An energy independent scaling of transverse momentum spectra of direct (prompt) photons from two-body processes in high-energy proton-proton collisions

Transverse momentum spectra of direct (prompt) photons from two-body processes in high-energy proton-proton (p+p) collisions are analyzed in this paper. We collected the experimental invariant cross-sections at mid-rapidity in p+p collisions measured by the UA6, CCOR, R806, R110, PHENIX, NA24, CMS, ALICE, and ATLAS Collaborations over a center-of-mass energy range from 24.3 GeV to 13 TeV. In fitting the data, we used different kinds of functions which include the revised Tsallis--Pareto-type function (the TP-like function) at the particle level, the convolution of two TP-like functions at the quark level, and the root-sum-of-squares of two revised Tsallis-like functions in which the quark chemical potentials $μ_i=μ_B/3$ or $μ_i=0$, where $μ_B$ is the baryon chemical potential. We have extracted the values of three main free parameters: the effective temperature $T$, power index $n_0$ (or entropy index $q$), and correction index $a_0$. After analyzing the changing trends of the parameters, we found that $T$, $q$, and $a_0$ increase and $n_0$ decreases with the increase of collision energy. Based on the analyses of transverse momentum spectra, an energy independent scaling, i.e. the $x_T$ scaling, is obtained.

Analysis of identified particle transverse momentum spectra produced in pp, p--Pb and Pb--Pb collisions at the LHC using Tsallis--Pareto-type function

In the framework of a multi-source thermal model at the partonic-level, we have analyzed transverse momentum spectra of hadrons measured by the ALICE Collaboration in proton-proton ($pp$ or $p$-$p$) collisions at the center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=7$ and 13 TeV, proton-lead ($p$-Pb) collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV, and lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV. For meson(baryon), the contributions of two(three) constituent quarks are considered, in which each quark contributes to hadron transverse momentum to obey the revised phenomenological Tsallis transverse momentum distribution for the Maxwell-Boltzmann particles (the TP-like function in short) with isotropic random azimuthal angle. Three main parameters, namely, the revised index $a_0$, effective temperature $T$, and entropy-related index $n$ are obtained, which show the same tendency for small and large systems with respect to the centrality (or multiplicity) of events, rest mass of hadrons, and constituent mass of quarks.

Analyzing transverse momentum spectra by a new method in high-energy collisions

We analyzed the transverse momentum spectra of positively and negatively charged pions ($π^+$ and $π^-$), positively and negatively charged kaons ($K^+$ and $K^-$), protons and antiprotons ($p$ and $\bar p$), as well as $ϕ$ produced in mid-(pseudo)rapidity region in central nucleus--nucleus (AA) collisions over a center-of-mass energy range from 2.16 to 2760 GeV per nucleon pair. The transverse momentum of the considered particle is regarded as the joint contribution of two participant partons which obey the modified Tsallis-like transverse momentum distribution and have random azimuths in superposition. The calculation of transverse momentum distribution of particles is performed by the Monte Carlo method and compared with the experimental data measured by international collaborations. The excitation functions of effective temperature and other parameters are obtained in the considered energy range. With the increase of collision energy, the effective temperature parameter increases quickly and then slowly. The boundary appears at around 5 GeV, which means the change of reaction mechanism and/or generated matter.

Centrality-dependent chemical potentials of light hadrons and quarks based on transverse momentum spectra and particle yield ratios in Au-Au collisions

We describe the transverse momentum spectra of $π^\pm$, $K^\pm$, $p$, and $\bar{p}$ produced in different centralities gold-gold (Au-Au) collisions at different collision energies range from 7.7 to 62.4 GeV by a two-component Erlang distribution. The fitting results are consistent with the experimental data, and the centrality- and energy-dependent yield ratios of negative to positive particles are obtained from the normalization constants. Based on the yield ratios, the energy- and centrality-dependent chemical potentials of light hadrons and quarks are extracted. The study shows that the dependences of the three types of particle yield ratios on centrality are not significant, especially for $π$. The logarithms of the three yield ratios show obvious linear dependence on $1/\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ over a range from 7.7 to 62.4 GeV. The extracted chemical potentials show obvious dependence on energy, and decrease with the increase of energy. The dependences of the energy-dependent chemical potentials of light hadrons and quarks on centrality are relatively more obvious in low energy region. The derived curves of chemical potentials for all centralities, from the linear fits of the logarithms of yield ratios vs energy, have the extremum at the same energy of 3.526 GeV, which possibly is the critical energy of phase transition from a liquid-like hadron state to a gas-like quark state in the collision system. With the increase of energy, all types of chemical potentials become small and tend to zero at very high energy, which indicates that with the increase of energy, the hadronic interactions gradually fade and the partonic interactions gradually become greater.

Investigation of the freeze-out parameters in B-B, O-O, Ca-Ca and Au-Au collisions at 39 GeV

We analyzed the transverse momentum spectra of proton, deuteron and triton in Boron-Boron (B-B), Oxygen-Oxygen (O-O), and Calcium-Calcium (Ca-Ca) central collisions, as well as in several centrality bins in Gold-Gold (Au-Au) collisions at 39 GeV by using the blast wave model with Tsallis statistics. The bulk properties in terms of kinetic freeze-out temperature, transverse flow velocity and kinetic freeze-out volume are extracted from the model by the least square method. We observed that with increasing the rest mass of the particle, the kinetic freeze-out temperature becomes larger, while transverse flow velocity and the kinetic freeze-out volume reduces. These parameters are also found to depend on the size of the system. Larger the size of the system, the larger they are. Furthermore, the kinetic freeze-out temperature in peripheral Au-Au collisions is close to the central O-O collisions. We also observed that the above parameters depend on the centrality, and they decrease from central to peripheral collisions. Besides, we also extracted the entropy-index parameter $q$, and the parameter $N_0$ which shows the multiplicity. Both of them depend on the size of interacting the system, rest mass of the particle and centrality. Both $q$ and $N_0$ are larger for lighter particles, and the former is smaller for large systems while the latter is larger, and the former decrease with increasing centrality while the latter increase.

Multi-Source Thermal Model Describing Transverse Momentum Spectra of Final-State Particles in High Energy Collisions

In this mini review article, the transverse momentum spectra of final-state particles produced in high energy hadron-hadron, hadron-nucleus, and nucleus-nucleus collisions described by the multi-source thermal model at the quark or parton level is summarized. In the model, the participant or contributor quarks or partons are considered to contribute together to the transverse momentum distribution of final-state particles with different modes of contributions. The concrete mode of contribution is generally determined by the difference of azimuthal angles of contributor partons in their emissions.

Particle species and energy dependencies of freeze-out parameters in high-energy proton-proton collisions

We used blast wave model with Tsallis statistics to analyze the experimental data measured by ALICE Collaboration in proton-proton collisions at Large Hadron Collider and extracted the related parameters (kinetic freeze-out temperature, transverse flow velocity and kinetic freeze-out volume of emission source) from transverse momentum spectra of the particles. We found that the kinetic freeze-out temperature and kinetic freeze-out volume are mass dependent. The former increase while the latter decrease with the particle mass which is the evidence of a mass as well as volume differential kinetic freeze-out scenario. Furthermore we extracted the mean transverse momentum and initial temperature by an indirect method and observed that they increase with mass of the particles. All the above discussed parameters are observed to increase with energy. Triton ($t$), hyper-triton (${^3_{\barΛ} H}$) and helion (${^3 He}$) and their anti-matter are observed to freeze-out at the same time due to isospin symmetry.

Pseudorapidity dependence of the $p_T$ spectra of charged hadrons in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 0.9 and 2.36 TeV

We report the predictions of different Monte Carlo event generators including HIJING, Pythia, and QGSJETII in comparison with the experimental data measured by the CMS Collaboration at CERN in proton-proton ($pp$) collisions at center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 0.9 and 2.36 TeV. The CMS experimental transverse momentum ($p_T$ or $p_{\perp}$) spectra of charged hadrons were measured for pseudorapidity range 0 $\le$ $η$ $\le$ 2.4 with bin width of $η$ = 0.2 (for $p_T$ from 0.1 to 2 GeV/$c$) and a single bin of $η$ for $\lvert$$η$$\rvert$ $<$ 2.4 (for $p_T$ from 0.1 to 4 GeV/$c$). Pythia reproduced the $p_T$ spectra with reasonable agreement for most of the $p_T$ range. It depicts better results in the case of the $|η|<$ 2.4 than HIJING and QGSJETII which could reproduce the spectra in a limited $p_T$ range. Furthermore, to analyze the $p_T$ spectra of charged hadrons measured by the CMS Collaboration, we used a three component function (structured from the Boltzmann distribution) and the $q$-dual function (from the $q$-dual statistics) to extract parameter values relevant for the study of bulk properties of hadronic matter at high energy. We have also applied the two analytic functions over the model predictions. The values extracted by the functions from the HIJING and Pythia models are closer to the experimental data than the QGSJETII model. Although the models could reproduce the $p_T$ spectra of all charged particles in some of the $p_T$ range but none of them could reproduce the distributions over the entire $p_T$ range and in all the pseudorapidity regions.

Thermal freeze-out parameters and pseudo-entropy from charged hadron spectra in high energy collisions

We collected the transverse momentum (mass) spectra of charged hadrons ($π^{-}$, $π^{+}$, $K^{-}$, $K^{+}$, $\overline{p}$, and $p$) produced in collisions over a center-of-mass energy range from 2.70 to 200 GeV (per nucleon pair). The modified Tsallis--Pareto-type function (the TP-like function) with average transverse flow velocity is used to describe the contribution of participant or constituent quarks to transverse momentum of considered hadron. The experimental spectra of $π^{\mp}$ and $K^{\mp}$ (or $\overline{p}$ and $p$) are fitted by the convolution of two (or three) TP-like functions due to the fact that two (or three) constituent quarks are regarded as two (or three) energy resources in the formation of considered hadron. From the reasonable fits to the spectra, the thermal freeze-out parameters are extracted, and the pseudo-entropy is newly defined and extracted. Some parameters quickly change in the energy range of less than 7.7 GeV, and slowly change in the energy range of greater than 7.7 GeV, indicating the variation of collision mechanism at around 7.7 GeV.

Analysis of multiplicity dependencies of midrapidity pt distributions of identified charged particles in p+p collisions at (s)1/2=7 TeV at the LHC

Multiplicity dependencies of midrapidity transverse momentum distributions of identified charged particles in inelastic proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), measured by ALICE Collaboration, have been analyzed. Centrality dependence of kinetic freeze-out temperature and transverse flow velocity in high energy nuclear collisions

Centrality-dependent double-differential transverse momentum spectra of charged pions, kaons, and (anti)protons produced in mid-pseudorapidity interval in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=200$ GeV gold-gold and deuteron-gold collisions with different centralities are analyzed by the blast-wave model with Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics. Meanwhile, the mentioned spectra in mid-rapidity interval in $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV lead-lead and $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV proton-lead collisions with different centralities are analyzed by the same model. The model results are approximately in agreement with the experimental data in special transverse momentum ranges. It is shown that with the increase of event centrality and energy, the kinetic freeze-out temperature of the emission source and the transverse flow velocity of the produced particles slightly increase in some cases but they do not give an obvious change in other cases. Meanwhile, the kinetic freeze-out temperature (transverse flow velocity) increases (decreases) with the increase of particle mass. The average transverse momentum and initial temperature increase with the increase of event centrality, collision energy, and particle mass. This work also confirms the maximum size dependent effect, which states that the main parameters such as the kinetic freeze-out temperature and transverse flow velocity are mainly determined by the heaviest nucleus from proton-nucleus to nucleus-nucleus collisions.

Dependence of related parameters on centrality and mass in a new treatment for transverse momentum spectra in high energy collisions

We collected the experimental data of transverse momentum spectra of identified particles produced in proton-proton ($p$-$p$), deuteron-gold ($d$-Au or $d$-$A$), gold-gold (Au-Au or $A$-$A$), proton-lead ($p$-Pb or $p$-$A$), and lead-lead (Pb-Pb or $A$-$A$) collisions measured by the ALICE, CMS, LHCb, NA49, NA61/SHINE, PHENIX, and STAR collaborations at different center-of mass energies. The multisource thermal model at the quark level or the participant quark model is used to describe the experimental data. The free parameters, the effective temperature $T$, entropy index-related $n$, and revised index $a_{0}$, in the revised Tsallis--Pareto-type function are extracted at the quark level. In most cases, $T$ and $n$ in central collisions are larger than those in peripheral collisions, and $a_0$ does not change in different centrality classes. With the increase in the mass of produced particle or participant quark, $T$ and $a_0$ increase, and $n$ does not change significantly. The behaviors of related parameters from $p$-$p$, $p(d)$-$A$, and $A$-$A$ collisions are similar.

An analysis of transverse momentum spectra of various jets produced in high energy collisions

With the framework of the multi-source thermal model, we analyze the experimental transverse momentum spectra of various jets produced in different collisions at high energies. Two energy sources, a projectile participant quark and a target participant quark, are considered. Each energy source (each participant quark) is assumed to contribute to the transverse momentum distribution to be the TP-like function, i.e. a revised Tsallis--Pareto-type function. The contribution of the two participant quarks to the transverse momentum distribution is then the convolution of two TP-like functions. The model distribution can be used to fit the experimental spectra measured by different collaborations. The related parameters such as the entropy index-related, effective temperature, and revised index are then obtained. The trends of these parameters are useful to understand the characteristic of high energy collisions.

Dependence of temperatures and kinetic freeze-out volume on centrality in Au-Au and Pb-Pb collisions at high energy

Centrality-dependent double-differential transverse momentum spectra of negatively charged particles ($π^-$, $K^-$ and $\bar p$) at mid-(pseudo)rapidity interval in nuclear collisions are analyzed by the standard distribution in terms of multi-component. The experimental data measured in gold-gold (Au-Au) collisions by the PHENIX Collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions by the ALICE Collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are studied. The effective temperature, initial temperature, kinetic freeze-out temperature, transverse flow velocity and kinetic freeze-out volume are extracted from the fitting to transverse momentum spectra. We observed, that the mentioned five quantities increase with the increase of event centrality due to the fact that the average transverse momentum increases with the increase of event centrality. This renders that larger momentum (energy) transfer and further multiple-scattering had happened in central centrality.

Energy scan/dependence of kinetic freeze-out scenarios of multi-strange and other identified particles in central nucleus-nucleus collisions

The transverse momentum (mass) spectra of the multi-strange and non-multi-strange (i.e. other identified) particles in central gold-gold (Au-Au), lead-lead (Pb-Pb), argon-muriate (Ar-KCl) and nickel-nickel (Ni-Ni) collisions over a wide energy range have been studied in this work. The experimental data measured by various collaborations have been analyzed. The blast-wave fit with Tsallis statistics is used to extract the kinetic freeze-out temperature and transverse flow velocity from the experimental data of transverse momentum (mass) spectra. The extracted parameters increase with the increase of collision energy and appear with the trend of saturation at the Beam Energy Scan (BES) energies at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). This saturation implies that the onset energy of phase transition of partial deconfinement is 7.7 GeV and that of whole deconfinement is 39 GeV. Furthermore, the energy scan/dependence of kinetic freeze-out scenarios are observed for the multi-strange and other identified particles, though the multiple freeze-out scenarios are also observed for various particles.

Excitation function of initial temperature of heavy flavor quarkonium emission source in high energy collisions

The transverse momentum spectra of $J/ψ$, $ψ(2S)$, and $Υ(nS, n=1,2,3)$ produced in proton-proton ($p$+$p$), proton-antiproton ($p$+$\bar{p}$), proton-lead ($p$+Pb), gold-gold (Au+Au), and lead-lead (Pb+Pb) collisions over a wide energy range are analyzed by the (two-component) Erlang distribution, the Hagedorn function (the inverse power-law), and the Tsallis-Levy function. The initial temperature is obtained from the color string percolation model due to the fit by the (two-component) Erlang distribution in the framework of multisource thermal model. The excitation functions of some parameters such as the mean transverse momentum and initial temperature increase from dozens of GeV to above 10 TeV. The mean transverse momentum and initial temperature decrease (increase slightly or do not change obviously) with the increase of rapidity (centrality). Meanwhile, the mean transverse momentum of $Υ(nS, n=1,2,3)$ is larger than that of $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$, and the initial temperature for $Υ(nS, n=1,2,3)$ emission is higher than that for $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ emission, which shows a mass-dependent behavior.

Excitation functions of related parameters from transverse momentum (mass) spectra in high energy collisions

Transverse momentum (mass) spectra of positively and negatively charged pions, positively and negatively charged kaons, protons and antiprotons produced at mid-(pseudo)rapidity in various collisions at high energies are analyzed in this work. The experimental data measured in central gold-gold, central lead-lead, and inelastic proton-proton collisions by several international collaborations are studied. The (two-component) standard distribution is used to fit the data and extract the excitation function of effective temperature. Then, the excitation functions of kinetic freeze-out temperature, transverse flow velocity, and initial temperature are obtained. In the considered collisions, the four parameters increase with the increase of collision energy in general, and the kinetic freeze-out temperature appears the trend of saturation at the top Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and the Large Hadron Collider.

Kinetic freeze-out properties from transverse momentum spectra of pions in high energy proton-proton collisions

Transverse momentum spectra of negative and positive pions produced at mid-(pseudo)rapidity in inelastic or non-single-diffractive proton-proton collisions over a center-of-mass energy, $\sqrt{s}$, range from a few GeV to above 10 TeV are analyzed by the blast-wave fit with Boltzmann (Tsallis) distribution. The blast-wave fit results are well fitting to the experimental data measured by several collaborations. In a particular superposition with Hagedorn function, both the excitation functions of kinetic freeze-out temperature ($T_0$) of emission source and transverse flow velocity ($β_T$) of produced particles obtained from a given selection in the blast-wave fit with Boltzmann distribution have a hill at $\sqrt{s}\approx10$ GeV, a drop at dozens of GeV, and then an increase from dozens of GeV to above 10 TeV. However, both the excitation functions of $T_0$ and $β_T$ obtained in the blast-wave fit with Tsallis distribution do not show such a complex structure, but a very low hill. In another selection for the parameters or in the superposition with the usual step function, $T_0$ and $β_T$ increase generally quickly from a few GeV to about 10 GeV and then slightly at above 10 GeV, there is no such the complex structure, when also studying nucleus-nucleus collisions.

Initial, effective, and kinetic freeze-out temperatures from transverse momentum spectra in high energy proton(deuteron)-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions

The transverse momentum spectra of charged particles produced in proton(deuteron)-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at high energies are analyzed by the Hagedorn thermal model and the standard distribution in terms of multi-component. The experimental data measured in central and peripheral gold-gold (Au-Au) and deuteron-gold ($d$-Au) collisions by the PHENIX Collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), as well as in central and peripheral lead-lead (Pb-Pb) and proton-lead ($p$-Pb) collisions by the ALICE Collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are fitted by the two models. The initial, effective, and kinetic freeze-out temperatures are then extracted from the fitting to the transverse momentum spectra. It is shown that the initial temperature is larger than the effective temperature, and the effective temperature is larger than the kinetic freeze-out temperature. The three types of temperatures in central collisions are comparable with those in peripheral collisions, and those at the LHC are comparable with those at the RHIC.

Light particle and quark chemical potentials from negatively to positively charged particle yield ratios corrected by removing strong and weak decays

The yield ratios of negatively to positively charged pions ($π^-/π^+$), negatively to positively charged kaons ($K^-/K^+$), and anti-protons to protons ($\bar p/p$) produced in mid-rapidity interval in central gold-gold (Au-Au) collisions, central lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions, and inelastic (INEL) or non-single-diffractive (NSD) proton-proton ($pp$) collisions, as well as in forward rapidity region in INEL $pp$ collisions are analyzed in the present work. Over an energy range from a few GeV to above 10 TeV, the chemical potentials of light flavor particles (pion, kaon, and proton) and quarks (up, down, and strange quarks) are extracted from the mentioned yield ratios in which the contributions of strong decay from high-mass resonance and weak decay from heavy flavor hadrons are removed. Most energy dependent chemical potentials show the maximum at about 4 GeV, while the energy dependent yield ratios do not show such an extremum.

Multiparticle production and initial quasi-temperature from proton induced carbon collisions at $p_{Lab}=31$ GeV/$c$

The momentum spectra of charged pions ($π^+$ and $π^-$) and kaons ($K^+$ and $K^-$), as well as protons ($p$), produced in the beam protons induced collisions in a 90-cm-long graphite target [proton-carbon ($p$-C) collisions] at the beam momentum $p_{Lab}=31$ GeV/$c$ are studied in the framework of a multisource thermal model by using Boltzmann distribution and Monte Carlo method. The theoretical model results are approximately in agreement with the experimental data measured by the NA61/SHINE Collaboration. The related free parameters (effective temperature, rapidity shifts, and fraction of non-leading protons) and derived quantities (average transverse momentum and initial quasi-temperature) under given experimental conditions are obtained. It is shown that the considered free parameters and derived quantities to be strongly dependent on emission angle over a range from 0 to 380 mrad and weakly dependent on longitudinal position (graphite target thickness) over a range from 0 to 90 cm.

Possible scenarios for single, double, or multiple kinetic freeze-out in high energy collisions

Transverse momentum spectra of different types of particles produced in mid-rapidity interval in central and peripheral gold-gold (Au-Au) collisions, central and peripheral deuteron-gold ($d$-Au) collisions, and inelastic (INEL) or non-single-diffractive (NSD) proton-proton ($pp$) collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC), as well as in central and peripheral lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions, central and peripheral proton-lead ($p$-Pb) collisions, and INEL or NSD $pp$ collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are analyzed by the blast-wave model with Boltzmann-Gibbs statistics. The model results are largely consist with the experimental data in special transverse momentum ranges measured by the PHENIX, STAR, ALICE, and CMS Collaborations. It is showed that the kinetic freeze-out temperature of emission source is dependent on particle mass, which reveals the scenario for multiple kinetic freeze-out in collisions at the RHIC and LHC. The scenario for single or double kinetic freeze-out is not observed in this study.

An Evidence of Mass Dependent Differential Kinetic Freeze-out Scenario Observed in Pb-Pb Collisions at 2.76 TeV

Transverse momentum spectra of different particles produced in mid-rapidity interval in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions with different centrality intervals, measured by the ALICE Collaboration at center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV, are conformably and approximately described by the Tsallis distribution. The dependences of parameters (effective temperature, entropy index, and normalization factor) on event centrality and particle rest mass are obtained. The source temperature at the kinetic freeze-out is obtained to be the intercept in the linear relation between effective temperature and particle rest mass, while the particle transverse flow velocity is approximately extracted to be the slope in the linear relation between mean transverse momentum and particle rest mass. It is shown that the source temperature increases with increase of particle rest mass, which exhibits an evidence of mass dependent differential kinetic freeze-out scenario or multiple kinetic freeze-out scenario.

Comparing Erlang distribution and Schwinger mechanism on transverse momentum spectra in high energy collisions

We study the transverse momentum spectra of J/psi and Upsilon mesons by using two methods: the two-component Erlang distribution and the two-component Schwinger mechanism. The results obtained by the two methods are compared and found to be in agreement with the experimental data of proton-proton (pp), proton-lead (p-Pb), and lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions measured by the LHCb and ALICE Collaborations at the large hadron collider (LHC). The related parameters such as the mean transverse momentum contributed by each parton in the first (second) component in the two-component Erlang distribution and the string tension between two partons in the first (second) component in the two-component Schwinger mechanism are extracted.

Disentangling random thermal motion of particles and collective expansion of source from transverse momentum spectra in high energy collisions

In the framework of a multisource thermal model, we describe experimental results of the transverse momentum spectra of final-state light flavour particles produced in gold-gold (Au-Au), copper-copper (Cu-Cu), lead-lead (Pb-Pb), proton-lead ($p$-Pb), and proton-proton ($p$-$p$) collisions at various energies, measured by the PHENIX, STAR, ALICE, and CMS Collaborations, by using the Tsallis-standard (Tsallis form of Fermi-Dirac or Bose-Einstein), Tsallis, and two- or three-component standard distributions which can be in fact regarded as different types of "thermometers" or "thermometric scales" and "speedometers". A central parameter in the three distributions is the effective temperature which contains information on the kinetic freeze-out temperature of the emitting source and reflects the effects of random thermal motion of particles as well as collective expansion of the source. To disentangle both effects, we extract the kinetic freeze-out temperature from the intercept of the effective temperature ($T$) curve as a function of particle's rest mass ($m_0$) when plotting $T$ versus $m_0$, and the mean transverse flow velocity from the slope of the mean transverse momentum ($\langle p_T \rangle$) curve as a function of mean moving mass ($\overline{m}$) when plotting $\langle p_T \rangle$ versus $\overline{m}$.

Event patterns extracted from transverse momentum and rapidity spectra of Z bosons and quarkonium states produced in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at LHC

Transverse momentum ($p_T$) and rapidity ($y$) spectra of $Z$ bosons and quarkonium states (some charmonium $c\bar c$ mesons such as $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$, and some bottomonium $b\bar b$ mesons such as $Υ(1S)$, $Υ(2S)$, and $Υ(3S)$) produced in proton-proton ($pp$) and lead-lead (Pb-Pb) collisions at the large hadron collider (LHC) are uniformly described by a hybrid model of two-component Erlang distribution for $p_T$ spectrum and two-component Gaussian distribution for $y$ spectrum. The former distribution results from a multisource thermal model, and the latter one results from the revised Landau hydrodynamic model. The modelling results are in agreement with the experimental data measured in $pp$ collisions at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}=2.76$ and 7 TeV, and in Pb-Pb collisions at center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV. Based on the parameter values extracted from $p_T$ and $y$ spectra, the event patterns (particle scatter plots) in two-dimensional $p_T$-$y$ space and in three-dimensional velocity space are obtained.

Excitation functions of parameters in Erlang distribution, Schwinger mechanism, and Tsallis statistics in RHIC BES program

Experimental results of the transverse momentum distributions of phi mesons and $Ω$ hyperons produced in gold-gold (Au-Au) collisions with different centrality intervals, measured by the STAR Collaboration at different energies (7.7, 11.5, 19.6, 27, and 39 GeV) in the beam energy scan (BES) program at the relativistic heavy ion collider (RHIC), are approximately described by the single Erlang distribution and the two-component Schwinger mechanism. Meanwhile, the STAR experimental transverse momentum distributions of negatively charged particles, produced in Au-Au collisions at RHIC BES energies, are approximately described by the two-component Erlang distribution and the single Tsallis statistics. The excitation functions of free parameters are obtained from the fit to the experimental data. A weak softest point in the string tension in $Ω$ hyperon spectra is observed at 7.7 GeV.

Kinetic freeze-out temperature and flow velocity extracted from transverse momentum spectra of final-state light flavor particles produced in collisions at RHIC and LHC

The transverse momentum spectra of final-state light flavor particles produced in proton-proton (p-p), copper-copper (Cu-Cu), gold-gold (Au-Au), lead-lead (Pb-Pb), and proton-lead (p-Pb) collisions for different centralities at relativistic heavy ion collider (RHIC) and large hadron collider (LHC) energies are studied in the framework of a multisource thermal model. The experimental data measured by the STAR, CMS, and ALICE Collaborations are consistent with the results calculated by the multi-component Erlang distribution and Tsallis Statistics. The effective temperature and real temperature (kinetic freeze-out temperature) of interacting system at the stage of kinetic freeze-out, the mean transverse flow velocity and mean flow velocity of particles, and the relationships between them are extracted. The dependences of effective temperature and mean (transverse) momentum on rest mass, moving mass, centrality, and center-of-mass energy, and the dependences of kinetic freeze-out temperature and mean (transverse) flow velocity on centrality, center-of-mass energy, and system size are obtained.

Experimental results of the rapidity distributions of negatively charged pions produced in proton-proton ($p$-$p$) and beryllium-beryllium (Be-Be) collisions at different beam momentums, measured by the NA61/SHINE Collaboration at the super proton synchrotron (SPS), are described by a revised (three-source) Landau hydrodynamic model. The squared speed-of-sound parameter $c^2_s$ is then extracted from the width of rapidity distribution. There is a local minimum (knee point) which indicates a softest point in the equation of state (EoS) appearing at about 40$A$ GeV/$c$ (or 8.8 GeV) in $c^2_s$ excitation function [the dependence of $c^2_s$ on incident beam momentum (or center-of-mass energy)]. This knee point should be related to the searching for the onset of quark deconfinement and the critical point of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) phase transition.

A study of transverse momentum distributions of jets produced in p-p, p-\bar p, d-Au, Au-Au, and Pb-Pb collisions at high energies

The transverse momentum distributions of jets produced in p-p, p-\bar p, d-Au, Au-Au, and Pb-Pb collisions at high energies with different selected conditions are analyzed by using a multi-source thermal model. The multi-component (mostly two-component) Erlang distribution used in our description is in good agreement with the experimental data measured by the STAR, D0, CDF II, ALICE, ATLAS, and CMS Collaborations. Related parameters are extracted from the transverse momentum distributions and some information on different interacting systems are obtained. In the two-component Erlang distribution, the first component has usually two or more sources which are contributed by strong scattering interactions between two quarks or more quarks and gluons, while the second component has mostly two sources which are contributed by harder head-on scattering between two quarks.

On Distributions of Emission Sources and Speed of Sound in Proton-proton (Proton-antiproton) Collisions

The revised (three-source) Landau hydrodynamic model is used in this paper to study the (pseudo)rapidity distributions of charged particles produced in proton-proton and proton-antiproton collisions at high energies. The central source is assumed to contribute with a Gaussian function which covers the rapidity distribution region as wide as possible. The target and projectile sources are assumed to emit isotropically particles in their respective rest frames. The model calculations obtained with a Monte Carlo method are fitted to the experimental data over an energy range from 0.2 to 13 TeV. The values of the squared speed-of-sound parameter in different collisions are then extracted from the width of the rapidity distributions.

On Extraction of Chemical Potentials of Quarks from Particle Transverse Momentum Spectra in High Energy Collisions

We present two methods to extract the chemical potentials of quarks in high energy collisions. The first method is based on the ratios of negatively/positively charged particles, and the temperatures extracted from the transverse momentum spectra of related hadrons are needed. The second method is based on the chemical potentials of some particles, and we also need the transverse momentum spectra of related hadrons. To extract the quark chemical potentials, we would like to propose experimental collaborations to measure simultaneously not only the transverse momentum spectra of anti-p, p, K^-, K^+, pion^-, and pion^+, but also those of D^-, D^+, B^-, and B^+ (even those of Delta^++, Delta^-, and Omega^-) in high energy nuclear collisions

On Productions of Net-baryons in Central Au-Au Collisions at RHIC Energies

The transverse momentum and rapidity distributions of net-baryons (baryons minus anti-baryons) produced in central gold-gold (Au-Au) collisions at 62.4 and 200 GeV are analyzed in the framework of a multisource thermal model. Each source in the model is described by the Tsallis statistics to extract the effective temperature and entropy index from the transverse momentum distribution. The two parameters are used as input to describe the rapidity distribution and to extract the rapidity shift and contribution ratio. Then, the four types of parameters are used to structure some scatter plots of the considered particles in some three-dimensional (3D) spaces at the stage of kinetic freeze-out, which are expected to show different characteristics for different particles and processes. The related methodology can be used in the analyzes of particle production and event holography, which are useful for us to better understand the interacting mechanisms.

On pseudorapidity distribution and speed of sound in high energy heavy ion collisions based on a new revised Landau hydrodynamic model

We propose a new revised Landau hydrodynamic model to study systematically the pseudorapidity distributions of charged particles produced in heavy ion collisions over an energy range from a few GeV to a few TeV per nucleon pair. The interacting system is divided into three sources namely the central, target, and projectile sources respectively. The large central source is described by the Landau hydrodynamic model and further revised by the contributions of the small target/projectile sources. In the calculation, to avoid the errors caused by an unapt conversion or non-division, the rapidity and pseudorapidity distributions are obtained respectively. The modeling results are in agreement with the available experimental data at relativistic heavy ion collider (RHIC), large hadron collider (LHC), and other energies for different centralities. The value of square speed of sound parameter in different collisions has been extracted by us from the widths of rapidity distributions. Our results show that, in heavy ion collisions at RHIC and LHC energies, the central source undergoes through a phase transition from hadronic gas to quark-gluon plasma (QGP) liquid phase; meanwhile, the target/projectile sources remain in the state of hadronic gas. The present work confirms that the QGP is of liquid type rather than that of a gas. The whole region of participants undergoes through a mixed phase consisting of a large quantity of (>90%) QGP liquid and a small quantity of (<10%) hadronic gas.

Transverse momentum and pseudorapidity distributions of final-state particles and spatial structure pictures of interacting system in p-Pb collisions at \sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02 TeV

The transverse momentum and pseudorapidity distributions of final-state particles produced in proton-lead (p-Pb) collisions at center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair \sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02 TeV are studied in the framework of a multisource thermal model. Experimental results measured by the ALICE and CMS Collaborations are described by the Tsallis transverse momentum distribution and the two-cylinder pseudorapidity distribution. Based on the parameter values extracted from the transverse momentum and pseudorapidity distributions, some other quantities are extracted. Then, the structure pictures of interacting system at the stage of kinetic freeze-out in some spaces are obtained.

Formulation of transverse mass distributions in Au-Au collisions at 200 GeV/nucleon

The transverse mass spectra of light mesons produced in Au-Au collisions at 200 GeV/nucleon are analyzed in Tsallis statistics. In high energy collisions, it has been found that the spectra follow a generalized scaling law. We applied Tsallis statistics to the description of different particles using the scaling properties. The calculated results are in agreement with experimental data of PHENIX Collaboration. And, the temperature of emission sources is extracted consistently.

Particle production in relativistic $pp$($\overline{p}$) and $AA$ collisions at RHIC and LHC energies with Tsallis statistics using the two-cylindrical multisource thermal model

An improved Tsallis statistics is implemented in a multisource thermal model to describe systematically pseudorapidity spectra of charged particles produced in relativistic nucleon-nucleon ($pp$ or $p\overline{p}$) collisions at various collision energies and in relativistic nucleus-nucleus ($AA$) collisions at different energies with different centralities. The results with Tsallis statistics using the two-cylindrical multisource thermal model are in good agreement with the experimental data measured at RHIC and LHC energies. It is found that the rapidity shifts of longitudinal sources increase linearly with collision energies and centralities in the framework. According to the laws, we also give a prediction of the pseudorapidity distributions in $pp$($\overline{p}$) collisions at higher energies.

Acoustic scaling of anisotropic flow in shape-engineered events: implications for extraction of the specific shear viscosity of the quark gluon plasma

It is shown that the acoustic scaling patterns of anisotropic flow for different event shapes at a fixed collision centrality (shape-engineered events), provide robust constraints for the event-by-event fluctuations in the initial-state density distribution from ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. The empirical scaling parameters also provide a dual-path method for extracting the specific shear viscosity $(η/s)_\mathrm{QGP}$ of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) produced in these collisions. A calibration of these scaling parameters via detailed viscous hydrodynamical model calculations, gives $(η/s)_\mathrm{QGP}$ estimates for the plasma produced in collisions of Au+Au ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}= 0.2$ TeV) and Pb+Pb ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}= 2.76$ TeV). The estimates are insensitive to the initial-state geometry models considered.

Dependence of elliptic flow on transverse momentum in $\sqrt{\mathrm{\it s_{NN}}}=200$ GeV Au-Au and $\sqrt{\mathrm{\it s_{NN}=2.76$ TeV Pb-Pb collisions

We investigate the dependence of elliptic flows $v_2$ on transverse momentum $P_T$ for charged hadrons produced in nucleus-nucleus collisions at high energy by using a multi-source ideal gas model which includes the interaction contribution of the emission sources. Our calculated results are approximately in agreement with the experimental data over a wider $P_T$ range from the STAR and ALICE Collaborations. It is found that the expansion factor increases linearly with the impact parameter from most central (0-5%) to mid-peripheral (35-40%) collisions.

Transport model study of nuclear stopping in heavy ion collisions over an energy range from 0.09A GeV to 160A GeV

Nuclear stopping in the heavy ion collisions over a beam energy range from SIS, AGS up to SPS is studied in the framework of the modified UrQMD transport model, in which mean field potentials of both formed and "pre-formed" hadrons (from string fragmentation) and medium modified nucleon-nucleon elastic cross sections are considered. It is found that the nuclear stopping is influenced by both the stiffness of the equation of state and the medium modifications of nucleon-nucleon cross sections at SIS energies. At the high SPS energies, the two-bump structure is shown in the experimental rapidity distribution of free protons, which can be understood with the consideration of the "pre-formed" hadron potentials.
