Global Gravity Field Model from Taiji-1 Observations

Taiji-1 is the first technology demonstration satellite of the Taiji program of China's space-borne gravitational wave antenna. After the demonstration of the key individual technologies, Taiji-1 continues collecting the data of the precision orbit determinations, satellite attitudes, and non-conservative forces exerted on the S/C. Therefore, during its free-fall, Taiji-1 can be viewed as operating in the high-low satellite-to-satellite tracking mode of a gravity recovery mission. In this work, we have selected and analyzed the one month data from Taiji-1's observations, and developed the techniques to resolve the long term interruptions and disturbances in the data due to the scheduled technology demonstration experiments. The first global gravity model \texttt{TJGM-r1911}, that independently derived from China's own satellite mission, is successfully built from Taiji-1's observations. Compared with gravity models from CHAMP and other satellite gravity missions, the accuracy discrepancies exist, which is mainly caused by the data discontinuity problem. As the extended free-falling phase been approved, Taiji-1 could serve as a gravity recovery mission for China since 2022 and it will provide us the independent measurement of both the static and the monthly time-variable global gravity field.

An Odor Labeling Convolutional Encoder-Decoder for Odor Sensing in Machine Olfaction

Deep learning methods have been widely applied to visual and acoustic technology. In this paper, we proposed an odor labeling convolutional encoder-decoder (OLCE) for odor identification in machine olfaction. OLCE composes a convolutional neural network encoder and decoder where the encoder output is constrained to odor labels. An electronic nose was used for the data collection of gas responses followed by a normative experimental procedure. Several evaluation indexes were calculated to evaluate the algorithm effectiveness: accuracy 92.57%, precision 92.29%, recall rate 92.06%, F1-Score 91.96%, and Kappa coefficient 90.76%. We also compared the model with some algorithms used in machine olfaction. The comparison result demonstrated that OLCE had the best performance among these algorithms. In the paper, some perspectives of machine olfactions have been also discussed.

Log-Sobolev, isoperimetry and transport inequalities on graphs

In this paper, we study some functional inequalities (such as Poincaré inequalities, logarithmic Sobolev inequalities, generalized Cheeger isoperimetric inequalities, transportation-information inequalities and transportation-entropy inequalities) for reversible nearest-neighbor Markov processes on a connected finite graph by means of (random) path method. We provide estimates of the involved constants.

Convergence rate and concentration inequalities for Gibbs sampling in high dimension

The objective of this paper is to study the Gibbs sampling for computing the mean of observable in very high dimension - a powerful Markov chain Monte Carlo method. Under the Dobrushin's uniqueness condition, we establish some explicit and sharp estimate of the exponential convergence rate and prove some Gaussian concentration inequalities for the empirical mean.

$L^1$-Uniqueness of the Fokker-Planck equation on a Riemannian manifold

In this paper, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for $L^{\infty}$-uniqueness of Sturm-Liouville operator $a(x)\frac{d^2}{dx^2} + b(x) \frac d{dx} -V$ on an open interval of $\rr$, which is equivalent to the $L^1$-uniqueness of the associated Fokker-Planck equation. For a general elliptic operator $\LL^V:=Δ+b \cdot\nabla -V$ on a Riemannian manifold, we obtain sharp sufficient conditions for the $L^1$-uniqueness of the Fokker-Planck equation associated with $\LL^V$, via comparison with a one-dimensional Sturm-Liouville operator. Furthermore the $L^1$-Liouville property is derived as a direct consequence of the $L^\infty$-uniqueness of $\LL^V$.

Moderate Deviations for Mean Field Particle Models

This article is concerned with moderate deviation principles of a general class of mean eld type interacting particle models. We discuss functional moderate deviations of the occupation measures for both the strong -topology on the space of fi nite and bounded measures as well as for the corresponding stochastic processes on some class of functions equipped with the uniform topology. Our approach is based on an original semigroup analysis combined with stochastic perturbation techniques and projective limit large deviation methods.

On the concentration properties of Interacting particle processes

These lecture notes present some new concentration inequalities for Feynman-Kac particle processes. We analyze different types of stochastic particle models, including particle profile occupation measures, genealogical tree based evolution models, particle free energies, as well as backward Markov chain particle models. We illustrate these results with a series of topics related to computational physics and biology, stochastic optimization, signal processing and bayesian statistics, and many other probabilistic machine learning algorithms. Special emphasis is given to the stochastic modeling and the quantitative performance analysis of a series of advanced Monte Carlo methods, including particle filters, genetic type island models, Markov bridge models, interacting particle Markov chain Monte Carlo methodologies.

Bernstein type's concentration inequalities for symmetric Markov processes

Using the method of transportation-information inequality introduced in \cite{GLWY}, we establish Bernstein type's concentration inequalities for empirical means $\frac 1t \int_0^t g(X_s)ds$ where $g$ is a unbounded observable of the symmetric Markov process $(X_t)$. Three approaches are proposed : functional inequalities approach ; Lyapunov function method ; and an approach through the Lipschitzian norm of the solution to the Poisson equation. Several applications and examples are studied.

Lyapunov conditions for logarithmic Sobolev and Super Poincaré inequality

We show how to use Lyapunov functions to obtain functional inequalities which are stronger than Poincaré inequality (for instance logarithmic Sobolev or $F$-Sobolev). The case of Poincaré and weak Poincaré inequalities was studied in Bakry and al. This approach allows us to recover and extend in an unified way some known criteria in the euclidean case (Bakry-Emery, Wang, Kusuoka-Stroock ...).

Transportation-information inequalities for Markov processes

In this paper, one investigates the following type of transportation-information $T_cI$ inequalities: $α(T_c(ν,μ))\le I(ν|μ)$ for all probability measures $ν$ on some metric space $(\XX, d)$, where $μ$ is a given probability measure, $T_c(ν,μ)$ is the transportation cost from $ν$ to $μ$ with respect to some cost function $c(x,y)$ on $\XX^2$, $I(ν|μ)$ is the Fisher-Donsker-Varadhan information of $ν$ with respect to $μ$ and $α: [0,\infty)\to [0,\infty]$ is some left continuous increasing function. Using large deviation techniques, it is shown that $T_cI$ is equivalent to some concentration inequality for the occupation measure of a $μ$-reversible ergodic Markov process related to $I(\cdot|μ)$, a counterpart of the characterizations of transportation-entropy inequalities, recently obtained by Gozlan and Léonard in the i.i.d. case . Tensorization properties of $T_cI$ are also derived.
