Hybrid algebras

We introduce a new class of symmetric algebras, which we call hybrid algebras. This class contains on one extreme Brauer graph algebras, and on the other extreme general weighted surface algebras. We show that hybrid algebras are precisely the blocks of idempotent algebras of weighted surface algebras, up to socle deformations. More generally, for tame symmetric algebras whose Gabriel quiver is 2-regular, we show that the tree class of an Auslander-Reiten component is Dynkin or Euclidean or one of the infinite tress $A_{\infty}$, $A_{\infty}^{\infty}$, or $D_{\infty}$.

Some cluster tilting modules for weighted surface algebras

Non-singular weighted surface algebras satisfy the necessary condition found in [6] for existence of cluster tilting modules. We show that any such algebra whose Gabriel quiver is bipartite, has a module satisfying the necessary ext vanishing condition. We show that it is 3-cluster tilting precisely for the non-singular triangular or spherical algebras but not for any other weighted surface algebra with bipartite Gabriel quiver.

Cluster tilting modules for mesh algebras

We study cluster tilting modules in mesh algebras of Dynkin type, providing a new proof for their existence. In all but one case, we show that these are precisely the maximal rigid modules, and that they are equivariant for a certain automorphism. We further study their mutation, providing an example of mutation in an abelian category which is not stably 2-Calabi-Yau, and explicitly describe the combinatorics.

On l-parabolic Hecke algebras of symmetric groups

Let $H=H_q(n)$ be the Hecke algebra of the symmetric group of degree n, over a field of arbitrary characteristic, and where q is a primitive l-th root of unity in $K$. Let $H_ρ$ be an l-parabolic subalgebra of $H$. We give an elementary explicit construction for the basic algebra of a non-simple block of $H_ρ$. We also discuss homological properties of $H_ρ$-modules, in particular existence of varieties for modules, and some consequences.

Weighted surface algebras: general version. Corrigendum

In [arXiv:1902.04063] we generalize the original definition of weighted surface algebras in [arXiv:1703.02346] by allowing the possibility that arrows might not be part of the Gabriel quiver, which gives a much larger class of algebras. This means that the zero relations need modification, to make sure that the algebras are symmetric, and of the appropriate dimension. We found recently that we had missed one necessary modification for the zero relations. Here we give the correct definition, and revise the parts of [arXiv:1902.04063] which are affected by this modification.

Hochschild cohomology of some quantum complete intersections

We compute the Hochschild cohomology ring of the algebras $A= k\langle X, Y\rangle/ (X^a, XY-qYX, Y^a)$ over a field $k$ where $a\geq 2$ and where $q\in k$ is a primitive $a$-th root of unity. We find the the dimension of $\mathrm{HH}^n(A)$ and show that it is independent of $a$. We compute explicitly the ring structure of the even part of the Hochschild cohomology modulo homogeneous nilpotent elements.

Algebras with non-periodic bounded modules

We study weakly symmetric special biserial algebras of infinite representation type. We show that usually some socle deformation of such an algebra has non-periodic bounded modules. The exceptions are precisely the algebras whose Brauer graph is a tree with no multiple edges. If the algebra has a non-periodic bounded module then its Hochschild cohomology cannot satisfy the finite generation property (Fg).

Ext-finite modules for weakly symmetric algebras with radical cube zero

Assume $A$ is weakly symmetric, indecomposable, with radical cube zero and radical square non-zero. We show that such algebra of wild representation type does not have a non-projective module $M$ whose ext algebra is finite-dimensional. This gives a complete classification weakly symmetric indecomposable algebras which have a non-projective module whose ext algebra is finite-dimensional.

Vertices of Lie Modules

Let Lie(n) be the Lie module of the symmetric group S_n over a field F of characteristic p>0, that is, Lie(n) is the left ideal of FS_n generated by the Dynkin-Specht-Wever element. We study the problem of parametrizing non-projective indecomposable summands of Lie(n), via describing their vertices and sources. Our main result shows that this can be reduced to the case when n is a power of p. When n=9 and p=3, and when n=8 and p=2, we present a precise answer. This suggests a possible parametrization for arbitrary prime powers.

Dimensions of Higher Extensions for SL_2

We analyse the recursive formula found for various Ext groups for $\SL_2(k)$, $k$ a field of characteristic $p$, and derive various generating functions for these groups. We use this to show that the growth rate for the cohomology of $\SL_2(k)$ is at least exponential. In particular, $\max \{\dim \Ext^i_{\SL_2(k)}(k, Δ(a))\mid a,i \in \N \}$ has (at least) exponential growth for all $p$. We also show that $\max \{\dim \Ext^i_{\SL_2(k)}(k, Δ(a))\mid a\in \N \}$ for a fixed $i$ is bounded.

Lie powers of the natural module for GL(2,K)

In recent work of R. M. Bryant and the second author a (partial) modular analogue of Klyachko's 1974 result on Lie powers of the natural $\rm{GL}(n,K)$ was presented. There is was shown that nearly all of the indecomposable summands of the $r$th tensor power also occur up to isomorphism as summands of the $r$th Lie power provided that $r\neq p^m$ and $r \neq 2p^m$, where $p$ is the characteristic of $K$. In the current paper we restrict attention to ${\rm GL}(2,K)$ and consider the missing cases where $r = p^m$ and $r = 2p^m$. In particular, we prove that the indecomposable summand of the $r$th tensor power of the natural module with highest weight $(r-1,1)$ is a summand of the $r$th Lie power if and only if $r$ is a not power of $p$.

Modelling Richardson orbits for SO_N via Delta-filtered modules

We study the Delta-filtered modules for the Auslander algebra of k[T]/T^n\rtimes C_2 where C_2 is the cyclic group of order two. The motivation for this is the bijection between parabolic orbits in the nilradical of a parabolic subgroup of SL_n and certain Delta-filtered modules for the Auslander algebra of k[T]/T^n as found by Hille and Roehrle and Bruestle et al. Under this bijection, the Richardson orbit (i.e. the dense orbit) corresponds to the Delta-filtered module without self-extensions. It has remained an open problem to describe such a correspondence for other classical groups. In this paper, we establish the Auslander algebra of k[T]/T^n\rtimes C_2 as the right candidate for the orthogonal groups. In particular, for any parabolic subgroup of an orthogonal group we construct a map from parabolic orbits to Delta-filtered modules and show that in the case of the Richardson orbit, the result has no self-extensions. One of the consequences of our work is that we are able to describe the extensions between special classes of Delta-filtered modules. In particular, we show that these extensions can grow arbitrarily large.

Radical cube zero weakly symmetric algebras and support varieties

One of our main results is a classification all the weakly symmetric radical cube zero finite dimensional algebras over an algebraically closed field having a theory of support via the Hochschild cohomology ring satisfying Dade's Lemma. Along the way we give a characterization of when a finite dimensional Koszul algebra has such a theory of support in terms of the graded centre of the Koszul dual.

The non-projective part of the Lie module for the symmetric group

The Lie module of the group algebra $FS_n$ of the symmetric group is known to be not projective if and only if the characteristic $p$ of $F$ divides $n$. We show that in this case its non-projective summands belong to the principal block of $FS_n$. Let $V$ be a vector space of dimension $m$ over $F$, and let $L^n(V)$ be the $n$-th homogeneous part of the free Lie algebra on $V$; this is a polynomial representation of $GL_m(F)$ of degree $n$, or equivalently, a module of the Schur algebra $S(m,n)$. Our result implies that, when $m \geq n$, every summand of $L^n(V)$ which is not a tilting module belongs to the principal block of $S(m,n)$, by which we mean the block containing the $n$-th symmetric power of $V$.

The stable AR-quiver of a quantum complete intersection

We completely describe the tree classes of the components of the stable Auslander-Reiten quiver of a quantum complete intersection. In particular, we show that the tree class is always $A_{\infty}$ whenever the algebra is of wild representation type. Moreover, in the tame case, there is one component of tree class $\tilde{A}_{12}$, whereas all the other are of tree class $A_{\infty}$.
