Exponential ergodicity for damping Hamiltonian dynamics with state-dependent and non-local collisions

In this paper, we investigate the exponential ergodicity in a Wasserstein-type distance for a damping Hamiltonian dynamics with state-dependent and non-local collisions, which indeed is a special case of piecewise deterministic Markov processes while is very popular in numerous modelling situations including stochastic algorithms. The approach adopted in this work is based on a combination of the refined basic coupling and the refined reflection coupling for non-local operators. In a certain sense, the main result developed in the present paper is a continuation of the counterpart in \cite{BW2022} on exponential ergodicity of stochastic Hamiltonian systems with Lévy noises and a complement of \cite{BA} upon exponential ergodicity for Andersen dynamics with constant jump rate functions.

Bismut Formula for Lions Derivative of Distribution-Path Dependent SDEs

To characterize the regularity of distribution-path dependent SDEs in the initial distribution which varies in the class of probability measures on the path space, we introduce the intrinsic and Lions derivatives for probability measures on Banach spaces, and prove the chain rule of the Lions derivative for the distribution of Banach-valued random variables. By using Malliavin calculus, we establish the Bismut type formula for the Lions derivatives of functional solutions to SDEs with distribution-path dependent drifts. When the noise term is also path dependent so that the Bismut formula is invalid, we establish the asymptotic Bismut formula. Both non-degenerate and degenerate noises are considered. The main results of this paper generalize and improve the corresponding ones derived recently in the literature for the classical SDEs with memory and McKean-Vlasov SDEs without memory.

Coupling approach for exponential ergodicity of stochastic Hamiltonian systems with Lévy noises

We establish exponential ergodicity for the stochastic Hamiltonian system $(X_t, V_t)_{t\ge0}$ on $\mathbb{R}^{2d}$ with Lévy noises \begin{align*} \begin{cases} \mathrm{d} X_t=\big(a X_t+bV_t\big)\,\mathrm{d} t,\\ \mathrm{d} V_t=U(X_t,V_t)\,\mathrm{d} t+\mathrm{d} L_t, \end{cases} \end{align*} where $a\ge 0$, $b> 0$, $U:\mathbb{R}^{2d}\to\mathbb{R}^d$ and $(L_t)_{t\ge0}$ is an $\mathbb{R}^d$-valued pure jump Lévy process. The approach is based on a new refined basic coupling for Lévy processes and a Lyapunov function for stochastic Hamiltonian systems. In particular, we can handle the case that $U(x,v)=-v-\nabla U_0(x)$ with double well potential $U_0$ which is super-linear growth at infinity such as $U_0(x)=c_1(1+|x|^2)^l-c_2|x|^2$ with $l>1$ or $U_0(x) = c_1\mathrm{e}^{(1+|x|^2)^l} - c_2|x|^2$ with $l>0$ for any $c_1,c_2>0$, and also deal with the case that the Lévy measure $ν$ of $(L_t)_{t\ge0}$ is degenerate in the sense that $$ν(\mathrm{d} z)\ge \frac{c}{|z|^{d+θ_0}} \mathbb{I}_{\{0<z_1\le 1\}}\,\mathrm{d} z$$ for some $c>0$ and $θ_0\in (0,2)$, where $z_1$ is the first component of the vector $z\in \mathbb{R}^d$.

Convergence rate of EM algorithm for SDEs under integrability condition

In this paper, by employing Gaussian type estimate of heat kernel, we establish Krylov's estimate and Khasminskill's estimate for EM algorithm. As applications, by taking Zvonkin's transformation into account, we investigate convergence rate of EM algorithm for a class of multidimensional SDEs under integrability conditions, where the drifts need not to be piecewise Lipschitz and are much more singular in some sense.

Coupling methods and exponential ergodicity for two-factor affine processes

In this paper, by invoking the coupling approach, we establish exponential ergodicity under the $L^1 $-Wasserstein distance for two-factor affine processes. The method employed herein is universal in a certain sense so that it is applicable to general two-factor affine processes, which allow that the first component solves a general CIR process, and that there are interactions in the second component, as well as that the Brownian noises are correlated; and even to some models beyond two-factor processes.

Permanence and extinction of regime-switching predator-prey models

In this work we study the permanence and extinction of a regime-switching predator-prey model with Beddington-DeAngelis functional response. The switching process is used to describe the random changing of corresponding parameters such as birth and death rates of a species in different environments. Our criteria can justify whether a prey die out or not when it will die out in some environments and will not in others. Our criteria are rather sharp, and they cover the known on-off type results on permanence of predator-prey models without switching. Our method relies on the recent study of ergodicity of regime-switching diffusion processes.

Convergence of EM Scheme for Neutral Stochastic Differential Delay Equations

In this paper, we are concerned with convergence rate of Euler-Maruyama (EM) scheme for stochastic differential delay equations (SDDEs) of neutral type, where the neutral term, the drift term and the diffusion term are allowed to be of polynomial growth. More precisely, for SDDEs of neutral type driven by Brownian motions, we reveal that the convergence rate of the corresponding EM scheme is one half; Whereas for SDDEs of neutral type driven by jump processes, we show that the best convergence rate of the associated EM scheme is close to one half.

Convergence Rate of Euler-Maruyama Scheme for SDEs with Rough Coefficients

In this paper, we are concerned with convergence rate of Euler-Maruyama scheme for stochastic differential equations with rough coefficients. The key contributions lie in (i), by means of regularity of non-degenerate Kolmogrov equation, we investigate convergence rate of Euler-Maruyama scheme for a class of stochastic differential equations, which allow the drifts to be Dini-continuous and unbounded; (ii) by the aid of regularization properties of degenerate Kolmogrov equation, we discuss convergence rate of Euler-Maruyama scheme for a range of degenerate stochastic differential equations, where the drift is locally Hölder-Dini continuous of order $\frac{2}{3}$ with respect to the first component, and is merely Dini-continuous concerning the second component.

Two-time-scale stochastic partial differential equations driven by $α$-stable noises: Averaging principles

This paper focuses on stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) under two-time-scale formulation. Distinct from the work in the existing literature, the systems are driven by $α$-stable processes with $α\in(1,2)$. In addition, the SPDEs are either modulated by a continuous-time Markov chain with a finite state space or have an addition fast jump component. The inclusion of the Markov chain is for the needs of treating random environment, whereas the addition of the fast jump process enables the consideration of discontinuity in the sample paths of the fast processes. Assuming either a fast changing Markov switching or an additional fast-varying jump process, this work aims to obtain the averaging principles for such systems. There are several distinct difficulties. First, the noise is not square integrable. Second, in our setup, for the underlying SPDE, there is only a unique mild solution and as a result, there is only mild Itô's formula that can be used. Moreover, another new aspect is the addition of the fast regime switching and the addition of the fast varying jump processes in the formulation, which enlarges the applicability of the underlying systems. To overcome these difficulties, a semigroup approach is taken. Under suitable conditions, it is proved that the $p$th moment convergence takes place with $p\in(1,α)$, which is stronger than the usual weak convergence approaches.

Hypercontractivity and Its Applications for Functional SDEs of Neutral Type

In this paper, we discuss hypercontractivity for the Markov semigroup $P_t$ which is generated by segment processes associated with a range of functional SDEs of neutral type. As applications, we also reveal that the semigroup $P_t$ converges exponentially to its unique invariant probability measure $μ$ in entropy, $L^2 (μ)$ and $\|\cdot\|_{\mbox{var}}$, respectively.

preprint2015arXiv

Hypercontractivity for Functional Stochastic Partial Differential Equations

Explicit sufficient conditions on the hypercontractivity are presented for two classes of functional stochastic partial differential equations driven by, respectively, non-degenerate and degenerate Gaussian noises. Consequently, these conditions imply that the associated Markov semigroup is $L^2$-compact and exponentially convergent to the stationary distribution in entropy, variance and total variational norm. As the log-Sobolev inequality is invalid under the framework, we apply a criterion presented in the recent paper \cite{Wang14} using Harnack inequality, coupling property and Gaussian concentration property of the stationary distribution. To verify the concentration property, we prove a Fernique type inequality for infinite-dimensional Gaussian processes which might be interesting by itself.

Almost Sure Asymptotic Stability for Regime-Switching Diffusions

In this paper, we discuss long-time behavior of sample paths for a wide range of regime-switching diffusions. Firstly, almost sure asymptotic stability is concerned (i) for regime-switching diffusions with finite state spaces by the Perron-Frobenius theorem, and, with regard to the case of reversible Markov chain, via the principal eigenvalue approach; (ii) for regime-switching diffusions with countable state spaces by means of a finite partition trick and an M-Matrix theory. We then apply our theory to study the stabilization for linear switching models. Several examples are given to demonstrate our theory.

Approximation of Invariant Measures for Regime-Switching Diffusions

In this paper, we are concerned with long-time behavior of Euler-Maruyama schemes associated with a range of regime-switching diffusion processes. The key contributions of this paper lie in that existence and uniqueness of numerical invariant measures are addressed (i) for regime-switching diffusion processes with finite state spaces by the Perron-Frobenius theorem if the "averaging condition" holds, and, for the case of reversible Markov chain, via the principal eigenvalue approach provided that the principal eigenvalue is positive; (ii) for regime-switching diffusion processes with countable state spaces by means of a finite partition method and an M-Matrix theory. We also reveal that numerical invariant measures converge in the Wasserstein metric to the underlying ones. Several examples are constructed to demonstrate our theory.

Hypercontractivity for Functional Stochastic Differential Equations

An explicit sufficient condition on the hypercontractivity is derived for the Markov semigroup associated to a class of functional stochastic differential equations. Consequently, the semigroup $P_t$ converges exponentially to its unique invariant probability measure $μ$ in entropy, $L^2(μ)$ and the totally variational norm, and it is compact in $L^2(μ)$ for large $t>0$. This provides a natural class of non-symmetric Markov semigroups which are compact for large time but non-compact for small time. A semi-linear model which may not satisfy this sufficient condition is also investigated.

Exponential Mixing for Retarded Stochastic Differential Equations

In this paper, we discuss exponential mixing property for Markovian semigroups generated by segment processes associated with several class of retarded Stochastic Differential Equations (SDEs) which cover SDEs with constant/variable/distributed time-lags. In particular, we investigate the exponential mixing property for (a) non-autonomous retarded SDEs by the Arzelà--Ascoli tightness characterization of the space $\C$ equipped with the uniform topology (b) neutral SDEs with continuous sample paths by a generalized Razumikhin-type argument and a stability-in-distribution approach and (c) jump-diffusion retarded SDEs by the Kurtz criterion of tightness for the space $\D$ endowed with the Skorohod topology.

Numerical Approximation of Stationary Distribution for SPDEs

In this paper, we show that the exponential integrator scheme both in spatial discretization and time discretization for a class of stochastic partial differential equations has a unique stationary distribution whenever the stepsize is sufficiently small, and reveal that the weak limit of the law for the exponential integrator scheme is in fact the counterpart for the stochastic partial differential equation considered.

Stationary Distributions for Retarded Stochastic Differential Equations without Dissipativity

Retarded stochastic differential equations (SDEs) constitute a large collection of systems arising in various real-life applications. Most of the existing results make crucial use of dissipative conditions. Dealing with "pure delay" systems in which both the drift and the diffusion coefficients depend only on the arguments with delays, the existing results become not applicable. This work uses a variation-of-constants formula to overcome the difficulties due to the lack of the information at the current time. This paper establishes existence and uniqueness of stationary distributions for retarded SDEs that need not satisfy dissipative conditions. The retarded SDEs considered in this paper also cover SDEs of neutral type and SDEs driven by Lévy processes that might not admit finite second moments.

By using Girsanov transformation and martingale representation, Talagrand-type transportation cost inequalities, with respect to both the uniform and the $L^2$ distances on the global free path space, are established for the segment process associated to a class of neutral functional stochastic differential equations. Neutral functional stochastic partial differential equations are also investigated.

Comparison Theorem for Stochastic Differential Delay Equations with Jumps

In this paper we establish a comparison theorem for stochastic differential delay equations with jumps. An example is constructed to demonstrate that the comparison theorem need not hold whenever the diffusion term contains a delay function although the jump-diffusion coefficient could contain a delay function. Moreover, another example is established to show that the comparison theorem is not necessary to be true provided that the jump-diffusion term is non-increasing with respect to the delay variable.

(a) We show stochastic differential equation (SDE) with jumps associated with the model has a unique global positive solution; (b) We discuss the uniform boundedness of $p$th moment with $p>0$ and reveal the sample Lyapunov exponents; (c) Using a variation-of-constants formula for a class of SDEs with jumps, we provide explicit solution for 1-dimensional competitive Lotka-Volterra population dynamics with jumps, and investigate the sample Lyapunov exponent for each component and the extinction of our $n$-dimensional model.

In this paper we investigate the convergence rate of Euler-Maruyama scheme for a class of stochastic differential delay equations, where the corresponding coefficients may be highly nonlinear with respect to the delay variables. In particular, we reveal that the convergence rate of Euler-Maruyama scheme is 1/2$ for the Brownian motion case, while show that it is best to use the mean-square convergence for the pure jump case, and that the order of mean-square convergence is close to 1/2.

On the Exponential Stability of Switching-Diffusion Processes with Jumps

In this paper we focus on the pathwise stability of mild solutions for a class of stochastic partial differential equations which are driven by switching-diffusion processes with jumps. In comparison to the existing literature, we show that: (i) the criterion to guarantee pathwise stability does not rely on the moment stability of the system; (ii) the sample Lyapunov exponent obtained is generally smaller than that of the counterpart driven by a Wiener process; (iii) due to the Markovian switching the overall system can become pathwise exponentially stable although some subsystems are not stable.

Khasminskii-Type Theorem and LaSalle-Type Theorem for Stochastic Evolution Delay Equations

In this paper we study the well-known Khasminskii-Type Theorem, i.e. the existence and uniqueness of solutions of stochastic evolution delay equations, under local Lipschitz condition, but without linear growth condition. We then establish one stochastic LaSalle-type theorem for asymptotic stability analysis of strong solutions. Moreover, several examples are established to illustrate the power of our theories.
