New Physics in $b\to s\ell\ell$ anomalies and its implications for the complementary neutral current decays

We study the Standard Model and the new physics predictions for the lepton-flavour-universality violating (LFUV) ratios in various $b\to s \ell^+\ell^-$ channels with scalar, pseudoscalar, vector, axial-vector, and $Λ$ baryon final states, considering both unpolarized and polarized final state hadrons. In order to formulate physical observables, we use the model independent effective Hamiltonian approach and employ the helicity formalism. We provide the explicit expressions of the helicity amplitudes in terms of the Wilson coefficients and the hadronic form factors by using the same kinematical configuration and polarization conventions for all the decay channels. We perform the numerical analysis with new physics scenarios selected from the recent global fits to $b\to s\ell^+\ell^-$ data, having specific new physics model interpretations. We find that some of the LFUV ratios for these complementary channels in different kinematical regions have high sensitivity to new physics and the future measurements of them in Belle II and LHCb experiments, along with testing new physics/LFUV, can help to distinguish among some of the different new physics possibilities.

Unbinned Angular Analysis of $B\to D^*(Dπ)\ell ν_\ell$ and $C_{V_R}$

A sensitivity study of the unbinned angular analysis of the $B\to D^*(Dπ)\ell ν_\ell$ decay is presented. In the analysis, it is shown that the Wilson coefficient of the right-handed vector current, $C_{V_R}$, can be measured to precision of 2-4$\%$ using either the full set of normalised angular observables or the forward-backward asymmetry $A_{FB}$ of the charged lepton in 10 $w$ bins. Such angular measurements are independent of the $V_{cb}$ puzzle.

QCD calculations of radiative heavy meson decays with subleading power corrections

We revisit QCD calculations of radiative heavy meson decay form factors by including the subleading power corrections from the twist-two photon distribution amplitude at next-to-leading-order in $α_s$ with the method of the light-cone sum rules (LCSR). The desired hard-collinear factorization formula for the vacuum-to-photon correlation function with the interpolating currents for two heavy mesons is constructed with the operator-product-expansion technique in the presence of evanescent operators. Applying the background field approach, the higher twist corrections from both the two-particle and three-particle photon distribution amplitudes are further computed in the LCSR framework at leading-order in QCD, up to the twist-four accuracy. Combining the leading power "point-like" photon contribution at tree level and the subleading power resolved photon corrections from the newly derived LCSR, we update theory predictions for the nonperturbative couplings describing the electromagnetic decay processes of the heavy mesons $H^{\ast \, \pm} \to H^{\pm} \, γ$, $H^{\ast \, 0} \to H^{0} \, γ$, $H_s^{\ast \, \pm} \to H_s^{\pm} \, γ$ (with $H=D, \, B$). Furthermore, we perform an exploratory comparisons of our sum rule computations of the heavy-meson magnetic couplings with the previous determinations based upon different QCD approaches and phenomenological models.

Precision calculations of $B \to V$ form factors in QCD

Applying the vacuum-to-$B$-meson correlation functions with an interpolating current for the light vector meson we construct the light-cone sum rules (LCSR) for the "effective" form factors $ξ_{\parallel}(n \cdot p)$, $ξ_{\perp}(n \cdot p)$, $Ξ_{\parallel}(τ, n \cdot p)$ and $Ξ_{\perp}(τ, n \cdot p)$, defined by the corresponding hadronic matrix elements in soft-collinear effective theory (SCET), entering the leading-power factorization formulae for QCD form factors responsible for $B \to V \ell \bar ν_{\ell}$ and $B \to V \ell \bar \ell$ decays at large hadronic recoil at next-to-leading-order in QCD. The light-quark mass effect for the local SCET form factors $ξ_{\parallel}(n \cdot p)$ and $ξ_{\perp}(n \cdot p)$ is also computed from the LCSR method with the $B$-meson light-cone distribution amplitude $ϕ_B^{+}(ω, μ)$ at ${\cal O}(α_s)$. Furthermore, the subleading power corrections to $B \to V$ form factors from the higher-twist $B$-meson light-cone distribution amplitudes are also computed with the same method at tree level up to the twist-six accuracy. Having at our disposal the LCSR predictions for $B \to V$ form factors, we further perform new determinations of the CKM matrix element $|V_{ub}|$ from the semileptonic $B \to ρ\, \ell \, \bar ν_{\ell}$ and $B \to ω\, \ell \, \bar ν_{\ell}$ decays, and predict the normalized differential branching fractions and the $q^2$-binned $K^{\ast}$ longitudinal polarization fractions of the exclusive rare $B \to K^{\ast} \, ν_{\ell} \, \bar ν_{\ell}$ decays.

Test Flavor SU(3) symmetry in Exclusive $Λ_c$ decays

Flavor SU(3) symmetry is a powerful tool to analyze charmed baryon decays, however its applicability remains to be experimentally validated. Since there is not much data on $Ξ_c$ decays, various exclusive $Λ_c$ decays especially the ones into a neutron state are essential for the test of flavor symmetry. These decay modes are also helpful to investigate final state interactions in charmed baryon decays. In this work, we discuss the explicit roles of $Λ_c$ decays into a neutron in testing the flavor symmetry and exploring final state interactions. The involved decay modes include semileptonic decays, two-body and three-body non-leptonic decays, but all of them have not been experimentally observed to date.

$S$-wave resonance contributions to the $B^0_{(s)}\to J/ψπ^+π^-$ and $B_s\toπ^+π^-μ^+μ^-$ decays

We study $S$-wave resonance contributions to the $B^0_{(s)}\to J/ψπ^+π^-$ and $B_s\toπ^+π^-\ell^+\ell^-$ decays in the perturbative QCD (PQCD) framework by introducing two-hadron distribution amplitudes for final states. The Breit-Wigner formula for the $f_0(500)$, $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1790)$ resonances and the Flatté model for the $f_0(980)$ resonance are adopted to parameterize the time-like scalar form factors in the two-pion distribution amplitudes, which include both resonant and nonresonant contributions. The resultant branching fraction and differential branching fraction in the pion-pair invariant mass for each resonance channel are consistent with experimental data. The determined $S$-wave two-pion distribution amplitudes, containing the information of both resonant and nonresonant rescattering phases, can be employed to predict direct CP asymmetries of other three-body hadronic $B$ meson decays in various localized regions of two-pion phase space.

Branching ratios and direct CP asymmetries in $D\to PV$ decays

We study the two-body hadronic $D\to PV$ decays, where $P$ ($V$) denotes a pseudoscalar (vector) meson, in the factorization-assisted topological-amplitude approach proposed in our previous work. This approach is based on the factorization of short-distance and long-distance dynamics into Wilson coefficients and hadronic matrix elements of four-fermion operators, respectively, with the latter being parametrized in terms of several nonperturbative quantities. We further take into account the $ρ$-$ω$ mixing effect, which improves the global fit to the branching ratios involving the $ρ^0$ and $ω$ mesons. Combining short-distance dynamics associated with penguin operators and the hadronic parameters determined from the global fit to branching ratios, we predict direct $CP$ asymmetries. In particular, the direct $CP$ asymmetries in the $D^0\to K^0\overline{K}^{*0},~\overline{K}^0K^{*0}$, $D^+\toπ^+ρ^0$, and $D_s^+\to K^+ω,~K^+ϕ$ decays are found to be of ${\cal O}(10^{-3})$, which can be observed at the LHCb or future Belle II experiment. We also predict the $CP$ asymmetry observables of some neutral $D$ meson decays.

Direct CP asymmetries of three-body $B$ decays in perturbative QCD

We propose a theoretical framework for analyzing three-body hadronic $B$ meson decays based on the perturbative QCD approach. The crucial nonperturbative input is a two-hadron distribution amplitude for final states, whose involved time-like form factor and rescattering phase are fit to relevant experimental data. Together with the short-distance strong phase from the $b$-quark decay kernel, we are able to make predictions for direct CP asymmetries in, for example, the $B^\pm \to π^+ π^- π^\pm$ and $π^+π^-K^\pm$ modes, which are consistent with the LHCb data in various localized regions of phase space. Applications of our formalism to other three-body hadronic and radiative $B$ meson decays are mentioned.

Perturbative QCD study of $B_s$ decays to a pseudoscalar meson and a tensor meson

We study two-body hadronic $B_s\to PT$ decays, with $P (T)$ being a light pseudoscalar (tensor) meson, in the perturbative QCD approach. The CP-averaged branching ratios and the direct CP asymmetries of the $ΔS=0$ modes are predicted, where $ΔS$ is the difference between the strange numbers of final and initial states. We also define and calculate experimental observables for the $ΔS=1$ modes under the $B_s^0-\bar{B}_s^0$ mixing, including CP averaged branching ratios, time-integrated CP asymmetries, and the CP observables $C_{f}$, $D_{f}$ and $S_{f}$. Results are compared to the $B_s\to PV$ ones in the literature, and to the $B\to PT$ ones, which indicate considerable U-spin symmetry breaking. Our work provides theoretical predictions for the $B_s\to PT$ decays for the first time, some of which will be potentially measurable at future experiments.

Photon Polarization in the b->s gamma processes in the Left-Right Symmetric Model

The circular-polarization of the photon in the radiative B decays is dominantly left-handed in the Standard Model (SM), but the right-handed polarization may be enhanced in some new physics models with right-handed currents, such as the Left-Right Symmetric Model (LRSM). In this article, we investigate how large this wrong polarization could be within the allowed parameter space of the LRSM. We show that in LRSM, the right-handed polarization of the photon in the $b\to sγ$ processes could be largely enhanced by the $W_L-W_R$ mixing contributions because of the helicity flip on the internal top quark line of the penguin diagrams and the enhancement by the CKM factor $V_{ts}^R/V_{ts}^L$. We discuss the sensitivity of the proposed methods to determine the $b\to sγ$ photon polarization to the LRSM as well as their complementary role compared to the direct search of right-handed charged gauge bosons at LHC.

Semileptonic decays $B_c^+\to D^{(*)}_{(s)}(l^+ν,l^+l^-,ν\barν)$ in the perturbative QCD approach

In this paper we study the semileptonic decays of $B_c^+\to D^{(*)}_{(s)}(l^+ν_l,l^+l^-,ν\barν)$ (here $l$ stands for $e$, $μ$, or $τ$). After evaluating the $B_c^+ \to (D_{(s)},D^*_{(s)})$ transition form factors $F_{0,+,T}(q^2)$ and $V(q^2), A_{0,1,2}(q^2), T_{1,2,3}(q^2)$ by employing the perturbative QCD factorization approach, we calculate the branching ratios for all these semileptonic decays. Our predictions for the values of the $B_c^+ \to D_{(s)}$ and $B_c^+ \to D^*_{(s)}$ transition form factors are consistent with those obtained by using other methods. The branching ratios of the decay modes with $\barνν$ are almost an order of magnitude larger than the corresponding decays with $l^+l^-$ after the summation over the three neutrino generations. The branching ratios for the decays with $b\to d$ transitions are much smaller than those decays with the $b\to s$ transitions, due to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa suppression. We define ratios $R_D$ and $R_{D^*}$ for the branching ratios with the $τ$ lepton versus $μ$, $e$ lepton final states to cancel the uncertainties of the form factors, which could possibly be tested in the near future.

The NLO twist-3 contributions to $B \to π$ form factors in $k_{T}$ factorization

In this paper, we calculate the next-to-leading-order (NLO) twist-3 contribution to the form factors of $B \to π$ transitions by employing the $k_{T}$ factorization theorem. All the infrared divergences regulated by the logarithms $\ln(k_{iT}^{2})$ cancel between those from the quark diagrams and from the effective diagrams for the initial $B$ meson wave function and the final pion meson wave function. An infrared finite NLO hard kernel is therefore obtained, which confirms the application of the $k_{T}$ factorization theorem to $B$ meson semileptonic decays at twist-3 level. From our analytical and numerical evaluations, we find that the NLO twist-3 contributions to the form factors $f^{+,0}(q^2)$ of $B \to π$ transition are similar in size, but have an opposite sign with the NLO twist-2 contribution, which leads to a large cancelation between these two NLO parts. For the case of $f^+(0)$, for example, the $24\%$ NLO twist-2 enhancement to the full LO prediction is largely canceled by the negative ( about $-17\%$ ) NLO twist-3 contribution, leaving a small and stable $7\%$ enhancement to the full LO prediction in the whole range of $0\leq q^2\leq 12$ GeV$^2$. At the full NLO level, the perturbative QCD prediction is $F^{B \to π}(0)=0.269^{+0.054}_{-0.050}$. We also studied the possible effects on the pQCD predictions when different sets of the B meson and pion distribution amplitudes are used in the numerical evaluation.

Constraints on the R-parity violating couplings using the newest measurement of the decay $B_s^0 \rightarrow μ^+ μ^-$

Recently, the LHCb collaboration reported the first evidence for the decay $B_s^0 \rightarrow μ^+ μ^-$. A branching ratio of $\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \rightarrow μ^+ μ^-) = (3.2^{+1.5}_{-1.2}) \times 10^{-9}$ is given. Using the newest data, and together with the most precise predictions of the Standard Model contributions to the decay, we derive the constraints on the combinations of the R-parity violating parameters. Our results are several orders of magnitudes stronger than the constraints in the previous literature. We also update the constraints on the relevant parameters using the upper limit of $\mathcal{B}(B_d^0 \rightarrow μ^+ μ^-)$.

Hunting for a scalar glueball in exclusive B decays

Using flavor SU(3) symmetry for the light quarks validated by the available experimental data, we propose an intuitive way to hunt for a scalar glueball in B decays. In the presence of mixing between the glueball and ordinary scalar mesons, we explore the extraction of the mixing parameters. In particular, we discuss the implication from the recently available experimental data and show the sensitivities of B decays as a probe to the scalar structures. The future Super KEKB factory would allow access to establishing the mixing pattern among the scalars, and possibly allow one to disentangle the long-standing puzzle concerning the existence and mixings of the scalar glueball predicted by QCD.

Pure annihilation type $ D\to PP(V)$ decays in the perturbative QCD approach

The annihilation type diagrams are difficult to calculate in any kind of models or method. Encouraged by the the successful calculation of pure annihilation type B decays in the perturbative QCD factorization approach, we calculate the pure annihilation type $D\to PP(V)$ decays in the perturbative QCD approach based on the $k_T$ factorization. Although the expansion parameter $1/m_D$ is not very small, our leading order numerical results agree with the existing experiment data for most channels. We expect the more accurate observation from experiments, which can help us learn about the dynamics of $D$ meson weak decays.

Analysis of $B\to K^*_J (\to K π) μ^+μ^-$ in the higher kaon resonance region

We study the resonant contributions in the process $\bar{B}^0\to K^- π^+μ^+μ^-$ with the $K^-π^+$ invariant mass square $m_{Kπ}^2\in [1, 5] {\rm GeV}^2$. Width effects of the involved strange mesons, $K^*(1410), K_0^*(1430), K_2^*(1430), K^*(1680), K_3^*(1780)$ and $K_4^*(2045)$, are incorporated. In terms of the helicity amplitudes, we derive a compact form for the full angular distributions, through which the branching ratios, forward-backward asymmetries and polarizations are attained. We propose that the uncertainties in the $B\to K^*_J$ form factors can be pinned down by the measurements of a set of SU(3)-related processes. Using results from the large energy limit, we derive the dependence of branching fractions on the $m_{Kπ}$, and find that the $K^*_2(1430)$ resonance has a clear signature, in particular, in the transverse polarizations.

Determination of $f_0-σ$ mixing angle through $B_s^0 \to J/Ψ~f_0(980)(σ)$ decays

We study $B_s^0 \to J/ψf_0(980)$ decays, the quark content of $f_0(980)$ and the mixing angle of $f_0(980)$ and $σ(600)$. We calculate not only the factorizable contribution in QCD facorization scheme but also the nonfactorizable hard spectator corrections in QCDF and pQCD approach. We get consistent result with the experimental data of $B_s^0 \to J/ψf_0(980)$ and predict the branching ratio of $B_s^0 \to J/ψσ$. We suggest two ways to determine $f_0-σ$ mixing angle $θ$. Using the experimental measured branching ratio of $B_s^0 \to J/ψf_0(980) $, we can get the $f_0-σ$ mixing angle $θ$ with some theoretical uncertainties. We suggest another way to determine $f_0-σ$ mixing angle $θ$ using both of experimental measured decay branching ratios $B_s^0 \to J/ψf_0(980) (σ)$ to avoid theoretical uncertainties.

Branching ratios, forward-backward asymmetries and angular distributions of $B\to K_2^*l^+l^-$ in the standard model and new physics scenarios

We analyze the $B\to K_2^*(\to Kπ)l^+l^-$ (with $l=e,μ,τ$) decay in the standard model and two new physics scenarios: vector-like quark model and family non-universal $Z'$ model. We derive its differential angular distributions, using the recently calculated form factors in the perturbative QCD approach. Branching ratios, polarizations, forward-backward asymmetries and transversity amplitudes are predicted, from which we find a promising prospective to observe this channel on the future experiment. We also update the constraints on effective Wilson coefficients and/or free parameters in these two new physics scenarios by making use of the experimental data of $B\to K^*l^+l^-$ and $b\to sl^+l^-$. Their impact on $B\to K_2^*l^+l^-$ is subsequently explored and in particular the zero-crossing point for the forward-backward asymmetry in these new physics scenarios can sizably deviate from the SM scenario. In addition we also generalize the analysis to a similar mode $B_s\to f_2'(1525)(\to K^+K^-) l^+l^-$.

Nonleptonic two-body decays of charmed mesons

Nonleptonic decays of charmed mesons into two pseudoscalar mesons or one pseudoscalar meson and one vector meson are studied on the basis of a generalized factorization method considering the resonance effects in the pole model for the annihilation contributions. Large strong phases between different topological diagrams are considered in this work, simply taking the phase in the coefficients $a_i$. We find that the annihilation-type contributions calculated in the pole model are large in both of the $PP$ and $PV$ modes, which make our numerical results agree with the experimental data better than those previous calculations.

Study of $B\to K^{(*)} \ell^+\ell^-$ Decays in the Family Non-universal $Z'$ Models

In a combined investigation of the $B\to K^{(*)}\ell^+\ell^-$ decays, constraints on the related couplings in family non-universal $Z^{\prime}$ models are derived. We find that within the allowed parameter space, the recently observed forward-backward asymmetry in the $B\to K^*\ell^+\ell^-$ decay can be explained, by flipping the signs of the Wilson coefficients $C_9^{\rm eff}$ and $C_{10}$. With the obtained constraints, we also calculate the branching ratio of the $B_s\toμ^+μ^-$ decay. The upper bound of our prediction is near the upper bound given by CDF Collaboration recently.

Decays of $B$ meson to two charmed mesons

The factorization theorem in Decays of $B_{(s)}$ mesons to two charmed mesons (both pseudoscalar and vector) can still be proved in the leading order in $m_D/m_B$ and $Λ_{\rm{QCD}}/m_D$ expansion. Working in the perturbative QCD approach, we find that the factorizable emission diagrams are dominant. Most of branching ratios we compute agree with the experimental data well, which means that the factorization theorem seems to be reliable in predicting branching ratios for these decays. In the decays of a $B$ meson to two vector charmed mesons, the transverse polarization states contribute $40%-50%$ both in the processes with an external W emission and in the pure annihilation decays. This is in agreement with the present experimental data. We also calculate the CP asymmetry parameters. The results show that the direct CP asymmetries are very small. Thus observation of any large direct CP asymmetry will be a signal for new physics. The mixing induced CP asymmetry in the neutral modes is large. This is also in agreement with the current experimental measurements. They can give a cross check of the $\sin 2β$ measurement from other channels.

Distinguishing two kinds of scalar mesons from heavy meson decays

In the SU(3) symmetry limit, semileptonic $D^+\to Sl^+ν$ and $B^-\to Sl^-\barν$ decays, with $S=a_0(980)$, $f_0(980)$ and $f_0(600)$, are found to obey different sum rules in the $\bar qq$ and the tetra-quark descriptions for scalar mesons. Thus these sum rules can distinguish the two scenarios for light scalar mesons model-independently. This method also applies to the $\bar B^0\to J/ψ(η_c) S$ decays. Two kinds of SU(3) symmetry breaking effects are found to be under control, which will not spoil our method. The branching fractions of the $D^+\to Sl^+ν$, $B^-\to Sl^-\barν$ and $\bar B^0\to J/ψ(η_c) S$ decays roughly have the order $10^{-4}$, $10^{-5}$ and $10^{-6}$, respectively. The ongoing BES-III and the forthcoming Super B experiments are able to measure these channels and accordingly to provide detailed information of the scalar meson inner structure.

Covariant Light-Front Approach for $B_c$ transition form factors

In the covariant light-front quark model, we investigate the form factors of $B_c$ decays into $D, D^*, D_s, D_s^*, η_c, J/ψ, B, B^*, B_s, B_s^*$ mesons. The form factors in the spacelike region $q^2<0$ are directly evaluated. To extrapolate the form factors to the full kinematic region, we fit the form factors by adopting a three-parameter form from the spacelike region. $b\to u,d,s$ transition form factors at maximally recoiling point ($q^2=0$) are smaller than $b\to c$ and $c\to d,s$ transition form factors, while the $b\to d,s,c$ form factors at zero recoiling point are close to each other. In the fitting procedure, we find the parameters for the form factors $A_2(B_c\to B^*)$ and $A_2(B_c\to B^*_s)$ strongly depend on the decay constants of $B^*$ and $B_s^*$ mesons. Fortunately, the semileptonic and nonleptonic $B_c$ decays are not sensitive to these form factors. With the form factors, we also investigate the branching fractions, polarizations of the semileptonic $B_c\to Mlν$ decays. Semileptonic $B_c\to (η_c,J/ψ)lν$ and $B_c\to (B_s,B_s^*)lν$ decays have much larger branching fractions than $B_c\to (D,D^*,B,B^*)lν$. In the three kinds of $B_c\to Vlν$ decays, contributions from the longitudinal polarized vector is comparable with those from the transversely polarized vector. These predictions will be tested at the ongoing and forthcoming hadron colliders.

Twist-3 distribution amplitudes of scalar mesons from QCD sum rules

We study the twist-3 distribution amplitudes for scalar mesons made up of two valence quarks based on QCD sum rules. By choosing the proper correlation functions, we derive the moments of the scalar mesons up to the first two order. Making use of these moments, we then calculate the first two Gegenbauer coefficients for twist-3 distribution amplitudes of scalar mesons. It is found that the second Gegenbauer coefficients of scalar density twist-3 distribution amplitudes for $K^{*}_0$ and $f_0$ mesons are quite close to that for $a_0$, which indicates that the SU(3) symmetry breaking effect is tiny here. However, this effect could not be neglected for the forth Gegenbauer coefficients of scalar twist-3 distribution amplitudes between $a_0$ and $f_0$. Besides, we also observe that the first two Gegenbauer coefficients corresponding to the tensor current twist-3 distribution amplitudes for all the $a_0$, $K^{*}_0$ and $f_0$ are very small. The renormalization group evolution of condensates, quark masses, decay constants and moments are considered in our calculations. As a byproduct, it is found that the masses for isospin I=1, ${1 \over 2}$ scalar mesons are around $1.27 \sim 1.41$ GeV and $1.44 \sim 1.56$ GeV respectively, while the mass for isospin state composed of $\bar{s} s$ is $1.62 \sim 1.73$ GeV.

$B^0 \to ϕϕ$ Decay in Perturbative QCD Approach

The rare decay $B^0 \to ϕϕ$ can occur only via penguin annihilation topology in the standard model. We calculate this channel in the perturbative QCD approach. The predicted branching ratio is very small at ($10^{-8}$). We also give the polarization fractions, which shows that the transverse polarization contribution is comparable to the longitudinal one, due to a big transverse contribution from factorizable diagrams. The small branching ratio in SM, makes it sensitive to any new physics contributions.

Branching ratio and CP violation of $B_{s}\to πK$ decays in the perturbative QCD approach

In the framework of perturbative QCD approach, we calculate the branching ratio and CP asymmetry for $B_{s}^0(\bar{B}_{s}) \to π^{\pm} K^\mp$ and $B_{s}(\bar{B}_{s})\to π^{0}\bar{K}^{0}(K^{0})$ decays. Besides the usual factorizable diagrams, both non-factorizable and annihilation type contributions are taken into account. We find that (a) the branching ratio of $B_{s}^0(\bar{B}_{s}) \to π^{\pm} K^\mp$ is about $(6-10) \times 10^{-6}$; $Br(B_{s}(\bar{B}_{s})\to π^{0}\bar{K}^{0}(K^{0}))$ about $ (1-3) \times 10^{-7}$; and (b) there are large CP asymmetries in the two processes, which can be tested in the near future LHC-b experiments at CERN and BTeV experiments at Fermilab.

Constraints on the CKM angle $α$ from the measured CP asymmetries and branching ratios of $B \to π^+ π^-, π^+ π^0$ and $K^0π^+$ decays

In this paper, we draw constraints on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) angle $α$ and the strong phase $δ$ from the experimental measurements of $\ssb$, the CP-violating asymmetries and branching ratios of $B \to π^+ π^-, π^+ π^0$ and $K^0 π^+$ decays. In the SM, the measured $\ssb$ leads to an upper limit on $α$: $α\leq 180^\circ-β$. Taking the weighted-average of the newest BaBar and Belle measurements of $\spp$ and $\app$ in $B^0 \to π^+π^-$ decay as the experimental input, we find the allowed range of angle $α$, $76^\circ \leq α\leq 135^\circ$ for $r=|P/T| =0.3 \pm 0.1 $. From the measured CP-averaged branching ratios of $B \to π^+ π^-, π^+ π^0$ and $K^0 π^+$ decays, we found an inequality, $\cosα \cosδ \geq 0.45$. The region of $70^\circ \leq α\leq 110^\circ$ is thus excluded by applying this inequality. The combined constraints on $α$ and $δ$ are $117^\circ \leq α\leq 135^\circ$ and $-160^\circ \leq δ\leq -132^\circ$ if we take $\spp=0.49 \pm 0.27$ and $\app=0.51 \pm 0.19$ as the experimental input. The new lower limit on the angle $α$ is dominated by the measured branching ratios considered in this paper, and is much stronger than those obtained before.

Technicolor corrections on $B_{s,d} \to γγ$ decays in QCD factorization

Within the framework of the Top-color-assisted Technicolor (TC2) model, we calculate the new physics contributions to the branching ratios $\calb(B_{s,d} \to γγ)$ and CP violating asymmetries $\rcpm(B_{s,d} \to γγ)$ in the QCD factorization based on the heavy-quark limit $m_b \gg Λ_{QCD}$. Using the considered parameter space, we find that (a) for both $B_s\to γγ$ and $B_d \to γγ$ decays, the new physics contribution can provide a factor of two to six enhancement to their branching ratios, (b) for the $B_s \to γγ$ decay, its direct CP violation is very small in both the SM and TC2 model, and (c) the CP violating asymmetry $\rcpm(B_d \to γγ)$ is around the ten percent level in both the SM and TC2 model, but the sign of CP asymmetry in the TC2 model is different from that in the SM.

Constraint on the CKM angle alpha from the experimental measurements of CP violation in B_d^0 --> pi^+ pi^- decay

In this paper, we study and try to find the constraint on the CKM angle alpha from the experimental measurements of CP violation in B_d^0 --> pi^+ pi^- decay, as reported very recently by BaBar and Belle Collaborations. After considering uncertainties of the data and the ratio r of penguin over tree amplitude, we found that strong constraint on both the CKM angle alpha and the strong phase delta can be obtained from the measured CP asymmetries S_{pi pi} and A_{pi pi}: (a) the ranges of 87 degrees <= alpha <= 131 degrees and 36 degrees <= delta <= 144 degrees are allowed by 1 sigma of the averaged data for r = 0.31; (b) for Belle's result alone, the limits on alpha and delta are 104 degrees <= alpha <= 139 degrees and 42 degrees <= delta <= 138 degrees for 0.32 <= r <= 0.41; and (c) the angle alpha larger than 90 degrees is preferred.

$B\to πρ$, $πω$ Decays in Perturbative QCD Approach

We calculate the branching ratios and CP asymmetries for $B^0 \to π^+ρ^-$, $B^0 \to ρ^+π^-$, $B^+ \to ρ^+π^0$, $B^+ \to π^+ρ^0$, $B^0 \to π^0ρ^0$, $B^+ \to π^+ω$ and $B^0 \to π^0ω$ decays, in a perturbative QCD approach. In this approach, we calculate non-factorizable and annihilation type contributions, in addition to the usual factorizable contributions. Our result is in agreement with the measured branching ratio of $B^0/\bar B^0 \to π^\pmρ^\mp$, $B^\pm \to π^\pmρ^0$, $π^\pm ω$ by CLEO and BABAR collaboration. We also predict large CP asymmetries in these decays. These channels are useful to determine the CKM angle $ϕ_2$.

Comments on QCD Corrections to $b \to s γ$ Decay

We find some errors in previous calculation of leading log QCD corrections to $b \to sγ$ decay, which include corrections from $m_{top}$ to $M_W$ in addition to corrections from $M_{W}$ to $m_b$. The inclusive decay rate is found to be enhanced more than previous calculations. At $m_t=170$GeV, the running from $m_{top}$ to $M_W$ results in 13\% enhancement, and for $m_t=250$GeV, 16\% is found.
