Non-magnetic ion site disorder effects on the quantum magnetism of a spin-1/2 equilateral triangular lattice antiferromagnet

With the motivation to study how non-magnetic ion site disorder affects the quantum magnetism of Ba3CoSb2O9, a spin-1/2 equilateral triangular lattice antiferromagnet, we performed DC and AC susceptibility, specific heat, elastic and inelastic neutron scattering measurements on single crystalline samples of Ba2.87Sr0.13CoSb2O9 with Sr doping on non-magnetic Ba2+ ion sites. The results show that Ba2.87Sr0.13CoSb2O9 exhibits (i) a two-step magnetic transition at 2.7 K and 3.3 K, respectively; (ii) a possible canted 120-degree spin structure at zero field with reduced ordered moment as 1.24μB/Co; (iii) a series of spin state transitions for both H // ab-plane and H // c-axis. For H // ab-plane, the magnetization plateau feature related to the up-up-down phase is significantly suppressed; (iv) an inelastic neutron scattering spectrum with only one gapped mode at zero field, which splits to one gapless and one gapped mode at 9 T. All these features are distinctly different from those observed for the parent compound Ba3CoSb2O9, which demonstrates that the non-magnetic ion site disorder (the Sr doping) plays a complex role on the magnetic properties beyond the conventionally expected randomization of the exchange interactions. We propose the additional effects including the enhancement of quantum spin fluctuations and introduction of a possible spatial anisotropy through the local structural distortions.

Helical magnetic order and Fermi surface nesting in non-centrosymmetric ScFeGe

An investigation of the structural, magnetic, thermodynamic, and charge transport properties of non-centrosymmetric hexagonal ScFeGe reveals it to be an anisotropic metal with a transition to a weak itinerant incommensurate helimagnetic state below $T_N = 36$ K. Neutron diffraction measurements discovered a temperature and field independent helical wavevector \textbf{\textit{k}} = (0 0 0.193) with magnetic moments of 0.53 $μ_{B}$ per formula unit confined to the {\it ab}-plane. Density functional theory calculations are consistent with these measurements and find several bands that cross the Fermi level along the {\it c}-axis with a nearly degenerate set of flat bands just above the Fermi energy. The anisotropy found in the electrical transport is reflected in the calculated Fermi surface, which consists of several warped flat sheets along the $c$-axis with two regions of significant nesting, one of which has a wavevector that closely matches that found in the neutron diffraction. The electronic structure calculations, along with a strong anomaly in the {\it c}-axis conductivity at $T_N$, signal a Fermi surface driven magnetic transition, similar to that found in spin density wave materials. Magnetic fields applied in the {\it ab}-plane result in a metamagnetic transition with a threshold field of $\approx$ 6.7 T along with a sharp, strongly temperature dependent, discontinuity and a change in sign of the magnetoresistance for in-plane currents. Thus, ScFeGe is an ideal system to investigate the effect of in-plane magnetic fields on an easy-plane magnetic system, where the relative strength of the magnetic interactions and anisotropies determine the topology and magnetic structure.

Magnetic structure and exchange interactions in the layered semiconductor CrPS4

Compounds with two-dimensional (2D) layers of magnetic ions weakly connected by van der Waals bonding offer routes to enhance quantum behavior, stimulating both fundamental and applied interest. CrPS4 is one such magnetic van der Waals material, however, it has undergone only limited investigation. Here we present a comprehensive series of neutron scattering measurements to determine the magnetic structure and exchange interactions. The observed magnetic excitations allow a high degree of constraint on the model parameters not normally associated with measurements on a powder sample. The results demonstrate the 2D nature of the magnetic interactions, while also revealing the importance of interactions along 1D chains within the layers. The subtle role of competing interactions is observed, which manifest in a non-trivial magnetic transition and a tunable magnetic structure in a small applied magnetic field through a spin-flop transition. Our results on the bulk compound provide insights that can be applied to an understanding of the behavior of reduced layer CrPS4.

Superconductivity with Tc=7 K under pressure for Cu-, and Au-doped BaFe2As2

It is noteworthy that chemical substitution of BaFe2As2 (122) with the noble elements Cu and Au gives superconductivity with a maximum Tc=3 K, while Ag substitution (Ag-122) stays antiferromagnetic. For Ba(Fe1-xTMx)2As2, TM= Cu, Au, or Ag, and by doping an amount of x=0.04, a-lattice parameter slightly increases (0.4%) for all TM dopants, while c-lattice decreases (-0.2%) for TM=Cu, barely moves (0.05%) for Au, and increases (0.2%) for Ag. Despite the naive expectation that the noble elements of group 11 should affect the quantum properties of 122 similarly, they produce significant differences extending to the character of the ground state. For the Ag-122 crystal, evidence of only a filamentary superconductivity is noted with pressure. However, for Au and Cu doping (x=0.03) we find a substantial improvement in the superconductivity, with Tc increasing to 7 K and 7.5 K, respectively, under 20 kbar of pressure. As with the ambient pressure results, the identity of the dopant therefore has a substantial impact on the ground state properties. Density functional theory calculations corroborate these results and find evidence of strong electronic scattering for Au and Ag dopants, while Cu is comparatively less disruptive to the 122 electronic structure.

Partial Antiferromagnetic Helical Order in Fe$_3$PO$_4$O$_3$

Magnetic frustration in Fe$_3$PO$_4$O$_3$ has been shown to produce to an unusual magnetic state below T$_N = 163$ K, where incommensurate antiferromagnetic order is restricted to nanosized needle-like domains, as inferred from neutron powder diffraction. Here we show using single-crystal neutron diffraction that Fe$_3$PO$_4$O$_3$ does not exhibit a preferred ordering wavevector direction in the $ab$ plane despite having a well-defined ordering wavevector length. This results in the observation of continuous rings of scattering rather than satellite Bragg peaks. The lack of a preferred incommensurate ordering wavevector direction can be understood in terms of an antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model with nearest-neighbor ($J_1$) and second-neighbor ($J_2$) interactions, which produces a quasi-degenerate manifold of ordering wavevectors. This state appears to be similar to the partially ordered phase of MnSi, but in Fe$_3$PO$_4$O$_3$ arises in a frustrated antiferromagnet rather than a chiral ferromagnet.

Canted Magnetic Ground State of Quarter-Doped Manganites $R_{0.75}$Ca$_{0.25}$MnO$_3$ ($R$ = Y, Tb, Dy, Ho, and Er)

Polycrystalline samples of the quarter-doped manganites $R_{0.75}$Ca$_{0.25}$MnO$_3$ ($R$ = Y, Tb, Dy, Ho, and Er) were studied by X-ray diffraction and AC/DC susceptibility measurements. All five samples are orthorhombic and exhibit similar magnetic properties: enhanced ferromagnetism below $T_1$ ($\sim80$ K) and a spin glass (SG) state below $T_{SG}$ ($\sim30$ K). With increasing $R^{3+}$ ionic size, both $T_1$ and $T_{SG}$ generally increase. The single crystal neutron diffraction results on Tb$_{0.75}$Ca$_{0.25}$MnO$_3$ revealed that the SG state is mainly composed of a short-range ordered version of a novel canted (i.e. noncollinear) antiferromagnetic spin state. Furthermore, calculations based on the double exchange model for quarter-doped manganites reveal that this new magnetic phase provides a transition state between the ferromagnetic state and the theoretically predicted spin-orthogonal stripe phase.

Low-temperature crystal and magnetic structure of $α$-RuCl3

Single crystals of the Kitaev spin-liquid candidate $α$-RuCl$_3$ have been studied to determine low-temperature bulk properties, structure and the magnetic ground state. Refinements of x-ray diffraction data show that the low temperature crystal structure is described by space group $C2/m$ with a nearly-perfect honeycomb lattice exhibiting less than 0.2 \% in-plane distortion. The as-grown single crystals exhibit only one sharp magnetic transition at $T_{N}$ = 7~K. The magnetic order below this temperature exhibits a propagation vector of $k$ = (0, 1, 1/3), which coincides with a 3-layer stacking of the $C2/m$ unit cells. Magnetic transitions at higher temperatures up to 14~K can be introduced by deformations of the crystal that result in regions in the crystal with a 2-layer stacking sequence. The best fit symmetry allowed magnetic structure of the as-grown crystals shows that the spins lie in the $ac$-plane, with a zigzag configuration in each honeycomb layer. The three layer repeat out-of-plane structure can be refined as a 120$^o$ spiral order or a collinear structure with spin direction 35$^o$ away from the $a$-axis. The collinear spin configuration yields a slightly better fit and also is physically preferred. The average ordered moment in either structure is less than 0.45(5) $μ_B$ per Ru$^{3+}$ ion.

Static and Dynamical Properties of the Spin-1/2 Equilateral Triangular-Lattice Antiferromagnet Ba$_3$CoSb$_2$O$_9$

We present single-crystal neutron scattering measurements of the spin-1/2 equilateral triangular lattice antiferromagnet Ba$_3$CoSb$_2$O$_9$. Besides confirming that the Co$^{2+}$ magnetic moments lie in the ab plane for zero magnetic field, we determine all the exchange parameters of the minimal quasi-2D spin Hamiltonian, which confirms that Ba$_3$CoSb$_2$O$_9$ is an almost perfect realization of the paradigmatic model of frustrated quantum magnetism. A comparison with linear and nonlinear spin-wave theory reveals that quantum fluctuations induce a strong downward renormalization of the magnon dispersion.

Anomalous magneto-elastic and charge doping effects in thallium-doped BaFe2As2

Within the BaFe2As2 crystal lattice, we partially substitute thallium for barium and report the effects of interlayer coupling in Ba1-xTlxFe2As2 crystals. We demonstrate the unusual effects of magneto-elastic coupling and charge doping in this iron-arsenide material, whereby Neel temperature rises with small x, and then falls with additional x. Specifically, we find that Neel and structural transitions in BaFe2As2 (TN =Ts= 133 K) increase for x=0.05 (TN = 138 K, Ts = 140 K) from magnetization, heat capacity, resistivity, and neutron diffraction measurements. Evidence from single crystal X-ray diffraction and first principles calculations attributes the stronger magnetism in x=0.05 to magneto-elastic coupling related to the shorter intraplanar Fe-Fe bond distance. With further thallium substitution, the transition temperatures decrease for x = 0.09 (TN = Ts = 131 K), and this is due to charge doping. We illustrate that small changes related to 3d transition-metal state can have profound effects on magnetism.

Evolution of competing magnetic order in the Jeff=1/2 insulating state of Sr2Ir1-xRuxO4

We investigate the magnetic properties of the series Sr2Ir1-xRuxO4 with neutron, resonant x-ray and magnetization measurements. The results indicate an evolution and coexistence of magnetic structures via a spin flop transition from ab-plane to c-axis collinear order as the 5d Ir4+ ions are replaced with an increasing concentration of 4d Ru4+ ions. The magnetic structures within the ordered regime of the phase diagram (x<0.3) are reported. Despite the changes in magnetic structure no alteration of the Jeff=1/2 ground state is observed. The behavior of Sr2Ir1-xRuxO4 is consistent with electronic phase separation and diverges from a standard scenario of hole doping. The role of lattice alterations with doping on the magnetic and insulating behavior is considered. The results presented here provide insight into the magnetic insulating states in strong spin-orbit coupled materials and the role perturbations play in altering the behavior.

Ground state selection in XY pyrochlore antiferromagnets R$_{2}$Ge$_{2}$O$_{7}$ (R = Er, Yb)

Elastic neutron scattering, ac susceptibility, and specific heat experiments on the pyrochlores Er$_{2}$Ge$_{2}$O$_{7}$ and Yb$_{2}$Ge$_{2}$O$_{7}$ show that both systems are antiferromagnetically ordered in the $Γ_5$ manifold. The ground state is a $ψ_{3}$ phase for the Er sample and a $ψ_{2}$ or $ψ_{3}$ phase for the Yb sample, which suggests "Order by Disorder"(ObD) physics. Furthermore, we unify the various magnetic ground states of all known R$_{2}$B$_{2}$O$_{7}$ (R = Er, Yb, B = Sn, Ti, Ge) compounds through the enlarged XY type exchange interaction $J_{\pm}$ under chemical pressure. The mechanism for this evolution is discussed in terms of the phase diagram proposed in the theoretical study [Wong et al., Phys. Rev. B 88, 144402, (2013)].

Growth and Characterization of Ce- Substituted Nd2Fe14B Single Crystals

Single crystals of (Nd1-xCex)2Fe14B are grown out of Fe-(Nd,Ce) flux. Chemical and structural analysis of the crystals indicates that (Nd1-xCex)2Fe14B forms a solid solution until at least x = 0.38 with a Vegard-like variation of the lattice constants with x. Refinements of single crystal neutron diffraction data indicate that Ce has a slight site preference (7:3) for the 4g rare earth site over the 4f site. Magnetization measurements show that for x = 0.38 the saturation magnetization at 400 K, a temperature important to applications, falls from 29.8 for the parent Nd2Fe14B to 27.6 (mu)B/f.u., the anisotropy field decreases from 5.5 T to 4.7 T, and the Curie temperature decreases from 586 to 543 K. First principles calculations carried out within density functional theory are used to explain the decrease in magnetic properties due to Ce substitution. Though the presence of the lower-cost and more abundant Ce slightly affects these important magnetic characteristics, this decrease is not large enough to affect a multitude of applications. Ce-substituted Nd2Fe14B is therefore a potential high-performance permanent magnet material with substantially reduced Nd content.

High pressure floating zone growth and structural properties of ferrimagnetic quantum paraelectric BaFe$_{12}$O$_{19}$

High quality single crystals of BaFe$_{12}$O$_{19}$ were grown using the floating zone technique in flowing oxygen pressurized to 100 atm. Single crystal neutron diffraction was used to determine the nuclear and magnetic structure of BaFe$_{12}$O$_{19}$ at 4 K and 295 K. At both temperatures, there exist local electric dipoles formed by the off-mirror-plane displacements of magnetic Fe$^{3+}$ ions at the bipyramidal sites. The displacement at 4 K is about half of that at room temperature. The temperature dependence of the specific heat shows no anomaly associated with long range polar ordering in the temperature range from 1.90-300 K. The inverse dielectric permittivity, $1/\varepsilon$, along the c-axis shows a $T^2$ temperature dependence between 10 K and 20 K, with a significantly reduced temperature dependence displayed below 10 K. Moreover, as the sample is cooled below 1.4 K there is an anomalous sharp upturn in $1/\varepsilon$. These features resemble those of classic quantum paraelectrics such as SrTiO$_3$. The presence of the upturn in $1/\varepsilon$ indicates that BaFe$_{12}$O$_{19}$ is a critical quantum paraelectric system with Fe$^{3+}$ ions involved in both magnetic and electric dipole formation.

Influence of interstitial Mn on magnetism in room-temperature ferromagnet Mn(1+delta)Sb

We report elastic and inelastic neutron scattering measurements of the high-TC ferromagnet Mn(1+delta)Sb. Measurements were performed on a large, TC=434 K, single crystal with interstitial Mn content of delta~0.13. The neutron diffraction results reveal that the interstitial Mn has a magnetic moment, and that it is aligned antiparallel to the main Mn moment. We perform density functional theory calculations including the interstitial Mn, and find the interstitial to be magnetic in agreement with the diffraction data. The inelastic neutron scattering measurements reveal two features in the magnetic dynamics: i) a spin-wave-like dispersion emanating from ferromagnetic Bragg positions (H K 2n), and ii) a broad, non-dispersive signal centered at forbidden Bragg positions (H$\,$K$\,$2$n$+1). The inelastic spectrum cannot be modeled by simple linear spin-wave theory calculations, and appears to be significantly altered by the presence of the interstitial Mn ions. The results show that the influence of the interstitial Mn on the magnetic state in this system is more important than previously understood.

Strong competition between orbital-ordering and itinerancy in a frustrated spinel vanadate

The crossover from localized- to itinerant-electron behavior is associated with many intriguing phenomena in condensed-matter physics. In this paper, we investigate the crossover from localized to itinerant regimes in the spinel system Mn$_{1-x}$Co$_x$V$_2$O$_4$. At low Co doping, orbital order (OO) of the localized electrons on the V3+ ions suppresses magnetic frustration by triggering a tetragonal distortion. With Co doping, electronic itinerancy melts the OO and suppresses the structural phase transition while the reduced spin-lattice coupling produces magnetic frustration. Neutron scattering measurements and first-principles-guided spin models reveal that the non-collinear state at high Co doping is produced by weakened local anisotropy and enhanced Co-V spin interactions.

Structural and Magnetic Phase Transitions in CeCu$_{6-x}T_x$ ($T$ = Ag, Pd)

The structural and the magnetic properties of CeCu$_{6-x}$Ag$_x$ (0 $\leq$ $x$ $\leq$ 0.85) and CeCu$_{6-x}$Pd$_x$ (0 $\leq$ $x$ $\leq$ 0.4) have been studied using neutron diffraction, resonant ultrasound spectroscopy (RUS), heat capacity, x-ray diffraction measurements and first principles calculations. The structural and magnetic phase diagrams of CeCu$_{6-x}$Ag$_x$ and CeCu$_{6-x}$Pd$_x$ as a function of Ag/Pd composition are reported. The end member, CeCu$_6$, undergoes a structural phase transition from an orthorhombic ($Pnma$) to a monoclinic ($P2_1/c$) phase at 240 K. In CeCu$_{6-x}$Ag$_x$, the structural phase transition temperature (${T_{s}}$) decreases linearly with Ag concentration and extrapolates to zero at $x_{S}$ $\approx$ 0.1. The structural transition in CeCu$_{6-x}$Pd$_x$ remains unperturbed with Pd substitution within the range of our study. The lattice constant $b$ slightly decreases with Ag/Pd doping, whereas, $a$ and $c$ increase with an overall increase in the unit cell volume. Both systems, CeCu$_{6-x}$Ag$_x$ and CeCu$_{6-x}$Pd$_x$, exhibit a magnetic quantum critical point (QCP), at $x$ $\approx$ 0.2 and $x$ $\approx$ 0.05 respectively. Near the QCP, long range antiferromagnetic ordering takes place at an incommensurate wave vector ($δ_1$ 0 $δ_2$) where $δ_1 \sim 0.62$, $δ_2 \sim 0.25$, $x$ = 0.125 for CeCu$_{6-x}$Pd$_x$ and $δ_1 \sim 0.64$, $δ_2 \sim 0.3$, $x$ = 0.3 for CeCu$_{6-x}$Ag$_x$. The magnetic structure consists of an amplitude modulation of the Ce-moments which are aligned along the $c$-axis of the orthorhombic unit cell.

Absence of structural transition in TM0.5IrTe2 (TM=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni)

TM-doped IrTe2(TM=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni) compounds were synthesized by solid state reaction. Single crystal x-ray diffraction experiments indicate that part of the doped TM ions (TM=Fe, Co, and Ni) substitute for Ir, and the rest intercalate into the octahedral interstitial sites located in between IrTe2 layers. Due to the lattice mismatch between MnTe2 and IrTe2, Mn has limited solubility in IrTe2 lattice. The trigonal structure is stable in the whole temperature range 1.80<T<300K for all doped compositions. No long range magnetic order or superconductivity was observed in any doped compositions above 1.80K. A spin glass behavior below 10K was observed in Fe-doped IrTe2 from the temperature dependence of magnetization, electrical resistivity, and specific heat. The low temperature specific heat data suggest the electron density of states is enhanced in Fe- and Co-doped compositions but reduced in Ni-doped IrTe2. With the 3d transition metal doping the trigonal a-lattice parameters increases but the c-lattice parameter decreases. Detailed analysis of the single crystal x-ray diffraction data shows that interlayer Te-Te distance increases despite a reduced c-lattice. The importance of the Te-Te, Te-Ir, and Ir-Ir bonding is discussed.

Competition between the structural phase transition and superconductivity in Ir$_{1-x}$Pt$_x$Te$_2$ as revealed by pressure effects

Pressure-dependent transport measurements of Ir$_{1-x}$Pt$_x$Te$_2$ are reported. With increasing pressure, the structural phase transition at high temperatures is enhanced while its superconducting transition at low temperatures is suppressed. These pressure effects make Ir$_{1-x}$Pt$_x$Te$_2$ distinct from other studied $T$X$_2$ systems exhibiting a charge density wave (CDW) state, in which pressure usually suppresses the CDW state and enhances the superconducting state. The results reveal that the emergence of superconductivity competes with the stabilization of the low temperature monoclinic phase in Ir$_{1-x}$Pt$_x$Te$_2$.

Dy-V magnetic interaction and local structure bias on the complex spin and orbital ordering in Dy$_{1-x}$Tb$_{x}$VO$_3$ (x\,=\,0 and 0.2)

The spin and orbital ordering in Dy$_{1-x}$Tb$_{x}$VO$_3$ (x\,=\,0 and 0.2) was studied by measuring x-ray powder diffraction, magnetization, specific heat, and neutron single crystal diffraction. The results show that G-OO/C-AF and C-OO/G-AF phases coexist in Dy$_{0.8}$Tb$_{0.20}$VO$_3$ in the temperature range 2\,K$\sim$60\,K and the volume fraction of each phase is temperature and field dependent. The ordering of Dy moments at T*\,=\,12\,K induces a transition from G-OO/C-AF to a C-OO/G-AF phase. Magnetic fields suppress the long range order of Dy moments and thus the C-OO/G-AF phase below T*. The polarized moments induced at the Dy sublattice by external magnetic fields couple to the V 3d moments and this coupling favors the G-OO/C-AF state. Also discussed is the effect of the Dy-V magnetic interaction and local structure distortion on the spin and orbital ordering in Dy$_{1-x}$Tb$_{x}$VO$_3$.

Field-induced magnetic structures in Tb2Ti2O7 spin liquid under field H || [111]

We have studied the field-induced magnetic structures of Tb2Ti2O7 pyrochlore by single-crystal neutron diffraction under a field applied along the [111] local anisotropy axis, up to H=12T and down to T=40mK. We collected a hundred magnetic Bragg peaks for each field and temperature value and refined the magnetic structures with k=0 propagation vector by performing a symmetry analysis in the space group R-3m, reducing the number of free parameters to three only. We observe a gradual reorientation of the Tb magnetic moments towards the field direction, close to a "3-in, 1-out / 1-in, 3-out" spin structure in the whole field range 0.05-12T. We perform a quantitative comparison with mean-field calculations and we propose the presence of a low-temperature dynamic symmetry breaking of the local trigonal symmetry, akin to a dynamic Jahn-Teller effect, i.e. preserving the overall cubic symmetry. We discuss the possible origin of this off-diagonal mixing term in the crystal field hamiltonian in terms of quadrupole-quadrupole interaction or magneto-elastic effects.

Magnetic structure and spin excitations in BaMn2Bi2

We present a single crystal neutron scattering study of BaMn2Bi2, a recently synthesized material with the same ThCr2Si2-type structure found in several Fe-based unconventional superconducting materials. We show long range magnetic order, in the form of a G-type antiferromagnetic structure, to exist up to 390 K with an indication of a structural transition at 100 K. Utilizing inelastic neutron scattering we observe a spin-gap of 16meV, with spin-waves extending up to 55 meV. We find these magnetic excitations to be well fit to a J1-J2-Jc Heisenberg model and present values for the exchange interactions. The spin wave spectrum appears to be unchanged by the 100 K structural phase transition.

Phonon self-energy and origin of anomalous neutron scattering spectra in SnTe and PbTe thermoelectrics

The anharmonic lattice dynamics of rock-salt thermoelectric compounds SnTe and PbTe are investigated with inelastic neutron scattering (INS) and first-principles calculations. The experiments show that, surprisingly, although SnTe is closer to the ferroelectric instability, phonon spectra in PbTe exhibit a more anharmonic character. This behavior is reproduced in first-principles calculations of the temperature-dependent phonon self-energy. Our simulations reveal how the nesting of phonon dispersions induces prominent features in the self-energy, which account for the measured INS spectra and their temperature dependence. We establish that the phase-space for three-phonon scattering processes, rather than just the proximity to the lattice instability, is the mechanism determining the complex spectrum of the transverse-optical ferroelectric mode.

Field evolution of the magnetic structures in Er$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$ through the critical point

We have measured neutron diffraction patterns in a single crystal sample of the pyrochlore compound Er$_2$Ti$_2$O$_7$ in the antiferromagnetic phase (T=0.3\,K), as a function of the magnetic field, up to 6\,T, applied along the [110] direction. We determine all the characteristics of the magnetic structure throughout the quantum critical point at $H_c$=2\,T. As a main result, all Er moments align along the field at $H_c$ and their values reach a minimum. Using a four-sublattice self-consistent calculation, we show that the evolution of the magnetic structure and the value of the critical field are rather well reproduced using the same anisotropic exchange tensor as that accounting for the local paramagnetic susceptibility. In contrast, an isotropic exchange tensor does not match the moment variations through the critical point. The model also accounts semi-quantitatively for other experimental data previously measured, such as the field dependence of the heat capacity, energy of the dispersionless inelastic modes and transition temperature.
