BioProVLA-Agent: An Affordable, Protocol-Driven, Vision-Enhanced VLA-Enabled Embodied Multi-Agent System with Closed-Loop-Capable Reasoning for Biological Laboratory Manipulation

Biological laboratory automation can reduce repetitive manual work and improve reproducibility, but reliable embodied execution in wet-lab environments remains challenging. Protocols are often unstructured, labware is frequently transparent or reflective, and multi-step procedures require state-aware execution beyond one-shot instruction following. Existing robotic systems often rely on costly hardware, fixed workflows, dedicated instruments, or robotics-oriented interfaces. Here, we introduce BioProVLA-Agent, an affordable, protocol-driven, vision-enhanced embodied multi-agent system enabled by Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models for biological manipulation. The system uses protocols as the task interface and integrates protocol parsing, visual state verification, and embodied execution in a closed-loop workflow. A Tailored LLM Protocol Agent converts protocols into verifiable subtasks; a VLM-RAG Verification Agent assesses readiness and completion using observations, robot states, retrieved knowledge, and success/failure examples; and a VLA Embodied Agent executes verified subtasks through a lightweight policy. To improve robustness under wet-lab visual perturbations, we develop AugSmolVLA, an online augmentation strategy targeting transparent labware, reflections, illumination shifts, and overexposure. We evaluate the system on a hierarchical benchmark covering 15 atomic tasks, 6 composite workflows, and 3 bimanual tasks, including tube loading, sorting, waste disposal, cap twisting, and liquid pouring. Across normal and high-exposure settings, AugSmolVLA improves execution stability over ACT, X-VLA, and the original SmolVLA, especially for precise placement, transparent-object manipulation, composite workflows, and visually degraded scenes. These results suggest a practical route toward accessible, protocol-centered, and verification-capable embodied AI for biological manipulation.

Bridging Semantic Understanding and Popularity Bias with LLMs

Semantic understanding of popularity bias is a crucial yet underexplored challenge in recommender systems, where popular items are often favored at the expense of niche content. Most existing debiasing methods treat the semantic understanding of popularity bias as a matter of diversity enhancement or long-tail coverage, neglecting the deeper semantic layer that embodies the causal origins of the bias itself. Consequently, such shallow interpretations limit both their debiasing effectiveness and recommendation accuracy. In this paper, we propose FairLRM, a novel framework that bridges the gap in the semantic understanding of popularity bias with Recommendation via Large Language Model (RecLLM). FairLRM decomposes popularity bias into item-side and user-side components, using structured instruction-based prompts to enhance the model's comprehension of both global item distributions and individual user preferences. Unlike traditional methods that rely on surface-level features such as "diversity" or "debiasing", FairLRM improves the model's ability to semantically interpret and address the underlying bias. Through empirical evaluation, we show that FairLRM significantly enhances both fairness and recommendation accuracy, providing a more semantically aware and trustworthy approach to enhance the semantic understanding of popularity bias. EmoLat: Text-driven Image Sentiment Transfer via Emotion Latent Space

We propose EmoLat, a novel emotion latent space that enables fine-grained, text-driven image sentiment transfer by modeling cross-modal correlations between textual semantics and visual emotion features. Within EmoLat, an emotion semantic graph is constructed to capture the relational structure among emotions, objects, and visual attributes. To enhance the discriminability and transferability of emotion representations, we employ adversarial regularization, aligning the latent emotion distributions across modalities. Building upon EmoLat, a cross-modal sentiment transfer framework is proposed to manipulate image sentiment via joint embedding of text and EmoLat features. The network is optimized using a multi-objective loss incorporating semantic consistency, emotion alignment, and adversarial regularization. To support effective modeling, we construct EmoSpace Set, a large-scale benchmark dataset comprising images with dense annotations on emotions, object semantics, and visual attributes. Extensive experiments on EmoSpace Set demonstrate that our approach significantly outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods in both quantitative metrics and qualitative transfer fidelity, establishing a new paradigm for controllable image sentiment editing guided by textual input. EPD-Serve: A Flexible Multimodal EPD Disaggregation Inference Serving System On Ascend

With the widespread adoption of large multimodal models, efficient inference across text, image, audio, and video modalities has become critical. However, existing multimodal inference systems typically employ monolithic architectures that tightly couple the Encode, Prefill, and Decode stages on homogeneous hardware, neglecting the heterogeneous computational characteristics of each stage. This design leads to inefficient resource utilization and limited system throughput. To address these issues, we propose EPD-Serve, a stage-level disaggregated inference serving system for multimodal models. EPD-Serve decouples the inference pipeline into independent Encode, Prefill, and Decode stages, enabling logical isolation and flexible co-located deployment through dynamic orchestration. Leveraging the Ascend interconnect topology, EPD-Serve introduces asynchronous feature prefetching between Encode and Prefill stages and a hierarchical grouped KV cache transmission mechanism between Prefill and Decode stages to improve cross-node communication efficiency. In addition, EPD-Serve incorporates multi-route scheduling, instance-level load balancing, and multi-stage hardware co-location with spatial multiplexing to better support diverse multimodal workloads. Comprehensive experiments on multimodal understanding models demonstrate that, under high-concurrency scenarios, EPD-Serve improves end-to-end throughput by 57.37-69.48% compared to PD-disaggregated deployment, while satisfying strict SLO constraints, including TTFT below 2000 ms and TPOT below 50 ms. These results highlight the effectiveness of stage-level disaggregation for optimizing multimodal large model inference systems.

Hardwired-Neurons Language Processing Units as General-Purpose Cognitive Substrates

The rapid advancement of Large Language Models (LLMs) has established language as a core general-purpose cognitive substrate, driving the demand for specialized Language Processing Units (LPUs) tailored for LLM inference. To overcome the growing energy consumption of LLM inference systems, this paper proposes a Hardwired-Neurons Language Processing Unit (HNLPU), which physically hardwires LLM weight parameters into the computational fabric, achieving several orders of magnitude computational efficiency improvement by extreme specialization. However, a significant challenge still lies in the scale of modern LLMs. A straightforward hardwiring of gpt-oss 120 B would require fabricating photomask sets valued at over 6 billion dollars, rendering this straightforward solution economically impractical. Addressing this challenge, we propose the novel Metal-Embedding methodology. Instead of embedding weights in a 2D grid of silicon device cells, Metal-Embedding embeds weight parameters into the 3D topology of metal wires. This brings two benefits: (1) a 15x increase in density, and (2) 60 out of 70 photomask layers are homogeneous across chips, including all EUV photomasks. In total, Metal-Embedding reduced the photomask cost by 112x, bringing the Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) cost of HNLPU into an economically viable range. Experimental results show that HNLPU achieved 249,960 tokens/s (5,555x/85x that of GPU/WSE), 36 tokens/J (1,047x/283x that of GPU/WSE), 13,232 mm2 total die area, $59.46 M-123.5 M estimated NRE at 5 nm technology. Analysis shows that HNLPU achieved 41.7-80.4x improvement in cost-effectiveness and 357x reduction in carbon footprint compared to OpenAI-scale H100 clusters, under an annual weight updating assumption.

TERGAD: Structure-Aware Text-Enhanced Representations for Graph Anomaly Detection

Graph Anomaly Detection (GAD) aims to identify atypical graph entities, such as nodes, edges, or substructures, that deviate significantly from the majority. While existing text-rich approaches typically integrate structural context into the data representation pipeline using raw textual features, they often neglect the structural context of nodes. This limitation hinders their ability to detect sophisticated anomalies arising from inconsistencies between a node's inherent content and its topological role. To bridge this gap, we propose TERGAD (Structure-aware Text-enhanced Representations for Graph Anomaly Detection), A novel data augmentation framework that enriches structural semantics for GAD via the semantic reasoning capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs). Specifically, TERGAD translates node-level topological properties into descriptive natural language narratives, which are subsequently processed by an LLM to derive high-level semantic embeddings. These embeddings are then adaptively fused with original node attributes through a gated dual-branch autoencoder to jointly reconstruct both graph structure and node features. The anomaly score is computed based on the integrated reconstruction error, effectively capturing deviations in both observable attributes and LLM-informed semantic expectations. Extensive experiments on six real-world datasets demonstrate that TERGAD consistently outperforms state-of-the-art baselines. Furthermore, our ablation studies validate the indispensable role of structural semantic guidance and the efficacy of the gated fusion mechanism. UFO: A Unified Flow-Oriented Framework for Robust Continual Graph Learning

Graph learning research has increasingly shifted toward continual graph learning (CGL), which better reflects real-world scenarios where graphs evolve over time. However, existing CGL methods largely assume clean supervision and overlook a critical challenge: the newly arriving portions of the graph are often noisy, due to annotation errors or adversarial corruption. This mismatch limits their applicability in practice. In this work, we study robust continual graph learning, where models must simultaneously handle catastrophic forgetting and noisy supervision in evolving graph data. We show that label noise introduces a new failure mode, catastrophic remembering, where models persistently reinforce corrupted knowledge across tasks. To address these challenges, we propose a Unified Flow-Oriented framework (UFO). First, UFO models conditional feature distributions via flow-based generative modeling and produces replay representations, mitigating forgetting without storing historical data. Second, UFO estimates instance-level reliability scores to distinguish clean from noisy nodes, reducing the impact of corrupted supervision and alleviating catastrophic remembering. Extensive experiments on four benchmark graph datasets under varying noise ratios demonstrate that UFO consistently outperforms existing methods in both accuracy and forgetting metrics. Universal and non-universal contributions of entanglement under different bipartitions

Entanglement entropy (EE) is a fundamental probe of quantum phases and critical phenomena, which was thought to reflect only bulk universality for a long time. Very recently, people realized that the microscopic geometry of the entanglement cut can induce distinct entanglement-edge modes, whose coupling to bulk critical fluctuations may alter the scaling of the EE. However, this perception is very qualitative and lacks quantitative consideration. Here, we investigate this problem through high-precision quantum Monte Carlo simulations combined with the analysis of scaling theory to build a quantitative understanding. By considering three distinct bipartitions corresponding to three surface criticality types, we reveal a striking dependence of the constant term γ on the microscopic cut at the quantum critical point. Notably, cuts that generate extra gapless edge modes yield a sign reversal in γ compared to those producing gapped edges. We explain this behavior via a modified scaling form that incorporates contributions from both bulk and surface critical modes. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the derivative of EE robustly extracts the bulk critical point and exponent ν regardless of the cut geometry, providing a reliable diagnostic of bulk universality in the presence of strong surface effects. Our work for the first time establishes a direct quantitative connection between surface criticality and entanglement scaling, challenging the conventional view that EE solely reflects bulk properties and offering a refined framework for interpreting entanglement in systems with boundary-sensitive criticality.
