$\tildeν$ contributions to electron and muon EDM in an Inverse Seesaw Mechanism

A non-universal anomaly free $U(1)_{X}$ extension to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, consisting of four scalar doublets, four scalar singlets and additional quark and lepton singlets including right-handed and Majorana neutrinos, is used to determine the contributions to the electron and muon Electric Dipole Moment. The additional CP violation sources come from the lepton sector, where neutrino masses are explained by an Inverse Seesaw Mechanism and the CP violating phase of the PMNS matrix generates complex interactions that involves exotic neutrino and sneutrino mass eigenstates. Such contributions are studied at one and two-loop level by considering the associated Barr-Zee diagrams and their supersymmetric counterpart. At one-loop level, it is found that the Electric Dipole Moment fixes a relationship between chargino and sneutrino masses depending on which particles have a mass bellow $10^{6}$ GeV. At two loop level, contributions are comparable to the one-loop contributions but the integrals diverge in some cases, yielding additional restrictions such as no degenerate sneutrino masses and they should be heavier than chargino masses.

Dark matter in Inert Doublet Model with one scalar singlet and $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry

We study Dark Matter (DM) abundance in the framework of the extension of the Standard Model (SM) with an additional $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry. One complex singlet is included to break the $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry, meanwhile one of the doublets is considered inert to introduce a DM candidate. The stability of the DM candidate is analyzed with a continuous $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry as well as discrete $Z_2$ symmetry. We find allowed regions for the free model parameters which are in agreement with the most up-to-date experimental results reported by CMS and ATLAS collaborations, the upper limit on WIMP-nucleon cross section imposed by XENON1T collaboration and the upper limit on the production cross-section of a $Z^{\prime}$ gauge boson times the branching ratio of the $Z^{\prime}$ boson decaying into $\ell^-\ell^+$. We also obtain allowed regions for the DM candidate mass from the relic density reported by the PLANCK collaboration including light, intermediate and heavy masses; depending mainly on two parameters of the scalar potential, $λ_{2x}$ and $λ_{345}=λ_3+λ_4+2λ_5$. We find that trough $pp\rightarrow χχγ$ production, it may only be possible for a future hadron-hadron Circular Collider (FCC-hh) to be able to detect a DM candidate within the range of masses 10-60 GeV.

$\boldsymbol{SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}}$ models in view of the $750$ GeV diphoton signal

We analyze the recent diphoton signal reported by ATLAS and CMS collaborations in the context of the $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ anomaly free models, with a 750 GeV scalar candidate which can decay into two photons. These models may explain the 750GeV signal by means of one loop decays to $γγ$ through charged vector and Higgs bosons, as well as top-, bottom- and electron-like exotic particles that arise naturally from the condition of anomaly cancellations of the $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ models.

A predictive $331$ model with $A_{4}$ flavour symmetry

We propose a predictive model based on the $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ gauge group supplemented by the $A_{4}\otimes Z_{3}\otimes Z_{4}\otimes Z_{6}\otimes Z_{16}$ discrete group, which successfully describes the SM fermion mass and mixing pattern. The small active neutrino masses are generated via inverse seesaw mechanism with three very light Majorana neutrinos. The observed charged fermion mass hierarchy and quark mixing pattern are originated from the breaking of the $Z_{4}\otimes Z_{6}\otimes Z_{16}$ discrete group at very high scale. The obtained values for the physical observables for both quark and lepton sectors are in excellent agreement with the experimental data. The model predicts a vanishing leptonic Dirac CP violating phase as well as an effective Majorana neutrino mass parameter of neutrinoless double beta decay, with values $m_{ββ}=$ 2 and 48 meV for the normal and the inverted neutrino mass hierarchies, respectively.

Diphoton decay for a $750$ GeV scalar boson in an $U(1)_{X}$ model

In the context of a nonuniversal and anomaly free $U(1)_{X}$ extension of the standard model, we examine the decay of a $750$GeV scalar singlet state, $ξ_χ$, as a possible explanation of the observed diphoton excess announced by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations at CERN-LHC collider. One-loop decay to photons is allowed through three heavy singlet quarks and one charged Higgs boson into the loop. We obtain, for different width approximations and for masses of the exotic singlet quarks in the region $[900,\,3000]$ GeV, a production cross section $σ(pp\toξ_χ\toγγ)$ compatible with ATLAS and CMS collaborations data. We also include another scalar singlet, $σ$, as a dark matter candidate that may couple with the 750 GeV scalar at tree level with production cross sections in agreement with ATLAS and CMS.

Diphoton decay for a 750 GeV scalar boson in a $SU(6)\otimes U(1)_{X}$ model

We propose a new $SU(6)\otimes U(1)_{X}$ GUT model free from anomalies, with a 750 GeV scalar candidate which can decay into two photons, compatible with the recent diphoton signal reported by ATLAS and CMS collaborations. This model gives masses to all fermions and may explain the 750GeV signal through one loop decays to $γγ$ with charged vector and charged Higgs bosons, as well as up- and electron-like exotic particles that arise naturally from the condition of cancellation of anomalies of the $SU(6)\otimes U(1)_{X}$ group. We obtain, for different width approximations, allowed mass regions from 900 GeV to 3 TeV for the exotic up-like quark, in agreement with ATLAS and CMS collaborations data.

Fermion mass and mixing pattern in a minimal T7 flavor 331 model

We present a model based on the $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ gauge symmetry having an extra $T_{7}\otimes Z_{2}\otimes Z_{3}\otimes Z_{14} $ flavor group, which successfully describes the observed SM fermion mass and mixing pattern. In this framework, the light active neutrino masses arise via double seesaw mechanism and the observed charged fermion mass and quark mixing hierarchy is a consequence of the $Z_{2}\otimes Z_{3}\otimes Z_{14}$ symmetry breaking at very high energy. In our minimal $T_{7}$ flavor 331 model, the spectrum of neutrinos includes very light active neutrinos as well as heavy and very heavy sterile neutrinos. The model has in total 16 effective free parameters, which are fitted to reproduce the experimental values of the 18 physical observables in the quark and lepton sectors. The obtained physical observables for both quark and lepton sectors are compatible with their experimental values. The model predicts the effective Majorana neutrino mass parameter of neutrinoless double beta decay to be $% m_{ββ}=$ 3 and 40 meV for the normal and the inverted neutrino spectrum, respectively. Furthermore, our model features a vanishing leptonic Dirac CP violating phase.

Spin-independent interferences and spin-dependent interactions with scalar dark matter

We explore mechanisms of interferences under which the spin-independent interaction in the scattering of scalar dark matter with nucleus is suppressed. We offer a detailed derivation of the nuclear amplitudes based on the interactions with quarks in the framework of a nonuniversal $U(1)'$ extension of the standard model. By assuming a range of parameters compatible with collider searches, electroweak observables and dark matter abundance, we find scenarios for destructive interferences with and without isospin symmetry. The model reveals solutions with mutually interfering scalar particles, canceling the effective spin-independent coupling with only scalar interactions, which requires an extra Higgs boson with mass $M_{H}>125$ GeV. The model also possesses scenarios with only vector interactions through two neutral gauge bosons, $Z$ and $Z'$. Due to the nonuniversality of the $U(1)'$ symmetry, we distinguish two family structures of the quark sector with different numerical predictions. In one case, we obtain cross sections that pass all the Xenon-based detector experiments. In the other case, limits from LUX experiment enclose an exclusion region for dark matter between $9$ and $800$ GeV. We examine a third scenario with isospin-violating couplings where interferences between scalar and vector boson exchanges cancel the scattering. We provide solutions where interactions with Xenon-based detectors is suppressed for light dark matter, below $6$ GeV, while interactions with Germanium- and Silicon-based detectors exhibit solutions up to the regions of interest for positive signals reported by CoGeNT and CDMS-Si experiments, and compatible with the observed DM relic density for DM mass in the range $8.3-10$ GeV. Spin-dependent interactions become the dominant source of scattering around the interference regions, where Maxwellian speed distribution is considered.

$S_3$ discrete group as a source of the quark mass and mixing pattern in $331$ models

We propose a model based on the $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ gauge symmetry with an extra $S_{3}\otimes Z_{2}\otimes Z_{4}\otimes Z_{12}$ discrete group, which successfully accounts for the SM quark mass and mixing pattern. The observed hierarchy of the SM quark masses and quark mixing matrix elements arises from the $Z_{4}$ and $Z_{12}$ symmetries, which are broken at very high scale by the $SU(3)_{L}$ scalar singlets ($σ$,$ζ$) and $τ$, charged under these symmetries, respectively. The Cabbibo mixing arises from the down type quark sector whereas the up quark sector generates the remaining quark mixing angles. The obtained magnitudes of the CKM matrix elements, the CP violating phase and the Jarlskog invariant are in agreement with the experimental data.

Scalar coupling limits and diphoton Higgs decay from LHC in an $U(1)'$ model with scalar dark matter

In the context of an nonuniversal $U(1)'$ extension of the standard model free from anomalies, we introduce a complex scalar singlet candidate to be dark matter. In addition, an extra scalar doublet and a heavy scalar singlet are required to provide masses to all fermions and to break spontaneously the symmetries. From unitarity and stability of the Higgs potential, we find the full set of bounds and order relations for the scalar coupling constants. Using recent data from the CERN-LHC collider, we study the signal strenght of the diphoton Higgs decay $R_{γγ}$, which imposes very stringent bounds to the scalar couplings and other scalar parameters. We obtain constraints in different scenarios of the space of parameters, where decays into dark matter may or may not contribute according to the mass of the scalar dark matter candidate. By assuming that the lightest scalar boson of the model corresponds to the observed Higgs boson, we evaluate deviations from the SM of the trilineal Higgs self-coupling. The conditions from unitarity, stability and Higgs diphoton decay data allow trilineal deviations in the range $0 \leq δg \lesssim -72\%$.

Top quark Chromoelectric and Chromomagnetic Dipole Moments in a Two Higgs Doublet Model with CP violation

In this work we study the anomalous top quark-gluon couplings Chromoelectric Dipole Moment (CEDM) and Chromomagnetic Dipole Moment (CMDM) in a general THDM with CP violation. We find that this model provides an important contribution from the $Y_{tt}$ Yukawa coupling that needs to be taken into account. The CMDM and CEDM obtained are $-0.03<Δ\tilde{k} < 0.005}$ and $|Δ\tilde{d}| < 0.005$, respectively.

Connection of $g-2_μ$, electroweak, dark matter, and collider constraints on 331 models

In this work we compute all contributions to the muon magnetic moment stemming from several 3-3-1 models namely, minimal 331, 331 with right handed neutrinos, 331 with heavy neutral leptons, 331 with charged exotic leptons, 331 economical and 331 with two higgs triplets. Further, we exploit the complementarity among current electroweak, dark matter and collider constraints to outline the relevant parameter space of the models capable of explaining the anomaly. Lastly, assuming that the experimental anomaly has been otherwise resolved, we derive robust $1σ$ bounds using the current and projected measurements.

Constraints on 3-3-1 models with electroweak Z pole observables and Z' search at LHC

In the framework of general 3-3-1 models, we perform a global $χ^2$ fit at $95\%$ C.L. to the updated Z pole observables, including new data from atomic parity violation. We found scenarios where specific realizations of 3-3-1 models are largely excluded above the current limit on the extra neutral gauge boson ($Z'$) research at LHC. We derive a relation between the $Z-Z'$ mixing angle and the parameter $\tan(β)$ of the effective Two-Higgs-Doublet Model contained into the 3-3-1 spectrum. We show that particular versions of 3-3-1 models containing particles with exotic electric charges are disfavored by the electroweak precision observables in an ample region of the parameter space.

Lepton masses and mixing in $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ models with a $S_3$ flavor symmetry

We propose a model based on the gauge group $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ with an extra $S_{3}$ flavor symmetry, which accounts for the lepton masses and mixing. The small active neutrino masses are generated via a double seesaw mechanism. In this scenario, the spectrum of neutrinos presents very light, light and very heavy masses. The model predicts a quasidegenerate normal hierarchy active neutrino mass spectrum and the relation $Δm_{21}^{2}\ll Δm_{31}^{2}$ arises from effective six-dimensional operators. The obtained neutrino mixing parameters are in agreement with the neutrino oscillation experimental data. We find CP violation in neutrino oscillations with a Jarlskog invariant of about $10^{-2}$.

Rare top decay $t\rightarrow cγ$ in general THDM-III

We study the decay $t\rightarrow cγ$ with flavor-changing neutral interactions in scalar sector of the type III Two Higgs Doublet Model (THDM-III) with mixing between neutral scalar fields as a result of considering the most general scalar potential. The branching ratio of the decay $Br(t\rightarrow cγ)$ is calculated as function of the mixing parameters and masses of the neutral scalar fields. We obtain a $Br(t\rightarrow cγ)$ of the order of $10^{-8}$ for the considered regions of the mixing parameters. Finally, one upper bound for the possible events is estimated to be $n=18$ by assuming a expected luminosity of the order of 300 $fb^{-1}$.

Scalar Dark Matter with CERN-LEP data and $Z'$ search at the LHC in an $U(1)'$ Model

In the framework of an nonuniversal $U(1)'$ extension of the standard model, we propose an scalar candidate for cold dark matter which exhibits interactions with ordinary matter through Higgs and gauge bosons. Using limits from low energy observables, we find constraints on the new physics parameters of the model associated to the extra abelian symmetry, in particular, the mass of the additional neutral gauge boson $Z'$ and the new gauge coupling constant. We found that for the lower experimental limit $M_{Z'}=3$ TeV constrained by direct research at LHC, the ratio between the $U(1)'$ and $SU(2)_L$ gauge coupling constants is around $0.4$. Taking into account this limit and the observable relic density of the Universe, we search for new constraints on the mass of the dark matter particle of the model. We found that for a higgsphobic model, the mass of the scalar dark matter must be $M_σ=70$ GeV. We also found different kinematical threshold and resonances that enhance the dispersion of dark matter into ordinary matter for different regions of the space of parameters of the model, obtaining masses as low as $1.3$ GeV and as large as $125$ GeV with not allowed intermediate regions due to resonances.

Some phenomenological aspects of a new $U(1)'$ model

We propose a new non-universal $U(1)'$ extension of the standard model with the addition of three exotic quark singlets, two scalar singlets and one additional scalar doublet. We obtain family dependent couplings with a new $Z'$ boson in the quark sector and universal couplings with the lepton sector. From experimental data on $Z'$ research at CERN-LHC collider, we find limit regions in the $U(1)'$ free parameters ($Z'$ mass and coupling constant), which we use to obtain total decay width and invariant-mass distributions. By introducing discrete symmetries and mixing couplings between ordinary and exotic fermions, we obtain predictable mass relations in the quark sector compatible with the phenomenological values without large fine tuning of the Yukawa couplings and with few free parameters, where hierarchies between quark families can be understood from the existence of heavy beyond standard model particles.

Operational experience, improvements, and performance of the CDF Run II silicon vertex detector

The Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) pursues a broad physics program at Fermilab's Tevatron collider. Between Run II commissioning in early 2001 and the end of operations in September 2011, the Tevatron delivered 12 fb-1 of integrated luminosity of p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV. Many physics analyses undertaken by CDF require heavy flavor tagging with large charged particle tracking acceptance. To realize these goals, in 2001 CDF installed eight layers of silicon microstrip detectors around its interaction region. These detectors were designed for 2--5 years of operation, radiation doses up to 2 Mrad (0.02 Gy), and were expected to be replaced in 2004. The sensors were not replaced, and the Tevatron run was extended for several years beyond its design, exposing the sensors and electronics to much higher radiation doses than anticipated. In this paper we describe the operational challenges encountered over the past 10 years of running the CDF silicon detectors, the preventive measures undertaken, and the improvements made along the way to ensure their optimal performance for collecting high quality physics data. In addition, we describe the quantities and methods used to monitor radiation damage in the sensors for optimal performance and summarize the detector performance quantities important to CDF's physics program, including vertex resolution, heavy flavor tagging, and silicon vertex trigger performance.

Rare top decay and CP violation in THDM

We discuss the formalism of two Higgs doublet model type III with CP violation from CP-even CP-odd mixing in the neutral Higgs bosons. The flavor changing interactions among neutral Higgs bosons and fermions are presented at tree level in this type of model. These assumptions allow the study rare top decays mediated by neutral Higgs bosons, particularly we are interested in $t\rightarrow c l^+l^-$. For this process we estimated upper bounds of the branching ratios $\textrm{Br}(t\rightarrow c τ^+τ^-)$ of the order of $10^{-9}\sim 10^{-7}$ for a neutral Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV and $\tanβ=1$, 1.5, 2, 2.5. For the case of $t\rightarrow c τ^+τ^-$ the number of possible events is estimated from 1 to 10 events which could be observed in future experiments at LHC with a luminosity of 300 $\textrm{fb}^{-1}$ and 14 GeV for the energy of the center of mass. Also we estimate that the number of events for the process $t\rightarrow c l^+l^-$ in different scenarios is of order of $2500$.

In-plane Dielectric and Magnetoelectric Studies of BiFeO3

In-plane temperature dependent dielectric behavior of BiFeO3 (BFO) as-grown thin films show diffuse but prominent phase transitions near 450 (+/-10) K and 550 K with dielectric loss temperature dependences that suggest skin layer effects. The 450 K anomalies are near the "transition" first reported by Polomska et al. [Phys. Stat. Sol. 23, 567 (1974)]. The 550 K anomalies coincide with the surface phase transition recently reported [Xavi et al. PRL 106, 236101 (2011)]. In addition, anomalies are found at low temperatures: After several experimental cycles the dielectric loss shows a clear relaxor-like phase transition near what was previously suggested to be a spin reorientation transition (SRT) temperature (~ 201 K) for frequencies 1 kHz < f < 1MHz which follow a nonlinear Vogel-Fulcher (V-F) relation; an additional sharp anomaly is observed near ~180 K at frequencies below 1 kHz. As emphasized recently by Cowley et al. [Adv. Phys. 60, 229 (2011)], skin effects are expected for all relaxor ferroelectrics. Using the interdigital electrodes, experimental data and a theoretical model for in-plane longitudinal and transverse direct magnetoelectric (ME) coefficient are presented.

Production of multiple charged Higgs bosons in 3-3-1 models

We undertake the study of the charged Higgs bosons predicted by the model with gauge symmetry $SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X$. By considering Yukawa mixing couplings between small ($\sim$ GeV) and large ($\sim$ TeV) scales, we show that the hypercharge-one $H_1^{\pm}$ and hypercharge-two $H_2^{\pm}$ Higgs bosons predicted by the model, can be simultaneously produced in $pp$ collisions at different production rates. At low energy, the $H_1^{\pm}$ bosons exhibit the same properties as the charged Higgs bosons from a two Higgs doublet model (2HDM), while $H_2^{\pm}$ are additional like-charged Higgs bosons from the underlying 3-3-1 model. Thus, the identification of multiple like-charged Higgs boson resonances may test the compatibility of theoretical models with experimental data. We study $H_{1,2}^{\pm}$ pair and associated $tbH_{1,2}^{\pm}$ productions at CERN LHC collider. In particular, we obtain that pair production can be as large as the single production in gluon-gluon collisions due to the interchange of a heavy neutral $Z'$ gauge boson predicted by the model. By considering decays to leptons $H_{1,2}^{\pm} \rightarrow τν_τ$, we obtain scenarios where small peaks of $H_{2}^{\pm}$-boson events in transverse mass distributions can be identified over the $H_{1}^{\pm}$ background.

Quark mass hierarchy in 3-3-1 models

We study the mass spectrum of the quark sector in an special type I-like model with gauge symmetry $SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X$. By considering couplings with scalar triplets at large ($\sim TeV$) and small ($\sim GeV$) scales, we obtain specific zero-texture mass matrices for the quarks which predict three massless quarks ($u,d,s$) and three massive quarks ($c,b,t$) at the electroweak scale ($\sim$ GeV). Taking into account mixing couplings with three heavy quarks at large scales predicted by the model, the three massless quarks obtain masses at small order that depends on the inverse of the large scale. Thus, masses of the form $m_u \lesssim m_d < m_s \sim MeV$ and $ m_{c,b,t} \sim GeV$ can be obtained naturally from the gauge structure of the model.

The Richardson's Annular effect and a transient solution of oscillating pressure-driven flow in circular pipes

In this paper it is shown that the location of the characteristic overshoot of the Richardson's annular effect changes with the Kinematic Reynolds number $ω^*=ωr_0^2 /ν$ in the range of frequencies within the laminar regime. From the study of the Richardson's overshoot at different times it was identified the existence of aparent transverse damped waves similar to those ones observed in the famous Stokes second problem, the physical analysis of this waves was used for the establishment of a semi-empirical law that gives the functional relation of the mean overshoot maximum with the kinematic reynolds number, say $B_0(ω^*)=2.28 + 0.51{ω^*}^{-1/2}$. Finally a transient solution was constructed and verified asymptotically for large times, and the tipical time for which the transient solution resembles the steady oscillating one was identified to be dependent of the viscosity of the fluid and of the radius of the pipe.

A 3-3-1 model with SU(8) unification

We construct a 3-3-1 model for three families that can be embedded into a single SU(8) unified model. Assuming appropriate branching rules and symmetry-breaking pattern, we find a complete fermion content within irreducible representations of SU(8), where light standard model fermions, heavy 3-3-1 fermions and super-heavy fermions may be distinguished. In the framework of the doubly lopsided mechanism, we obtain mass matrix structures which exhibit nontrivial flavor hierarchical features. Among the up-type quarks, one (top quark) has tree-level mass and two (charm and up) get masses at one-loop level. Considering only dominant contributions, we may obtain the ratios $|m_c/m_t| \approx 7.4 \times 10^{-3}$ and $|m_u/m_c| \approx 1.9 \times 10^{-3}$ with few assumptions on the free parameters and without any hierarchical requirements on the Yukawa couplings.

Adsorption of molecular gases on porous materials in the SAFT-VR approximation

A simple molecular thermodynamic approach is applied to the study of the adsorption of gases of chain molecules on solid surfaces. We use a model based on the Statistical Associating Fluid Theory for Variable Range (SAFT-VR) potentials [A. Gil-Villegas, A. Galindo, P. J. Whitehead, S. J. Mills, G. Jackson, A. N. Burgess, J. Chem. Phys. 106 (1997) 4168] that we extend by including a quasi-two-dimensional approximation to describe the adsorption properties of this type of real gases [A. Martinez, M. Castro, C. McCabe, A. Gil-Villegas, J. Chem. Phys. 126 (2007) 074707]. The model is applied to ethane, ethylene, propane, and carbon dioxide adsorbed on activated carbon and silica gel, which are porous media of significant industrial interest. We show that the adsorption isotherms obtained by means of the present SAFT-VR modeling are in fair agreement with the experimental results provided in the literature

Charged Higgs production at photon colliders in 2HDM-III

We study charged Higgs production in the process $γγ\to A^0\to W^- H^+$. The processes $γγ\to A^0$ are loop mediated in a 2HDM. This is due to the fact that photons only couple directly to charged particles and the Higgs only couples to particles with mass acquired via Higgs mechanism. Although in MSSM the contribution from the process $γγ\to A^0$ is too small, it has been found that in a more general 2HDM it could be enhanced. On the other hand, the boson $A^0$ can decay in $W^- H^+$ at tree level and the charged Higgs can decay in fermions. So, the whole process under study is $γγ\to A^0\to (W^-\to lν) (H^+\to f_if_j)$ in 2HDM-III. Evidence about charged Higgs existence could demonstrate that structure of the Higgs sector has several multiplets.

Constraints on unparticle physics from the $gt\bar t$ anomalous coupling

We study the impact of unparticle physics to the chromomagnetic dipole moment (CMDM) of the top quark. We compute the effect induced by unparticle operators of scalar and vector nature coupled to fermions on the CMDM. We find that this dipole moment is sensitive to the scale dimensions $d_u$ of the unparticle and the new couplings of the respective effective operators. Using the bounds imposed on the CMDM by low-energy precision and Tevatron measurements we derive indirect limits on the unparticle parameter space. In particular, we find that the scalar-unparticle operator contribution fulfills both constraints for most of the unparticle parameter space, while the low-energy precision bound on the CMDM excludes a vector-unparticle contribution for low values of respective scale dimension $d_u$.

Z and Z' decays with and without FCNC in 331 models

In the context of the 331 models, we consider constraints on the extra neutral boson $Z^{\prime}$ predicted by the model, where three different quark family assignments are identified. Using the ansatz of Matsuda as an specific texture for the quark mass matrices, we obtain allowed regions associated with the Z-Z' mixing angle, the mass of the $Z^{\prime}$ boson and the parameter $β$ which determines different 331 models. The $Z_{1}$ and $Z_{2}$ decays with and without flavor changing are also considered. The flavor changing decays of the $Z_{1}$ boson into quarks at tree level are highly suppressed by the $Z-Z^{\prime}$ mixing angle, obtaining the same order of magnitude as the standard model prediction at one loop level. The $% Z_{2}$ decay widths are calculated with and without flavor changing, where oblique radiative corrections at one loop accounts for about $1%-4%$ deviations.

Reparameterization of the scalar potential in the two Higgs doublet model

In the two Higgs doublet model with no additional symmetries in the scalar sector (different from the gauge and Lorentz symmetries), it is customary to reparameterize the model by rotating the scalar doublets such that one of the vacuum expectation values vanishes. It is well known that the Yukawa sector of the model is unaffected by such transformation. Notwithstanding, since the Higgs potential must also be transformed, it is necessary to show that such sector is also unaltered in its physical content. We demostrate that the physical content of the potential is invariant even when the charge conjugation symmetry is demanded.

SU(3)_{c} X SU(3)_{L} X U(1)_{X} models for βarbitrary and families with mirror fermions

A detailed and general study of the fermionic structure of the 331 models with βarbitrary is carried out based on the criterion of cancellation of anomalies. We consider models with an arbitrary number of lepton and quark generations, but requiring to associate only one lepton and one quark SU(3) _{L} multiplet for each generation, and at most one right-handed singlet per each left-handed fermion. We see that the number of quark left-handed multiplets must be three times the number of leptonic left-handed multiplets. Furthermore, we consider a model with four families and β=-1/\sqrt{3} where the additional family corresponds to a mirror fermion of the third generation of the Standard Model. We also show how to generate ansatzs about the mass matrices of the fermions according to the phenomenology. In particular, it is possible to get a natural fit for the neutrino hierarchical masses and mixing angles. Moreover, by means of the mixing between the third quark family and its mirror fermion, a possible solution for the A_{FB}^{b} discrepancy is obtained.

Flavor changing neutral currents from lepton and B decays in the two Higgs doublet model

Constraints on the whole spectrum of lepton flavor violating vertices are shown in the context of the standard two Higgs doublet model. The vertex involving the $e-τ$ mixing is much more constrained than the others, and the decays proportional to such vertex are usually very supressed. On the other hand, bounds on the quark sector are obtained from leptonic decays of the $B_{d,s}^{0}$ mesons and from $ΔM_{B_{d}^{0}}$. We emphasize that although the $B_{d}^{0}-\bar{B}_{d}^{0}$ mixing restricts severely the $% d-b$ mixing vertex, the upper bound for this vertex could still give a sizeable contribution to the decay $B_{d}^{0}\to μ\barμ$ respect to the standard model contribution, from which we see that such vertex could still play a role in the phenomenology.

Bounds on charged higgs boson in the 2HDM type III from Tevatron

We consider the Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM) of type III which leads to Flavour Changing Neutral Currents (FCNC) at tree level. In the framework of this model we can use an appropriate form of the Yukawa Lagrangian that makes the type II model limit of the general type III couplings apparent. This way is useful in order to compare with the experimental data which is model dependent. The analytical expressions of the partial width $Γ(t \to H^+ b) $ are derived and we compare with the data available at this energy range. We examine the limits on the new parameters $λ_{ij}$ from the validness of perturbation theory.

Phenomenology of lepton flavor violation in 2HDM(III) from (g-2)_mu and leptonic decays

We constrain some lepton flavor violating vertices in the context of the two Higgs doublet model type III, assuming that the lightest scalar Higgs mass $% m_{h^{0}} $is about $115 $GeV. Specifically, based on the $g-2 $muon factor and the decay width of$ μ\to eγ$,$ $the following quite general bounds are obtained:$ 7.62\times 10^{-4}\lesssim ξ_{μτ}^{2}\lesssim 4.44\times 10^{-2}, $ $ξ_{eτ}^{2}\lesssim 2.77\times 10^{-14}$. Additionally, based on the processes $τ\to μγ$, and $τ\to μμμ$, bounds on $ξ_{ττ} $and $ξ_{μμ} $are also gotten, such constraints on these parameters$ $still give enough room for either a strong suppression$ $or strong enhancement on the coupling of any Higgs boson to a pair of tau leptons or a pair of muons\textbf{.} Furthermore, upper limits on the decay widths of the leptonic decays $τ\to eγ, $and $τ\to eee $are calculated, finding them to stay far from the reach of near future experiments.

The Anomalous Chromomagnetic Dipole Moment of the Top Quark in Different Frameworks

We give explicit formulae for the anomalous chromomagnetic dipole moment of the top quark in the framework of the standard model, the two higgs doublet model and the minimal supersymmetric standard model. Finally, we compare the results for this coupling with the bound -0.03 <= Delta kappa <= 0.01 coming from analysis of b --> s gamma process whith an on-shell gluon.

The process $μ\to ν_{e}e\barν_μ $in the 2HDM with flavor changing neutral currents

We consider the process $μ\to ν_{e}e\barν_μ $in the framework of a two Higgs doublet model with flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC). Since FCNC generates in turn flavor changing charged currents in the lepton sector, this process appears at tree level mediated by a charged Higgs boson exchange. From the experimental upper limit for this decay, we obtain the bound $| ξ_{μe}/m_{H^{\pm}}| \leq 3.8\times 10^{-3}$ where$ ξ_{μe} $refers to the mixing between the first and second lepton generations, and $m_{H^{\pm}} $denotes the mass of the charged Higgs boson. This bound is independent on the other free parameters of the model. In particular, for $m_{H^{\pm}}\simeq 100$GeV we get $| ξ_{eμ}| $ $\lesssim 0.38$

$SU(3)_c\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ as an $E_6$ Subgroup

An extension of the Standard Model to the local gauge group $SU(3)_c\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ which is a subgroup of the electroweak-strong unification group $E_6$ is analyzed. The mass scales, the gauge boson masses, and the masses for the spin 1/2 particles in the model are calculated. The mass differences between the up and down quark sectors, between the quarks and leptons, and between the charged and neutral leptons in one family are explained as a consequence of mixing of ordinary with exotic fermions implied by the model. By using experimental results we constrain the mixing angle between the two neutral currents and the mass of the additional neutral gauge boson to be $-0.0015 \leq \sinθ\leq 0.0048$ and $600 GeV \leq M_{Z_2}$ at 95% CL. The existence of a Dirac neutrino for each family with a mass of the order of the electroweak mass scale is predicted.

Bounds for FCNC and the Pseudoscalar Higgs mass in the General Two Higgs Doublet Model type III using $g-2$ muon factor

Current muon anomalous magnetic moment data have challenged the SM, and seems to open a window to new Physics. Since the difference between SM and experimental predictions is approximately $2.6σ$. In the framework of the General Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM), we calculate the muon anomalous magnetic moment to get lower and upper bounds for the Flavor Changing Yukawa couplings (FC) in the leptonic sector. We also obtain lower bounds for the mass of the Pseudoscalar Higgs ($m_{A^ 0}$, as a function of the parameters of the model.

Bounds for Lepton Flavor Violation and the Pseudoscalar Higgs in the General Two Higgs Doublet Model using $g-2$ muon factor

Current experimental data from the $g-2$ muon factor, seems to show the necessity of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM), since the difference between SM and experimental predictions is 2.6$σ$. In the framework of the General Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM), we calculate the muon anomalous magnetic moment to get lower and upper bounds for the Flavour Changing (FC) Yukawa couplings in the leptonic sector. We also obtain lower bounds for the mass of the pseudoscalar Higgs ($m_{A^0}$) as a function of the parameters of the model.

Implementation of the Five Qubit Error Correction Benchmark

The smallest quantum code that can correct all one-qubit errors is based on five qubits. We experimentally implemented the encoding, decoding and error-correction quantum networks using nuclear magnetic resonance on a five spin subsystem of labeled crotonic acid. The ability to correct each error was verified by tomography of the process. The use of error-correction for benchmarking quantum networks is discussed, and we infer that the fidelity achieved in our experiment is sufficient for preserving entanglement.

SU(3)_c X SU(3)_L X U(1)_X as an SU(6) X U(1)_X subgroup

An extension of the Standard Model to the local gauge group SU(3)_c X SU(3)_L X U(1)_X as a family independent model is presented. The mass scales, the gauge boson masses and the masses for the spin 1/2 particles in the model are studied. The mass differences between the up and down quark sectors, between the quarks and leptons, and between the charged and neutral leptons in one family are analyzed. The existence of two Dirac neutrinos for each family, one light and one very heavy, is predicted. By using experimental results from LEP, SLC and atomic parity violation we constrain the mixing angle between the two neutral currents and the mass of the additoinal neutral gauge boson to be 0.00013 \leq sinθ \leq 0 and 1.5 TeV \leq M_Z2 at 95% CL.

The anomalous chromomagnetic dipole moment of the top quark in the standard model and beyond

The anomalous chromomagnetic moment of the top quark arises from one loop corrections to the vertex $\bar t t g$. We give explicit formulae for this anomalous coupling in the framework of the standard model, the two Higgs doublet model and the minimal supersymmetric standard model. We compare the results for the anomalous coupling with the bound $-0.03 \leq Δκ\leq 0.01$ emerging from the analysis of $b \to s γ$ process with an on-shell bremsstrahlung gluon. This enables us to study the allowed region of parameters of the models under consideration.

Getting bounds on the mixing angles for a non-sequential bottom quark

We analyze the vertex Zff in the framework of models that add a new bottom quark in a nonsequential way and we evaluate the tree level contribution to LEP/SLC data $R_{b}$, $R_{l}$ and the total Z width $Γ_{Z}$. We obtain bounds for the mixing angles through the experimentally allowed contour regions of the parameters $Λ_{L,R}$ introduced here. In order to get a more restrictive region, we also consider the experimental results for $B\to ννX$ as well.

Lepton Flavor Violation in the Two Higgs Doublet Model type III

We consider the Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM) of type III which leads to Flavour Changing Neutral Currents (FCNC) at tree level in the leptonic sector. In the framework of this model we can have, in principle, two situations: the case (a) when both doublets acquire a vacuum expectation value different from zero and the case (b) when only one of them is not zero. In addition, we show that we can make two types of rotations for the flavor mixing matrices which generates four types of lagrangians, with the rotation of type I we recover the case (b) from the case (a) in the limit $\tan β\to \infty $, and with the rotation of type II we obtain the case (b) from (a) in the limit $\tan β\to 0. $Moreover, two of the four possible lagrangians correspond to the models of types I and II plus Flavor Changing (FC) interactions. The analitical expressions of the partial lepton number violating widths $Γ(μ\to eee) $ and $Γ(μ\to eγ) $are derived for the cases (a) and (b) and both types of rotations.$ $In all cases these widths go asymptotically to zero in the decoupling limit for all Higgses. We present from our analysis upper bounds for the flavour changing transition $μ\to e,$ and we show that such bounds are sensitive to the VEV structure and the type of rotation utilized.

NMR Based Quantum Information Processing: Achievements and Prospects

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) provides an experimental setting to explore physical implementations of quantum information processing (QIP). Here we introduce the basic background for understanding applications of NMR to QIP and explain their current successes, limitations and potential. NMR spectroscopy is well known for its wealth of diverse coherent manipulations of spin dynamics. Ideas and instrumentation from liquid state NMR spectroscopy have been used to experiment with QIP. This approach has carried the field to a complexity of about 10 qubits, a small number for quantum computation but large enough for observing and better understanding the complexity of the quantum world. While liquid state NMR is the only present-day technology about to reach this number of qubits, further increases in complexity will require new methods. We sketch one direction leading towards a scalable quantum computer using spin 1/2 particles. The next step of which is a solid state NMR-based QIP capable of reaching 10-30 qubits.
