Finite horizon stochastic $H_2/H_\infty$ control for continuous-time mean-field systems with Poisson jumps

The stochastic $H_2/H_\infty$ control problem for continuous-time mean-field stochastic differential equations with Poisson jumps over finite horizon is investigated in this paper. Continuous and jump diffusion terms in the system depend not only on the state but also on the control input, external disturbance, and mean-field components. By employing the quasi-linear technique and the method of completing the square, a mean-field stochastic jump bounded real lemma of the system is derived, which plays a crucial role in solving stochastic $H_2/H_\infty$ control problem. It is demonstrated in this study that the feasibility of the stochastic $H_2/H_\infty$ control problem is equivalent to the solvability of four sets of cross-coupled generalized differential Riccati equations, thus generalizing the previous results to mean-field jump-diffusion systems. To validate the proposed methodology, a numerical simulation example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the control strategy. The results establish a systematic approach for designing $H_2/H_\infty$ controllers that simultaneously guarantee the robustness against disturbances and optimal performance for interacting particle systems.

A Modified Method of Successive Approximations for Stochastic Recursive Optimal Control Problems

Based on the stochastic maximum principle for the partially coupled forward-backward stochastic control system (FBSCS for short), a modified method of successive approximations (MSA for short) is established for stochastic recursive optimal control problems. The second-order adjoint processes are introduced in the augmented Hamiltonian minimization step since the control domain is not necessarily convex. Thanks to the theory of bounded mean oscillation martingales (BMO martingales for short), we give a delicate proof of the error estimate and then prove the convergence of the modified MSA algorithm. In a special case, we obtain a logarithmic convergence rate. When the control domain is convex and compact, a sufficient condition which makes the control returned from the MSA algorithm be a near-optimal control is given for a class of linear FBSCSs.

BSDEs driven by G-Brownian motion under degenerate case and its application to the regularity of fully nonlinear PDEs

In this paper, we obtain the existence and uniqueness theorem for backward stochastic differential equation driven by G-Brownian motion (G-BSDE) under degenerate case. Moreover, we propose a new probabilistic method based on the representation theorem of G-expectation and weak convergence to obtain the regularity of fully nonlinear PDE associated to G-BSDE.

Maximum principle for discrete-time stochastic optimal control problem under distribution uncertainty

In this paper, we study a discrete-time stochastic optimal control problem under distribution uncertainty with convex control domain. By weak convergence method and Sion's minimax theorem, we obtain the variational inequality for cost functional under a reference probability $P^{\ast}$. Moreover, under the square integrability condition for noise and control, we establish the discrete-time stochastic maximum principle under $P^{\ast}$. Finally, we introduce a backward algorithm to calculate the reference probability $P^{\ast}$ and the optimal control $u^{\ast}$.

Novel multi-step predictor-corrector schemes for backward stochastic differential equations

Novel multi-step predictor-corrector numerical schemes have been derived for approximating decoupled forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs). The stability and high order rate of convergence of the schemes are rigorously proved. We also present a sufficient and necessary condition for the stability of the schemes. Numerical experiments are given to illustrate the stability and convergence rates of the proposed methods.

Three algorithms for solving high-dimensional fully-coupled FBSDEs through deep learning

Recently, the deep learning method has been used for solving forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs) and parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs). It has good accuracy and performance for high-dimensional problems. In this paper, we mainly solve fully coupled FBSDEs through deep learning and provide three algorithms. Several numerical results show remarkable performance especially for high-dimensional cases.

Explicit solutions for continuous time mean-variance portfolio selection with nonlinear wealth equations

This paper concerns the continuous time mean-variance portfolio selection problem with a special nonlinear wealth equation. This nonlinear wealth equation has a nonsmooth coefficient and the dual method developed in [6] does not work. We invoke the HJB equation of this problem and give an explicit viscosity solution of the HJB equation. Furthermore, via this explicit viscosity solution, we obtain explicitly the efficient portfolio strategy and efficient frontier for this problem. Finally, we show that our nonlinear wealth equation can cover three important cases.

Recursive utility maximization under partial information

This paper concerns the recursive utility maximization problem under partial information. We first transform our problem under partial information into the one under full information. When the generator of the recursive utility is concave, we adopt the variational formulation of the recursive utility which leads to a stochastic game problem and a characterization of the saddle point of the game is obtained. Then, we study the K-ignorance case and explicit saddle points of several examples are obtained. At last, when the generator of the recursive utility is smooth, we employ the terminal perturbation method to characterize the optimal terminal wealth.

Recursive utility optimization with concave coefficients

This paper concerns the recursive utility maximization problem. We assume that the coefficients of the wealth equation and the recursive utility are concave. Then some interesting and important cases with nonlinear and nonsmooth coefficients satisfy our assumption. After given an equivalent backward formulation of our problem, we employ the Fenchel-Legendre transform and derive the corresponding variational formulation. By the convex duality method, the primal "sup-inf" problem is translated to a dual minimization problem and the saddle point of our problem is derived. Finally, we obtain the optimal terminal wealth. To illustrate our results, three cases for investors with ambiguity aversion are explicitly worked out under some special assumptions.

Stochastic maximum principle for stochastic recursive optimal control problem under volatility ambiguity

We study a stochastic recursive optimal control problem in which the cost functional is described by the solution of a backward stochastic differential equation driven by G-Brownian motion. Some of the economic and financial optimization problems with volatility ambiguity can be formulated as such problems. Different from the classical variational approach, we establish the maximum principle by the linearization and weak convergence methods.

Dynamic Programming Principle for Stochastic Recursive Optimal Control Problem under G-framework

In this paper, we study a stochastic recursive optimal control problem in which the cost functional is described by the solution of a backward stochastic differential equation driven by G-Brownian motion. Under standard assumptions, we establish the dynamic programming principle and the related fully nonlinear HJB equation in the framework of G-expectation. Finally, we show that the value function is the viscosity solution of the obtained HJB equation.

A note on pricing of contingent claims under G-expectation

In this paper, we study the pricing of contingent claims under G-expectation. In order to accomodate volatility uncertainty, the price of the risky security is supposed to governed by a general linear stochastic differential equation (SDE) driven by G-Brownian motion. Utilizing the recently developed results of Backward SDE driven by G-Brownian motion, we obtain the superhedging and suberhedging prices of a given contingent claim. Explicit results in the Markovian case are also derived.

A stochastic recursive optimal control problem under the G-expectation framework

In this paper, we study a stochastic recursive optimal control problem in which the objective functional is described by the solution of a backward stochastic differential equation driven by G-Brownian motion. Under standard assumptions, we establish the dynamic programming principle and the related Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation in the framework of G-expectation. Finally, we show that the value function is the viscosity solution of the obtained HJB equation.

Ambiguous volatility and asset pricing in continuous time

This paper formulates a model of utility for a continuous time framework that captures the decision-maker's concern with ambiguity about both volatility and drift. Corresponding extensions of some basic results in asset pricing theory are presented. First, we derive arbitrage-free pricing rules based on hedging arguments. Ambiguous volatility implies market incompleteness that rules out perfect hedging. Consequently, hedging arguments determine prices only up to intervals. However, sharper predictions can be obtained by assuming preference maximization and equilibrium. Thus we apply the model of utility to a representative agent endowment economy to study equilibrium asset returns. A version of the C-CAPM is derived and the effects of ambiguous volatility are described.

Ambiguous Volatility, Possibility and Utility in Continuous Time

This paper formulates a model of utility for a continuous time framework that captures the decision-maker's concern with ambiguity about both the drift and volatility of the driving process. At a technical level, the analysis requires a significant departure from existing continuous time modeling because it cannot be done within a probability space framework. This is because ambiguity about volatility leads invariably to a set of nonequivalent priors, that is, to priors that disagree about which scenarios are possible.

An optimal control problem for functional forward-backward stochastic systems and related Path-dependent HJB equations

In this paper, we study a stochastic recursive optimal control problem in which the system is governed by a functional forward-backward stochastic differential equation. Under standard assumptions, we establish the dynamic programming principle and the related Path-dependent Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation in the framework of functional Itô calculus. The stochastic verification theorem for the smooth case is proved. Finally, we show that the value function is the viscosity solution of the Path-dependent HJB equation.

Path-dependent Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equations related to controlled stochastic functional differential systems

In this paper, a stochastic optimal control problem is investigated in which the system is governed by a stochastic functional differential equation. In the framework of functional Itô calculus, we build the dynamic programming principle and the related Path-dependent Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation. We prove that the value function is the viscosity solution of the Path-dependent HJB equation.

Reflected Backward Stochastic Difference Equations and Optimal Stopping Problems under g-expectation

In this paper, we study reflected backward stochastic difference equations (RBSDEs for short) with finitely many states in discrete time. The general existence and uniqueness result, as well as comparison theorems for the solutions, are established under mild assumptions. The connections between RBSDEs and optimal stopping problems are also given. Then we apply the obtained results to explore optimal stopping problems under $g$-expectation. Finally, we study the pricing of American contingent claims in our context.

Reflected Backward Stochastic Difference Equations with Finite State and their applications

In this paper, we first establish the reflected backward stochastic difference equations with finite state (FS-RBSDEs for short). Then we explore the Existence and Uniqueness Theorem as well as the Comparison Theorem by "one step" method. The connections between FS-RBSDEs and optimal stopping time problems are investigated and we also show that the optimal stopping problems with multiple priors under Knightian uncertainty is a special case of our FS-RBSDEs. As a byproduct we develop the general theory of g-martingales in discrete time with finite state including Doob-Mayer Decomposition Theorem and Optional Sampling Theorem. Finally, we consider the pricing models of American Option in both complete and incomplete markets.

Solutions for Functional Fully Coupled Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential Equations

In this paper, we study a functional fully coupled forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs). Under a new type of integral Lipschitz and monotonicity conditions, the existence and uniqueness of solutions for functional fully coupled FBSDEs is proved. We also investigate the relationship between the solution of functional fully coupled FBSDE and the classical solution of the path-dependent partial differential equation (P-PDE). When the solution of the P-PDE has some smooth and regular properties, we solve the related functional fully coupled FBSDE and prove the P-PDE has a unique solution.

Stochastic differential game of functional forward-backward stochastic system and related path-dependent HJBI equation

This paper is devoted to a stochastic differential game of functional forward-backward stochastic differential equation (FBSDE, for short). The associated upper and lower value functions of the stochastic differential game are defined by controlled functional backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs, for short). Applying the Girsanov transformation method introduced by Buckdahn and Li [1], the upper and the lower value functions are shown to be deterministic. We also generalize the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman-Isaacs (HJBI, for short) equations to the path-dependent ones. By establishing the dynamic programming principal (DPP, for short), the upper and the lower value functions are shown to be the viscosity solutions of the corresponding upper and the lower path-dependent HJBI equations, respectively.

A maximum principle for controlled time-symmetric forward-backward doubly stochastic differential equation with initial-terminal sate constraints

In this paper, we study the optimal control problem of a controlled time-symmetric forward-backward doubly stochastic differential equation with initial-terminal sate constraints. Applying the terminal perturbation method and Ekeland's variation principle, a necessary condition of the stochastic optimal control, i.e., stochastic maximum principle is derived. Applications to backward doubly stochastic linear-quadratic control models are investigated.

Backward Stochastic Differential Equations Driven by G-Brownian Motion

In this paper, we study backward stochastic differential equations driven by a G-Brownian motion. The solution of such new type of BSDE is a triple (Y,Z,K) where K is a decreasing G-martingale. Under a Lipschitz condition for generator f and g in Y and Z. The existence and uniqueness of the solution (Y,Z,K) is proved. Although the methods used in the proof and the related estimates are quite different from the classical proof for BSDEs, stochastic calculus in G-framework plays a central role.

Non-Markovian Fully Coupled Forward-Backward Stochastic Systems and Classical Solutions of Path-dependent PDEs

This paper explores the relationship between non-Markovian fully coupled forward-backward stochastic systems and path-dependent PDEs. The definition of classical solution for the path-dependent PDE is given within the framework of functional Itô calculus. Under mild hypotheses, we prove that the forward-backward stochastic system provides the unique classical solution to the path-dependent PDE.

Sublinear Expectations and Martingales in discrete time

We give a theory of sublinear expectations and martingales in discrete time. Without assuming the existence of a dominating probability measure, we derive the extensions of classical results on uniform integrability, optional stopping of martingales, and martingale convergence. We also give a theory of BSDEs in the context of sublinear expectations and a finite-state space, including general existence and comparison results.
