Dark matter and scalar sector in a novel two-loop scotogenic neutrino mass model

We propose an extended $3+1$ Higgs doublet model where the Standard Model (SM) gauge structure is enhanced by the discrete symmetry $Q_6 \times Z_2 \times Z_4$, and the fermion content is extended with right-handed Majorana neutrinos. The scalar sector, besides four $SU(2)$ doublets, incorporates multiple gauge-singlet scalars. In our model, the tiny active neutrino masses arise from a novel radiative seesaw mechanism at two-loop level and the leptonic mixing features the cobimaximal mixing pattern compatible with neutrino oscillation experimental data. Along with this, the proposed model is consistent with SM quark masses and mixings as well as with the constraints arising from dark matter relic density and dark matter direct detection. Our analysis reveals that the best-fit point satisfying dark matter constraints yields a non-SM scalar with mass near $95$ GeV, which could be a possible candidate for the observed $95$ GeV diphoton excess. We further obtain other non SM scalars with masses at the subTeV scale which are within the LHC reach, while successfully complying with the experimental bounds arising from collider searches.

Fermion mass hierarchy in an extended left-right symmetric model

We present a Left-Right symmetric model that provides an explanation for the mass hierarchy of the charged fermions within the framework of the Standard Model. This explanation is achieved through the utilization of both tree-level and radiative seesaw mechanisms. In this model, the tiny masses of the light active neutrinos are generated via a three-loop radiative inverse seesaw mechanism, with Dirac and Majorana submatrices arising at one-loop level. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first example of the inverse seesaw mechanism being implemented with both submatrices generated at one-loop level. The model contains a global $U(1)_{X}$ symmetry which, after its spontaneous breaking, allows for the stabilization of the Dark Matter (DM) candidates. We show that the electroweak precision observables, the electron and muon anomalous magnetic moments as well as the Charged Lepton Flavor Violating decays, $μ\rightarrow e γ$, are consistent with the current experimental limits. In addition, we analyze the implications of the model for the $95$ GeV diphoton excess recently reported by the CMS collaboration and demonstrate that such anomaly could be easily accommodated. Finally, we discuss qualitative aspects of DM in the considered model.

$Z$ mediated Flavour Changing Neutral Currents with a Fourth Vector-Like Family

We discuss $Z$ mediated flavour changing neutral currents within a model where the hierarchical quark and lepton masses are explained via a fourth vector-like family, together with a scalar sector consisting of two Higgs doublets augmented by a gauge singlet scalar field that spontaneously breaks an extra global $U(1)^{\prime}$ symmetry. The $Z$ mediated flavor violating interactions arise from the mixings between the SM fermions and the vector-like fermions, where the mixing is discussed in an analytic approximation and also exactly numerically. We first discuss charged lepton flavor violating (CLFV) $τ\rightarrow μγ, τ\rightarrow 3μ$ and $Z \rightarrow μτ$ decays and find that they cannot significantly constrain the masses of charged vector-like leptons. However, the $790 \text{GeV}$ mass bound arising from collider searches on vector-like lepton doublets can set further constraints on the model parameter space. We also consider rare $t \rightarrow c Z$ decays as well as unitarity violation in the CKM mixing in order to constrain the quark sector of the model under consideration.

A renormalizable left-right symmetric model with low scale seesaw mechanisms

We propose a low scale renormalizable left-right symmetric theory that successfully explains the observed SM fermion mass hierarchy, the tiny values for the light active neutrino masses and is consistent with the lepton and baryon asymmetries of the Universe, the muon and electron anomalous magnetic moments as well as the with the constraints arising from the meson oscillations. In the proposed model the top and exotic quarks obtain masses at tree level, whereas the masses of the bottom, charm and strange quarks, tau and muon leptons are generated from a tree level Universal Seesaw mechanism, thanks to their mixings with the charged exotic vector like fermions. The masses for the first generation SM charged fermions arise from a radiative seesaw mechanism at one loop level, mediated by charged vector like fermions and electrically neutral scalars. The light active neutrino masses are produced from a one-loop level inverse seesaw mechanism mediated by electrically neutral scalar singlets and right handed Majorana neutrinos. Our model is also consistent with the experimental constraints arising from the Higgs diphoton decay rate as well as with the constraints arising from charged lepton flavor violation. We also discuss the $Z^{\prime }$ and heavy scalar production at a proton-proton collider.

An extended 3-3-1 model with radiative linear seesaw mechanism

Motivated by the recent muon anomalous magnetic moment (g-2) measurement at FERMILAB and non-zero neutrino masses, we propose a model based on the $SU(3)_C \times SU(3)_L \times U(1)_X$ (3-3-1) gauge symmetry. The most popular 3-3-1 models in the literature require the presence of a scalar sextet to address neutrino masses. In our work, we show that we can successfully implement an one-loop linear seesaw mechanism with right-handed neutrinos, and vector-like fermions to nicely explain the active neutrino masses, and additionally reproduce the recent Muon g-2 result, in agreement with existing bounds.

Can the muon anomalous magnetic moment and the $B$ anomalies be simultaneously explained in a minimally extended $Z^{\prime}$ model?

We analyze the implications of an extended 2HDM theory in quark masses and mixings, electroweak precision tests, charged lepton flavor violating (CLFV) decays, neutrino trident production, B meson, $g-2$ muon and W anomalies. In the extended 2HDM theory considered in this work, the SM gauge symmetry is enlarged by the local $U(1)^{\prime}$ symmetry, whereas its scalar and fermion sectors are augmented by the inclusion of a gauge singlet scalar and vectorlike fermions, respectively. Within the framework of this model, we determine the allowed ranges of the $Z^{\prime}$ gauge boson mass consistent with the constraints arising from neutrino trident production, $R_{K^{*}}$ anomaly, $B_{s}$ meson oscillation. We conclude the $R_{K^{*}}$ and muon $g-2$ anomalies cannot be simultaneously explained by the same new physics under all the constraints. Besides that, we found that the new physics sources, the $Z^{\prime}$ and non SM scalars cannot be connected via the scalar potential. Furthermore, we have found that the model under consideration can successfully comply with the constraints arising from oblique $T,S,U$ parameters as well as with the $W$ mass and $g-2$ muon anomalies. In particular we found that the muon $g-2$ anomaly, whose dominant contribution arises from the one loop level scalar exchange, can be successfully accommodated within the $2σ$ experimentally allowed range.

Collider signatures of vector-like fermions from a flavor symmetric model

We propose a model with two Higgs doublets and several $SU(2)$ scalar singlets with a global non-Abelian flavor symmetry $\mathcal{Q}_6\times\mathcal{Z}_2$. This discrete group accounts for the observed pattern of fermion masses and mixing angles after spontaneous symmetry breaking. In this scenario only the third generation of fermions get their masses as in the Standard Model (SM). The masses of the remaining fermions are generated through a seesaw-like mechanism. To that end, the matter content of the model is enlarged by introducing electrically charged vector-like fermions (VLFs), right handed Majorana neutrinos and several SM scalar singlets. Here we study the processes involving VLFs that are within the reach of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We perform collider studies for vector-like leptons (VLLs) and vector-like quarks (VLQs), focusing on double production channels for both cases, while for VLLs single production topologies are also included. Utilizing genetic algorithms for neural network optimization, we determine the statistical significance for a hypothetical discovery at future LHC runs. In particular, we show that we can not safely exclude VLLs for masses greater than $200~\mathrm{GeV}$. For VLQ's in our model, we show that we can probe their masses up to 3.8 TeV, if we take only into account the high-luminosity phase of the LHC. Considering Run-III luminosities, we can also exclude VLQs for masses up to $3.4~\mathrm{TeV}$. We also show how the model with predicted VLL masses accommodates the muon anomalous magnetic moment.

Fermion mass hierarchies from vector-like families with an extended 2HDM and a possible explanation for the electron and muon anomalous magnetic moments

We study an extended 2 Higgs doublet model (2HDM) in which the Standard Model (SM) Yukawa interactions are forbidden due to a global $U(1)^\prime$ symmetry, but may arise via mixing with vector-like families. In this model, the hierarchical structure of Yukawa couplings of quarks and leptons in the SM arises from the heavy masses of the fourth and fifth vector-like families. Within this model, we consider various non-standard contributions to the electron and muon anomalous magnetic moments. We first consider the $W$ exchange at one-loop level, consistent with the $μ\rightarrow e γ$ constraint, and show that it yields a negligible contribution to both electron and muon anomalous magnetic moments. We then consider Higgs scalar exchange, together with vector-like leptons, at one-loop level and show that it is possible to have non-standard contributions to the electron and muon anomalous magnetic moments within the $1σ$ constraint of certain experiments. We present some benchmark points for both the muon and the electron anomalies, together with some numerical scans around these points, which indicate the mass regions of the Higgs scalars of the 2HDM in this scenario.

Fermion masses and mixings and $g-2$ muon anomaly in a 3-3-1 model with $D_4$ family symmetry

We propose a predictive model based on the $SU(3)_C\times SU(3)_L\times U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry, which is supplemented by the $D_4$ family symmetry and several auxiliary cyclic symmetries whose spontaneous breaking produces the observed SM fermion mass and mixing pattern. The masses of the light active neutrinos are produced by an inverse seesaw mechanism mediated by three right handed Majorana neutrinos. To the best of our knowledge the model corresponds to the first implementation of the $D_4$ family symmetry in a $SU(3)_C\times SU(3)_L\times U(1)_X$ theory with three right handed Majorana neutrinos and inverse seesaw mechanism. Our proposed model successfully accommodates the experimental values of the SM fermion mass and mixing parameters, the muon anomalous magnetic moment as well as the Higgs diphoton decay rate and meson oscillations constraints. The consistency of our model with the muon anomalous magnetic moment requires charged exotic vector like leptons at the TeV scale.

Universal Inverse seesaw mechanism as a source of the SM fermion mass hierarchy

We build a renormalizable theory where the inverse seesaw mechanism explains the pattern of SM fermion masses. To the best of our knowledge, our model corresponds to the first implementation of the inverse seesaw mechanism for the charged fermion sector. In our theory, the inverse seesaw mechanism is implemented at the tree and one-loop levels in order to generate the masses for the second and first families of the SM charged fermions, respectively. The third family of SM charged fermions obtain tree-level masses from the Higgs doublets $ϕ_{1}$ (for the top quark) and $ϕ_{2}$ (for the bottom quark and tau lepton). The masses of the active light neutrinos are generated from a two-loop level inverse seesaw mechanism. Our model successfully explains the observed SM fermion mass hierarchy, the tiny masses of the active light neutrinos, contains the necessary means for efficient leptogenesis and is in accordance with the constraints resulting from meson oscillations, as well as with the measured values of the observed dark matter relic density and of the muon and electron anomalous magnetic moments.

Controlled fermion mixing and FCNCs in a $Δ(27)$ 3+1 Higgs Doublet Model

We propose a 3+1 Higgs Doublet Model based on the $Δ(27)$ family symmetry supplemented by several auxiliary cyclic symmetries leading to viable Yukawa textures for the Standard Model fermions, consistent with the observed pattern of fermion masses and mixings. The charged fermion mass hierarchy and the quark mixing pattern is generated by the spontaneous breaking of the discrete symmetries due to flavons that act as Froggatt-Nielsen fields. The tiny neutrino masses arise from a radiative seesaw mechanism at one loop level, thanks to a preserved $Z_2^{\left( 1\right)}$ discrete symmetry, which also leads to stable scalar and fermionic dark matter candidates. The leptonic sector features the predictive cobimaximal mixing pattern, consistent with the experimental data from neutrino oscillations. For the scenario of normal neutrino mass hierarchy, the model predicts an effective Majorana neutrino mass parameter in the range $3$~meV$\lesssim m_{ββ}\lesssim$ $18$ meV, which is within the declared range of sensitivity of modern experiments. The model predicts Flavour Changing Neutral Currents which constrain the model, for instance Kaon mixing and $μ\to e$ nuclear conversion processes, the latter which are found to be within the reach of the forthcoming experiments.

Fermion spectrum and $g-2$ anomalies in a low scale 3-3-1 model

We propose a renormalizable theory based on the $SU(3)_C\times SU(3)_L\times U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry, supplemented by the spontaneously broken $U(1)_{L_g}$ global lepton number symmetry and the $S_3 \times Z_2 $ discrete group, which successfully describes the observed SM fermion mass and mixing hierarchy. In our model the top and exotic quarks get tree level masses, whereas the bottom, charm and strange quarks as well as the tau and muon leptons obtain their masses from a tree level Universal seesaw mechanism thanks to their mixing with charged exotic vector like fermions. The masses for the first generation SM charged fermions are generated from a radiative seesaw mechanism at one loop level. The light active neutrino masses are produced from a loop level radiative seesaw mechanism. Our model successfully accommodates the experimental values for electron and muon anomalous magnetic dipole moments.

Scotogenic neutrino masses with gauged matter parity and gauge coupling unification

Building up on previous work we propose a Dark Matter (DM) model with gauged matter parity and dynamical gauge coupling unification, driven by the same physics responsible for scotogenic neutrino mass generation. Our construction is based on the extended gauge group \3311, whose spontaneous breaking leaves a residual conserved matter parity, $M_{P}$, stabilizing the DM particle candidates of the model. A key role is played by the Majorana ${\rm SU(3)_{L}}$-octet leptons, in allowing successful gauge coupling unification and one-loop scotogenic neutrino mass generation. Theoretical consistency allows for a \emph{plethora} of new particles at the $\lsim \mathcal{O}$(10) TeV scale, hence accessible to future collider and low-energy experiments.

$Δ(27)$ framework for cobimaximal neutrino mixing models

We propose a simple framework based on $Δ(27)$ that leads to the successful cobimaximal lepton mixing ansatz, thus providing a predictive explanation for leptonic mixing observables. We explore first the effective neutrino mass operators, then present a specific model realization based on type I seesaw, and also propose a model with radiative 1-loop seesaw which features viable dark matter candidates.

Fermion masses and mixings and some phenomenological aspects of a 3-3-1 model with linear seesaw mechanism

We propose a viable theory based on the $SU(3)_C\times SU(3)_L\times U(1)_X$ gauge group supplemented by the $S_4$ discrete group together with other various symmetries, whose spontaneous breaking gives rise to the current SM fermion mass and mixing hierarchy. In the proposed theory the small light active neutrino masses are generated from a linear seesaw mechanism mediated by three Majorana neutrinos. The model is capable of reproducing the experimental values of the physical observables of both quark and lepton sectors. Our model is predictive in the quark sector having 9 effective parameters that allow to successfully reproduce the four CKM parameters and the six Standard Model (SM) quark masses. In the SM quark sector, there is particular scenario, motivated by naturalness arguments, which allows a good fit for its ten observables, with only six effective parameters. We also study the single heavy scalar production via gluon fusion mechanism at proton-proton collider. Our model is also consistent with the experimental constraints arising from the Higgs diphoton decay rate.

How low-scale Trinification sheds light in the flavour hierarchies, neutrino puzzle, dark matter and leptogenesis

We propose a low-scale renormalizable trinification theory that successfully explains the flavor hierarchies and neutrino puzzle in the Standard Model (SM), as well as provides a dark matter candidate and also contains the necessary means for efficient leptogenesis. The proposed theory is based on the trinification $\SU{3}{C}\times \SU{3}{L}\times \SU{3}{R}$ gauge symmetry, which is supplemented with an additional flavor symmetry $\U{X}\times Z_{2}^{(1)} \times Z_{2}^{(2)}$. In the proposed model the top quark and the exotic fermions acquire tree-level masses, whereas the lighter SM charged fermions gain masses radiatively at one-loop level. In addition, the light active neutrino masses arise from a combination of radiative and type-I seesaw mechanisms, with the Dirac neutrino mass matrix generated at one-loop level.

Is it possible to explain the muon and electron $g-2$ in a $Z^{\prime}$ model?

In order to address this question, we consider a simple renormalisable and gauge invariant model in which the $Z'$ only has couplings to the electron and muon and their associated neutrinos, arising from mixing with a heavy vector-like fourth family of leptons. Within this model we discuss the contributions to the electron and muon anomalous magnetic moments from $Z'$ exchange, subject to the constraints from $μ\rightarrow e γ$ and neutrino trident production. Using analytic and numerical arguments, we find that such a $Z'$ model can account for either the electron or the muon $g-2$ anomalies, but not both, while remaining consistent with the experimental constraints from $μ\rightarrow e γ$ and neutrino trident production.

Littlest Inverse Seesaw Model

We propose a minimal predictive inverse seesaw model based on two right-handed neutrinos and two additional singlets, leading to the same low energy neutrino mass matrix as in the Littlest Seesaw (LS) (type I) model. In order to implement such a Littlest Inverse Seesaw (LIS) model, we have used an $S_{4}$ family symmetry, together with other various symmetries, flavons and driving fields. The resulting LIS model leads to an excellent fit to the low energy neutrino parameters, including the prediction of a normal neutrino mass ordering, exactly as in the usual LS model. However, unlike the LS model, the LIS model allows charged lepton flavour violating (CLFV) processes and lepton conversion in nuclei within reach of the forthcoming experiments.

Low scale type I seesaw model for lepton masses and mixings

In contrast to the original type I seesaw mechanism that requires right-handed Majorana neutrinos at energies much higher than the electroweak scale, the so-called low scale seesaw models allow lighter masses for the additional neutrinos. Here we propose an alternative low scale type I seesaw model, where neither linear nor inverse seesaw mechanisms take place, but the spontaneous breaking of a discrete symmetry at an energy scale much lower than the model cutoff is responsible for the smallness of the light active neutrino masses. In this scenario, the model is defined with minimal particle content, where the right-handed Majorana neutrinos can have masses at the $\sim 50\mbox{ GeV}$ scale. The model is predictive in the neutrino sector having only four effective parameters that allow to successfully reproduce the experimental values of the six low energy neutrino observables.

Minimal model for the fermion flavor structure, mass hierarchy, dark matter, leptogenesis, and the electron and muon anomalous magnetic moments

We propose a renormalizable theory with minimal particle content and symmetries, that successfully explains the number of Standard Model (SM) fermion families, the SM fermion mass hierarchy, the tiny values for the light active neutrino masses, the lepton and baryon asymmetry of the Universe, the dark matter relic density as well as the muon and electron anomalous magnetic moments. In the proposed model, the top quark and the exotic fermions do acquire tree-level masses whereas the SM charged fermions lighter than the top quark gain one-loop level masses. Besides that, the tiny masses for the light active neutrino are generated from an inverse seesaw mechanism at one-loop level.

Sequentially loop supressed fermion masses from a unique discrete symmetry

We propose a systematic and renormalizable sequential loop suppression mechanism to generate the hierarchy of the Standard Model fermion masses from one discrete symmetry. The discrete symmetry is sequentially softly broken in order to generate one-loop level masses for the bottom, charm, tau and muon leptons and two-loop level masses for the lightest Standard Model charged fermions. The tiny masses for the light active neutrinos are produced from radiative type-I seesaw mechanism, where the Dirac mass terms are effectively generated at two-loop level.

Simple theory for scotogenic dark matter with residual matter-parity

Dark matter stability can result from a residual matter-parity symmetry surviving spontaneous breaking of an extended gauge symmetry. We propose the simplest scotogenic dark matter completion of the original SVS theory (Phys.Rev. A 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos based on the $Δ\left(27\right)$ family symmetry

We present the first multiscalar singlet extension of the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos, based on the $Δ\left( 27\right) $ family symmetry, supplemented by the $Z_{4}\otimes Z_{8}\otimes Z_{14}$ flavor group, consistent with current low energy fermion flavor data. In the model under consideration, the light active neutrino masses are generated from a double seesaw mechanism and the observed pattern of charged fermion masses and quark mixing angles is caused by the breaking of the $Δ\left( 27\right) \otimes Z_{4}\otimes Z_{8}\otimes Z_{14}$ discrete group at very high energy. Our model has only 14 effective free parameters, which are fitted to reproduce the experimental values of the 18 physical observables in the quark and lepton sectors. The obtained physical observables for the quark sector agree with their experimental values, whereas those ones for the lepton sector also do, only for the inverted neutrino mass hierarchy. The normal neutrino mass hierarchy scenario of the model is disfavored by the neutrino oscillation experimental data. We find an effective Majorana neutrino mass parameter of neutrinoless double beta decay of $m_{ββ}=$ 22 meV, a leptonic Dirac CP violating phase of $34^{\circ }$ and a Jarlskog invariant of about $10^{-2}$ for the inverted neutrino mass spectrum.

A novel and economical explanation for SM fermion masses and mixings

I propose the first multiscalar singlet extension of the Standard Model (SM), that generates tree level top quark and exotic fermion masses as well as one and three loop level masses for charged fermions lighter than the top quark and for light active neutrinos, respectively, without invoking electrically charged scalar fields. That model, which is based on the $S_{3}\times Z_{8}$ discrete symmetry, successfully explains the observed SM fermion mass and mixing pattern. The charged exotic fermions induce one loop level masses for charged fermions lighter than the top quark. The $Z_{8}$ charged scalar singlet $χ$ generates the observed charged fermion mass and quark mixing pattern.

A predictive $331$ model with $A_{4}$ flavour symmetry

We propose a predictive model based on the $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ gauge group supplemented by the $A_{4}\otimes Z_{3}\otimes Z_{4}\otimes Z_{6}\otimes Z_{16}$ discrete group, which successfully describes the SM fermion mass and mixing pattern. The small active neutrino masses are generated via inverse seesaw mechanism with three very light Majorana neutrinos. The observed charged fermion mass hierarchy and quark mixing pattern are originated from the breaking of the $Z_{4}\otimes Z_{6}\otimes Z_{16}$ discrete group at very high scale. The obtained values for the physical observables for both quark and lepton sectors are in excellent agreement with the experimental data. The model predicts a vanishing leptonic Dirac CP violating phase as well as an effective Majorana neutrino mass parameter of neutrinoless double beta decay, with values $m_{ββ}=$ 2 and 48 meV for the normal and the inverted neutrino mass hierarchies, respectively.

A SUSY SU(6) GUT model with Pseudo-Goldstone Higgs Doublets

We present a novel way of realizing the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson mechanism at all orders in perturbation theory, for the doublet-triplet splitting in supersymmetric grand unified theories. The global symmetries of the Higgs sector are attributed to a non-vectorlike Higgs content, which is consistent with unbroken supersymmetry in a scenario with flat extra dimensions and branes. We also show how in such a model one can naturally obtain a realistic pattern for the Standard Model fermion masses and mixings.

Fermion mass and mixing pattern in a minimal T7 flavor 331 model

We present a model based on the $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ gauge symmetry having an extra $T_{7}\otimes Z_{2}\otimes Z_{3}\otimes Z_{14} $ flavor group, which successfully describes the observed SM fermion mass and mixing pattern. In this framework, the light active neutrino masses arise via double seesaw mechanism and the observed charged fermion mass and quark mixing hierarchy is a consequence of the $Z_{2}\otimes Z_{3}\otimes Z_{14}$ symmetry breaking at very high energy. In our minimal $T_{7}$ flavor 331 model, the spectrum of neutrinos includes very light active neutrinos as well as heavy and very heavy sterile neutrinos. The model has in total 16 effective free parameters, which are fitted to reproduce the experimental values of the 18 physical observables in the quark and lepton sectors. The obtained physical observables for both quark and lepton sectors are compatible with their experimental values. The model predicts the effective Majorana neutrino mass parameter of neutrinoless double beta decay to be $% m_{ββ}=$ 3 and 40 meV for the normal and the inverted neutrino spectrum, respectively. Furthermore, our model features a vanishing leptonic Dirac CP violating phase.

Fermion masses and mixings in the 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos based on the $S_3$ flavor symmetry

We propose a 3-3-1 model where the $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ symmetry is extended by $S_{3}\otimes Z_{3}\otimes Z_{3}^{\prime }\otimes Z_{8}\otimes Z_{16}$ and the scalar spectrum is enlarged by extra $% SU(3)_{L}$ singlet scalar fields. The model successfully describes the observed SM fermion mass and mixing pattern. In this framework, the light active neutrino masses arise via an inverse seesaw mechanism and the observed charged fermion mass and quark mixing hierarchy is a consequence of the $Z_{3}\otimes Z_{3}^{\prime }\otimes Z_{8}\otimes Z_{16}$ symmetry breaking at very high energy. The obtained physical observables for both quark and lepton sectors are compatible with their experimental values. The model predicts the effective Majorana neutrino mass parameter of neutrinoless double beta decay to be $m_{ββ}=$ 4 and 48 meV for the normal and the inverted neutrino spectra, respectively. Furthermore, we found a leptonic Dirac CP violating phase close to $\frac{π}{2}$ and a Jarlskog invariant close to about $3\times 10^{-2}$ for both normal and inverted neutrino mass hierarchy.

LHC diphoton 750 GeV resonance as an indication of $SU(3)_c\times SU(3)_L\times U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry

The LHC collaborations ATLAS and CMS recently reported on the excess of the events in the diphoton final states at the invariant mass of about $750~ \text{GeV}$. In this article we speculate on the possibility that the excess arises from the neutral CP-even component $ϕ$ of the scalar triplet $ Φ$ of the $SU(3)_{c}\times SU(3)_{L}\times U(1)_{X}$ $(3\text{-}3\text{-} 1)$ model that has a $U(1)_{X}$ charge equal to $X=-1/3$ and acquires a vacuum expectation value larger than the electroweak symmetry breaking scale. The interactions of the scalar field $ϕ$ to the photon- and gluon-pairs are mediated by the virtual vector-like fermions which appear as components of the anomaly-free chiral fermion representations of the $3\text{ -}3\text{-}1$ gauge group.

The $750\,\text{GeV}$ diphoton resonance in the light of a 2HDM with $S_3$ flavour symmetry

Very recently we proposed a predictive 2 Higgs Doublet Model with $S_{3}$ flavour symmetry that successfully accounts for fermion masses and mixings. In this letter, motivated by the $750$ GeV Higgs diphoton resonance recently reported by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations, we modify this model by adding exotic top partners with electric charge $\frac{5}{3}$ and a electrically charged scalar singlet. These exotic top partners decay into a charged scalar singlet and the SM up type quarks, whereas the charged scalar singlet will mainly decay into SM up and down type quarks. This simple modification enables our model to successfully account for the Higgs diphoton excess at $750\,\text{GeV}$ provided that the exotic quark masses are in the range $[1,2]$ TeV, for $O(1)$ exotic quark Yukawa couplings.

The $Δ(27)$ flavor 3-3-1 model with neutral leptons

We build the first 3-3-1 model based on the $Δ(27)$ discrete group symmetry, consistent with fermion masses and mixings. In the model under consideration, the neutrino masses are generated from a combination of type-I and type-II seesaw mechanisms mediated by three heavy right-handed Majorana neutrinos and three $SU(3)_{L}$ scalar antisextets, respectively. Furthermore, from the consistency of the leptonic mixing angles with their experimental values, we obtain a non-vanishing leptonic Dirac CP violating phase of $-\frac{π}{2}$. Our model features an effective Majorana neutrino mass parameter of neutrinoless double beta decay, with values $m_{ββ}=$ 10 and 18 meV for the normal and the inverted neutrino mass hierarchies, respectively.

$S_3$ discrete group as a source of the quark mass and mixing pattern in $331$ models

We propose a model based on the $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ gauge symmetry with an extra $S_{3}\otimes Z_{2}\otimes Z_{4}\otimes Z_{12}$ discrete group, which successfully accounts for the SM quark mass and mixing pattern. The observed hierarchy of the SM quark masses and quark mixing matrix elements arises from the $Z_{4}$ and $Z_{12}$ symmetries, which are broken at very high scale by the $SU(3)_{L}$ scalar singlets ($σ$,$ζ$) and $τ$, charged under these symmetries, respectively. The Cabbibo mixing arises from the down type quark sector whereas the up quark sector generates the remaining quark mixing angles. The obtained magnitudes of the CKM matrix elements, the CP violating phase and the Jarlskog invariant are in agreement with the experimental data.

Adjoint $SU(5)$ GUT model with $T_{7}$ flavor symmetry

We propose an adjoint $SU(5)$ GUT model with a $T_{7}$ family symmetry and an extra $Z_{2}\otimes Z_{3}\otimes Z_{4}\otimes Z_{4}^{\prime }\otimes Z_{12}$ discrete group, that successfully describes the prevailing Standard Model fermion mass and mixing pattern. The observed hierarchy of the charged fermion masses and the quark mixing angles arises from the $Z_{3}\otimes Z_{4}\otimes Z_{12}$ symmetry breaking, which occurs near the GUT scale. The light active neutrino masses are generated by type-I and type-III seesaw mechanisms mediated by the fermionic $SU(5)$ singlet and the adjoint $\mathbf{24}$-plet. The model predicts the effective Majorana neutrino mass parameter of neutrinoless double beta decay to be $m_{ββ}=$ 4 and 50 meV for the normal and the inverted neutrino spectra, respectively. We construct several benchmark scenarios, which lead to $SU(5)$ gauge coupling unification and are compatible with the known phenomenological constraints originating from the lightness of neutrinos, proton decay, dark matter, etc. These scenarios contain TEV-scale colored fields, which could give rise to a visible signal or be stringently constrained at the LHC.

Composite Resonances effects on EWPT and Higgs diphoton decay rate

In scenarios of strongly coupled electroweak symmetry breaking, heavy composite particles of different spin and parity may arise and cause observable effects on signals that appear at loop levels. The recently observed process of Higgs to $γγ$ at the LHC is one of such signals. We study the new constraints that are imposed on composite models from $H\to γγ$, together with the existing constraints from the high precision electroweak tests. We use an effective chiral Lagrangian to describe the effective theory that contains the Standard Model spectrum and the extra composites below the electroweak scale. Considering the effective theory cutoff at $Λ= 4πv \sim 3 $ TeV, consistency with the $T$ and $S$ parameters and the newly observed $H\to γγ$ can be found for a rather restricted range of masses of vector and axial-vector composites from $1.5$ TeV to $1.7$ TeV and $1.8$ TeV to $1.9$ TeV, respectively, and only provided a non-standard kinetic mixing between the $W^{3}$ and $B^{0}$ fields is included.

The obtained physical observables for both quark and lepton sectors are compatible with their experimental values. The model predicts the absence of leptonic Dirac CP violating phase.

Higgs $\rightarrow$ $μτ$ as an indication for $S_4$ flavor symmetry

Lepton flavor violating Higgs decays can arise in flavor symmetry models where the Higgs sector is responsible for both the electroweak and the flavor symmetry breaking. Here we advocate an $S_4$ three-Higgs-doublet model where tightly constrained flavor changing neutral currents are suppressed by a remnant $Z_3$ symmetry. A small breaking of this $Z_3$ symmetry can explain the $2.4\,σ$ excess of Higgs decay final states with a $μτ$ topology reported recently by CMS if the new neutral scalars are light. The model also predicts sizable rates for lepton flavor violating Higgs decays in the $eτ$ and $e μ$ channels because of the unifying $S_4$ flavor symmetry.

Higgs boson coupling to a new strongly interacting sector

In the framework of strongly interacting dynamics for electroweak symmetry breaking, heavy composite particles may arise and cause observable effects, as they should couple strongly to the resulting Higgs boson and affect the signals that appear at one loop level. Here we study this expected behavior, contrasting it with current experimental knowledge. We work in a simple and generic scenario where the lowest lying composite states are the Higgs scalar doublet and a massive vector triplet. We use an effective chiral Lagrangian to describe the theory below the compositeness scale $Λ$, assumed to be $4πv \simeq~3$ TeV. The effective theory contains the Standard Model spectrum and the extra composites. We determine the constraints on this scenario imposed by our current knowledge of the $Zb\bar{b}$ vertex, the $T$ and $S$ oblique parameters, and the recently measured Higgs mass and its diphoton decay rate. We found that the $T$ and $S$ parameters as well as the Higgs diphoton decay do not provide important constraints on the model. In contrast, the constraints arising from the $Zb\bar{b}$ vertex and from the Higgs mass at $126$ GeV are fulfilled only if the heavy vector resonances do not couple strongly with quarks, and at the same time the Higgs boson has a moderate but not too strong coupling to the heavy composite resonances.

Precision measurements constraints on the number of Higgs doublets

We consider an extension of the Standard Model with an arbitrary number $N$ of Higgs doublets (NHDM), and calculate their contribution to the oblique parameters $S$ and $T$. We examine the possible limitations on $N$ from precision measurements of these parameters. In view of the complexity of the general case of NHDM, we analyze several benchmark scenarios for the Higgs mass spectrum, identifying the lightest CP-even Higgs with the Higgs-like particle recently observed at the LHC with the mass of $\sim 125$ GeV. The rest of the Higgses are put above the mass scale of $\sim 600$ GeV, below which the LHC experiments do not detect any Higgs-like signals except for the former famous one. We show that, in a scenario, with all the heavy Higgses degenerate at any scale, there are no limitations on the number $N$ of the Higgs doublets. However, upper limits appear for certain not completely degenerate configurations of the heavy Higgses.

Viable textures for the fermion sector

We consider a modification of the Fukuyama-Nishiura texture and compare it to the precision quark flavour data, finding that it fits the data very well but at the cost of accidental cancelations between parameters. We then propose different viable textures for quarks, where only the Cabibbo mixing arises from the down sector, and extend to the charged leptons while constructing a complementary neutrino structure that leads to viable lepton masses and mixing.

An SU(5) grand unified model with discrete flavour symmetries

We propose a model based on the $SU(5)$ grand unification with an extra $Z_{2}\otimes Z_{2}^{\prime}\otimes Z_{2}^{\prime \prime}\otimes Z_{4}\otimes Z_{12}$ flavor symmetry, which successfully describes the observed SM fermion mass and mixing pattern. The observed quark mass and mixing pattern is caused by the $Z_{4}$ and $Z_{12}$ symmetries, which are broken at very high scale by the $SU(5)$ scalar singlets $σ$ and $χ$, charged respectively under these symmetries and which acquire VEVs at the GUT scale. The light neutrino masses are generated via a type I seesaw mechanism with three heavy Majorana neutrinos. The model has in total 17 effective free parameters, from which 2 are fixed and 15 are fitted to reproduce the experimental values of the 18 physical parameters in the quark and lepton sectors. The model predictions for both quark and lepton sectors are in excellent agreement with the experimental data.

Fermion masses and mixings in an $SU(5)$ grand unified model with an extra flavor symmetry

We propose a model based on the $SU(5)$ grand unification with an extra $A_{4}\otimes Z_{2}\otimes Z_{2}^{\prime }\otimes Z_{2}^{\prime \prime}\otimes U\left( 1\right) _{f}$ flavor symmetry, which accounts for the pattern of the SM fermion masses and mixings. The observed hierarchy of charged fermion masses and quark mixing matrix elements arises from a generalized Froggatt-Nielsen mechanism triggered by a scalar $\mathbf{24}$ representation of $SU(5)$ charged under the global $U(1)_{f}$ and acquiring a VEV at the GUT scale. The light neutrino masses are generated via a radiative seesaw mechanism with a single heavy Majorana neutrino and neutral scalars running in the loops. The model predictions for both quark and lepton sectors are in good agreement with the experimental data. The model predicts an effective Majorana neutrino mass, relevant for neutrinoless double beta decay, with values $m_{ββ}=$ 4 and 50 meV for the normal and the inverted neutrino spectrum, respectively. The model also features a suppression of CP violation in neutrino oscillations, a low scale for the heavy Majorana neutrino (few TeV) and, due to the unbroken $Z_{2}$ symmetry, a natural dark matter candidate.

Lepton masses and mixing in $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ models with a $S_3$ flavor symmetry

We propose a model based on the gauge group $SU(3)_{C}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ with an extra $S_{3}$ flavor symmetry, which accounts for the lepton masses and mixing. The small active neutrino masses are generated via a double seesaw mechanism. In this scenario, the spectrum of neutrinos presents very light, light and very heavy masses. The model predicts a quasidegenerate normal hierarchy active neutrino mass spectrum and the relation $Δm_{21}^{2}\ll Δm_{31}^{2}$ arises from effective six-dimensional operators. The obtained neutrino mixing parameters are in agreement with the neutrino oscillation experimental data. We find CP violation in neutrino oscillations with a Jarlskog invariant of about $10^{-2}$.

The Effect of Composite Resonances on Higgs decay into two photons

In scenarios of strongly coupled electroweak symmetry breaking, heavy composite particles of different spin and parity may arise and cause observable effects on signals that appear at loop levels. The recently observed process of Higgs to $γγ$ at the LHC is one of such signals. We study the new constraints that are imposed on composite models from $H\to γγ$, together with the existing constraints from the high precision electroweak tests. We use an effective chiral Lagrangian to describe the effective theory that contains the Standard Model spectrum and the extra composites below the electroweak scale. Lepton masses and mixings in a $A_{4}$ multi-Higgs model with radiative seesaw mechanism

We propose a renormalizable multi-Higgs model with $A_{4}\otimes Z_{2}\otimes Z^{\prime}_{2}$ symmetry, accounting for the experimental deviation from the tribimaximal mixing pattern of the neutrino mixing matrix. In this framework we study the charged lepton and neutrino masses and mixings. The light neutrino masses are generated via a radiative seesaw mechanism, which involves a single heavy Majorana neutrino and neutral scalars running in the loops. The obtained neutrino mixings and mass squared splittings are in good agreement with the neutrino oscillation experimental data for both normal and inverted hierarchy. The model predicts an effective Majorana neutrino mass $m_{ββ}=$ 4 meV and 50 meV for the normal and the inverted neutrino spectrum, respectively. The model also features a suppression of CP violation in neutrino oscillations, a low scale for the heavy Majorana neutrino (few TeV) and, due to the unbroken $Z_2$ symmetry, a natural dark matter candidate.

Radiative seesaw-type mechanism of quark masses in SU(3\)_{C}\otimes SU(3\)_{L}\otimes U\(1\)_{X}$

We take up again the study of the mass spectrum of the quark sector in a model with gauge symmetry $SU(3)_{c}\otimes SU(3)_{L}\otimes U(1)_{X}$ (331). In a special type II-like 331 model, we obtain specific zero-texture mass matrices for the quarks which predict four massless quarks ($u,c,d,s$) and two massive quarks ($b,t$) at the electroweak scale ($\sim $ GeV). By considering the mixing between the SM quarks and new exotic quarks at large scales predicted by the model, we find that a third quark (associated to the charm quark) acquires a mass. The remaining light quarks ($u,d,s$) get small masses ($\sim$ MeV) via radiative corrections.

Top quark effects in composite vector pair production at the LHC

In the context of a strongly coupled Electroweak Symmetry Breaking, composite light scalar singlet and composite triplet of heavy vectors may arise from an unspecified strong dynamics and the interactions among themselves and with the Standard Model gauge bosons and fermions can be described by a $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R/SU(2)_{L+R}$ Effective Chiral Lagrangian. In this framework, the production of the $V^{+}V^{-}$ and $V^{0}V^{0}$ final states at the LHC by gluon fusion mechanism is studied in the region of parameter space consistent with the unitarity constraints in the elastic channel of longitudinal gauge boson scattering and in the inelastic scattering of two longitudinal Standard Model gauge bosons into Standard Model fermions pairs. The expected rates of same-sign di-lepton and tri-lepton events from the decay of the $V^{0}V^{0}$ final state are computed and their corresponding backgrounds are estimated. It is of remarkable relevance that the $V^{0}V^{0}$ final state can only be produced at the LHC via gluon fusion mechanism since this state is absent in the Drell-Yan process. It is also found that the $V^{+}V^{-}$ final state production cross section via gluon fusion mechanism is comparable with the $V^{+}V^{-}$ Drell-Yan production cross section. The comparison of the $V^{0}V^{0}$ and $V^{+}V^{-}$ total cross sections will be crucial for distinguishing the different models since the vector pair production is sensitive to many couplings. This will also be useful to determine if the heavy vectors are only composite vectors or are gauge vectors of a spontaneously broken gauge symmetry.

Composite Vectors and Scalars in Theories of Electroweak Symmetry Breaking

In the context of a strongly coupled Electroweak Symmetry Breaking, composite triplet of heavy vectors belonging to the $SU(2)_{L+R}$ adjoint representation and a composite scalar singlet under $SU(2)_{L+R}$ may arise from a new strong interaction invariant under the global $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R$ symmetry, which is spontaneously broken down to $SU(2)_{L+R}$. This thesis consists of two parts. The first part is devoted to the study of the heavy composite vector pair production at the LHC via Vector Boson Fusion and Drell-Yan annihilation under the assumption that the interactions among these heavy vector states and with the Standard Model gauge bosons are described by a $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R/SU(2)_{L+R}$ Effective Chiral Lagrangian. The expected rates of multi-lepton events from the decay of the composite vectors are also given. The second part studies the associated production at the LHC of a composite vector with a composite scalar by Vector Boson Fusion and Drell-Yan annihilation in the framework of a $SU(2)_{L}\times SU(2)_{R}/SU(2)_{L+R}$ Effective Chiral Lagrangian with massive spin one fields and one singlet light scalar. The expected rates of same sign di-lepton and tri-lepton events from the decay of the composite vector and composite scalar final state are computed. The connection of the Effective Chiral Lagrangians with suitable gauge models is elucidated.
