GCRank: A Generative Contextual Comprehension Paradigm for Takeout Ranking Model

The ranking stage serves as the central optimization and allocation hub in advertising systems, governing economic value distribution through eCPM and orchestrating the user-centric blending of organic and advertising content. Prevailing ranking models often rely on fragmented modules and hand-crafted features, limiting their ability to interpret complex user intent. This challenge is further amplified in location-based services such as food delivery, where user decisions are shaped by dynamic spatial, temporal, and individual contexts. To address these limitations, we propose a novel generative framework that reframes ranking as a context comprehension task, modeling heterogeneous signals in a unified architecture. Our architecture consists of two core components: the Generative Contextual Encoder (GCE) and the Generative Contextual Fusion (GCF). The GCE comprises three specialized modules: a Personalized Context Enhancer (PCE) for user-specific modeling, a Collective Context Enhancer (CCE) for group-level patterns, and a Dynamic Context Enhancer (DCE) for real-time situational adaptation. The GCF module then seamlessly integrates these contextual representations through low-rank adaptation. Extensive experiments confirm that our method achieves significant gains in critical business metrics, including click-through rate and platform revenue. We have successfully deployed our method on a large-scale food delivery advertising platform, demonstrating its substantial practical impact. This work pioneers a new perspective on generative recommendation and highlights its practical potential in industrial advertising systems.

Alleviating Cold-start Problem in CTR Prediction with A Variational Embedding Learning Framework

We propose a general Variational Embedding Learning Framework (VELF) for alleviating the severe cold-start problem in CTR prediction. VELF addresses the cold start problem via alleviating over-fits caused by data-sparsity in two ways: learning probabilistic embedding, and incorporating trainable and regularized priors which utilize the rich side information of cold start users and advertisements (Ads). The two techniques are naturally integrated into a variational inference framework, forming an end-to-end training process. Abundant empirical tests on benchmark datasets well demonstrate the advantages of our proposed VELF. Besides, extended experiments confirmed that our parameterized and regularized priors provide more generalization capability than traditional fixed priors.

Gating-adapted Wavelet Multiresolution Analysis for Exposure Sequence Modeling in CTR prediction

The exposure sequence is being actively studied for user interest modeling in Click-Through Rate (CTR) prediction. However, the existing methods for exposure sequence modeling bring extensive computational burden and neglect noise problems, resulting in an excessively latency and the limited performance in online recommenders. In this paper, we propose to address the high latency and noise problems via Gating-adapted wavelet multiresolution analysis (Gama), which can effectively denoise the extremely long exposure sequence and adaptively capture the implied multi-dimension user interest with linear computational complexity. This is the first attempt to integrate non-parametric multiresolution analysis technique into deep neural networks to model user exposure sequence. Extensive experiments on large scale benchmark dataset and real production dataset confirm the effectiveness of Gama for exposure sequence modeling, especially in cold-start scenarios. Benefited from its low latency and high effecitveness, Gama has been deployed in our real large-scale industrial recommender, successfully serving over hundreds of millions users.

Integrated thin-film lithium niobate (LN) electro-optic (EO) modulators of broad bandwidth, low insertion loss, low cost and high production rate are essential elements in contemporary inter-connection industries and disruptive applications. Here, we demonstrated the design and fabri-cation of a high performance thin-film LN EO modulator using photolithography assisted chemo-mechanical etching (PLACE) technology. Our device shows a 3-dB bandwidth over 50 GHz, along with a comparable low half wave voltage-length product of 2.16 Vcm. We obtain a fiber-to-fiber insertion loss of 2.6 dB.

JDRec: Practical Actor-Critic Framework for Online Combinatorial Recommender System

A combinatorial recommender (CR) system feeds a list of items to a user at a time in the result page, in which the user behavior is affected by both contextual information and items. The CR is formulated as a combinatorial optimization problem with the objective of maximizing the recommendation reward of the whole list. Despite its importance, it is still a challenge to build a practical CR system, due to the efficiency, dynamics, personalization requirement in online environment. In particular, we tear the problem into two sub-problems, list generation and list evaluation. Novel and practical model architectures are designed for these sub-problems aiming at jointly optimizing effectiveness and efficiency. In order to adapt to online case, a bootstrap algorithm forming an actor-critic reinforcement framework is given to explore better recommendation mode in long-term user interaction. Offline and online experiment results demonstrate the efficacy of proposed JDRec framework. JDRec has been applied in online JD recommendation, improving click through rate by 2.6% and synthetical value for the platform by 5.03%. We will publish the large-scale dataset used in this study to contribute to the research community.

Monolithically integrated active passive waveguide array fabricated on thin film lithium niobate using a single continuous photolithography process

We demonstrate a robust low-loss optical interface by tiling passive (i.e., without doping of active ions) thin film lithium niobate (TFLN) and active (i.e., doped with rare earth ions) TFLN substrates for monolithic integration of passive/active lithium niobate photonics. The tiled substrates composed of both active and passive areas allow to pattern the mask of the integrated active passive photonic device at once using a single continuous photolithography process. The interface loss of tiled substrate is measured as low as 0.26 dB. Thanks to the stability provided by this approach, a four-channel waveguide amplifier is realized in a straightforward manner, which shows a net gain of ~5 dB at 1550-nm wavelength and that of ~8 dB at 1530-nm wavelength for each channel. The robust low-loss optical interface for passive/active photonic integration will facilitate large-scale high performance photonic devices which require on-chip light sources and amplifiers.

Monolithically integrated waveguide-coupled single-frequency microlaser on erbium-doped thin film lithium niobate

We overcome the difficulty in realizing a monolithic waveguide-coupled microring laser integrated on erbium-doped thin film lithium niobate (Er: TFLN) using photolithography assisted chemo-mechanical etching (PLACE) technique. We demonstrate an integrated single-frequency microring laser operating around 1531 nm wavelength. The PLACE technique, enabling integrated Er: TFLN photonics with low propagation loss, can thus be used to realize low cost mass production of monolithic on-chip microlasers with applications ranging from optical communication and photonic integrated circuit (PIC) to precision metrology and large-scale sensing.

On-chip integrated Yb3+-doped waveguide amplifiers on thin film lithium niobate

We report the fabrication and optical characterization of Yb3+-doped waveguide amplifiers (YDWA) on the thin film lithium niobate fabricated by photolithography assisted chemo-mechanical etching. The fabricated Yb3+-doped lithium niobate waveguides demonstrates low propagation loss of 0.13 dB/cm at 1030 nm and 0.1 dB/cm at 1060 nm. The internal net gain of 5 dB at 1030 nm and 8 dB at 1060 nm are measured on a 4.0 cm long waveguide pumped by 976nm laser diodes, indicating the gain per unit length of 1.25 dB/cm at 1030 nm and 2 dB/cm at 1060 nm, respectively. The integrated Yb3+-doped lithium niobate waveguide amplifiers will benefit the development of a powerful gain platform and are expected to contribute to the high-density integration of thin film lithium niobate based photonic chip.

We demonstrate on-chip light amplification with integrated optical waveguide fabricated on erbium-doped thin film lithium niobate on insulator (TFLNOI) using the photolithography assisted chemo-mechanical etching (PLACE) technique. A maximum internal net gain of 18 dB in the small-signal-gain regime is measured at the peak emission wavelength of 1530 nm for a waveguide length of 3.6 cm, indicating a differential gain per unit length of 5 dB/cm. We report fabrication of low loss single mode waveguides on lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) cladded by a layer of SiO2. Our technique, termed photolithography assisted chemo-mechanical etching (PLACE), relies on patterning of a chromium film into the mask shape by femtosecond laser micromachining and subsequent chemo-mechanical etching of the lithium niobate thin film. The high-index-contrast single mode waveguide is measured to have a propagation loss of 0.13 dB/cm. Furthermore, waveguide tapers are fabricated for boosting the coupling efficiency.

Efficient Electro-optical Tuning of Optical Frequency Microcomb on a Monolithically Integrated High-Q Lithium Niobate Microdisk

We demonstrate efficient tuning of a monolithically integrated lithium niobate microdisk (LN) optical frequency microcomb. Utilizing the high optical quality (Q) factor (i.e., Q~7.1*10^6) of the microdisk, the microcomb spans over a spectral bandwidth of ~200 nm at a pump power as low as 20.4 mW. Combining the large eletro-optic coefficient of LN and optimum design of the geometry of microelectrodes, we demonstrate electro-optical tuning of the comb with a spectral range of 400 pm and a tuning efficiency of ~38 pm/100V.

Polarization-insensitive space-selective etching in fused silica induced by picosecond laser irradiation

It is well known that when the fused silica is irradiated with focused femtosecond laser beams, space selective chemical etching can be achieved. The etching rate depends sensitively on the polarization of the laser. Surprisingly, we observe that by chirping the Fourier-transform-limited femtosecond laser pulses to picosecond pulses, the polarization dependence of the etching rate disappears, whereas an efficient etching rate can still be maintained. Observation with a scanning electron microscope reveals that the chirped pulses can induce interconnected nanocracks in the irradiated areas which facilitates efficient introduction of the etchant into the microchannel. The reported technology is of great use for fabrication of three-dimensional (3D) microfluidic systems and glass-based 3D printing.

Phase matched second harmonic generation in an on-chip lithium niobate microresonator fabricated by femtosecond laser

Nonlinear optical processes in whispering gallery mode (WGM) microresonators have attracted much attention. Owing to the strong confinement of light in a small volume, a WGM microresonator can dramatically boost the strength of light field, thereby promoting the nonlinear interaction between the light and the resonator material. However, realization of efficient nonlinear parametric process in microresonators is a challenging issue. The major difficulty is to simultaneously ensure the phase matching condition and a coherent multiple resonance condition for all the waves participating in the nonlinear conversion process. Here, we demonstrate highly efficient second harmonic generation (SHG) in an on-chip lithium niobate microresonator fabricated by femtosecond laser direct writing. We overcome the difficulty of double resonance for the phase matched pump and second harmonic waves by selectively exciting high order modes in the fabricated thin-disk microresonator. Our technique opens opportunities for integrated classical and quantum photonic applications.

On-chip tuning of the resonant wavelength in a high-Q microresonator integrated with a microheater

We report on fabrication of a microtoroid resonator of high-quality (high-Q) factor integrated with an on-chip microheater. Both the microresonator and microheater are fabricated using femtosecond laser three-dimensional (3D) micromachining. The microheater, which is located about 200 micron away from the microresonator, has a footprint size of 200 micron by 400 micron. Tuning of the resonant wavelength in the microresonator has been achieved by varying the voltage applied on the microheater. The drifting of the resonant wavelength shows a linear dependence on the square of the voltage applied on the microheater. We found that the response time of the microresonator is less than 10 secs which is significantly shorter than the time required for reaching a thermal equilibrium on conventional heating instruments such as an external electric heater.

Second harmonic generation in a high-Q lithium niobate microresonator fabricated by femtosecond laser micromachining

We report on fabrication of high Q lithium niobate (LN) whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) microresonators suspended on silica pedestals by femtosecond laser microfabrication. The micrometer-scale (diameter ~82 μm) LN resonator possesses a Q factor of 2.5x10^5 around 1550 nm wavelength range. Moreover, second harmonic generation with a continuous-wave tunable single-longitudinal-mode pump laser in the on-chip LN microresonator is demonstrated in the on-chip LN microresonator. A fiber taper is employed to couple the pump laser into the microresonator, showing a normalized conversion efficiency of 1.35x10^-5/mW.
