A Potentially Detectable Gamma-Ray Line in the Fermi Galactic Center Excess -- In Light of One-Step Cascade Annihilations of Secluded (Vector) Dark Matter via the Higgs Portal

We show the presence of a potentially detectable gamma-ray line in the Fermi Galactic center excess in light of the secluded (vector) dark matter (DM) model in which the hidden scalar, nearly degenerate with DM in mass, mediates the interaction of the secluded DM with the Standard Model (SM) due to its mixing with the SM Higgs. We find that the parameter region $m_X\in[60, 132]$ GeV can provide a good fit to the Fermi Galactic center gamma-ray excess spectrum, appearing a prominent gamma-ray line with the energy $\in [30, 66]$ GeV. The best fit gives $m_X\simeq m_S \simeq 86$ GeV with a $p$-value$\, =0.42$, so that the resultant gamma-ray line, arising from the decay of the scalar mediator into $γγ$, peaks at 43 GeV. We derive constraints on the annihilation cross section from the Fermi-LAT gamma-ray line search, gamma-ray observations of the Fermi-LAT dwarf spheroidal galaxies, and Planck cosmic microwave background measurement. For the secluded vector DM model, the parameter space constrained by the current XENON1T and future LUX-ZEPLIN is shown. Finally, for the mixing angle between the Higgs sectors, we discuss its lower bound, which is required by the big bang nucleosynthesis constraint and relevant to the hidden sector decoupling temperature.

$B \to J/ψK$ Decays in QCD Factorization

The hadronic decays $B\to J/ψK(K^*)$ are interesting because experimentally they are the only color-suppressed modes which have been measured, and theoretically they are calculable by QCD factorization even the emitted meson $Jψ$ is heavy. We analyze the decay $B\to JψK$ within the framework of QCD factorization in the heavy quark limit. We show explicitly the scale and $γ_5$-scheme independence of decay amplitudes and infrared safety of nonfactorizable corrections at twist-2 order. Leading-twist contributions from the light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs) of the mesons are too small to accommodate the data; the nonfactorizable corrections to naive factorization are small and not significant. We study the twist-3 effects due to the kaon and find that the coefficient $a_2(JψK)$ is largely enhanced by the nonfactorizable spectator interactions arising from the twist-3 kaon LCDA $ϕ^K_σ$, which are formally power-suppressed but chirally, logarithmically and kinematically enhanced. Therefore, factorization breaks down at twist-3 order. Higher-twist effects of $Jψ$ are briefly discussed. Our result also resolves the long-standing sign ambiguity of $a_2(JψK)$, which turns out to be positive for its real part.

Comment on "Dark Matter with Pseudoscalar-Mediated Interactions Explains the DAMA Signal and the Galactic Center Excess"

Arina et al. have proposed the Dirac fermionic dark matter with pseudoscalar-mediated interactions to explain the Galactic Center excess, correct relic density and DAMA signal. They have assumed that contact interactions remain roughly valid in calculating scattering rates at the direct detection even when the mediator mass is the same order as the typical momentum transfer. We show that such a replacement is not suitable. Adopting the full form of interactions, we show that the gamma-ray excess allowed parameters are completely outside of the DAMA iodine 3$σ$ region, even for heavy-flavor-universal couplings, for which $m_{DM} \sim 40$ GeV in the gamma-ray excess fit. As for Higgs-like couplings, the two regions overlap for $m_a\lesssim$ 15 MeV, where long-range interactions, instead of contact interactions, occur at the DAMA.

Fermionic Dark Matter through a Light Pseudoscalar Portal: Hints from the DAMA Results

We study the fermionic dark matter (DM) particle interacting with Standard Model quarks via a light pseudoscalar mediator. We consider separately the scenarios for which the DM-pseudoscalar coupling is $CP$ conserving or $CP$ violating. We show that taking a contact interaction is not suitable, even when the mediator has a mass of the same order of magnitude as the typical momentum transfer at the direct-detection experiments, such that the allowed DAMA region is excluded or considerably modified by the correct relic density requirement. The DAMA result seems to indicate that the $CP$-violating interaction is dominant at direct searches. We find that, if the proton-to-neutron effective coupling ratio is $-60\sim -40$, the exclusion limits set by SuperCDMS, XENON100, and LUX are highly suppressed, and the DAMA signal can thus be easily reconciled with these null measurements. For this model, the allowed region determined by the DAMA signal and correct relic density can successfully satisfy the conditions required by the thermal equilibrium, big bang nucleosynthesis, and DM self-interactions. The results of future measurements on flavor physics will provide important constraints on the related models. Precise measurements performed by COUPP, PICASSO, SIMPLE and KIMS should be able to test this model in the near future.

Dark Matter Mass Constrained by the Relic Abundance, Direct Detections, and Colliders

We take into account a generic form of a Dirac fermionic dark matter (DM), which communicates with the Standard Model quarks via a scalar mediator, in a model-independent way. Four special interaction scenarios are investigated, where one is parity conserving and the other three are parity violating. Three of them result in the $v$ suppressed DM-nucleon cross sections, where $v \sim 10^{-3} c$ is the velocity of the DM in the laboratory frame. We constrain the masses of the dark matter and mediator as well as the couplings from the thermal relic abundance, and the recent results of the XENON100 direct detection and collider experiments involving the two channels: (i) monojet plus large missing transverse energy, and (ii) dijet. The current monojet constraint is not stronger than that from the requirement of the correct relic density and the null result by the XENON100 direct detection. We find that the dijet resonance measurements can exclude a large part of the parameter space $(m_χ, m_Y)$, where the couplings for the mediator coupled to the dark matter and to the quarks are small and have roughly the same magnitude. The constraint from indirect detections and diphoton resonance searches is also briefly discussed.

Revisiting charmless hadronic B decays to scalar mesons

Hadronic charmless B decays to scalar mesons are studied within the framework of QCD factorization (QCDF). Considering two different scenarios for scalar mesons above 1 GeV, we find that the data favor the scenario in which the scalars $a_0(1450)$ and $K_0^*(1430)$ are the lowest lying $q\bar q$ bound states. This in turn implies a preferred four-quark nature for light scalars below 1 GeV. Assuming $K_0^*(1430)$ being a lowest lying $q\bar s$ state, we show that the data of $B\to K_0^*(1430)η^{(')}$ and $B\to K_0^*(1430)(ρ,ω,ϕ)$ can be accommodated in QCDF without introducing power corrections induced from penguin annihilation, while the predicted $B^-\to \ov K_0^{*0}(1430)π^-$ and $\ov B^0\to K_0^{*-}(1430)π^+$ are too small compared to experiment. In principle, the data of $K_0^*(1430)π$ modes can be explained if penguin-annihilation induced power corrections are taken into account. However, this will destroy the agreement between theory and experiment for $B\to K_0^*(1430)(η^{(')},ρ,ω,ϕ)$. Contrary to the pseudoscalar meson sector where $B\to Kη'$ has the largest rate in 2-body decays of the $B$ meson, we show that $Br(B\to K_0^*η')<\B(B\to K_0^*η)$. The decay $\ov B^0\to a_0(980)^+K^-$ is found to have a rate much smaller than that of $\ov B^0\to a_0(980)^+π^-$ in QCDF, while it is the other way around in pQCD. Experimental measurements of these two modes will help discriminate between these two different approaches. Assuming 2-quark bound states for $f_0(980)$ and $f_0(500)$, the observed large rates of $f_0(980)K$ and $f_0(980)K^*$ modes can be explained in QCDF with the $f_0(980)\!-\!f_0(500)$ mixing angle $θ$ in the vicinity of $20^\circ$.

$1^{++}$ Nonet Singlet-Octet Mixing Angle, Strange Quark Mass, and Strange Quark Condensate

Two strategies are taken into account to determine the $f_1(1420)$-$f_1(1285)$ mixing angle $θ$. (i) First, using the Gell-Mann-Okubo mass formula together with the $K_1(1270)$-$K_1(1400)$ mixing angle $θ_{K_1}=(-34\pm 13)^\circ$ extracted from the data for ${\cal B}(B\to K_1(1270) γ), {\cal B}(B\to K_1(1400) γ), {\cal B}(τ\to K_1(1270) ν_τ)$, and ${\cal B}(τ\to K_1(1420) ν_τ)$, gave $θ= (23^{+17}_{-23})^\circ$. (ii) Second, from the study of the ratio for $f_1(1285) \to ϕγ$ and $f_1(1285) \to ρ^0γ$ branching fractions, we have two-fold solution $θ=(19.4^{+4.5}_{-4.6})^\circ$ or $(51.1^{+4.5}_{-4.6})^\circ$. Combining these two analyses, we thus obtain $θ=(19.4^{+4.5}_{-4.6})^\circ$. We further compute the strange quark mass and strange quark condensate from the analysis of the $f_1(1420)-f_1(1285)$ mass difference QCD sum rule, where the operator-product-expansion series is up to dimension six and to ${\cal O}(α_s^3, m_s^2 α_s^2)$ accuracy. Using the average of the recent lattice results and the $θ$ value that we have obtained as inputs, we get $<\bar{s} s>/<\bar{u} u> =0.41 \pm 0.09$.

Galactic Dark Matter in the Phantom Field

We investigate the possibility that the galactic dark matter exists in an scenario where the phantom field is responsible for the dark energy. We obtain the statically and spherically approximate solution for this kind of the galaxy system with a supermassive black hole at its center. The solution of the metric functions is satisfied with $g_{tt} = - g_{rr}^{-1}$. Constrained by the observation of the rotational stars moving in circular orbits with nearly constant tangential speed in a spiral galaxy, the background of the phantom field which is spatially inhomogeneous has an exponential potential. To avoid the well-known quantum instability of the vacuum at high frequencies, the phantom field defined in an effective theory is valid only at low energies. Under this assumption, we further investigate the following properties. The absorption cross section of the low-energy $S$-wave excitations of the phantom field into the central black hole is shown to be the horizontal area of the central black hole. Because the infalling phantom particles have a total negative energy, the accretion of the phantom energy is related to the decrease of the black hole mass which is estimated to be much less than a solar mass in the lifetime of the Universe. Using a simple model with the cold dark matter very weakly coupled to the "{\it low-frequency}" phantom particles which are generated from the background, we show that these two densities can be quasi-stable in the galaxy.

B -> K1 l^+l^- Decays in a Family Non-universal Z' Model

The implications of the family non-universal $Z^\prime$ model in the $B\to K_{1}(1270,1400)\ell^{+}\ell^{-}(\ell=e\,,μ\,,τ)$ decays are explored, where the mass eigenstates $K_{1}(1270,1400)$ are the mixtures of $^{1}{P}_{1}$ and $^{3}{P}_{1}$ states with the mixing angle $θ$. In this work, considering the $Z^\prime$ boson and setting the mixing angle $θ=(-34\pm13)^{\circ}$, we analyze the branching ratio, the dilepton invariant mass spectrum, the normalized forward-backward asymmetry and lepton polarization asymmetries of each decay mode. We find that all observables of $B\to K_{1}(1270)μ^{+}μ^{-}$ are sensitive to the $Z^{\prime}$ contribution. Moreover, the observables of $B\to K_{1}(1400)μ^{+}μ^{-}$ are relatively strong $θ$-dependence; thus, the $Z^{\prime}$ contribution will be buried by the uncertainty of the mixing angle $θ$. Furthermore, the zero crossing position in the FBA spectrum of $B\to K_{1}(1270)μ^{+}μ^{-}$ at low dilepton mass will move to the positive direction with $Z^\prime$ contribution. For the tau modes, the effects of $Z^\prime$ are not remarkable due to the small phase space. These results could be tested in the running LHC-b experiment and Super-B factory.

Charmless Hadronic B Decays into a Tensor Meson

Two-body charmless hadronic B decays involving a tensor meson in the final state are studied within the framework of QCD factorization (QCDF). Due to the G-parity of the tensor meson, both the chiral-even and chiral-odd two-parton light-cone distribution amplitudes of the tensor meson are antisymmetric under the interchange of momentum fractions of the quark and anti-quark in the SU(3) limit. Our main results are: (i) In the naive factorization approach, the decays such as $B^-\to \bar K_2^{*0}π^-$ and $\bar B^0\to K_2^{*-}π^+$ with a tensor meson emitted are prohibited owing to the fact that a tensor meson cannot be created from the local V-A or tensor current. Nevertheless, they receive nonfactorizable contributions in QCDF from vertex, penguin and hard spectator corrections. The experimental observation of $B^-\to \bar K_2^{*0}π^-$ indicates the importance of nonfactorizable effects. (ii) For penguin-dominated $B\to TP$ and $TV$ decays, the predicted rates in naive factorization are usually too small by one to two orders of magnitude. In QCDF, they are enhanced by power corrections from penguin annihilation and nonfactorizable contributions.(iii) The dominant penguin contributions to $B\to K_2^*η^{(')}$ arise from the processes: (a) $b\to ss\bar s\to sη_s$ and (b) $b\to s q\bar q\to q \bar K_2^*$ with $η_q=(u\bar u+d\bar d)/\sqrt{2}$ and $η_s=s\bar s$. The interference, constructive for $K_2^*η'$ and destructive for $K_2^*η$, explains why $Γ(B\to K_2^*η')\ggΓ(B\to K_2^*η)$.

Modified Padé Approach to the S-Wave Charmonium Spectroscopy in QCD

We calculate the $S$-wave charmonium spectroscopy using the Hamiltonian with the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) potential. The logarithmic factor $\ln μr$, appearing in the next-to-leading order QCD loop corrections to the potential, is expanded about $r=1/μ$, where $μ$ corresponds to the typical charmonium scale. The resulting potential characterized by the Coulombic and linear components is consistent with the form of the Cornell potential. We obtain $χ^2$ fitting results for the masses of the $S$-wave charmonium states, $η_c(1^1S_0)$, $J/ψ(1^3S_1)$, $η_c(2^1S_0)$, and $ψ(2^3S_1)$ in remarkable accordance with data. Our results successfully account for the hyperfine splitting for the 1S state as well as for the 2S state. We further use the three best fit parameters: the charm quark mass $m_c$, coupling constant $α_s$ and the corresponding scale $μ$ to predict the $S$-wave mass spectrum with $n\leq 6$. The hints for results are discussed.

Non-Gaussianities of Single Field Inflation with Non-minimal Coupling

We investigate the non-Gaussianities of inflation driven by a single scalar field coupling non-minimally to the Einstein Gravity. We assume that the form of the scalar field is very general with an arbitrary sound speed. For convenience to study, we take the subclass that the non-minimal coupling term is linear to the Ricci scalar $R$. We define a parameter $μ\equivε_h/ε_θ$ where $ε_h$ and $ε_θ$ are two kinds of slow-roll parameters, and obtain the dependence of the shape of the 3-point correlation function on $μ$. We also show the estimator $F_{NL}$ in the equilateral limit. Finally, based on numerical calculations, we present the non-Gaussianities of non-minimal coupling chaotic inflation as an explicit example.

Form Factors of $B_{u,d,s}$ Decays into P-Wave Axial-Vector Mesons in the Light-Cone Sum Rule Approach

We calculate the vector and axial-vector form factors of $B_{u,d,s}$ decays into P-wave axial-vector mesons in the light-cone sum rule approach. For the sum rule results, we have included corrections of order $m_A/m_b$, where $m_A$ is the mass of the axial-vector meson $A$. The results are relevant to the light-cone distribution amplitudes of the axial-vector mesons. It is important to note that, owing to the $G$-parity, the chiral-even two-parton light-cone distribution amplitudes of the $^3P_1$ ($^1P_1$) mesons are symmetric (antisymmetric) under the exchange of quark and anti-quark momentum fractions in the SU(3) limit. For chiral-odd light-cone distribution amplitudes, it is the other way around. The predictions for decay rates of $B_{u,d,s} \to A e ν_e$ are also presented.

Light-Cone Distribution Amplitudes of Axial-vector Mesons

We have presented a detailed study of twist-2 and twist-3 light-cone distribution amplitudes of $1^3P_1$ and $1^1P_1$ axial-vector mesons, based on QCD conformal partial wave expansion. Applying equations of motion, the twist-three two-parton light-cone distribution amplitudes can be expressed in terms of leading-twist and twist-three three-parton light-cone distribution amplitudes. The relevant G-parity invariant and violating parameters, containing the corrections due to the SU(3) breaking effects, are evaluated from the QCD sum rule method. The results for axial-vector decay constants of $1^3P_1$ states are presented. The values of tensor decay constants and Gegenbauer moments of the leading twist distribution amplitudes for $1^1P_1$ states are updated. Using Gell-Mann-Okubo mass formula, the mixing angle for the $f_8$ and $f_1$ of $1^3P_1$ states is $θ_{^3P_1}\sim 38^\circ$, and that for $h_8$ and $h_1$ of $1^1P_1$ states is $θ_{^1P_1}\sim 10^\circ$. The detailed properties for physical states $f_1(1285), f_1(1420), h_1(1170)$, and $h_1(1380)$ are given. Assuming the mixing angle between $K_{1A}$ and $K_{1B}$ to be $θ_K=45^\circ$ or $-45^\circ$, we also give the detailed study for $K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$. Using the conformal partial wave expansion, we obtain the models for light-cone distribution amplitudes, containing contributions up to conformal spin 9/2. It is interesting to note that some distribution amplitudes have significant asymmetric behaviors, which should be phenomenologically attractive.

Perturbations in Matter Bounce with Non-minimal Coupling

In this paper, we investigate the perturbations in matter bounce induced from Lee-Wick lagrangian with the involvement of non-minimal coupling to the Einstein Gravity. We find that this extra non-minimal coupling term can cause a red-tilt on the primordial metric perturbation at extremely large scales. It can also lead to large enhancement of reheating of the normal field particles compared to the usual minimal coupling models.

Radiative and Semileptonic B Decays Involving Higher K-Resonances in the Final States

We study the radiative and semileptonic B decays involving a spin-$J$ resonant $K_J^{(*)}$ with parity $(-1)^J$ for $K_J^*$ and $(-1)^{J+1}$ for $K_J$ in the final state. Using the large energy effective theory (LEET) techniques, we formulate $B \to K_J^{(*)}$ transition form factors in the large recoil region in terms of two independent LEET functions $ζ_\perp^{K_J^{(*)}}$ and $ζ_\parallel^{K_J^{(*)}}$, the values of which at zero momentum transfer are estimated in the BSW model. According to the QCD counting rules, $ζ_{\perp,\parallel}^{K_J^{(*)}}$ exhibit a dipole dependence in $q^2$. We predict the decay rates for $B \to K_J^{(*)} γ$, $B \to K_J^{(*)} \ell^+ \ell^-$ and $B \to K_J^{(*)}ν\barν$. The branching fractions for these decays with higher $K$-resonances in the final state are suppressed due to the smaller phase spaces and the smaller values of $ζ^{K_J^{(*)}}_{\perp,\parallel}$. Furthermore, if the spin of $K_J^{(*)}$ becomes larger, the branching fractions will be further suppressed due to the smaller Clebsch-Gordan coefficients defined by the polarization tensors of the $K_J^{(*)}$. We also calculate the forward backward asymmetry of the $B \to K_J^{(*)} \ell^+ \ell^-$ decay, for which the zero is highly insensitive to the $K$-resonances in the LEET parametrization.

Two-parton Light-cone Distribution Amplitudes of Tensor Mesons

We present a detailed study of the two-parton light-cone distribution amplitudes for $1\,^3P_2$ nonet tensor mesons. The asymptotic two-parton distribution amplitudes of twist-2 and twist-3 are given. The decay constants $f_T$ and $f_T^\bot$ defined by the matrices of non-local operators on the lightcone are estimated using the QCD sum rule techniques. We also study the decay constants for $f_2(1270)$ and $f_2^\prime(1525)$ based on the hypothesis of tensor meson dominance together with the data of $Γ(f_2\to ππ)$ and $Γ(f'_2\to K\bar K)$ and find that the results are in accordance with the sum rule predictions.

$B \to K_1 γ$ Decays in the Light-Cone QCD Sum Rules

We present a detailed study of $B\to K_1(1270) γ$ and $B\to K_1(1400) γ$ decays. Using the light-cone sum rule technique, we calculate the $B\to K_{1A} (1^3P_1)$ and $B\to K_{1B} (1^1P_1)$ tensor form factors, $T_1^{K_{1A}}(0)$ and $T_1^{K_{1B}}(0)$, where the contributions are included up to the first order in $m_{K_1}/m_b$. We resolve the sign ambiguity of the $K_1(1270)$--$K_1(1400)$ mixing angle $θ_{K_1}$ by defining the signs of decay constants, $f_{K_{1A}}$ and $f_{K_{1B}}^\perp$. From the comparison of the theoretical calculation and the data for decays $B\to K_1 γ$ and $τ^-\to K_1^-(1270)ν_τ$, we find that $θ_{K_1}=-(34\pm 13)^\circ$ is favored. In contrast to $B\to K^* γ$, the hard-spectator contribution suppresses the $B\to K_1(1270) γ$ and $B\to K_1(1400) γ$ branching ratios slightly. The predicted branching ratios are in agreement with the Belle measurement within the errors. We point out that a more precise measurement for the ratio $R_{K_1}={\cal B}(B\to K_1(1400)γ)/{\cal B}(B\to K_1(1270)γ)$ can offer a better determination for the $θ_{K_1}$ and consequently the theoretical uncertainties can be reduced.

Branching Ratios and Polarization in B-> VV,VA,AA Decays

We present a detailed study of charmless two-body B decays into final states involving two vector mesons (VV) or two axial-vector mesons (AA) or one vector and one axial-vector meson (VA), within the framework of QCD factorization, where $A$ is either a $^3P_1$ or $^1P_1$ axial-vector meson. The main results are as follows. (i) In the presence of NLO nonfactorizable corrections, effective Wilson coefficients $a_i^h$ are helicity dependent. For some penguin-dominated modes, the constructive (destructive) interference in the negative-helicity (longitudinal-helicity) amplitude of the $B\to VV$ decay will render the former comparable to the latter and push up the transverse polarization. (ii) In QCD factorization, the transverse polarization fraction can be large for penguin-dominated charmless $VV$ modes by allowing for sizable penguin annihilation contributions. (iii) Using the measured $\bar K^{*0}ρ^-$ channel as an input, we predict the branching ratios and polarization fractions for other $\ov B\to \bar K^*ρ$ decays. (iv) The smallness of the axial-vector decay constant of the $^1P_1$ axial vector meson can be tested by measuring various $b_1ρ$ modes to see if $Γ(\bar B^0\to b_1^-ρ^+)\ll Γ(\bar B^0\to b_1^+ρ^-)$ and $Γ(B^-\to b_1^-ρ^0)\ll Γ(B^-\to b_1^0ρ^-)$. (v) For the penguin-dominated modes $a_1K^*$ and $b_1K^*$, it is found that the former are dominated by transverse polarization amplitudes, whereas the latter are governed by longitudinal polarization states.

Annihilation in Factorization-suppressed B Decays Involving a 1^1P_1 Meson and Search for New-Physics Signals

The recent measurements of large transverse fractions in B \to ϕK^* decays represent a challenge for theory. It was shown that the QCD penguin annihilation could contribute to the transverse amplitudes such that the observation could be accounted for in the Standard Model. However, if one resorts to new physics for resolutions, then the relevant 4-quark operators should be tensor-like or scalar-like. We show that the same annihilation effects could remarkably enhance the longitudinal rates of factorization-suppressed B\to h_1(1380) K^*, b_1(1235) K^* modes to be (12.0^{+4.1}_{-3.0})\times 10^{-6} and (7.0\pm 3.5)\times 10^{-6}, respectively, but attend to be cancelled in the transverse components. Nevertheless, the transverse fractions of B\to h_1(1380) K^* can become sizable due to new-physics contributions. The measurements of these decays can thus help us to realize the role of annihilation topologies in charmless B decays and offer a theoretically clean window to search for the evidence of new physics.

B -> J/psi K^* Decays in QCD Factorization

The hadronic decay B -> J K^* is analyzed within the framework of QCD factorization. The spin amplitudes A_0, A_\parallel and A_\perp in the transversity basis and their relative phases are studied using various different form-factor models for B-K^* transition. The effective parameters a_2^h for helicity h=0,+,- states receive different nonfactorizable contributions and hence they are helicity dependent, contrary to naive factorization where a_2^h are universal and polarization independent. QCD factorization breaks down even at the twist-2 level for transverse hard spectator interactions. Although a nontrivial strong phase for the A_\parallel amplitude can be achieved by adjusting the phase of an infrared divergent contribution, the present QCD factorization calculation cannot say anything definite about the phase phi_\parallel. Unlike B -> J/psi K decays, the longitudinal parameter a_2^0 for B -> J/psi K^* does not receive twist-3 corrections and is not large enough to account for the observed branching ratio and the fraction of longitudinal polarization. Possible enhancement mechanisms for a_2^0 are discussed.

Charmful Baryonic B Decays $\bar B^0\toΛ_c\bar p$ and $\bar B\toΛ_c\bar pπ(ρ)$

We study the two-body and three-body charmful baryonic B decays: $\bar B^0\to Λ_c\bar p$ and $\bar B\to Λ_c \bar pπ(ρ)$. The factorizable W-exchange contribution to $\bar B^0\toΛ_c\bar p$ is negligible. Applying the bag model to evaluate the baryon-to-baryon weak transition matrix element, we find $B(\bar B^0\toΛ_c\bar p)\leq 1.1\times 10^{-5}|g_{B^0pΣ_b^+}/6|^2$ with $g_{B^0pΣ_b^+}$ being a strong coupling for the decay $Σ_b^+\to \bar B^0 p$ and hence the predicted branching ratio is well below the current experimental limit. The factorizable contributions to $B^-\toΛ_c\bar pπ^-$ can account for the observed branching ratio of order $6\times 10^{-4}$. The branching ratio of order $2\times 10^{-3}$ for $B^-\toΛ_c\bar pρ^-$ is larger than that of $B^-\toΛ_c\bar pπ^-$ by a factor of about 2.6. We explain why the three-body charmful baryonic B decay has a larger rate than the two-body one, contrary to the case of mesonic B decays.

Charmless Hadronic Two-body Decays of B_u and B_d Mesons

Two-body charmless nonleptonic decays of B_u and B_d mesons are studied within the framework of generalized factorization in which the effective Wilson coefficients $c^{eff}_i$ are renormalization-scale and -scheme independent while factorization is applied to the tree-level hadronic matrix elements. Contrary to previous studies, our $c_i^{eff}$ do not suffer from gauge and infrared problems. Nonfactorizable effects are parametrized in terms of N_c(LL) and N_c(LR), the effective numbers of colors arising from (V-A)(V-A) and (V-A)(V+A) four-quark operators, respectively. Tree and penguin transitions are classified into six different classes. The data of $B^-\toρ^0π^-$ and $B^-\toϕK^-$ clearly indicate that $N_c(LR)\neq N_c(LL)$: The first measurement of the b -> u mode $B^-\toρ^0π^-$ and the experimental information on the tree-dominated mode $B^-\toωπ^-$ all imply that Nc(LL) is less than 3, whereas the CLEO measurement of $B^-\toϕK^-$ shows Nc(LR)>3. For given input parameters, the prediction of ${\cal B}(B\toη' K)$ is largely improved by setting Nc(LL)~2 and Nc(LR)>Nc(LL); in particular, the charm content of the eta' contributes in the right direction. The decay rate of $B\toϕK^*$ is very sensitive to the form-factor ratio A_2/A_1; the absence of $B\toϕK$ events does not necessarily invalidate the factorization approach. If the branching ratio of $B^-\toωK^-$ is experimentally found to be significantly larger than that of $B^-\toρ^0 K^-$, we argue that inelastic final-state rescattering may account for the disparity between $ωK^-$ and $ρ^0 K^-$.

Phenomenological Analysis of D Meson Lifetimes

The QCD-based operator-product-expansion technique is systematically applied to the study of charmed meson lifetimes. We stress that it is crucial to take into account the momentum of the spectator light quark of charmed mesons, otherwise the destructive Pauli-interference effect in $D^+$ decays will lead to a negative decay width for the $D^+$. We have applied the QCD sum rule approach to estimate the hadronic matrix elements of color-singlet and color-octet 4-quark operators relevant to nonleptonic inclusive $D$ decays. The lifetime of $D_s^+$ is found to be longer than that of $D^0$ because the latter receives a constructive $W$-exchange contribution, whereas the hadronic annihilation and leptonic contributions to the former are compensated by the Pauli interference. We obtain the lifetime ratio $τ(D_s^+)/τ(D^0)$ $\approx 1.08\pm 0.04$, which is larger than some earlier theoretical estimates, but still smaller than the recent measurements by CLEO and E791.
