Ergodicity of supercritical SDEs driven by $α$-stable processes and heavy-tailed sampling

Let $α\in(0,2)$ and $d\in\mathbb{N}$. Consider the following stochastic differential equation (SDE) driven by $α$-stable process in $\mathbb{R}^d$: $$ dX_t=b(X_t)dt+σ(X_{t-})d L^α_t, \quad X_0=x\in\mathbb{R}^d, $$ where $b:\mathbb{R}^d\to\mathbb{R}^d$ and $σ:\mathbb{R}^d\to\mathbb{R}^d\otimes\mathbb{R}^d$ are locally $γ$-Hölder continuous with $γ\in(0\vee(1-α)^+,1]$, $L^α_t$ is a $d$-dimensional rotationally invariant $α$-stable process. Under some dissipative and non-degenerate assumptions on $b,σ$, we show the $V$-uniformly exponential ergodicity for the semigroup $P_t$ associated with $(X_t(x),t\geq 0)$. Our proofs are mainly based on the heat kernel estimates recently established in \cite{MZ20} through showing the strong Feller property and the irreducibility of $P_t$. It is interesting that when $α$ goes to zero, the diffusion coefficient $σ$ can grow faster than drift $b$. As applications, we put forward a new heavy-tailed sampling scheme.

Second order McKean-Vlasov SDEs and kinetic Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equations

In this paper we study second order stochastic differential equations with measurable and density-distribution dependent coefficients. Through establishing a maximum principle for kinetic Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equations with distribution-valued inhomogeneous term, we show the existence of weak solutions under mild assumptions. Moreover, by using the Hölder regularity estimate obtained recently in \cite{GIMV19}, we also show the well-posedness of generalized martingale problems when diffusion coefficients only depend on the position variable (not necessarily continuous). Even in the non density-distribution dependent case, it seems that this is the first result about the well-posedness of SDEs with measurable diffusion coefficients.

Strong convergence of propagation of chaos for McKean-Vlasov SDEs with singular interactions

In this work we show the strong convergence of propagation of chaos for the particle approximation of McKean-Vlasov SDEs with singular $L^p$-interactions as well as for the moderate interaction particle systems on the level of particle trajectories. One of the main obstacles is to establish the strong well-posedness of the SDEs for particle systems with singular interaction. To this end, we extend the results on strong well-posedness of Krylov and Röckner \cite{Kr-Ro} to the case of mixed $L^p$-drifts, where the heat kernel estimates play a crucial role. Moreover, when the interaction kernel is bounded measurable, we also obtain the optimal rate of strong convergence, which is partially based on Jabin and Wang's entropy method \cite{JW16} and Zvonkin's transformation.

Cauchy Problem of Stochastic Kinetic Equations

In this paper we establish the optimal regularity estimates for the Cauchy problem of stochastic kinetic equations with random coefficients in anisotropic Besov spaces. As applications, we study the nonlinear filtering problem for a degenerate diffusion process, and obtain the existence and regularity of conditional probability densities under few assumptions. Moreover, we also show the well-posedness for a class of super-linear growth stochastic kinetic equations driven by velocity-time white noises, as well as a kinetic version of Parabolic Anderson Model with measure as initial values.

Euler scheme for density dependent stochastic differential equations

In this paper we show the existence and uniqueness for a class of density dependent SDEs with bounded measurable drift, where the existence part is based on Euler's approximation for density dependent SDEs and the uniqueness is based on the associated nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation. As an application, we obtain the well-posedness of a nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation.

Hölder regularity and gradient estimates Hölder regularity and gradient estimates for SDEs driven by cylindrical $α$-stable processes

We establish Hölder regularity and gradient estimates for the transition semigroup of the solutions to the following SDE: $$ {\rm d} X_t=σ(t, X_{t-}){\rm d} Z_t+b (t, X_t){\rm d} t,\ \ X_0=x\in{\mathbb R}^d, $$ where $( Z_t)_{t\geq 0}$ is a $d$-dimensional cylindrical $α$-stable process with $α\in (0, 2)$, $σ(t, x):{\mathbb R}_+\times{\mathbb R}^d\to{\mathbb R}^d\otimes{\mathbb R}^d$ is bounded measurable, uniformly nondegenerate and Lipschitz continuous in $x$ uniformly in $t$, and $b (t, x):{\mathbb R}_+\times{\mathbb R}^d\to{\mathbb R}^d$ is bounded $β$-Hölder continuous in $x$ uniformly in $t$ with $β\in[0,1]$ satisfying $α+β>1$. Moreover, we also show the existence and regularity of the distributional density of $X (t, x)$. Our proof is based on Littlewood-Paley's theory.

Singular HJB equations with applications to KPZ on the real line

This paper is devoted to studying the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations with distribution-valued coefficients, which is not well-defined in the classical sense and shall be understood by using paracontrolled distribution method introduced in \cite{GIP15}. By a new characterization of weighted Hölder space and Zvonkin's transformation we prove some new a priori estimates, and therefore, establish the global well-posedness for singular HJB equations. As an application, the global well-posedness for KPZ equations on the real line in polynomial weighted Hölder spaces is obtained without using Cole-Hopf's transformation. In particular, we solve the conjecture posed in \cite[Remark 1.1]{PR18}.

$L^p$-maximal hypoelliptic regularity of nonlocal kinetic Fokker-Planck operators

For $p\in(1,\infty)$, let $u(t,x,v)$ and $f(t,x,v)$ be in $L^p(\mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{R}^d \times \mathbb{R}^d)$ and satisfy the following nonlocal kinetic Fokker-Plank equation on $\mathbb{R}^{1+2d}$ in the weak sense: $$ \partial_t u+v\cdot\nabla_x u=Δ^{α/{2}}_v u+f, $$ where $α\in(0,2)$ and $Δ^{α/{2}}_v$ is the usual fractional Laplacian applied to $v$-variable. We show that there is a constant $C=C(p,α,d)>0$ such that for any $f(t, x, v)\in L^p(\mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{R}^d \times \mathbb{R}^d)=L^p(\mathbb{R}^{1+2d})$, $$ \|Δ_x^{α/{(2(1+α))}}u\|_p+\|Δ_v^{α/{2}}u\|_p\leq C\|f\|_p, $$ where $\|\cdot\|_p$ is the usual $L^p$-norm in $L^p(\mathbb{R}^{1+2d}; d z)$. In fact, in this paper the above inequality is established for a large class of time-dependent non-local kinetic Fokker-Plank equations on $\mathbb{R}^{1+2d}$, with $U_t v$ and $\mathscr{L}^{ν_t}_{σ_t}$ in place of $v\cdot \nabla_x$ and $Δ^{α/2}_v$. See Theorem 3.3 for details.

Heat kernels for non-symmetric diffusion operators with jumps

For $d\geq 2$, we establish the existence and uniqueness of heat kernels for a large class of time-dependent second order diffusion operator with jumps, which is the sum of time-dependent of a second order elliptic differential operators non-divergence form and a non-local $α$-stable-type operator with bounded time-dependent coefficient. Moreover, we obtain sharp two-sided estimates, gradient estimate and fractional derivative estimate for the heat kernels under some mild conditions. Our approach is mainly analytic but also uses some probabilistic techniques.

Uniqueness of stable-like processes

In this work we consider the following $α$-stable-like operator (a class of pseudo-differential operator) $$ {\mathscr L} f(x):=\int_{\mathbb R^d}[f(x+σ_x y)-f(x)-1_{α\in[1,2)}1_{|y|\leq 1}σ_x y\cdot\nabla f(x)]ν_x(d y), $$ where the Lévy measure $ν_x(d y)$ is comparable with a non-degenerate $α$-stable-type Lévy measure (possibly singular), and $σ_x$ is a bounded and nondegenerate matrix-valued function. Under Hölder assumption on $x\mapstoν_x(d y)$ and uniformly continuity assumption on $x\mapstoσ_x$, we show the well-posedness of martingale problem associated with the operator $\mathscr L$. Moreover, we also obtain the existence-uniqueness of strong solutions for the associated SDE when $σ$ belongs to the first order Sobolev space $\mathbb W^{1,p}(\mathbb R^d)$ provided $p>d(1+α\vee 1)$ and $ν_x=ν$ is a non-degenerate $α$-stable-type Lévy measure.

Degenerate SDE with Hölder-Dini Drift and Non-Lipschitz Noise Coefficient

The existence-uniqueness and stability of strong solutions are proved for a class of degenerate stochastic differential equations, where the noise coeffcicient might be non-Lipschitz, and the drift is locally Dini continuous in the component with noise (i.e. the second component) and locally Hölder-Dini continuous of order $\ff 2 3$ in the first component. Moreover, the weak uniqueness is proved under weaker conditions on the noise coefficient. Furthermore, if the noise coefficient is $C^{1+\vv}$ for some $\vv>0$ and the drift is Hölder continuous of order $å\in (\ff 2 3,1)$ in the first component and order $\bb\in(0,1) $ in the second, the solution forms a $C^1$-stochastic diffeormorphism flow. To prove these results, we present some new characterizations of Hölder-Dini space by using the heat semigroup and slowly varying functions.

Degenerate SDEs in Hilbert Spaces with Rough Drifts

The existence and uniqueness of mild solutions are proved for a class of degenerate stochastic differential equations on Hilbert spaces where the drift is Dini continuous in the component with noise and Hölder continuous of order larger than $\ff 2 3$ in the other component. In the finite-dimensional case the Dini continuity is further weakened. The main results are applied to solve second order stochastic systems driven by space-time white noises.

Gradient estimates for SDEs Driven by Multiplicative Lévy Noise

Gradient estimates are derived, for the first time, for the semigroup associated to a class of stochastic differential equations driven by multiplicative Lévy noise. In particular, the estimates are sharp for $α$-stable type noises. To derive these estimates, a new derivative formula of Bismut-Elworthy-Li's type is established for the semigroup by using the Malliavin calculus and a finite-jump approximation argument.

Sobolev differentiable flows of SDEs with local Sobolev and super-linear growth coefficients

By establishing a characterization for Sobolev differentiability of random fields, we prove the weak differentiability of solutions to stochastic differential equations with local Sobolev and super-linear growth coefficients with respect to the starting point. Moreover, we also study the strong Feller property and the irreducibility of the associated diffusion semigroup.

Stochastic differential equations with Sobolev diffusion and singular drift

In this paper we study properties of solutions to stochastic differential equations with Sobolev diffusion coefficients and singular drifts. The properties we study include stability with respect to the coefficients, weak differentiability with respect to starting points, and the Malliavin differentiability with respect to sample paths. We also establish Bismut-Elworthy-Li's formula for the solutions. As an application, we use the stochastic Lagrangian representation of incompressible Navier-Stokes equations given by Constantin-Iyer \cite{Co-Iy} to prove the local well-posedness of NSEs in $\mR^d$ with initial values in the first order Sobolev space $\mW^1_p(\mR^d;\mR^d)$ provided $p>d$.

Stochastic flows for Lévy processes with Hölder drifts

In this paper we study the following stochastic differential equation (SDE) in ${\mathbb R}^d$: $$ \mathrm{d} X_t= \mathrm{d} Z_t + b(t, X_t)\mathrm{d} t, \quad X_0=x, $$ where $Z$ is a Lévy process. We show that for a large class of Lévy processes ${Z}$ and Hölder continuous drift $b$, the SDE above has a unique strong solution for every starting point $x\in{\mathbb R}^d$. Moreover, these strong solutions form a $C^1$-stochastic flow. As a consequence, we show that, when ${Z}$ is an $α$-stable-type Lévy process with $α\in (0, 2)$ and $b$ is bounded and $β$-Hölder continuous with $β\in (1- α/{2},1)$, the SDE above has a unique strong solution. When $α\in (0, 1)$, this in particular solves an open problem from Priola \cite{Pr1}. Moreover, we obtain a Bismut type derivative formula for $\nabla {\mathbb E}_x f(X_t)$ when ${Z}$ is a subordinate Brownian motion. To study the SDE above, we first study the following nonlocal parabolic equation with Hölder continuous $b$ and $f$: $$ \partial_t u+{\mathscr L} u+b\cdot \nabla u+f=0,\quad u(1, \cdot )=0, $$ where $\mathscr L$ is the generator of the Lévy process ${Z}$.

Densities for SDEs driven by degenerate $α$-stable processes

In this work, by using the Malliavin calculus, under Hörmander's condition, we prove the existence of distributional densities for the solutions of stochastic differential equations driven by degenerate subordinated Brownian motions. Moreover, in a special degenerate case, we also obtain the smoothness of the density. In particular, we obtain the existence of smooth heat kernels for the following fractional kinetic Fokker-Planck (nonlocal) operator: \[\mathscr{L}^{(α)}_b:=Δ^{α/2}_{\mathrm{v}}+\mathrm {v}\cdot \nabla_x+b(x,\mathrm{v})\cdot \nabla_{\mathrm{v}},\qquad x,\mathrm{v}\in\mathbb{R}^d,\] where $α\in(0,2)$ and $b:\mathbb{R}^d\times\mathbb{R}^d\to \mathbb{R}^d$ is smooth and has bounded derivatives of all orders.

Fundamental solutions of nonlocal Hörmander's operators

Consider the following nonlocal integro-differential operator: for $α\in(0,2)$, $$ \cL^{(α)}_{σ,b} f(x):=\mbox{p.v.} \int_{|z|<δ}\frac{f(x+σ(x)z)-f(x)}{|z|^{d+α}}\dif z+b(x)\cdot\nabla f(x)+\sL f(x), $$ where $σ:\mR^d\to\mR^d\times\mR^d$ and $b:\mR^d\to\mR^d$ are two $C^\infty_b$-functions, $δ$ is a small positive number, p.v. stands for the Cauchy principal value, and $\sL$ is a bounded linear operator in Sobolev spaces. Let $B_1(x):=σ(x)$ and $B_{j+1}(x):=b(x)\cdot\nabla B_j(x)-\nabla b(x)\cdot B_j(x)$ for $j\in\mN$. Under the following uniform Hörmander's type condition: for some $j_0\in\mN$, $$ \inf_{x\in\mR^d}\inf_{|u|=1}\sum_{j=1}^{j_0}|u B_j(x)|^2>0, $$ by using Bismut's approach to the Malliavin calculus with jumps, we prove the existence of fundamental solutions to operator $\cL^{(α)}_{σ,b}$. In particular, we answer a question proposed by Nualart \cite{Nu1} and Varadhan \cite{Va}.

Nonlocal Hormander's hypoellipticity theorem

Consider the following nonlocal integro-differential operator: for $α\in(0,2)$, $$ \cal L^{(α)}_{σ,b} f(x):=\mbox{p.v.} \int_{\mathbb{R}^d-\{0\}}\frac{f(x+σ(x)z)-f(x)}{|z|^{d+α}}d z+b(x)\cdot\nabla f(x), $$ where $σ:\mathbb{R}^d\to\mathbb{R}^d\times\mathbb{R}^d$ and $b:\mathbb{R}^d\to\mathbb{R}^d$ are two $C^\infty_b$-functions, and p.v. stands for the Cauchy principal value. Let $B_1(x):=σ(x)$ and $B_{j+1}(x):=b(x)\cdot\nabla B_j(x)-\nabla b(x)\cdot B_j(x)$ for $j\in\mathbb{N}$. Under the following Hörmander's type condition: for any $x\in\mathbb{R}^d$ and some $n=n(x)\in\mathbb{N}$, $$ \mathrm{Rank}[B_1(x), B_2(x),\cdots, B_n(x)]=d, $$ by using the Malliavin calculus, we prove the existence of the heat kernel $ρ_t(x,y)$ to the operator $\cal L^{(α)}_{σ,b}$ as well as the continuity of $x\mapsto ρ_t(x,\cdot)$ in $L^1(\mathbb{R}^d)$ for each $t>0$. Moreover, when $σ(x)=σ$ is constant, under the following uniform Hörmander's type condition: for some $j_0\in\mathbb{N}$, $$ \inf_{x\in\mathbb{R}^d}\inf_{|u|=1}\sum_{j=1}^{j_0}|u B_j(x)|^2>0, $$ we also prove the smoothness of $(t,x,y)\mapstoρ_t(x,y)$ with $ρ_t(\cdot,\cdot)\in C^\infty_b(\mathbb{R}^d\times\mathbb{R}^d)$ for each $t>0$.

Regularity of density for SDEs driven by degenerate Lévy noises

By using Bismut's approach about the Malliavin calculus with jumps, we study the regularity of the distributional density for SDEs driven by degenerate additive Lévy noises. Under full Hörmander's conditions, we prove the existence of distributional density and the weak continuity in the first variable of the distributional density. Under the uniform first order Lie's bracket condition, we also prove the smoothness of the density.

Strong Feller properties for degenerate SDEs with jumps

Under full Hörmander's conditions, we prove the strong Feller property of the semigroup determined by an SDE driven by additive subordinate Brownian motion, where the drift is allowed to be arbitrarily growth. For this, we extend a criterion due to Malicet-Poly \cite{Ma-Po} and Bally-Caramellino \cite{Ba-Ca} about the convergence of the laws of Wiener functionals in total variations. Moreover, the example of a chain of coupled oscillators is verified.

Heat kernels and analyticity of non-symmetric jump diffusion semigroups

Let $d\geq 1$ and $α\in (0, 2)$. Consider the following non-local and non-symmetric Lévy-type operator on $\mR^d$: $$ \sL^κ_αf(x):=\mbox{p.v.}\int_{\mR^d}(f(x+z)-f(x))\frac{κ(x,z)}{|z|^{d+α}} \dif z, $$ where $0<κ_0\leq κ(x,z)\leq κ_1$, $κ(x,z)=κ(x,-z)$, and $|κ(x,z)-κ(y,z)|\leqκ_2|x-y|^β$ for some $β\in(0,1)$. Using Levi's method, we construct the fundamental solution (also called heat kernel) $p^κ_α(t, x, y)$ of $\sL^κ_α$, and establish its sharp two-sided estimates as well as its fractional derivative and gradient estimates of the heat kernel. We also show that $p^κ_α(t, x, y)$ is jointly Hölder continuous in $(t, x)$. The lower bound heat kernel estimate is obtained by using a probabilistic argument. The fundamental solution of $\sL^κ_α$ gives rise a Feller process $\{X, \mP_x, x\in \mR^d\}$ on $\mR^d$. We determine the Lévy system of $X$ and show that $\mP_x$ solves the martingale problem for $(\sL^κ_α, C^2_b(\mR^d))$. Furthermore, we obtain the analyticity of the non-symmetric semigroup associated with $\sL^κ_α$ in $L^p$-spaces for every $p\in[1,\infty)$. A maximum principle for solutions of the parabolic equation $\partial_t u =\sL^κ_αu$ is also established.

$L^p$-maximal regularity of nonlocal parabolic equation and applications

By using Fourier's transform and Fefferman-Stein's theorem, we investigate the $L^p$-maximal regularity of nonlocal parabolic and elliptic equations with singular and non-symmetric Lévy operators, and obtain the unique strong solvability of the corresponding nonlocal parabolic and elliptic equations, where the probabilistic representation plays an important role. In particular, a characterization for the domain of pseudo-differential operators of Lévy type with singular kernels is given in terms of the Bessel potential spaces. As a byproduct, we show that a large class of non-symmetric Lévy operators generates an analytic semigroup in $L^p$-space. Moreover, as applications, we prove a Krylov's estimate for stochastic differential equation driven by Cauchy processes (i.e. critical diffusion processes), and also obtain the well-posedness to a class of quasi-linear first order parabolic equation with critical diffusion. In particular, critical Hamilton-Jacobi equation and multidimensional critical Burger's equation are uniquely solvable and the smooth solutions are obtained.

Heat Kernel for Fractional Diffusion Operators with Perturbations

Let $L$ be an elliptic differential operator on a complete connected Riemannian manifold $M$ such that the associated heat kernel has two-sided Gaussian bounds as well as a Gaussian type gradient estimate. Let $L^{(å)}$ be the $å$-stable subordination of $L$ for $å\in (1,2).$ We found some classes $\mathbb K_å^{\gg,\bb} (\bb,\gg\in [0,å))$ of time-space functions containing the Kato class, such that for any measurable $b: [0,\infty)\times M\to TM$ and $c: [0,\infty)\times M\to M$ with $|b|, c\in \mathbb K_å^{1,1},$ the operator $$L_{b,c}^{(å)}(t,x):= L^{(å)}(x)+ <b(t,x),\nn \cdot> +c(t,x),\ \ (t,x)\in [0,\infty)\times M$$ has a unique heat kernel $p_{b,c}^{(å)}(t,x;s,y), 0\le s<t, x,y\in M$, which is jointly continuous and satisfies &\ff{t-s}{C\{\rr(x,y)\lor (t-s)^{\frac{1}å}\}^{d+å}}\le p_{b,c}^{(å)}(t,x;s,y)\le \ff{C(t-s)}{{\rr(x,y)\lor (t-s)^{\frac{1}å}}^{d+å}}, & \big|\nn_x p_{b,c}^{(å)}(t,x; s,y)\big|\le \ff{C(t-s)^{\ff{å-1}å}}{{\rr(x,y)\lor (t-s)^{\frac{1}å}}^{d+å}}, 0\le s<t,\ x,y\in M for some constant $C>1$, where $\rr$ is the Riemannian distance. The estimate of $\nabla_yp^{(å)}_{b,c}$ and the Hölder continuity of $\nn_x p_{b,c}^{(å)}$ are also considered. The resulting estimates of the gradient and its Hölder continuity are new even in the standard case where $L=\DD$ on $\R^d$ and $b,c$ are time-independent.

Stochastic functional differential equations driven by Lévy processes and quasi-linear partial integro-differential equations

In this article we study a class of stochastic functional differential equations driven by Lévy processes (in particular, $α$-stable processes), and obtain the existence and uniqueness of Markov solutions in small time intervals. This corresponds to the local solvability to a class of quasi-linear partial integro-differential equations. Moreover, in the constant diffusion coefficient case, without any assumptions on the Lévy generator, we also show the existence of a unique maximal weak solution for a class of semi-linear partial integro-differential equation systems under bounded Lipschitz assumptions on the coefficients. Meanwhile, in the nondegenerate case (corresponding to $Δ^{α/2}$ with $α\in(1,2]$), based upon some gradient estimates, the existence of global solutions is established too. In particular, this provides a probabilistic treatment for the nonlinear partial integro-differential equations, such as the multi-dimensional fractal Burgers equations and the fractal scalar conservation law equations.

In this article we prove the pathwise uniqueness for stochastic differential equations in $\mR^d$ with time-dependent Sobolev drifts, and driven by symmetric $α$-stable processes provided that $α\in(1,2)$ and its spectral measure is non-degenerate. In particular, the drift is allowed to have jump discontinuity when $α\in(\frac{2d}{d+1},2)$. Our proof is based on some estimates of Krylov's type for purely discontinuous semimartingales.

Stochastic Lagrangian Particle Approach to Fractal Navier-Stokes Equations

In this article we study the fractal Navier-Stokes equations by using stochastic Lagrangian particle path approach in Constantin and Iyer \cite{Co-Iy}. More precisely, a stochastic representation for the fractal Navier-Stokes equations is given in terms of stochastic differential equations driven by Lévy processes. Basing on this representation, a self-contained proof for the existence of local unique solution for the fractal Navier-Stokes equation with initial data in $\mW^{1,p}$ is provided, and in the case of two dimensions or large viscosity, the existence of global solution is also obtained.
