Attention Concatenation Volume for Accurate and Efficient Stereo Matching

Stereo matching is a fundamental building block for many vision and robotics applications. An informative and concise cost volume representation is vital for stereo matching of high accuracy and efficiency. In this paper, we present a novel cost volume construction method which generates attention weights from correlation clues to suppress redundant information and enhance matching-related information in the concatenation volume. To generate reliable attention weights, we propose multi-level adaptive patch matching to improve the distinctiveness of the matching cost at different disparities even for textureless regions. The proposed cost volume is named attention concatenation volume (ACV) which can be seamlessly embedded into most stereo matching networks, the resulting networks can use a more lightweight aggregation network and meanwhile achieve higher accuracy, e.g. using only 1/25 parameters of the aggregation network can achieve higher accuracy for GwcNet. Furthermore, we design a highly accurate network (ACVNet) based on our ACV, which achieves state-of-the-art performance on several benchmarks.

Depth-Assisted ResiDualGAN for Cross-Domain Aerial Images Semantic Segmentation

Unsupervised domain adaptation (UDA) is an approach to minimizing domain gap. Generative methods are common approaches to minimizing the domain gap of aerial images which improves the performance of the downstream tasks, e.g., cross-domain semantic segmentation. For aerial images, the digital surface model (DSM) is usually available in both the source domain and the target domain. Depth information in DSM brings external information to generative models. However, little research utilizes it. In this paper, depth-assisted ResiDualGAN (DRDG) is proposed where depth supervised loss (DSL), and depth cycle consistency loss (DCCL) are used to bring depth information into the generative model. Experimental results show that DRDG reaches state-of-the-art accuracy between generative methods in cross-domain semantic segmentation tasks.

Exceptional cycles in triangular matrix algebras

An exceptional cycle in a triangulated category with Serre functor is a generalization of a spherical object. Suppose that $A$ and $B$ are Gorenstein algebras, given a perfect exceptional $n$-cycle $E_*$ in $K^b(A\mbox{-}{\rm proj})$ and a perfect exceptional $m$-cycle $F_*$ in $K^b(B\mbox{-}{\rm proj})$, we construct an $A$-$B$-bimodule $N$, and prove the product $E_*\boxtimes F_*$ is an exceptional $(n+m-1)$-cycle in $K^b(Λ\mbox{-}{\rm proj})$, where $Λ=\begin{pmatrix}A & N\\ 0 & B \end{pmatrix}$. Using this construction, one gets many new exceptional cycles which is unknown before for certain class of algebras.

Charged particles interaction in both a finite volume and a uniform magnetic field II: topological and analytic properties of a magnetic system

In present work, we discuss some topological features of charged particles interacting a uniform magnetic field in a finite volume. The edge state solutions are presented, as a signature of non-trivial topological systems, the energy spectrum of edge states show up in the gap between allowed energy bands. By treating total momentum of two-body system as a continuous distributed parameter in complex plane, the analytic properties of solutions of finite volume system in a magnetic field is also discussed.

Nuclear reactions in artificial traps

Coupled-channel two-particle systems bound by a harmonic trap are discussed in the present paper. We derive the formula that relates the energy levels of such trapped systems to phase shifts and inelasticity of coupled-channel reactions. The formula makes it possible to extract amplitudes of inelastic nuclear reactions from ab initio calculations of discrete levels of many-nucleon systems in a harmonic trap.

A Deep-learning-based Method for PIR-based Multi-person Localization

Device-free localization (DFL) based on pyroelectric infrared (PIR) sensors has attracted much attention due to its advantages of low cost, low power consumption, and privacy protection. However, most existing PIR-based DFL methods require high deployment density to achieve high localization accuracy. Recently, a few works proposed that the deployment density can be reduced by deeply analyzing the analog output of PIR sensors. However, these methods can not well handle the localization task in multi-person scenarios yet. In this paper, we propose a novel neural network for PIR-based multi-person localization, which appropriately leverages a series of domain knowledge. Specifically, the proposed network consists of two modules: one is for determining the number of persons and another is for determining their locations. Meanwhile, the module of person counting is further designed as a two-stage network: one stage is for signal separation and another is for single-person detection. The module for localization is also designed as a two-stage network: one stage is for signal extraction and another is for single-person localization. Through the above methods, we succeed to remarkably reduce the deployment density of the traditional PIR-based method by about 76\%, while maintaining the localization accuracy.

Generator and Critic: A Deep Reinforcement Learning Approach for Slate Re-ranking in E-commerce

The slate re-ranking problem considers the mutual influences between items to improve user satisfaction in e-commerce, compared with the point-wise ranking. Previous works either directly rank items by an end to end model, or rank items by a score function that trades-off the point-wise score and the diversity between items. However, there are two main existing challenges that are not well studied: (1) the evaluation of the slate is hard due to the complex mutual influences between items of one slate; (2) even given the optimal evaluation, searching the optimal slate is challenging as the action space is exponentially large. In this paper, we present a novel Generator and Critic slate re-ranking approach, where the Critic evaluates the slate and the Generator ranks the items by the reinforcement learning approach. We propose a Full Slate Critic (FSC) model that considers the real impressed items and avoids the impressed bias of existing models. For the Generator, to tackle the problem of large action space, we propose a new exploration reinforcement learning algorithm, called PPO-Exploration. Experimental results show that the FSC model significantly outperforms the state of the art slate evaluation methods, and the PPO-Exploration algorithm outperforms the existing reinforcement learning methods substantially. The Generator and Critic approach improves both the slate efficiency(4% gmv and 5% number of orders) and diversity in live experiments on one of the largest e-commerce websites in the world.

Multi-$π^+$ systems in finite volume

We present a formalism to describe two-$π^+$ and three-$π^+$ dynamics in finite volume, the formalism is based on combination of a variational approach and the Faddeev method. Both pair-wise and three-body interactions are included in the presentation. Impacts of finite lattice spacing and the cubic lattice symmetry are also discussed. To illustrate application of the formalism, the pair-wise contact interaction that resembles the leading order interaction terms in chiral effective theory is used to analyze recent lattice results.

Myth of scattering in finite volume

In this notes, we illustrate why the infinite volume scattering amplitude is in fact dispensable when it comes to formulating few-body quantization condition in finite volume. Only subprocess interactions or interactions associated subprocess amplitudes are essential and fundamental ingredients of quantization conditions. After these ingredients are determined, infinite volume scattering amplitude can be computed separately. The underlying reasons are rooted in facts that (1) the final physical process is generated by all subprocess or interactions among particles; (2) the ultimate goal of quantization condition in finite volume is to find stationary solutions of few-body system. That is to say, in the end, it all comes down to the solving of eigenvalue problem, $\hat{H} | n \rangle = E_n | n \rangle $.

Propagation of particles on a torus

In this study, based on the variational principle and Faddeev method, we present a general framework for finding the propagating solutions of multiple interacting particles on a torus. Two different versions of multiparticle secular equations are presented. Version one shows how the propagating solutions on a torus and the infinite volume dynamics are connected. The second version may be more suitable and robust for the task of lattice quantum chromodynamics data analysis. The proposed formalism may also be useful for studying the effects of few-body interactions on the electronic band structure in condensed matter physics.

ScenarioSA: A Large Scale Conversational Database for Interactive Sentiment Analysis

Interactive sentiment analysis is an emerging, yet challenging, subtask of the sentiment analysis problem. It aims to discover the affective state and sentimental change of each person in a conversation. Existing sentiment analysis approaches are insufficient in modelling the interactions among people. However, the development of new approaches are critically limited by the lack of labelled interactive sentiment datasets. In this paper, we present a new conversational emotion database that we have created and made publically available, namely ScenarioSA. We manually label 2,214 multi-turn English conversations collected from natural contexts. In comparison with existing sentiment datasets, ScenarioSA (1) covers a wide range of scenarios; (2) describes the interactions between two speakers; and (3) reflects the sentimental evolution of each speaker over the course of a conversation. Finally, we evaluate various state-of-the-art algorithms on ScenarioSA, demonstrating the need of novel interactive sentiment analysis models and the potential of ScenarioSA to facilitate the development of such models.

Threshold expansion formula of $N$-boson in finite volume from variational approach

In present work, we show how the threshold expansion formula of $N$ identical bosons in finite volume may be derived by iterations of Faddeev-type coupled dynamical equations. The energy shift of $N$-boson system near threshold is dominated by zero momenta mode of $N$-body amplitudes with all particles nearly static. The dominant zero momenta mode and sub-leading non-zero momenta mode contributions are connected through finite volume Faddeev-type coupled dynamical equations. Eliminating non-zero momenta modes by iterations ultimately yields an analytic expression that can be solved by threshold expansion.

Hybrid evolutionary algorithm with extreme machine learning fitness function evaluation for two-stage capacitated facility location problem

This paper considers the two-stage capacitated facility location problem (TSCFLP) in which products manufactured in plants are delivered to customers via storage depots. Customer demands are satisfied subject to limited plant production and limited depot storage capacity. The objective is to determine the locations of plants and depots in order to minimize the total cost including the fixed cost and transportation cost. A hybrid evolutionary algorithm (HEA) with genetic operations and local search is proposed. To avoid the expensive calculation of fitness of population in terms of computational time, the HEA uses extreme machine learning to approximate the fitness of most of the individuals. Moreover, two heuristics based on the characteristic of the problem is incorporated to generate a good initial population. Computational experiments are performed on two sets of test instances from the recent literature. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated and analyzed. Compared with the state-of-the-art genetic algorithm, the proposed algorithm can find the optimal or near-optimal solutions in a reasonable computational time.

Dispersive approaches for three-particle final states interaction

In this work, we present different representations of Khuri-Treiman equation, the advantage and disadvantage of each representations are discussed. Using a toy model for scattering amplitude, we study the sensitivity of solution of KT equation to the left hand cut of this toy model and to the different approximate methods. At last, we briefly discuss Watson's theorem when three particles in final states are involved.

Three-body Final State Interaction in $η\to 3 π$

We present an unitary dispersive model for the $η\to 3 π$ decay process based upon the Khuri-Treiman equations which are solved by means of the Pasquier inversion method. The description of the hadronic final-state interactions for the $η\to 3π$ decay is essential to reproduce the available data and to understand the existing discrepancies between Dalitz plot parameters from experiment and chiral perturbation theory. Our approach incorporates substraction constants that are fixed by fitting the recent high-statistics WASA-at-COSY data for $η\to π^+ π^- π^0$. Based on the parameters obtained we predict the slope parameter for the neutral channel to be $α=-0.022\pm 0.004$. Through matching to next-to-leading order chiral perturbation theory we estimate the quark mass double ratio to be $Q=21.4 \pm 0.4$.

Analytic continuation of Pasquier inversion representation of Khuri-Treiman equation

The single integral form of Pasquier inversion representation of Khuri-Treiman (KT) equation presents great advantages for describing final state interaction of three-body decay or production processes. However, the original form of Pasquier inversion representation is only given in decay region and regions below. For the regions above, analytic continuation of original form is required. Because of non-trivial nature of analytic continuation procedure, it is the purpose of this work to obtain a well-defined Pasquier inversion representation of KT equation for all the energy range.

Irradiation effects in the Ni-17Mo-7Cr alloy bombarded with MeV Au ions

Irradiation effects in Ni-17Mo-7Cr alloy, which is an newly developed structural material for molten salt reactor (MSR), have been systematically investigated by using 3MeV Au ions at different fluences, corresponding to dpa number (displacement per atom) of 1~ 30. GIXRD measurement indicates that the microstrain of the irradiated samples increased from 0.14% to 0.22% as dpa increased from 1 to 30. In the meanwhile, nanoindentation results reveal the Ni-17Mo-7Cr alloy underwent radiation-induced hardening first and then softening at dpa of 30. The swelling rate of Ni-17Mo-7Cr alloy was found around 1.3% at 30 dpa, which means only 0.04% per dpa. Besides, Raman spectra shows that carbon segregation appeared after Au ions irradiation. Our results are very helpful for understanding irradiation damages in Nickel-base alloys, especially for those in purpose of being used in future MSR nuclear energy system.

Scheduling step-deteriorating jobs to minimize the total weighted tardiness on a single machine

This paper addresses the scheduling problem of minimizing the total weighted tardiness on a single machine with step-deteriorating jobs. With the assumption of deterioration, the job processing times are modeled by step functions of job starting times and pre-specified job deteriorating dates. The introduction of step-deteriorating jobs makes a single machine total weighted tardiness problem more intractable. The computational complexity of this problem under consideration was not determined. In this study, it is firstly proved to be strongly NP-hard. Then a mixed integer programming model is derived for solving the problem instances optimally. In order to tackle large-sized problems, seven dispatching heuristic procedures are developed for near-optimal solutions. Meanwhile, the solutions delivered by the proposed heuristic are further improved by a pair-wise swap movement. Computational results are presented to reveal the performance of all proposed approaches.

The discharge characteristics of the DUHOCAMIS with a high magnetic bottle-shaped field

For the purpose to produce high intensity, multiply charged metal ion beams, the DUHOCAMIS (dual hollow cathode ion source for metal ions) was derived from the hot cathode Penning ion source combined with the hollow cathode sputtering experiments in 2007. It was interesting to investigate the behavior of this discharge geometry in a stronger magnetic bottle-shaped field. So a new test bench for DUHOCAMIS with a high magnetic bottle-shaped field up to 0.6 T has been set up at Peking University, on which have been made primary experiments in connection with discharge characteristics of the source. The experiments with magnetic fields from 0.13 T to 0.52 T have shown that the magnetic flux densities are very sensitive to the discharge behavior: discharge curves and ion spectra. It has been found that the slope of discharge curves in a very wide range can be controlled by changing the magnetic field as well as regulated by adjusting cathode heating power. On the other hand, by comparison of discharge curves between dual hollow cathode discharge (DHCD) mode and PIG discharge mode, it was found a much stronger magnetic effect occurred on DHCD mode. In this paper, the new test bench with ion source structure is described in detail; and main experimental results are presented and discussed, including the effects of cathode heating power and magnetic flux density on discharge characteristics, also the ion spectra. The effects of the magnetic field on the source operating are emphasized, and a unique behavior of the DUHOCAMIS operating in the high magnetic field is expected and discussed especially.

A general variable neighborhood search for single-machine total tardiness scheduling problem with step-deteriorating jobs

In this article, we study a single-machine scheduling problem of minimizing the total tardiness for a set of independent jobs. The processing time of a job is modeled as a step function of its starting time and a specific deteriorating date. A mixed integer programming model was applied to the problem and validated. Since the problem is known to be NP-hard, we proposed a heuristic named simple weighted search procedure (SWSP) and a general variable neighborhood search algorithm (GVNS). A perturbation procedure with 3-opt is embedded within the GVNS process in order to explore broader spaces. Extensive numerical experiments are carried out on some randomly generated test instances so as to investigate the performance of the proposed algorithms. By comparing to the results of the CPLEX optimization solver, the heuristic SWSP and the standard variable neighborhood search, it is shown that the proposed GVNS algorithm can provide better solutions within a reasonable running time.

A hybrid generalized extremal optimization algorithm for the quay crane scheduling problem with interference constraints

The quay crane scheduling problem (QCSP) determines the handling sequence of tasks at ship bays by a set of cranes assigned to a container vessel such that the vessel's service time is minimized. A number of heuristics or meta-heuristics have been proposed to obtain the near-optimal solutions to overcome the NP-hardness of the problem. In this article, the idea of generalized extremal optimization (GEO) is adapted to solve the QCSP with respect to various interference constraints. The resulted GEO is termed as the modified GEO. A randomized searching method for neighboring task-to-QC assignments to an incumbent task-to-QC assignment is developed in executing the modified GEO. In addition, a unidirectional search decoding scheme is employed to transform a task-to-QC assignment to an active quay crane schedule. The effectiveness of the developed GEO is tested on a suite of benchmark problems introduced by \citet{KimPark2004}. Compared with other well known existing approaches, the experiment results show that the proposed modified GEO is capable of obtaining the optimal or near-optimal solution in reasonable time, especially for large-sized problems.

Coupled-channel scattering in 1+1 dimensional lattice model

Based on the Lippmann-Schwinger equation approach, a generalized Lüscher's formula in 1+1 dimensions for two particles scattering in both the elastic and coupled-channel cases in moving frames is derived. A 2D coupled-channel scattering lattice model is presented, the model represents a two-coupled-channel resonant scattering scalars system. The Monte Carlo simulation is performed on finite lattices and in various moving frames. The 2D generalized Lüscher's formula is used to extract the scattering amplitudes for the coupled-channel system from the discrete finite-volume spectrum.

Parallel machine scheduling with step deteriorating jobs and setup times by a hybrid discrete cuckoo search algorithm

This article considers the parallel machine scheduling problem with step-deteriorating jobs and sequence-dependent setup times. The objective is to minimize the total tardiness by determining the allocation and sequence of jobs on identical parallel machines. In this problem, the processing time of each job is a step function dependent upon its starting time. An individual extended time is penalized when the starting time of a job is later than a specific deterioration date. The possibility of deterioration of a job makes the parallel machine scheduling problem more challenging than ordinary ones. A mixed integer programming model for the optimal solution is derived. Due to its NP-hard nature, a hybrid discrete cuckoo search algorithm is proposed to solve this problem. In order to generate a good initial swarm, a modified heuristic named the MBHG is incorporated into the initialization of population. Several discrete operators are proposed in the random walk of Lévy Flights and the crossover search. Moreover, a local search procedure based on variable neighborhood descent is integrated into the algorithm as a hybrid strategy in order to improve the quality of elite solutions. Computational experiments are executed on two sets of randomly generated test instances. The results show that the proposed hybrid algorithm can yield better solutions in comparison with the commercial solver CPLEX with one hour time limit, discrete cuckoo search algorithm and the existing variable neighborhood search algorithm.

The coupled-channel scattering on a torus

Based on the Hamiltonian formalism approach, a generalized Lüscher's formula for two particle scattering in both the elastic and coupled-channel cases in moving frames is derived from a relativistic Lippmann-Schwinger equation. Some strategies for extracting scattering amplitudes for a coupled-channel system from the discrete finite-volume spectrum are discussed and illustrated with a toy model of two-channel resonant scattering. This formalism will, in the near future, be used to extract information about hadron scattering from lattice QCD computations.

Toward the excited isoscalar meson spectrum from lattice QCD

We report on the extraction of an excited spectrum of isoscalar mesons using lattice QCD. Calculations on several lattice volumes are performed with a range of light quark masses corresponding to pion masses down to about 400 MeV. The distillation method enables us to evaluate the required disconnected contributions with high statistical precision for a large number of meson interpolating fields. We find relatively little mixing between light and strange in most JPC channels; one notable exception is the pseudoscalar sector where the approximate SU(3)F octet, singlet structure of the η, η' is reproduced. We extract exotic JPC states, identified as hybrid mesons in which an excited gluonic field is coupled to a color-octet qqbar pair, along with non-exotic hybrid mesons embedded in a qqbar-like spectrum.

Amplitudes for the analysis of the decay $J/ψ\to K^{+} K^{-} π^0$

We construct an analytical model for two channel, two-body scattering amplitudes, and then apply it in the description of the three-body $J/ψ\to K^+K^-π^0$ decay. In the construction of the partial wave amplitudes, we combine the low energy resonance region with the Regge asymptotic behavior determined from direct two-body production. We find that resonance production in the $Kπ$ channel in $J/ψ$ decays seems to differ from that observed in direct $Kπ$ production, while the mass distribution in the $K\bar K$ channel may be compatible.

The role of P-wave inelasticity in J/psi to pi+pi-pi0

We discuss the importance of inelasticity in the P-wave pi pi amplitude on the Dalitz distribution of 3pi events in J/psi decay. The inelasticity, which becomes sizable for pi pi masses above 1.4 GeV, is attributed to KK to pi pi rescattering. We construct an analytical model for the two-channel scattering amplitude and use it to solve the dispersion relation for the isobar amplitudes that parametrize the J/psi decay. We present comparisons between theoretical predictions for the Dalitz distribution of 3pi events with available experimental data.
