Homology of complexes over finite tensor categories

We generalize a recent result by J.F. Carlson to finite tensor categories having finitely generated cohomology. Specifically, we show that if the Krull dimension of the cohomology ring is sufficiently large, then there exist infinitely many non-isomorphic and nontrivial bounded complexes of projective objects, and with small homology. We also prove a version for finite dimensional algebras with finitely generated cohomology.

Support varieties for finite tensor categories: Complexity, realization, and connectedness

We advance support variety theory for finite tensor categories. First we show that the dimension of the support variety of an object equals the rate of growth of a minimal projective resolution as measured by the Frobenius-Perron dimension. Then we show that every conical subvariety of the support variety of the unit object may be realized as the support variety of an object. Finally, we show that the support variety of an indecomposable object is connected.

Complete intersections and equivalences with categories of matrix factorizations

We prove that one can realize certain triangulated subcategories of the singularity category of a complete intersection as homotopy categories of matrix factorizations. Moreover, we prove that for any commutative ring and non-zerodivisor, the homotopy category of matrix factorizations embeds into the homotopy category of totally acyclic complexes of finitely generated projective modules over the factor ring.

Realizability and the Avrunin-Scott theorem for higher-order support varieties

We introduce higher-order support varieties for pairs of modules over a commutative local complete intersection ring, and give a complete description of which varieties occur as such support varieties. In the context of a group algebra of a finite elementary abelian group, we also prove a higher-order Avrunin-Scott-type theorem, linking higher-order support varieties and higher-order rank varieties for pairs of modules.

The Gorenstein defect category

We consider the homotopy category of complexes of projective modules over a Noetherian ring. Truncation at degree zero induces a fully faithful triangle functor from the totally acyclic complexes to the stable derived category. We show that if the ring is either Artin or commutative Noetherian local, then the functor is dense if and only if the ring is Gorenstein. Motivated by this, we define the Gorenstein defect category of the ring, a category which in some sense measures how far the ring is from being Gorenstein.

The Grothendieck group of an n-angulated category

We define the Grothendieck group of an n-angulated category and show that for odd n its properties are as in the special case of n=3, i.e. the triangulated case. In particular, its subgroups classify the dense and complete n-angulated subcategories via a bijective correspondence. For a tensor n-angulated category, the Grothendieck group becomes a ring, whose ideals classify the dense and complete n-angulated tensor ideals of the category.

Tate-Hochschild homology and cohomology of Frobenius algebras

We study Tate-Hochschild homology and cohomology for a two-sided Noetherian Gorenstein algebra. These (co)homology groups are defined for all degrees, non-negative as well as negative, and they agree with the usual Hochschild (co)homology groups for all degrees larger than the injective dimension of the algebra. We prove certain duality theorems relating the Tate-Hochschild (co)homology groups in positive degree to those in negative degree, in the case where the algebra is Frobenius. We explicitly compute all Tate-Hochschild (co)homology groups for certain classes of Frobenius algebras, namely, certain quantum complete intersections.

Cluster tilting and complexity

We study the notion of positive and negative complexity of pairs of objects in cluster categories. The first main result shows that the maximal complexity occurring is either one, two or infinite, depending on the representation type of the underlying hereditary algebra. In the the second result, we study the bounded derived category of a cluster tilted algebra, and show that the maximal complexity occurring is either zero or one whenever the algebra is of finite or tame type.

The stable AR-quiver of a quantum complete intersection

We completely describe the tree classes of the components of the stable Auslander-Reiten quiver of a quantum complete intersection. In particular, we show that the tree class is always $A_{\infty}$ whenever the algebra is of wild representation type. Moreover, in the tame case, there is one component of tree class $\tilde{A}_{12}$, whereas all the other are of tree class $A_{\infty}$.
