Strong Feller Regularisation of 1-d Nonlinear Transport by Reflected Ornstein-Uhlenbeck Noise

We consider equations of nonlinear transport on the circle with regular self interactions appearing in aggregation models and deterministic mean field dynamics. We introduce a random perturbation of such systems through a stochastic orientation preserving flow, which is given as an integrated infinite dimensional periodic Ornstein- Uhlenbeck process with reflection. As our main result we show that the induced stochastic dynamics yields a measure valued Markov process on a class of regular measures. Moreover, we show that this process is strong Feller in the corresponding topology. This is interpreted as a qualitative regularisation by noise phenomenon.

Convergence in Wasserstein Distance for Empirical Measures of Dirichlet Diffusion Processes on Manifolds

Let $M$ be a $d$-dimensional connected compact Riemannian manifold with boundary $\partial M$, let $V\in C^2(M)$ such that $μ({\rm d} x):={\rm e}^{V(x)}{\rm d} x$ is a probability measure, and let $X_t$ be the diffusion process generated by $L:=Δ+\nabla V$ with $τ:=\inf\{t\ge 0: X_t\in\partial M\}$. Consider the empirical measure $μ_t:=\frac 1 t \int_0^t δ_{X_s}{\rm d} s$ under the condition $t<τ$ for the diffusion process. If $d\le 3$, then for any initial distribution not fully supported on $\partial M$, \begin{align*} &c\sum_{m=1}^\infty \frac{2}{(λ_m-λ_0)^2} \le \liminf_{t\to \infty} \inf_{T\ge t} \Big\{t {\mathbb E}\big[\mathbb W_2(μ_t, μ_0)^2\big|T<τ\big]\Big\} \\ &\le \limsup_{t\to \infty} \sup_{T\ge t} \Big\{ t \mathbb E\big[\mathbb W_2(μ_t, μ_0)^2\big|T<τ\big] \Big\}\le \sum_{m=1}^\infty \frac{2}{(λ_m-λ_0)^2}\end{align*} holds for some constant $c\in (0,1]$ with $c=1$ when $\partial M$ is convex, where $μ_0:= ϕ_0^2μ$ for the first Dirichet eigenfunction $ϕ_0$ of $L$, $\{λ_m\}_{m\ge 0}$ are the Dirichlet eigenvalues of $-L$ listed in the increasing order counting multiplicities, and the upper bound is finite if and only if $d\le 3$. When $d=4$, $\sup_{T\ge t} \mathbb E\big[\mathbb W_2(μ_t, μ_0)^2\big|T<τ\big] $ decays in the order $t^{-1}\log t$, while for $d\ge 5$ it behaves like $t^{-\frac 2 {d-2}}$, as $t\to\infty$.

Distribution-Path Dependent Nonlinear SPDEs with Application to Stochastic Transport Type Equations

By using a regularity approximation argument, the global existence and uniqueness are derived for a class of nonlinear SPDEs depending on both the whole history and the distribution under strong enough noise. As applications, the global existence and uniqueness are proved for distribution-path dependent stochastic transport type equations, which are arising from stochastic fluid mechanics with forces depending on the history and the environment. In particular, the distribution-path dependent stochastic Camassa--Holm equation with or without Coriolis effect has a unique global solution when the noise is strong enough, whereas for the deterministic model wave-breaking may occur. This indicates that the noise may prevent blow-up almost surely.

HYPERION: Hyperspectral Penetrating-type Ellipsoidal Reconstruction for Terahertz Blind Source Separation

Terahertz (THz) technology has been a great candidate for applications, including pharmaceutic analysis, chemical identification, and remote sensing and imaging due to its non-invasive and non-destructive properties. Among those applications, penetrating-type hyperspectral THz signals, which provide crucial material information, normally involve a noisy, complex mixture system. Additionally, the measured THz signals could be ill-conditioned due to the overlap of the material absorption peak in the measured bands. To address those issues, we consider penetrating-type signal mixtures and aim to develop a blind hyperspectral unmixing (HU) method without requiring any information from a prebuilt database. The proposed HYperspectral Penetrating-type Ellipsoidal ReconstructION (HYPERION) algorithm is unsupervised, not relying on collecting extensive data or sophisticated model training. Instead, it is developed based on elegant ellipsoidal geometry under a very mild requirement on data purity, whose excellent efficacy is experimentally demonstrated.

Singular McKean-Vlasov (Reflecting) SDEs with Distribution Dependent Noise

By using Zvonkin's transformation and a two-step fixed point argument in distributions, the well-posedness and regularity estimates are derived for singular McKean-Vlasov SDEs with distribution dependent noise, where the drift contains a term growing linearly in space and distribution and a locally integrable term independent of distribution, while the noise coefficient is weakly differentiable in space and Lipschitz continuous in distribution with respect to the sum of Wasserstein and weighted variation distances. The main results extend existing ones derived for noise coefficients either independent of distribution, or having nice linear functional derivatives in distribution. Singular reflecting SDEs with distribution dependent noise are also studied.

Bismut Formula for Lions Derivative of Distribution-Path Dependent SDEs

To characterize the regularity of distribution-path dependent SDEs in the initial distribution which varies in the class of probability measures on the path space, we introduce the intrinsic and Lions derivatives for probability measures on Banach spaces, and prove the chain rule of the Lions derivative for the distribution of Banach-valued random variables. By using Malliavin calculus, we establish the Bismut type formula for the Lions derivatives of functional solutions to SDEs with distribution-path dependent drifts. When the noise term is also path dependent so that the Bismut formula is invalid, we establish the asymptotic Bismut formula. Both non-degenerate and degenerate noises are considered. The main results of this paper generalize and improve the corresponding ones derived recently in the literature for the classical SDEs with memory and McKean-Vlasov SDEs without memory.

Precise Limit in Wasserstein Distance for Conditional Empirical Measures of Dirichlet Diffusion Processes

Let $M$ be a $d$-dimensional connected compact Riemannian manifold with boundary $\partial M$, let $V\in C^2(M)$ such that $μ(dx):=e^{V(x)} d x$ is a probability measure, and let $X_t$ be the diffusion process generated by $L:=Δ+\nabla V$ with $τ:=\inf\{t\ge 0: X_t\in\partial M\}$. Consider the conditional empirical measure $μ_t^ν:= \mathbb E^ν\big(\frac 1 t \int_0^t δ_{X_s}d s\big|t<τ\big)$ for the diffusion process with initial distribution $ν$ such that $ν(\partial M)<1$. Then $$\lim_{t\to\infty} \big\{t\mathbb W_2(μ_t^ν,μ_0)\big\}^2 = \frac 1 {\{μ(ϕ_0)ν(ϕ_0)\}^2} \sum_{m=1}^\infty \frac{\{ν(ϕ_0)μ(ϕ_m)+ μ(ϕ_0) ν(ϕ_m)\}^2}{(λ_m-λ_0)^3},$$ where $ν(f):=\int_Mf {d} ν$ for a measure $ν$ and $f\in L^1(ν)$, $μ_0:=ϕ_0^2μ$, $\{ϕ_m\}_{m\ge 0}$ is the eigenbasis of $-L$ in $L^2(μ)$ with the Dirichlet boundary, $\{λ_m\}_{m\ge 0}$ are the corresponding Dirichlet eigenvalues, and $\mathbb W_2$ is the $L^2$-Wasserstein distance induced by the Riemannian metric.

Derivative Estimates on Distributions of McKean-Vlasov SDEs

By using the heat kernel parameter expansion with respect to the frozen SDEs, the intrinsic derivative is estimated for the law of Mckean-Vlasov SDEs with respect to the initial distribution. As an application, the total variation distance between the laws of two solutions is bounded by the Wasserstein distance for initial distributions. These extend some recent results proved for distribution-free noise by using the coupling method and Malliavin calculus.

Donsker-Varadhan Large Deviations for Path-Distribution Dependent SPDEs

As an important tool characterizing the long time behavior of Markov processes, the Donsker-Varadhan LDP (large deviation principle) does not directly apply to distribution dependent SDEs/SPDEs since the solutions are non-Markovian. We establish this type LDP for several different models of distribution dependent SDEs/SPDEs which may also with memories, by comparing the original equations with the corresponding distribution independent ones. As preparations, the existence, uniqueness and exponential convergence are also investigated for path-distribution dependent SPDEs which should be interesting by themselves.

Functional Inequalities for Weighted Gamma Distribution on the Space of Finite Measures

Let $\MM$ be the space of finite measures on a Locally compact Polish space, and let $\BG$ be the Gamma distribution on $\MM$ with intensity measure $ν\in \MM$. Let $\nn^{ext}$ be the extrinsic derivative with tangent bundle $T\MM= \cup_{η\in\MM} L^2(η)$, and let $\GA: T\MM\to T\MM$ be measurable such that $\GA_η$ is a positive definite linear operator on $L^2(η)$ for every $η\in \MM$. Moreover, for a measurable function $V$ on $\MM$, let $\d\BG^V= \e^V\d\BG$. We investigate the Poincaré, weak Poincaré and super Poincaré inequalities for the Dirichlet form $$\EE_{\GA,V}(F,G):= \int_\MM \<\GA_η\nn^{ext}F(η), \nn^{ext}G(η)\>_{L^2(η)}\, \d\BG^V(η),$$ which characterize various properties of the associated Markov semigroup. The main results are extended to the space of finite signed measures.

McKean-Vlasov SDEs with Drifts Discontinuous under Wasserstein Distance

Existence and uniqueness are proved for Mckean-Vlasov type distribution dependent SDEs with singular drifts satisfying an integrability condition in space variable and the Lipschitz condition in distribution variable with respect to $W_0$ or $W_0+W_θ$ for some $θ\ge 1$, where $W_0$ is the total variation distance and $W_θ$ is the $L^θ$-Wasserstein distance. This improves some existing results where the drift is either locally bounded in the space variable or continuous in the distribution variable with respect to the Wasserstein distance.

Nonlinear Fokker-Planck equations for Probability Measures on Path Space and Path-Distribution Dependent SDEs

By investigating path-distribution dependent stochastic differential equations, the following type of nonlinear Fokker--Planck equations for probability measures $(μ_t)_{t \geq 0}$ on the path space $\mathcal C:=C([-r_0,0];\mathbb R^d),$ is analyzed: $$\partial_t μ(t)=L_{t,μ_t}^*μ_t,\ \ t\ge 0,$$ where $μ(t)$ is the image of $μ_t$ under the projection $\mathcal C\niξ\mapsto ξ(0)\in\mathbb R^d$, and $$L_{t,μ}(ξ):= \frac 1 2\sum_{i,j=1}^d a_{ij}(t,ξ,μ)\frac{\partial^2} {\partial_{ξ(0)_i} \partial_{ξ(0)_j}} +\sum_{i=1}^d b_i(t,ξ,μ)\frac{\partial}{\partial_{ξ(0)_i}},\ \ t\ge 0, ξ\in \mathcal C, μ\in \mathcal P^{\mathcal C}.$$ Under reasonable conditions on the coefficients $a_{ij}$ and $b_i$, the existence, uniqueness, Lipschitz continuity in Wasserstein distance, total variational norm and entropy, as well as derivative estimates are derived for the martingale solutions.

Exponential Contraction in Wasserstein Distances for Diffusion Semigroups with Negative Curvature

Let $P_t$ be the (Neumann) diffusion semigroup $P_t$ generated by a weighted Laplacian on a complete connected Riemannian manifold $M$ without boundary or with a convex boundary. It is well known that the Bakry-Emery curvature is bounded below by a positive constant $\ll>0$ if and only if $$W_p(μ_1P_t, μ_2P_t)\le \e^{-\ll t} W_p (μ_1,μ_2),\ \ t\ge 0, p\ge 1 $$ holds for all probability measures $μ_1$ and $μ_2$ on $M$, where $W_p$ is the $L^p$ Wasserstein distance induced by the Riemannian distance. In this paper, we prove the exponential contraction $$W_p(μ_1P_t, μ_2P_t)\le c\e^{-\ll t} W_p (μ_1,μ_2),\ \ p\ge 1, t\ge 0$$ for some constants $c,\ll>0$ for a class of diffusion semigroups with negative curvature where the constant $c$ is essentially larger than $1$. Similar results are derived for SDEs with multiplicative noise by using explicit conditions on the coefficients, which are new even for SDEs with additive noise.

Integrability Conditions for SDEs and Semi-Linear SPDEs

By using the local dimension-free Harnack inequality established on incomplete Riemannian manifolds, integrability conditions on the coefficients are presented for SDEs to imply the non-explosion of solutions as well as the existence, uniqueness and regularity estimates of invariant probability measures. These conditions include a class of drifts unbounded on compact domains such that the usual Lyapunov conditions can not be verified. The main results are extended to second order differential operators on Hilbert spaces and semi-linear SPDEs.

Integration by Parts Formula and Applications for SPDEs with Jumps

By using the Malliavin calculus and finite jump approximations, the Driver-type integration by parts formula is established for the semigroup associated to stochastic (partial) differential equations with noises containing a subordinate Brownian motion. As applications, the shift Harnack inequality and heat kernel estimates are derived. The main results are illustrated by SDEs driven by $å$-stable like processes.

Degenerate SDE with Hölder-Dini Drift and Non-Lipschitz Noise Coefficient

The existence-uniqueness and stability of strong solutions are proved for a class of degenerate stochastic differential equations, where the noise coeffcicient might be non-Lipschitz, and the drift is locally Dini continuous in the component with noise (i.e. the second component) and locally Hölder-Dini continuous of order $\ff 2 3$ in the first component. Moreover, the weak uniqueness is proved under weaker conditions on the noise coefficient. Furthermore, if the noise coefficient is $C^{1+\vv}$ for some $\vv>0$ and the drift is Hölder continuous of order $å\in (\ff 2 3,1)$ in the first component and order $\bb\in(0,1) $ in the second, the solution forms a $C^1$-stochastic diffeormorphism flow. To prove these results, we present some new characterizations of Hölder-Dini space by using the heat semigroup and slowly varying functions.

Degenerate SDEs in Hilbert Spaces with Rough Drifts

The existence and uniqueness of mild solutions are proved for a class of degenerate stochastic differential equations on Hilbert spaces where the drift is Dini continuous in the component with noise and Hölder continuous of order larger than $\ff 2 3$ in the other component. In the finite-dimensional case the Dini continuity is further weakened. The main results are applied to solve second order stochastic systems driven by space-time white noises.

Functional Inequalities for Convolution Probability Measures

Let $μ$ and $ν$ be two probability measures on $\R^d$, where $μ(\d x)= \e^{-V(x)}\d x$ for some $V\in C^1(\R^d)$. Explicit sufficient conditions on $V$ and $ν$ are presented such that $μ*ν$ satisfies the log-Sobolev, Poincaré and super Poincaré inequalities. In particular, the recent results on the log-Sobolev inequality derived in \cite{Z} for convolutions of the Gaussian measure and compactly supported probability measures are improved and extended.

Gradient Estimates and Applications for SDEs in Hilbert Space with Multiplicative Noise and Dini Continuous Drift

Consider the stochastic evolution equation in a separable Hilbert space with a nice multiplicative noise and a locally Dini continuous drift. We prove that for any initial data the equation has a unique (possibly explosive) mild solution. Under a reasonable condition ensuring the non-explosion of the solution, the strong Feller property of the associated Markov semigroup is proved. Gradient estimates and log-Harnack inequalities are derived for the associated semigroup under certain global conditions, which are new even in finite-dimensions.

Gradient estimates for SDEs Driven by Multiplicative Lévy Noise

Gradient estimates are derived, for the first time, for the semigroup associated to a class of stochastic differential equations driven by multiplicative Lévy noise. In particular, the estimates are sharp for $α$-stable type noises. To derive these estimates, a new derivative formula of Bismut-Elworthy-Li's type is established for the semigroup by using the Malliavin calculus and a finite-jump approximation argument.

Hypercontractivity for Functional Stochastic Partial Differential Equations

Explicit sufficient conditions on the hypercontractivity are presented for two classes of functional stochastic partial differential equations driven by, respectively, non-degenerate and degenerate Gaussian noises. Consequently, these conditions imply that the associated Markov semigroup is $L^2$-compact and exponentially convergent to the stationary distribution in entropy, variance and total variational norm. As the log-Sobolev inequality is invalid under the framework, we apply a criterion presented in the recent paper \cite{Wang14} using Harnack inequality, coupling property and Gaussian concentration property of the stationary distribution. To verify the concentration property, we prove a Fernique type inequality for infinite-dimensional Gaussian processes which might be interesting by itself.

Perturbations of Functional Inequalities for Lévy Type Dirichlet Forms

Perturbations of super Poincaré and weak Poincaré inequalities for Lévy type Dirichlet forms are studied. When the range of jumps is finite our results are natural extensions to the corresponding ones derived earlier for diffusion processes; and we show that the study for the situation with infinite range of jumps is essentially different. Some examples are presented to illustrate the optimality of our results.

Asymptotic Couplings by Reflection and Applications for Non-Linear Monotone SPDES

Asymptotic couplings by reflection are constructed for a class of non-linear monotone SPDES (stochastic partial differential equations). As applications, the gradient/Hölder estimates as well as the exponential convergence are derived for the associated Markov semigroup. The main results are illustrated by stochastic generalized porous media equations, stochastic $p$-Laplacian equations, and stochastic generalized fast-diffusion equations. We emphasize that the gradient estimate is studied at the first time for these equations.

Derivative Formulae and Poincaré Inequality for Kohn-Laplacian Type Semigroups

As a generalization to the heat semigroup on the Heisenberg group, the diffusion semigroup generated by the subelliptic operator $L:=\ff 1 2 \sum_{i=1}^m X_i^2$ on $\R^{m+d}:= \R^m\times\R^d$ is investigated, where $$X_i(x,y)= \sum_{k=1}^m \si_{ki} \pp_{x_k} + \sum_{l=1}^d (A_l x)_i\pp_{y_l},\ \ (x,y)\in\R^{m+d}, 1\le i\le m$$ for $\si$ an invertible $m\times m$-matrix and $\{A_l\}_{1\le l\le d}$ some $m\times m$-matrices such that the Hörmander condition holds. We first establish Bismut-type and Driver-type derivative formulae with applications on gradient estimates and the coupling/Liouville properties, which are new even for the heat semigroup on the Heisenberg group; then extend some recent results derived for the heat semigroup on the Heisenberg group.

Exponential Convergence of Non-Linear Monotone SPDEs

For a Markov semigroup $P_t$ with invariant probability measure $μ$, a constant $\ll>0$ is called a lower bound of the ultra-exponential convergence rate of $P_t$ to $μ$, if there exists a constant $C\in (0,\infty)$ such that $$ \sup_{μ(f^2)\le 1}\|P_tf-μ(f)\|_\infty \le C \e^{-\ll t},\ \ t\ge 1.$$ By using the coupling by change of measure in the line of [F.-Y. Wang, Ann. Probab. 35(2007), 1333--1350], explicit lower bounds of the ultra-exponential convergence rate are derived for a class of non-linear monotone stochastic partial differential equations. The main result is illustrated by the stochastic porous medium equation and the stochastic $p$-Laplace equation respectively. Finally, the $V$-uniformly exponential convergence is investigated for stochastic fast-diffusion equations.

Gradient Estimates and Applications for Neumann Semigroup on Narrow Strip

By using local and global versions of Bismut type derivative formulas, gradient estimates are derived for the Neumann semigroup on a narrow strip. Applications to functional/cost inequalities and heat kernel estimates are presented. Since the narrow strip we consider is non-convex with zero injectivity radius, and does not satisfy the volume doubling condition, existing results in the literature do not apply.

Harnack Inequality and Applications for Infinite-Dimensional GEM Processes

The dimension-free Harnack inequality and uniform heat kernel upper/lower bounds are derived for a class of infinite-dimensional GEM processes, which was introduced in \cite{FW} to simulate the two-parameter GEM distributions. In particular, the associated Dirichlet form satisfies the super log-Sobolev inequality which strengthens the log-Sobolev inequality derived in \cite{FW}. To prove the main results, explicit Harnack inequality and super Poincaré inequality are established for the one-dimensional Wright-Fisher diffusion processes. The main tool of the study is the coupling by change of measures.

Hypercontractivity for Functional Stochastic Differential Equations

An explicit sufficient condition on the hypercontractivity is derived for the Markov semigroup associated to a class of functional stochastic differential equations. Consequently, the semigroup $P_t$ converges exponentially to its unique invariant probability measure $μ$ in entropy, $L^2(μ)$ and the totally variational norm, and it is compact in $L^2(μ)$ for large $t>0$. This provides a natural class of non-symmetric Markov semigroups which are compact for large time but non-compact for small time. A semi-linear model which may not satisfy this sufficient condition is also investigated.

preprint2014arXiv

Integration by Parts Formula and Shift Harnack Inequality for Stochastic Equations

A new coupling argument is introduced to establish Driver's integration by parts formula and shift Harnack inequality. Unlike known coupling methods where two marginal processes with different starting points are constructed to move together as soon as possible, for the new-type coupling the two marginal processes start from the same point but their difference is aimed to reach a fixed quantity at a given time. Besides the integration by parts formula, the new coupling method is also efficient to imply the shift Harnack inequality. Differently from known Harnack inequalities where the values of a reference function at different points are compared, in the shift Harnack inequality the reference function, rather than the initial point, is shifted. A number of applications of the integration by parts and shift Harnack inequality are presented. The general results are illustrated by some concrete models including the stochastic Hamiltonian system where the associated diffusion process can be highly degenerate, delayed SDEs, and semi-linear SPDEs.

Order-Preservation for Multidimensional Stochastic Functional Differential Equations with Jump

Sufficient and necessary conditions are presented for the order-preservation of stochastic functional differential equations on $\R^d$ with non-Lipschitzian coefficients driven by the Brownian motion and Poisson processes. Coupling and Strong Feller for Jump Processes on Banach Spaces

By using lower bound conditions of the Lévy measure w.r.t. a nice reference measure, the coupling and strong Feller properties are investigated for the Markov semigroup associated with a class of linear SDEs driven by (non-cylindrical) Lévy processes on a Banach space. Unlike in the finite-dimensional case where these properties have also been confirmed for Lévy processes without drift, in the infinite-dimensional setting the appearance of a drift term is essential to ensure the quasi-invariance of the process by shifting the initial data. Gradient estimates and exponential convergence are also investigated. The main results are illustrated by specific models on the Wiener space and separable Hilbert spaces.

Criteria of Spectral Gap for Markov Operators

Let $(E,\mathcal F,μ)$ be a probability space, and let $P$ be a Markov operator on $L^2(μ)$ with $1$ a simple eigenvalue such that $μP=μ$ (i.e. $μ$ is an invariant probability measure of $P$). Then $\hat P:=\ff 1 2 (P+P^*)$ has a spectral gap, i.e. $1$ is isolated in the spectrum of $\hat P$, if and only if $$\|P\|_τ:=\lim_{R\to\infty} \sup_{μ(f^2)\le 1}μ\big(f(Pf-R)^+\big)<1.$$ This strengthens a conjecture of Simon and H$ϕ$egh-Krohn on the spectral gap for hyperbounded operators solved recently by L. Miclo in \cite{M}. Consequently, for a symmetric, conservative, irreducible Dirichlet form on $L^2(μ)$, a Poincaré/log-Sobolev type inequality holds if and only if so does the corresponding defective inequality. Extensions to sub-Markov operators and non-conservative Dirichlet forms are also presented.

Coupling for Ornstein--Uhlenbeck processes with jumps

Consider the linear stochastic differential equation (SDE) on $\mathbb{R}^n$: \[\mathrm {d}{X}_t=AX_t\,\mathrm{d}t+B\,\mathrm{d}L_t,\] where $A$ is a real $n\times n$ matrix, $B$ is a real $n\times d$ real matrix and $L_t$ is a Lévy process with Lévy measure $ν$ on $\mathbb{R}^d$. Assume that $ν(\mathrm {d}{z})\ge ρ_0(z)\,\mathrm{d}z$ for some $ρ_0\ge 0$. If $A\le 0,\operatorname {Rank}(B)=n$ and $\int_{\{|z-z_0|\le\varepsilon\}}ρ_0(z)^{-1}\,\mathrm{d}z<\infty$ holds for some $z_0\in \mathbb{R}^d$ and some $\varepsilon>0$, then the associated Markov transition probability $P_t(x,\mathrm {d}{y})$ satisfies \[\|P_t(x,\cdot)-P_t(y,\cdot)\|_{\mathrm{var}}\le \frac{C(1+|x-y|)}{\sqrt{t}}, x,y\in \mathbb{R}^d,t>0,\] for some constant $C>0$, which is sharp for large $t$ and implies that the process has successful couplings. The Harnack inequality, ultracontractivity and the strong Feller property are also investigated for the (conditional) transition semigroup.

Let $L^{(å)}$ be the $å$-stable subordination of $L$ for $å\in (1,2).$ We found some classes $\mathbb K_å^{\gg,\bb} (\bb,\gg\in [0,å))$ of time-space functions containing the Kato class, such that for any measurable $b: [0,\infty)\times M\to TM$ and $c: [0,\infty)\times M\to M$ with $|b|, c\in \mathbb K_å^{1,1},$ the operator $$L_{b,c}^{(å)}(t,x):= L^{(å)}(x)+ <b(t,x),\nn \cdot> +c(t,x),\ \ (t,x)\in [0,\infty)\times M$$ has a unique heat kernel $p_{b,c}^{(å)}(t,x;s,y), 0\le s<t, x,y\in M$, which is jointly continuous and satisfies &\ff{t-s}{C\{\rr(x,y)\lor (t-s)^{\frac{1}å}\}^{d+å}}\le p_{b,c}^{(å)}(t,x;s,y)\le \ff{C(t-s)}{{\rr(x,y)\lor (t-s)^{\frac{1}å}}^{d+å}}, & \big|\nn_x p_{b,c}^{(å)}(t,x; s,y)\big|\le \ff{C(t-s)^{\ff{å-1}å}}{{\rr(x,y)\lor (t-s)^{\frac{1}å}}^{d+å}}, 0\le s<t,\ x,y\in M for some constant $C>1$, where $\rr$ is the Riemannian distance. The estimate of $\nabla_yp^{(å)}_{b,c}$ and the Hölder continuity of $\nn_x p_{b,c}^{(å)}$ are also considered. The resulting estimates of the gradient and its Hölder continuity are new even in the standard case where $L=\DD$ on $\R^d$ and $b,c$ are time-independent.

Log-Harnack Inequality for Mild Solutions of SPDEs with Strongly Multiplicative Noise

Due to technical reasons, existing results concerning Harnack type inequalities for SPDEs with multiplicative noise apply only to the case where the coefficient in the noise term is an Hilbert-Schmidt perturbation of a fixed bounded operator. In this paper we investigate a class of semi-linear SPDEs with strongly multiplicative noise whose coefficient is even allowed to be unbounded which is thus no way to be Hilbert-Schmidt. Gradient estimates, log-Harnack inequality and applications are derived. Applications to stochastic reaction-diffusion equations driven by space-time white noise are presented.

Transportation Cost Inequalities for Neutral Functional Stochastic Equations

By using Girsanov transformation and martingale representation, Talagrand-type transportation cost inequalities, with respect to both the uniform and the $L^2$ distances on the global free path space, are established for the segment process associated to a class of neutral functional stochastic differential equations. Neutral functional stochastic partial differential equations are also investigated.

By using Malliavin calculus, explicit derivative formulae are established for a class of semi-linear functional stochastic partial differential equations with additive or multiplicative noise. As applications, gradient estimates and Harnack inequalities are derived for the semigroup of the associated segment process. General Extinction Results for Stochastic Partial Differential Equations and Applications

Let $L$ be a positive definite self-adjoint operator on the $L^2$-space associated to a $\si$-finite measure space. Let $H$ be the dual space of the domain of $L^{1/2}$ w.r.t. $L^2(μ)$. By using an Itô type inequality for the $H$-norm and an integrability condition for the hyperbound of the semigroup $P_t:=\e^{-Lt}$, general extinction results are derived for a class of continuous adapted processes on $H$. Main applications include stochastic and deterministic fast diffusion equations with fractional Laplacians. Furthermore, we prove exponential integrability of the extinction time for all space dimensions in the singular diffusion version of the well-known Zhang-model for self-organized criticality, provided the noise is small enough. Thus we obtain that the system goes to the critical state in finite time in the deterministic and with probability one in finite time in the stochastic case.

Analysis on Path Spaces over Riemmannian Manifolds with Boundary

By using Hsu's multiplicative functional for the Neumann heat equation, a natural damped gradient operator is defined for the reflecting Brownian motion on compact manifolds with boundary. This operator is linked to quasi-invariant flows in terms of a integration by parts formula, which leads to the standard log-Sobolev inequality for the associated Dirichlet form on the path space.

Coupling and Applications

This paper presents a self-contained account for coupling arguments and applications in the context of Markov processes. We first use coupling to describe the transport problem, which leads to the concepts of optimal coupling and probability distance (or transportation-cost), then introduce applications of coupling to the study of ergodicity, Liouville theorem, convergence rate, gradient estimate, and Harnack inequality for Markov processes.

Derivative Formula and Applications for Hyperdissipative Stochastic Navier-Stokes/Burgers Equations

By using coupling method, a Bismut type derivative formula is established for the Markov semigroup associated to a class of hyperdissipative stochastic Navier-Stokes/Burgers equations. As applications, gradient estimates, dimension-free Harnack inequality, strong Feller property, heat kernel estimates and some properties of the invariant probability measure are derived.

Dimension-independent Harnack inequalities for subordinated semigroups

Dimension-independent Harnack inequalities are derived for a class of subordinate semigroups. In particular, for a diffusion satisfying the Bakry-Emery curvature condition, the subordinate semigroup with power $α$ satisfies a dimension-free Harnack inequality provided $α\in(1/2, 1)$, and it satisfies the log-Harnack inequality for all $α\in (0,1).$ Some infinite-dimensional examples are also presented.

Equivalent Semigroup Properties for Curvature-Dimension Condition

Some equivalent gradient and Harnack inequalities of a diffusion semigroup are presented for the curvature-dimension condition of the associated generator. As applications, the first eigenvalue, the log-Harnack inequality, the heat kernel estimates, and the HWI inequality are derived by using the curvature-dimension condition. The transportation inequality for diffusion semigroups is also investigated.

Exponential Convergence Rates of Second Quantization Semigroups and Applications

Exponential convergence rates in the $L^2$-tail norm and entropy are characterized for the second quantization semigroups by using the corresponding base Dirichlet form. This supplements the well known result on the $L^2$-exponential convergence rate of second quantization semigroups. As applications, birth-death type processes on Poisson spaces and the path space of Lévy processes are investigated.

Gradient Estimate for Ornstein-Uhlenbeck Jump Processes

By using absolutely continuous lower bounds of the Lévy measure, explicit gradient estimates are derived for the semigroup of the corresponding Lévy process with a linear drift. A derivative formula is presented for the conditional distribution of the process at time $t$ under the condition that the process jumps before $t$. Finally, by using bounded perturbations of the Lévy measure, the resulting gradient estimates are extended to linear SDEs driven by Lévy-type processes.

Gradient Estimate on the Neumann Semigroup and Applications

We prove the following sharp upper bound for the gradient of the Neumann semigroup $P_t$ on a $d$-dimensional compact domain $\OO$ with boundary either $C^2$-smooth or convex: $$\|\nn P_t\|_{1\to \infty}\le \ff{c}{t^{(d+1)/2}},\ \ t>0,$$ where $c>0$ is a constant depending on the domain and $\|\cdot\|_{1\to\infty}$ is the operator norm from $L^1(\OO)$ to $L^\infty(\OO)$. This estimate implies a Gaussian type point-wise upper bound for the gradient of the Neumann heat kernel, which is applied to the study of the Hardy spaces, Riesz transforms, and regularity of solutions to the inhomogeneous Neumann problem on compact convex domains.

Log-Harnack Inequality for Stochastic Burgers Equations and Applications

By proving an $L^2$-gradient estimate for the corresponding Galerkin approximations, the log-Harnack inequality is established for the semigroup associated to a class of stochastic Burgers equations. As applications, we derive the strong Feller property of the semigroup, the irreducibility of the solution, the entropy-cost inequality for the adjoint semigroup, and entropy upper bounds of the transition density.

Harnack Inequality and Strong Feller Property for Stochastic Fast-Diffusion Equations

This paper presents analogous results for stochastic fast-diffusion equations. Since the fast-diffusion equation possesses weaker dissipativity than the porous medium one does, some technical difficulties appear in the study. As a compensation to the weaker dissipativity condition, a Sobolev-Nash inequality is assumed for the underlying self-adjoint operator in applications. Some concrete examples are constructed to illustrate the main results.

Lyapunov conditions for logarithmic Sobolev and Super Poincaré inequality

We show how to use Lyapunov functions to obtain functional inequalities which are stronger than Poincaré inequality (for instance logarithmic Sobolev or $F$-Sobolev). The case of Poincaré and weak Poincaré inequalities was studied in Bakry and al. This approach allows us to recover and extend in an unified way some known criteria in the euclidean case (Bakry-Emery, Wang, Kusuoka-Stroock ...).

Existence of the spectral gap for elliptic operators

Let $M$ be a connected, noncompact, complete Riemannian manifold, consider the operator $L=\DD +\nn V$ for some $V\in C^2(M)$ with $\exp[V]$ integrable w.r.t. the Riemannian volume element. This paper studies the existence of the spectral gap of $L$. As a consequence of the main result, let $\rr$ be the distance function from a point $o$, then the spectral gap exists provided $\lim_{\rr\to\infty}\sup L\rr<0$ while the spectral gap does not exist if $o$ is a pole and $\lim_{\rr\to\infty}\inf L\rr\ge 0.$ Moreover, the elliptic operators on $\mathbb R^d$ are also studied.
