Normalized solutions to the Chern-Simons-Schrödinger system: the supercritical case

We are concerned with the existence of normalized solutions for a class of generalized Chern-Simons-Schrödinger type problems with supercritical exponential growth $$ -Δu +λu+A_0 u+\sum\limits_{j=1}^2A_j^2 u=f(u),\quad \partial_1A_2-\partial_2A_1=-\frac{1}{2}|u|^2,\quad \partial_1A_1+\partial_2A_2=0,\quad \partial_1A_0=A_2|u|^2,\quad \partial_2A_0=-A_1|u|^2,\quad \int_{\mathbb{R}^2}|u|^2dx=a^2, $$ where $a\neq0$, $λ\in \mathbb{R}$ is known as the Lagrange multiplier and $f\in C^1(\mathbb{R})$ denotes the nonlinearity that fulfills the supercritical exponential growth in the Trudinger-Moser sense at infinity. Under suitable assumptions, combining the constrained minimization approach together with the homotopy stable family and elliptic regularity theory, we obtain that the problem has at least a ground state solution.

Concavity properties for solutions to $p$-Laplace equations with concave nonlinearities

We obtain new concavity results, up to a suitable transformation, for a class of quasi-linear equations in a convex domain involving the $p$-Laplace operator and a general nonlinearity satisfying concavity type assumptions. This provides an extension of results previously known in the literature only for the torsion and the eigenfunction equations. In the semilinear case $p = 2$ the results are already new since they include new admissible nonlinearities.

Local Uniqueness of blow-up solutions for critical Hartree equations in bounded domain

In this paper we are interested in the following critical Hartree equation \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} -Δu =\displaystyle{\Big(\int_Ω\frac{u^{2_μ^\ast} (ξ)}{|x-ξ|^μ}dξ\Big)u^{2_μ^\ast-1}}+\varepsilon u ,~~~\text{in}~Ω,\\ u=0,~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\text{on}~\partialΩ, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $N\geq4$, $0<μ\leq4$, $\varepsilon>0$ is a small parameter, $Ω$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^N$, and $2_μ^\ast=\frac{2N-μ}{N-2}$ is the critical exponent in the sense of the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequality. By establishing various versions of local Pohozaev identities and applying blow-up analysis, we first investigate the location of the blow-up points for single bubbling solutions to above the Hartree equation. Next we prove the local uniqueness of the blow-up solutions that concentrates at the non-degenerate critical point of the Robin function for $\varepsilon$ small.

Critical nonlocal systems with concave-convex powers

By using the fibering method jointly with Nehari manifold techniques, we obtain the existence of multiple solutions to a fractional $p$-Laplacian system involving critical concave-convex nonlinearities provided that a suitable smallness condition on the parameters involved is assumed. The result is obtained despite there is no general classification for the optimizers of the critical fractional Sobolev embedding.

Fractional NLS equations with magnetic field, critical frequency and critical growth

The paper is devoted to the study of a singularly perturbed fractional Schrödinger equations involving critical frequency and critical growth in the presence of a magnetic field. By using variational methods, we obtain the existence of mountain pass solutions $u_{\varepsilon}$ which tend to the trivial solution as $\varepsilon\rightarrow0$. Moreover, we get infinitely many solutions and sign-changing solutions for the problem in absence of magnetic effects under some extra assumptions.

Ground states for fractional Kirchhoff equations with critical nonlinearity in low dimension

We study the existence of ground states to a nonlinear fractional Kirchhoff equation with an external potential $V$. Under suitable assumptions on $V$, using the monotonicity trick and the profile decomposition, we prove the existence of ground states. In particular, the nonlinearity does not satisfy the Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz type condition or monotonicity assumptions.

Nonlocal Schrödinger-Kirchhoff equations with external magnetic field

The paper deals with existence and multiplicity of solutions of the fractional Schrödinger--Kirchhoff equation involving an external magnetic potential. As a consequence, the results can be applied to the special case \begin{equation*} (a+b[u]_{s,A}^{2θ-2})(-Δ)_A^su+V(x)u=f(x,|u|)u\,\, \quad \text{in $\mathbb{R}^N$}, \end{equation*} where $s\in (0,1)$, $N>2s$, $a\in \mathbb{R}^+_0$, $b\in \mathbb{R}^+_0$, $θ\in[1,N/(N-2s))$, $A:\mathbb{R}^N\rightarrow\mathbb{R}^N$ is a magnetic potential, $V:\mathbb{R}^N\rightarrow \mathbb{R}^+$ is an electric potential, $(-Δ)_A^s$ is the fractional magnetic operator. In the super- and sub-linear cases, the existence of least energy solutions for the above problem is obtained by the mountain pass theorem, combined with the Nehari method, and by the direct methods respectively. In the superlinear-sublinear case, the existence of infinitely many solutions is investigated by the symmetric mountain pass theorem.

Uniqueness of limit flow for a class of quasi-linear parabolic equations

We investigate the issue of uniqueness of the limit flow for a relevant class of quasi-linear parabolic equations defined on the whole space. More precisely, we shall investigate conditions which guarantee that the global solutions decay at infinity uniformly in time and their entire trajectory approaches a single steady state as time goes to infinity. Finally, we obtain a characterization of solutions which blow-up, vanish or converge to a stationary state for initial data of the form $λφ_0$ while $λ>0$ crosses a bifurcation value $λ_0$.

Critical fractional $p$-Laplacian problems with possibly vanishing potentials

We obtain nontrivial solutions of a critical fractional $p$-Laplacian equation in the whole space and with possibly vanishing potentials. In addition to the usual difficulty of the lack of compactness associated with problems involving critical Sobolev exponents, the problem is further complicated by the absence of a direct sum decomposition suitable for applying classical linking arguments. We overcome this difficulty using a generalized linking construction based on the ${\mathbb Z}_2$-cohomological index.

Eigenvalues for double phase variational integrals

We study an eigenvalue problem in the framework of double phase variational integrals and we introduce a sequence of nonlinear eigenvalues by a minimax procedure. We establish a continuity result for the nonlinear eigenvalues with respect to the variations of the phases. Furthermore, we investigate the growth rate of this sequence and get a Weyl-type law consistent with the classical law for the $p$-Laplacian operator when the two phases agree.

Ground states of nonlocal scalar field equations with Trudinger-Moser critical nonlinearity

We investigate the existence of ground state solutions for a class of nonlinear scalar field equations defined on whole real line, involving a fractional Laplacian and nonlinearities with Trudinger-Moser critical growth. We handle the lack of compactness of the associated energy functional due to the unboundedness of the domain and the presence of a limiting case embedding.

Nonlocal problems at nearly critical growth

We study the asymptotic behavior of solutions to the nonlocal nonlinear equation $(-Δ_p)^s u=|u|^{q-2}u$ in a bounded domain $Ω\subset{\mathbb R}^N$ as $q$ approaches the critical Sobolev exponent $p^*=Np/(N-ps)$. We prove that ground state solutions concentrate at a single point $\bar x\in \overlineΩ$ and analyze the asymptotic behavior for sequences of solutions at higher energy levels. In the semi-linear case $p=2,$ we prove that for smooth domains the concentration point $\bar x$ cannot lie on the boundary, and identify its location in the case of annular domains.

The Brezis-Nirenberg problem for the fractional $p$-Laplacian

We obtain nontrivial solutions to the Brezis-Nirenberg problem for the fractional $p$-Laplacian operator, extending some results in the literature for the fractional Laplacian. The quasilinear case presents two serious new difficulties. First an explicit formula for a minimizer in the fractional Sobolev inequality is not available when $p \ne 2$. We get around this difficulty by working with certain asymptotic estimates for minimizers recently obtained by Brasco, Mosconi and Squassina. The second difficulty is the lack of a direct sum decomposition suitable for applying the classical linking theorem. We use an abstract linking theorem based on the cohomological index proved by Perera and Yang to overcome this difficulty.

A note on the Dancer-Fucik spectra of the fractional p-Laplacian and Laplacian operators

We study the Dancer-Fucik spectrum of the fractional p-Laplacian operator. We construct an unbounded sequence of decreasing curves in the spectrum using a suitable minimax scheme. For p=2, we present a very accurate local analysis. We construct the minimal and maximal curves of the spectrum locally near the points where it intersects the main diagonal of the plane. We give a sufficient condition for the region between them to be nonempty, and show that it is free of the spectrum in the case of a simple eigenvalue. Finally we compute the critical groups in various regions separated by these curves. We compute them precisely in certain regions, and prove a shifting theorem that gives a finite-dimensional reduction in certain other regions. This allows us to obtain nontrivial solutions of perturbed problems with nonlinearities crossing a curve of the spectrum via a comparison of the critical groups at zero and infinity.

Existence results for fractional p-Laplacian problems via Morse theory

We investigate a class of quasi-linear nonlocal problems, including as a particular case semi-linear problems involving the fractional Laplacian and arising in the framework of continuum mechanics, phase transition phenomena, population dynamics and game theory. Under different growth assumptions on the reaction term, we obtain various existence as well as finite multiplicity results by means of variational and topological methods and, in particular, arguments from Morse theory.

Ground states for scalar field equations with anisotropic nonlocal nonlinearities

We consider a class of scalar field equations with anisotropic nonlocal nonlinearities. We obtain a suitable extension of the well-known compactness lemma of Benci and Cerami to this variable exponent setting, and use it to prove that the Palais-Smale condition holds at all level below a certain threshold. We deduce the existence of a ground state when the variable exponent slowly approaches the limit at infinity from below.

On the logarithmic Schrodinger equation

In the framework of the nonsmooth critical point theory for lower semi-continuous functionals, we propose a direct variational approach to investigate the existence of infinitely many weak solutions for a class of semi-linear elliptic equations with logarithmic nonlinearity arising in physically relevant situations. Furthermore, we prove that there exists a unique positive solution which is radially symmetric and nondegenerate.

Finding critical points whose polarization is also a critical point

We show that near any given minimizing sequence of paths for the mountain pass lemma, there exists a critical point whose polarization is also a critical point. This is motivated by the fact that if any polarization of a critical point is also a critical point and the Euler-Lagrange equation is a second-order semi-linear elliptic problem, T. Bartsch, T. Weth and M. Willem (J. Anal. Math., 2005) have proved that the critical point is axially symmetric.

On the Palais principle for non-smooth functionals

If $G$ is a compact Lie group acting linearly on a Banach space $X$ and $f$ is a $G$-invariant function on $X$, we provide new versions of the so-called Palais' criticality principle for $f:X\to\bar\R$, in the framework of non-smooth critical point theory. We apply the results to a class of PDEs associated with functionals which are merely lower semi-continuous and could not be treated by previous versions of the principle.
