Orchestrating the Development Lifecycle of Machine Learning-Based IoT Applications: A Taxonomy and Survey

Machine Learning (ML) and Internet of Things (IoT) are complementary advances: ML techniques unlock complete potentials of IoT with intelligence, and IoT applications increasingly feed data collected by sensors into ML models, thereby employing results to improve their business processes and services. Hence, orchestrating ML pipelines that encompasses model training and implication involved in holistic development lifecycle of an IoT application often leads to complex system integration. This paper provides a comprehensive and systematic survey on the development lifecycle of ML-based IoT application. We outline core roadmap and taxonomy, and subsequently assess and compare existing standard techniques used in individual stage.

Pressure Engineering of the Dirac Fermions in Quasi-One-Dimensional Tl$_2$Mo$_6$Se$_6$

Topological band dispersions other than the standard Dirac or Weyl fermions have garnered the increasing interest in materials science. Among them, the cubic Dirac fermions were recently proposed in the family of quasi-one-dimensional conductors A$_2$Mo$_6$X$_6$ (A= Na, K, In, Tl; X= S, Se, Te), where the band crossing is characterized by a linear dispersion in one $k$-space direction but the cubic dispersion in the plane perpendicular to it. It is not yet clear, however, how the external perturbations can alter these nontrivial carriers and ultimately induce a new distinct quantum phase. Here we study the evolution of Dirac fermions, in particular the cubic Dirac crossing, under external pressure in the representative quasi-one-dimensional Tl$_2$Mo$_6$Se$_6$ via the first-principles calculations. Specifically, it is found that the topological properties, including the bulk Dirac crossings and the topological surface states, change progressively under pressure up to 50 GPa where it undergoes a structural transition from the hexagonal phase to body-centered tetragonal phase. Above 50 GPa, the system is more likely to be topologically trivial. Further, we also investigate its phonon spectra, which reveals a gradual depletion of the negative phonon modes with pressure, consistent with the more three-dimensional Fermi surface in the high-pressure phase. Our work may provide a useful guideline for further experimental search and the band engineering of the topologically nontrivial fermions in this intriguing state of matter.

Magnetoelectricity coupled exchange bias in BaMnF$_4$

Multiferroic BaMnF$_4$ powder were prepared by hydrothermal method. Hysteretic field dependent magnetization curve at 5 K confirms the weak ferromagnetism aroused from the canted antiferromagnetic spins by magnetoelectric coupling. The blocking temperature of 65 K for exchange bias coincides well with the peak at 65 K in the zero-field cooled temperature-dependent magnetization curve, which has been assigned to the onset temperature of two-dimensional antiferromagnetism. An upturn kink of exchange field and coercivity with decreasing temperature was observed from 40 K to 20 K, which is consistent with the two-dimensional to three-dimensional antiferromagnetic transition at Néel temperature (~26 K). In contrast to the conventional mechanism of magnetization pinned by interfacial exchange coupling in multiphases, the exchange bias in BaMnF$_4$ is argued to be a bulk effect in single phase, due to the magnetization pinned by the polarization through magnetoelectric coupling.

$L^1$-Uniqueness of the Fokker-Planck equation on a Riemannian manifold

In this paper, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for $L^{\infty}$-uniqueness of Sturm-Liouville operator $a(x)\frac{d^2}{dx^2} + b(x) \frac d{dx} -V$ on an open interval of $\rr$, which is equivalent to the $L^1$-uniqueness of the associated Fokker-Planck equation. For a general elliptic operator $\LL^V:=Δ+b \cdot\nabla -V$ on a Riemannian manifold, we obtain sharp sufficient conditions for the $L^1$-uniqueness of the Fokker-Planck equation associated with $\LL^V$, via comparison with a one-dimensional Sturm-Liouville operator. Furthermore the $L^1$-Liouville property is derived as a direct consequence of the $L^\infty$-uniqueness of $\LL^V$.

Differential Harnack inequalities and Perelman type entropy formulae for subelliptic operators

In this paper, under the generalized curvature-dimension inequality recently introduced by F. Baudoin and N. Garofalo, we obtain differential Harnack inequalities for the positive solutions to the Schödinger equation associated to subelliptic operator with potential. As applications of the differential Harnack inequality, we derive the corresponding parabolic Harnack inequality. Also we define the Perelman type entropy associated to subelliptic operators and derive its monotonicity.

Possible nodal superconducting gap in Fe$_{1+y}$(Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{x}$) single crystals from ultra-low temperature penetration depth measurements

Using a radio frequency tunnel diode oscillator technique, we measured the temperature dependence of the in-plane London penetration depth $Δλ_{ab}(T)$ in Fe$_{1+y}$(Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{x})$ single crystals, down to temperatures as low as 50 mK. A significant number of samples, with nominal Se concentration $x$=0.36, 0.40, 0.43 and 0.45 respectively, were studied and in many cases we found that $Δλ_{ab}(T)$ shows an upturn below 0.7 K, indicative of a paramagnetic type contribution. After subtracting the magnetic background, the low temperature behavior of penetration depth is best described by a power law with exponent $n\approx2$ and with no systematic dependence on the Se concentration. Most importantly, in the limit of T$\rightarrow$0, in some samples we observed a narrow region of linear temperature dependence of penetration depth, suggestive of nodes in the superconducting gap of Fe$_{1+y}$(Te$_{1-x}$Se$_{x})$.

Asymptotic estimates on the time derivative of $Φ$-entropy on Riemannian manifolds

In this note, we obtain the asymptotic estimate for the time derivative of the $Φ$-entropy in terms of the lower bound on the Bakry-Emery $Γ_2$ curvature. In the cases of Hyperbolic space and Heisenberg group, we show that the time derivative of the $Φ$-entropy is non-increasing, and we also get sharp asymptotic bound for the time derivative of the entropy in the Heisenberg group.

Positive curvature property for sub-Laplace on nilpotent Lie group of rank two

In this note, we concentrate on the sub-Laplace on the nilpotent Lie group of rank two, which is the infinitesimal generator of the diffusion generated by $n$ Brownian motions and their $\frac{n(n-1)}2$ Lévy area processes, which is the simple extension of the sub-Laplace on the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}$. In order to study contraction properties of the heat kernel, we show that, as in the cases of the Heisenberg group and the three Brownian motion model, the restriction of the sub-Laplace acting on radial functions (see Definition \ref{radial fun}) satisfies a positive Ricci curvature condition (more precisely a $CD(0, \infty)$ inequality, see Theorem \ref{positive}, whereas the operator itself does not satisfy any $CD(r,\infty)$ inequality. From this we may deduce some useful, sharp gradient bounds for the associated heat kernel. It can be seen a generalization of the paper \cite{Qian2}.

Positive curvature property for some hypoelliptic heat kernels

In this note, we look at some hypoelliptic operators arising from nilpotent rank 2 Lie algebras. In particular, we concentrate on the diffusion generated by three Brownian motions and their three Lévy areas, which is the simplest extension of the Laplacian on the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}$. In order to study contraction properties of the heat kernel, we show that, as in the case of the Heisenberg group, the restriction of the sub-Laplace operator acting on radial functions (which are defined in some precise way in the core of the paper) satisfies a non negative Ricci curvature condition (more precisely a $CD(0, \infty)$ inequality), whereas the operator itself does not satisfy any $CD(r,\infty)$ inequality. From this we may deduce some useful, sharp gradient bounds for the associated heat kernel.

Incommensurate itinerant antiferromagnetic excitations and spin resonance in the FeTe$_{0.6}$Se$_{0.4}$ superconductor

We report on inelastic neutron scattering measurements that find incommensurate itinerant like magnetic excitations in the normal state of superconducting FeTe$_{0.6}$Se$_{0.4}$ (\Tc=14K) at wave-vector $\mathbf{Q}_{inc}=(1/2\pmε,1/2\mpε)$ with $ε$=0.09(1). In the superconducting state only the lower energy part of the spectrum shows significant changes by the formation of a gap and a magnetic resonance that follows the dispersion of the normal state excitations. We use a four band model to describe the Fermi surface topology of iron-based superconductors with the extended $s(\pm)$ symmetry and find that it qualitatively captures the salient features of these data.
