TimeGMM: Single-Pass Probabilistic Forecasting via Adaptive Gaussian Mixture Models with Reversible Normalization

Probabilistic time series forecasting is crucial for quantifying future uncertainty, with significant applications in fields such as energy and finance. However, existing methods often rely on computationally expensive sampling or restrictive parametric assumptions to characterize future distributions, which limits predictive performance and introduces distributional mismatch. To address these challenges, this paper presents TimeGMM, a novel probabilistic forecasting framework based on Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM) that captures complex future distributions in a single forward pass. A key component is GMM-adapted Reversible Instance Normalization (GRIN), a novel module designed to dynamically adapt to temporal-probabilistic distribution shifts. The framework integrates a dedicated Temporal Encoder (TE-Module) with a Conditional Temporal-Probabilistic Decoder (CTPD-Module) to jointly capture temporal dependencies and mixture distribution parameters. Extensive experiments demonstrate that TimeGMM consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods, achieving maximum improvements of 22.48\% in CRPS and 21.23\% in NMAE.

Region-level Contrastive and Consistency Learning for Semi-Supervised Semantic Segmentation

Current semi-supervised semantic segmentation methods mainly focus on designing pixel-level consistency and contrastive regularization. However, pixel-level regularization is sensitive to noise from pixels with incorrect predictions, and pixel-level contrastive regularization has memory and computational cost with O(pixel_num^2). To address the issues, we propose a novel region-level contrastive and consistency learning framework (RC^2L) for semi-supervised semantic segmentation. Specifically, we first propose a Region Mask Contrastive (RMC) loss and a Region Feature Contrastive (RFC) loss to accomplish region-level contrastive property. Furthermore, Region Class Consistency (RCC) loss and Semantic Mask Consistency (SMC) loss are proposed for achieving region-level consistency. Based on the proposed region-level contrastive and consistency regularization, we develop a region-level contrastive and consistency learning framework (RC^2L) for semi-supervised semantic segmentation, and evaluate our RC$^2$L on two challenging benchmarks (PASCAL VOC 2012 and Cityscapes), outperforming the state-of-the-art.

Enhanced water affinity of histidine by transition metal ions

Transitional metal ions widely exist in biological environments and are crucial to many life-sustaining physiological processes. Recently, transition metal ion such as Cu$^{2+}$, Zn$^{2+}$, Ni$^{2+}$, have been shown can increase the solubilities of aromatic biomolecules. Comparing with Cu$^{2+}$, Zn$^{2+}$ shows less enhancement to the solubilities of biomolecules such as tryptophan (Trp). On the other hand, Zn$^{2+}$ has a higher concentration in human blood plasma and appears in protein the most among transition metal ions, clarifying whether Zn$^{2+}$ can enhance the solubilities of other aromatic amino acids is significantly important. Herein, we observed that the solubility of aromatic amino acid histidine (His) is greatly enhanced in ZnCl$_2$ solution. Based on first principle calculations, this enhancement of solubility is attributed to cation-$π$ interaction between His and Zn$^{2+}$. Our results here are of great importance for the bioavailability of aromatic drugs and provide new insights for the understanding of physiological functions of Zn$^{2+}$.

W-net: Simultaneous segmentation of multi-anatomical retinal structures using a multi-task deep neural network

Segmentation of multiple anatomical structures is of great importance in medical image analysis. In this study, we proposed a $\mathcal{W}$-net to simultaneously segment both the optic disc (OD) and the exudates in retinal images based on the multi-task learning (MTL) scheme. We introduced a class-balanced loss and a multi-task weighted loss to alleviate the imbalanced problem and to improve the robustness and generalization property of the $\mathcal{W}$-net. We demonstrated the effectiveness of our approach by applying five-fold cross-validation experiments on two public datasets e\_ophtha\_EX and DiaRetDb1. We achieved F1-score of 94.76\% and 95.73\% for OD segmentation, and 92.80\% and 94.14\% for exudates segmentation. To further prove the generalization property of the proposed method, we applied the trained model on the DRIONS-DB dataset for OD segmentation and on the MESSIDOR dataset for exudate segmentation. Our results demonstrated that by choosing the optimal weights of each task, the MTL based $\mathcal{W}$-net outperformed separate models trained individually on each task. Code and pre-trained models will be available at: \url{https://github.com/FundusResearch/MTL_for_OD_and_exudates.git}.

The discharge characteristics of the DUHOCAMIS with a high magnetic bottle-shaped field

For the purpose to produce high intensity, multiply charged metal ion beams, the DUHOCAMIS (dual hollow cathode ion source for metal ions) was derived from the hot cathode Penning ion source combined with the hollow cathode sputtering experiments in 2007. It was interesting to investigate the behavior of this discharge geometry in a stronger magnetic bottle-shaped field. So a new test bench for DUHOCAMIS with a high magnetic bottle-shaped field up to 0.6 T has been set up at Peking University, on which have been made primary experiments in connection with discharge characteristics of the source. The experiments with magnetic fields from 0.13 T to 0.52 T have shown that the magnetic flux densities are very sensitive to the discharge behavior: discharge curves and ion spectra. It has been found that the slope of discharge curves in a very wide range can be controlled by changing the magnetic field as well as regulated by adjusting cathode heating power. On the other hand, by comparison of discharge curves between dual hollow cathode discharge (DHCD) mode and PIG discharge mode, it was found a much stronger magnetic effect occurred on DHCD mode. In this paper, the new test bench with ion source structure is described in detail; and main experimental results are presented and discussed, including the effects of cathode heating power and magnetic flux density on discharge characteristics, also the ion spectra. The effects of the magnetic field on the source operating are emphasized, and a unique behavior of the DUHOCAMIS operating in the high magnetic field is expected and discussed especially.

Mechanical design and analysis for a low beta squeezed half-wave resonator

A superconducting half-wave resonator (HWR) of frequency=162.5 MHz and β=0.09 has been developed at Institute of Modern Physics. Mechanical stability of the low beta HWR cavity is a big challenge in cavity design and optimization. The mechanical deformations of a radio frequency superconducting cavity could be a source of instability, both in continues wave(CW) operation or in pulsed mode. Generally, the lower beta cavities have stronger Lorentz force detuning than that of the higher beta cavities. In this paper, a basic design consideration in the stiffening structure for the detuning effect caused by helium pressure and Lorentz force has been presented. The mechanical modal analysis has been investigated with finite element method(FEM). Based on these considerations, a new stiffening structure has been promoted for the HWR cavity. The computation results concerning the frequency shift show that the low beta HWR cavity with new stiffening structure has low frequency sensitivity coefficient, Lorentz force detuning coefficient KL and stable mechanical property.

Multi-field nanoindentation apparatus for measuring local mechanical properties of materials in external magnetic and electric fields

Nano/micro-scale mechanical properties of multiferroic materials can be controlled by the external magnetic or electric field due to the coupling interaction. For the first time, a modularized multi-field nanoindentation apparatus for carrying out testing on materials in external magnetostatic/electrostatic field is constructed. Technical issues, such as the application of magnetic/electric field and the processes to diminish the interference between external fields and the other parts of the apparatus, are addressed. Tests on calibration specimen indicate the feasibility of the apparatus. The load-displacement curves of ferromagnetic, ferroelectric and magnetoelectric materials in the presence/absence of external fields reveal the small-scale magnetomechanical and electromechanical coupling, showing as the Delta-E and Delta-H effects, i.e. the magnetic/electric field induced changes in the apparent elastic modulus and indentation hardness.

Study on the frequency tuning of half-wave resonator at IMP

A 162.5 MHz superconducting half-wave resonator (HWR) with geometry beta of 0.09 is being developed for Injector II of China Accelerator Driven Sub-critical System (CADS) Project at the Institute of Modern Physics (IMP). The HWR section composed of 16 HWR cavities will accelerate the proton beam from 2.1 MeV to 10 MeV. The RF and mechanical coupled analysis are essential in geometry design in order to predict the deformation of the cavity walls and the frequency shift caused by the deformation. In this paper, the detuning caused by both bath helium pressure and Lorentz force is analysed and a tuning system has been investigated and designed to compensate the detuning by deforming the cavity along the beam axis. The simulations performed with ANSYS code show that the tuning system can adjust and compensate the frequency drift due to external vibrations and helium pressure fluctuation during operation.
