Existence, multiplicity and classification results for solutions to $k$-Hessian equations with general weights

The aim of this paper is to study negative classical solutions to a $k$-Hessian equation involving a nonlinearity with a general weight \begin{equation} \label{Eq:Ma:0} \tag{$P$} \begin{cases} S_k(D^2u)= λρ(|x|) (1-u)^q &\mbox{in }\;\; B,\\ u=0 &\mbox{on }\partial B. \end{cases} \end{equation} Here, $B$ denotes the unit ball in $\mathbb R^n\!$, $n>2k$, $λ$ is a positive parameter and $q>k$ with $k\in \mathbb N$. The function $rρ'(r)/ρ(r)$ satisfies very general conditions in the radial direction $r=|x|$. We show the existence, nonexistence, and multiplicity of solutions to Problem \eqref{Eq:Ma:0}. The main technique used for the proofs is a phase-plane analysis related to a non-autonomous dynamical system associated to the equation in \eqref{Eq:Ma:0}. Further, using the aforementioned non-autonomous system, we give a comprehensive characterization of $P_2$-, $P_3^+$-, $P_4^+$-solutions to the related problem \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} S_k(D^2 w)= ρ(|x|) (-w)^q, \\ w<0, \end{cases} \end{equation*} given on the entire space $\mathbb R^n\!$. In particular, we describe new classes of solutions: fast decay $P^+_3$-solutions and $P_4^+$-solutions.

Singular solutions to $k$-Hessian equations with fast-growing nonlinearities

We study a class of elliptic problems, involving a $k$-Hessian and a very fast-growing nonlinearity, on a unit ball. We prove the existence of a radial singular solution and obtain its exact asymptotic behavior in a neighborhood of the origin. Furthermore, we study the multiplicity of regular solutions and bifurcation diagrams. An essential ingredient of this study is analyzing the number of intersection points between the singular and regular solutions for rescaled problems. In the particular case of the exponential nonlinearity, we obtain the convergence of regular solutions to the singular and analyze the intersection number depending on the parameter $k$ and the dimension $d$.

Gaussian density estimates for solutions of fully coupled forward-backward SDEs

We obtain upper and lower Gaussian density estimates for the law of each component of the solution to a one-dimensional fully coupled forward-backward SDE (FBSDE). Our approach relies on the link between FBSDEs and quasilinear parabolic PDEs, and is fully based on the use of classical results on PDEs rather than on manipulation of FBSDEs, compared to other papers on this topic. This essentially simplifies the analysis.

Uniform approximation of the heat kernel on a manifold

We approximate the heat kernel $h(x,y,t)$ on a compact connected Riemannian manifold $M$ without boundary uniformly in $(x,y,t)\in M\times M\times [a,b]$, $a>0$, by $n$-fold integrals over $M^n$ of the densities of Brownian bridges. Moreover, we provide an estimate for the uniform convergence rate. As an immediate corollary, we get a uniform approximation of solutions of the Cauchy problem for the heat equation on $M$.

Solution to the Navier-Stokes equations with random initial data

We construct a solution to the spatially periodic $d$-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with a given distribution of the initial data. The solution takes values in the Sobolev space $H^α$, where the index $α\in R$ is fixed arbitrary. The distribution of the initial value is a Gaussian measure on $H^α$ whose parameters depend on $α$. The Navier-Stokes solution is then a stochastic process verifying the Navier-Stokes equations almost surely. It is obtained as a limit in distribution of solutions to finite-dimensional ODEs which are Galerkin-type approximations for the Navier-Stokes equations. Moreover, the constructed Navier-Stokes solution $U(t,ω)$ possesses the property: $$E[f(U(t,ω))] = \int_{H^α} f(e^{tνΔ} u) γ(du)$$, where $f \in L_1(γ)$, $e^{t Δ}$ is the heat semigroup, $ν$ is the viscosity in the Navier-Stokes equations, and $γ$ is the distribution of the initial data.

Path-dependent Itô formulas under finite $(p,q)$-variation regularity

In this work, we establish pathwise functional Itô formulas for non-smooth functionals of real-valued continuous semimartingales. Under finite $(p,q)$-variation regularity assumptions in the sense of two-dimensional Young integration theory, we establish a pathwise local-time decomposition $$F_t(X_t) = F_0(X_0)+ \int_0^t\nabla^hF_s(X_s)ds + \int_0^t\nabla^wF_s(X_s)dX(s) - \frac{1}{2}\int_{-\infty}^{+\infty}\int_0^t(\nabla^w_xF_s)(^{x}X_s)d_{(s,x)}\ell^x(s).$$ Here, $X_t= \{X(s); 0\le s\le t\}$ is the continuous semimartingale path up to time $t\in [0,T]$, $\nabla^h$ is the horizontal derivative, $(\nabla^w_x F_s)(^{x}X_s)$ is a weak derivative of $F$ with respect to the terminal value $x$ of the modified path $^{x}X_s$ and $\nabla^w F_s(X_s) = (\nabla^w_x F_s)(^{x} X_s)|_{x=X(s)}$. The double integral is interpreted as a space-time 2D-Young integral with differential $d_{(s,x)}\ell^x(s)$, where $\ell$ is the local-time of $X$. Under less restrictive joint variation assumptions on $(\nabla^w_x F_t)(^{x} X_t)$, functional Itô formulas are established when $X$ is a stable symmetric process. Singular cases when $x\mapsto (\nabla^w_x F_t)(^{x}X_t)$ is smooth off random bounded variation curves are also discussed. The results of this paper extend previous change of variable formulas in Cont and Fournié and also Peskir, Feng and Zhao and Elworhty, Truman and Zhao in the context of path-dependent functionals. In particular, we provide a pathwise path-dependent version of the classical Föllmer-Protter-Shiryaev formula for continuous semimartingales.

A version of Hörmander's theorem in 2-smooth Banach spaces

We consider a stochastic evolution equation in a 2-smooth Banach space with a densely and continuously embedded Hilbert subspace. We prove that under Hörmander's bracket condition, the image measure of the solution law under any finite-rank bounded linear operator is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure. To obtain this result, we apply methods of the Malliavin calculus.

Forward-Backward SDEs driven by Lévy Processes and Application to Option Pricing

Recent developments on financial markets have revealed the limits of Brownian motion pricing models when they are applied to actual markets. Lévy processes, that admit jumps over time, have been found more useful for applications. Thus, we suggest a Lévy model based on Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (FBSDEs) for option pricing in a Lévy-type market. We show the existence and uniqueness of a solution to FBSDEs driven by a Lévy process. This result is important from the mathematical point of view, and also, provides a much more realistic approach to option pricing.

Chernoff's theorem for backward propagators and applications to diffusions on manifolds

The classical Chernoff's theorem is a statement about discrete-time approximations of semigroups, where the approximations are consturcted as products of time-dependent contraction operators strongly differentiable at zero. We generalize the version of Chernoff's theorem for semigroups proved in a paper by Smolyanov et al., and obtain a theorem about descrete-time approximations of backward propagators.

Navier-Stokes equations and forward-backward SDEs on the group of diffeomorphisms of a torus

We establish a connection between the strong solution to the spatially periodic Navier-Stokes equations and a solution to a system of forward-backward stochastic differential equations (FBSDEs) on the group of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms of a flat torus. We construct representations of the strong solution to the Navier-Stokes equations in terms of diffusion processes.
