Zonotopal algebras, orbit harmonics, and Donaldson-Thomas invariants of symmetric quivers

We apply the method of orbit harmonics to the set of break divisors and orientable divisors on graphs to obtain the central and external zonotopal algebras respectively. We then relate a construction of Efimov in the context of cohomological Hall algebras to the central zonotopal algebra of a graph $G_{Q,γ}$ constructed from a symmetric quiver $Q$ with enough loops and a dimension vector $γ$. This provides a concrete combinatorial perspective on the former work, allowing us to identify the quantum Donaldson-Thomas invariants as the Hilbert series of the space of $S_γ$-invariants of the Postnikov-Shapiro slim subgraph space attached to $G_{Q,γ}$. The connection with orbit harmonics in turn allows us to give a manifestly nonnegative combinatorial interpretation to numerical Donaldson-Thomas invariants as the number of $S_γ$-orbits under the permutation action on the set of break divisors on $G_{Q,γ}$. We conclude with several representation-theoretic consequences, whose combinatorial ramifications may be of independent interest.

Momentum map images of representation spaces of quivers

We consider the base change action on real or complex representation spaces of quivers and the associated momentum map for a maximal compact subgroup of the base change group, as introduced by A. King. We give an explicit description of the momentum map image in terms of recursively defined inequalities on eigenvalues of Hermitian operators. Moreover, we characterize when the momentum map image is maximal possible, respectively of positive volume.

Knots-quivers correspondence

We introduce and explore the relation between knot invariants and quiver representation theory, which follows from the identification of quiver quantum mechanics in D-brane systems representing knots. We identify various structural properties of quivers associated to knots, and identify such quivers explicitly in many examples, including some infinite families of knots, all knots up to 6 crossings, and some knots with thick homology. Moreover, based on these properties, we derive previously unknown expressions for colored HOMFLY-PT polynomials and superpolynomials for various knots. For all knots, for which we identify the corresponding quivers, the LMOV conjecture for all symmetric representations (i.e. integrality of relevant BPS numbers) is automatically proved.

Donaldson-Thomas invariants versus intersection cohomology of quiver moduli

The main result of this paper is the statement that the Hodge theoretic Donaldson-Thomas invariant for a quiver with zero potential and a generic stability condition agrees with the compactly supported intersection cohomology of the closure of the stable locus inside the associated coarse moduli space of semistable quiver representations. In fact, we prove an even stronger result relating the Donaldson-Thomas "function" to the intersection complex. The proof of our main result relies on a relative version of the integrality conjecture in Donaldson-Thomas theory. This will be the topic of the second part of the paper, where the relative integrality conjecture will be proven in the motivic context.

Schubert Quiver Grassmannians

Quiver Grassmannians are projective varieties parametrizing subrepresentations of given dimension in a quiver representation. We define a class of quiver Grassmannians generalizing those which realize degenerate flag varieties. We show that each irreducible component of the quiver Grassmannians in question is isomorphic to a Schubert variety. We give an explicit description of the set of irreducible components, identify all the Schubert varieties arising, and compute the Poincaré polynomials of these quiver Grassmannians.

Homological approach to the Hernandez-Leclerc construction and quiver varieties

In a previous paper the authors have attached to each Dynkin quiver an associative algebra. The definition is categorical and the algebra is used to construct desingularizations of arbitrary quiver Grassmannians. In the present paper we prove that this algebra is isomorphic to an algebra constructed by Hernandez-Leclerc defined combinatorially and used to describe certain graded Nakajima quiver varieties. This approach is used to get an explicit realization of the orbit closures of representations of Dynkin quivers as affine quotients.

Moduli spaces of stable pairs and non-abelian zeta functions of curves via wall-crossing

In this paper we study and relate the non-abelian zeta functions introduced by Weng and invariants of the moduli spaces of arbitrary rank stable pairs over curves. We prove a wall-crossing formula for the latter invariants and obtain an explicit formula for these invariants in terms of the motive of a curve. Previously, formulas for these invariants were known only for rank 2 due to Thaddeus and for rank 3 due to Muñoz. Using these results we obtain an explicit formula for the non-abelian zeta functions, we check the uniformity conjecture by Weng for the ranks 2 and 3, and we prove the counting miracle conjecture.

Degenerate flag varieties: moment graphs and Schröder numbers

We study geometric and combinatorial properties of the degenerate flag varieties of type A. These varieties are acted upon by the automorphism group of a certain representation of a type A quiver, containing a maximal torus T. Using the group action, we describe the moment graphs, encoding the zero- and one-dimensional T-orbits. We also study the smooth and singular loci of the degenerate flag varieties. We show that the Euler characteristic of the smooth locus is equal to the large Schröder number and the Poincaré polynomial is given by a natural statistics counting the number of diagonal steps in a Schröder path. As an application we obtain a new combinatorial description of the large and small Schröder numbers and their q-analogues.

MPS degeneration formula for quiver moduli and refined GW/Kronecker correspondence

Motivated by string-theoretic arguments Manschot, Pioline and Sen discovered a new remarkable formula for the Poincare polynomial of a smooth compact moduli space of stable quiver representations which effectively reduces to the abelian case (i.e. thin dimension vectors). We first prove a motivic generalization of this formula, valid for arbitrary quivers, dimension vectors and stabilities. In the case of complete bipartite quivers we use the refined GW/Kronecker correspondence between Euler characteristics of quiver moduli and Gromov-Witten invariants to identify the MPS formula for Euler characteristics with a standard degeneration formula in Gromov-Witten theory. Finally we combine the MPS formula with localization techniques, obtaining a new formula for quiver Euler characteristics as a sum over trees, and constructing many examples of explicit correspondences between quiver representations and tropical curves.

Quiver Grassmannians and degenerate flag varieties

Quiver Grassmannians are varieties parametrizing subrepresentations of a quiver representation. It is observed that certain quiver Grassmannians for type A quivers are isomorphic to the degenerate flag varieties investigated earlier by the second named author. This leads to the consideration of a class of Grassmannians of subrepresentations of the direct sum of a projective and an injective representation of a Dynkin quiver. It is proven that these are (typically singular) irreducible normal local complete intersection varieties, which admit a group action with finitely many orbits, and a cellular decomposition. For type A quivers explicit formulas for the Euler characteristic (the median Genocchi numbers) and the Poincare polynomials are derived.

Refined GW/Kronecker correspondence

Gromov-Witten invariants of weighted projective planes and Euler characteristics of moduli spaces of representations of bipartite quivers are related via the tropical vertex, a group of formal automorphisms of a torus. On the Gromov-Witten side, this uses the work of Gross, Pandharipande and Siebert. The quiver moduli side features quiver wall-crossing formulas, functional equations for Euler characteristics, and localization techniques. We derive several explicit formulas for Gromov-Witten invariants.

B-orbits of 2-nilpotent matrices and generalizations

The orbits of the group B of upper-triangular matrices acting on 2-nilpotent complex matrices via conjugation are classified via oriented link patterns, generalizing A. Melnikov's classification of the B-orbits on upper-triangular such matrices. The orbit closures as well as the "building blocks" of minimal degenerations of orbits are described. The classification uses the theory of representations of finite-dimensional algebras. Furthermore, we initiate the study of the B-orbits on arbitrary nilpotent matrices.

Cohomology of quiver moduli, functional equations, and integrality of Donaldson-Thomas type invariants

A system of functional equations relating the Euler characteristics of moduli spaces of stable representations of quivers and the Euler characteristics of (Hilbert scheme-type) framed versions of quiver moduli is derived. This is applied to wall-crossing formulas for the Donaldson-Thomas type invariants of M. Kontsevich and Y. Soibelman, in particular confirming their integrality.
