Functional large deviations for Stroock's approximation to a class of Gaussian processes with application to small noise diffusions

Letting~$N=\left\{N(t), t\geq0\right\}$ be a standard Poisson process, Stroock~ \cite{Stroock-1981} constructed a family of continuous processes by $$Θ_ε(t)=\int_0^tθ_ε(r)dr, \ \ \ \ \ 0 \le t \le 1,$$ where $θ_ε(r)=\frac{1}ε(-1)^{N(ε^{-2}r)}$, and proved that it weakly converges to a standard Brownian motion under the continuous function topology. We establish the functional large deviations principle (LDP) for the approximations of a class of Gaussian processes constructed by integrals over $Θ_ε(t)$, and find the explicit form for rate function. As an application, we consider the following (non-Markovian) stochastic differential equation \begin{equation*} \begin{aligned} X^ε(t) &=x_{0}+\int^{t}_{0}b(X^ε(s))ds+λ(ε)\int^{t}_{0}σ(X^ε(s))dΘ_ε(s), \end{aligned} \end{equation*} where $b$ and $σ$ are both Lipschitz functions, and establish its Freidlin-Wentzell type LDP as $ε\rightarrow 0$. The rate function indicates a phase transition phenomenon as $λ(ε)$ moves from one region to the other.

Large deviations principle for 2D Navier-Stokes equations with space time localised noise

We consider a stochastic 2D Navier-Stokes equation in a bounded domain. The random force is assumed to be non-degenerate and periodic in time, its law has a support localised with respect to both time and space. Slightly strengthening the conditions in the pioneering work about exponential ergodicity by Shirikyan [Shi15], we prove that the stochastic system satisfies Donsker-Varadhan typle large deviations principle. Our proof is based on a criterion of [JNPS15] in which we need to verify uniform irreducibility and uniform Feller property for the related Feynman-Kac semigroup.

Large deviations principle via Malliavin calculus for the Navier-Stokes system driven by a degenerate white-in-time noise

The purpose of this paper is to establish the Donsker-Varadhan type large deviations principle (LDP) for the two-dimensional stochastic Navier-Stokes system. The main novelty is that the noise is assumed to be highly degenerate in the Fourier space. The proof is carried out by using a criterion for the LDP developed in arXiv:1410.6188 in a discrete-time setting and extended in arXiv:1505.03686 to the continuous-time. One of the main conditions of that criterion is the uniform Feller property for the Feynman-Kac semigroup, which we verify by using Malliavin calculus.

Singular integrals of subordinators with applications to structural properties of SPDEs

We study stochastic integrals driven by a general subordinator and establish a zero-one law for the finiteness of the resulting integral as well as moment estimates. As an application, we use these results to obtain structural properties of SPDEs driven by multiplicative pure jump noise, which include (1) a maximal inequality for a multiplicative stochastic convolution $Z_t$, (2) a small ball probability of $Z_t$, (3) the existence of invariant measures and accessibility to zero of SPDEs, and (4) a Galerkin approximation of solutions to SPDEs.

Large deviation principle of occupation measures for Non-linear monotone SPDEs

Using the hyper-exponential recurrence criterion, a large deviation principle for the occupation measure is derived for a class of non-linear monotone stochastic partial differential equations. The main results are applied to many concrete SPDEs such as stochastic $p$-Laplace equation, stochastic porous medium equation, stochastic fast-diffusion equation, and even stochastic real Ginzburg-Landau equation driven by $α$-stable noises.

Exponential mixing for SDEs forced by degenerate Levy noises

We modify the coupling method established in [22, 20] and develop a technique to prove the exponential mixing of a 2D stochastic system forced by degenerate Levy noises. In particular, these Levy noises include $α$-stable noises (0 < $α$ < 2). Thanks to the stimulating discussion [14], this technique is promising to study the exponential mixing problem of SPDEs driven by degenerate symmetric $α$-stable noises.

Gradient estimates for SDEs Driven by Multiplicative Lévy Noise

Gradient estimates are derived, for the first time, for the semigroup associated to a class of stochastic differential equations driven by multiplicative Lévy noise. In particular, the estimates are sharp for $α$-stable type noises. To derive these estimates, a new derivative formula of Bismut-Elworthy-Li's type is established for the semigroup by using the Malliavin calculus and a finite-jump approximation argument.

Irreducibility of stochastic real Ginzburg-Landau equation driven by $α$-stable noises and applications

We establish the irreducibility of stochastic real Ginzburg-Landau equation with $α$-stable noises by a maximal inequality and solving a control problem. As applications, we prove that the system converges to its equilibrium measure with exponential rate under a topology stronger than total variation and obeys the moderate deviation principle by constructing some Lyapunov test functions.

Large deviation principle of occupation measure for stochastic real Ginzburg-Landau equation driven by $α$-stable noises

We establish a large deviation principle for the occupation measure of the stochastic real Ginzburg-Landau equation driven by $α$-stable noises. The proof is based on a hyper-exponential recurrence criterion. Our result indicates a phenomenon that strong dissipation beats heavy tailed noises to produce a large deviation, it seems to us that this phenomenon has not been reported in the known literatures.

The Large Deviation Principle and Steady-state Fluctuation Theorem for the Entropy Production Rate of a Stochastic Process in Magnetic Fields

Fluctuation theorem is one of the major achievements in the field of nonequilibrium statistical mechanics during the past two decades. Steady-state fluctuation theorem of sample entropy production rate in terms of large deviation principle for diffusion processes have not been rigorously proved yet due to technical difficulties. Here we give a proof for the steady-state fluctuation theorem of a diffusion process in magnetic fields, with explicit expressions of the free energy function and rate function. The proof is based on the Karhunen-Loéve expansion of complex-valued Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process.

Asymptotics of the entropy production rate for $d$-dimensional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes

In the context of non-equilibrium statistical physics, the entropy production rate is an important concept to describe how far a specific state of a system is from its equilibrium state. In this paper, we establish a central limit theorem and a moderate deviation principle for the entropy production rate of $d$-dimensional Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes, by the techniques of functional inequalities such as Poincaré inequality and log-Sobolev inequality. As an application, we obtain a law of iterated logarithm for the entropy production rate.

Finite time blowup of the stochastic shadow Gierer-Meinhardt System

By choosing some special (random) initial data, we prove that with probability $1$, the stochastic shadow Gierer-Meinhardt system blows up pointwisely in finite time. We also give a (random) upper bound for the blowup time and some estimates about this bound. By increasing the amplitude of the initial data, we can get the blowup in any short time with positive probability.

On some smoothening effects of the transition semigroup of a Lévy process

Let $(P_t)$ be the transition semigroup of a Lévy process $L$ taking values in a Hilbert space $H$. Let $ν$ be the Lévy measure of $L$. It is shown that for any bounded and measurable function $f$, $$ \int_H\left\vert P_tf(x+y)-P_tf(x)\right\vert ^2 ν(\dif y)\le \frac 1 t P_tf^2(x) \qquad \text{for all $t>0$, $x\in H$.} $$ As $ν$ can be infinite this formula establishes some smoothening effect of the semigroup $(P_t)$. In the paper some applications of the formula will be presented as well.

Smooth densities of stochastic differential equations forced by degenerate stable type noises

Using the Bismut's approach to Malliavin calculus, we introduce a simplified Malliavin matrix ([11]) for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) force by degenerate stable like noises. For the degenerate SDEs driven by Wiener noises, one can derive a Norris type lemma and use it \emph{iteratively} to prove the smoothness of density functions. Unfortunately, Norris type lemma is very hard to be iteratively applied to SDEs with stable like noises. In this paper, we derive a simple inequality as a replacement and use it to show that two families of degenerate SDEs with stable like noises admit smooth density functions. One family is the linear SDEs studied by Priola and Zabczyk ([13]), under some additional assumption we can iteratively use the inequality to get the smoothness of the density. The other family is the general SDEs with stable like noises, we can apply this inequality only \emph{one} time and thus derive that the SDEs admit smooth density if the \emph{first} order Lie brackets span $\R^d$. The crucial step in this paper is estimating the smallest eigenvalue of the simplified Malliavin matrix, which only uses some elementary facts of Poisson processes and undergraduate level ordinary differential equations.

Applications of a simple but useful technique to stochastic convolution of $α$-stable processes

Our simple but useful technique is using an integration by parts to split the stochastic convolution into two terms. We develop five applications for this technique. The first one is getting a uniform estimate of stochastic convolution of $α$-stable processes. Since $α$-stable noises only have $p<α$ moment, unlike the stochastic convolution of Wiener process, the well known Da Prato-Kwapień-Zabczyk's factorization ([5]) is not applicable. Alternatively, combining this technique with Doob's martingale inequality, we obtain a uniform estimate similar to that of stochastic convolution of Wiener process. Using this estimate, we show that the stochastic convolution of $α$-stable noises stays, with positive probability, in arbitrary small ball with zero center. These two results are important for studying ergodicity and regularity of stochastic PDEs forced by $α$-stable noises ([9]). The third application is getting the same results as in [12]. The fourth one gives the trajectory regularity of stochastic Burgers equation forced by $α$-stable noises ([9]). Finally, applying a similar integration by parts to stochastic convolution of Wiener noises, we get the uniform estimate and continuity property originally obtained by Da Prato-Kwapień-Zabczyk's factorization.

Ergodicity of stochastic real Ginzburg-Landau equation driven by $α$-stable noises

We study the ergodicity of stochastic real Ginzburg-Landau equation driven by additive $α$-stable noises, showing that as $α\in (3/2,2)$, this stochastic system admits a unique invariant measure. After establishing the existence of invariant measures by the same method as in [9], we prove that the system is strong Feller and accessible to zero. These two properties imply the ergodicity by a simple but useful criterion in [16]. To establish the strong Feller property, we need to truncate the nonlinearity and apply a gradient estimate established in [26] (or see [24]} for a general version for the finite dimension systems). Because the solution has discontinuous trajectories and the nonlinearity is not Lipschitz, we can not solve a control problem to get irreducibility. Alternatively, we use a replacement, i.e., the fact that the system is accessible to zero. In section 3, we establish a maximal inequality for stochastic $α$-stable convolution, which is crucial for studying the well-posedness, strong Feller property and the accessibility of the mild solution. We hope this inequality will also be useful for studying other SPDEs forced by $α$-stable noises.

A Modified log-Harnack inequality and asymptotically strong Feller property

We introduce a new functional inequality, which is a modification of log-Harnack inequality established in [20] and [29], and prove that it implies the asymptotically strong Feller property (ASF). This inequality seems to generalize the criterion for ASF in [Proposition 3.12,14]. As a example, we show by an asymptotic coupling that 2D stochastic Navier-Stokes equation driven by highly degenerate but \emph{essentially elliptic} noises satisfies our modified log-Harnack inequality.

Derivative Formula and Applications for Hyperdissipative Stochastic Navier-Stokes/Burgers Equations

By using coupling method, a Bismut type derivative formula is established for the Markov semigroup associated to a class of hyperdissipative stochastic Navier-Stokes/Burgers equations. As applications, gradient estimates, dimension-free Harnack inequality, strong Feller property, heat kernel estimates and some properties of the invariant probability measure are derived.

Exponential mixing for some SPDEs with Lévy noise

We show how gradient estimates for transition semigroups can be used to establish exponential mixing for a class of Markov processes in infinite dimensions. We concentrate on semilinear systems driven by cylindrical $α$-stable noises, $α\in (0,2)$, introduced in Priola-Zabczyk "Structural properties of semilinear SPDEs driven by cylindrical stable processes" (PTRF to appear). We first prove that if the nonlinearity is bounded, then the system is ergodic and strong mixing. Then we show that the system is exponentially mixing provided that the nonlinearity, or its Lipschitz constant, are sufficiently small.

Log-Harnack Inequality for Stochastic Burgers Equations and Applications

By proving an $L^2$-gradient estimate for the corresponding Galerkin approximations, the log-Harnack inequality is established for the semigroup associated to a class of stochastic Burgers equations. As applications, we derive the strong Feller property of the semigroup, the irreducibility of the solution, the entropy-cost inequality for the adjoint semigroup, and entropy upper bounds of the transition density.
