Analysis of three-body charmed B meson decays under the factorization-assisted topological-amplitude approach

We analyze the quasi-two-body charmed $B$ decays $B^{+,0}_{(s)} \to D_{(s)}^* P_2 \to D_{(s)} P_1 P_2$ with $P_{1,2}$ as a pion or kaon. The intermediate processes $B_{(s)} \to D_{(s)}^* P_2 $ are calculated with the factorization-assisted topological-amplitude approach and the resonant effects are calculated with the Breit-Wigner formalism. Taking all p-wave resonance states $ \bar D_{(s)}^*$ into consideration, we present the related branching fractions, calculate the Breit-Wigner-Tail effects, and investigate the flavor $SU(3)$ breaking effects. Most of our branching fractions are consistent with the perturbative QCD approach's predictions as well as the current experimental data. With more precision calculation of the intermediate two body charmed B meson decays, our quasi-two-body B decays calculation has significantly less theoretical uncertainty than the perturbative QCD approach. Many of those channels without any experimental data will be confronted with the future more accurate experiment measurements. Our results of the Breit-Wigner-tail effects also agree with the experimental very well. In $B^0$ decays this effect can reach approximately to $5\%$. It is also found that the Breit-Wigner-tail effects are not sensitive to the widths of their corresponding resonances. The flavor $SU(3)$ symmetry breaking effect is also investigated.

Weak Decays of Doubly Heavy Baryons: ${\cal B}_{cc}\to {\cal B} D^{(*)}$

The discovery of $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ has inspired new interest in studying doubly heavy baryons. In this study, the weak decays of a doubly charmed baryon ${\cal B}_{cc}$ to a light baryon ${\cal B}$ and a charm meson $D^{(*)}$ (either a pseudoscalar or a vector one) are calculated. Following our previous work, we calculate the short distance contributions under the factorization hypothesis, whereas the long distance contributions are modeled as the final state interactions which are calculated with the one particle exchange model. We find that the ${\cal B}_{cc}\to {\cal B} D^{*}$ decays' branching ratios are obviously larger, as they receive contributions of more polarization states. Among the decays that we investigate, the following have the largest branching fractions: ${\cal BR}(Ξ_{cc}^{++}\rightarrowΣ^{+}D^{*+}) \in [0.46\%, 3.33\%]$ estimated with $τ_{Ξ_{cc}^{++}}=256$ fs; ${\cal BR}(Ξ_{cc}^{+}\rightarrowΛD^{*+}) \in [0.38\%, 2.63\%]$ and ${\cal BR}(Ξ_{cc}^{+}\rightarrowΣ^{0} D^{*+}) \in [0.45\%, 3.16\%]$ with $τ_{Ξ_{cc}^+}=45$ fs; and ${\cal BR}(Ω_{cc}^{+}\rightarrowΞ^{0} D^{*+}) \in [0.27\%, 1.03\%]$, ${\cal BR}(Ω_{cc}^{+}\rightarrowΞ^{0} D^{+}) \in [0.07\%, 0.44\%]$ and ${\cal BR}(Ω_{cc}^{+}\rightarrowΣ^{0} D^{*+}) \in [0.06\%, 0.45\%]$ with $τ_{Ω_{cc}^+}=75$ fs. By comparing the decay widths of pure color commensurate channels with those of pure bow-tie ones, we find that the bow-tie mechanism plays an important role in charm decays.

A comprehensive analysis of weak transition form factors for doubly heavy baryons in the light front approach

The transition form factors for doubly heavy baryons into a spin-$1/2$ or spin-$3/2$ ground-state baryon induced by both the charged current and the flavor changing neutral current are systematically studied within the light-front quark model. In the transition the two spectator quarks have two spin configurations and both are considered in this calculation. We use an updated vertex functions, and inspired by the flavor SU(3) symmetry, we also provide a new approach to derive the flavor-spin factors. With the obtained transition form factors, we perform a phenomenological study of the corresponding semi-leptonic decays of doubly heavy baryons induced by the $c\to d/s \ell^+ν$, $b\to c/u\ell^-\bar ν$ and $b\to d/s\ell^+\ell^-$. Results for partial decay widths, branching ratios and the polarization ratios $Γ_{L}/Γ_{T}$s are given. We find that most branching ratios for the semi-leptonic decays induced by the $c\to d,s$ transitions are at the order of $10^{-3}\sim10^{-2}$, which might be useful for the search of other doubly-heavy baryons. Uncertainties in form factors, the flavor SU(3) symmetry and sources of symmetry breaking effects are discussed. We find that the SU(3) symmetry breaking effects could be sizable in charmed baryon decays while in the bottomed case, the SU(3) symmetry breaking effects are less significant. Our results can be examined at the experimental facilities in the future.

The semi-leptonic form factors of $Λ_{b}\toΛ_{c}$ and $Ξ_{b}\toΞ_{c}$ in QCD sum rules

In this work, the full leading order results of the form factors for $Ξ_{b}\toΞ_{c}$ and $Λ_{b}\toΛ_{c}$ are obtained in QCD sum rules. Contributions from up to dim-5 have been considered. For completeness, we also study the two-point correlation function to obtain the pole residues of $Ξ_{Q}$ and $Λ_{Q}$, and higher accuracy is achieved. For the three-point correlation function, since stable Borel regions can not be found, about $20\%$ uncertainties are introduced for the form factors of $Ξ_{b}\toΞ_{c}$ and $Λ_{b}\toΛ_{c}$. Our results for the form factors are consistent with those of the Lattice QCD within errors.

The SVZ sum rules and the heavy quark limit for $Λ_{Q}$

In this work, we evaluate the accuracy of the leading order results in Shifman-Vainshtein-Zakharov (SVZ) sum rules and the leading power results in the heavy quark limit for the mass of $Λ_{Q}$. Up to dim-5 condensate contributions are considered. By comparing with the experimental results, we find that the leading order results in SVZ sum rules can reach about 5\% accuracy both for $Λ_{b}$ and $Λ_{c}$, and it seems that better results can be obtained from the sum rules of the heavy quark limit both for $Λ_{b}$ and $Λ_{c}$. We re-check that the SVZ sum rules in the heavy quark limit coincide with the HQET sum rules. As a byproduct, we also have an exploratory discussion on the $ud$ diquark in $Λ_{Q}$.

$B\to DK^*_{0,2}$ Decays: PQCD analysis to determine CP violation phase angle $γ$

$B^\pm \to (D^0, \bar D^0, D_{CP})K^{*\pm}_{0,2}$ decays are helpful in determining the CP violation angle $γ$, and we analyze these decay processes within the perturbative QCD approach based on $k_T$ factorization. We found that the branching ratio of $B^-\to D^0 K^{*-}_0$ can reach the order of $10^{-4}$, due to the enhancement of nonfactorizable contributions in color-suppressed $D^0$-emission, while the branching ratio of $B^-\to \bar D^0 K^{*-}_0$ is of the order $10^{-5}$. The ratio of decay amplitudes is about 3 times larger than the one in the channel $B^\pm\to D K^\pm$. Large branching ratios provide a good opportunity to observe $ B^\pm \to D K^{*\pm}_2$ on the ongoing and forthcoming experimental facilities and consequently these channels may be of valuable avail in reducing the errors in the CP violation phase angle $γ$. We also explore the possible time-dependent CP asymmetries of $B_s$ decay into a scalar meson to determine the phase angle $γ$.

Branching ratios, forward-backward asymmetries and angular distributions of $B\to K_2^*l^+l^-$ in the standard model and new physics scenarios

We analyze the $B\to K_2^*(\to Kπ)l^+l^-$ (with $l=e,μ,τ$) decay in the standard model and two new physics scenarios: vector-like quark model and family non-universal $Z'$ model. We derive its differential angular distributions, using the recently calculated form factors in the perturbative QCD approach. Branching ratios, polarizations, forward-backward asymmetries and transversity amplitudes are predicted, from which we find a promising prospective to observe this channel on the future experiment. We also update the constraints on effective Wilson coefficients and/or free parameters in these two new physics scenarios by making use of the experimental data of $B\to K^*l^+l^-$ and $b\to sl^+l^-$. Their impact on $B\to K_2^*l^+l^-$ is subsequently explored and in particular the zero-crossing point for the forward-backward asymmetry in these new physics scenarios can sizably deviate from the SM scenario. In addition we also generalize the analysis to a similar mode $B_s\to f_2'(1525)(\to K^+K^-) l^+l^-$.

Rare B decays and Tevatron top-pair asymmetry

The recent Tevatron result on the top quark forward-backward asymmetry, which deviates from its standard model prediction by 3.4$σ$, has prompted many authors to build new models to account for this anomaly. Among the various proposals, we find that those mechanisms which produce $t\bar t$ via $t$- or $u$-channel can have a strong correlation to the rare B decays. We demonstrate this link by studying a model with a new charged gauge boson, $W'$. In terms of the current measurements on $B\to πK$ decays, we conclude that the branching ratio for $B^-\to π^- \bar K^0$ is affected most by the new effects. Furthermore, using the world average branching ratio for the exclusive B decays at $2σ$ level, we discuss the allowed values for the new parameters. Finally, we point out that the influence of the new physics effects on the direct CP asymmetry in B decays is insignificant.

Study of $\bar B^0 \to D^0 μ^+μ^-$ Decay in Perturbative QCD Approach

Within the perturbative QCD approach and ignoring the contributions of long distance and subleading penguin loops, we investigate $\bar B^0 \to D^0 μ^+μ^-$ decay in the large recoiling kinematic region in the Standard Model. At the tree level, $\bar B^0$ decays to $D^0$ by exchanging a $W$ boson accompanied by a virtual photon emission from the valence quarks of $\bar B^0$ and $D^0$ meson, then the virtual photon decays to the lepton pair. Numerically, we find that the branching ratio decreases rapidly as the $q^2$ increases, and the branching ratio of $ \bar B^0\to D^0μ^+μ^-$ is $(9.7_{-3.2}^{+4.2})\times 10^{-6}$ in the region $q^2 \in [1,5] \mathrm{GeV}^2$. The order of the branching ratio shows a possibility to study this interesting channel in the current $B$ factories and the Large Hadron Collider. The precise experimental data will help us to test the factorization approach and the QCD theory, in general.

Study of $B\to K^{(*)} \ell^+\ell^-$ Decays in the Family Non-universal $Z'$ Models

In a combined investigation of the $B\to K^{(*)}\ell^+\ell^-$ decays, constraints on the related couplings in family non-universal $Z^{\prime}$ models are derived. We find that within the allowed parameter space, the recently observed forward-backward asymmetry in the $B\to K^*\ell^+\ell^-$ decay can be explained, by flipping the signs of the Wilson coefficients $C_9^{\rm eff}$ and $C_{10}$. With the obtained constraints, we also calculate the branching ratio of the $B_s\toμ^+μ^-$ decay. The upper bound of our prediction is near the upper bound given by CDF Collaboration recently.

Charge and CP asymmetries of $B_q$ meson in unparticle physics

Recently the DØ Collaboration reported an observation of like-sign charge asymmetry (CA), which is about $3.2 σ$ deviation from the standard model (SM) prediction. Inspired by the observation we investigate the scalar unparticle effects, under the color charge of $SU(3)_c$ symmetry, in the CP violation in neutral B meson oscillations as well as the dispersive and absorptive parts of $\bar B_q\leftrightarrow B_q$ transition, which can be related to the CA directly. In order to illustrate the peculiar properties of unparticle, our analysis is carried out in two scenarios for the right-handed section: (I) $λ_R=λ_L$ and $U_D^R=U_D^L$, where $λ_{L,R}$ and $U_D^{L,R}$ are the couplings and flavor mixing matrix of left- and right-handed section, respectively; (II) $λ_R >> λ_L$ and $U_D^R$ is completely a free parameter. In scenario I we found that the wrong- and like-sign CA cannot be changed significantly for a SM-like CP violating source because of the strong constraint of $Δm_{B_d}$. Contrarily, in scenario II we can figure out the parameter space in which the CA can be enhanced to the value observed by DØ with the constraint of $Δm_{B_s}$ due to the enhancement of $Γ^s_{12}$. In the parameter space we obtained, the correlation between $ΔΓ^s$ and $ϕ_s$ is consistent with the current CDF and DØ results.

Decays of $B$ meson to two charmed mesons

The factorization theorem in Decays of $B_{(s)}$ mesons to two charmed mesons (both pseudoscalar and vector) can still be proved in the leading order in $m_D/m_B$ and $Λ_{\rm{QCD}}/m_D$ expansion. Working in the perturbative QCD approach, we find that the factorizable emission diagrams are dominant. Most of branching ratios we compute agree with the experimental data well, which means that the factorization theorem seems to be reliable in predicting branching ratios for these decays. In the decays of a $B$ meson to two vector charmed mesons, the transverse polarization states contribute $40%-50%$ both in the processes with an external W emission and in the pure annihilation decays. This is in agreement with the present experimental data. We also calculate the CP asymmetry parameters. The results show that the direct CP asymmetries are very small. Thus observation of any large direct CP asymmetry will be a signal for new physics. The mixing induced CP asymmetry in the neutral modes is large. This is also in agreement with the current experimental measurements. They can give a cross check of the $\sin 2β$ measurement from other channels.
