Existence, multiplicity and classification results for solutions to $k$-Hessian equations with general weights

The aim of this paper is to study negative classical solutions to a $k$-Hessian equation involving a nonlinearity with a general weight \begin{equation} \label{Eq:Ma:0} \tag{$P$} \begin{cases} S_k(D^2u)= λρ(|x|) (1-u)^q &\mbox{in }\;\; B,\\ u=0 &\mbox{on }\partial B. \end{cases} \end{equation} Here, $B$ denotes the unit ball in $\mathbb R^n\!$, $n>2k$, $λ$ is a positive parameter and $q>k$ with $k\in \mathbb N$. The function $rρ'(r)/ρ(r)$ satisfies very general conditions in the radial direction $r=|x|$. We show the existence, nonexistence, and multiplicity of solutions to Problem \eqref{Eq:Ma:0}. The main technique used for the proofs is a phase-plane analysis related to a non-autonomous dynamical system associated to the equation in \eqref{Eq:Ma:0}. Further, using the aforementioned non-autonomous system, we give a comprehensive characterization of $P_2$-, $P_3^+$-, $P_4^+$-solutions to the related problem \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} S_k(D^2 w)= ρ(|x|) (-w)^q, \\ w<0, \end{cases} \end{equation*} given on the entire space $\mathbb R^n\!$. In particular, we describe new classes of solutions: fast decay $P^+_3$-solutions and $P_4^+$-solutions.

Singular solutions to $k$-Hessian equations with fast-growing nonlinearities

We study a class of elliptic problems, involving a $k$-Hessian and a very fast-growing nonlinearity, on a unit ball. We prove the existence of a radial singular solution and obtain its exact asymptotic behavior in a neighborhood of the origin. Furthermore, we study the multiplicity of regular solutions and bifurcation diagrams. An essential ingredient of this study is analyzing the number of intersection points between the singular and regular solutions for rescaled problems. In the particular case of the exponential nonlinearity, we obtain the convergence of regular solutions to the singular and analyze the intersection number depending on the parameter $k$ and the dimension $d$.

Asymptotics for singular solutions to conformally invariant fourth order systems in the punctured ball

We study the asymptotic behavior for singular solutions to a critical fourth order system generalizing the constant $Q$-curvature equation. Our main result extends to the case of strongly coupled systems, the celebrated asymptotic classification due to [L. A. Caffarelli, B. Gidas and J. Spruck, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. (1989)] and [N. Korevaar, R. Mazzeo, F. Pacard and R. Schoen, Invent. Math., (1999)]. On the technical level, we use an involved spectral analysis to study the Jacobi fields' growth properties in the kernel of the linearization of our system around a blow-up limit solution. Besides, we obtain sharp a priori estimates for the decay rate of singular solutions near the origin. Consequently, we prove that sufficiently close to the isolated singularity solutions behave like the so-called Emden--Fowler solution. Our main theorem positively answers a question posed by [R. L. Frank and T. König, Anal. PDE (2019)] concerning the local behavior close to the isolated singularity for scalar solutions in the punctured ball.

Qualitative properties for solutions to conformally invariant fourth order critical systems

We study qualitative properties for nonnegative solutions to a conformally invariant coupled system of fourth order equations involving critical exponents. For solutions defined in the punctured space, there exist essentially two cases to analyze. If the origin is a removable singularity, we prove that non-singular solutions are rotationally invariant and weakly positive. More precisely, they are the product of a fourth order spherical solution by a unit vector with nonnegative coordinates. If the origin is a non-removable singularity, we show that the solutions are radially symmetric and strongly positive. Furthermore, using a Pohozaev-type invariant, we prove the non-existence of semi-singular solutions, that is, all components equally blow-up in the neighborhood of origin. Namely, they are classified as multiples of the Emden--Fowler solution. Our results are natural generalizations of the famous classification due to [L. A. Caffarelli, B. Gidas and J. Spruck, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. (1989)] on the classical singular Yamabe equation.

Qualitative properties for solutions to subcritical fourth order systems

We prove some qualitative properties for singular solutions to a class of strongly coupled system involving a Gross--Pitaevskii-type nonlinearity. Our main theorems are vectorial fourth order counterparts of the classical results of [J. Serrin, Acta Math. (1964)], [P.-L. Lions, J. Differential Equations (1980)], [P. Aviles, Comm. Math. Phys. (1987)], and [B. Gidas and J. Spruck, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. (1981)]. On the technical level, we use the moving sphere method to classify the limit blow-up solutions to our system. Besides, applying asymptotic analysis techniques, we show that these solutions are indeed the local models near the isolated singularity. We also introduce a new fourth order nonautonomous Pohozaev functional, whose monotonicity properties yield improvement for the asymptotics results due to [R. Soranzo, Potential Anal. (1997)].

Concentration-compactness principle for nonlocal scalar field equations with critical growth

The aim of this paper is to study a concentration-compactness principle for homogeneous fractional Sobolev space $\mathcal{D}^{s,2} (\mathbb{R}^N)$ for $0<s<\min\{1,N/2\}.$ As an application we establish Palais-Smale compactness for the Lagrangian associated to the fractional scalar field equation $(-Δ)^{s} u = f(x,u)$ for $0<s<1.$ Moreover, using an analytic framework based on $\mathcal{D}^{s,2}(\mathbb{R}^N),$ we obtain the existence of ground state solutions for a wide class of nonlinearities in the critical growth range.

Concentration phenomena for fractional elliptic equations involving exponential critical growth

In this paper, we deal with the following singular perturbed fractional elliptic problem $ ε^{} (-Δ)^{1/2}{u}+V(z)u=f(u)\,\,\, \mbox{in} \,\,\, \mathbb{R}, $ where $ (-Δ)^{1/2}u$ is the square root of the Laplacian and $f(s)$ has exponential critical growth. Under suitable conditions on $f(s)$, we construct a localized bound state solution concentrating at an isolated component of the positive local minimum points of the potential of $V$ as $ε$ goes to $0.$

Ground states of nonlocal scalar field equations with Trudinger-Moser critical nonlinearity

We investigate the existence of ground state solutions for a class of nonlinear scalar field equations defined on whole real line, involving a fractional Laplacian and nonlinearities with Trudinger-Moser critical growth. We handle the lack of compactness of the associated energy functional due to the unboundedness of the domain and the presence of a limiting case embedding.
