A search for feebly-interacting particles in BB decays with missing energy at Belle

We present a search for an invisible hidden-sector particle Xinv X_{\rm{inv}}, produced in B0→Dˉ0XinvB^0 \to \bar{D}^0 X_{\rm{inv}} and B±→hXinvB^\pm\to h X_{\rm{inv}} decays, where h=π±h = π^\pm, K±K^\pm, Ds±D_{s}^\pm, p±p^\pm. The search is performed using e+e−e^+ e^- collision data recorded with the Belle detector, corresponding to 711~fb−1^{-1}. No significant signal is observed. We set 90\% confidence level upper limits ranging between 10−410^{-4} and 10−610^{-6} on the branching fraction B(B→hXinv)\mathcal{B}(B \to h X_{\rm{inv}}) as a function of mXinvm_{ X_{\rm{inv}}}. Corresponding limits are set on B(B→hX)×B(X→γγ)\mathcal{B}(B \to hX)\times\mathcal{B}(X\toγγ) for lifetimes cτXcτ_X between 10 μ10~μm and 10 m. Many of these limits are the first direct constraints on their respective decays. Our results provide the most stringent exclusion limits to date on the branching fractions for all search channels, and exclude previously unexplored regions of parameter space relevant to several new physics models.

Search for an Axion-Like Particle in B→K(∗)a(→γγ)B\rightarrow K^{(*)} a (\rightarrowγγ) Decays at Belle

We report a search for an axion-like particle aa in B→K(∗)a(→γγ)B\rightarrow K^{(*)} a (\rightarrowγγ) decays using data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy electron-positron collider. The search is based on a 711fb−1711 \mathrm{fb^{-1}} data sample collected at the Υ4SΥ4S resonance energy, corresponding to a sample of 772×106772\times10^6 Υ4SΥ4S events. In this study, we search for the decay of the axion-like particle into a pair of photons, a→γγa \rightarrow γγ. We scan the two-photon invariant mass in the range 0.16 GeV/c2−4.50 GeV/c20.16\ \mathrm{GeV/}c^2-4.50\ \mathrm{GeV}/c^2 for the KK modes and 0.16 GeV/c2−4.20 GeV/c20.16\ \mathrm{GeV/}c^2-4.20\ \mathrm{GeV}/c^2 for the K∗K^{*} modes. No significant signal is observed in any of the modes, and 90\% confidence level upper limits are established on the coupling to the WW boson, gaWg_aW, as a function of aa mass. The limits range from 3×10−6GeV−13 \times 10^{-6} \mathrm{GeV}^{-1} to 3×10−5GeV−13 \times 10^{-5} \mathrm{GeV}^{-1}, improving the current constraints on gaWg_aW by a factor of two over the most stringent previous experimental results.

Measurement of branching fractions and direct CPCP asymmetries for B→KπB \to Kπ and B→ππB\toππ decays at Belle II

We report measurements of the branching fractions and direct CP\it{CP} asymmetries of the decays B0→K+π−B^0 \to K^+ π^-, B+→K+π0B^+ \to K^+ π^0, B+→K0π+B^+ \to K^0 π^+, and B0→K0π0B^0 \to K^0 π^0, and use these for testing the standard model through an isospin-based sum rule. In addition, we measure the branching fraction and direct CP\it{CP} asymmetry of the decay B+→π+π0B^+ \to π^+π^0 and the branching fraction of the decay B0→π+π−B^0 \to π^+π^-. The data are collected with the Belle II detector from e+e−e^+e^- collisions at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance produced by the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy collider and contain 387×106387\times 10^6 bottom-antibottom meson pairs. Signal yields are determined in two-dimensional fits to background-discriminating variables, and range from 500 to 3900 decays, depending on the channel. We obtain −0.03±0.13±0.04-0.03 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.04 for the sum rule, in agreement with the standard model expectation of zero and with a precision comparable to the best existing determinations.

Measurement of the B0→D∗−ℓ+νℓB^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} branching ratio and ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| with a fully reconstructed accompanying BB meson in 2019-2021 Belle II data

We present a measurement of the B0→D∗−ℓ+νℓB^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} (ℓ=e,μ\ell=e,μ) branching ratio and of the CKM parameter ∣Vcb∣|V_{cb}| using signal decays accompanied by a fully reconstructed BB meson. The Belle II data set of electron-positron collisions at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance, corresponding to 189.3 \,fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity, is analyzed. With the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert form factor parameterization, the parameters ηEWF(1)∣Vcb∣η_{\rm EW} F(1) |V_{cb}| and ρ2ρ^{2} are extracted, where ηEWη_{\rm EW} is an electroweak correction, F(1)F(1) is a normalization factor and ρ2ρ^{2} is a form factor shape parameter. We reconstruct 516 signal decays and thereby obtain B(B0→D∗−ℓ+νℓ)=(5.27±0.22 (stat)±0.38 (syst))%\mathcal{B} (B^{0} \rightarrow D^{*-} \ell^{+} ν_{\ell} ) = \left(5.27 \pm 0.22~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.38~\rm{\left(syst\right)}\right) \%, ηEWF(1)∣Vcb∣×103=34.6±1.8 (stat)±1.7 (syst)η_{EW} F(1) |V_{cb}| \times 10^{3} = 34.6 \pm 1.8~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 1.7~\rm{\left(syst\right)}, and ρ2=0.94±0.18 (stat)±0.11 (syst)ρ^{2} = 0.94 \pm 0.18~\rm{\left(stat\right)} \pm 0.11~\rm{\left(syst\right)}.

BB-flavor tagging at Belle II

We report on new flavor tagging algorithms developed to determine the quark-flavor content of bottom (BB) mesons at Belle II. The algorithms provide essential inputs for measurements of quark-flavor mixing and charge-parity violation. We validate and evaluate the performance of the algorithms using hadronic BB decays with flavor-specific final states reconstructed in a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 62.862.8 fb−1^{-1}, collected at the ΥΥ(4SS) resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We measure the total effective tagging efficiency to be εeff=(30.0±1.2(stat)±0.4(syst))%\varepsilon_{\rm eff} = \big(30.0 \pm 1.2(\text{stat}) \pm 0.4(\text{syst})\big)\% for a category-based algorithm and εeff=(28.8±1.2(stat)±0.4(syst))%\varepsilon_{\rm eff} = \big(28.8 \pm 1.2(\text{stat}) \pm 0.4(\text{syst})\big)\% for a deep-learning-based algorithm.

Belle II Executive Summary

Belle II is a Super BB Factory experiment, expected to record 50 ab−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collisions at the SuperKEKB accelerator until 2035. The large samples of BB mesons, charm hadrons, and tau leptons produced in the clean experimental environment of e+e−e^+e^- collisions will provide the basis of a broad and unique flavor-physics program. Belle II will pursue physics beyond the Standard Model in many ways, for example: improving the precision of weak interaction parameters, particularly Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements and phases, and thus more rigorously test the CKM paradigm, measuring lepton-flavor-violating parameters, and performing unique searches for missing-mass dark matter events. Many key measurements will be made with world-leading precision.

Belle II grid-based user analysis

The Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB accelerator is a next-generation B-factory aiming to collect 50 ab−1^{-1}, about 50 times the data collected at Belle, to study rare processes and make precision measurements that may expose physics beyond the Standard Model. Corresponding to roughly 100 PB of storage for raw data, plus dozens of PBs per year for Monte Carlo (MC) and analysis data, these massive samples require careful planning for the storage, processing, and analysis of data. This white paper notes some of the challenges that await grid-based user-analysis at the intensity frontier and invites further discussion and exploration to improve the tools and techniques necessary to leverage the massive data samples that will be available at Belle II as part of the Snowmass process.

Charm lifetime measurements at Belle II

Upgrades at the Belle II experiment and the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider enable precise measurements of particle decays. Even with early data, Belle II has made several world-leading measurements of particle lifetimes, which are useful as tests of effective models used in searches for physics beyond the standard model. Especially for charm hadrons, these effective models depend on careful consideration of non-perturbative effects to give an adequate description of lifetimes. Recent measurements at other experiments have stimulated particular interest in charm baryons, including several measurements that indicate the hierarchy of lifetimes is different than once believed. The measurements of the D+D^+, D0D^0, and Λc+Λ_c^+ lifetimes at Belle II are consistent with previous measurements, but with improved precision. These measurements will improve the world-average values, provide refined tests for effective models, and serve as benchmarks for future measurements.

SuperKEKB electron-positron collision data corresponding to 189~fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity and containing 198×106BBˉ198 \times 10^6 B\bar{B} pairs collected with the Belle II detector are used. We obtain \begin{eqnarray*} \mathcal{B}(B^0\toρ^+ρ^-) &=& [2.67\pm0.28\,(\mathrm{stat})\,\pm0.28\,(\mathrm{syst})] \times 10^{-5}, \end{eqnarray*} \begin{eqnarray*} f_L &=& 0.956\pm0.035\,(\mathrm{stat})\,\pm 0.033\,(\mathrm{syst}), \end{eqnarray*} These results are consistent with previous measurements and can be used to constrain penguin pollution and to extract the quark-mixing angle ϕ2ϕ_2.

Snowmass 2021 White Paper on Upgrading SuperKEKB with a Polarized Electron Beam: Discovery Potential and Proposed Implementation

Upgrading the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider with polarized electron beams opens a new program of precision physics at a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. This white paper describes the physics potential of this `Chiral Belle' program. It includes projections for precision measurements of sin⁡2θW\sin^2θ_W that can be obtained from independent left-right asymmetry measurements of e+e−e^+e^- transitions to pairs of electrons, muons, taus, charm and b-quarks. The sin⁡2θW\sin^2θ_W precision obtainable at SuperKEKB will match that of the LEP/SLC world average, but at the centre-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. Measurements of the couplings for muons, charm, and bb-quarks will be substantially improved and the existing 3σ3σ discrepancy between the SLC ALRA_{LR} and LEP AFBbA_{FB}^b measurements will be addressed. Precision measurements of neutral current universality will be more than an order of magnitude more precise than currently available. As the energy scale is well away from the Z0Z^0-pole, the precision measurements will have sensitivity to the presence of a parity-violating dark sector gauge boson, ZdarkZ_{\rm dark}. The program also enables the measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment g−2g-2 form factor of the ττ to be made at an unprecedented level of precision. A precision of 10−510^{-5} level is accessible with 40~ab−1^{-1} and with more data it would start to approach the 10−610^{-6} level. This technique would provide the most precise information from the third generation about potential new physics explanations of the muon g−2g-2 4σ4σ anomaly. Additional ττ and QCD physics programs enabled or enhanced with having polarized electron beams are also discussed in this White Paper. This paper includes a summary of the path forward in R&D and next steps required to implement this upgrade and access its exciting discovery potential.

The reconstruction of tau-pair production, e+e−→τ+τ−e^{+}e^{-} \to τ^{+}τ^{-}, from the subsequent 3-prong (τ+→π+π−π+νˉττ^{+} \rightarrow π^{+} π^{-} π^{+} \barν_τ) and 1-prong (τ−→ℓ−νˉℓνττ^{-} \to \ell^{-} \barν_{\ell} ν_τ, τ−→h−νττ^{-} \to h^{-} ν_τ or τ−→π−π0νττ^{-} \to π^{-} π^0 ν_τ) decays, is presented using 8.8 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collision data of Belle II at the center-of-mass energy s=mΥ(4S)\sqrt{s} = m_{Υ(4S)}. The pseudomass technique developed by the ARGUS experiment is used to measure the ττ-lepton mass mτm_τ in the 3-prong τ+→π+π−π+νˉττ^{+} \to π^{+} π^{-} π^{+} \barν_τ decay, resulting in mτ=1777.28±0.75 (stat.)±0.33 (sys.) MeV/c2m_τ = 1777.28 \pm 0.75~{\rm (stat.)} \pm 0.33 ~{\rm (sys.)}~{\rm{MeV}/\rm{c}^2}.

Combined analysis of Belle and Belle II data to determine the CKM angle ϕ3 ϕ_{3} using B+→D(KS0h−h+)h+B^+ \to D(K_{S}^0 h^- h^+) h^+ decays

We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity triangle angle ϕ3 ϕ_{3} (also known as~γγ) using a model-independent Dalitz plot analysis of \linebreak B+→D(KS0h+h−)h+B^+\to D\left(K_{S}^{0}h^{+}h^{-}\right)h^+, where DD is either a D0D^0 or Dˉ0\bar{D}{}^0 meson and hh is either a ππ or KK. This is the first measurement that simultaneously uses Belle and Belle~II data, combining samples corresponding to integrated luminosities of \SI{711}{fb^{-1}} and \SI{128}{fb^{-1}}, respectively. All data were accumulated from energy-asymmetric e+e−e^+e^- collisions at a centre-of-mass energy corresponding to the mass of the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance. We measure ϕ3=(78.4±11.4±0.5±1.0)∘ϕ_3 = \left(78.4 \pm 11.4 \pm 0.5 \pm 1.0 \right)^{\circ}, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic uncertainty and the third is from the uncertainties on external measurements of the DD-decay strong-phase parameters.

Evidence for Zc±Z_{c}^{\pm} decays into the ρ±ηcρ^{\pm} η_{c} final state

We study e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collisions with a π+π−π0ηcπ^{+}π^{-}π^{0}η_{c} final state using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies s=4.226\sqrt{s}=4.226, 4.2584.258, 4.3584.358, 4.4164.416, and 4.6004.600 GeV. Evidence for the decay $\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac$ is reported with a statistical significance of 3.9σ3.9σ with various systematic uncertainties taken into account at s=4.226\sqrt{s} = 4.226 GeV, and the Born cross section times branching fraction $σ^{B}(\EE\to \pimp\zcpm)\times \BR(\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac)$ is measured to be (48±11±11) pb(48 \pm 11 \pm 11)\,\rm{pb}. The $\zcpm\to \rhopm\etac$ signal is not significant at the other center-of-mass energies and the corresponding upper limits are determined. In addition, no significant signal is observed in a search for $\zcppm\to ρ^{\pm}\etac$ with the same data samples. The ratios $R_{\zc}=\BR(\zcpm\to ρ^{\pm} \etac)/\BR(\zcpm\to π^{\pm} \jpsi)$ and $R_{\zcp}=\BR(\zcppm\to ρ^{\pm} \etac)/\BR(\zcppm\to π^{\pm} \hc)$ are obtained and used to discriminate between different theoretical interpretations of the $\zcpm$ and $\zcppm$.

Evidence of the four-quark nature of f0(980)f_0(980) and f0(500)f_0(500)

There exists a great deal of concrete evidence in favor of the exotic four-quark nature of light scalars. At the same time, the further expansion of the area of the q2qˉ2q^2\bar q^2 model validity for light scalars on ever new processes seems extremely interesting and important. We analyze the BESIII data on the decay J/ψ→γπ0π0J/ψ\to γπ^0π^0 and show that the results of this high-statistics experiment can be interpreted in favor of the four-quark nature of light scalar mesons f0(980)f_0(980) and f0(500)f_0(500).

Measurement of the e+e−→Σ0Σˉ0e^{+}e^{-}\toΣ^{0}\barΣ^{0} cross sections at center-of-mass energies from 2.38642.3864 to 3.02003.0200 GeV

The Born cross sections of e+e−→Σ0Σˉ0e^{+}e^{-}\to Σ^{0}\barΣ^{0} are measured at center-of-mass energies from 2.38642.3864 to 3.02003.0200 GeV using data samples with an integrated luminosity of 328.5328.5 pb−1^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The analysis makes use of a novel reconstruction method for energies near production threshold, while a single-tag method is employed at other center-of-mass energies. The measured cross sections are consistent with earlier results from BaBar, with a substantially improved precision. The cross-section lineshape can be well described by a perturbative QCD-driven energy function. In addition, the effective form factors of the Σ0Σ^{0} baryon are determined. The results provide precise experimental input for testing various theoretical predictions.

A calibration of the Belle II hadronic tag-side reconstruction algorithm with B→XℓνB \rightarrow X\ell ν decays

Tag-side reconstruction is an important method for reconstructing BB meson decays with missing energy. The Belle II tag-side reconstruction algorithm, Full Event Interpretation, relies on a hierarchical reconstruction of BB meson decays with multivariate classification employed at each stage of reconstruction. Given the large numbers of classifiers employed and decay chains reconstructed, the performance of the algorithm on data and simulation differs significantly. Here, calibration factors are derived for hadronic tag-side BB decays by measuring a signal side decay, B→XℓνB \rightarrow X\ell ν, in 34.634.6 fb−1^{-1} of Belle II data. For a very loose selection on the tag-side BB multivariate classifier, the calibration factors are 0.65±0.020.65 \pm 0.02 and 0.83±0.030.83 \pm 0.03 for tag-side B+B^{+} and B0B^{0} mesons, respectively.

We report on the reconstruction of various charmless BB decays from electron-positron collisions at the energy corresponding to the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We use simulation to devise optimized event selections and apply them to the full data set collected in 2019, corresponding to 8.7\,fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. We fit the difference between half of the collision energy and the BB candidate energy (in the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) frame) for events restricted to a signal-rich range in beam-energy-constrained mass to search for charmless signals. Signal yields of approximately 80, 15, 20, 30, 90, and 160 decays are reconstructed for the channels B0→K+π−B^0 \to K^+π^-, B0→π+π−B^0 \to π^+π^-, B+→KS0(→π+π−)π+B^+ \to K^0_S(\to π^+π^-)π^+, B+→K+π0(→γγ)B^+ \to K^+π^0(\to γγ), B+→K+K−K+B^+ \to K^+K^-K^+, and B+→K+π−π+B^+ \to K^+π^-π^+, respectively. Yields and background contaminations are compatible with those expected from simulation and comparable with those obtained by the Belle experiment. The results show a good understanding of the detector performance and offer a reliable basis to assess projections for future reach.

Cross section measurement of e+e−→η′J/ψe^+e^- \rightarrow η'J/ψ from s=4.178\sqrt{s} = 4.178 to 4.6004.600 GeV

The cross section of the process e+e−→η′J/ψe^+e^- \rightarrow η'J/ψ is measured at center-of-mass energies from s=\sqrt{s} = 4.178 to 4.600 GeV using data samples corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 11 fb−1^{-1} collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. The dependence of the cross section on s\sqrt{s} shows an enhancement around 4.24.2 GeV. While the shape of the cross section cannot be fully explained with a single ψ(4160)ψ(4160) or ψ(4260)ψ(4260) state, a coherent sum of the two states does provide a reasonable description of the data.

Determination of strong-phase parameters in D→KS,L0π+π−D\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-

We report the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters between D0D^0 and Dˉ0\bar{D}^0 decays to KS,L0π+π−K^0_{S,L}π^+π^- using a sample of 2.93 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Our results provide the key inputs for a binned model-independent determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3 with BB decays. Using our results, the decay model sensitivity to the γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3 measurement is expected to be between 0.7∘^{\circ} and 1.2∘^{\circ}, approximately a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements. The improved precision of this work ensures that measurements of γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3 will not be limited by knowledge of strong phases for the next decade. Furthermore, our results provide critical input for other flavor-physics investigations, including charm mixing, other measurements of CPCP violation, and the measurement of strong-phase parameters for other DD-decay modes.

We present the results of the re-discovery of the decay B0→π−ℓ+νℓB^0 \to π^- \ell^+ ν_\ell in 34.6 fb−1^{-1} of Belle II data using hadronic BB-tagging via the Full Event Interpretation algorithm. First flavor tagging calibration using 2019 Belle II data

We report on the first calibration of the standard Belle II BB-flavor tagger using the full data set collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4{\rm S}) resonance in 2019 with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider, corresponding to 8.7 fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. The calibration is performed by reconstructing various hadronic charmed BB-meson decays with flavor-specific final states. We use simulation to optimize our event selection criteria and to train the flavor tagging algorithm. We determine the tagging efficiency and the fraction of wrongly identified tag-side BB~candidates from a measurement of the time-integrated B0−B‾0B^0-\overline{B}^0 mixing probability. The total effective efficiency is measured to be εeff=(33.8±3.6(stat)±1.6(sys))%\varepsilon_{\rm eff} = \big(33.8 \pm 3.6(\text{stat}) \pm 1.6(\text{sys})\big)\%, which is in good agreement with the predictions from simulation and comparable with the best one obtained by the Belle experiment. The results show a good understanding of the detector performance and offer a basis for future calibrations.

First Measurements of χcJ→Σ−Σˉ+(J=0,1,2)χ_{cJ}\rightarrow Σ^{-} \barΣ^{+} (J = 0, 1, 2) Decays

We measured the branching fractions of the decays χcJ→Σ−Σˉ+χ_{cJ}\toΣ^{-}\barΣ^{+} for the first time using the final states nnˉπ+π−n\bar{n}π^{+}π^{-}. The data sample exploited here is 448.1×106448.1\times10^{6} ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with BESIII. Future Physics Programme of BESIII

There has recently been a dramatic renewal of interest in the subjects of hadron spectroscopy and charm physics. This renaissance has been driven in part by the discovery of a plethora of charmonium-like XYZXYZ states at BESIII and BB factories, and the observation of an intriguing proton-antiproton threshold enhancement and the possibly related X(1835)X(1835) meson state at BESIII, as well as the threshold measurements of charm mesons and charm baryons. We present a detailed survey of the important topics in tau-charm physics and hadron physics that can be further explored at BESIII over the remaining lifetime of BEPCII operation. This survey will help in the optimization of the data-taking plan over the coming years, and provides physics motivation for the possible upgrade of BEPCII to higher luminosity.

Inclusive charged and neutral particle multiplicity distributions in χcJχ_{cJ} and J/ψJ/ψ decays

Using a sample of 106 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) decays, ψ(3686)→γχcJ(J=0,1,2)ψ(3686) \to γχ_{cJ} (J = 0, 1, 2) and ψ(3686)→γχcJ,χcJ→γJ/ψψ(3686) \to γχ_{cJ}, χ_{cJ} \to γJ/ψ (J=1,2)(J = 1, 2) events are utilized to study inclusive χcJ→χ_{cJ} \to anything, χcJ→χ_{cJ} \to hadrons, and J/ψ→J/ψ\to anything distributions, including distributions of the number of charged tracks, electromagnetic calorimeter showers, and π0π^0s, and to compare them with distributions obtained from the BESIII Monte Carlo simulation. Information from each Monte Carlo simulated decay event is used to construct matrices connecting the detected distributions to the input predetection "produced" distributions. Assuming these matrices also apply to data, they are used to predict the analogous produced distributions of the decay events. Using these, the charged particle multiplicities are compared with results from MARK I. Further, comparison of the distributions of the number of photons in data with those in Monte Carlo simulation indicates that G-parity conservation should be taken into consideration in the simulation.

This is consistent with previous measurements with an improved precision. The angular parameter for this decay is measured for the first time and is found to be α=−0.21±0.04stat.±0.06syst.α=-0.21\pm0.04_{\rm stat.}\pm0.06_{\rm syst.}. In addition, we report evidence for the radiative decay Ξ(1530)−→γΞ−Ξ(1530)^{-}\toγΞ^- with a significance of 3.9σσ, including the systematic uncertainties. The 90\% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction is determined to be B(Ξ(1530)−→γΞ−)≤3.7\mathcal{B}(Ξ(1530)^{-}\toγΞ^- )\leq3.7\%.

Measurement of Hadronic Mass Moments ⟨MXn⟩\langle M_X^n \rangle in B→XcℓνB \rightarrow X_c \ell ν Decays at Belle II

We present measurements of the first six hadronic mass moments in semileptonic B→XcℓνB \rightarrow X_c \ell ν decays. The hadronic mass moments, together with other observables of inclusive BB decays, can be used to determine the CKM matrix element ∣Vcb∣|{V_{cb}}| and mass of the bb-quark mbm_b in the context of Heavy Quark Expansions of QCD. The Belle~II data recorded at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance in 2019 and 2020 (March-July), corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 34.6  fb−134.6\;\mathrm{fb}^{-1}, is used for this measurement. The decay Υ(4S)→BB‾Υ(4S) \rightarrow B \overline{B} is reconstructed by applying the hadronic tagging algorithm provided by the Full Event Interpretation to fully reconstruct one BB meson. The second BB meson is reconstructed inclusively by selecting a high-momentum lepton. The XcX_c system is identified by the remaining reconstructed tracks and clusters in the electromagnetic calorimeter. We report preliminary results for the hadronic mass moments ⟨MXn⟩\langle M_X^n \rangle with n=1,…,6n=1,\dots,6, measured as a function of a lower cut on the lepton momentum in the signal BB rest frame.

Measurement of proton electromagnetic form factors in e+e−→ppˉe^+e^- \to p\bar{p} in the energy region 2.00-3.08 GeV

The process of e+e−→ppˉe^+e^- \rightarrow p\bar{p} is studied at 22 center-of-mass energy points (s\sqrt{s}) from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV, exploiting 688.5~pb−1^{-1} of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section~(σppˉσ_{p\bar{p}}) of e+e−→ppˉe^+e^- \rightarrow p\bar{p} is measured with the energy-scan technique and it is found to be consistent with previously published data, but with much improved accuracy. In addition, the electromagnetic form-factor ratio (∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}|) and the value of the effective (∣Geff∣|G_{\rm{eff}}|), electric (∣GE∣|G_E|) and magnetic (∣GM∣|G_M|) form factors are measured by studying the helicity angle of the proton at 16 center-of-mass energy points. ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}| and ∣GM∣|G_M| are determined with high accuracy, providing uncertainties comparable to data in the space-like region, and ∣GE∣|G_E| is measured for the first time. We reach unprecedented accuracy, and precision results in the time-like region provide information to improve our understanding of the proton inner structure and to test theoretical models which depend on non-perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics.

Using 2.93 fb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collision data taken at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII, we measure the branching fractions of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays D→ωππD \to ωππ to be B(D0→ωπ+π−)=(1.33±0.16±0.12)×10−3\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to ωπ^+π^-) = (1.33 \pm 0.16 \pm 0.12)\times 10^{-3} and B(D+→ωπ+π0)=(3.87±0.83±0.25)×10−3\mathcal{B}(D^+ \to ωπ^+π^0) =(3.87 \pm 0.83 \pm 0.25)\times 10^{-3}, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. The statistical significances are 12.9σ12.9σ and 7.7σ7.7 σ, respectively. The precision of B(D0→ωπ+π−)\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to ωπ^+π^-) is improved by a factor of 2.1 over the CLEO measurement, and B(D+→ωπ+π0)\mathcal{B}(D^+ \to ωπ^+π^0) is measured for the first time. No significant signal of B(D0→ωπ0π0)\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to ωπ^0π^0) is observed, and the upper limit on the branching fraction is B(D0→ωπ0π0)<1.10×10−3\mathcal{B}(D^0 \to ωπ^0π^0) < 1.10 \times 10^{-3} at the 90%90\% confidence level. The branching fractions of D→ηππD\to ηππ are also measured and consistent with existing results.

Measurement of the B0B^0 lifetime using fully reconstructed hadronic decays in the 2019 Belle II dataset

This document presents the measurement of B0B^0 meson lifetimes using the 2019 Belle II dataset that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 8.7±0.28.7 \pm 0.2 fb−1^{-1}. Each candidate is fully reconstructed with hadronic decay final states on the signal side, while the rest-of-event technique allows to infer the decay vertex position on the other (tag) side. B0B^0 lifetime is extracted from an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the distribution of the difference between the signal side B0B^0 candidate and the tag side decay times. The measured lifetime is τB0=1.48±0.28±0.06τ_{B^0} = 1.48 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.06 ps, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

After performing a fit to the dressed cross section of e+e−→Ξ−Ξˉ+e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+}, no significant ψ(4230)ψ(4230) or ψ(4260)ψ(4260) resonance is observed in the Ξ−Ξˉ+Ξ^{-}\barΞ^{+} final states, and upper limits at the 90\% confidence level on ΓeeBΓ_{ee}\mathcal{B} for the processes ψ(4230)ψ(4230)/ψ(4260)→Ξ−Ξˉ+ψ(4260)\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+} are determined. In addition, an excited ΞΞ baryon at 1820 MeV/c2c^{2} is observed with a statistical significance of 6.2 ∼\sim 6.5σσ by including the systematic uncertainty, and the mass and width are measured to be M=(1825.5±4.7±4.7)M = (1825.5 \pm 4.7 \pm 4.7)~MeV/c2c^{2} and Γ=(17.0±15.0±7.9)Γ= (17.0 \pm 15.0 \pm 7.9)~MeV, which confirms the existence of the JP=32−J^{P}=\frac{3}{2}^{-} state Ξ(1820)Ξ(1820).

Measurements of branching fractions and CP-violating charge asymmetries in charmless BB decays reconstructed in 2019--2020 Belle~II data

We report on first measurements of branching fractions~(B\mathcal{B}) and CP-violating charge asymmetries~(A\mathcal{A}) in charmless BB decays at Belle~II. We use a sample of electron-positron collisions collected in 2019 and 2020 at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance and corresponding to 34.634.6\,fb−1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. We use simulation to determine optimized event selections. The ΔEΔE distributions of the resulting samples, restricted in MbcM_{\rm bc}, are fit to determine signal yields. Signal yields are corrected for efficiencies determined from simulation and control data samples to obtain branching fractions and CP-violating asymmetries for flavour-specific channels. These are the first measurements in charmless decays reported by Belle~II. Results are compatible with known determinations and show detector performance comparable with the best Belle results offering a reliable basis to assess projections for future reach.

Model-independent determination of the relative strong-phase difference between D0D^0 and Dˉ0→KS,L0π+π−\bar{D}^0\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^- and its impact on the measurement of the CKM angle γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3

Crucial inputs for a variety of CPCP-violation studies can be determined through the analysis of pairs of quantum-entangled neutral DD mesons, which are produced in the decay of the ψ(3770)ψ(3770) resonance. The relative strong-phase parameters between D0D^0 and Dˉ0\bar{D}^0 in the decays D0→KS,L0π+π−D^0\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^- are studied using 2.93~fb−1{\rm fb}^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data delivered by the BEPCII collider and collected by the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV. Results are presented in regions of the phase space of the decay. These are the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters in D→KS,L0π+π−D \to K_{S,L}^0π^+π^- decays. Using these parameters, the associated uncertainty on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle γ/ϕ3γ/ϕ_3 is expected to be between 0.7∘0.7^\circ and 1.2∘1.2^\circ, for an analysis using the decay B±→DK±B^{\pm}\rightarrow DK^{\pm}, D→KS0π+π−D\rightarrow K^0_Sπ^+π^-, where DD represents a superposition of D0D^0 and D0ˉ\bar{D^0} states. This is a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements. Furthermore, these results provide valuable input for charm-mixing studies, other measurements of CPCP violation, and the measurement of strong-phase parameters for other DD-decay modes.

Observation of a cross-section enhancement near mass threshold in e+e−→ΛΛˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ

The process e+e−→ΛΛˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ is studied using data samples at s=2.2324\sqrt{s}=2.2324, 2.400, 2.800 and 3.080 GeV collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section is measured at s\sqrt{s}=2.2324 GeV, which is 1.0 MeV above the ΛΛˉΛ\barΛ mass threshold, to be 305±45−36+66305\pm45^{+66}_{-36} pb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The substantial cross section near threshold is significantly larger than that expected from theory, which predicts the cross section to vanish at threshold. The Born cross sections at s\sqrt{s}=2.400, 2.800 and 3.080 GeV are measured and found to be consistent with previous experimental results, but with improved precision. Finally, the corresponding effective electromagnetic form factors of ΛΛ are deduced.

The total Born cross sections for the process e+e−→K+K−π0π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0}π^{0}, as well as the Born cross sections f or the subprocesses e+e−→ϕπ0π0e^{+}e^{-} \to ϕπ^{0}π^{0}, K+(1460)K−K^{+}(1460)K^{-}, K1+(1400)K−K^{+}_{1}(1400)K^{-}, K1+(1270)K−K^{+}_{1}(1270)K^{-} and K∗+(892)K∗−(892)K^{*+}(892)K^{*-}(892), are measured versus the center-of-mass energy. The corresponding results for e+e−→K+K−π0π0e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{0}π^{0} and ϕπ0π0ϕπ^{0}π^{0} are consistent with those of BaBar and have much improved precision.By analyzing the cross sections for the four subprocesses, K+(1460)K−K^{+}(1460)K^{-}, K1+(1400)K−K^{+}_{1}(1400)K^{-}, K1+(1270)K−K^{+ }_{1}(1270)K^{-} and K∗+K∗−K^{*+}K^{*-}, a structure with mass MM = (2126.5 ±\pm 16.8 ±\pm 12.4)~MeV/c^{2} and width ΓΓ = (106.9 ±\pm 32.1 ±\pm 28.1)~MeV is observed with an overall statistical significance of 6.3 σσ, although with very limited significance in the subprocesses e+e−→K1+(1270)K−e^{+}e^{-} \to K^{+}_{1}(1270)K^{-} and K∗+(892)K∗−(892)K^{*+}(892)K^{*-}(892). Observation of a resonant structure in e+e−→ωηe^{+}e^{-} \to ωη and another in e+e−→ωπ0e^{+}e^{-} \to ωπ^{0} at center-of-mass energies between 2.00 and 3.08 GeV

Born cross sections for the processes e+e−→ωηe^+e^- \to ωη and e+e−→ωπ0e^+e^- \to ωπ^{0} have been determined for center-of-mass energies between 2.00 and 3.08 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Observation of a structure in e+e−→ϕη′e^+e^- \to ϕη^{\prime} at s\sqrt{s} from 2.05 to 3.08 GeV

The process e+e−→ϕη′e^{+}e^{-} \to ϕη^{\prime} has been studied for the first time in detail using data sample collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center of mass energies from 2.05 to 3.08 GeV. A resonance with quantum numbers JPC=1−−J^{PC}=1^{--} is observed with mass MM = (2177.5 ±\pm 4.8 (stat) ±\pm 19.5 (syst)) MeV/c2{ \it{c}^{\mathrm{2}}} and width ΓΓ = (149.0 ±\pm 15.6 (stat) ±\pm 8.9 (syst)) MeV with a statistical significance larger than 10σσ. The observed structure could be identified with the ϕ(2170)ϕ(2170), then the ratio of partial width between the ϕη′ϕη^{\prime} by BESIII and ϕηϕη by BABAR is (BϕηRΓeeR)/(Bϕη′RΓeeR)\mathcal{B}^{R}_{ϕη}Γ^{R}_{ee})/{(\mathcal{B}^{R}_{ϕη^{\prime}}Γ^{R}_{ee})} = 0.23 ±\pm 0.10 (stat) ±\pm 0.18 (syst), which is smaller than the prediction of the ssˉgs\bar{s}g hybrid models by several orders of magnitude.

Observation of the Y(4220)Y(4220) and Y(4360)Y(4360) in the process e+e−→ηJ/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ

The cross sections of the process e+e−→ηJ/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ at center-of-mass energies (s\sqrt{s}) between 3.81 and 4.60 GeV are measured with high precision by using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Three structures are observed by analyzing the lineshape of the measured cross sections, and a maximum-likelihood fit including three resonances is performed by assuming the lowest lying structure is the ψ(4040)ψ(4040). For the other resonances, we obtain masses of (4218.7±4.0±2.5)(4218.7 \pm 4.0 \pm 2.5) and (4380.4±14.2±1.8)(4380.4 \pm 14.2 \pm 1.8) MeV/c2^{2} with corresponding widths of (82.5±5.9±0.5)(82.5 \pm 5.9 \pm 0.5) and (147.0±63.0±25.8)(147.0 \pm 63.0 \pm 25.8) MeV, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones systematic. The measured resonant parameters are consistent with those of the Y(4220)Y(4220) and Y(4360)Y(4360) from pr evious measurements of different final states. For the first time, we observe the decays of the Y(4220)Y(4220) and Y(4360)Y(4360) into ηJ/ψηJ/ψ final states.

Partial wave analysis of ψ(3686)→K+K−ηψ(3686)\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}η

Using a sample of (448.1±2.9)×106(448.1\pm2.9)\times10^6 ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform the first partial wave analysis of ψ(3686)→K+K−ηψ(3686)\rightarrow K^+K^-η. In addition to the well established states, ϕ(1020)ϕ(1020), ϕ(1680)ϕ(1680), and K3∗(1780)K_3^*(1780), contributions from X(1750)X(1750), ρ(2150)ρ(2150), ρ3(2250)ρ_3(2250), and K2∗(1980)K^*_2(1980) are also observed. The X(1750)X(1750) state is determined to be a 1−−1^{--} resonance. The simultaneous observation of the ϕ(1680)ϕ(1680) and X(1750)X(1750) indicates that the X(1750)X(1750), with previous observations in photoproduction, is distinct from the ϕ(1680)ϕ(1680). The masses, widths, branching fractions of ψ(3686)→K+K−ηψ(3686)\rightarrow K^+K^-η and the intermediate resonances are also measured.

Rediscovery of B→ϕK(∗)B \to ϕK^{(*)} decays and measurement of the longitudinal polarization fraction fLf_L in B→ϕK∗B \to ϕK^{*} decays using the Summer 2020 Belle II dataset

We utilize a sample of 34.6 fb−1^{-1}, collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric energy e+e−e^+e^- collider, to search for the B+→ϕK+B^+ \to ϕK^+, B+→ϕK∗+B^+ \to ϕK^{*+}, B0→ϕKS0B^0 \to ϕK^0_S, and B0→ϕK∗0B^0 \to ϕK^{*0} decays. Charmless hadronic BB decays represent an important part of the Belle II physics program, and are an ideal benchmark to test the detector capabilities in terms of tracking efficiency, charged particle identification, vertexing, and advanced analysis techniques. Each channel is observed with a significance that exceeds 5 standard deviations, and we obtain measurements of their branching ratios that are in good agreement with the world averages. For the B→ϕK∗B \to ϕK^* modes, we also perform a measurement of the longitudinal polarization fraction fLf_L.

Search for an invisibly decaying Z′Z^{\prime} boson at Belle II in e+e−→μ+μ−(e±μ∓)e^+ e^- \to μ^+ μ^- (e^{\pm} μ^{\mp}) plus missing energy final states

Theories beyond the standard model often predict the existence of an additional neutral boson, the Z′Z^{\prime}. Using data collected by the Belle II experiment during 2018 at the SuperKEKB collider, we perform the first searches for the invisible decay of a Z′Z^{\prime} in the process e+e−→μ+μ−Z′e^+ e^- \to μ^+ μ^- Z^{\prime} and of a lepton-flavor-violating Z′Z^{\prime} in e+e−→e±μ∓Z′e^+ e^- \to e^{\pm} μ^{\mp} Z^{\prime}. We do not find any excess of events and set 90\% credibility level upper limits on the cross sections of these processes. We translate the former, in the framework of an Lμ−LτL_μ-L_τ theory, into upper limits on the Z′Z^{\prime} coupling constant at the level of 5×10−25 \times 10^{-2} -- 11 MZ′≤6M_{Z^\prime}\leq 6 GeV/c2c^2.

Measurement of azimuthal asymmetries in inclusive charged dipion production in e+e−e^+e^- annihilations at s\sqrt{s} = 3.65 GeV

We present a measurement of the azimuthal asymmetries of two charged pions in the inclusive process e+e−→ππXe^+e^-\rightarrow ππX based on a data set of 62 pb−1\rm{pb}^{-1} at the center-of-mass energy s=3.65\sqrt{s}=3.65 GeV collected with the BESIII detector. These asymmetries can be attributed to the Collins fragmentation function. We observe a nonzero asymmetry, which increases with increasing pion momentum. As our energy scale is close to that of the existing semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering experimental data, the measured asymmetries are important inputs for the global analysis of extracting the quark transversity distribution inside the nucleon and are valuable to explore the energy evolution of the spin-dependent fragmentation function.

Using the earlier-published BESIII result for Bμμ\mathcal B_{μμ} = (5.973 ±\pm 0.007stat_{\rm stat} ±\pm 0.037sys_{\rm sys})\%, we derive the J/ψJ/ψ electronic width ΓeeΓ_{ee}~= (5.58 ±\pm 0.05stat_{\rm stat} ±\pm 0.08sys_{\rm sys}) keV.

Measurements of absolute hadronic branching fractions of Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} baryon

Using 567pb−1567\rm{pb}^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- collisions recorded at s=4.599GeV\sqrt{s}=4.599\rm{GeV} with the BESIII detector, we report first measurements of absolute hadronic branching fractions of Cabibbo-favored decays of the Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} baryon with a double-tag technique. A global least-square fitter is utilized to improve the measured precision. Among the measurements for twelve Λc+Λ_{c}^{+} decay modes, the branching fraction for Λc+→pK−π+Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow pK^-π^+ is determined to be (5.84±0.27±0.23)%(5.84\pm0.27\pm0.23)\%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition, the measurements of the branching fractions of the other eleven Cabbibo-favored hadronic decay modes are significantly improved.

Observation of e+e−→η′J/ψe^{+}e^{-} \to η^{\prime} J/ψ at center-of-mass energies between 4.189 and 4.600 GeV

The process e+e−→η′J/ψe^{+}e^{-}\to η^{\prime} J/ψ is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of 8.6σ8.6σ at center-of-mass energy s=4.226\sqrt{s} = 4.226 GeV and 7.3σ7.3σ at s=4.258\sqrt{s} = 4.258 GeV using data samples collected with the BESIII detector. The Born cross sections are measured to be (3.7±0.7±0.3)(3.7 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.3) and (3.9±0.8±0.3)(3.9 \pm 0.8 \pm 0.3) pb at s=4.226\sqrt{s} = 4.226 and 4.2584.258 GeV, respectively, where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. Observation of e+e−→ωχc1,2e^+e^- \rightarrow ωχ_{c1,2} near s\sqrt{s} = 4.42 and 4.6 GeV

Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring at center-of-mass energies s>\sqrt{s} > 4.4 GeV, the processes e+e−→ωχc1,2e^+e^- \rightarrow ωχ_{c1,2} are observed for the first time. With an integrated luminosity of 1074pb−11074 pb^{-1} near s=\sqrt{s} = 4.42 GeV, a significant ωχc2ωχ_{c2} signal is found, and the cross section is measured to be $(20.9 \pm 3.2 \pm 2.5)\pb$. With 567pb−1567 pb^{-1} near s=\sqrt{s} = 4.6 GeV, a clear ωχc1ωχ_{c1} signal is seen, and the cross section is measured to be $(9.5 \pm 2.1 \pm 1.3) \pb$, while evidence is found for an ωχc2ωχ_{c2} signal. The first errors are statistical and the second are systematic. Due to low luminosity or low cross section at other energies, no significant signals are observed. In the ωχc2ωχ_{c2} cross section, an enhancement is seen around s=\sqrt{s} = 4.42 GeV. Fitting the cross section with a coherent sum of the ψ(4415)ψ(4415) Breit-Wigner function and a phase space term, the branching fraction B(ψ(4415)→ωχc2)\mathcal{B}(ψ(4415)\toωχ_{c2}) is obtained to be of the order of 10−310^{-3}.

Observation of an anomalous line shape of the η′π+π−η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} mass spectrum near the ppˉp\bar{p} mass threshold in J/ψ→γη′π+π−J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}

Using 1.09×1091.09\times10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ events collected by the BESIII experiment in 2012, we study the J/ψ→γη′π+π−J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} process and observe a significant abrupt change in the slope of the η′π+π−η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} invariant mass distribution at the proton-antiproton (ppˉp\bar{p}) mass threshold. We use two models to characterize the η′π+π−η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-} line shape around 1.85 GeV/c21.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}: one which explicitly incorporates the opening of a decay threshold in the mass spectrum (Flatté formula), and another which is the coherent sum of two resonant amplitudes. Both fits show almost equally good agreement with data, and suggest the existence of either a broad state around 1.85 GeV/c21.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2} with strong couplings to ppˉp\bar{p} final states or a narrow state just below the ppˉp\bar{p} mass threshold. Although we cannot distinguish between the fits, either one supports the existence of a ppˉp\bar{p} molecule-like state or bound state with greater than 7σ7σ significance.

Observation of pseudoscalar and tensor resonances in J/ψ→γϕϕJ/ψ\rightarrow γϕϕ

Based on a sample of (1310.6±10.5)×106(1310.6 \pm 10.5) \times 10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring, a partial wave analysis of the decay J/ψ→γϕϕJ/ψ\rightarrow γϕϕ is performed in order to study the intermediate states. Results of the partial wave analysis show that the structures are predominantly 0−+0^{-+} states. The existence of the η(2225)η(2225) is confirmed, and its resonance parameters are measured. Two additional pseudoscalar states, the η(2100)η(2100) with a mass of 2050−24+30−26+752050_{-24}^{+30}{}_{-26}^{+75}~MeV/c2c^{2} and a width of 250−30+36−164+181250_{-30}^{+36}{}_{-164}^{+181}~MeV/c2c^{2} and the X(2500)X(2500) with a mass of 2470−19+15−23+1012470_{-19}^{+15}{}_{-23}^{+101}~MeV/c2c^{2} and a width of 230−35+64−33+56230_{-35}^{+64}{}_{-33}^{+56}~MeV/c2c^{2}, are observed. In addition to these three pseudoscalar states, the scalar state f0(2100)f_0(2100), and three tensor states, the f2(2010)f_2(2010), f2(2300)f_2(2300) and f2(2340)f_2(2340), are observed in the process J/ψ→γϕϕJ/ψ\rightarrow γϕϕ. We present an analysis of the decay D+→K−π+e+νeD^{+} \to K^{-} π^+ e^+ ν_e based on data collected by the BESIII experiment at the ψ(3770)ψ(3770) resonance. Using a nearly background-free sample of 18262 events, we measure the branching fraction B(D+→K−π+e+νe)=(3.71±0.03±0.08)%\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \to K^{-} π^+ e^+ ν_e) = (3.71 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.08)\%. For 0.8<mKπ<1.00.8<m_{Kπ}<1.0 GeV/c2c^{2} the partial branching fraction is B(D+→K−π+e+νe)[0.8,1]=(3.33±0.03±0.07)%\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \to K^{-} π^+ e^+ ν_e)_{[0.8,1]} = (3.33 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.07)\%. A partial wave analysis shows that the dominant Kˉ∗(892)0\bar K^{*}(892)^{0} component is accompanied by an \emph{S}-wave contribution accounting for (6.05±0.22±0.18)%(6.05\pm0.22\pm0.18)\% of the total rate and that other components are negligible. The parameters of the Kˉ∗(892)0\bar K^{*}(892)^{0} resonance and of the form factors based on the spectroscopic pole dominance predictions are also measured. An amplitude analysis of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system produced in radiative J/ψJ/ψ decays

An amplitude analysis of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system produced in radiative J/ψJ/ψ decays is presented. In particular, a piecewise function that describes the dynamics of the π0π0π^{0}π^{0} system is determined as a function of Mπ0π0M_{π^{0}π^{0}} from an analysis of the (1.311±0.011)×109(1.311\pm0.011)\times10^{9} J/ψJ/ψ decays collected by the BESIII detector. The goal of this analysis is to provide a description of the scalar and tensor components of the π0π0π^0π^0 system while making minimal assumptions about the properties or number of poles in the amplitude. Such a model-independent description allows one to integrate these results with other related results from complementary reactions in the development of phenomenological models, which can then be used to directly fit experimental data to obtain parameters of interest. The branching fraction of J/ψ→γπ0π0J/ψ\to γπ^{0}π^{0} is determined to be (1.15±0.05)×10−3(1.15\pm0.05)\times10^{-3}, where the uncertainty is systematic only and the statistical uncertainty is negligible.

By performing a simultaneous fit, the statistical significance of Zc(3885)∓Zc(3885)^{\mp} signal is determined to be greater than 10σσ, and its pole mass and width are measured to be MpoleM_{\rm{pole}}=(3881.7±\pm1.6(stat.)±\pm1.6(syst.))~MeV/c2c^2 and ΓpoleΓ_{\rm{pole}}=(26.6±\pm2.0(stat.)±\pm2.1(syst.))~MeV, respectively. Measurement of the absolute branching fraction for Λc+→Λe+νeΛ^+_{c}\to Λe^+ν_e

We report the first absolute measurement of the branching fraction of Λc+→Λe+νeΛ^+_{c}\rightarrow Λe^+ν_e. This measurement is based on 567 pb−1^{-1} of e+e−e^+e^- annihilation data produced at s=4.599\sqrt{s}=4.599 GeV, which is just above the Λc+Λˉc−Λ^+_c\barΛ^-_c threshold. The data were collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage rings. The branching fraction is determined to be B(Λc+→Λe+νe)=(3.63±0.38(stat)±0.20(syst))%\mathcal B({Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λe^+ν_e})=(3.63\pm0.38({\rm stat})\pm0.20({\rm syst}))\%, representing a more than twofold improvement in precision upon previously published results. As the branching fraction for Λc+→Λe+νeΛ^+_{c}\rightarrow Λe^+ν_e is the benchmark for those of other Λc+Λ^+_c semileptonic channels, our result provides a unique test of different theoretical models, which is the most stringent to date.

In addition, we estimate an upper limit on the non-resonant branching ratio B(Ds+→η′π+π0)<5.1%\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'π^+π^0)<5.1\% at the 90%\% confidence level. Our results are consistent with CLEO's recent measurements and help to resolve the disagreement between the theoretical prediction and CLEO's previous measurement of B(Ds+→η′ρ+)\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'ρ^{+}).

Measurement of the form factors in the decay D+→ωe+νeD^+ \to ωe^+ ν_{e} and search for the decay D+→ϕe+νeD^+ \to ϕe^+ ν_{e}

Using 2.92 fb−1^{-1} of electron-positron annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of s=3.773\sqrt{s}= 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector, we present an improved measurement of the branching fraction B(D+→ωe+νe)=(1.63±0.11±0.08)×10−3\mathcal{B}(D^+ \to ωe^+ ν_{e}) = (1.63\pm0.11\pm0.08)\times 10^{-3}. The parameters defining the corresponding hadronic form factor ratios at zero momentum transfer are determined for the first time, we measure them to be rV=1.24±0.09±0.06r_V = 1.24\pm0.09\pm0.06 and r2=1.06±0.15±0.05r_2 = 1.06\pm0.15 \pm 0.05. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. We also search for the decay D+→ϕe+νeD^+ \to ϕe^+ ν_{e}. Measurement of the Matrix Elements for the Decays η→π+π−π0η\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}π^0 and η/η′→π0π0π0η/η^{\prime}\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0

Based on a sample of 1.31×1091.31 \times 10^9 J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, Dalitz plot analyses of selected 79,625 η→π+π−π0η\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}π^0 events, 33,908 η→π0π0π0η\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0 events and 1,888 η′→π0π0π0η^{\prime}\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0 events are performed. The measured matrix elements of η→π+π−π0η\rightarrowπ^+π^-π^0 are in reasonable agreement with previous measurements. The Dalitz plot slope parameters of η→π0π0π0η\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0 and η′→π0π0π0η^{\prime}\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0 are determined to be −0.055±0.014±0.004-0.055 \pm 0.014 \pm 0.004 and −0.640±0.046±0.047-0.640 \pm 0.046 \pm 0.047, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Both values are consistent with previous measurements, while the precision of the latter one is improved by a factor of three. Final state interactions are found to have an important role in those decays.

Measurement of the proton form factor by studying e+e−→ppˉe^{+} e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p}

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the Born cross section of e+e−→ppˉe^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p} at 12 center-of-mass energies from 2232.4 to 3671.0 MeV. The corresponding effective electromagnetic form factor of the proton is deduced under the assumption that the electric and magnetic form factors are equal (∣GE∣=∣GM∣)(|G_{E}|= |G_{M}|). In addition, the ratio of electric to magnetic form factors, ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}|, and ∣GM∣|G_{M}| are extracted by fitting the polar angle distribution of the proton for the data samples with larger statistics, namely at s=\sqrt{s}= 2232.4 and 2400.0 MeV and a combined sample at s\sqrt{s} = 3050.0, 3060.0 and 3080.0 MeV, respectively. The measured cross sections are in agreement with recent results from BaBar, improving the overall uncertainty by about 30\%. The ∣GE/GM∣|G_{E}/G_{M}| ratios are close to unity and consistent with BaBar results in the same q2q^{2} region, which indicates the data are consistent with the assumption that ∣GE∣=∣GM∣|G_{E}|=|G_{M}| within uncertainties.

A neutral structure in the DDˉ∗D\bar{D}^{*} system around the DDˉ∗D\bar{D}^{*} mass threshold is observed with a statistical significance greater than 10σσ in the processes e+e−→D+D∗−π0+c.c.e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow D^{+}D^{*-}π^{0}+c.c. and e+e−→D0Dˉ∗0π0+c.c.e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow D^{0}\bar{D}^{*0}π^{0}+c.c. at s\sqrt{s} = 4.226 and 4.257 GeV in the BESIII experiment. The structure is denoted as Zc(3885)0Z_{c}(3885)^{0}. Assuming the presence of a resonance, its pole mass and width are determined to be (3885.7−5.7+4.33885.7^{+4.3}_{-5.7}(stat)±8.4\pm 8.4(syst)) MeV/c2c^{2} and (35−12+1135^{+11}_{-12}(stat)±15 \pm 15(syst)) MeV, respectively. The Born cross sections are measured to be σ(e+e−→Zc(3885)0π0,Zc(3885)0→DDˉ∗)=(77±13σ(e^{+}e^{-}\to Z_{c}(3885)^{0}π^{0}, Z_{c}(3885)^{0} \to D\bar{D}^{*})=(77 \pm 13(stat)±17\pm 17(syst)) pb at 4.226 GeV and (47±947 \pm 9(stat)±10 \pm 10(syst)) pb at 4.257 GeV. Observation of the Dalitz Decay η′→γe+e−η' \to γe^+e^-

We report the first observation of the Dalitz decay η′→γe+e−η' \to γe^+e^-, based on a data sample of 1.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector. The η′η' mesons are produced via the J/ψ→γη′J/ψ\to γη' decay process. The ratio Γ(η′→γe+e−)/Γ(η′→γγ)Γ(η' \to γe^+ e^-)/Γ(η'\toγγ) is measured to be (2.13±0.09(stat.)±0.07(sys.))×10−2(2.13\pm0.09(\text{stat.})\pm0.07(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-2}. This corresponds to a branching fraction B(η′→γe+e−)=(4.69±0.20(stat.)±0.23(sys.))×10−4{\cal B}(η' \to γe^+e^-)= (4.69 \pm0.20(\text{stat.})\pm0.23(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-4}. The transition form factor is extracted and different expressions are compared to the measured dependence on the e+e−e^+e^- invariant mass. Observation of the electromagnetic doubly OZI-suppressed decay J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0}

Using a sample of 1.311.31 billion J/ψJ/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we report the observation of the decay J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0}, which is the first evidence for a doubly Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka suppressed electromagnetic J/ψJ/ψ decay. A clear structure is observed in the K+K−K^{+} K^{-} mass spectrum around 1.02 GeV/c2c^2, which can be attributed to interference between J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0} and J/ψ→K+K−π0J/ψ\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}π^{0} decays. Due to this interference, two possible solutions are found. The corresponding measured values of the branching fraction of J/ψ→ϕπ0J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0} are [2.94±0.16(stat.)±0.16(syst.)]×10−6[2.94 \pm 0.16\text{(stat.)} \pm 0.16\text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-6} and [1.24±0.33(stat.)±0.30(syst.)]×10−7[1.24 \pm 0.33\text{(stat.)} \pm 0.30\text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-7}.

The isospin violating decay J/ψ→ϕπ0f0(980)J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0} f_{0}(980) with f0(980)→ππf_{0}(980) \to ππ, is observed for the first time. The ratio of the two branching fractions is $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0π^0)/\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0γ) =1.90\pm 0.07\pm 0.05$, which is independent of the assumption made above. Searches for isospin-violating transitions χc0,2→π0ηcχ_{c0,2} \rightarrow π^{0} η_{c}

We present the first upper-limit measurement of the branching fractions of the isospin-violating transitions χc0,2→π0ηcχ_{c0,2} \rightarrow π^{0} η_{c}. The measurements are performed using 106×106106\times 10^{6} ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collider at a center-of-mass energy corresponding to the ψ(3686)ψ(3686) mass. We obtained upper limits on the branching fractions at a 90\% confidence level of B(χc0→π0ηc)<1.6×10−3B(χ_{c0} \rightarrow π^{0} η_{c}) < 1.6 \times 10^{-3} and B(χc2→π0ηc)<3.2×10−3B(χ_{c2} \rightarrow π^{0} η_{c}) < 3.2 \times 10^{-3}.

Study of e+e−→ωχcJe^+e^-\toωχ_{cJ} at center-of-mass energies from 4.21 to 4.42 GeV

Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at 9 center-of-mass energies from 4.21 to 4.42 GeV, we search for the production of e+e−→ωχcJe^+e^-\to ωχ_{cJ} (JJ=0, 1, 2). The process e+e−→ωχc0e^+e^-\to ωχ_{c0} is observed for the first time, and the Born cross sections at s\sqrt{s}=4.23 and 4.26 GeV are measured to be (55.4±6.0±5.9)(55.4\pm 6.0\pm 5.9) and (23.7±5.3±3.5)(23.7\pm 5.3\pm 3.5) pb, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The ωχc0ωχ_{c0} signals at the other 7 energies and e+e−→ωχc1e^+e^-\to ωχ_{c1} and ωχc2ωχ_{c2} signals are not significant, and the upper limits on the cross sections are determined. By examining the ωχc0ωχ_{c0} cross section as a function of center-of-mass energy, we find that it is inconsistent with the line shape of the Y(4260)Y(4260) observed in e+e−→π+π−J/ψe^+ e^-\toπ^+π^-J/ψ. Assuming the ωχc0ωχ_{c0} signals come from a single resonance, we extract mass and width of the resonance to be (4230±8±6)(4230\pm8\pm6) MeV/c2c^2 and (38±12±2)(38\pm12\pm2) MeV, respectively, and the statistical significance is more than 9σ9σ.

Study of χcJχ_{cJ} decaying into ϕϕ K∗(892)K^*(892) Kˉ\bar{K}

Using a data sample of 106 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII storage ring, we study for the first time the decay χcJ→ϕKS0K±π∓χ_{cJ}\toϕK^{0}_S K^{\pm}π^{\mp} and χcJ→ϕK+K−π0χ_{cJ}\toϕK^{+} K^{-}π^{0} in the E1 radiative transition ψ(3686)→γχcJψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}. The decays are dominated by the three-body decay χcJ→ϕK∗(892)Kˉχ_{cJ}\to ϕK^*(892)\bar{K}. We measure branching fractions for this reaction via the neutral and charged K∗(892)K^*(892) and find them consistent with each other within the expectation of isospin symmetry. In the KKˉπK\bar{K}π invariant mass distribution a structure near the K∗(892)KˉK^*(892)\bar{K} mass threshold is observed, and the corresponding mass and width are measured to be 1412±4(stat.)±8(sys.)MeV/c21412\pm4(\mathrm{stat.})\pm8(\mathrm{sys.}) \mathrm{MeV}/c^2 and ΓΓ = 84±12(stat.)±40(sys.)MeV84\pm12(\mathrm{stat.})\pm40(\mathrm{sys.}) \mathrm{MeV}, respectively. The observed state favors an assignment to the h1(1380)h_1(1380), considering its possible JPCJ^{PC} and comparing its mass, width and decay mode to those reported in the Particle Data Group.

Study of ψ(3686)→π0hc,hc→γηcψ(3686)\toπ^0 h_c, h_c\toγη_c via ηcη_c exclusive decays

The process ψ(3686)→π0hc,hc→γηcψ(3686) \to π^0 h_c, h_c \to γη_c has been studied with a data sample of 106±4106 \pm 4 million ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The mass and width of the PP-wave charmonium spin-singlet state hc(1P1)h_c(^1P_1) are determined by simultaneously fitting distributions of the π0π^0 recoil mass for 16 exclusive ηcη_c decay modes. The results, $M(\hc) = 3525.31 \pm 0.11 {\rm (stat.)} \pm 0.14 {\rm (syst.)}$\,MeV/c2c^2 and $Γ(\hc) = 0.70 \pm 0.28 \pm 0.22$\,MeV, are consistent with and more precise than previous measurements. We also determine the branching ratios for the 16 exclusive ηcη_c decay modes, five of which have not been measured previously. New measurements of the ηcη_c line-shape parameters in the E1E1 transition hc→γηch_c\toγη_c are made by selecting candidates in the hch_c signal sample and simultaneously fitting the hadronic mass spectra for the 16 ηcη_c decay channels. The resulting ηcη_c mass and width values are M(ηc)=2984.49±1.16±0.52M(η_c) = 2984.49 \pm 1.16 \pm 0.52\,MeV/c2c^2 and Γ(ηc)=36.4±3.2±1.7Γ(η_c) = 36.4 \pm 3.2 \pm 1.7\,MeV.

In an analysis of a 2.92~fb−1^{-1} data sample taken at 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider, we measure the absolute decay branching fractions to be B(D0→K−e+νe)=(3.505±0.014±0.033)%\mathcal B(D^0 \to K^-e^+ν_e)=(3.505\pm 0.014 \pm 0.033)\% and B(D0→π−e+νe)=(0.295±0.004±0.003)%\mathcal B(D^0 \to π^-e^+ν_e)=(0.295\pm 0.004\pm 0.003)\%. From a study of the differential decay rates we obtain the products of hadronic form factor and the magnitude of the CKM matrix element f+K(0)∣Vcs∣=0.7172±0.0025±0.0035f_{+}^K(0)|V_{cs}|=0.7172\pm0.0025\pm 0.0035 and f+π(0)∣Vcd∣=0.1435±0.0018±0.0009f_{+}^π(0)|V_{cd}|=0.1435\pm0.0018\pm 0.0009. Combining these products with the values of ∣Vcs(d)∣|V_{cs(d)}| from the SM constraint fit, we extract the hadronic form factors f+K(0)=0.7368±0.0026±0.0036f^K_+(0) = 0.7368\pm0.0026\pm 0.0036 and f+π(0)=0.6372±0.0080±0.0044f^π_+(0) = 0.6372\pm0.0080\pm 0.0044, and their ratio f+π(0)/f+K(0)=0.8649±0.0112±0.0073f_+^π(0)/f_+^{K}(0)=0.8649\pm 0.0112\pm 0.0073. These form factors and their ratio are used to test unquenched Lattice QCD calculations of the form factors and a light cone sum rule (LCSR) calculation of their ratio. The measured value of f+K(π)(0)∣Vcs(d)∣f_+^{K(π)}(0) |V_{cs(d)}| and the lattice QCD value for f+K(π)(0)f^{K(π)}_+(0) are used to extract values of the CKM matrix elements of ∣Vcs∣=0.9601±0.0033±0.0047±0.0239|V_{cs}|=0.9601 \pm 0.0033 \pm 0.0047 \pm 0.0239 and ∣Vcd∣=0.2155±0.0027±0.0014±0.0094|V_{cd}|=0.2155 \pm 0.0027 \pm 0.0014 \pm 0.0094, where the third errors are due to the uncertainties in lattice QCD calculations of the form factors. Using the LCSR value for f+π(0)/f+K(0)f_+^π(0)/f_+^K(0), we determine the ratio ∣Vcd∣/∣Vcs∣=0.238±0.004±0.002±0.011|V_{cd}|/|V_{cs}|=0.238\pm 0.004\pm 0.002\pm 0.011, where the third error is from the uncertainty in the LCSR normalization. In addition, we measure form factor parameters for three different theoretical models that describe the weak hadronic charged currents for these two semileptonic decays. All of these measurements are the most precise to date.

Measurement of the branching fraction for ψ(3686)→ωK+K−ψ(3686)\toωK^+ K^-

With 1.06×1081.06\times 10^8 ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, the branching fraction of ψ(3686)→ωK+K−ψ(3686) \to ωK^+ K^- is measured to be (1.54±0.04±0.11)×10−4(1.54 \pm 0.04 \pm 0.11) \times 10^{-4}. This is the most precise result to date, due to the largest ψ(3686)ψ(3686) sample, improved signal reconstruction efficiency, good simulation of the detector performance, and a more accurate knowledge of the continuum contribution. The branching fractions are determined to be \mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to η' e^+e^-) = (5.81\pm0.16\pm0.31)\times10^{-5}, \mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to ηe^+e^-) = (1.16\pm0.07\pm0.06)\times10^{-5}, and \mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to π^0 e^+e^-)=(7.56\pm1.32\pm0.50)\times10^{-7}, where the first errors are statistical and the second ones systematic.

Precision Measurement of the Mass of the ττ Lepton

An energy scan near the ττ pair production threshold has been performed using the BESIII detector. About 2424 pb−1^{-1} of data, distributed over four scan points, was collected. This analysis is based on ττ pair decays to eeee, eμeμ, eheh, μμμμ, μhμh, hhhh, eρeρ, μρμρ and πρπρ final states, where hh denotes a charged ππ or KK. The mass of the ττ lepton is measured from a maximum likelihood fit to the ττ pair production cross section data to be mτ=(1776.91±0.12−0.13+0.10m_τ = (1776.91\pm0.12 ^{+0.10}_{-0.13}) MeV/c2c^2, which is currently the most precise value in a single measurement.

Precision measurements of B(D+→μ+νμ)B(D^+ \rightarrow μ^+ ν_μ), the pseudoscalar decay constant fD+f_{D^+}, and the quark mixing matrix element ∣Vcd∣|V_{\rm cd}|

We report a measurement of the branching fraction B(D+→μ+νμ)=[3.71±0.19(stat)±0.06(sys)]×10−4B(D^+ \rightarrow μ^+ ν_μ) = [3.71 \pm 0.19 (\rm stat) \pm 0.06 (\rm sys)]\times 10^{-4} based on 2.92 fb−1{\rm fb^{-1}} of data accumulated at s=3.773\sqrt{s}=3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. This measurement, in conjunction with the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element ∣Vcd∣|V_{\rm cd}| determined from a global Standard Model fit, implies a value for the weak decay constant fD+=(203.2±5.3±1.8)f_{D^+}=(203.2 \pm 5.3 \pm 1.8) MeV. Additionally, using this branching fraction measurement together with a Lattice QCD prediction for fD+f_{D^+}, we find ∣Vcd∣=0.2210±0.0058±0.0047|V_{\rm cd}|=0.2210\pm 0.0058 \pm 0.0047. In either case, these are the most precise results for these quantities to date.

Using 1.06×1081.06\times10^8 ψ(3686)ψ(3686) events recorded in e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collisions at s=\sqrt{s}= 3.686 GeV with the BESIII at the BEPCII collider, we present searches for C-parity violation in J/ψ→γγJ/ψ\to γγ and γϕ γϕ decays via ψ(3686)→J/ψπ+π−ψ(3686) \to J/ψπ^+π^-. No significant signals are observed in either channel. Upper limits on the branching fractions are set to be B(J/ψ→γγ)<2.7×10−7\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to γγ) < 2.7 \times 10^{-7} and B(J/ψ→γϕ)<1.4×10−6\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to γϕ) < 1.4 \times 10^{-6} at the 90\% confidence level. The former is one order of magnitude more stringent than the previous upper limit, and the latter represents the first limit on this decay channel.

Search for the radiative transitions ψ(3770)→γηcψ(3770)\toγη_c and γηc(2S)γη_c(2S)

By using a 2.92 fb−1^{-1} data sample taken at s=3.773\sqrt{s} = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, we search for the radiative transitions ψ(3770)→γηcψ(3770)\toγη_c and γηc(2S)γη_c(2S) through the hadronic decays ηc(ηc(2S))→KS0K±π∓η_c(η_c(2S))\to K^0_SK^\pmπ^\mp. No significant excess of signal events above background is observed. We set upper limits at a 90% confidence level for the product branching fractions to be B(ψ(3770)→γηc)×B(ηc→KS0K±π∓)<1.6×10−5\mathcal{B}(ψ(3770)\toγη_c)\times \mathcal{B}(η_c\to K^0_SK^\pmπ^\mp) < 1.6\times10^{-5} and B(ψ(3770)→γηc(2S))×B(ηc(2S)→KS0K±π∓)<5.6×10−6\mathcal{B}(ψ(3770)\toγη_c(2S))\times \mathcal{B}(η_c(2S)\to K^0_SK^\pmπ^\mp) < 5.6\times10^{-6}. Combining our result with world-average values of B(ηc(ηc(2S))→KS0K±π∓)\mathcal{B}(η_c(η_c(2S))\to K^0_SK^\pmπ^\mp), we find the branching fractions B(ψ(3770)→γηc)<6.8×10−4\mathcal{B}(ψ(3770)\toγη_c) < 6.8\times10^{-4} and B(ψ(3770)→γηc(2S))<2.0×10−3\mathcal{B}(ψ(3770)\toγη_c(2S)) < 2.0\times10^{-3} at a 90% confidence level.

Observation of a charged charmoniumlike structure in e+e- to pi+pi-J/psi at \sqrt{s}=4.26 GeV

We study the process e+e- to pi+pi-J/psi at a center-of-mass energy of 4.260 GeV using a 525 pb^{-1} data sample collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. The Born cross section is measured to be (62.9\pm 1.9\pm 3.7) pb, consistent with the production of the Y(4260). We observe a structure at around 3.9 GeV/c^2 in the π^\pm J/psi mass spectrum, which we refer to as the Z_c(3900). If interpreted as a new particle, it is unusual in that it carries an electric charge and couples to charmonium. A fit to the π^\pm J/psi invariant mass spectrum, neglecting interference, results in a mass of (3899.0\pm 3.6\pm 4.9) MeV/c^2 and a width of (46\pm 10\pm 20) MeV. Its production ratio is measured to be R=\frac{σ(e+e- to π^\pm Z_c(3900)^\mp to pi+pi-J/psi))} {σ(e+e- to pi+pi-J/psi)}=(21.5\pm 3.3\pm 7.5)%. In all measurements the first errors are statistical and the second are systematic.

Observation of a charged charmoniumlike structure Z_c(4020) and search for the Z_c(3900) in e+e- to pi+pi-h_c

We study e+e- --> pi+pi-h_c at center-of-mass energies from 3.90 GeV to 4.42 GeV using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider. The Born cross sections are measured at 13 energies, and are found to be of the same order of magnitude as those of e+e- --> pi+pi-J/psi but with a different line shape. In the π^\pm h_c mass spectrum, a distinct structure, referred to as Z_c(4020), is observed at 4.02 GeV/c^2. The Z_c(4020) carries an electric charge and couples to charmonium. A fit to the π^\pm h_c invariant mass spectrum, neglecting possible interferences, results in a mass of (4022.9\pm 0.8\pm 2.7) MeV/c^2 and a width of (7.9\pm 2.7\pm 2.6) MeV for the Z_c(4020), where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. No significant Z_c(3900) signal is observed, and upper limits on the Z_c(3900) production cross sections in π^\pm h_c at center-of-mass energies of 4.23 and 4.26 GeV are set.

Using a sample of (225.3±2.8)×106(225.3\pm 2.8)\times 10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ decays collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, searches for invisible decays of ηη and η′η^\prime in J/ψ→ϕηJ/ψ\toϕη and ϕη′ϕη^\prime are performed. Decays of ϕ→K+K−ϕ\to K^{+}K^{-} are used to tag the ηη and η′η^\prime decays. No signals above background are found for the invisible decays, and upper limits at the 90% confidence level are determined to be 2.58×10−42.58\times10^{-4} for the ratio B(η→invisible)B(η→γγ)\frac{\mathcal{B}(η\to\rm{invisible})}{\mathcal{B}(η\toγγ)} and 2.39×10−22.39\times10^{-2} for B(η′→invisible)B(η′→γγ)\frac{\mathcal{B}(η^\prime\to\rm{invisible})}{\mathcal{B}(η^\prime \toγγ)}.

Search for ηη and η′→π+e−νˉe+c.c.η^\prime\to π^+ e^- \barν_e +c.c. decays in $\jpsi \to ϕη$ and ϕη′ϕη^\prime

Using a sample of 225.3 million $\jpsi$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII e+e−e^+e^- collider in 2009, searches for the decays of ηη and η′→π+e−νˉe+c.c.η^\prime\toπ^+ e^- \barν_e +c.c. in $\jpsi \to ϕη$ and ϕη′ϕη^\prime are performed. The ϕϕ signals, which are reconstructed in K+K−K^+K^- final states, are used to tag ηη and η′η^\prime semileptonic decays. No signals are observed for either ηη or η′η^\prime, and upper limits at the 90% confidence level are determined to be 7.3×10−47.3\times 10^{-4} and 5.0×10−45.0\times 10^{-4} for the ratios $\frac{{\mathcal B}(η\to π^+ e^- \barν_e +c.c.)}{{\mathcal B}(η\to \pip\pim\piz)}$ and $\frac{{\mathcal B}(η^\prime\to π^+ e^-\barν_e +c.c.)}{{\mathcal B}(η^\prime \to \pip\pimη)}$, respectively. These are the first upper limit values determined for ηη and η′η^\prime semileptonic weak decays.

Search for the Lepton Flavor Violation Process J/ψ→eμJ/ψ\to eμ at BESIII

We search for the lepton-flavor-violating decay of the J/ψJ/ψ into an electron and a muon using (225.3±2.8)×106(225.3\pm2.8)\times 10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Four candidate events are found in the signal region, consistent with background expectations. An upper limit on the branching fraction of B(J/ψ→eμ)<1.5×10−7\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to eμ)< 1.5 \times 10^{-7} (90% C.L.) is obtained.

Study of J/ψ→ωppˉJ/ψ\rightarrow ωp \bar{p} at BESIII

The decay J/ψ→ωppˉJ/ψ\rightarrow ωp \bar{p} has been studied, using 225.3×106225.3\times 10^{6} J/ψJ/ψ events accumulated at BESIII. No significant enhancement near the ppˉp\bar{p} invariant-mass threshold (denoted as X(ppˉ)X(p\bar{p})) is observed. The upper limit of the branching fraction B(J/ψ→ωX(ppˉ)→ωppˉ)\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\rightarrow ωX(p\bar{p}) \rightarrow ωp \bar{p}) is determined to be 3.9×10−63.9\times10^{-6} at the 95% confidence level. The branching fraction of J/ψ→ωppˉJ/ψ\rightarrow ωp \bar{p} is measured to be B(J/ψ→ωppˉ)=(9.0±0.2 (stat.)±0.9 (syst.))×10−4\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\rightarrow ωp \bar{p}) =(9.0 \pm 0.2\ (\text{stat.})\pm 0.9\ (\text{syst.})) \times 10^{-4}.

Measurement of χcJχ_{cJ} decaying into pnˉπ−p\bar{n}π^{-} and pnˉπ−π0p\bar{n}π^{-}π^{0}

Using a data sample of 1.06×1081.06 \times 10^{8} $\psip$ events collected with the BESIII detector in 2009, the branching fractions of χcJ→pnˉπ−χ_{cJ}\to p\bar{n}π^{-} and χcJ→pnˉπ−π0χ_{cJ}\to p\bar{n}π^{-}π^{0} (JJ=0,1,2) are measured{Throughout the text, inclusion of charge conjugate modes is implied if not stated otherwise.}. The results for χc0→pnˉπ−χ_{c0}\to p\bar{n}π^{-} and χc2→pnˉπ−χ_{c2}\to p\bar{n}π^{-} are consistent with, but much more precise than those of previous measurements. The decays of χc1→pnˉπ−χ_{c1}\to p\bar{n}π^{-} and χcJ→pnˉπ−π0χ_{cJ}\to p\bar{n}π^{-}π^{0} are observed for the first time.

Observation of ηcη_{c} decay into Σ+Σˉ−Σ^{+}\barΣ^{-} and Ξ−Ξˉ+Ξ^{-}\barΞ^{+} final states

Using a data sample of 2.25×1082.25\times10^{8} J/ψJ/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector, we present the first observation of the decays of ηcη_{c} mesons to Σ+Σˉ−Σ^{+}\barΣ^{-} and Ξ−Ξˉ+Ξ^{-}\barΞ^{+}. The branching fractions are measured to be (2.11±0.28stat.±0.18syst.±0.50PDG)×10−3(2.11\pm0.28_{\rm stat.}\pm0.18_{\rm syst.}\pm0.50_{\rm PDG})\times10^{-3} and (0.89±0.16stat.±0.08syst.±0.21PDG)×10−3(0.89\pm0.16_{\rm stat.}\pm0.08_{\rm syst.}\pm0.21_{\rm PDG})\times10^{-3} for ηc→Σ+Σˉ−η_{c} \to Σ^{+}\barΣ^{-} and Ξ−Ξˉ+Ξ^{-}\barΞ^{+}, respectively. These branching fractions provide important information on the helicity selection rule in charmonium-decay processes.

Observation of chi_{cJ} Decays to ΛΛbarπ^{+}π^{-}

Decays of the chi_{cJ} states (J=0,\ 1,\ 2) to ΛΛbar\ pi^{+} π^{-}, including processes with intermediate Σ(1385), are studied through the E1 transition psi'-->γchi_{cJ} using 106 million psi' events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII. This is the first observation of chi_{cJ} decays to the final state ΛΛbar π^{+}π^{-}. The branching ratio of the intermediate process chi_{cJ}-->Σ(1385)^{+/-} \barΣ(1385)^{-/+} is also measured for the first time, and the results agree with the theoretical predictions based on the color-octet effect.

Precision measurements of branching fractions for ψ′→π0Jψ ψ'\toπ^0 Jψ and ηJψηJψ

We present a precision study of the $\psip\toπ^0 J/ψ$ and ηJ/ψηJ/ψ decay modes. The measurements are obtained using 106×106106\times10^6 ψ′ψ' events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII $\ee$ collider operating at a center-of-mass energy corresponding to the $\psip$ mass. We obtain $\mathcal{B}(\psip\toπ^0 J/ψ)=(1.26\pm0.02{\rm (stat.)}\pm0.03{\rm (syst.)})\times 10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(\psip\toηJ/ψ)=(33.75\pm0.17{\rm (stat.)}\pm0.86{\rm (syst.)})\times 10^{-3}$. The branching fraction ratio $R=\frac{\mathcal{B}(\psip\toπ^0 J/ψ)}{\mathcal{B}(\psip\toηJ/ψ)}$ is determined to be (3.74±0.06(stat.)±0.04(syst.))×10−2(3.74\pm0.06 {\rm(stat.)}\pm0.04 {\rm(syst.)})\times 10^{-2}. The precision of these measurements of $\mathcal{B}(\psip\toπ^{0} J/ψ)$ and RR represent a significant improvement over previously published values.

Study of the near-threshold ωϕωϕ mass enhancement in doubly OZI suppressed J/ψ→γωϕJ/ψ\to γωϕ decays

A 2.25×108\times10^8 $\jpsi$ event sample accumulated with the BESIII detector is used to study the doubly OZI suppressed decay modes $\jpsi\toγ\of$, $ω\to\ppp$, $ϕ\to\kk$. A strong deviation (>> 30σσ) from three-body $\jpsi\toγωϕ$ phase space is observed near the ωϕωϕ mass threshold that is consistent with a previous observation reported by the BESII experiment. A partial wave analysis with a tensor covariant amplitude that assumes that the enhancement is due to the presence of a resonance, the X(1810), is performed, and confirms that the spin-parity of the X(1810) is 0++0^{++}. The mass and width of the X(1810) are determined to be M=1795±7M=1795\pm7(stat)−5+13^{+13}_{-5}(syst)±\pm19(mod) MeV/c2c^2 and Γ=95±10Γ=95\pm10(stat)−34+21^{+21}_{-34}(syst)±\pm75(mod) MeV/c2c^2, respectively, and the product branching fraction is measured to be ${\cal B}(\jpsi\toγX(1810))\times{\cal B}(X(1810)\to\of)=(2.00\pm0.08$(stat)−1.00+0.45^{+0.45}_{-1.00}(syst)±\pm1.30(mod))×10−4\times10^{-4}. %where the first error is the statistical error and the second the systematical error. These results are consistent within errors with those of the BESII experiment.

Precision timing measurement of phototube pulses using a flash analog-to-digital converter

We present the timing characteristics of the flash ADC readout of the GlueX forward calorimeter, which depends on precise measurement of arrival time of pulses from FEU 84-3 photomultiplier tubes to suppress backgrounds. The tests presented were performed using two different 250 MHz prototype flash ADC devices, one with eight-bit and one with twelve-bit sampling depth. All measured time resolutions were better than 1 ns, independent of signal size, which is the design goal for the GlueX forward calorimeter. For pulses with an amplitude of 100 mV the timing resolution is 0.57 +- 0.18 ns, while for 500 mV pulses it is 0.24 +- 0.08 ns.

Observation of chi_cJ radiative decays to light vector mesons

Using a total of 2.74 x 10^7 decays of the psi(2S) collected with the CLEO-c detector, we present a study of chi_cJ -> gamma V, where V = rho^0, omega, phi. The transitions chi_c1 -> gamma rho^0 and chi_c1 -> gamma omega are observed with B(chi_c1 -> gamma rho^0) = (2.43 +- 0.19 +- 0.22) x 10^-4 and B(chi_c1 -> gamma omega) = (8.3 +- 1.5 +- 1.2) x 10^-5. In the chi_c1 -> gamma rho^0 transition, the final state meson is dominantly longitudinally polarized. Upper limits on the branching fractions of other chi_cJ states to light vector mesons are presented.
