Hybrid algebras

We introduce a new class of symmetric algebras, which we call hybrid algebras. This class contains on one extreme Brauer graph algebras, and on the other extreme general weighted surface algebras. We show that hybrid algebras are precisely the blocks of idempotent algebras of weighted surface algebras, up to socle deformations. More generally, for tame symmetric algebras whose Gabriel quiver is 2-regular, we show that the tree class of an Auslander-Reiten component is Dynkin or Euclidean or one of the infinite tress $A_{\infty}$, $A_{\infty}^{\infty}$, or $D_{\infty}$.

Virtual mutations of weighted surface algebras

The finite-dimensional symmetric algebras over an algebraically closed field, based on surface triangulations, motivated by the theory of cluster algebras, have been extensively investigated and applied. In particular, the weighted surface algebras and their deformations were introduced and studied in [16]-[20], and it was shown that all these algebras, except few singular cases, are symmetric tame periodic algebras of period $4$. In this article, using the general form of a weighted surface algebra from [19], we introduce and study so called virtual mutations of weighted surface algebras, which constitute a new large class of symmetric tame periodic algebras of period $4$. We prove that all these algebras are derived equivalent but not isomorphic to weighted surface algebras. We associate such algebras to any triangulated surface, first taking blow-ups of a family of edges to $2$-triangle discs, and then virtual mutations of their weighted surface algebras. The results of this paper form an essential step towards a classification of all tame symmetric periodic algebras.

Weighted surface algebras: general version. Corrigendum

In [arXiv:1902.04063] we generalize the original definition of weighted surface algebras in [arXiv:1703.02346] by allowing the possibility that arrows might not be part of the Gabriel quiver, which gives a much larger class of algebras. This means that the zero relations need modification, to make sure that the algebras are symmetric, and of the appropriate dimension. We found recently that we had missed one necessary modification for the zero relations. Here we give the correct definition, and revise the parts of [arXiv:1902.04063] which are affected by this modification.

Finite cycles of indecomposable modules

We solve a long standing open problem concerning the structure of finite cycles in the category mod A of finitely generated modules over an arbitrary artin algebra A, that is, the chains of homomorphisms $M_0 \stackrel{f_1}{\rightarrow} M_1 \to \cdots \to M_{r-1} \stackrel{f_r}{\rightarrow} M_r=M_0$ between indecomposable modules in mod A which do not belong to the infinite radical of mod A. In particular, we describe completely the structure of an arbitrary module category mod A whose all cycles are finite. The main structural results of the paper allow to derive several interesting combinatorial and homological properties of indecomposable modules lying on finite cycles. For example, we prove that for all but finitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable modules M lying on finite cycles of a module category mod A the Euler characteristic of M is well defined and nonnegative. As an another application of these results we obtain a characterization of all cycle-finite module categories mod A having only a finite number of functorially finite torsion classes. Moreover, new types of examples illustrating the main results of the paper are presented.

Algebras whose Tits form accepts a maximal omnipresent root

Let k be an algebraically closed field and A be a finite-dimensional associative basic k-algebra of the form A=kQ/I where Q is a quiver without oriented cycles or double arrows and I is an admissible ideal of kQ. We consider roots of the Tits form q_A, in particular in case q_A is weakly non-negative. We prove that for any maximal omnipresent root v of q_A, there exists an indecomposable A-module X such that v is the dimension vector of X. Moreover, if A is strongly simply connected, the existence of a maximal omnipresent root of q_A implies that A is tame of tilted type.
