Contribution to the neutrino magnetic moment coming from 2HDM in presence of magnetic fields

The confirmation of the neutrino mass by oscillation phenomena converts the study of the magnetic dipole moment (MDM) of the neutrino, in vacuum and regions where existing external magnetic fields, a topic of particular interest from the theoretical point of view. The MDM has an implicit relation with neutrino masses, and this is a possible benchmark from new physics in the solution of open questions in neutrino physics. Besides we know that this kind of phenomena has significant consequences on cosmology and astrophysics, e.g., under the influence of combined effects of neutrinos in the compact objects formation and evolution of primordials magnetic fields. We calculate and analyze such effects introducing charged Higgs bosons based on the parameter space of several 2HDMs with and without flavor conservation in neutral currents.

Phenomenological aspects from vacuum stability and metastability in models with soft breaking of a \texorpdfstring{$U\left( 1\right)$}{lg} global symmetry

We study the vacuum behavior of an extended Higgs sector with two doublets in a scenario with a softly broken \texorpdfstring{$U(1)$}{lg} global symmetry. The soft-violation term is introduced to avoid massless-axion particles arising when the global symmetry becomes spontaneously broken. This model has metastable states through the possible presence of multiple non-degenerate minima, which is unwanted from the phenomenological point of view if the metastable state is not long-lived enough. The analysis of this fact leads to find possible exclusion limits over parameter space of quartic couplings. Results improve the individual behavior of initial conditions for renormalization group equations; also determining unstable zones for the effective Higgs potential at one loop level. Besides vacuum stability analyses, the influence of absence of charge violation minima is considered as a limiting case excluding zones in the parameter space. Extremal cases for the model as well as criticality phenomena are discussed with the aid of relation among Higgs masses or splittings among them. From vacuum behavior and LHC results, phenomenological aspects in the searching of charged and heavier Higgs bosons are considered to evaluate the scalar alignment regimen of the two Higgs doublet model.

Study of vacuum behavior for inert models with discrete $Z_{2}$-like and abelian $U(1)$ symmetries

We study the vacuum behavior at one loop level in extended Higgs sectors with two doublets (2HDM), where $U(1)$ and $Z_{2}$ symmetries are considered to protect the $CP$ symmetry in the Higgs potential and to avoid Flavor Changing Neutral Currents at tree level in the Yukawa sector. In the Inert Higgs Model case, a detailed comparison is made between both models by using the energy evolution of couplings, which should satisfy energy scale dependent relations deduced for minima and stationary points of the Higgs potential at tree level. Besides, perturbative unitarity constraints at tree level are considered to generate the allowed parameter space compatible with perturbativity (absence of Landau poles). Our studies illustrate exclusion regions for Higgs masses and other combinations of couplings in the scalar sector, in particular for splittings of mass square for neutral scalars $A^{0}$ and $H^{0}$, as well as the difference between the sum of these and the charged Higgs mass square. From the vacuum stability for inert-2HDM at the tree and one loop levels, analyses lead us to find out new hierarchical structures for scalar masses. To complete vacuum studies on the Inert model, and based on reparameterization invariance of the Higgs potential, we compute original discriminants that allow ensuring the presence of a global electroweak minimum at tree level. Moreover, the behavior in high energy scales drives out analyzing criticality phenomena for the additional parameters of extended Higgs sectors. Finally, and using the consistency with the electroweak precision analyses of oblique parameters, we describe several implications from different regimes of the inert model on charged and pseudoscalar Higgs searches.

Constraints on neutrino masses coming from magnetic dipole moments in a two Higgs doublet model type I and II

In the framework of a two Higgs doublet model type I and type II, we calculate limits on neutrino masses for the different types of neutrinos, by using the experimental bounds on their magnetic dipole moments. This is carried out by analyzing diagrams of Cherenkov neutrino decays with a charged Higgs into the loop, coming from the two Higgs doublet model (2HDM). Such constraints are translated into allowed regions in the free parameters of the models, for each neutrino flavor. The analysis was performed by sweeping the charged Higgs mass between (100-900)GeV and taking into account the experimental constraints for $\tanβ$ in the 2HDM type I and II, obtaining contributions close to the experimental thresholds for muon and tau neutrinos, while for electron neutrino the relevant contribution comes from standard model and keeps out of the reach of forthcoming experiments.

Solutions of Laplace's equation with simple boundary conditions, and their applications for capacitors with multiple symmetries

We find solutions of Laplace's equation with specific boundary conditions (in which such solutions take either the value zero or unity in each surface) using a generic curvilinear system of coordinates. Such purely geometrical solutions (that we shall call Basic Harmonic Functions BHF's) are utilized to obtain a more general class of solutions for Laplace's equation, in which the functions take arbitrary constant values on the boundaries. On the other hand, the BHF's are also used to obtain the capacitance of many electrostatic configurations of conductors. This method of finding solutions of Laplace's equation and capacitances with multiple symmetries is particularly simple, owing to the fact that the method of separation of variables becomes much simpler under the boundary conditions that lead to the BHF's. Examples of application in complex symmetries are given. Then, configurations of succesive embedding of conductors are also examined. In addition, expressions for electric fields between two conductors and charge densities on their surfaces are obtained in terms of generalized curvilinear coordinates. It worths remarking that it is plausible to extrapolate the present method to other linear homogeneous differential equations.

Study of the apsidal precession of the Physical Symmetrical Pendulum

We study the apsidal precession of a Physical Symmetrical Pendulum (Allais' precession) as a generalization of the precession corresponding to the Ideal Spherical Pendulum (Airy's Precession). Based on the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism and using the technics of variation of parameters along with the averaging method, we obtain approximate solutions, in terms of which the motion of both systems admits a simple geometrical description. The method developed in this paper is considerably simpler than the standard one in terms of elliptical functions and the numerical agreement with the exact solutions is excellent. In addition, the present procedure permits to show clearly the origin of the Airy's and Allais' precession, as well as the effect of the spin of the Physical Pendulum on the Allais' precession. Further, the method can be extended to the study of the asymmetrical pendulum in which an exact solution is not possible anymore.

Unitarity constraints for Yukawa couplings in the two Higgs doublet model type III

Unitarity constraints for Yukawa couplings are considered in the Two Higgs Doublet Model type III, by using a general expansion in partial waves for fermionic scattering processes. Constraints over general Flavor Changing Neutral Currents are found from that systematic, such bounds compete with those coming from Lagrangian perturbativity requirement but are weaker than those imposed from phenomenological processes and precision tests. Nevertheless, for bounds based on unitarity the number of assumptions is the lowest among phenomenological and theoretical limits. Indeed, these new theoretical constraints are independent of scalar masses or mixing angles for this extended Higgs sector, making them less model dependent.

Work and energy in rotating systems

Literature analyzes the way in which Newton's second law can be used when non-inertial rotating systems are used. However, the treatment of the work and energy theorem in rotating systems is not considered in textbooks. In this paper, we show that the work and energy theorem can still be applied to a closed system of particles in a rotating system, as long as the work of fictitious forces is properly included in the formalism. The coriolis force does not contribute to the work coming from fictitious forces. It worths remarking that real forces that do not do work in an inertial reference frame can do work in the rotating reference frame and viceversa. The combined effects of acceleration of the origin and rotation of the non-inertial system are also studied.

The positivity and other properties of the matrix of capacitance: physical and mathematical implications

We prove that the matrix of capacitance in electrostatics is a positive-singular matrix with a non-degenerate null eigenvalue. We explore the physical implications of this fact, and study the physical meaning of the eigenvalue problem for such a matrix. Many properties are easily visualized by constructing a "potential space" isomorphic to the euclidean space. The problem of minimizing the internal energy of a system of conductors under constraints is considered, and an equivalent capacitance for an arbitrary number of conductors is obtained. Moreover, some properties of systems of conductors in successive embedding are examined. Finally, we discuss some issues concerning the gauge invariance of the formulation.

The role of the virtual work in Faraday's law

In the context of Faraday's induction law, we show that the concept of virtual work provides another point of view to clarify the nature of the induced electric field, as well as the fact that the integral over a closed path of the induced electric field is not the work performed by a unit charge. The usefulness of the concept of virtual conservativity is discussed. Further, we study the relation between the electromotive force and the real work done by an external agent to keep a circuit at constant velocity. From this discussion it is observed that magnetic forces can be non-conservative from the mathematical point of view, but can be treated as conservative for all practical purposes.

Work and energy in inertial and non inertial reference frames

It is usual in introductory courses of mechanics to develop the work and energy formalism from Newton's laws. On the other hand, literature analyzes the way in which forces transform under a change of reference frame. Notwithstanding, no analogous study is done for the way in which work and energy transform under those changes of reference frames. We analyze the behavior of energy and work under such transformations and show explicitly the expected invariance of the formalism under Galilean transformations for one particle and a system of particles. The case of non inertial systems is also analyzed and the fictitious works are characterized. In particular, we show that the total fictitious work in the center of mass system vanishes even if the center of mass defines a non inertial frame. Finally, some subtleties that arise from the formalism are illustrated by examples.

Electrostatic internal energy using the method of images

For several configurations of charges in the presence of conductors, the method of images permits us to obtain some observables associated with such a configuration by replacing the conductors with some image charges. However, simple inspection shows that the potential energy associated with both systems does not coincide. Nevertheless, it can be shown that for a system of a grounded or neutral conductor and a distribution of charges outside, the external potential energy associated with the real charge distribution embedded in the field generated by the set of image charges is twice the value of the internal potential energy associated with the original system. This assertion is valid for any size and shape of the conductor, and regardless of the configuration of images required. In addition, even in the case in which the conductor is not grounded nor neutral, it is still possible to calculate the internal potential energy of the original configuration through the method of images. These results show that the method of images could also be useful for calculations of the internal potential energy of the original system.

Reparameterization of the scalar potential in the two Higgs doublet model

In the two Higgs doublet model with no additional symmetries in the scalar sector (different from the gauge and Lorentz symmetries), it is customary to reparameterize the model by rotating the scalar doublets such that one of the vacuum expectation values vanishes. It is well known that the Yukawa sector of the model is unaffected by such transformation. Notwithstanding, since the Higgs potential must also be transformed, it is necessary to show that such sector is also unaltered in its physical content. We demostrate that the physical content of the potential is invariant even when the charge conjugation symmetry is demanded.

SU(3)_{c} X SU(3)_{L} X U(1)_{X} models for βarbitrary and families with mirror fermions

A detailed and general study of the fermionic structure of the 331 models with βarbitrary is carried out based on the criterion of cancellation of anomalies. We consider models with an arbitrary number of lepton and quark generations, but requiring to associate only one lepton and one quark SU(3) _{L} multiplet for each generation, and at most one right-handed singlet per each left-handed fermion. We see that the number of quark left-handed multiplets must be three times the number of leptonic left-handed multiplets. Furthermore, we consider a model with four families and β=-1/\sqrt{3} where the additional family corresponds to a mirror fermion of the third generation of the Standard Model. We also show how to generate ansatzs about the mass matrices of the fermions according to the phenomenology. In particular, it is possible to get a natural fit for the neutrino hierarchical masses and mixing angles. Moreover, by means of the mixing between the third quark family and its mirror fermion, a possible solution for the A_{FB}^{b} discrepancy is obtained.

Flavor changing neutral currents from lepton and B decays in the two Higgs doublet model

Constraints on the whole spectrum of lepton flavor violating vertices are shown in the context of the standard two Higgs doublet model. The vertex involving the $e-τ$ mixing is much more constrained than the others, and the decays proportional to such vertex are usually very supressed. On the other hand, bounds on the quark sector are obtained from leptonic decays of the $B_{d,s}^{0}$ mesons and from $ΔM_{B_{d}^{0}}$. We emphasize that although the $B_{d}^{0}-\bar{B}_{d}^{0}$ mixing restricts severely the $% d-b$ mixing vertex, the upper bound for this vertex could still give a sizeable contribution to the decay $B_{d}^{0}\to μ\barμ$ respect to the standard model contribution, from which we see that such vertex could still play a role in the phenomenology.

Phenomenology of lepton flavor violation in 2HDM(III) from (g-2)_mu and leptonic decays

We constrain some lepton flavor violating vertices in the context of the two Higgs doublet model type III, assuming that the lightest scalar Higgs mass $% m_{h^{0}} $is about $115 $GeV. Specifically, based on the $g-2 $muon factor and the decay width of$ μ\to eγ$,$ $the following quite general bounds are obtained:$ 7.62\times 10^{-4}\lesssim ξ_{μτ}^{2}\lesssim 4.44\times 10^{-2}, $ $ξ_{eτ}^{2}\lesssim 2.77\times 10^{-14}$. Additionally, based on the processes $τ\to μγ$, and $τ\to μμμ$, bounds on $ξ_{ττ} $and $ξ_{μμ} $are also gotten, such constraints on these parameters$ $still give enough room for either a strong suppression$ $or strong enhancement on the coupling of any Higgs boson to a pair of tau leptons or a pair of muons\textbf{.} Furthermore, upper limits on the decay widths of the leptonic decays $τ\to eγ, $and $τ\to eee $are calculated, finding them to stay far from the reach of near future experiments.

The process $μ\to ν_{e}e\barν_μ $in the 2HDM with flavor changing neutral currents

We consider the process $μ\to ν_{e}e\barν_μ $in the framework of a two Higgs doublet model with flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC). Since FCNC generates in turn flavor changing charged currents in the lepton sector, this process appears at tree level mediated by a charged Higgs boson exchange. From the experimental upper limit for this decay, we obtain the bound $| ξ_{μe}/m_{H^{\pm}}| \leq 3.8\times 10^{-3}$ where$ ξ_{μe} $refers to the mixing between the first and second lepton generations, and $m_{H^{\pm}} $denotes the mass of the charged Higgs boson. This bound is independent on the other free parameters of the model. In particular, for $m_{H^{\pm}}\simeq 100$GeV we get $| ξ_{eμ}| $ $\lesssim 0.38$

Bounds for FCNC and the Pseudoscalar Higgs mass in the General Two Higgs Doublet Model type III using $g-2$ muon factor

Current muon anomalous magnetic moment data have challenged the SM, and seems to open a window to new Physics. Since the difference between SM and experimental predictions is approximately $2.6σ$. In the framework of the General Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM), we calculate the muon anomalous magnetic moment to get lower and upper bounds for the Flavor Changing Yukawa couplings (FC) in the leptonic sector. We also obtain lower bounds for the mass of the Pseudoscalar Higgs ($m_{A^ 0}$, as a function of the parameters of the model.

Bounds for Lepton Flavor Violation and the Pseudoscalar Higgs in the General Two Higgs Doublet Model using $g-2$ muon factor

Current experimental data from the $g-2$ muon factor, seems to show the necessity of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM), since the difference between SM and experimental predictions is 2.6$σ$. In the framework of the General Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM), we calculate the muon anomalous magnetic moment to get lower and upper bounds for the Flavour Changing (FC) Yukawa couplings in the leptonic sector. We also obtain lower bounds for the mass of the pseudoscalar Higgs ($m_{A^0}$) as a function of the parameters of the model.
