Strong-Coupling Superconductivity with $T_c$ $\sim$ 10.8 K Induced by P Doping in the Topological Semimetal Mo$_5$Si$_3$

By performing P doping on the Si sites in the topological semimetal Mo$_5$Si$_3$, we discover strong-coupling superconductivity in Mo$_5$Si$_{3-x}$P$_x$ (0.5 $\le$ $x$ $\le$ 2.0). Mo$_5$Si$_3$ crystallizes in the W$_5$Si$_3$-type structure with space group of $I4/mcm$ (No. 140), and is not a superconductor itself. Upon P doping, the lattice parameter $a$ decreases while $c$ increases monotonously. Bulk superconductivity is revealed in Mo$_5$Si$_{3-x}$P$_x$ (0.5 $\le$ $x$ $\le$ 2.0) from resistivity, magnetization, and heat capacity measurements. $T_c$ in Mo$_5$Si$_{1.5}$P$_{1.5}$ reaches as high as 10.8 K, setting a new record among the W$_5$Si$_3$-type superconductors. The upper and lower critical fields for Mo$_5$Si$_{1.5}$P$_{1.5}$ are 14.56 T and 105 mT, respectively. Moreover, Mo$_5$Si$_{1.5}$P$_{1.5}$ is found to be a fully gapped superconductor with strong electron-phonon coupling. First-principles calculations suggest that the enhancement of electron-phonon coupling is possibly due to the shift of the Fermi level, which is induced by electron doping. The calculations also reveal the nontrivial band topology in Mo$_5$Si$_3$. The $T_c$ and upper critical field in Mo$_5$Si$_{3-x}$P$_x$ are fairly high among pseudobinary compounds. Both of them are higher than those in NbTi, making future applications promising. Our results suggest that the W$_5$Si$_3$-type compounds are ideal platforms to search for new superconductors. By examinations of their band topologies, more candidates for topological superconductors can be expected in this structural family.

How to Identify Boundary Conditions with Contrasty Metric?

The boundary conditions (BCs) have shown great potential in requirements engineering because a BC captures the particular combination of circumstances, i.e., divergence, in which the goals of the requirement cannot be satisfied as a whole. Existing researches have attempted to automatically identify lots of BCs. Unfortunately, a large number of identified BCs make assessing and resolving divergences expensive. Existing methods adopt a coarse-grained metric, generality, to filter out less general BCs. However, the results still retain a large number of redundant BCs since a general BC potentially captures redundant circumstances that do not lead to a divergence. Furthermore, the likelihood of BC can be misled by redundant BCs resulting in costly repeatedly assessing and resolving divergences. In this paper, we present a fine-grained metric to filter out the redundant BCs. We first introduce the concept of contrasty of BC. Intuitively, if two BCs are contrastive, they capture different divergences. We argue that a set of contrastive BCs should be recommended to engineers, rather than a set of general BCs that potentially only indicates the same divergence. Then we design a post-processing framework (PPAc) to produce a set of contrastive BCs after identifying BCs. Experimental results show that the contrasty metric dramatically reduces the number of BCs recommended to engineers. Results also demonstrate that lots of BCs identified by the state-of-the-art method are redundant in most cases. Besides, to improve efficiency, we propose a joint framework (JAc) to interleave assessing based on the contrasty metric with identifying BCs. The primary intuition behind JAc is that it considers the search bias toward contrastive BCs during identifying BCs, thereby pruning the BCs capturing the same divergence. Experiments confirm the improvements of JAc in identifying contrastive BCs.

On the gauge transformation for the rotation of the singular string in the Dirac monopole theory

In the Dirac theory of the quantum-mechanical interaction of a magnetic monopole and an electric charge, the vector potential is singular from the origin to infinity along certain direction - the so called Dirac string. Imposing the famous quantization condition, the singular string attached to the monopole can be rotated arbitrarily by a gauge transformation, and hence is not physically observable. By deriving its analytical expression and analyzing its properties, we show that the gauge function $χ({\bf r})$ which rotates the string to another one has quite complicated behaviors depending on which side from which the position variable ${\bf r}$ gets across the plane expanded by the two strings. Consequently, some misunderstandings in the literature are clarified.

Chaos Phase Induced Mass-producible Monolayer Two-dimensional Material

Crystal phase is well studied and presents a periodical atom arrangement in three dimensions lattice, but the "amorphous phase" is poorly understood. Here, by starting from cage-like bicyclocalix[2]arene[2]triazines building block, a brand-new 2D MOF is constructed with extremely weak interlaminar interaction existing between two adjacent 2D-crystal layer. Inter-layer slip happens under external disturbance and leads to the loss of periodicity at one dimension in the crystal lattice, resulting in an interim phase between the crystal and amorphous phase - the chaos phase, non-periodical in microscopic scale but orderly in mesoscopic scale. This chaos phase 2D MOF is a disordered self-assembly of black-phosphorus like 3D-layer, which has excellent mechanical-strength and a thickness of 1.15 nm. The bulky 2D-MOF material is readily to be exfoliated into monolayer nanosheets in gram-scale with unprecedented evenness and homogeneity, as well as previously unattained lateral size (>10 um), which present the first mass-producible monolayer 2D material and can form wafer-scale film on substrate.

INDIGO-DataCloud:A data and computing platform to facilitate seamless access to e-infrastructures

This paper describes the achievements of the H2020 project INDIGO-DataCloud. The project has provided e-infrastructures with tools, applications and cloud framework enhancements to manage the demanding requirements of scientific communities, either locally or through enhanced interfaces. The middleware developed allows to federate hybrid resources, to easily write, port and run scientific applications to the cloud. In particular, we have extended existing PaaS (Platform as a Service) solutions, allowing public and private e-infrastructures, including those provided by EGI, EUDAT, and Helix Nebula, to integrate their existing services and make them available through AAI services compliant with GEANT interfederation policies, thus guaranteeing transparency and trust in the provisioning of such services. Our middleware facilitates the execution of applications using containers on Cloud and Grid based infrastructures, as well as on HPC clusters. Our developments are freely downloadable as open source components, and are already being integrated into many scientific applications.

Vector invariant fields of finite classical groups

Let $W$ be an $n$-dimensional vector space over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ of any characteristic and $mW$ denote the direct sum of $m$ copies of $W$. Let $\mathbb{F}_q[mW]^{{\rm GL}(W)}$ and $\mathbb{F}_q(mW)^{{\rm GL}(W)}$ denote the vector invariant ring and vector invariant field respectively where ${\rm GL}(W)$ acts on $W$ in the standard way and acts on $mW$ diagonally. We prove that there exists a set of homogeneous invariant polynomials $\{f_{1},f_{2},\ldots,f_{mn}\}\subseteq \mathbb{F}_q[mW]^{{\rm GL}(W)}$ such that $\mathbb{F}_q(mW)^{{\rm GL}(W)}=\mathbb{F}_q(f_{1},f_{2},\ldots,f_{mn}).$ We also prove the same assertions for the special linear groups and the symplectic groups in any characteristic, and the unitary groups and the orthogonal groups in odd characteristic.

Derivations, Automorphisms, and Representations of Complex $ω$-Lie Algebras

Let $(\mathfrak{g},ω)$ be a finite-dimensional non-Lie complex $ω$-Lie algebra. We study the derivation algebra $Der(\mathfrak{g})$ and the automorphism group $Aut(\mathfrak{g})$ of $(\mathfrak{g},ω)$. We introduce the notions of $ω$-derivations and $ω$-automorphisms of $(\mathfrak{g},ω)$ which naturally preserve the bilinear form $ω$. We show that the set $Der_ω(\mathfrak{g})$ of all $ω$-derivations is a Lie subalgebra of $Der(\mathfrak{g})$ and the set $Aut_ω(\mathfrak{g})$ of all $ω$-automorphisms is a subgroup of $Aut(\mathfrak{g})$. For any 3-dimensional and 4-dimensional nontrivial $ω$-Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$, we compute $Der(\mathfrak{g})$ and $Aut(\mathfrak{g})$ explicitly, and study some Lie group properties of $Aut(\mathfrak{g})$. We also study representation theory of $ω$-Lie algebras. We show that all 3-dimensional nontrivial $ω$-Lie algebras are multiplicative, as well as we provide a 4-dimensional example of $ω$-Lie algebra that is not multiplicative. Finally, we show that any irreducible representation of the simple $ω$-Lie algebra $C_α(α\neq 0,-1)$ is 1-dimensional.

Achieving ultrahigh carrier mobility and photo-responsivity in solution-processed perovskite/carbon nanotubes phototransistors

Organolead trihalide perovskites have drawn substantial interest for applications in photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices due to their low processing cost and remarkable physical properties. However, perovskite thin films still suffer from low carrier mobility, limiting their device performance and application potential. Here we report that embedding single-walled carbon nanotubes into halide perovskite films can significantly enhance the hole and electron mobilities to record-high values of 595.3 and 108.7 cm2 V-1 s-1, respectively. In the ambipolar phototransistors with such hybrid channels, photo-carriers generated in the light-absorbing perovskite matrix are transported by the carbon nanotubes, leading to ultrahigh detectivity of 6 * 1014 Jones and responsivity of 1 * 104 A W-1. We find that the perovskite precursor in dimethylformamide solution serve as an excellent stabilizer for the dispersion of carbon nanotubes, which potentially extend the scope of applications of perovskites in solution-processed functional composites. The unprecedented high performances underscore the perovskite/carbon nanotubes hybrids as an emerging class of functional materials in optoelectronic and other applications.

Average Secrecy Capacity of Free-Space Optical Communication Systems with On-Off Keying Modulation and Threshold Detection

This paper considers secure communication over free-space optical (FSO) links suffering from turbulence-induced fading. In particular, we study the average secrecy capacity of applying physical layer security to achieve security in an FSO communication system with binary-level on-off keying intensity modulation and threshold detection, a widely used system in FSO communication. We first define the instantaneous secrecy capacity for our system and then provide a lower bound of it, which is achieved based on a simple design principle for practical applications and yields a simpler equation. We next derive a general expression of the average secrecy capacity and the corresponding lower bound based on bit error probabilities. Finally, numerical analysis is conducted for the special case of the correlated log-normal fading model to show the impacts of fading and channel correlation on the average secrecy capacity.

Capacity and Delay-Throughput Tradeoff in ICMNs with Poisson Meeting Process

Intermittently connected mobile networks (ICMNs) serve as an important network model for many critical applications. This paper focuses on a continuous ICMN model where the pair-wise meeting process between network nodes follows a homogeneous and independent Poisson process. This ICMN model is known to serve as good approximations to a class of important ICMNs with mobility models like random waypoint and random direction, so it is widely adopted in the performance study of ICMNs. This paper studies the throughput capacity and delay-throughput tradeoff in the considered ICMNs with Poisson meeting process. For the concerned ICMN, we first derive an exact expression of its throughput capacity based on the pairwise meeting rate therein and analyze the expected end-to-end packet delay under a routing algorithm that can achieve the throughput capacity. We then explore the inherent tradeoff between delay and throughput and establish a necessary condition for such tradeoff that holds under any routing algorithm in the ICMN. To illustrate the applicability of the theoretical results, case studies are further conducted for the random waypoint and random direction mobility models. Finally, simulation and numerical results are provided to verify the efficiency of our theoretical capacity/delay results and to illustrate our findings.

Classification of three dimensional complex omega-Lie algebras

A complex $ω$-Lie algebra is a vector space $L$ over the complex field, equipped with a skew symmetric bracket $[-,-]$ and a bilinear form $ω$ such that $$[[x,y],z]+[[y,z],x]+ [[z,x],y]=ω(x,y)z+ω(y,z)x+ω(z,x)y$$ for all $x,y,z\in L$. The notion of $ω$-Lie algebras, as a generalization of Lie algebras, was introduced in Nurowski \cite{Nur2007}. Fundamental results about finite-dimensional $ω$-Lie algebras were developed by Zusmanovich \cite{Zus2010}. In \cite{Nur2007}, all three dimensional non-Lie real $ω$-Lie algebras were classified. The purpose of this note is to provide an approach to classify all three dimensional non-Lie complex $ω$-Lie algebras. Our method also gives a new proof of the classification in Nurowski \cite{Nur2007}.

Noether's problem for p-groups of order p^{5}

Let $k$ be any field, $p>3$ be any prime number and $G$ be a nonabelian $p$-group of order $p^{5}$. Consider the action of $G$ on the rational function field $k(x_{h}:h\in G)$ by $g\cdot x_{h}=x_{gh}$ for all $g,h\in G$. Let $e$ be the exponent of $G$. Noether's problem asks whether the fixed field $k(G)=k(x_{h}:h\in G)^{G}$ is rational (i.e., purely transcendental) over $k$. In this paper, we will prove that if $G$ does not belong to the isoclinic family $Φ_{10}$ in James's classification \cite{Jam1980} and $k$ contains a primitive $e$th root of unity, then $k(G)$ is rational over $k$. As a corollary, if $k=\textbf{C}$ is the field of complex numbers, then $\textbf{C}(G)$ is rational over $\textbf{C}$ if and only if $G$ is not in the family $Φ_{10}$. This refines a recent result of Hoshi, Kang and Kunyavskii (\cite{HKK2012}, Theorem 1.12).

Noether's problem for p-groups with three generators

Let $p$ be an odd prime and $G$ be a nonabelian group of order $p^{n}$ with the presentation $$<α,β,γ\mid α^{p^{a}}=β^{p^{b}}=γ^{p^{c}}=1, [α,γ]=1,[γ,β]=α^{p^{r}},[α,β]=γ^{p^{e}}>,$$ where $n>a\geq b\geq c\geq 1$. Let $k$ be a field containing a primitive $p^{a}$-th root of unity and $G$ act on the rational function field $k(x_{h}:h\in G)$ by $g\cdot x_{h}=x_{gh}$ for all $g,h\in G$. In this note, we prove that the fixed field $k(G)=k(x_{h}:h\in G)^{G}$ is rational over $k$. As a corollary, we prove that if $k$ contains a primitive $p^{4}$-th root of unity and $G$ is a nonabelian group of order $p^{5}$ generated by three elements, then $k(G)$ is rational over $k$.

Secrecy Transmission Capacity in Noisy Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

This paper considers the transmission of confidential messages over noisy wireless ad hoc networks, where both background noise and interference from concurrent transmitters affect the received signals. For the random networks where the legitimate nodes and the eavesdroppers are distributed as Poisson point processes, we study the secrecy transmission capacity (STC), as well as the connection outage probability and secrecy outage probability, based on the physical layer security. We first consider the basic fixed transmission distance model, and establish a theoretical model of the STC. We then extend the above results to a more realistic random distance transmission model, namely nearest receiver transmission. Finally, extensive simulation and numerical results are provided to validate the efficiency of our theoretical results and illustrate how the STC is affected by noise, connection and secrecy outage probabilities, transmitter and eavesdropper densities, and other system parameters. Remarkably, our results reveal that a proper amount of noise is helpful to the secrecy transmission capacity.

On Modular Invariants of A Vector and A Covector

Let $SL_{2}(F_{q})$ be the special linear group over a finite field $F_{q}$, $V$ be the 2-dimensional natural representation of $SL_{2}(F_{q})$ and $V^{\ast}$ be the dual representation. We denote by $F_{q}[V\oplus V^{\ast}]^{SL_{2}(F_{q})}$ the corresponding invariant ring of a vector and a covector for $SL_{2}(F_{q})$. In this paper, we construct a free module basis over some homogeneous system of parameters of $F_{q}[V\oplus V^{\ast}]^{SL_{2}(F_{q})}$. We calculate the Hilbert series of $F_{q}[V\oplus V^{\ast}]^{SL_{2}(F_{q})}$, and prove that it is a Gorenstein algebra. As an application, we confirm a special case of the recent conjecture of Bonnafe and Kemper in 2011.

Some Varieties of Lie Rings

In this paper, several theorems of Macdonald \cite{Mac1961,Mac1962} on the varieties of nilpotent groups will be generalized to the case of Lie rings. We consider three varieties of Lie rings of any characteristic associated with some equations (see Eqs. (\ref{eq:1.1})-(\ref{eq:1.3}) below). We prove that each Lie ring in variety $(\ref{eq:1.1})$ is nilpotent of exponent at most $n+2$; if $L$ is a Lie ring in variety $(\ref{eq:1.2})$, then $L^{2}$ is nilpotent of exponent at most $n+1$; and each Lie ring in variety $(\ref{eq:1.3})$ is solvable of length at most $n+1$. Finally, we also discuss some varieties of solvable Lie rings and the varieties of Lie rings defined by the properties of subrings.
