Dynamic-TD3: A Novel Algorithm for UAV Path Planning with Dynamic Obstacle Trajectory Prediction

Deep reinforcement learning (DRL) finds extensive application in autonomous drone navigation within complex, high-risk environments. However, its practical deployment faces a safety-exploration dilemma: soft penalty mechanisms encourage risky trial-and-error, while most constraint-based methods suffer degraded performance under sensor noise and intent uncertainty. We propose Dynamic-TD3, a physically enhanced framework that enforces strict safety constraints while maintaining maneuverability by modeling navigation as a Constrained Markov Decision Process (CMDP). This framework integrates an Adaptive Trajectory Relational Evolution Mechanism (ATREM) to capture long-range intentions and employs a Physically Aware Gated Kalman Filter (PAG-KF) to mitigate non-stationary observation noise. The resulting state representation drives a dual-criterion policy that balances mission efficiency against hard safety constraints via Lagrangian relaxation. In experiments with aggressive dynamic threats, this approach demonstrates superior collision avoidance performance, reduced energy consumption, and smoother flight trajectories.

Error-Mitigated Quantum Simulation of Interacting Fermions with Trapped Ions

Quantum error mitigation has been extensively explored to increase the accuracy of the quantum circuits in noisy-intermediate-scale-quantum (NISQ) computation, where quantum error correction requiring additional quantum resources is not adopted. Among various error-mitigation schemes, probabilistic error cancellation (PEC) has been proposed as a general and systematic protocol that can be applied to numerous hardware platforms and quantum algorithms. However, PEC has only been tested in two-qubit systems and a superconducting multi-qubit system by learning a sparse error model. Here, we benchmark PEC using up to four trapped-ion qubits. For the benchmark, we simulate the dynamics of interacting fermions with or without spins by applying multiple Trotter steps. By tomographically reconstructing the error model and incorporating other mitigation methods such as positive probability and symmetry constraints, we are able to increase the fidelity of simulation and faithfully observe the dynamics of the Fermi-Hubbard model, including the different behavior of charge and spin of fermions. Our demonstrations can be an essential step for further extending systematic error-mitigation schemes toward practical quantum advantages.

Cross-Domain Cross-Set Few-Shot Learning via Learning Compact and Aligned Representations

Few-shot learning (FSL) aims to recognize novel queries with only a few support samples through leveraging prior knowledge from a base dataset. In this paper, we consider the domain shift problem in FSL and aim to address the domain gap between the support set and the query set. Different from previous cross-domain FSL work (CD-FSL) that considers the domain shift between base and novel classes, the new problem, termed cross-domain cross-set FSL (CDSC-FSL), requires few-shot learners not only to adapt to the new domain, but also to be consistent between different domains within each novel class. To this end, we propose a novel approach, namely stabPA, to learn prototypical compact and cross-domain aligned representations, so that the domain shift and few-shot learning can be addressed simultaneously. We evaluate our approach on two new CDCS-FSL benchmarks built from the DomainNet and Office-Home datasets respectively. Remarkably, our approach outperforms multiple elaborated baselines by a large margin, e.g., improving 5-shot accuracy by 6.0 points on average on DomainNet. Observing frustrated quantum magnetism in two-dimensional ion crystals

Two-dimensional (2D) quantum magnetism is a paradigm in strongly correlated many-body physics. The understanding of 2D quantum magnetism can be expedited by employing a controllable quantum simulator that faithfully maps 2D-spin Hamiltonians. The 2D quantum simulators can exhibit exotic phenomena such as frustrated quantum magnetism and topological order and can be used to show quantum computational advantages. Many experimental platforms are being developed, including Rydberg atoms and superconducting annealers. However, with trapped-ion systems, which showed the most advanced controllability and quantum coherence, quantum magnetism was explored in one-dimensional chains. Here, we report simulations of frustrated quantum magnetism with 2D ion crystals. We create a variety of spin-spin interactions for quantum magnets, including those that exhibit frustration by driving different vibrational modes and adiabatically prepare the corresponding ground states. The experimentally measured ground states are consistent with the theoretical predictions and are highly degenerate for geometrically frustrated spin models in two dimensions. Quantum coherence of the ground states is probed by reversing the time evolution of the B-field to the initial value and then measuring the extent to which the remaining state coincides with the initial state. Our results open the door for quantum simulations with 2D ion crystals.

Safe, efficient and socially-compatible decision of automated vehicles: a case study of unsignalized intersection driving

Safe and smooth interacting with other vehicles is one of the ultimate goals of driving automation. However, recent reports of demonstrative deployments of automated vehicles (AVs) indicate that AVs are still difficult to meet the expectation of other interacting drivers, which leads to several AV accidents involving human-driven vehicles (HVs). This is most likely due to the lack of understanding about the dynamic interaction process, especially about the human drivers. By investigating the causes of 4,300 video clips of traffic accidents, we find that the limited dynamic visual field of drivers is one leading factor in inter-vehicle interaction accidents, especially in those involving trucks. A game-theoretic decision algorithm considering social compatibility is proposed to handle the interaction with a human-driven truck at an unsignalized intersection. Starting from a probabilistic model for the visual field characteristics of truck drivers, social fitness and reciprocal altruism in the decision are incorporated in the game payoff design. Human-in-the-loop experiments are carried out, in which 24 subjects are invited to drive and interact with AVs deployed with the proposed algorithm and two comparison algorithms. Totally 207 cases of intersection interactions are obtained and analyzed, which shows that the proposed decision-making algorithm can not only improve both safety and time efficiency, but also make AV decisions more in line with the expectation of interacting human drivers. These findings can help inform the design of automated driving decision algorithms, to ensure that AVs can be safely and efficiently integrated into the human-dominated traffic.

Semi-WTC: A Practical Semi-supervised Framework for Attack Categorization through Weight-Task Consistency

Supervised learning has been widely used for attack categorization, requiring high-quality data and labels. However, the data is often imbalanced and it is difficult to obtain sufficient annotations. Moreover, supervised models are subject to real-world deployment issues, such as defending against unseen artificial attacks. To tackle the challenges, we propose a semi-supervised fine-grained attack categorization framework consisting of an encoder and a two-branch structure and this framework can be generalized to different supervised models. The multilayer perceptron with residual connection is used as the encoder to extract features and reduce the complexity. The Recurrent Prototype Module (RPM) is proposed to train the encoder effectively in a semi-supervised manner. To alleviate the data imbalance problem, we introduce the Weight-Task Consistency (WTC) into the iterative process of RPM by assigning larger weights to classes with fewer samples in the loss function. In addition, to cope with new attacks in real-world deployment, we propose an Active Adaption Resampling (AAR) method, which can better discover the distribution of unseen sample data and adapt the parameters of encoder. Experimental results show that our model outperforms the state-of-the-art semi-supervised attack detection methods with a 3% improvement in classification accuracy and a 90% reduction in training time.

Error-Mitigated Quantum Gates Exceeding Physical Fidelities in a Trapped-Ion System

Various quantum applications can be reduced to estimating expectation values, which are inevitably deviated by operational and environmental errors. Although errors can be tackled by quantum error correction, the overheads are far from being affordable for near-term technologies. To alleviate the detrimental effects of errors, quantum error mitigation techniques have been proposed, which require no additional qubit resources. Here, we benchmark the performance of a quantum error mitigation technique based on probabilistic error cancellation in a trapped-ion system. Our results clearly show that effective gate fidelities exceed physical fidelities, i.e. we surpass the break-even point of eliminating gate errors, by programming quantum circuits. The error rates are effectively reduced from $(1.10\pm 0.12)\times10^{-3}$ to $(1.44\pm 5.28)\times10^{-5}$ and from $(0.99\pm 0.06)\times10^{-2}$ to $(0.96\pm 0.10)\times10^{-3}$ for single- and two-qubit gates, respectively. Our demonstration opens up the possibility of implementing high-fidelity computations on a near-term noisy quantum device.
