are defined as measurement-induced statistical projections of a single stochastic field. Within this formulation, sub-ensemble correlations are determined by the covariance operator, inducing a natural geometry in which statistical independence corresponds to orthogonality of the measurement functionals. For collective spin fluctuations described by a diffusion-relaxation Ornstein-Uhlenbeck stochastic field, the covariance spectrum admits only a finite set of fluctuation modes in a bounded domain, imposing an intrinsic, field-level limit on the number of statistically distinguishable sub-ensembles. The loss of sub-ensemble independence is formalized through the notion of spatial sampling overlap, which quantifies the unavoidable statistical coupling arising from shared access to common low-order fluctuation modes. While multi-channel atomic magnetometry provides a concrete physical setting in which these constraints become explicit, the framework applies generically to diffusion-coupled stochastic fields.

Investigation of the ΔI=1/2ΔI = 1/2 rule and test of CP violation through the measurement of decay asymmetry parameters in Ξ−Ξ^- decays

Using (10087±44)×106(10087\pm44)\times 10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, numerous Ξ−Ξ^- and ΛΛ decay asymmetry parameters are simultaneously determined from the process J/ψ→Ξ−Ξˉ+→Λ(pπ−)π−Λˉ(nˉπ0)π+J/ψ\to Ξ^- \barΞ^+ \to Λ(pπ^-) π^- \barΛ(\bar{n} π^0) π^+ and its charge-conjugate channel. The precisions of α0α_0 for Λ→nπ0Λ\to nπ^0 and αˉ0\barα_0 for Λˉ→nˉπ0\barΛ \to \bar{n}π^0 compared to world averages are improved by factors of 4 and 1.7, respectively. The ratio of decay asymmetry parameters of Λ→nπ0Λ\to nπ^0 to that of Λ→pπ−Λ\to pπ^-, ⟨α0⟩/⟨αΛ−⟩\langle α_0 \rangle/ \langle α_{Λ-} \rangle , is determined to be 0.873±0.012−0.010+0.011 0.873 \pm 0.012^{+0.011}_{-0.010}, where the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The ratio is smaller than unity more than 5σ5σ, which signifies the existence of the ΔI=3/2ΔI = 3/2 transition in ΛΛ for the first time. Beside, we test for CP violation in Ξ−→Λπ−Ξ^- \to Λπ^- and in Λ→nπ0Λ\to n π^{0} with the best precision to date.

Search for hidden-charm tetraquark with strangeness in e+e−→K+Ds∗−D∗0+c.c.e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow K^+ D_{s}^{*-} D^{*0}+c.c.

We report a search for a heavier partner of the recently observed Zcs(3985)−Z_{cs}(3985)^{-} state, denoted as Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -}, in the process e+e−→K+Ds∗−D∗0+c.c.e^{+} e^{-}\rightarrow K^{+}D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0}+c.c., based on e+e−e^+e^- collision data collected at the center-of-mass energies of s=4.661\sqrt{s}=4.661, 4.682 and 4.699 GeV with the BESIII detector. The Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -} is of interest as it is expected to be a candidate for a hidden-charm and open-strange tetraquark. A partial-reconstruction technique is used to isolate K+K^+ recoil-mass spectra, which are probed for a potential contribution from Zcs′−→Ds∗−D∗0Z_{cs}^{\prime -}\to D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0} (c.c.c.c.). We find an excess of Zcs′−→Ds∗−D∗0Z_{cs}^{\prime -}\rightarrow D_{s}^{*-}D^{*0} (c.c.c.c.) candidates with a significance of 2.1σ2.1σ, after considering systematic uncertainties, at a mass of (4123.5±0.7stat.±4.7syst.) MeV/c2(4123.5\pm0.7_\mathrm{stat.}\pm4.7_\mathrm{syst.})\ \mathrm{MeV}/c^{2}. As the data set is limited in size, the upper limits are evaluated at the 90\% confidence level on the product of the Born cross sections (σBornσ^{\mathrm{Born}}) and the branching fraction (B\mathcal{B}) of Zcs′−→Ds∗−D∗0Z_{cs}^{\prime-}\rightarrow D_{s}^{*-}D^{* 0}, under different assumptions of the Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -} mass from 4.120 to 4.140 MeV and of the width from 10 to 50 MeV at the three center-of-mass energies. The upper limits of σBorn⋅Bσ^{\rm Born}\cdot\mathcal{B} are found to be at the level of O(1)\mathcal{O}(1) pb at each energy. Larger data samples are needed to confirm the Zcs′−Z_{cs}^{\prime -} state and clarify its nature in the coming years.

Aspects of Muchnik's paradox in restricted betting

Muchnik's paradox says that enumerable betting strategies are not always reducible to enumerable strategies whose bets are restricted to either even rounds or odd rounds. In other words, there are outcome sequences x where an effectively enumerable strategy succeeds, but no such parity-restricted effectively enumerable strategy does. We characterize the effective Hausdorff dimension of such xx, showing that it can be as low as 1/2 but not less. We also show that such reals that are random with respect to parity-restricted effectively enumerable strategies with packing dimension as low as log⁡3\log\sqrt3. Finally we exhibit Muchnik's paradox in the case of computable integer-valued strategies.

Distantly Supervised Relation Extraction via Recursive Hierarchy-Interactive Attention and Entity-Order Perception

Wrong-labeling problem and long-tail relations severely affect the performance of distantly supervised relation extraction task. Many studies mitigate the effect of wrong-labeling through selective attention mechanism and handle long-tail relations by introducing relation hierarchies to share knowledge. However, almost all existing studies ignore the fact that, in a sentence, the appearance order of two entities contributes to the understanding of its semantics. Furthermore, they only utilize each relation level of relation hierarchies separately, but do not exploit the heuristic effect between relation levels, i.e., higher-level relations can give useful information to the lower ones. Based on the above, in this paper, we design a novel Recursive Hierarchy-Interactive Attention network (RHIA) to further handle long-tail relations, which models the heuristic effect between relation levels. From the top down, it passes relation-related information layer by layer, which is the most significant difference from existing models, and generates relation-augmented sentence representations for each relation level in a recursive structure. Besides, we introduce a newfangled training objective, called Entity-Order Perception (EOP), to make the sentence encoder retain more entity appearance information. Substantial experiments on the popular (NYT) dataset are conducted. Compared to prior baselines, our RHIA-EOP achieves state-of-the-art performance in terms of precision-recall (P-R) curves, AUC, Top-N precision and other evaluation metrics. Insightful analysis also demonstrates the necessity and effectiveness of each component of RHIA-EOP.

Experimental investigation of quantum uncertainty relations with classical shadows

The quantum component in uncertainty relation can be naturally characterized by the quantum coherence of a quantum state, which is of paramount importance in quantum information science. Here, we experimentally investigate quantum uncertainty relations construed with relative entropy of coherence, l1l_1 norm of coherence and coherence of formation. In stead of quantum state tomographic technology, we employ the classical shadow algorithm for the detection of lower bounds in quantum uncertainty relations. With an all optical setup, we prepare a family of quantum states whose purity can be fully controlled. We experimentally explore the tightness of various lower bounds in different reference bases on the prepared states. Our results indicate the tightness of quantum coherence lower bounds dependents on the reference bases as well as the purity of quantum state.

FedProto: Federated Prototype Learning across Heterogeneous Clients

Heterogeneity across clients in federated learning (FL) usually hinders the optimization convergence and generalization performance when the aggregation of clients' knowledge occurs in the gradient space. For example, clients may differ in terms of data distribution, network latency, input/output space, and/or model architecture, which can easily lead to the misalignment of their local gradients. To improve the tolerance to heterogeneity, we propose a novel federated prototype learning (FedProto) framework in which the clients and server communicate the abstract class prototypes instead of the gradients. FedProto aggregates the local prototypes collected from different clients, and then sends the global prototypes back to all clients to regularize the training of local models. The training on each client aims to minimize the classification error on the local data while keeping the resulting local prototypes sufficiently close to the corresponding global ones. Moreover, we provide a theoretical analysis to the convergence rate of FedProto under non-convex objectives. In experiments, we propose a benchmark setting tailored for heterogeneous FL, with FedProto outperforming several recent FL approaches on multiple datasets.

Irreducibility of enumerable betting strategies

We study the problem of whether a betting-strategy can be decomposed into an equivalent set of simpler betting-strategies, such as betting-strategies that bet on a restricted set of stages or bet on a restricted of favorable outcomes. We show that the class of effectively enumerable betting-strategies has irreducible members which cannot be decomposed into an equivalent set of simpler betting-strategies. We answer questions of Kastermans and Hitchcock by constructing a real on which no kastergale (which is a left-c.e. supermartingale whose favorable outcomes are effectively determined) succeeds, but some unrestricted left-c.e. supermartingale succeeds on it. We generalize a result of Muchnick by showing that there is a non-1-random real such that no muchgale (which is a left-c.e. supermartingale who does not bet on certain stages) succeeds on it. Our methodology is then used to obtain further irreducibility results, strongly supporting a conjecture that if a natural class of left-c.e. supermartingales defines 1-randomness, then a single member of that class can do so. In another word, the class of left-c.e. supermartingales cannot be reduced to a simpler, natural subclass of it. For example, we show that there is a non-1-random real such that no kastergale or muchgale succeeds on it.

Limit Complexities, Minimal Descriptions, and nn-Randomness

Let KK denote prefix-free Kolmogorov Complexity, and KAK^A denote it relative to an oracle AA. We show that for any nn, K∅(n)K^{\emptyset^{(n)}} is definable purely in terms of the unrelativized notion KK. It was already known that 2-randomness is definable in terms of KK (and plain complexity CC) as those reals which infinitely often have maximal complexity. We can use our characterization to show that nn-randomness is definable purely in terms of KK. To do this we extend a certain ``limsup'' formula from the literature, and apply Symmetry of Information. This extension entails a novel use of semilow sets, and a more precise analysis of the complexity of Δ20Δ_2^0 sets of mimimal descriptions.

Magnetic frustration in the cubic double perovskite Ba2NiIrO6

Hybrid transition metal oxides continue to attract attention due to their multiple degrees of freedom (e.g.e.g., lattice, charge, spin, and orbital) and versatile properties. Here we investigate the magnetic and electronic properties of the newly synthesized double perovskite Ba2_2NiIrO6_6, using crystal field theory, superexchange model analysis, density functional calculations, and parallel tempering Monte Carlo (PTMC) simulations. Our results indicate that Ba2_2NiIrO6_6 has the Ni2+^{2+} (t2g6eg2t_{2g}^{6}e_{g}^{2})-Ir6+^{6+} (t2g3t_{2g}^{3}) charge states. The first nearest-neighboring (1NN) Ni2+^{2+}-Ir6+^{6+} ions prefer a ferromagnetic (FM) coupling as expected from the Goodenough-Kanamori-Anderson rules, which contradicts the experimental antiferromagnetic (AF) order in Ba2_2NiIrO6_6. We find that the strong 2NN AF couplings are frustrated in the fcc sublattices, and they play a major role in determining the observed AF ground state. We also prove that the JeffJ_{\rm eff} = 3/2 and JeffJ_{\rm eff} = 1/2 states induced by spin-orbit coupling, which would be manifested in low-dimensional (e.g., layered) iridates, are however not the case for cubic Ba2_2NiIrO6_6. Our PTMC simulations show that when the long-range (2NN and 3NN) AF interactions are included, an AF transition with TNT_{\rm N} = 66 K would be obtained and it is well comparable with the experimental 51 K. Meanwhile, we propose a possible 2×\times2×\times2 noncollinear AF structure for Ba2_2NiIrO6_6.

The absolute branching fraction of the decay Λ→nγΛ\to nγ is determined with a significance of 5.6σσ to be [0.832±0.038(stat.)±0.054(syst.)]×10−3[0.832\pm0.038(\rm stat.)\pm0.054(\rm syst.)]\times10^{-3}, which lies significantly below the current PDG value. By analyzing the joint angular distribution of the decay products, the first determination of the decay asymmetry αγα_γ is reported with a value of −0.16±0.10(stat.)±0.05(syst.)-0.16\pm0.10(\rm stat.)\pm0.05(\rm syst.).

Measurement of the total and leptonic decay widths of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance with an energy scan method at BESIII

Using e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data sets collected with the BESIII detector, we measure the cross sections of the processes e+e−→e+e−e^+e^- \to e^+e^- and e+e−→μ+μ−e^+e^- \to μ^+μ^- at fifteen center-of-mass energy points in the vicinity of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance. By a simultaneous fit to the measured, center-of-mass energy dependent cross sections of the two processes, the combined quantities ΓeeΓee/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{ee} / Γ_{\rm tot} and ΓeeΓμμ/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{μμ} / Γ_{\rm tot} are determined to be (0.346±0.0090.346 \pm 0.009) and (0.335±0.0060.335 \pm 0.006) keV, respectively, where ΓeeΓ_{ee}, ΓμμΓ_{μμ}, and ΓtotΓ_{\rm tot} are the electronic, muonic, and total decay widths of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance, respectively. Using the resultant ΓeeΓμμ/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{μμ} / Γ_{\rm tot} and ΓeeΓee/ΓtotΓ_{ee} Γ_{ee} / Γ_{\rm tot}, the ratio Γee/ΓμμΓ_{ee} / Γ_{μμ} is calculated to be 1.031±0.0151.031 \pm 0.015, which is consistent with the expectation of lepton universality within about two standard deviations. Assuming lepton universality and using the branching fraction of the J/ψJ/ψ leptonic decay measured by BESIII in 2013, ΓtotΓ_{\rm tot} and ΓllΓ_{ll} are determined to be (93.0±2.193.0 \pm 2.1) and (5.56±0.115.56 \pm 0.11) keV, respectively, where ΓllΓ_{ll} is the average leptonic decay width of the J/ψJ/ψ resonance.

Measurements of the absolute branching fractions of hadronic DD-meson decays involving kaons and pions

By analyzing an electron-positron collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb−12.93\,\rm fb^{-1} taken at the center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we obtain for the first time the absolute branching fractions for seven D0D^0 and D+D^+ hadronic decay modes and search for the hadronic decay D0→KS0KS0π0D^0\to K^0_S K^0_Sπ^0 with much improved sensitivity. The results are B(D0→KS0π0π0π0)=(7.64±0.30±0.29)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^0_Sπ^0π^0π^0 )=( 7.64\pm 0.30\pm 0.29)\times 10^{-3}, B(D0→K−π+π0π0π0)=(9.54±0.30±0.31)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^-π^+π^0π^0π^0 )=( 9.54\pm 0.30\pm 0.31)\times 10^{-3}, B(D0→KS0π+π−π0π0)=(12.66±0.45±0.43)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^0_Sπ^+π^-π^0π^0)=(12.66\pm 0.45\pm 0.43)\times 10^{-3}, B(D+→KS0π+π0π0)=(29.04±0.62±0.87)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^+\to K^0_Sπ^+π^0π^0 )=(29.04\pm 0.62\pm 0.87)\times 10^{-3}, B(D+→KS0π+π+π−π0)=(15.28±0.57±0.60)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^+\to K^0_Sπ^+π^+π^-π^0)=(15.28\pm 0.57\pm 0.60)\times 10^{-3}, B(D+→KS0π+π0π0π0)=(5.54±0.44±0.32)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^+\to K^0_Sπ^+π^0π^0π^0)=( 5.54\pm 0.44\pm 0.32)\times 10^{-3}, B(D+→K−π+π+π0π0)=(4.95±0.26±0.19)×10−3{\mathcal B}(D^+\to K^-π^+π^+π^0π^0 )=( 4.95\pm 0.26\pm 0.19)\times 10^{-3}, B(D0→KS0KS0π0)<1.57×10−4{\mathcal B}({D^0\to K^0_S K^0_Sπ^0}) < 1.57 \times 10^{-4} at the 90\% confidence level. Here the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. The newly studied decays greatly enrich the knowledge of the D→KˉπππD\to \bar Kπππ and D→KˉππππD\to \bar Kππππ hadronic decays, and open a bridge to access more two-body hadronic DD decays containing scalar, vector, axial and tensor mesons in the charm sector.

The hadronic decay ηc(2S)→3(π+π−)η_c(2S) \to 3(π^+π^-) is observed with a statistical significance of 9.3 standard deviations using (448.1±2.9)×106(448.1\pm2.9)\times10^6 ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Observation of resonance structures in e+e−→π+π−ψ2(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-ψ_2(3823) and mass measurement of ψ2(3823)ψ_2(3823)

Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 11.3 fb−1\rm fb^{-1} collected at center-of-mass energies from 4.234.23 to 4.704.70 GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the product of the e+e−→π+π−ψ2(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-ψ_2(3823) cross section and the branching fraction B[ψ2(3823)→γχc1]\mathcal{B}[ψ_2(3823)\to γχ_{c1}]. For the first time, resonance structure is observed in the cross section line shape of e+e−→π+π−ψ2(3823)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-ψ_2(3823) with significances exceeding 5σ5σ. A fit to data with two coherent Breit-Wigner resonances modeling the s\sqrt{s}-dependent cross section yields M(R1)=4406.9±17.2±4.5M(R_1)=4406.9\pm 17.2\pm 4.5 MeV/c2c^2, Γ(R1)=128.1±37.2±2.3Γ(R_1)=128.1\pm 37.2\pm 2.3 MeV, and M(R2)=4647.9±8.6±0.8M(R_2)=4647.9\pm 8.6\pm 0.8 MeV/c2c^2, Γ(R2)=33.1±18.6±4.1Γ(R_2)=33.1\pm 18.6\pm 4.1 MeV. Though weakly disfavored by the data, a single resonance with M(R)=4417.5±26.2±3.5M(R)=4417.5\pm26.2\pm3.5 MeV/c2c^2, Γ(R)=245±48±13Γ(R)=245\pm48\pm13 MeV is also possible to interpret data. This observation deepens our understanding of the nature of the vector charmoniumlike states. The mass of the ψ2(3823)ψ_2(3823) state is measured as (3823.12±0.43±0.13)(3823.12\pm 0.43\pm 0.13) MeV/c2c^2, which is the most precise measurement to date.

Omni-Scale CNNs: a simple and effective kernel size configuration for time series classification

The Receptive Field (RF) size has been one of the most important factors for One Dimensional Convolutional Neural Networks (1D-CNNs) on time series classification tasks. Large efforts have been taken to choose the appropriate size because it has a huge influence on the performance and differs significantly for each dataset. In this paper, we propose an Omni-Scale block (OS-block) for 1D-CNNs, where the kernel sizes are decided by a simple and universal rule. Particularly, it is a set of kernel sizes that can efficiently cover the best RF size across different datasets via consisting of multiple prime numbers according to the length of the time series. The experiment result shows that models with the OS-block can achieve a similar performance as models with the searched optimal RF size and due to the strong optimal RF size capture ability, simple 1D-CNN models with OS-block achieves the state-of-the-art performance on four time series benchmarks, including both univariate and multivariate data from multiple domains. Comprehensive analysis and discussions shed light on why the OS-block can capture optimal RF sizes across different datasets. Code available [https://github.com/Wensi-Tang/OS-CNN]

See further upon the giants: Quantifying intellectual lineage in science

Newton's centuries-old wisdom of standing on the shoulders of giants raises a crucial yet underexplored question: Out of all the prior works cited by a discovery, which one is its giant? Here, we develop a novel, discipline-independent method to identify the giant for any individual paper, allowing us to systematically examine the role and characteristics of giants in science. We find that across disciplines, about 95% of papers stand on the shoulders of giants, yet the weight of scientific progress rests on relatively few shoulders. Defining a new measure of giant index, we find that, while papers with high citations are more likely to be giants, for papers with the same citations, their giant index sharply predicts a paper's future impact and prize-winning probabilities. Giants tend to originate from both small and large teams, being either highly disruptive or highly developmental. And papers that did not have a giant but later became a giant tend to be home-run papers that are highly disruptive to science. Given the crucial importance of citation-based measures in science, the developed concept of giants may offer a useful new dimension in assessing scientific impact that goes beyond sheer citation counts.

Spin-Orbital States and Strong Antiferromagnetism of Layered Eu2_2SrFe2_2O6_6 and Sr3_3Fe2_2O4_4Cl2_2

The insulating iron compounds Eu2_2SrFe2_2O6_6 and Sr3_3Fe2_2O4_4Cl2_2 have high-temperature antiferromagnetic (AF) order despite their different layered structures. Here we carry out density functional calculations and Monte Carlo simulations to study their electronic structures and magnetic properties aided with analyses of the crystal field, magnetic anisotropy, and superexchange. We find that both compounds are Mott insulators and in the high-spin (HS) Fe2+^{2+} state (SS = 2) accompanied by the weakened crystal field. Although they have different local coordination and crystal fields, the Fe2+^{2+} ions have the same level sequence and ground-state configuration (3z2−r2)2(xz,yz)2(xy)1(x2−y2)1(3z^2-r^2)^2(xz,yz)^2(xy)^1(x^2-y^2)^1. Then, the multiorbital superexchange produces strong AF couplings, and the (3z2−r2)/(xz,yz)(3z^2-r^2)/(xz,yz) mixing via the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) yields a small in-plane orbital moment and anisotropy. Indeed, by tracing a set of different spin-orbital states, our density functional calculations confirm the strong AF couplings and the easy planar magnetization for both compounds. Moreover, using the derived magnetic parameters, our Monte Carlo simulations give the Néel temperature TNT_{\rm N} = 420 K (372 K) for the former (the latter), which well reproduce the experimental results. Therefore, the present study provides a unified picture for Eu2_2SrFe2_2O6_6 and Sr3_3Fe2_2O4_4Cl2_2 concerning their electronic and magnetic properties.

Tailoring topological transition of anisotropic polaritons by interface engineering in biaxial crystals

Polaritons in polar biaxial crystals with extreme anisotropy offer a promising route to manipulate nanoscale light-matter interactions. The dynamical modulation of their dispersion is great significance for future integrated nano-optics but remains challenging. Here, we report a momentum-directed strategy, a coupling between the modes with extra momentum supported by the interface and in-plane hyperbolic polaritons, to tailor topological transitions of anisotropic polaritons in biaxial crystals. We experimentally demonstrate such tailored polaritons at the interface of heterostructures between graphene and α-phase molybdenum trioxide (α-MoO3). The interlayer coupling can be electrically modulated by changing the Fermi level in graphene, enabling a dynamic topological transition. More interestingly, we found that the topological transition occurs at a constant Fermi level when tuning the thickness of α-MoO3. The momentum-directed strategy implemented by interface engineering offers new insights for optical topological transitions, which may shed new light for programmable polaritonics, energy transfer and neuromorphic photonics.

The least-used key selection method for information retrieval in large-scale Cloud-based service repositories

As the number of devices connected to the Internet of Things (IoT) increases significantly, it leads to an exponential growth in the number of services that need to be processed and stored in the large-scale Cloud-based service repositories. An efficient service indexing model is critical for service retrieval and management of large-scale Cloud-based service repositories. The multilevel index model is the state-of-art service indexing model in recent years to improve service discovery and combination. This paper aims to optimize the model to consider the impact of unequal appearing probability of service retrieval request parameters and service input parameters on service retrieval and service addition operations. The least-used key selection method has been proposed to narrow the search scope of service retrieval and reduce its time. The experimental results show that the proposed least-used key selection method improves the service retrieval efficiency significantly compared with the designated key selection method in the case of the unequal appearing probability of parameters in service retrieval requests under three indexing models.

Unique electronic state in ferromagnetic semiconductor FeCl2_{2} monolayer

Two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals (vdW) magnetic materials could be an ideal platform for ultracompact spintronic applications. Among them, FeCl2_{2} monolayer in the triangular lattice is subject to a strong debate. Thus, we critically examine its spin-orbital state, electronic structure, and magnetic properties, using a set of delicate first-principles calculations, crystal field level analyses, and Monte Carlo simulations. Our work reveals that FeCl2_{2} monolayer is a ferromagnetic (FM) semiconductor in which the electron correlation of the narrow Fe 3d3d bands determines the band gap of about 1.2 eV. Note that only when the spin-orbit coupling (SOC) is properly handled, the unique dd5↑^{5\uparrow}llz+↓^\downarrow_{z+} electronic ground state is achieved. Then, both the orbital and spin contributions (0.59 μBμ_{\rm B} plus 3.56 μBμ_{\rm B}) to the total magnetic moment well account for, for the first time, the experimental perpendicular moment of 4.3 μBμ_{\rm B}/Fe. Moreover, we find that a compressive strain further stabilizes the dd5↑^{5\uparrow}llz+↓^\downarrow_{z+} ground state, and that the enhanced magnetic anisotropy and exchange coupling would boost the Curie temperature (TCT_{\rm C}) from 25 K for the pristine FeCl2_{2} monolayer to 69-102 K under 3%\%-5%\% compressive strain. Therefore, FeCl2_{2} monolayer is indeed an appealing 2D FM semiconductor.

Episodic memory governs choices: An RNN-based reinforcement learning model for decision-making task

Typical methods to study cognitive function are to record the electrical activities of animal neurons during the training of animals performing behavioral tasks. A key problem is that they fail to record all the relevant neurons in the animal brain. To alleviate this problem, we develop an RNN-based Actor-Critic framework, which is trained through reinforcement learning (RL) to solve two tasks analogous to the monkeys' decision-making tasks. The trained model is capable of reproducing some features of neural activities recorded from animal brain, or some behavior properties exhibited in animal experiments, suggesting that it can serve as a computational platform to explore other cognitive functions. Furthermore, we conduct behavioral experiments on our framework, trying to explore an open question in neuroscience: which episodic memory in the hippocampus should be selected to ultimately govern future decisions. We find that the retrieval of salient events sampled from episodic memories can effectively shorten deliberation time than common events in the decision-making process. The results indicate that salient events stored in the hippocampus could be prioritized to propagate reward information, and thus allow decision-makers to learn a strategy faster.

Extreme Suppression of Antiferromagnetic Order and Critical Scaling in a Two-Dimensional Random Quantum Magnet

Sr2_2CuTeO6_6 is a square-lattice Néel antiferromagnet with superexchange between first-neighbor S=1/2S=1/2 Cu spins mediated by plaquette centered Te ions. Substituting Te by W, the affected impurity plaquettes have predominantly second-neighbor interactions, thus causing local magnetic frustration. Here we report a study of Sr2_2CuTe1−x_{1-x}Wx_xO6_6 using neutron diffraction and μμSR techniques, showing that the Néel order vanishes already at x=0.025±0.005x = 0.025 \pm 0.005. We explain this extreme order suppression using a two-dimensional Heisenberg spin model, demonstrating that a W-type impurity induces a deformation of the order parameter that decays with distance as 1/r21/r^2 at temperature T=0T=0. The associated logarithmic singularity leads to loss of order for any x>0x>0. Order for small x>0x>0 and T>0T>0 is induced by weak interplane couplings. In the nonmagnetic phase of Sr2_2CuTe1−x_{1-x}Wx_xO6_6, the μμSR relaxation rate exhibits quantum critical scaling with a large dynamic exponent, z≈3z \approx 3, consistent with a random-singlet state.

Isometric Propagation Network for Generalized Zero-shot Learning

Zero-shot learning (ZSL) aims to classify images of an unseen class only based on a few attributes describing that class but no access to any training sample. A popular strategy is to learn a mapping between the semantic space of class attributes and the visual space of images based on the seen classes and their data. Thus, an unseen class image can be ideally mapped to its corresponding class attributes. The key challenge is how to align the representations in the two spaces. For most ZSL settings, the attributes for each seen/unseen class are only represented by a vector while the seen-class data provide much more information. Thus, the imbalanced supervision from the semantic and the visual space can make the learned mapping easily overfitting to the seen classes. To resolve this problem, we propose Isometric Propagation Network (IPN), which learns to strengthen the relation between classes within each space and align the class dependency in the two spaces. Specifically, IPN learns to propagate the class representations on an auto-generated graph within each space. In contrast to only aligning the resulted static representation, we regularize the two dynamic propagation procedures to be isometric in terms of the two graphs' edge weights per step by minimizing a consistency loss between them. IPN achieves state-of-the-art performance on three popular ZSL benchmarks. To evaluate the generalization capability of IPN, we further build two larger benchmarks with more diverse unseen classes and demonstrate the advantages of IPN on them.

NATS-Bench: Benchmarking NAS Algorithms for Architecture Topology and Size

Neural architecture search (NAS) has attracted a lot of attention and has been illustrated to bring tangible benefits in a large number of applications in the past few years. Architecture topology and architecture size have been regarded as two of the most important aspects for the performance of deep learning models and the community has spawned lots of searching algorithms for both aspects of the neural architectures. However, the performance gain from these searching algorithms is achieved under different search spaces and training setups. This makes the overall performance of the algorithms to some extent incomparable and the improvement from a sub-module of the searching model unclear. In this paper, we propose NATS-Bench, a unified benchmark on searching for both topology and size, for (almost) any up-to-date NAS algorithm. NATS-Bench includes the search space of 15,625 neural cell candidates for architecture topology and 32,768 for architecture size on three datasets. We analyze the validity of our benchmark in terms of various criteria and performance comparison of all candidates in the search space. We also show the versatility of NATS-Bench by benchmarking 13 recent state-of-the-art NAS algorithms on it. All logs and diagnostic information trained using the same setup for each candidate are provided. This facilitates a much larger community of researchers to focus on developing better NAS algorithms in a more comparable and computationally cost friendly environment. Optimal Output Consensus of Heterogeneous Linear Multi-Agent Systems Over Weight-Unbalanced Directed Networks

This paper investigates the distributed optimal output consensus problem of heterogeneous linear multi-agent systems over weight-unbalanced directed networks. A novel distributed continuous-time state feedback controller is proposed to steer the outputs of all the agents to converge to the optimal solution of the global cost function. Under the standard condition that the unbalanced digraph is strongly connected and the local cost functions are strongly convex with global Lipschitz gradients, the exponential convergence of the closed-loop multi-agent system is established. Then, the proposed state feedback control law is extended to an observer-based output feedback setting. Optimal Output Consensus of Second-Order Uncertain Nonlinear Systems on Weight-Unbalanced Directed Networks

This paper investigates the distributed optimal output consensus problem of second-order uncertain nonlinear multi-agent systems over weight-unbalanced directed networks. Under the standard assumption that local cost functions are strongly convex with globally Lipschitz gradients, a novel distributed dynamic state feedback controller is developed such that the outputs of all the agents reach the optimal solution to minimize the global cost function which is the sum of all the local cost functions. The controller design is based on a two-layer strategy, where a distributed optimal coordinator and a reference-tracking controller are proposed to address the challenges arising from unbalanced directed networks and uncertain nonlinear functions respectively. A key feature of the proposed controller is that the nonlinear functions containing the uncertainties and disturbances are not required to be globally Lipschitz. Furthermore, by exploiting adaptive control technique, no prior knowledge of the uncertainties or disturbances is required either. Two simulation examples are finally provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

A Multi-layer hierarchical inter-cloud connectivity model for sequential packet inspection of tenant sessions accessing BI as a service

Business Intelligence (BI) has gained a new lease of life through Cloud computing as its demand for unlimited hardware and platform resources expandability is fulfilled by the Cloud elasticity features. BI can be seamlessly deployed on the Cloud given that its multilayered model coincides with the Cloud multilayer models. It is considered by many Cloud service providers as one of the prominent applications services on public, outsourced private and outsourced community Clouds. However, in the shared domains of Cloud computing, BI is exposed to security and privacy threats by virtue of exploits, eavesdropping, distributed attacks, malware attacks, and such other known challenges on Cloud computing. Given the multi-layered model of BI and Cloud computing, its protection on Cloud computing needs to be ensured through multilayered controls. In this paper, a multi-layered security and privacy model of BI as a service on Cloud computing is proposed through an algorithm for ensuring multi-level session inspections, and ensuring maximum security controls at all the seven layers, and prevent an attack from occurring. This will not only reduce the risk of security breaches, but allow an organisation time to detect, and respond to an attack. The simulations present the effects of distributed attacks on the BI systems by attackers posing as genuine Cloud tenants. The results reflect how the attackers are blocked by the multilayered security and privacy controls deployed for protecting the BI servers and databases

A Universal Representation Transformer Layer for Few-Shot Image Classification

Few-shot classification aims to recognize unseen classes when presented with only a small number of samples. We consider the problem of multi-domain few-shot image classification, where unseen classes and examples come from diverse data sources. This problem has seen growing interest and has inspired the development of benchmarks such as Meta-Dataset. A key challenge in this multi-domain setting is to effectively integrate the feature representations from the diverse set of training domains. Here, we propose a Universal Representation Transformer (URT) layer, that meta-learns to leverage universal features for few-shot classification by dynamically re-weighting and composing the most appropriate domain-specific representations. In experiments, we show that URT sets a new state-of-the-art result on Meta-Dataset. Specifically, it achieves top-performance on the highest number of data sources compared to competing methods. We analyze variants of URT and present a visualization of the attention score heatmaps that sheds light on how the model performs cross-domain generalization. Our code is available at https://github.com/liulu112601/URT.

Coding power of product of partitions

Given two combinatorial notions P0\mathsf{P}_0 and P1\mathsf{P}_1, can we encode P0\mathsf{P}_0 via P1\mathsf{P}_1. In this talk we address the question where P0\mathsf{P}_0 is 3-coloring of integers and P1\mathsf{P}_1 is product of finitely many 2-colorings of integers. We firstly reduce the question to a lemma which asserts that certain Π10Π^0_1 class of colorings admit two members violating a particular combinatorial constraint. Then we took a digression to see how complex does the class has to be so as to maintain the cross constraint. We weaken the two members in the lemma in certain way to address an open question of Cholak, Dzhafarov, Hirschfeldt and Patey, concerning a sort of Weihrauch degree of stable Ramsey's theorem for pairs. It turns out the resulted strengthen of the lemma is a basis theorem for Π10Π^0_1 class with additional constraint. We look at several such variants of basis theorem, among them some are unknown. We end up by introducing some results and questions concerning product of infinitely many colorings.

Experimental simulation of the Parity-Time-symmetric dynamics using photonics qubits

The concept of parity-time (PT) symmetry originates from the framework of quantum mechanics, where if the Hamiltonian operator satisfies the commutation relation with the parity and time operators, it shows all real eigen-energy spectrum. Recently, PT symmetry was introduced into optics, electronic circuits, acoustics, and so many other classical fields to further study the dynamics of the Hamiltonian and the energy of the system. Focusing on the dynamical evolution of the quantum state under the action of PT symmetric Hamiltonian, here we experimentally demonstrated the general dynamical evolution of a two-level system under the PT symmetric Hamiltonian using single-photon system. By enlarging the system using ancillary qubits and encoding the subsystem under the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian with post-selection, the evolution of the state can be observed with a high fidelity when the successfully parity-time symmetrically evolved subspace is solely considered. Owing to the effectively operation of the dilation method, our work provides a route for further exploiting the exotic properties of PT symmetric Hamiltonian for quantum simulation and quantum information processing.

Interpretable Time-series Classification on Few-shot Samples

Recent few-shot learning works focus on training a model with prior meta-knowledge to fast adapt to new tasks with unseen classes and samples. However, conventional time-series classification algorithms fail to tackle the few-shot scenario. Existing few-shot learning methods are proposed to tackle image or text data, and most of them are neural-based models that lack interpretability. This paper proposes an interpretable neural-based framework, namely \textit{Dual Prototypical Shapelet Networks (DPSN)} for few-shot time-series classification, which not only trains a neural network-based model but also interprets the model from dual granularity: 1) global overview using representative time series samples, and 2) local highlights using discriminative shapelets. In particular, the generated dual prototypical shapelets consist of representative samples that can mostly demonstrate the overall shapes of all samples in the class and discriminative partial-length shapelets that can be used to distinguish different classes. We have derived 18 few-shot TSC datasets from public benchmark datasets and evaluated the proposed method by comparing with baselines. The DPSN framework outperforms state-of-the-art time-series classification methods, especially when training with limited amounts of data. Several case studies have been given to demonstrate the interpret ability of our model.

Learning Structured Embeddings of Knowledge Graphs with Adversarial Learning Framework

Many large-scale knowledge graphs are now available and ready to provide semantically structured information that is regarded as an important resource for question answering and decision support tasks. However, they are built on rigid symbolic frameworks which makes them hard to be used in other intelligent systems. We present a learning method using generative adversarial architecture designed to embed the entities and relations of the knowledge graphs into a continuous vector space. A generative network (GN) takes two elements of a (subject, predicate, object) triple as input and generates the vector representation of the missing element. A discriminative network (DN) scores a triple to distinguish a positive triple from those generated by GN. The training goal for GN is to deceive DN to make wrong classification. When arriving at a convergence, GN recovers the training data and can be used for knowledge graph completion, while DN is trained to be a good triple classifier. Unlike few previous studies based on generative adversarial architectures, our GN is able to generate unseen instances while they just use GN to better choose negative samples (already existed) for DN. Experiments demonstrate our method can improve classical relational learning models (e.g.TransE) with a significant margin on both the link prediction and triple classification tasks.

Masked Pre-trained Encoder base on Joint CTC-Transformer

This study (The work was accomplished during the internship in Tencent AI lab) addresses semi-supervised acoustic modeling, i.e. attaining high-level representations from unsupervised audio data and fine-tuning the parameters of pre-trained model with supervised data. The proposed approach adopts a two-stage training framework, consisting of masked pre-trained encoder (MPE) and Joint CTC-Transformer (JCT). In the MPE framework, part of input frames are masked and reconstructed after the encoder with massive unsupervised data. In JCT framework, compared with original Transformer, acoustic features are applied as input instead of plain text. CTC loss performs as the prediction target on top of the encoder, and decoder blocks remain unchanged. This paper presents a comparison between two-stage training method and the fully supervised JCT. In addition, this paper investigates the our approach's robustness against different volumns of training data. Experiments on the two-stage training method deliver much better performance than fully supervised model. The word error rate (WER) with two-stage training which only exploits 30\% of WSJ labeled data achieves 17\% reduction than which trained by 50\% of WSJ in a fully supervised way. Moreover, increasing unlabeled data for MPE from WSJ (81h) to Librispeech (960h) attains about 22\% WER reduction.

Quantum-critical scaling properties of the two-dimensional random-singlet state

We use QMC simulations to study effects of disorder on the S=1/2S=1/2 Heisenberg model with exchange constant JJ on the square lattice supplemented by multispin interactions QQ. It was found recently [L. Lu et al., Phys. Rev. X 8, 041040 (2018)] that the ground state of this JJ-QQ model with random couplings undergoes a quantum phase transition from the Néel state into a randomness-induced spin-liquid-like state that is a close analogue to the well known random-singlet (RS) state of the random Heisenberg chain. The 2D RS state arises from spinons localized at topological defects. The interacting spinons form a critical state with mean spin-spin correlations decaying with distance rr as r−2r^{-2}, as in the 1D RS state. The dynamic exponent z≥2z \ge 2, varying continuously with the model parameters. We here further investigate the properties of the RS state in the JJ-QQ model with random QQ couplings. We study the temperature dependence of the specific heat and various susceptibilities for large enough systems to reach the thermodynamic limit and also analyze the size dependence of the critical magnetic order parameter and its susceptibility in the ground state. For all these quantities, we find consistency with conventional quantum-critical scaling when the condition implied by the r−2r^{-2} form of the spin correlations is imposed. All quantities can be explained by the same value of the dynamic exponent zz at fixed model parameters. We argue that the RS state identified in the JJ-QQ model corresponds to a generic renormalization group fixed point that can be reached in many quantum magnets with random couplings, and may already have been observed experimentally.

Upper bound on some hightness notions

We give upper bound for several highness properties in computability randomness theory. First, we prove that discrete covering property does not imply the ability to compute a 1-random real, answering a question of Greenberg, Miller and Nies. This also implies that an infinite set of incompressible strings does not necessarily extract a 1-random real. Second, we prove that given a homogeneous binary tree that does not admit an infinite computable path, a sequence of bounded martingale whose initial capital tends to zero, there exists a martingale SS majorizing infinitely any of them such that SS does not compute an infinite path of the tree. This implies that 1) High(CR,MLR) does not imply PA-completeness, answering a question of Miller; 2) ≤CR\leq_{\mathsf{CR}} does not imply ≤T\leq_T, answering a question of Nies. The proof of the second result suggests that the coding power of the universal c.e. martingale lies in its infinite variance.

Which DNR can be minimal

Khan and Miller proved that for every computable non decreasing unbounded function h∈ωωh\in ω^ω (henceforth order function), if hh is sufficiently large, then there exists a DNRhDNR_h that is of minimal degree. Where hh has to satisfy lim⁡n→∞h(n)/(2k⋅∏m<nh(m))=∞\lim_{n\rightarrow\infty} h(n)/(2^{k\cdot \prod_{m<n}h(m)})=\infty for all k>0k>0. Their core argument is that we can thin the tree by a factor of 2j2^j to make jj Turing functional split. We improve their result by reducing this factor to jj. Thus we show that for every order function hh with lim⁡n→∞h(n)/(∏m<nh(m))k=∞\lim_{n\rightarrow\infty} h(n)/( \prod_{m<n}h(m))^k=\infty for all k>0k>0, there exists a DNRhDNR_h of minimal degree. We answer a question of Brendle, Brooke-Taylor, Ng and Nies by showing that there exists a G∈ωωG\in ω^ω such that GG is weakly meager covering, GG does not compute any Schnorr random real and GG does not Schnorr cover REC.

An improved bound for strong unitary uncertainty relations with refined sequence

We derive the lower bound of uncertainty relations of two unitary operators for a class of states based on the geometric-arithmetic inequality and Cauchy-Schwarz inequality. Furthermore, we propose a set of uncertainty relations for three unitary operators. Compared to the known bound introduced in Phys.Rev.A.100,022116(2019), the unitary uncertainty relations bound with our method is tighter, to a certain extent. Meanwhile, some examples are given in the paper to illustrate our conclusions.

Cone avoiding closed sets

We prove that for an arbitrary subtree TT of 2<ω2^{<ω} with each element extendable to a path, a given countable class M\mathcal{M} closed under disjoint union, and any set AA, if none of the members of M\mathcal{M} strongly kk-enumerate TT for any kk, then there exists an infinite set contained in either AA or Aˉ\bar{A} such that for every C∈MC\in\mathcal{M}, C⊕GC\oplus G also does not strongly kk-enumerate TT. We give applications of this result, which include: (1) RT22\mathsf{RT_2^2} doesn't imply WWKL0\mathsf{WWKL_0}; (2) (Ambos-Spies et al.2004) DNR\mathsf{DNR} is strictly weaker than WWKL0\mathsf{WWKL_0}; (3) (Kjos-Hanssen 2009) for any Martin-Löf random set AA either AA or Aˉ\bar{A} contains an infinite subset that does not compute any Martin-Löf random set; etc. We also discuss further generalizations of this result.

This is somewhat related to a problem proposed by Patey. We also answer a question proposed by Liu, i.e., we prove that there exists a 0′\mathbf{0}'-computable RT31\mathsf{RT}_3^1-instance, I31I_3^1, such that every RT21\mathsf{RT}_2^1-instance admit a non trivial solution that does not compute any non trivial solution of I31I_3^1.

Representation Learning with Deconvolution for Multivariate Time Series Classification and Visualization

We propose a new model based on the deconvolutional networks and SAX discretization to learn the representation for multivariate time series. Deconvolutional networks fully exploit the advantage the powerful expressiveness of deep neural networks in the manner of unsupervised learning. We design a network structure specifically to capture the cross-channel correlation with deconvolution, forcing the pooling operation to perform the dimension reduction along each position in the individual channel. Discretization based on Symbolic Aggregate Approximation is applied on the feature vectors to further extract the bag of features. We show how this representation and bag of features helps on classification. A full comparison with the sequence distance based approach is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach on the standard datasets. We further build the Markov matrix from the discretized representation from the deconvolution to visualize the time series as complex networks, which show more class-specific statistical properties and clear structures with respect to different labels.

Time to time, being asked about which tool is suitable for a specific application, the authors decide to carry out this survey to present recapitulative information of the available tools in the literature, in hope of benefiting researchers with different academic backgrounds. With this motivation, the present article collects the scattered tools into a dashboard view, briefly introduces their usage and algorithms, evaluates the accuracy, compares the performance, and provides informative comments for selection.

Separability criteria via sets of mutually unbiased measurements

Mutually unbiased measurements (MUMs) are generalized from the concept of mutually unbiased bases (MUBs) and include the complete set of MUBs as a special case, but they are superior to MUBs as they do not need to be rank one projectors. We investigate entanglement detection using sets of MUMs and derived separability criteria for dd-dimensional multipartite systems, and arbitrary high-dimensional bipartitie and multipartite systems. These criteria provide experimental implementation in detecting entanglement of unknown quantum states.

On Optimizing Energy Efficiency in Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Networks

Multi-radio multi-channel (MR-MC) networks contribute significant enhancement in the network throughput by exploiting multiple radio interfaces and non-overlapping channels. While throughput optimization is one of the main targets in allocating resource in MR-MC networks, recently, the network energy efficiency is becoming a more and more important concern. Although turning on more radios and exploiting more channels for communication is always beneficial to network capacity, they may not be necessarily desirable from an energy efficiency perspective. The relationship between these two often conflicting objectives has not been well-studied in many existing works. In this paper, we investigate the problem of optimizing energy efficiency under full capacity operation in MR-MC networks and analyze the optimal choices of numbers of radios and channels. We provide detailed problem formulation and solution procedures. In particular, for homogeneous commodity networks, we derive a theoretical upper bound of the optimal energy efficiency and analyze the conditions under which such optimality can be achieved. Numerical results demonstrate that the achieved optimal energy efficiency is close to the theoretical upper bound.

Real-Time Misbehavior Detection in IEEE 802.11e Based WLANs

The Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) specification in the IEEE 802.11e standard supports heterogeneous backoff parameters and arbitration inter-frame space (AIFS), which makes a selfish node easy to manipulate these parameters and misbehave. In this case, the network-wide fairness cannot be achieved any longer. Many existing misbehavior detectors, primarily designed for legacy IEEE 802.11 networks, become inapplicable in such a heterogeneous network configuration. In this paper, we propose a novel real-time hybrid-share (HS) misbehavior detector for IEEE 802.11e based wireless local area networks (WLANs). The detector keeps updating its state based on every successful transmission and makes detection decisions by comparing its state with a threshold. We develop mathematical analysis of the detector performance in terms of both false positive rate and average detection rate. Numerical results show that the proposed detector can effectively detect both contention window based and AIFS based misbehavior with only a short detection window.

Muppet: MapReduce-Style Processing of Fast Data

MapReduce has emerged as a popular method to process big data. In the past few years, however, not just big data, but fast data has also exploded in volume and availability. Examples of such data include sensor data streams, the Twitter Firehose, and Facebook updates. Numerous applications must process fast data. Can we provide a MapReduce-style framework so that developers can quickly write such applications and execute them over a cluster of machines, to achieve low latency and high scalability? In this paper we report on our investigation of this question, as carried out at Kosmix and WalmartLabs. We describe MapUpdate, a framework like MapReduce, but specifically developed for fast data. We describe Muppet, our implementation of MapUpdate. Throughout the description we highlight the key challenges, argue why MapReduce is not well suited to address them, and briefly describe our current solutions. Finally, we describe our experience and lessons learned with Muppet, which has been used extensively at Kosmix and WalmartLabs to power a broad range of applications in social media and e-commerce.
