Tetrahedral Symmetry A$_{\bf 4}$ in Anti-SU(5) GUT

We construct a flavor model in an anti-SU(5) GUT with a tetrahedral symmetry $A_4$. We choose a basis where $Q_{text{em}}=-\frac13$ quarks and charged leptons are already mass eigenstates. This choice is possible from the $A_4$ symmetry. Then, matter representation $\overline{10}_{-1}^{\rm\, matter}$ contains both a quark doublet and a heavy neutrino $N$, which enables us to use the $A_4$ symmetry to both $Q_{text{em}}=+\frac23$ quark masses and neutrino masses (through the see-saw via $N$). This is made possible because the anti-SU(5) breaking is achieved by the Higgs fields transforming as anti-symmetric representations of SU(5), $\overline{10}_{-1}^H\oplus 10_{+1}^H$, reducing the rank-5 anti-SU(5) group down to the rank-4 standard model group \smg. For possible mass matrices, the $A_4$ symmetry predictions on mass matrices at field theory level are derived. Finally, an illustration from string compactification is presented.

Jarlskog determinant and data on flavor matrices

The essences of the weak CP violation, the quark and lepton Jarlskog invariants, are determined toward future model buildings beyond the Standard Model (SM). The equivalence of two calculations of Jarlskog invariants gives a bound on the CP phase in some parametrization. Satisfying the unitarity condition, we obtain the CKM and MNS matrices from the experimental data, and present the results in matrix forms. The Jarlskog determinant $J^q$ in the quark sector is found to be $\sim 3.11\times 10^{-5}|\sin\delks|$ while $J^\ell$ in the leptonic sector is $\sim 2.96\times 10^{-2}|\sin\delksl|$ in the normal hierarchy parametrization.

A possible relation between leptogenesis and PMNS phases

We propose a new scenario for baryogenesis through leptogenesis, where the CP phase relevant for leptogenesis is connected directly to the PMNS phase(s) in the light neutrino mixing matrix. The scenario is realized in case only one CP phase appears in the full theory, originating from the complex vacuum expextation value of a standard model singlet field. In order to realize this scheme, the electroweak symmetry is required to be broken during the leptogenesis era and a new loop diagram with an intermediate $W$ boson exchange including the low energy neutrino mixing matrix should play the dominant contribution to the CP violation for leptogenesis. In this letter, we discuss the new basic mechanism, which we call type-II leptogenesis, and give an estimate for maximally reachable baryon asymmetry depending on the PMNS phases.

Unifying CP violations of quark and lepton sectors

A preliminary determination of the Dirac phase in the PMNS matrix is $\dell\approx -\fracπ{2}$. A rather accurately determined Jarlskog invariant $J$ in the CKM matrix is close to the maximum. Since the phases in the CKM and PMNS matrices will be accurately determined in the future, it is an interesting problem to relate these two phases. This can be achieved in a families-unified grand unification if the weak CP violation is introduced spontaneously {\it à la} Froggatt and Nielsen at a high energy scale, where only one meaningful Dirac CP phase appears.

Calculations of resonance enhancement factor in axion-search tube-experiments

It is pointed out that oscillating current density, produced due to the coupling between an external magnetic field and the cosmic axion field, can excite the TM resonant modes inside an open-ended cavity (tube). By systematically solving the field equations of axion-electrodynamics we obtain explicit expressions for the oscillating fields induced inside a cylindrical tube. We calculate the enhancement factor when a resonance condition is met. While the power obtained for TM modes replicates the previous result, we emphasize that the knowledge of explicit field configurations inside a tube opens up new ways to design axion experiments including a recent proposal to detect the induced fields using a superconducting LC circuit. In addition, as an example, we estimate the induced fields in a cylindrical tube in the presence of a static uniform magnetic field applied only to a part of its volume.

Final state interaction phases using data from CP asymmetries

Evidence of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics might be revealed through CP violation. Experimental results from BaBar, Belle, and most recently from LHCb are very interesting in this respect. It is important to calculate various CP violation parameters within the SM. In this Letter, the final state interaction (FSI) phases with the CKM matrix are calculated using the recent experimental results from LHCb on CP violation in B0 and Bs0 meson decays. To obtain the allowed regions of the FSI phases, a simplified form of the Jarlskog determinant of the CKM matrix is used and the CP phase delta close to the maximal value of pi/2 is found. Then, the asymmetry data on B0 and Bs0 from LHCb is used to explore graphically the allowed regions of the FSI phases.

Some properties of the de Sitter black holes in three dimensional spacetime

We investigate the physical properties of the de Sitter spacetime and new type-de Sitter black holes in new massive gravity, a higher derivative gravity theory in three dimensions. We calculate thermodynamic quantities and check that the first law of thermodynamics is satisfied. In particular, we obtain the energies of the de Sitter spacetime and new type-de Sitter black holes from the renormalized Brown-York boundary stress tensor on the Euclidean surfaces at late temporal infinity. We also obtain the quasinormal modes and by using them we find that the entropy spectra are equally spaced via semi-classical quantization.

Thermodynamics from field equations for black holes with multiple horizons

The first law of black hole thermodynamics can be read off from the field equations at the horizon. Until now, for black holes with multiple horizons the field equations only at the outer horizon were employed with a particular constraint. In this paper, however, we suggest that for a black hole with multiple horizons the field equations at the inner horizon as well as the outer horizon should be needed in order to obtain the first law of black hole thermodynamics in general.

AdS/BCFT Correspondence for Higher Curvature Gravity: An Example

We consider the effects of higher curvature terms on a holographic dual description of boundary conformal field theory. Specifically, we consider three-dimensional gravity with a specific combination of Ricci tensor square and curvature scalar square, so called, new massive gravity. We show that a boundary entropy and an entanglement entropy are given by similar expression with those of the Einstein gravity case when we introduce an {\it effective} Newton's constant and an {\it effective} cosmological constant. We also show that the holographic g-theorem still holds in this extension, and we give some comments about the central charge dependence of boundary entropy in the holographic construction. In the same way, we consider new type black holes and comment on the boundary profile. Moreover, we reproduce these results through auxiliary field formalism in this specific higher curvature gravity.

Entropy spectra of black holes from resonance modes in scattering by the black holes

Since the Bekenstein's proposal that a black hole has equally spaced area spectrum, the quasinormal modes as the characteristic modes of a black hole have been used in obtaining the horizon area spectrum of the black hole. However, the area spectrum of the Kerr black hole in some previous works was inconsistent with the Bekenstein's proposal. In this paper, noting that black holes can have three types of resonance modes which are quasinormal modes (QNM), total transmission modes (TTM), and total reflection modes (TRM), we propose that all of these modes in highly damped regime should be used in quantizing the black hole. Although the QNM and the TTM of the Kerr black hole give us complicated quantization conditions from the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization of action variable, we find a very simple result from the TRM. It gives equally spaced outer horizon area. Therefore by Bekenstein-Hawking area law we find that the Kerr black hole has universal behavior of the equally spaced entropy spectrum. With the same argument, we find that the Reissner-Nordstrom black hole also has equally spaced entropy spectrum.

Holographic Renormalization and Stress Tensors in New Massive Gravity

We obtain holographically renormalized boundary stress tensors with the emphasis on a special point in the parameter space of three dimensional new massive gravity, using the so-called Fefferman-Graham coordinates with relevant counter terms. Through the linearized equations of motion with a standard prescription, we also obtain correlators among these stress tensors. We argue that the self-consistency of holographic renormalization determines counter terms up to unphysical ambiguities. Using these renormalized stress tensors in Fefferman-Graham coordinates, we obtain the central charges of dual CFT, and mass and angular momentum of some $AdS$ black hole solutions. These results are consistent with the previous ones obtained by other methods. In this study on the Fefferman-Graham expansion of new massive gravity, some aspects of higher curvature gravity are revealed.

Quasi Normal Modes for New Type Black Holes in New Massive Gravity

We obtain the quasi-normal mode frequencies of scalar perturbation on new type black holes in three dimensional new massive gravity. In some special cases, the exact quasi-normal mode frequencies are obtained by solving scalar field equations exactly. On some parameter regions, the highly damped quasi-normal mode frequencies are obtained in an analytic form by the so-called Stokes line method. This study on quasi-normal modes shed some light on the mysterious nature of these black holes. We also comment about AdS/CFT correspondence and the entropy/area spectrum for new type black holes.

AdS Black Hole Solutions in the Extended New Massive Gravity

We have obtained (warped) AdS black hole solutions in the three dimensional extended new massive gravity. We investigate some properties of black holes and obtain central charges of the two dimensional dual CFT. To obtain the central charges, we use the relation between entropy and temperature according to the AdS/CFT dictionary. For AdS black holes, one can also use the central charge function formalism which leads to the same results.

Area spectra of the rotating BTZ black hole from quasinormal modes

Following Bekenstein's suggestion that the horizon area of a black hole should be quantized, the discrete spectrum of the horizon area has been investigated in various ways. By considering the quasinormal mode of a black hole, we obtain the transition frequency of the black hole, analogous to the case of a hydrogen atom, in the semiclassical limit. According to Bohr's correspondence principle, this transition frequency at large quantum number is equal to classical oscillation frequency. For the corresponding classical system of periodic motion with this oscillation frequency, an action variable is identified and quantized via Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization, from which the quantized spectrum of the horizon area is obtained. This method can be applied for black holes with discrete quasinormal modes. As an example, we apply the method for the both non-rotating and rotating BTZ black holes and obtain that the spectrum of the horizon area is equally spaced and independent of the cosmological constant for both cases.

Area spectra versus entropy spectra in black holes in topologically massive gravity

We consider the area and entropy spectra of black holes in topologically massive gravity with gravitational Chern-Simons term. The examples we consider are the BTZ black hole and the warped AdS black hole. For the non-rotating BTZ black hole, the area and entropy spectra are equally spaced and independent of the coupling constant $\v$ of the Chern-Simons term. For the rotating BTZ black hole case, the spectra of the inner and outer horizon areas are not equally spaced in general and dependent of the coupling constant $\v$. However the entropy spectrum is equally spaced and independent of the coupling constant $\v$. For the warped AdS black holes for $\v >1$ by using the quasinormal modes obtained without imposing the boundary condition at radial infinity we find again that the entropy spectrum is equally spaced and independent of the coupling constant $\v$, while the spectra of the inner and outer horizon areas are not equally spaced and dependent of the coupling constant $\v$. Our result implies that the entropy spectrum has a universal behavior regardless of the presence of the gravitational Chern-Simons term, and therefore it implies that the entropy is more `fundamental' than the horizon area.

Kähler moduli inflation and WMAP7

Inflationary potentials are investigated for specific models in type IIB string theory via flux compactification. As concrete models, we investigate several cases where the internal spaces are weighted projective spaces. The models we consider have two, three, or four Kähler moduli. The Kähler moduli play a role of inflaton fields and we consider the cases where only one of the moduli behaves as the inflaton field. For the cases with more than two moduli, we choose the diagonal basis for the expression of the Calabi-Yau volume, which can be written down as a function of four-cycle. With the combination of multiple moduli, we can express the multi-dimensional problem as an effective one-dimensional problem. In the large volume scenario, the potentials of these three models turn out to be of the same type. By taking the specific limit of the relation between the moduli and the volume, the potentials are reduced to simpler ones which induce inflation. As a toy model we first consider the simple potential. We calculate the slow roll parameters $ε$, $η$ and $ξ$ for each inflationary potential. Then, we check whether the potentials give reasonable spectral indices $n_s$ and their running $α_s$'s by comparing with the recently released seven-year WMAP data. For both models, we see reasonable spectral indices for the number of e-folding $47<N_e<61$. Conversely, by inserting the observed seven-year WMAP data, we see that the potential of the toy model gives requisite number of e-folds while the potential of the Kähler moduli gives much smaller number of e-folding. Finally, we see that two models do not produce reasonable values of the running of the spectral index.

Mass and Angular momentum of Black Holes in New Massive Gravity

We obtain mass and angular momentum of black holes as conserved charges in three dimensional new massive gravity, after presenting the explicit expression for the potential of the conserved charges. This confirms the expression of those charges obtained in several ways, in particular through AdS/CFT correspondence, and shows us that the first law of black hole thermodynamics is valid in these black holes. We also comment about conserved charges in new type black holes with the emphasis on the AdS/CFT correspondence as guiding principle.

Quantization of horizon areas of the Kerr black hole

Since the Bekenstein's proposal that a black hole has equally spaced area spectrum, the quasinormal modes as the characteristic modes of a black hole have been used in obtaining the horizon area spectrum of the black hole. However, the area spectrum of the Kerr black hole in some previous works was inconsistent with the Bekenstein's proposal. In this paper, we notice that the Kerr black hole has three types of resonance modes which are quasinormal modes (QNM), total transmission modes (TTM), and total reflection modes (TRM). All of these resonances represent highly damped oscillations and only depend on the black hole parameters which are mass, charge and angular momentum of the black hole. We propose that all of these modes should be used in quantizing the black hole. With all these modes, we find that both the inner and outer horizon areas of the Kerr black hole are equally spaced. Similar behavior is also found in the Reissner-Nordstrom black hole.

Behavior of tachyon in string cosmology based on gauged WZW model

We investigate a string theoretic cosmological model in the context of the gauged Wess-Zumino-Witten model. Our model is based on a product of non-compact coset space and a spectator flat space; $[SL(2,R)/U(1)]_k \times {\bf R}^2$. We extend the formerly studied semiclassical consideration with infinite Kac-Moody level $k$ to a finite one. In this case, the tachyon field appears in the effective action, and we solve the Einstein equation to determine the behavior of tachyon as a function of time. We find that tachyon field dominates over dilaton field in early times. In particular, we consider the energy conditions of the matter fields consisting of the dilaton and the tachyon which affect the initial singularity. We find that not only the strong energy but also the null energy condition is violated.

The Entropy Function for the extremal Kerr-(anti-)de Sitter Black Holes

Based on the entropy function formalism, we consider the extremal Kerr-(anti-)de Sitter black holes in 4-dimensions. Solving differential equations exactly, which are obtained by extremizing the entropy function, we find agreement of the result with Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. Concerning the higher derivative corrections, we extend the computation to the case with Gauss-Bonnet term.

Non-supersymmetric Attractor with the Cosmological Constant

As a test for the non-supersymmetric attractor mechanism, we consider extremal Reissner-Nordström-(anti-)de Sitter black holes. Based on the simple observation that the near-horizon geometry of a generic extremal black hole contains two-dimensional anti-de Sitter factor even in the presence of the positive cosmological constant, we apply Ashoke Sen's entropy function method to compute the entropy of these black holes. We find the results which exactly agree with the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. We also obtain the constant higher-order correction to the entropy due to the Gauss-Bonnet term.

Casimir Effect in $κ$-deformed Theory

Quantum mechanical fluctuations in an interval give rise to the Casimir effect, which destabilizes the size of the interval. This can be problematic in constructing Kaluza-Klein theories. We consider the possibility that a breakdown of the Poincaré symmetry in an extra dimension can solve this instability problem. As a specific example, we consider the space-time with a $κ$-deformed Poincaré algebra, calculate the Casimir force between two plates, and find that we can have an interval with a stable size.

N=2 Supersymmetric SO(N)/Sp(N) Gauge Theories from Matrix Model

We use the matrix model to describe the N=2 SO(N)/Sp(N) supersymmetric gauge theories with massive hypermultiplets in the fundamental representation. By taking the tree level superpotential perturbation made of a polynomial of a scalar chiral multiplet, the effective action for the eigenvalues of chiral multiplet can be obtained. By varying this action with respect to an eigenvalue, a loop equation is obtained. By analyzing this equation, we derive the Seiberg-Witten curve within the context of matrix model.

Supersymmetric SO(N_c) Gauge Theory and Matrix Model

By applying the method of Dijkgraaf-Vafa, we study matrix model related to supersymmetric SO(N_c) gauge theory with N_f flavors of quarks in the vector representation found by Intriligator-Seiberg. By performing the matrix integral over tree level superpotential characterized by light meson fields (mass deformation) in electric theory, we reproduce the exact effective superpotential in the gauge theory side. Moreover, we do similar analysis in magnetic theory. It turns out the matrix descriptions of both electric and magnetic theories are the same: Seiberg duality in the gauge theory side.

Condensation of Localized Tachyons and Spacetime Supersymmetry

We consider condensation of localized closed string tachyons by examining the recent proposal of Harvey, Kutasov, Martinec, and Moore. We first observe that the $g_{\rm cl}$ defined by HKMM does not reflect the space-time supersymmetry when the model has the SUSY. Especially for ${\bf C}^2/{\bf Z}_N$ models, $g_{\rm cl}$ defined by them is highly peaked along the supersymmetric points in the space of orbifolds, which is unsatisfactory property of the "potential" of the RG-flow. We give the modified definition of the $g_{\rm cl}$ in type II cases such that it has a valley along the supersymmetric points in the orbifold moduli space. New definition predicts that the processes suggested by Adams, Polchinski and Silverstein and was argued to be forbidden by HKMM are in fact allowed.

Phenomenology of Particle Production and Propagation in String-Motivated Canonical Noncommutative Spacetime

We outline a phenomenological programme for the search of effects induced by (string-motivated) canonical noncommutative spacetime. The tests we propose are based, in analogy with a corresponding programme developed over the last few years for the study of Lie-algebra noncommutative spacetimes, on the role of the noncommutativity parameters in the $E(p)$ dispersion relation. We focus on the role of deformed dispersion relations in particle-production collision processes, where the noncommutativity parameters would affect the threshold equation, and in the dispersion of gamma rays observed from distant astrophysical sources. We emphasize that the studies here proposed have the advantage of involving particles of relatively high energies, and may therefore be less sensitive to "contamination" (through IR/UV mixing) from the UV sector of the theory. We also explore the possibility that the relevant deformation of the dispersion relations could be responsible for the experimentally-observed violations of the GZK cutoff for cosmic rays and could have a role in the observation of hard photons from distant astrophysical sources.

Supersymmetries and Hopf-duality in the Penrose Limit of AdS_3 times S^3 times T^4

We investigate various aspects of the plane wave geometries obtained from D1/D5-brane system. We study the effect of Hopf-duality on the supersymmetries preserved by the Penrose limit of $AdS_3\times S^3\times T^4$ geometry. In type-IIB case, we first show that the Penrose limit makes the size of the `would-be' internal torus comparable to that of the other directions. Based on this observation, we consider, in taking the Penrose limit, the generalization of the null geodesic to incorporate the tilted direction between the equator of $S^3$ and one of the torus directions. For generic values of the tilting angle, supersymmetries are not preserved. When the limit is taken along the torus direction, 16 supersymmetries are preserved. For the ordinary Penrose limit, 16 generic and 8 `supernumerary' supersymmetries are observed. In the Penrose limit of Hopf-dualized type-IIA geometry, only 4 supersymmetries are preserved. We classify all the Killing spinors according to their periodic properties along some relevant coordinates.

Orientifold in Conifold and Quantum Deformation

We describe orientifold operation defining O3 plane in the conifold background by deriving it from that of O4 plane in the Type IIA brane construction by T-duality. We find that both $O3^+$ and $O3^-$ are at the tip of the cone so that there is no net untwisted RR charge. RG analysis shows that we need two `fractional' branes for the conformal invariance in orientifolded conifold. We argue that the gravity solution is the same as Klebanov and Tsyetlin since SUGRA cannot distinguish the orientifolds and D branes in this case. We describe the duality cascade as well as the quantum deformation of the moduli space of the field theory in the presence of the orientifold. The finitely resolved conifold does not allow the orientifold, while deformed conifold leaves us an unresolved issue on supersymmetry.

Casimir Force in Compact Noncommutative Extra Dimensions and Radius Stabilization

We compute the one loop Casimir energy of an interacting scalar field in a compact noncommutative space of $R^{1,d}\times T^2_θ$, where we have ordinary flat $1+d$ dimensional Minkowski space and two dimensional noncommuative torus. We find that next order correction due to the noncommutativity still contributes an attractive force and thus will have a quantum instability. However, the case of vector field in a periodic boundary condition gives repulsive force for $d>5$ and we expect a stabilized radius. This suggests a stabilization mechanism for a senario in Kaluza-Klein theory, where some of the extra dimensions are noncommutative.

AdS_3 Black Hole Entropy and the Spectral Flow on the Horizon

We consider the entropy problem of AdS_3 black holes using the conformal field theory at the horizon. We observe that the supersymmetry is enhanced at the horizon of massless AdS_3 black hole. This allows us to determine the vacuum of the modular invariant conformal field theory to be the NS-ground state (which corresponds to AdS_3 spacetime). This is smoothly related to the R-ground state (corresponding to massless black hole) by a spectral flow, which can be understood as a superconformal transformation.

Mass Gap in Kaluza-Klein Spectrum in a Network of Brane Worlds

We consider the Newton's force law for brane world consisting of periodic configuration of branes. We show that it supports a massless graviton. Furthermore, this massless mode is well separated from the Kaluza-Klein spectrum by a mass gap. Thus most of the problems in phenomenology coming from continuum of Kaluza-Klein modes without mass gap are potentially cured in such a model.

Modeling a network of brane worlds

We study junctions of supersymmetric domain walls in N=1 supergravity theories in four dimensions, coupled to a chiral superfield with quartic superpotential having $Z_3$ symmetry. After deriving a BPS equation of the domain wall junction, we consider a stable hexagonal configuration of network of brane junctions, which are only approximately locally BPS. We propose a model for a mechanism of supersymmetry breaking without loss of stability, where a messenger for the SUSY breaking comes from the neighboring anti-BPS junction world, propagating along the domain walls connection them.

Compactifications of F-Theory on Calabi-Yau Threefolds at Constant Coupli ng

Generalizing the work of Sen, we analyze special points in the moduli space of the compactification of the F-theory on elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau threefolds where the coupling remains constant. These contain points where they can be realized as orbifolds of six torus $T^6$ by $Z_m \times Z_n (m, n=2, 3, 4, 6)$. At various types of intersection points of singularities, we find that the enhancement of gauge symmetries arises from the intersection of two kinds of singularities. We also argue that when we take the Hirzebruch surface as a base for the Calabi- Yau threefold, the condition for constant coupling corresponds to the case where the point like instantons coalesce, giving rise to enhanced gauge group of $Sp(k)$.

For SU(n) N=1 SQCD with $N_f$ fermion case ($N_f < N_c)$, we find that the superpotential from M-theory and the gauge theory agree precisely. This gives a direct evidence of the validity of Witten's M-theory method for calculating the super potential.

Integrable Models, SUSY Gauge Theories, and String Theory

We consider the close relation between duality in N=2 SUSY gauge theories and integrable models. Various integrable models ranging from Toda lattices, Calogero models, spinning tops, and spin chains are related to the quantum moduli space of vacua of N=2 SUSY gauge theories. In particular, SU(3) gauge theories with two flavors of massless quarks in the fundamental representation can be related to the spectral curve of the Goryachev-Chaplygin top, which is a Nahm's equation in disguise. This can be generalized to the cases with massive quarks, and N_f = 0,1,2, where a system with seven dimensional phase space has the relevant hyperelliptic curve appear in the Painlevé test. To understand the stringy origin of the integrability of these theories we obtain exact nonperturbative point particle limit of type II string compactified on a Calabi-Yau manifold, which gives the hyperelliptic curve of SU(2) QCD with N_f=1 hypermultiplet.

Integrable structure in supersymmetric gauge theories with massive hypermultiplets

We study the quantum moduli space of vacua of $N=2$ supersymmetric $SU(N_c)$ gauge theories coupled to $N_f$ flavors of quarks in the fundamental representation. We identify the moduli space of the $N_c = 3$ and $N_f=2$ massless case with the full spectral curve obtained from the Lax representation of the Goryachev-Chaplygin top. For the case with {\it massive} quarks, we present an integrable system where the corresponding hyperelliptic curve parametrizing the Laurent solution coincides with that of the moduli space of $N_{c}=3$ with $N_{f}=0, 1, 2$. We discuss possible generalizations of the integrable systems relevant to gauge theories with $N_c \neq 3 $ and general $N_f$.

Nonrelativistic Factorizable Scattering Theory of Multicomponent Calogero-Sutherland Model

We relate two integrable models in (1+1) dimensions, namely, multicomponent Calogero-Sutherland model with particles and antiparticles interacting via the hyperbolic potential and the nonrelativistic factorizable $S$-matrix theory with $SU(N)$-invariance. We find complete solutions of the Yang-Baxter equations without implementing the crossing symmetry, and one of them is identified with the scattering amplitudes derived from the Schrödinger equation of the Calogero-Sutherland model. This particular solution is of interest in that it cannot be obtained as a nonrelativistic limit of any known relativistic solutions of the $SU(N)$-invariant Yang-Baxter equations.

Yangian Symmetries in the $SU(N)_1$ WZW Model and the Calogero-Sutherland Model

We study the $SU(N)$, level $1$ Wess-Zumino-Witten model, with affine primary fields as spinon fields of fundamental representation. By evaluating the action of the Yangian generators $Q_{0}^{a}, Q_{1}^{a}$ and the Hamiltonian $H_2$ on two spinon states we get a new connection between this conformal field theory and the Calogero-Sutherland model with $SU(N)$ spin. This connection clearly confirms the need for the $W_3$ generator in $H_2$ and an additional term in the $Q^{a}_{1}$. We also evaluate some energy spectra of $H_2$, by acting it on multi-spinon states.

Thermodynamics of Non-Relativistic Scattering Theory

We use thermodynamic Bethe ansatz to study nonrelativistic scattering theory of low energy excitations of 1D Hubbard model, using the $S$-matrices proposed by Eßler and Korepin. This model can be described by two types of excitation states, holons and spinons, as asymptotic states. In the attractive regime, the spinon is massive while the holon is massless. The situation is reversed with a repulsive coupling. We derive that the central charge of the Hubbard model in the IR limit is $c=1$ while it vanishes in the UV limit. The contribution is due to the massless degree of freedom, i.e. the holon for the attractive regime, and the massive mode decouples completely. This result is consistent with various known results based on lattice Bethe ansatz computations. Our results make it possible to use the $S$-matrices of the excitations to compute more interesting quantities like correlation functions.

Possible Tests of Conformal Turbulence through Boundaries

We investigate various boundary conditions in two dimensional turbulence systematically in the context of conformal field theory. Keeping the conformal invariance, we can either change the shape of boundaries through finite conformal transformations, or insert boundary operators so as to handle more general cases. Effects of such operations will be reflected in physically measurable quantities such as the energy power spectrum $E(k)$ or the average velocity profiles. We propose that these effects can be used as a possible test of conformal turbulence in an experimental setting. We also study the periodic boundary conditions, i.e. turbulence on a torus geometry. The dependence of moduli parameter $q$ appears explictly in the one point functions in the theory, which can also be tested.

We show that the inertial range of homogeneous and isotropic turbulence with constant enstrophy flux develops in a distant region from the boundary. Thus in the presence of an anisotropic boundary, these exact solutions of turbulence generalize Kolmogorov's solution consistently and differ from the Polyakov's bulk case which requires a fine tunning of coefficients. The simplest solution in our case is given by the minimal model of $p=2, q=33$ and moreover we find a fixed point of solutions when $p,q$ become large.
