DSIPA: Detecting LLM-Generated Texts via Sentiment-Invariant Patterns Divergence Analysis

The rapid advancement of large language models (LLMs) presents new security challenges, particularly in detecting machine-generated text used for misinformation, impersonation, and content forgery. Most existing detection approaches struggle with robustness against adversarial perturbation, paraphrasing attacks, and domain shifts, often requiring restrictive access to model parameters or large labeled datasets. To address this, we propose DSIPA, a novel training-free framework that detects LLM-generated content by quantifying sentiment distributional stability under controlled stylistic variation. It is based on the observation that LLMs typically exhibit more emotionally consistent outputs, while human-written texts display greater affective variation. Our framework operates in a zero-shot, black-box manner, leveraging two unsupervised metrics, sentiment distribution consistency and sentiment distribution preservation, to capture these intrinsic behavioral asymmetries without the need for parameter updates or probability access. Extensive experiments are conducted on state-of-the-art proprietary and open-source models, including GPT-5.2, Gemini-1.5-pro, Claude-3, and LLaMa-3.3. Evaluations on five domains, such as news articles, programming code, student essays, academic papers, and community comments, demonstrate that DSIPA improves F1 detection scores by up to 49.89% over baseline methods. The framework exhibits superior generalizability across domains and strong resilience to adversarial conditions, providing a robust and interpretable behavioral signal for secure content identification in the evolving LLM landscape.

Magnetic-Field-Driven Insulator-Superconductor Transition in Rhombohedral Graphene

Recent studies of rhombohedral multilayer graphene (RMG) have revealed a variety of superconducting states that can be induced or enhanced by magnetic fields, reinforcing RMG as a powerful platform for investigating novel superconductivity. Here we report an insulator-superconductor transition driven by in-plane magnetic fields B|| in rhombohedral hexalayer graphene. The upper critical in-plane field of 2T violates the Pauli limit, and an analysis based on isospin symmetry breaking supports a spin-polarized superconductor. At in-plane B = 0, such spin-polarized superconductor transitions into an insulator, exhibiting a thermally activated gap of 0.1 meV. In addition, we observe four superconducting states in the hole-doped regime, as well as phases with orbital multiferroicity near charge neutrality point. These findings substantially enrich the phase diagram of rhombohedral graphene and provide new insight into the microscopic mechanisms of superconductivity

Pareto Set Learning for Neural Multi-objective Combinatorial Optimization

Multiobjective combinatorial optimization (MOCO) problems can be found in many real-world applications. However, exactly solving these problems would be very challenging, particularly when they are NP-hard. Many handcrafted heuristic methods have been proposed to tackle different MOCO problems over the past decades. In this work, we generalize the idea of neural combinatorial optimization, and develop a learning-based approach to approximate the whole Pareto set for a given MOCO problem without further search procedure. We propose a single preference-conditioned model to directly generate approximate Pareto solutions for any trade-off preference, and design an efficient multiobjective reinforcement learning algorithm to train this model. Our proposed method can be treated as a learning-based extension for the widely-used decomposition-based multiobjective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA/D). It uses a single model to accommodate all the possible preferences, whereas other methods use a finite number of solutions to approximate the Pareto set. Experimental results show that our proposed method significantly outperforms some other methods on the multiobjective traveling salesman problem, multiobjective vehicle routing problem, and multiobjective knapsack problem in terms of solution quality, speed, and model efficiency.

Aggregate Modeling and Equilibrium Analysis of the Crowdsourcing Market for Autonomous Vehicles

Autonomous vehicles (AVs) have the potential of reshaping the human mobility in a wide variety of aspects. This paper focuses on a new possibility that the AV owners have the option of "renting" their AVs to a company, which can use these collected AVs to provide on-demand ride services without any drivers. We call such a mobility market with AV renting options the "AV crowdsourcing market". This paper establishes an aggregate equilibrium model with multiple transport modes to analyze the AV crowdsourcing market. The modeling framework can capture the customers' mode choices and AV owners' rental decisions with the presence of traffic congestion. Then, we explore different scenarios that either maximize the crowdsourcing platform's profit or maximize social welfare. Gradient-based optimization algorithms are designed for solving the problems. The results obtained by numerical examples reveal the welfare enhancement and the strong profitability of the AV crowdsourcing service. However, when the crowdsourcing scale is small, the crowdsourcing platform might not be profitable. A second-best pricing scheme is able to avoid such undesirable cases. The insights generated from the analyses provide guidance for regulators, service providers and citizens to make future decisions regarding the utilization of the AV crowdsourcing markets for serving the good of the society.

Controllable Pareto Multi-Task Learning

A multi-task learning (MTL) system aims at solving multiple related tasks at the same time. With a fixed model capacity, the tasks would be conflicted with each other, and the system usually has to make a trade-off among learning all of them together. For many real-world applications where the trade-off has to be made online, multiple models with different preferences over tasks have to be trained and stored. This work proposes a novel controllable Pareto multi-task learning framework, to enable the system to make real-time trade-off control among different tasks with a single model. To be specific, we formulate the MTL as a preference-conditioned multiobjective optimization problem, with a parametric mapping from preferences to the corresponding trade-off solutions. A single hypernetwork-based multi-task neural network is built to learn all tasks with different trade-off preferences among them, where the hypernetwork generates the model parameters conditioned on the preference. For inference, MTL practitioners can easily control the model performance based on different trade-off preferences in real-time. Experiments on different applications demonstrate that the proposed model is efficient for solving various MTL problems.

Dynamic ordering transitions in charged solid

The phenomenon of group motion is common in nature, ranging from the schools of fish, birds and insects, to avalanches, landslides and sand drift. If we treat objects as collectively moving particles, such phenomena can be studied from a physical point of view, and the research on many-body systems has proved that marvelous effects can arise from the simplest individuals. The motion of numerous individuals presents different dynamic phases related to the ordering of the system. However, it is usually difficult to study the dynamic ordering and their transitions through experiments. Electron bubble states formed in a two-dimensional electron gas, as a type of electron solids, can be driven by an external electric field and provide a platform to study the dynamic collective behaviors. Here, we demonstrate that noise spectrum is a powerful method to investigate the dynamics of bubble states. We observed not only the phenomena from dynamically ordered and disordered structures, but also unexpected alternations between them. Our results show that a dissipative system can convert between chaotic structures and ordered structures when tuning global parameters, which is concealed in conventional transport measurements of resistance or conductance. Moreover, charging the objects to study electrical noise spectrum in collective motions can be an additional approach to revealing dynamic ordering transitions.

Network-level rhythmic control of heterogeneous automated traffic with buses

Guaranteeing the quality of transit service is of great importance to promote the attractiveness of buses and alleviate urban traffic issues such as congestion and pollution. Emerging technologies of automated driving and V2X communication have the potential to enable the accurate control of vehicles and the efficient organization of traffic to enhance both the schedule adherence of buses and the overall network mobility. This study proposes an innovative network-level control scheme for heterogeneous automated traffic composed of buses and private cars under a full connected and automated environment. Inheriting the idea of network-level rhythmic control proposed by Lin et al. (2020), an augmented rhythmic control scheme for heterogeneous traffic, i.e., RC-H, is established to organize the mixed traffic in a rhythmic manner. Realized virtual platoons are designed for accommodating vehicles to pass through the network, including dedicated virtual platoons for buses to provide exclusive right-of-ways (ROWs) on their trips and regular virtual platoons for private cars along with an optimal assignment plan to minimize the total travel cost. A mixed-integer linear program (MILP) is formulated to optimize the RC-H scheme and a bilevel heuristic solution method is designed to relieve the computational burden of MILP. Numerical examples and simulation experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the RC-H scheme under different scenarios. The results show that the bus operation can be guaranteed and the travel delay can be minimized under various demand levels with transit priority. Moreover, compared with traffic signal control strategies, the RC-H scheme has significant advantages in handling massive traffic demand, in terms of both vehicle delay and network throughput.

Finite-thickness effect and spin polarization of the even-denominator fractional quantum Hall states

The spin-polarized even-denominator fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states in the second Landau level (LL), i.e. 5/2 and 7/2, may possess novel quasi-particle excitations obeying non-Abelian statistics. However, the spin polarization of the 7/2 FQH state has not been investigated experimentally and the spin polarization of the 5/2 FQH state from tilted field experiments remains controversial. Using a piezo-driven sample rotator with the lowest electron temperature down to 25 mK, we studied the energy gap of the even-denominator FQH states in the second LL by precise control of the tilted angles with a resolution less than 0.1°. We observed two different energy gap dependences on the in-plane magnetic field for 5/2, 7/2, other FQH states (7/3 and 8/3) in the second LL and reentrant integer quantum Hall (RIQH) states in the third LL. Though the transition fields vary from states, their corresponding in-plane magnetic lengths are comparable to the quantum well thickness of the sample, which may result from the influence of the finite-thickness effect. At low in-plane magnetic fields, before the conjectured finite-thickness effect starts to dominate, the energy gaps of both 5/2 and 7/2 states show a non-decreasing behavior, supporting spin-polarized ground states. Our results also suggest that the 7/3, 8/3 FQH states, and the RIQH states in the third LL are spin-polarized or partially spin-polarized.

Simulation Comparisons of Vehicle-based and Phase-based Traffic Control for Autonomous Vehicles at Isolated Intersections

With the advent of autonomous driving technologies, traffic control at intersections is expected to experience revolutionary changes. Various novel intersection control methods have been proposed in the existing literature, and they can be roughly divided into two categories: vehicle-based traffic control and phase-based traffic control. Phase-based traffic control can be treated as updated versions of the current intersection signal control with the incorporation of the performance of autonomous vehicle functions. Meanwhile, vehicle-based traffic control utilizes some brand-new methods, mostly in real-time fashion, to organize traffic at intersections for safe and efficient vehicle passages. However, to date, no systematic comparison between these two control categories has been performed to suggest their advantages and disadvantages. This paper conducts a series of numerical simulations under various traffic scenarios to perform a fair comparison of their performances. Specifically, we allow trajectory adjustments of incoming vehicles under phasebased traffic control, while for its vehicle-based counterpart, we implement two strategies, i.e., the first-come-first-serve strategy and the conflict-point based rolling-horizon optimization strategy. Overall, the simulation results show that vehicle-based traffic control generally incurs a negligible delay when traffic demand is low but lead to an excessive queuing time as the traffic volume becomes high. However, performance of vehicle-based traffic control may benefit from reduction in conflicting vehicle pairs. We also discovered that when autonomous driving technologies are not mature, the advantages of phase-based traffic control are much more distinct.

Type-II Ising superconductivity and anomalous metallic state in macro-size ambient-stable ultrathin crystalline films

Recent emergence of two-dimensional (2D) crystalline superconductors has provided a promising platform to investigate novel quantum physics and potential applications. To reveal essential quantum phenomena therein, ultralow temperature transport investigation on high quality ultrathin superconducting films is critically required, although it has been quite challenging experimentally. Here we report a systematic transport study on the ultrathin crystalline PdTe2 films grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). Interestingly, a new type of Ising superconductivity in 2D centrosymmetric materials is revealed by the detection of large in-plane critical field more than 7 times Pauli limit. Remarkably, in perpendicular magnetic field, we provide solid evidence of anomalous metallic state characterized by the resistance saturation at low temperatures with high quality filters. The robust superconductivity with intriguing quantum phenomena in the macro-size ambient-stable ultrathin PdTe2 films remains almost the same for 20 months, showing great potentials in electronic and spintronic applications.

Pareto Multi-Task Learning

Multi-task learning is a powerful method for solving multiple correlated tasks simultaneously. However, it is often impossible to find one single solution to optimize all the tasks, since different tasks might conflict with each other. Recently, a novel method is proposed to find one single Pareto optimal solution with good trade-off among different tasks by casting multi-task learning as multiobjective optimization. In this paper, we generalize this idea and propose a novel Pareto multi-task learning algorithm (Pareto MTL) to find a set of well-distributed Pareto solutions which can represent different trade-offs among different tasks. The proposed algorithm first formulates a multi-task learning problem as a multiobjective optimization problem, and then decomposes the multiobjective optimization problem into a set of constrained subproblems with different trade-off preferences. By solving these subproblems in parallel, Pareto MTL can find a set of well-representative Pareto optimal solutions with different trade-off among all tasks. Practitioners can easily select their preferred solution from these Pareto solutions, or use different trade-off solutions for different situations. Experimental results confirm that the proposed algorithm can generate well-representative solutions and outperform some state-of-the-art algorithms on many multi-task learning applications.

Strain-rate and temperature-driven transition in the shear transformation zone for two-dimensional amorphous solids

We couple the recently developed self-learning metabasin escape algorithm, which enables efficient exploration of the potential energy surface (PES), with shear deformation to elucidate strain-rate and temperature effects on the shear transformation zone (STZ) characteristics in two-dimensional amorphous solids. In doing so, we report a transition in the STZ characteristics that can be obtained through either increasing the temperature or decreasing the strain rate. The transition separates regions having two distinct STZ characteristics. Specifically, at high temperatures and high strain rates, we show that the STZs have characteristics identical to those that emerge from purely strain-driven, athermal quasistatic atomistic calculations. At lower temperatures and experimentally relevant strain rates, we use the newly coupled PES + shear deformation method to show that the STZs have characteristics identical to those that emerge from a purely thermally activated state. The specific changes in STZ characteristics that occur in moving from the strain-driven to thermally activated STZ regime include a 33% increase in STZ size, faster spatial decay of the displacement field, a change in the deformation mechanism inside the STZ from shear to tension, a reduction in the stress needed to nucleate the first STZ, and finally a notable loss in characteristic quadrupolar symmetry of the surrounding elastic matrix that has previously been seen in athermal, quasistatic shear studies of STZs.

Superconductivity induced by La doping in Sr1-xLaxFBiS2 system

Through a combination of X-ray diffraction, electrical transport, magnetic susceptibility, and heat capacity measurements, we report the effect of La doping on Sr in the newly discovered SrFBiS2 system. Superconducting transition with critical temperature Tc of 2.8 K, developed from a semiconducting-like normal state, was found in Sr0.5La0.5FBiS2. A strong diamagnetic signal and a clear specific heat anomaly associated with this transition were observed, confirming bulk superconductivity. The upper critical field Hc2(0) was estimated to be 1 Tesla by using the Ginzburg-Landau approach. Our experiments therefore demonstrate that bulk superconductivity can be achieved by electron doping in the SrFBiS2 system.
