How much is the compositeness of a bound state constrained by $a$ and $r_0$? The role of the interaction range

We present an approach that allows one to obtain information on the compositeness of molecular states from combined information of the scattering length of the hadronic components, the effective range, and the binding energy. We consider explicitly the range of the interaction in the formalism and show it to be extremely important to improve on the formula of Weinberg obtained in the limit of very small binding and zero range interaction. The method allows obtaining good information also in cases where the binding is not small. We explicitly apply it to the case of the deuteron and the $D^{*}_{s0}(2317)$ and $D^{*}_{s1}(2460)$ states and determine simultaneously the value of the compositeness within a certain range, as well as get qualitative information on the range of the interaction.

Looking for the exotic $X_0(2866)$ and its $J^P=1^+$ partner in the $\bar{B}^0 \to D^{(*)+} K^- K^{(*)0} $ reactions

We propose two reactions, $\bar{B}^0 \to K^0 D^{+} K^-$ and $\bar{B}^0 \to K^{*0} D^{*+} K^-$, already measured at Belle, to look into the $J^P=0^+$, $X_0(2866)$ state and a $1^+$ partner of molecular $D^*\bar{K}^*$ nature, by looking at the $D^+ K^-$ and $D^{*+} K^-$ invariant mass distributions, respectively. Very clear peaks over the background are predicted and the branching ratios for the production of these states are evaluated to facilitate the task of determining the needed statistics for their observation. The fact that the $K^{*0} K^-$ mass distribution from accumulation of events of different reactions is already available, indicates that one is not far away from having the needed statistics to see peaks in the $D^{(*)+} K^-$ mass distributions, so far not yet analyzed.

Masses and widths of the exotic molecular $B_{(s)}^{(*)} B_{(s)}^{(*)}$ states

We study the interaction of the doubly bottom systems $BB$, $B^* B$, $B_s B$, $B_s^* B$, $B^* B^*$, $B^* B_s$, $B^*B_s^*$, $B_s B_s$, $B_s B_s^*$, $B_s^* B_s^*$ by means of vector meson exchange with Lagrangians from an extension of the local hidden gauge approach. The full s-wave scattering matrix is obtained implementing unitarity in coupled channels by means of the Bethe-Salpeter equation. We find poles below the channel thresholds for the attractively interacting channels $B^* B$ in $I=0$, $B^*_s B-B^*B_s$ in $I=\frac{1}{2}$, $B^* B^*$ in $I=0$, and $B^*_s B^*$ in $I=\frac{1}{2}$, all of them with $J^P=1^+$. For these cases the widths are evaluated identifyng the dominant source of imaginary part. We find binding energies of the order of $10-20$ MeV, and the widths vary much from one system to the other: of the order of 10-100 eV for the $B^* B$ system and $B^*_s B-B^*B_s$, about $6$ MeV for the $B^* B^*$ system and of the order of $0.5$ MeV for the $B^*_s B^*$ system.

Method to observe the $J^{P}=2^{+}$ partner of the $X_{0}(2866)$ in the $B^+ \to D^{+} D^{-} K^{+} $ reaction

We propose a method based on the moments of the $D^{-} K^{+}$ mass distribution in the $B^+ \to D^{+} D^{-} K^{+} $ decay to disentangle the contribution of the $ 2^{+} $ state, partner of $X_{0}(2900)$ in the $ \bar D^{*} K^{*}$ picture for this resonance. Some of these moments show the interference patterns of the $X_{1}(2900)$ and $X_{0}(2900)$ with the $ 2^{+} $ state, which provide a clearer signal of the $ 2^{+} $ resonance than the $ 2^{+} $ signal alone. The construction of these magnitudes from present data is easy to implement, and based on these data we show that clear signals for that resonance should be seen even with the present statistics.

The $\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} \bar{D}^{*0} K^- $ reaction to detect the $I=0, J^P=1^+$ partner of the $X_0(2866)$

We have chosen the $\bar{B}^0 \to D^{*+} \bar{D}^{*0} K^-$ reaction in order to observe the $I=0, J^P=1^+$ ($R_1$) partner state of the $X_0(2866)$ stemming from the $D^*\bar{K}^*$ molecular picture. The reaction proceeds via external emission in the most favored Cabibbo decay mode and one observes the $R_1$ state as a very strong peak versus the background in the $D^{*+} K^-$ spectrum. The branching ratio for $R_1$ production in this reaction is estimated of the order of $4\times 10^{-3}$. The method used, applied to the $B^+ \to D^- D^+ K^+$ reaction, produces a ratio of signal to background in the $D^- K^+$ spectrum in very good agreement with the LHCb experiment that observed the $X_0(2866)$.

Prediction of new $T_{cc}$ states of $D^{*} D^{*}$ and $D^{*}_s D^{*}$ molecular nature

We extend the theoretical framework used of describe the $T_{cc}$ state as a molecular state of $D^* D$ and make predictions for the $D^*D^*$ and $D^*_s D^*$ systems, finding that they lead to bound states only in the $J^P=1^+$ channel. Using input needed to describe the $T_{cc}$ state, basically one parameter to regularize the loops of the Bethe-Salpeter equation, we find bound states with bindings of the order of the MeV and similar widths for $D^*D^*$ system, while the $D^{*}_s D^{*}$ system develops a strong cusp around threshold.

The $D_s^+ \to π^+ K_s^0 K_s^0 $ reaction \\and the $I=1$ partner of the $f_0(1710)$ state

We have identified the decay modes of the $D_s^+ \to π^+ K^+ K^- , π^+ K_s^0 K_s^0$ reactions producing two vector mesons and one pseudoscalar. The posterior vector-vector interaction generates two resonances that we associate to the $f_0(1710)$ and the $a_0(1710)$ recently claimed. We find two acceptable scenarios that give results for the ratio of the branching ratios of these two reactions in agreement with experiment. With these two scenarios we make predictions for the branching ratios of the $D_s^+ \to π^0 K^+ K_s^0$ reaction, finding values within the range of $(2.0 \pm 0.7)\times 10^{-3}$. Comparison of these predictions with coming experimental results on that latter reaction will be very most useful to deepen our understanding on the nature of these two resonances.

$J/ψ\to γππ$, $γπ^0η$ reactions and the $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ resonances

We study the $J/ψ\to γπ^+ π^-$, $γπ^0 η$ reactions from the perspective that they come from the $J/ψ\to ϕ(ω) π^+ π^-, ρ^0π^0 η$ reactions, where the $ρ^0$, $ω$, and $ϕ$ get converted into a photon via vector meson dominance. Using models successfully used previously to study the $J/ψ\to ω(ϕ) ππ$ reactions, we make determinations of the invariant mass distributions for $π^+ π^-$ in the regions of the $f_0(500)$, $f_0(980)$, and for $π^0 η$ in the region of the $a_0(980)$. The integrated differential widths lead to branching ratios below present upper bounds, but they are sufficiently large for future check in updated facilities.

$Ξ_{bb}$ and $Ω_{bbb}$ molecular states

Using the vector-exchange interaction in the local hidden gauge approach, which in the light quark sector generates the chiral Lagrangian, and has produced realistic results for $Ω_c, Ξ_c, Ξ_b$ and the hidden charm pentaquark states, we study the meson-baryon interactions in the coupled channels that lead to the $Ξ_{bb}$ and $Ω_{bbb}$ excited states of the molecular type. We obtain seven states of the $Ξ_{bb}$ type with energies between $10408$ and $10869$ MeV and one $Ω_{bbb}$ state at $15212$ MeV.

Analysis of the $ψ(4040)$ and $ψ(4160)$ decay into $D^{(\ast)} \bar D^{(\ast)}$, $D_s^{(\ast)}\bar D_s^{(\ast)}$

We have performed an analysis of the $e^+ e^- \to D^{(*)} \bar D^{(*)}$ data in the region of the $ψ(4040)$ and $ψ(4160)$ resonances which have a substantial overlap and require special care. By using the $^3 P_0$ model to relate the different $D^{(*)} \bar D^{(*)}$ production modes, we make predictions for production of these channels and compare with experiment and other theoretical approaches. As a side effect we find that these resonances qualify largely as $c \bar c$ states and the weight of the meson-meson components in the wave function is very small.

Observed $Ω_b$ spectrum and meson-baryon molecular states

We observe that four peaks seen in the high energy part of the $Ω_b$ spectrum of the recent LHCb experiment are in remarkable agreement with predictions made for molecular $Ω_b$ states stemming from the meson-baryon interaction, with an approach that applied to the $Ω_c$ states gave rise to three states in good agreement with experiment in masses and widths. While the statistical significance of the peaks prevents us from claims of states at the present time, the agreement found should be an incentive to look at this experiment with increased statistics to give an answer to this suggestive idea.

Scalar resonances in the $D^+\to K^-K^+K^+$ decay

We study theoretically the resonant structure of the double Cabibbo suppressed $D^+\to K^- K^+K^+$ decay. We start from an elementary production diagram, considered subleading in previous approaches, which cannot produce a final $K^- K^+$ pair at the tree level but which we show to be able to provide the strength of the decay through final meson-meson state interaction. The different meson-meson elementary productions are related through SU(3) and the final rescattering is implemented from a suitable implementation of unitary extensions of ChPT which generate dynamically the scalar resonances $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$. We obtain a good agreement with recent experimental data from the LHCb collaboration with a minimal freedom in the fit and show the dominance of the $a_0(980)$ contribution close to the threshold of the $K^- K^+$ spectrum.

Tau decay into $ν_τ$ and $a_1(1260)$, $b_1(1235)$, and two $K_1(1270)$

We study the $τ\to ν_τA$ decay, with $A$ an axial-vector meson. We produce the $a_1(1260)$ and $b_1(1235)$ resonances in the Cabibbo favored mode and two $K_1(1270)$ states in the Cabibbo suppressed mode. We take advantage of previous chiral unitary approach results where these resonances appear dynamically from the vector and pseudoscalar meson interaction in s-wave. Actually two different poles were obtained associated to the $K_1(1270)$ quantum numbers. We find that the unmeasured rates for $b_1(1235)$ production are similar to those of the $a_1(1260)$ and for the two $K_1$ states we suggest to separate the present information on the $\bar K ππ$ invariant masses into $\bar K^* π$ and $ρK$ modes, the channels to which these two resonances couple most strongly, predicting that these modes peak at different energies and have different widths. These measurements should shed light on the existence of these two $K_1$ states.

Testing the origin of the "$f_1(1420)$" with the $\bar K p \to Λ(Σ) K\bar K π$ reaction

We study the $\bar K p \to Y K\bar K π$ reactions with $\bar K = \bar K^0, K^-$ and $Y=Σ^0, Σ^+, Λ$, in the region of $K\bar K π$ invariant masses of $1200-1550$ MeV. The strong coupling of the $f_1(1285)$ resonance to $K^* \bar K$ makes the mechanism based on $K^*$ exchange very efficient to produce this resonance observed in the $K\bar K π$ invariant mass distribution. In addition, in all the reactions one observes an associated peak at $1420$ MeV which comes from the $K^* \bar K$ decay mode of the $f_1(1285)$ when the $K^*$ is placed off shell at higher invariant masses. We claim this to be the reason for the peak of the $K^* \bar K$ distribution seen in the experiments which has been associated to the "$f_1(1420)$" resonance.

$J/ψ$ decay into $ϕ(ω)$ and vector-vector molecular states

Based on the picture that the $ f_0(1370), f_0(1710), f_2(1270), f'_2(1525), \bar{K}^{*0}_2(1430)$ resonances are dynamically generated from the vector-vector interaction, we study the decays $J/ψ\to ϕ(ω) f_0(1370) [f_0(1710)]$, $J/ψ\to ϕ(ω) f_2(1270) [f'_2(1525)]$, and $J/ψ\to K^{*0} \bar{K}^{*0}_2(1430)$ and make predictions for seven independent ratios that can be done among them. The starting mechanism is that the $J/ψ$ decays into three vectors, followed by the final state interaction of a pair of them. The weights of the different three vector primary channels are obtained from the basic assumption that the $J/ψ$ ($c \bar c$) is an SU(3) singlet. By means of only one free parameter we predict four ratios in good agreement with experiment, make two extra predictions for rates yet unmeasured, and disagree on one data for which only upper bounds are reported. Further measurements are most welcome to complete the information required for these ratios that are testing the nature of these resonances as dynamically generated.

Helicity amplitudes in the $\bar{B} \to D^{*} \barν_ττ$ decay with $V-A$ breaking in the quark sector

In view of the recent measurement of the $F_L^{D^*}$ magnitude in the $\bar{B} \to D^{*} \barν_ττ$ reaction we evaluate this magnitude within the standard model and for a family of models with the $γ^μ-αγ^μγ_5$ current structure for the quarks for different values of $α$. At the same time we evaluate also the transverse contributions, $M=-1$, $M=+1$, and find that the difference between the $M=-1$ and $M=+1$ contributions is far more sensitive to changes in $α$ than the longitudinal component.

Prediction of hidden charm strange molecular baryon states with heavy quark spin symmetry

We have studied the meson-baryon $S-$wave interaction, using coupled channels, in the isoscalar hidden-charm strange sector and $J^P = 1/2^-,3/2^-$ and $5/2^-$. We impose constraints of heavy quark spin symmetry in the interaction and obtain the non vanishing matrix elements from an extension of the local hidden gauge approach to the charm sector. The ultraviolet divergences are renormalized using the same meson-baryon-loops regulator previously employed in the non-strange hidden charm sector, where a good reproduction of the properties of the newly discovered pentaquark states is obtained. We obtain five states of $1/2^-$, four of $3/2^-$ and one of $5/2^-$, which could be compared in the near future with forthcoming LHCb experiments. The $5/2^-$, three of the $3/2^-$ and another three of the $1/2^-$ resonances are originated from isoscalar $\bar D^{(*)}Ξ_c^\prime$ and $\bar D^{(*)}Ξ_c^*$ interactions. They should be located just few MeV below the corresponding thresholds (4446, 4513, 4588 and 4655 MeV), and would be SU(3)-siblings of the isospin 1/2 $\bar D^{(*)} Σ_c^{(*)}$ quasi-bound states previously found, and that provided a robust theoretical description of the $P_c(4440)$, $P_c(4457)$ and $P_c(4312)$ LHCb exotic states. The another two $1/2^-$ and $3/2^-$ states obtained in this work are result of the $\bar D^{(*)}Ξ_c-D^{(*)}_sΛ_c$ coupled-channels isoscalar interaction, are significantly broader than the others, with widths of the order of 15 MeV, being $\bar D^{(*)}_sΛ_c$ the dominant decay channel.

$\bar B^0$, $B^-$ and $\bar B^0_s$ decays into $J/ψ$ and $K \bar K$ or $πη$

We study the $\bar B^0_s \to J/ψK^+ K^-$, $\bar B^0 \to J/ψK^+ K^-$, $B^- \to J/ψK^0 K^-$, $\bar B^0 \to J/ψπ^0 η$ and $B^- \to J/ψπ^- η$ decays and compare their mass distributions with those obtained for the $\bar B^0_s \to J/ψπ^+ π^-$ and $\bar B^0 \to J/ψπ^+ π^-$. The approach followed consist in a factorization of the weak part and the hadronization part into a factor which is common to all the processes. Then what makes the reactions different are some trivial Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements and the weight by which the different pairs of mesons appear in a primary step plus their final state interaction. These elements are part of the theory and thus, up to a global normalization factor, all the invariant mass distributions are predicted with no free parameters. Comparison is made with the limited experimental information available. Further comparison of these results with coming LHCb measurements will be very valuable to make progress in our understanding of the meson-meson interaction and the nature of the low lying scalar meson resonances, $f_0(500), f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$.

$D_{s0}^{*}(2317)^+$ in the decay of $B_c$ into $J/ψDK$

In this paper we study the relationship between the $D_{s0}^{*}(2317)^+$ resonance and the decay of the $B_c$ meson into $J/ψDK$. In this process, the $B_c$ meson decays first into $J/ψ$ and the quark pair $c\bar{s}$, and then the quark pair hadronizes into $DK$ or $D_sη$ components, which undergo final state interaction. This final state interaction, generating the $D_{s0}^{*}(2317)^+$ resonance, is described by the chiral unitary approach. With the parameters which allow us to match the pole position of the $D_{s0}^{*}(2317)^+$, we obtain the $DK$ invariant mass distribution of the decay $B_c\to J/ψDK$, and also the rate for $B_c\to J/ψD_{s0}^{*}(2317)$. The ratio of these two magnitude is then predicted.

$f_0(980)$ production in $D_s^+ \rightarrow π^+ \, π^+ \, π^-$ and $D_s^+ \rightarrow π^+ \, K^+ \, K^-$ decays

We study the $D_s^+ \rightarrow π^+ \, π^+ \, π^-$ and $D_s^+ \rightarrow π^+ \, K^+ \, K^-$ decays adopting a mechanism in which the $D_s^+$ meson decays weakly into a $π^+$ and a $q\bar{q}$ component, which hadronizes into two pseudoscalar mesons. The final state interaction between these two pseudoscalar mesons is taken into account by using the Chiral Unitary approach in coupled channels, which gives rise to the $f_0(980)$ resonance. Hence, we obtain the invariant mass distributions of the pairs $π^+ π^-$ and $K^+ K^-$ after the decay of that resonance and compare our theoretical amplitudes with those available from the experimental data. Our results are in a fair agreement with these data, and a $f_0(980)$ signal is seen in both the $π^+π^-$ and $K^+K^-$ distributions.

A hidden-charm $S=-1$ pentaquark from the decay of $Λ_b$ into $J/ψηΛ$

The hidden charm pentaquark state $P_c(4450)$ observed recently by the LHCb collaboration may be of molecular nature, as advocated by some unitary approaches that also predict pentaquark partners in the strangeness $S=-1$ sector. In this work we argue that a hidden-charm strange pentaquark could be seen from the decay of the $Λ_b$, just as in the case of the non-strange $P_c(4450)$, but looking into the $J/ψηΛ$ decay mode and forming the invariant mass spectrum of $J/ψΛ$ pairs. In the model presented here, which assumes a standard weak decay topology and incorporates the hadronization process and final state interaction effects, we find the $J/ψηΛ$ final states to be populated with similar strength as the $J/ψK^- p$ states employed for the observation of the non-strange pentaquark. This makes the $Λ_ b \to J/ψηΛ$ decay to be an interesting process to observe a possible strange partner of the $P_c(4450)$ . We study the dependence of the $J/ψΛ$ mass spectra on various model ingredients and on the unknown properties of the strange pentaquark.

Determination of the compositeness of resonances from decays: the case of the $B^0_s\to J/ψf_1(1285)$

We develop a method to measure the amount of compositeness of a resonance, mostly made as a bound state of two hadrons, by simultaneously measuring the rate of production of the resonance and the mass distribution of the two hadrons close to threshold. By using different methods of analysis we conclude that the method allows one to extract the value of 1-Z with about $0.1$ of uncertainty. The method is applied to the case of the $\bar B^0_s \to J/ψf_1(1285)$ decay, by looking at the resonance production and the mass distribution of $K \bar K^*$.

On the hidden charm pentaquark-s in $Λ_b \to J/ψK^- p$ decay

In a previous work we presented a theoretical analysis of the $Λ_b \to J/ψK^- p$ reaction from where a recent experiment by the LHCb collaboration at CERN claimed the existence of two hidden charm pentaquarks, $P_c(4380)^+$ and $P_c(4450)^+$. In that work we focused only on the $Λ(1405)$ and $P_c(4450)^+$ signals and discussed the possible explanation of this pentaquark state within the picture of a dynamical meson-baryon molecule made up mostly from $\bar D^* Σ_c$ and $\bar D^* Σ^*_c$ components. In the present work we improve upon the previous one by considering the total $K^- p$ and $J/ψp$ data including all the relevant resonances contributing to the spectra, and discuss the possible nature of both $P_c(4380)^+$ and $P_c(4450)^+$. We also discuss several important topics, like the effect of the contact term in the reaction, the viability of reproducing the data without the $P_c(4380)^+$ and the possible quantum numbers assignment to these pentaquarks.

Role of the $f_1(1285)$ state in the $J/ψ\to ϕ\bar{K} K^*$ and $J/ψ\to ϕf_1(1285)$ decays

We study the role of the $f_1(1285)$ resonance in the decays of $J/ψ\to ϕ\bar{K} K^*$ and $J/ψ\to ϕf_1(1285)$. The theoretical approach is based on the results of chiral unitary theory where the $f_1(1285)$ resonance is dynamically generated from the $K^* \bar{K} - c.c.$ interaction. In order to further test the dynamical nature of the $f_1(1285)$ state, we investigate the $J/ψ\to ϕ\bar{K} K^*$ decay close to the $\bar{K} K^*$ threshold and make predictions for the ratio of the invariant mass distributions of the $J/ψ\to ϕ\bar{K} K^*$ decay and the $J/ψ\to ϕf_1(1285)$ partial decay width with all the parameters of the mechanism fixed in previous studies. The results can be tested in future experiments and therefore offer new clues on the nature of the $f_1(1285)$ state.

The "$a_1(1420)$" peak as the $πf_0(980)$ decay mode of the $a_1(1260)$

We study the decay mode of the $a_1(1260)$ into a $π^+$ in p-wave and the $f_0(980)$ that decays into $π^+ π^-$ in s-wave. The mechanisms proceeds via a triangular mechanism where the $a_1(1260)$ decays into $K^* \bar K$, the $K^*$ decays to an external $π^+$ and an internal $K$ that fuses with the $\bar K$ to produce the $f_0(980)$ resonance. The mechanism develops a singularity at a mass of the $a_1(1260)$ around 1420 MeV, producing a peak in the cross section of the $πp$ reaction, used to generate the mesonic final state, which provides a natural explanation of all the features observed in the COMPASS experiment, where a peak observed at this energy is tentatively associated to a new resonance called $a_1(1420)$. On the other hand, the triangular singularity studied here gives rise to a remarkable feature, where a peak is seen for a certain decay channel of a resonance at an energy about 200 MeV higher than its nominal mass.

$\bar B^0$ decay into $D^0$ and $f_0(500)$, $f_0(980)$, $a_0(980)$, $ρ$ and $\bar B^0_s$ decay into $D^0$ and $κ(800)$, $K^{*0}$

We make predictions for ratios of branching fractions of $\bar B^0$ decays into $D^0$ and the scalar mesons $f_0(500)$, $f_0(980)$, $a_0(980)$, plus $\bar B^0_s$ decay into $D^0$ and $κ(800)$. The work is based on results of the chiral unitary approach where the scalar resonances are generated from the pseudoscalar-pseudoscalar interaction. Up to an arbitrary normalization, the mass distributions and rates for decays into the scalar resonances are predicted with no free parameters. Comparison with experimental data is done when available.

$f_1(1285)$ decays into $a_0(980)π^0$, $f_0(980)π^0$ and isospin breaking

We evaluate the decay width for the processes $f_1(1285) \to π^0 a_0(980)$ and $f_1(1285) \to π^0 f_0(980)$ taking into account that all three resonances are dynamically generated from the meson-meson interaction, the $f_1(1285)$ from $K^* \bar K -c.c$ and the $a_0(980)$, $f_0(980)$ from $πη, K \bar K$ and $ππ, K \bar K$ respectively. We use a triangular mechanism similar to that of the $η(1405) \to ππη$, which provides a decay width for $f_1(1285) \to π^0 a_0(980)$ with a branching fraction of the order of 30%, in agreement with experiment. At the same time we evaluate the decay width for the isospin forbidden $f_1(1285) \to π^0 f_0(980)$, which appears when we consider different masses for the charged and neutral kaons, and show that it is much more suppressed than in the $η(1405) \to ππη$ case, but gives rise to a narrow shape of the $π^+ π^-$ distribution similar to the one found in the $η(1405) \to ππη$ decay.

We have studied the strangeness changing antineutrino induced reactions $\barν_{l} p \rightarrow l^+ ϕB $, with $ϕB = K^-p$, $\bar{K}^0n$, $π^0Λ$, $π^0Σ^0$, $ηΛ$, $ηΣ^0$, $π^+Σ^-$, $π^-Σ^+$, $K^+Ξ^-$ and $K^0Ξ^0$, using a chiral unitary approach. These ten coupled channels are allowed to interact strongly, using a kernel derived from the chiral Lagrangians. This interaction generates two $Λ(1405)$ poles, leading to a clear single peak in the $πΣ$ invariant mass distributions. At backward scattering angles in the center of mass frame, $\barν_μ p \rightarrow μ^+ π^0 Σ^0$ is dominated by the $Λ(1405)$ state at around 1420~MeV while the lighter state becomes relevant as the angle decreases, leading to an asymmetric line shape. In addition, there are substantial differences in the shape of $πΣ$ invariant mass distributions for the three charge channels. If observed, these differences would provide valuable information on a claimed isospin I=1, strangeness S=-1 baryonic state around 1400 MeV. Integrated cross sections have been obtained for the $πΣ$ and $\bar K N$ channels, investigating the impact of unitarization in the results. The number of events with $Λ(1405)$ excitation in $\barν_μp$ collisions in the recent antineutrino run at the MINERvA experiment has also been obtained. We find that this reaction channel is relevant enough to be investigated experimentally and to be taken into account in the simulation models of future experiments with antineutrino beams.

Baryon states with hidden charm in the extended local hidden gauge approach

The s-wave interaction of $\bar{D} Λ_c, \bar{D} Σ_c, \bar{D} Λ_c, \bar{D}{}^* Σ_c$ and $\bar{D}Σ^*_c, \bar{D}{}^*Σ^*_c$, is studied within a unitary coupled channels scheme with the extended local hidden gauge approach. In addition to the Weinberg-Tomozawa term, several additional diagrams via the pion-exchange are also taken into account as box potentials. Furthermore, in order to implement the full coupled channels calculation, some of the box potentials which mix the vector-baryon and pseudoscalar-baryon sectors are extended to construct the effective transition potentials. As a result, we have observed six possible states in several angular momenta. Four of them correspond to two pairs of admixture states, two of $\bar{D}Σ_c$ - $\bar{D}{}^*Σ_c$ with $J^P = 1/2^-$, and two of $\bar{D}Σ^*_c$ - $\bar{D}{}^*Σ^*_c$ with $J^P = 3/2^-$. Moreover, we find a $\bar{D}{}^* Σ_c$ resonance which couples to the $\bar{D}Λ_c$ channel and one spin degenerated bound state of $\bar{D}{}^*Σ^*_c$ with $J^P = 1/2^-, 5/2^-$.

Baryon states with open charm in the extended local hidden gauge approach

In this paper we examine the interaction of $D N$ and $D^* N$ states, together with their coupled channels, by using an extension of the local hidden gauge formalism from the light meson sector, which is based on heavy quark spin symmetry. The scheme is based on the use of the impulse approximation at the quark level, with the heavy quarks acting as spectators, which occurs for the dominant terms where there is the exchange of a light meson. The pion exchange and the Weinberg-Tomozawa interactions are generalized and with this dynamics we look for states generated from the interaction, with a unitary coupled channels approach that mixes the pseudoscalar-baryon and vector-baryon states. We find two states with nearly zero width which are associated to the $Λ_c(2595)$ and $Λ_c(2625)$. The lower state, with $J^P = 1/2^-$, couples to $D N$ and $D^* N$, and the second one, with $J^P = 3/2^-$, to $D^* N$. In addition to these two $Λ_c$ states, we find four more states with $I=0$, one of them nearly degenerate in two states of $J=1/2,\ 3/2$. Furthermore we find three states in $I=1$, two of them degenerate in $J=1/2, 3/2$.

Photoproduction of the $f_2(1270)$ resonance

We have performed a calculation of the $γp \to π^+ π^- p$ reaction, where the two pions have been separated in $D$-wave producing the $f_2(1270)$ resonance. We use elements of the local hidden gauge approach that provides the interaction of vector mesons in which the $f_2(1270)$ resonance appears as a $ρ$-$ρ$ molecular state in $L=0$ and spin 2. The vector meson dominance, incorporated in the local hidden gauge approach converts a photon into a $ρ^0$ meson and the other meson connects the photon with the proton. The picture is simple and has no free parameters, since the parameters of the theory have been constrained in the previous study of the vector-vector states. In a second step we introduce new elements, not present in the local hidden gauge approach, adapting the $ρ$ propagator to Regge phenomenology and introducing the $ρNN$ tensor coupling. We find that both the differential cross section as well as the $t$ dependence of the cross section are in good agreement with the experimental results and provide support for the molecular picture of the $f_2(1270)$ in the first baryonic reaction where it has been tested.

Predictions for the $\bar B^0 \to \bar K^{*0} X (YZ)$ and $\bar B^0_s \to ϕX (YZ)$ with $X(4160), Y(3940), Z(3930)$

We investigate the decay of $\bar B^0 \to \bar K^{*0} R$ and $\bar B^0_s \to ϕR$ with $R$ being the $X(4160)$, $Y(3940)$, $Z(3930)$ resonances. Under the assumption that these states are dynamically generated from the vector-vector interaction, as has been concluded from several theoretical studies, we use a reaction mechanism of quark production at the elementary level, followed by hadronization of one final $q \bar q$ pair into two vectors and posterior final state interaction of this pair of vector mesons to produce the resonances. With this procedure we are able to predict five ratios for these decays, which are closely linked to the dynamical nature of these states, and also predict the order of magnitude of the branching ratios which we find of the order of $10^{-4}$, well within the present measurable range. In order to further test the dynamical nature of these resonances we study the $\bar B^0_s \to ϕD^* \bar D^*$ and $\bar B^0_s \to ϕD_s^* \bar D_s^*$ decays close to the $D^* \bar D^*$ and $D_s^* \bar D_s^*$ thresholds and make predictions for the ratio of the mass distributions in these decays and the $\bar B^0_s \to ϕR$ decay widths. The measurement of these decays rates can help unravel the nature of these resonances.

Reanalysis of lattice QCD spectra leading to the $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ and $D_{s1}^*(2460)$

We perform a reanalysis of the energy levels obtained in a recent lattice QCD simulation, from where the existence of bound states of $KD$ and $KD^*$ are induced and identified with the narrow $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ and $D_{s1}^*(2460)$ resonances. The reanalysis is done in terms of an auxiliary potential, employing a single-channel basis $KD^{(*)}$, and a two-channel basis $KD^{(*)}, ηD_s^{(*)}$. By means of an extended Lüscher method we determine poles of the continuum $t$-matrix, bound by about 40 MeV with respect to the $KD$ and $KD^*$ thresholds, which we identify with the $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ and $D_{s1}^*(2460)$ resonances. Using a sum rule that reformulates Weinberg compositeness condition we can determine that the state $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ contains a $KD$ component in an amount of about 70%, while the state $D_{s1}^*(2460)$ contains a similar amount of $KD^*$. We argue that the present lattice simulation results do not still allow us to determine which are the missing channels in the bound state wave functions and we discuss the necessary information that can lead to answer this question.

Semileptonic $Λ_c$ decay to $νl^+$ and $Λ(1405)$

We study the semileptonic decay of $Λ_c$ to $νl^+$ and $Λ(1405)$, where the $Λ(1405)$ is seen in the invariant mass distribution of $πΣ$. We perform the hadronization of the quarks produced in the reaction in order to have a meson baryon pair in the final state and then let these hadron pairs undergo final state interaction from where the $Λ(1405)$ is dynamically generated. The reaction is particularly suited to study this resonance because we show that it filters I=0. It is also free of tree level $πΣ$ production, which leads to a clean signal of the resonance with no background. This same feature has as a consequence that one populates the state of the $Λ(1405)$ with higher mass around 1420 MeV, predicted by the chiral unitary approach. We make absolute predictions for the invariant mass distributions and find them within measurable range in present facilities. The implementation of this reaction would allow us to gain insight into the existence of the predicted two $Λ(1405)$ states and their nature as molecular states.

States of $ρB^* \bar{B}^*$ with $J=3$ within the Fixed Center Approximation to Faddeev equations

In this work we study the $ρB^*\bar{B}^*$ three-body system solving the Faddeev equations in the fixed center approximation. We assume the $B^*\bar{B}^*$ system forming a cluster, and in terms of the two-body $ρB^*$ unitarized scattering amplitudes in the local Hidden Gauge approach we find a new $I(J^{PC})=1(3^{--})$ state. The mass of the new state corresponds to a two particle invariant mass of the $ρB^\ast$ system close to the resonant energy of the $B^\ast_2(5747)$, indicating that the role of this $J=2$ resonance is important in the dynamical generation of the new state.

States of $ρD^* \bar D^*$ with $J=3$ within the Fixed Center Approximation to the Faddeev equations

We study the interaction of the a $ρ$ and $D^*$, $\bar D^*$ with spins aligned using the Fixed Center Approximation to the Faddeev equations. We select a cluster of $D^* \bar D^*$, which is found to be bound in $I=0$ and can be associated to the X(3915), and let the $ρ$ meson orbit around the $D^*$ and $\bar D^*$. In this case we find an $I=1$ state with mass around 4340 MeV and narrow width of about 50 MeV. We also investigate the case with a cluster of $ρD^*$ and let the $\bar D^*$ orbit around the system of the two states. The $ρD^*$ cluster is also found to bind and leads to the $D^*_2(2460)$ state. The addition of the extra $\bar D^*$ produces further binding and we find, with admitted uncertainties, a state of $I=0$ around 4000 MeV, and a less bound narrow state with $I=1$ around 4200 MeV.

Strategies for an accurate determination of the X(3872) energy from QCD lattice simulations

We develop a method to determine accurately the binding energy of the X(3872) from lattice data for the DD* interaction. We show that, because of the small difference between the neutral and charged components of the X(3872), it is necessary to distinguish them in the energy levels of the lattice spectrum if one wishes to have a precise determination of the the binding energy of the X(3872). The analysis of the data requires the use of coupled channels. Depending on the number of levels available and the size of the box we determine the precision needed in the lattice energies to finally obtain a desired accuracy in the binding energy.

Based on previous studies that support the important role of the $f_2(1270)$, $f'_2(1525)$, and $\bar{K}^{*}_{2}(1430)$ resonances in the $J/ψ[ψ(2S)] \to ϕ(ω) VV$ decays, we make an analysis of the analogous decays of $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$, taking into account recent experimental data. In addition, we study the $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ radiative decays and we also made predictions for the radiative decay of $Υ(1S)$ and $Υ(2S)$ into $γf_2(1270)$, $γf'_2(1525)$, $γf_0(1370)$ and $γf_0(1710)$, comparing with the recent results of a CLEO experiment. We can compare our results for ratios of decay rates with eight experimental ratios and find agreement in all but one case, where experimental problems are discussed.

The $K \bar K π$ decay of the $f_1(1285)$ and its nature as a $K^* \bar K -cc$ molecule

We investigate the decay of $f_1(1285) \to πK \bar K$ with the assumption that the $f_1(1285)$ is dynamically generated from the $K^* \bar{K} - cc$ interaction. In addition to the tree level diagrams that proceed via $f_1(1285) \to K^* \bar{K} - cc \to πK \bar K$, we take into account also the final state interactions of $K \bar K \to K \bar K$ and $πK \to πK$. The partial decay width and mass distributions of $f_1(1285) \to πK \bar K$ are evaluated. We get a value for the partial decay width which, within errors, is in fair agreement with the experimental result. The contribution from the tree level diagrams is dominant, but the final state interactions have effects in the mass distributions. The predicted mass distributions are significantly different from phase space and tied to the $K^* \bar{K} - cc$ nature of the $f_1(1285)$ state.

The $Λ_b \to J/ψ~ K ~ Ξ$ decay and the higher order chiral terms of the meson baryon interaction

We study the weak decay of the $Λ_b$ into $ J/ψ~ K ~ Ξ$ and $J/ψ~ η~ Λ$ states, and relate these processes to the $Λ_b \to J/ψ~ \bar K ~N$ decay mode. The elementary weak transition at the quark level proceeds via the creation of a $J/ψ$ meson and an excited $sud$ system with $I=0$, which upon hadronization leads to $\bar K N$ or $ηΛ$ pairs. These states undergo final state interaction in coupled channels and produce a final meson-baryon pair. The $K Ξ$ state only occurs via rescattering, hence making the $Λ_b \to J/ψ~ K ~ Ξ$ process very sensitive to the details of the meson-baryon interaction in strangeness $S=-1$ and isospin $I=0$. We show that the corresponding invariant mass distribution is dominated by the next-to-leading order terms of the chiral interaction. The $I=0$ selectivity of this decay, and its large sensitivity to the higher order terms, makes its measurement very useful and complementary to the $K^- p \to K Ξ$ cross section data. The rates of the $Λ_b \to J/ψ~ K ~ Ξ$ and $Λ_b \to J/ψ~ η~ Λ$ invariant mass distributions are sizable compared to those of the $Λ_b \to J/ψ~ \bar K ~N$ decay, which is measured experimentally, thus, we provide arguments for an experimental determination of these decay modes that will help us understand better the chiral dynamics at higher energies.

The $ρ(ω)B^*(B)$ interaction and states of $J=0,1,2$

In this work, we study systems composed of a $ρ/ω$ and $B^*$ meson pair. We find three bound states in isospin, spin-parity channels $(1/2, 0^+)$, $(1/2, 1^+)$ and $(1/2, 2^+)$. The state with $J=2$ can be a good candidate for the $B_2^*(5747)$. We also study the $ρB$ system, and a bound state with mass $5728$ MeV and width around $20$ MeV is obtained, which can be identified with the $B_1(5721)$ resonance. In the case of $I=3/2$, one obtains repulsion and thus, no exotic (molecular) mesons in this sector are generated in the approach.

The LHCb pentaquark as a $\bar{D}^*Σ_c-\bar{D}^*Σ_c^*$ molecular state

We perform a theoretical analysis of the $Λ_b \to J/ψK^- p$ reaction from where a recent LHCb experiment extracts a $Λ(1405)$ contribution in the $K^- p$ spectrum close to threshold and two baryon states of hidden charm in the $J/ψ\,p$ spectrum. We recall that baryon states of this type have been theoretically predicted matching the mass, width and $J^P$ of the experiment, concretely some states built up from the $J/ψ\, N$, $\bar D^* Λ_c$, $\bar D^* Σ_c$, $\bar D Σ^*_c$ and $\bar D^* Σ^*_c$ coupled channels. We assume that the observed narrow state around 4450 MeV has this nature and we are able to describe simultaneously the shapes and relative strength of the the $K^- p$ mass distribution close to threshold and the peak of the $J/ψ\,p$ distribution, with values of the $J/ψ\, p$ coupling to the resonance in line with the theoretical ones. The non trivial matching of many properties gives support to a $J^P=3/2^-$ assignment to this state and to its nature as a molecular state mostly made of $\bar D^* Σ_c$ and $\bar D^* Σ^*_c$.

$\bar{K}NN$ Absorption within the Framework of the Fixed Center Approximation to Faddeev equations

We present a method to evaluate the $\bar{K}$ absorption width in the bound $\bar{K}NN$ system. Most calculations of this system ignore this channel and only consider the $\bar{K}N \rightarrow πΣ$ conversion. Other works make a qualitative calculation using perturbative methods. Since the $ Λ(1405) $ resonance is playing a role in the process, the same resonance is changed by the presence of the absorption channels and we find that a full nonperturbative calculation is called for, which we present here. We employ the Fixed Center Approximation to Faddeev equations to account for $\bar{K}$ rescattering on the $ (NN) $ cluster and we find that the width of the states found previously for $ S=0 $ and $ S=1 $ increases by about 30 MeV due to the $\bar{K}NN$ absorption, to a total width of about 80 MeV.

$B^0$ and $B^0_s$ decays into $J/ψ$ $f_0(980)$ and $J/ψ$ $f_0(500)$ and the nature of the scalar resonances

We describe the $B^0$ and $B^0_s$ decays into $J/ψ$ $f_0(500)$ and $J/ψ$ $f_0(980)$ by taking into account the dominant process for the weak decay of $B^0$ and $B^0_s$ into $J/ψ$ and a $q \bar q$ component. After hadronization of this $q \bar q$ component into pairs of pseudoscalar mesons we obtain certain weights for the meson-meson components and allow them to interact among themselves. The final state interaction of the meson-meson components, described in terms of chiral unitary theory, gives rise to the $f_0(980)$ and $f_0(500)$ resonances and we can obtain the $π^+ π^- $ invariant mass distributions after the decay of the resonances, which allows us to compare directly to the experiments. We obtain ratios of $J/ψ$ $f_0(980)$ and $J/ψ$ $f_0(500)$ for each of the $B$ decays in quantitative agreement with experiment, with the $f_0(980)$ clearly dominant in the $B^0_s$ decay and the $f_0(500)$ in the $B^0$ decay.

Baryon states with open beauty in the extended local hidden gauge approach

In this paper we examine the interaction of \bar B N, \bar B Δ, \bar B^* N and \bar B^* Δstates, together with their coupled channels, using a mapping from the light meson sector. The assumption that the heavy quarks act as spectators at the quark level automatically leads us to the results of the heavy quark spin symmetry for pion exchange and reproduces the results of the Weinberg Tomozawa term, coming from light vector exchanges in the extended local hidden gauge approach. With this dynamics we look for states dynamically generated from the interaction and find two states with nearly zero width, which we associate to the Λ_b(5912) and Λ_b(5920) states. The states couple mostly to \bar B^* N, which are degenerate with the Weinberg Tomozawa interaction. The difference of masses between these two states, with J=1/2, 3/2 respectively, is due to pion exchange connecting these states to intermediate \bar B N states. In addition to these two Λ_b states, we find three more states with I=0, one of them nearly degenerate in two states of J=1/2,3/2. Furthermore we also find eight more states in $I=1$, two of them degenerate in J=1/2, 3/2, and other two degenerate in J=1/2, 3/2, 5/2.

Meson baryon components in the states of the baryon decuplet

We apply an extension of the Weinberg compositeness condition on partial waves of $L=1$ and resonant states to determine the weight of meson-baryon component in the $Δ(1232)$ resonance and the other members of the $J^P= \frac{3}{2}^+$ baryon decuplet. We obtain an appreciable weight of $πN$ in the $Δ(1232)$ wave function, of the order of 60 \%, which looks more natural when one recalls that experiments on deep inelastic and Drell Yan give a fraction of $πN$ component of 34 \% for the nucleon. We also show that, as we go to higher energies in the members of the decuplet, the weights of meson-baryon component decrease and they already show a dominant part for a genuine, non meson-baryon, component in the wave function. We write a section to interpret the meaning of the Weinberg sum-rule when it is extended to complex energies and another one for the case of an energy dependent potential.

Mixing of pseudoscalar-baryon and vector-baryon in the $J^P=1/2^-$ sector and the $N^*$(1535) and $N^*$(1650) resonances

We study the meson-baryon interaction with $J^P=1/2^-$ using the hidden-gauge Lagrangians and mixing pseudoscalar meson-baryon with the vector meson-baryon states in a coupled channels scheme with $πN$, $ηN$, $KΛ$, $KΣ$, $ρN$ and $πΔ$ (d-wave). We fit the subtraction constants of each channel to the $S_{11}$ partial wave amplitude of the $πN$ scattering data extracted from experimental data. We find two poles that we associate to the $N^*(1535)$ and the $N^*(1650)$ resonances and show that the subtraction constants are all negative and of natural size. We calculate the branching ratios for the different channels of each resonance and we find a good agreement with the experimental data. The cross section for the $π^- p \to ηn$ scattering is also evaluated and compared with experiment.

Prediction of a $Z_c(4000)$ $D^* \bar D^*$ state and relationship to the claimed $Z_c(4025)$

After discussing the OZI suppression of one light meson exchange in the interaction of $D^* \bar D^*$ with isospin I=1, we study the contribution of two pion exchange to the interaction and the exchange of a heavy vector $J/ψ$. We find this latter mechanism weak but enough to barely bind the system in J=2 with a mass around 4000 MeV, while the effect of the two pion exchange is a net attraction but weaker than that from $J/ψ$ exchange. We discuss this state and try to relate it to the $Z_c(4025)$ state, above the $D^* \bar D^*$ threshold, claimed in an experiment at BES from and enhancement of the $D^* \bar D^*$ distribution close to threshold. Together with the results from a recent reanalysis of the BES experiment showing that it is compatible with a J=2 state below threshold around 3990 MeV, we conclude that the BES experiment could be showing the existence of the state that we find in our approach.

Prediction of an $I=1$ $D \bar D^*$ state and relationship to the claimed $Z_c(3900)$, $Z_c(3885)$

We study here the interaction of $D \bar D^*$ in the isospin $I=1$ channel in the light of recent theoretical advances that allow to combine elements of the local hidden gauge approach with heavy quark spin symmetry. We find that the exchange of light $q \bar q$ is OZI suppressed and, thus, we concentrate on the exchange of heavy vectors and of two pion exchange. The latter is found to be small compared to the exchange of heavy vectors, which then determines the strength of the interaction. A barely $D\bar{D}^*$ bound state decaying into $η_cρ$ and $πJ/ψ$ is found. At the same time we reanalyze the data of the BESIII experiment on $e^+ e^- \to π^{\pm} (D \bar D^*)^\mp$, from where a $Z_c(3885)$ state was claimed, associated to a peak in the $(D \bar D^*)^\mp$ invariant mass distribution close to threshold, and we find the data compatible with a resonance with mass around $3875$ MeV and width around $30$ MeV. We discuss the possibility that this and the $Z_c(3900)$ state found at BESIII, reconfirmed at 3896 MeV at Belle, or 3885 MeV at CLEO, could all be the same state and correspond to the one that we find theoretically.

Study of $B\bar{B}^*$ and $B^*\bar{B}^*$ interactions in $I=1$ and relationship to the $Z_b(10610)$, $Z_b(10650)$ states

We use the local hidden gauge approach in order to study the $B\bar{B}^*$ and $B^*\bar{B}^*$ interactions for isospin I=1. We show that both interactions via one light meson exchange are not allowed by OZI rule and, for that reason, we calculate the contributions due to the exchange of two pions, interacting and noninteracting among themselves, and also due to the heavy vector mesons. Then, to compare all these contributions, we use the potential related to the heavy vector exchange as an effective potential corrected by a factor which takes into account the contribution of the others light mesons exchange. In order to look for poles, this effective potential is used as the kernel of the Bethe-Salpeter equation. As a result, for the $B\bar{B}^*$ interaction we find a loosely bound state with mass in the range $10587-10601$ MeV, very close to the experimental value of the $Z_b(10610)$ reported by Belle Collaboration. For the $B^*\bar{B}^*$ case, we find a cusp at $10650$ MeV for all spin $J=0,\,1,\,2$ cases.

The composite nature of the $Λ(1520)$ resonance

Recently, the Weinberg compositeness condition of a bound state was generalized to account for resonant states and higher partial waves. We apply this extension to the case of the $Λ(1520)$ resonance and quantify the weight of the meson-baryon components in contrast to other possible genuine building blocks. This resonance was theoretically obtained from a coupled channels analysis using the s-waves $πΣ^*$, $KΞ^*$ and the d-waves $\bar{K}N$ and $πΣ$ channels applying the techniques of the chiral unitary approach. We obtain that this resonance is essentially dynamically generated from these meson-baryon channels, leaving room for only $15 \%$ weight of other kind of components into its wave function.

The low lying scalar resonances in the $D^0$ decays into $K^0_s$ and $f_0(500)$, $f_0(980)$, $a_0(980)$

The $D^0$ decay into $K^0_s$ and a scalar resonance, $f_0(500)$, $f_0(980)$, $a_0(980)$, is studied obtaining the scalar resonances from final state interaction of a pair of mesons produced in a first step in the $D^0$ decay into $K^0_s$ and the pair of pseudoscalar mesons. This weak decay is very appropriate for this kind of study because it allows to produce the three resonances in the same decay in a process that is Cabibbo allowed, hence the rates obtained are large compared to those of $\bar{B}^0$ decays into $J/ψ$ and a scalar meson that have at least one Cabibbo suppressed vertex. Concretely the $a_0(980)$ production is Cabibbo allowed here, while it cannot be seen in the $\bar{B}^0_s$ decay into $J/ψa_0(980)$ and is doubly Cabibbo suppressed in the $\bar{B}^0$ decay into $J/ψa_0(980)$ and has not been identified there. The fact that the three resonances can be seen in the same reaction, because there is no isospin conservation in the weak decays, offers a unique opportunity to test the ideas of the chiral unitary approach where these resonances are produced from the interaction of pairs of pseudoscalar mesons.

A case in favor of the $N^*(1700)(3/2^-)$

Using an interaction extracted from the local hidden gauge Lagrangians, which brings together vector and pseudoscalar mesons, and the coupled channels $ρN$ (s-wave), $πN$ (d-wave), $πΔ$ (s-wave) and $πΔ$ (d-wave), we look in the region of $\sqrt s =1400-1850$ MeV and we find two resonances dynamically generated by the interaction of these channels, which are naturally associated to the $N^*(1520) (3/2^-)$ and $N^*(1700) (3/2^-)$. The $N^*(1700) (3/2^-)$ appears neatly as a pole in the complex plane. The free parameters of the theory are chosen to fit the $πN$ (d-wave) data. Both the real and imaginary parts of the $πN$ amplitude vanish in our approach in the vicinity of this resonance, similarly to what happens in experimental determinations, what makes this signal very weak in this channel. This feature could explain why this resonance does not show up in some experimental analyses, but the situation is analogous to that of the $f_0(980)$ resonance, the second scalar meson after the $σ(f_0(500))$ in the $ππ$(d-wave) amplitude. The unitary coupled channel approach followed here, in connection with the experimental data, leads automatically to a pole in the 1700 MeV region and makes this second $3/2^-$ resonance unavoidable.

A study of $ηK \bar K$ and $η' K \bar K$ with the fixed center approximation to Faddeev equations

In the present work we investigate the three-body systems of $ηK \bar K$ and $η' K \bar K$, by taking the fixed center approximation to Faddeev equations. We find a clear and stable resonance structure around 1490 MeV in the squared $ηK \bar K$ scattering amplitude, which is not sensitive to the renormalization parameters. Conversely, we get only an enhancement effect of the threshold in the $η' K \bar K$ amplitude that indicates the difficulty to bind the $η' K \bar K$ system as a consequence of a weaker $η' K$ interaction than the $ηK$ one. We associate the $ηK \bar K$ state found to the $η(1475)$.

Combining heavy quark spin and local hidden gauge symmetries in the dynamical generation of hidden charm baryons

We present a coupled channel unitary approach to obtain states dynamically generated from the meson baryon interaction with hidden charm, using constraints of heavy quark spin symmetry. We use as basis of states, $\bar D B$, $\bar D^* B$ states, with $B$ baryon charmed states belonging to the 20 representations of SU(4) with $J^P=1/2^+,~3/2^+$. In addition we also include the $η_c N$ and $J/ψN$ states. The inclusion of these coupled channels is demanded by heavy quark spin symmetry, since in the large $m_Q$ limit the $D$ and $D^*$ states are degenerate and are obtained from each other by means of a spin rotation, under which QCD is invariant. The novelty in the work is that we use dynamics from the extrapolation of the local hidden gauge model to SU(4) and we show that this dynamics fully respects the constraints of heavy quark spin symmetry. With the full space of states demanded by the heavy quark spin symmetry and the dynamics of the local hidden gauge we look for states dynamically generated and find four basic states which are bound, corresponding to $\bar D Σ_c$, $\bar D Σ_c^*$, $\bar D^* Σ_c$ and $\bar D^* Σ_c^*$, decaying mostly into $η_c N$ and $J/ψN$. All the states appear in isospin $I=1/2$ and we find no bound states or resonances in $I=3/2$. The $\bar D Σ_c$ state appears in $J=1/2$, the $\bar D Σ_c^*$ in $J=3/2$, the $\bar D^* Σ_c$ appears nearly degenerate in $J=1/2, ~3/2$ and the $\bar D^* Σ_c^*$ appears nearly degenerate in $J=1/2, ~3/2, ~5/2$, with the peculiarity that in $J=5/2$ the state has zero width in the space of states chosen. All the states are bound with about 50 MeV with respect to the corresponding $\bar D B$ thresholds and the width, except for the $J=5/2$ state, is also of the same order of magnitude.

Exploring the $D^*ρ$ system within QCD sum rules

We present a study of the $D^*ρ$ system made by using the method of QCD sum rules to determine the mass of possible resonances generated in the same system. Using isospin and spin projectors, we investigate the different configurations and obtain evidences for three $D^*$ mesons with isospin $I=1/2$, spin S=0, 1, 2 and with masses $2500\pm 67$ MeV, $2523\pm60$ MeV, and $2439\pm119$ MeV, respectively. The last state can be associated with $D^*_2(2460)$ (spin 2) listed by the Particle Data Group, while one of the first two might be related to $D^*(2640)$, with unknown spin-parity. In the case of $I=3/2$ we also find evidences of three states with spin 0, 1 and 2, respectively, with masses $2467\pm82$ MeV, $2420\pm128$ MeV, and $2550\pm56$ MeV. The results for the sector $I=1/2$ and S=0, 1, 2, are intriguingly similar to a previous study of the $D^*ρ$ system based on effective field theories, supporting in this way a molecular picture for the resonances $D^*(2640)$ and $D^*_2(2460)$, while the results for $I=3/2$ hint towards the existence of exotic mesons since a multiquark configuration is required to get the quantum numbers of the states found.

Hidden beauty baryon states in the local hidden gauge approach with heavy quark spin symmetry

Using a coupled channel unitary approach, combining the heavy quark spin symmetry and the dynamics of the local hidden gauge, we investigate the meson-baryon interaction with hidden beauty and obtain several new states of $N^*$ around 11 GeV. We consider the basis of states $η_b N$, $ΥN$, $B Λ_b$, $B Σ_b$, $B^* Λ_b$, $B^* Σ_b$, $B^* Σ_b^*$ and find four basic bound states which correspond to $B Σ_b$, $B Σ_b^*$, $B^* Σ_b$ and $B^* Σ_b^*$, decaying mostly into $η_b N$ and $ΥN$ and with a binding energy about 50-130 MeV with respect to the thresholds of the corresponding channel. All of them have isospin $I=1/2$, and there are no bound states or resonances in $I=3/2$. The $B Σ_b$ state appears in $J=1/2$, the $B Σ_b^*$ in $J=3/2$, the $B^* Σ_b$ appears nearly degenerate in $J=1/2, ~3/2$ and the $B^* Σ_b^*$ appears nearly degenerate in $J=1/2, ~3/2, ~5/2$. These states have a width from $6 \sim 45 \mev$ except for the one in $J=5/2$ which has zero width since it cannot decay into any of the states of the basis chosen.

Hidden beauty molecules within the local hidden gauge approach and heavy quark spin symmetry

Using a coupled channel unitary approach, combining the heavy quark spin symmetry and the dynamics of the local hidden gauge, we investigate the meson-meson interaction with hidden beauty and obtain several new states. Both I=0 and I=1 states are analyzed and it is shown that in the I=1 sector, the interactions are too weak to create any bound states within our framework. In total, we predict with confidence the existence of 6 bound states, and weakly bound 6 more possible states. The existence of these weakly bound states depend on the influence of the coupled channel effects.

The energy levels in the box are generated within this model, and several methods for the analysis of these levels ("inverse problem") are investigated.

Interpreting the peak structures around 1800 MeV in the BES data on $J/Ψ\to ϕπ^+ π^-$, $J/Ψ\to γωϕ$

In this talk we present an interpretation for the experimental data available on two different processes, namely, $J/Ψ\to ϕπ^+ π^-$, $J/Ψ\to γωϕ$, which seem to indicate existence of two new resonances with the same quantum numbers ($J^{πc}=0^{++}, I = 0$) and very similar mass (~1800 MeV) but with very different decay properties. However, our studies show that the peak structure found in the $ωϕ$ invariant mass, in $J/Ψ\to γωϕ$, is a manifestation of the well known $f_0(1710)$ while the cross section enhancement found in $J/Ψ\to ϕπ^+ π^-$ is indeed a new $f_0$ resonance with mass near 1800 MeV. We present an explanation for the different decay properties of these two scalar resonances.

Lambda(1405) poles obtained from pi0-Sigma0 photoproduction data

We present a strategy to extract the position of the two $Λ(1405)$ poles from experimental photoproduction data measured recently at different energies in the $γp \to K^+ π^0 Σ^0 $ reaction at Jefferson Lab. By means of a chiral dynamics motivated potential but with free parameters, we solve the Bethe Salpeter equation in the coupled channels $\bar K N$ and $πΣ$ in isospin I=0 and parameterize the amplitude for the photonuclear reaction in terms of a linear combination of the $πΣ\to πΣ$ and $\bar K N \to πΣ$ scattering amplitudes in I=0, with a different linear combination for each energy. Good fits to the data are obtained with some sets of parameters, by means of which one can also predict the cross section for the $K^- p \to π^0 Σ^0 $ reaction. These later results help us decide among the possible solutions. The result is that the different solutions lead to two poles similar to those found in the chiral unitary approach. With the best result we find the two $Λ(1405)$ poles at $1385-68i\mev$and $1419-22i\mev$.

On the isospin 0 and 1 resonances from $πΣ$ photoproduction data

Recently we presented a successful strategy to extract the position of the two $Λ(1405)$ poles from experimental photoproduction data on the $γp \to K^+ π^0 Σ^0 $ reaction at Jefferson Lab. Following a similar strategy, we extend the previous method to incorporate also the isospin 1 component which allows us to consider in addition the experimental data on $γp \to K^+ π^\pm Σ^\mp$. The idea is based on considering a production mechanism as model independent as possible and implementing the final state interaction of the final meson-baryon pair based on small modifications of the unitary chiral perturbation theory amplitudes. Good fits to the data are obtained with this procedure, by means of which we can also predict the cross sections for the $K^- p \to \bar K N$, $πΣ$, $πΛ$ reactions for the different charge channels. Besides the two poles found for the $Λ(1405)$ resonance, we discuss the possible existence of an isospin 1 resonance in the vicinity of the $\bar K N$ threshold.

Reanalysis of the $e^+ e^- \to (D^* \bar D^*)^{\pm} π^{\mp}$ reaction and the claim for the $Z_c (4025)$ resonance

In this paper we study the reaction $e^+ e^- \to (D^* \bar D^*)^{\pm} π^{\mp}$ in which the BESIII collaboration has claimed the existence of a $1^+$ resonance, named $Z_c(4025)$, in the $D^*\bar D^*$ invariant mass spectrum with a mass around 4026 MeV and width close to 26 MeV. We determine the $D^*\bar D^*$ invariant mass distribution and find that although the explanation considered by the BESIII collaboration is plausible, there are others which are equally possible, like a $2^+$ resonance or a bound state. Even more, we find that the data can be explained without the existence of a resonance/bound state. In view of the different possible interpretations found for the BESIII data, we try to devise a strategy which could help in identifying the origin of the signal reported by the BESIII collaboration. For this, we study the dependence of the $D^*\bar D^*$ spectrum considering the different options as a function of the total center of mass energy. We arrive to the conclusion that increasing the center of mass energy from 4.26 GeV to 4.6 GeV can be useful to distinguish between a resonance, a bound state or just a pure background as being responsible for the signal found. This information should be useful for future experiments.

Recent Developments on Hadron Interaction and Dynamically Generated Resonances

In this talk I report on the recent developments in the subject of dynamically generated resonances. In particular I discuss the $γp \to K^0 Σ^+$ and $γn \to K^0 Σ^0$ reactions, with a peculiar behavior around the $K^{*0} Λ$ threshold, due to a $1/2^-$ resonance around 2035 MeV. Similarly, I discuss a BES experiment, $J/ψ\to ηK^{*0} \bar K^{*0}$ decay, which provides evidence for a new $h_1$ resonance around 1830 MeV that was predicted from the vector-vector interaction. A short discussion is then made about recent advances in the charm and beauty sectors.

Searching for a hidden charm $h_1$ state in the $X(4660) \to ηh_1$ and $X(4660) \to ηD^* \bar D^*$ decays

We explore the possibility of experimentally detecting a predicted $h_1 ~[I^G(J^{PC})=0^-(1^{+-})]$ state of hidden charm made out from the $D^* \bar D^*$ interaction. The method consists in measuring the decay of X(4660) into $ηD^* \bar D^*$, determining the binding energy with respect to the $D^* \bar D^*$ threshold from the shape of the $D^* \bar D^*$ invariant mass distribution. A complementary method consists in looking at the inclusive $X(4660) \to ηX$ decay, searching for a peak in the $X$ invariant mass distribution given by the missing X(4660), $η$ mass. We make calculations to determine the partial decay width of $X(4660) \to ηh_1$ from the measured $X(4660) \to ηD^* \bar D^*$ distribution. This estimation should serve in an experiment to foresee the possibility of detecting the $h_1$ state on top of the background of inclusive events.

Signature of an $h_1$ state in the $J/ψ\to ηh_1 \to ηK^{*0}\bar{K}^{*0}$ decay

The BES data on the $J/ψ\to ηK^{*0}\bar{K}^{*0}$ reaction show a clear enhancement in the $K^{*0}\bar{K}^{*0}$ mass distribution close to the threshold of this channel. Such an enhancement is usually a signature of a L=0 resonance around threshold, which in this case would correspond to an $h_1$ state with quantum numbers $I^G(J^{PC})=0^-(1^{+-})$. A state around $1800\ \text{MeV}$ results from the interaction of the $K^* \bar{K}^*$ using the local hidden gauge approach. We show that the peak observed in $J/ψ\to ηK^{*0}\bar{K}^{*0}$ naturally comes from the creation of this $h_1$ state with mass and width around $1830\ \text{MeV}$ and $110\ \text{MeV}$, respectively. A second analysis, model independent, corroborates the first result, confirming the relationship of the enhancement in the invariant mass spectrum with the $h_1$ resonance.

Strategies for an accurate determination of the X(3872) energy from QCD lattice simulations

We develop a method to determine accurately the binding energy of the X(3872) from lattice data for the $D \bar D^*$ interaction. We show that, because of the small difference between the neutral and charged components of the X(3872), it is necessary to differentiate them in the energy levels of the lattice spectrum if one wishes to have a precise determination of the the binding energy of the X(3872). The analysis of the data requires the use of coupled channels. Depending on the number of levels available and the size of the box we determine the precision needed in the lattice energies to finally obtain a desired accuracy in the binding energy.

The pion-pion Interaction in the rho Channel in Finite Volume

The aim of this paper is to investigate an efficient strategy that allows to obtain pi-pi phase shifts and rho meson properties from QCD lattice data with high precision. For this purpose we evaluate the levels of the pi-pi system in the rho channel in finite volume using chiral unitary theory. We investigate the dependence on the pi mass and compare with other approaches which use QCD lattice calculations and effective theories. We also illustrate the errors induced by using the conventional Luscher approach instead of a more accurate one recently developed that takes into account exactly the relativistic two meson propagators. Finally we make use of this latter approach to solve the inverse problem, getting pi-pi phase shifts from "synthetic" lattice data, providing an optimal strategy and showing which accuracy is needed in these data to obtain the $ρ$ properties with a desired accuracy.

The role of $f_0(1710)$ in the $ϕω$ threshold peak of $J/Ψ\to γϕω$

We study the process $J/Ψ\to γϕω$, measured by the BES experiment, where a neat peak close to the $ϕω$ threshold is observed and is associated to a scalar meson resonance around 1800 MeV. We make the observation that a scalar resonance coupling to $ϕω$ unavoidably couples strongly to $K \bar K$, but no trace of a peak is seen in the $K \bar K$ spectrum of the $J/Ψ\to γK \bar K$ at this energy. This serves us to rule out the interpretation of the observed peak as a signal of a new resonance. After this is done, a thorough study is performed on the production of a pair of vector mesons and how its interaction leads necessarily to a peak in the $J/Ψ\to γϕω$ reaction close to the $ϕω$ threshold, due to the dynamical generation of the $f_0(1710)$ resonance by the vector-vector interaction. We then show that both the shape obtained for the $ϕω$ mass distribution, as well as the strength are naturally reproduced by this mechanism. The work also explains why the $ϕω$ peak is observed in the BES experiment and not in other reactions, like $B^\pm\to K^\pm ϕω$ of Belle.

The role of vector-baryon channels and resonances in the $γp \to K^0 Σ^+$ and $γn \to K^0 Σ^0$ reactions near the $K^* Λ$ threshold

We have studied the $γp \to K^0 Σ^+$ reaction in the energy region around the $K^* Λ$ and $K^* Σ$ thresholds, where the CBELSA/TAPS cross section shows a sudden drop and the differential cross section experiences a transition from a forward-peaked distribution to a flat one. Our coupled channel model incorporates the dynamics of the vector meson-baryon interaction which is obtained from the hidden gauge formalism. We find that the cross section in this energy region results from a delicate interference between amplitudes having $K^* Λ$ and $K^*Σ$ intermediate states. The sharp downfall is dictated by the presence of a nearby $N^*$ resonance produced by our model, a feature that we have employed to predict its properties. We also show results for the complementary $γn \to K^0 Σ^0$ reaction, the measurement of which would test the mechanism proposed in this work.

The width of the omega meson in the nuclear medium

We evaluate the width of the $ω$ meson in nuclear matter. We consider the free decay mode of the $ω$ into three pions, which is dominated by $ρπ$ decay, and replace the $ρ$ and $π$ propagators by their medium modified ones. We also take into account the quasielastic and inelastic processes induced by a vector-baryon interaction dominated by vector meson exchange, as well as the contributions coming from the $ω\to K \bar K$ mechanism with medium modified $K$, $\bar K$ propagators. We obtain a substantial increase of the $ω$ width in the medium, reaching a value of $129 \pm 10$ MeV at normal nuclear matter density for an $ω$ at rest, which comes mainly from $ωN \to ππN, ωN N \to πNN$ processes associated to the dominant $ω\to ρπ$ decay mode. The value of the width increases moderately with momentum, reaching values of around 200 MeV at 600 MeV/c.

Three-body hadron systems with strangeness

Recently, many efforts are being put in studying three-hadron systems made of mesons and baryons and interesting results are being found. In this talk, I summarize the main features of the formalism used to study such three hadron systems with strangeness $S=-1,0$ within a framework built on the basis of unitary chiral theories and solution of the Faddeev equations. In particular, I present the results obtained for the $π\bar{K}N$, $K\bar{K}N$ and $KK\bar{K}$ systems and their respective coupled channels. In the first case, we find four $Σ$'s and two $Λ$'s with spin-parity $J^P=1/2^+$, in the 1500-1800 MeV region, as two meson-one baryon s-wave resonances. In the second case, a $1/2^+$ $N^*$ around 1900 MeV is found. For the last one a kaon close to 1420 MeV is formed, which can be identified with K(1460).

$J/ψ$ reaction mechanisms and suppression in the nuclear medium

Recent studies of the interaction of vector mesons with nuclei make possible and opportune the study of the interaction of the $J/ψ$ with nuclei and the investigation of the origin of the $J/ψ$ suppression in its propagation thorough a nuclear medium. We observe that the transition of $J/ψN$ to $VN$ with $V$ being a light vector, $ρ, ω,ϕ$, together with the inelastic channels, $J/ψN \to \bar D Λ_c$ and $J/ψN \to \bar D Σ_c$ leads to a particular shape of the inelastic cross section. Analogously, we consider the mechanisms where the exchanged $D$ collides with a nucleon and gives $πΛ_c$ or $πΣ_c$. The cross section has a peak around $\sqrt s=4415$ MeV, where the $J/ψN$ couples to a resonance predicted recently. We study the transparency ratio for electron induced $J/ψ$ production in nuclei at about 10 GeV and find that 30 - 35% of the $J/ψ$ produced in heavy nuclei are absorbed inside the nucleus. This ratio is in line with depletions of $J/ψ$ though matter observed in other reactions.

A narrow $DNN$ quasi-bound state

The energies and widths of $DNN$ quasi-bound states with isospin I=1/2 are evaluated in two methods, the fixed center approximation to the Faddeev equation and the variational method approach to the effective one-channel Hamiltonian. The $DN$ interactions are constructed so that they dynamically generate the $Λ_c(2595)$ (I=0, $J^π =1/2^-$) resonance state. We find that the system is bound by about 250 MeV from the $DNN$ threshold, $\sqrt{s} \sim 3500$ MeV. A new perspective on the Faddeev equations and the $\bar{K}NN$ system from chiral dynamics and unitarity in coupled channels

We review recent work concerning the $\bar{K}N$ interaction and Faddeev equations with chiral dynamics which allow us to look at the $\bar{K}NN$ from a different perspective and pay attention to problems that have been posed in previous studies on the subject. We show results which provide extra experimental evidence on the existence of two $Λ(1405)$ states. We then show the findings of a recent approach to Faddeev equations using chiral unitary dynamics, where an explicit cancellation of the two body off shell amplitude with three body forces stemming from the same chiral Lagrangians takes place. This removal of the unphysical off shell part of the amplitudes is most welcome and renders the approach unambiguous, showing that only on shell two body amplitudes need to be used. With this information in mind we use an approximation to the Faddeev equations within the fixed center approximation to study the $\bar{K}NN$ system, providing answers within this approximation to questions that have been brought before and evaluating binding energies and widths of this three body system. As a novelty with respect to recent work on the topic we find a bound state of the system with spin S=1, like a bound state of $\bar{K}$-deuteron, less bound that the one of S=0, where all recent efforts have been devoted. The width is relatively large in this case, suggesting problems in a possible experimental observation.

A prediction of $D^*$-multi-$ρ$ states

We present a study of the many-body interaction between a $D^*$ and multi-$ρ$. We use an extrapolation to SU(4) of the hidden gauge formalism, which produced dynamically the resonances $f_2(1270)$ in the $ρρ$ interaction and $D^*_2(2460)$ in the $ρD^*$ interaction. Then let a third particle, $ρ$, $D^*$, or a resonance collide with them, evaluating the scattering amplitudes in terms of the Fixed Center Approximation of the Faddeev equations. Finite volume treatment of pi pi scattering and limits to phase shifts extraction from lattice QCD

We study theoretically the effects of finite volume for pipi scattering in order to extract physical observables for infinite volume from lattice QCD. We compare three different approaches for pipi scattering (lowest order Bethe-Salpeter approach, N/D and inverse amplitude methods) with the aim to study the effects of the finite size of the box in the potential of the different theories, specially the left-hand cut contribution through loops in the crossed t,u-channels. We quantify the error made by neglecting these effects in usual extractions of physical observables from lattice QCD spectra. We conclude that for pipi phase-shifts in the scalar-isoscalar channel up to 800 MeV this effect is negligible for box sizes bigger than 2.5m_pi^-1 and of the order of 5% at around 1.5-2m_pi^-1. For isospin 2 the finite size effects can reach up to 10% for that energy. We also quantify the error made when using the standard Luscher method to extract physical observables from lattice QCD, which is widely used in the literature but is an approximation of the one used in the present work.

Interaction of vector mesons with baryons and nuclei

After some short introductory remarks on particular issues on the vector mesons in nuclei, in this paper we present a short review of recent developments concerning the interaction of vector mesons with baryons and with nuclei from a modern perspective using the local hidden gauge formalism for the interaction of vector mesons. We present results for the vector baryon interaction and in particular for the resonances which appear as composite states, dynamically generated from the interaction of vector mesons with baryons, taking also the mixing of these states with pseudoscalars and baryons into account. We then venture into the charm sector, reporting on hidden charm baryon states around 4400 MeV, generated from the interaction of vector mesons and baryons with charm, which have a strong repercussion on the properties of the $J/ΨN$ interaction. We also address the interaction of $K^*$ with nuclei and make suggestions to measure the predicted huge width in the medium by means of the transparency ratio. The formalism is extended to study the phenomenon of $J/ψ$ suppression in nuclei via $J/ψ$ photoproduction reactions.

Interaction of vector mesons with baryons and vectors in the nuclear medium

In this talk we present a short review of recent developments concerning the interaction of vector mesons with baryons and with nuclei. We begin with the hidden gauge formalism for the interaction of vector mesons, then review results for vector baryon interaction and in particular the resonances which appear as composite states, dynamically generated from the interaction of vector mesons with baryons. New developments concerning the mixing of these states with pseudoscalars and baryons are also reported. We include some discussion on the $5/2^+$ $Δ$ resonances around 2000 MeV, where we suggest that the $Δ(2000)5/2^+$ resonance, which comes in the PDG from averaging a set of resonances appearing around 1700 MeV and another one around 2200 MeV, corresponds indeed to two distinct resonances. We also report on a hidden charm baryon state around 4400 MeV coming from the interaction of vector mesons and baryons with charm, and how this state has some repercussion in the $J/ψ$ suppression in nuclei. The interaction of $K^*$ in nuclei is also reported and suggestions are made to measure by means of the transparency ratio the huge width in the medium that the theoretical calculations predict. The formalism is extended to $J/ψ$ interaction with nuclei and the transparency ratio for $J/ψ$ photoproduction in nuclei is studied and shown to be a good tool to find possible baryon states which couple to $J/ψN$.

Isospin breaking and $f_0(980)$-$a_0(980)$ mixing in the $η(1405) \to π^{0} f_0(980)$ reaction

We make a theoretical study of the $η(1405) \to π^{0} f_0(980)$ and $η(1405) \to π^{0} a_0(980)$ reactions with an aim to determine the isospin violation and the mixing of the $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ resonances. We make use of the chiral unitary approach where these two resonances appear as composite states of two mesons, dynamically generated by the meson-meson interaction provided by chiral Lagrangians. We obtain a very narrow shape for the $f_0(980)$ production in agreement with a BES experiment. As to the amount of isospin violation, or $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ mixing, assuming constant vertices for the primary $η(1405)\rightarrow π^{0}K\bar{K}$ and $η(1405)\rightarrow π^{0}π^{0}η$ production, we find results which are much smaller than found in the recent experimental BES paper, but consistent with results found in two other related BES experiments. We have tried to understand this anomaly by assuming an I=1 mixture in the $η(1405)$ wave function, but this leads to a much bigger width of the $f_0(980)$ mass distribution than observed experimentally. The problem is solved by using the primary production driven by $η' \to K^* \bar K$ followed by $K^* \to K π$, which induces an extra singularity in the loop functions needed to produce the $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ resonances. Improving upon earlier work along the same lines, and using the chiral unitary approach, we can now predict absolute values for the ratio $Γ(π^0, π^+ π^-)/Γ(π^0, π^0 η)$ which are in fair agreement with experiment. We also show that the same results hold if we had the $η(1475)$ resonance or a mixture of these two states, as seems to be the case in the BES experiment.

Narrow bound states of the DNN system

We report on a recent calculation of the properties of the $DNN$ system, a charmed meson with two nucleons. The system is analogous to the $\bar K NN$ system substituting a strange quark by a charm quark. Two different methods are used to evaluate the binding and width, the Fixed Center approximation to the Faddeev equations and a variational calculation. In both methods we find that the system is bound by about 200 MeV and the width is smaller than 40 MeV, a situation opposite to the one of the $\bar K NN$ system and which makes this state well suited for experimental observation.

On ambiguities of sign determination of the S-matrix from energy levels in a finite box

In a recent paper the authors make a study on the determination of the S-matrix elements for scattering of particles in the infinite volume from the energy levels in the finite box for the case of multiple channels. The study is done with a toy model in 1+1 dimension and the authors find that there is some ambiguity in the sign of nondiagonal matrix elements, casting doubts on whether the needed observables in the infinite volume can be obtained from the energy levels of the box. In this paper I present an easy derivation, confirming the ambiguity of the sign and argue that this, however, does not put restrictions in the determination of observables.

Scalar mesons moving in a finite volume and the role of partial wave mixing

Phase shifts and resonance parameters can be obtained from finite-volume lattice spectra for interacting pairs of particles, moving with nonzero total momentum. We present a simple derivation of the method that is subsequently applied to obtain the pi pi and pi K phase shifts in the sectors with total isospin I=0 and I=1/2, respectively. Considering different total momenta, one obtains extra data points for a given volume that allow for a very efficient extraction of the resonance parameters in the infinite-volume limit. Corrections due to the mixing of partial waves are provided. We expect that our results will help to optimize the strategies in lattice simulations, which aim at an accurate determination of the scattering and resonance properties.

Scattering of unstable particles in a finite volume: the case of pi rho scattering and the a1(1260) resonance

We present a way to evaluate the scattering of unstable particles quantized in a finite volume with the aim of extracting physical observables for infinite volume from lattice data. We illustrate the method with the $πρ$ scattering which generates dynamically the axial-vector $a_1(1260)$ resonance. Energy levels in a finite box are evaluated both considering the $ρ$ as a stable and unstable resonance and we find significant differences between both cases. We discuss how to solve the problem to get the physical scattering amplitudes in the infinite volume, and hence phase shifts, from possible lattice results on energy levels quantized inside a finite box.

Strategy to find the two $Λ(1405)$ states from lattice QCD simulations

Theoretical studies within the chiral unitary approach, and recent experiments, have provided evidence of the existence of two isoscalar states in the region of the $Λ(1405)$. In this paper we use the same chiral approach to generate energy levels in a finite box. In a second step, assuming that these energies correspond to lattice QCD results, we devise the best strategy of analysis to obtain the two states in the infinite volume case, with sufficient precision to distinguish them. We find out that using energy levels obtained with asymmetric boxes and/or with a moving frame, with reasonable errors in the energies, one has a successful scheme to get the two $Λ(1405)$ poles.

The $DN$, $πΣ_c$ interaction in finite volume and the $Λ_c(2595)$ resonance

In this work the interaction of the coupled channels $DN$ and $πΣ_c$ in an SU(4) extrapolation of the chiral unitary theory, where the $Λ_c(2595)$ resonance appears as dynamically generated from that interaction, is extended to produce results in finite volume. Energy levels in the finite box are evaluated and, assuming that they would correspond to lattice results, the inverse problem of determining the phase shifts in the infinite volume from the lattice results is solved. We observe that it is possible to obtain accurate $πΣ_c$ phase shifts and the position of the $Λ_c(2595)$ resonance, but it requires the explicit consideration of the two coupled channels. We also observe that some of the energy levels in the box are attached to the closed $DN$ channel, such that their use to induce the $πΣ_c$ phase shifts via Lüscher's formula leads to incorrect results.

The $KD$, $ηD_s$ interaction in finite volume and the nature of the $D_{s^* 0}(2317)$ resonance

An SU(4) extrapolation of the chiral unitary theory in coupled channels done to study the scalar mesons in the charm sector is extended to produce results in finite volume. The theory in the infinite volume produces dynamically the $D_{s^*0}(2317)$ resonance by means of the coupled channels $KD$, $ηD_s$. Energy levels in the finite box are evaluated and, assuming that they would correspond to lattice results, the inverse problem of determining the bound states and phase shifts in the infinite volume from the lattice data is addressed. We observe that it is possible to obtain accurate $KD$ phase shifts and the position of the $D_{s^*0}(2317)$ state, but it requires the explicit consideration of the two coupled channels in the analysis if one goes close to the $ηD_s$ threshold. We also show that the finite volume spectra look rather different in case the $D_{s^*0}(2317)$ is a composite state of the two mesons, or if it corresponds to a non molecular state with a small overlap with the two meson system. We then show that a careful analysis of the finite volume data can shed some light on the nature of the $D_{s^*0}(2317)$ resonance as a $KD$ molecule or otherwise.

The $X(3872) \to J/ψγ$ decay in the $D \bar D^*$ molecular picture

From a picture of the X(3872) where the resonance is a bound state of $\bar{D}D^*-c.c.$, we evaluate the decay width into the $J/ψγ$ channel, which is sensitive to the internal structure of this state. For this purpose we evaluate the loops through which the X(3872) decays into its components, and the $J/ψ$ and the photon are radiated from these components. We use the local hidden gauge approach extrapolated to SU(4) with a particular SU(4) breaking. The radiative decay involves anomalous couplings and we obtain acceptable values which are compared to experiments and results of other calculations. Simultaneusly, we evaluate the decay rate for the X(3872) into $J/ψω$ and $J/ψρ$, and the results obtained for the ratio of these decay widths are compatible with the experiment. We also show the grossly unacceptable results that come from taking only the $\bar{D}^0D^{*0}+c.c.$ component.

Three methods to detect the predicted $D \bar{D}$ scalar meson X(3700)

In analogy to the f_0(500), which appears as a $ππ$ resonance in chiral unitary theory, and the f_0(980), which appears as a quasibound $K \bar K$ state, the extension of this approach to the charm sector also predicts a quasibound $D \bar D $ state with mass around 3720 MeV, named as X(3700), for which some experimental support is seen in the $e^+ e^- \to J/ψD \bar D $ reaction close to the $D \bar D $ threshold. In the present work we propose three different experiments to observe it as a clear peak. The first one is the radiative decay of the $ψ(3770)$, $ψ(3770) \to γX(3700) \to γηη'$. The second one proposes the analogous reaction $ψ(4040) \to γX(3700) \to γηη'$ and the third reaction is the $e^+ e^- \to J/ψX(3700) \to J/ψηη'$. Neat peaks are predicted for all the reactions and the calculated rates are found within measurable range in present facilities.

Transparency ratio in γA -> η' A' and the in-medium η' width

The photoproduction of η'-mesons off different nuclei has been measured with the CBELSA/TAPS detector system for incident photon energies between 1500 - 2200 MeV. The transparency ratio has been deduced and compared to theoretical calculations describing the propagation of η'-mesons in nuclei. The comparison indicates a width of the η' -meson of the order of Γ= 15-25 MeV at ρ=ρ_0 for an average momentum p_{η'} = 1050 MeV/c, at which the η'-meson is produced in the nuclear rest frame. The inelastic η' N cross section is estimated to be 3 - 10 mb. Parameterizing the photoproduction cross section of η'-mesons by σ(A) = σ_0 A^α, a value of α= 0.84\pm0.03 has been deduced.

Wave functions of composite hadron states and relationship to couplings of scattering amplitudes for general partial waves

In this paper we present the connection between scattering amplitudes in momentum space and wave functions in coordinate space, generalizing previous work done for s-waves to any partial wave. The relationship to the wave function of the residues of the scattering amplitudes at the pole of bound states or resonances is investigated in detail. A sum rule obtained for the couplings provides a generalization to coupled channels, any partial wave and bound or resonance states, of Weinberg's compositeness condition, which was only valid for weakly bound states in one channel and s-wave. An example, requiring only experimental data, is shown for the $ρ$ meson indicating that it is not a composite particle of $ππ$ but something else.

$NDK$, $\bar{K} DN$ and $ND\bar{D}$ molecules

We investigate theoretically baryon systems made of three hadrons which contain one nucleon and one D meson, and in addition another meson, $\bar{D}, K$ or $\bar{K}$. The systems are studied using the Fixed Center Approximation to the Faddeev equations. The study is made assuming scattering of a $K$ or a $\bar{K}$ on a $DN$ cluster, which is known to generate the $Λ_c(2595)$, or the scattering of a nucleon on the $D\bar{D}$ cluster, which has been shown to generate a hidden charm resonance named X(3700). We also investigate the configuration of scattering of $N$ on the $KD$ cluster, which is known to generate the $D_{s0}^*(2317)$. In all cases we find bound states, with the $NDK$ system, of exotic nature, more bound than the $\bar{K} DN$.

A new perspective on the $Δ_{5/2^{+}}(2000)$ puzzle

We argue that $Δ_{5/2^{+}}(2000)(\ast\ast),$ cataloged as a resonance in the Particle Data Book Review (PDG), should be interpreted instead as two distinctive resonances, $Δ_{5/2^{+}}(\sim1740)$ and $Δ_{5/2^{+}}(\sim2200)$. Our argument is based on a solution of the $πΔρ$ problem in a Fixed Center Approximation (FCA) to the Fadeev equations. $Δ_{5/2^{+}}(\sim1740)$ can then be interpreted as a $π-(Δρ)_{N(1675)}$ bound state. As a corollary $Δ_{1/2^{+}}(1750)(\ast)$ can be understood as a $πN_{1/2^{-}}(1650)$ bound state.

Chiral unitary approach to η' N scattering at low energies

We study the η' N interaction within a chiral unitary approach which includes πN, ηN and related pseudoscalar meson-baryon coupled channels. Since the SU(3) singlet does not contribute to the standard interaction and the η' is mostly a singlet, the resulting scattering amplitude is very small and inconsistent with experimental estimations of the η' N scattering length. The additional consideration of vector meson-baryon states into the coupled channel scheme, via normal and anomalous couplings of pseudoscalar to vector mesons, enhances substantially the η' N amplitude. We also exploit the freedom of adding to the Lagrangian a new term, allowed by the symmetries of QCD, which couples baryons to the singlet meson of SU(3). Adjusting the unknown strength to the η' N scattering length, we obtain predictions for the elastic η' N --> η' N and inelastic η' N --> ηN, πN, KΛ, KΣ cross sections at low η' energies, and discuss their significance.

Chiral unitary theory of scalar mesons in a finite volume

We develop a scheme for the extraction of the properties of the scalar mesons $f_0(600)$, $f_0(980)$, and $a_0(980)$ from lattice QCD data. This scheme is based on a two-channel chiral unitary approach with fully relativistic propagators in a finite volume. In order to discuss the feasibility of finding the mass and width of the scalar resonances, we analyze synthetic lattice data with a fixed error assigned, and show that the framework can be indeed used for an accurate determination of resonance pole positions in the multi-channel scattering.

Couplings in coupled channels versus wave functions in the case of resonances: application to the two $Λ(1405)$ states

In this paper we develop a formalism to evaluate wave functions in momentum and coordinate space for the resonant states dynamically generated in a unitary coupled channel approach. The on shell approach for the scattering matrix, commonly used, is also obtained in Quantum Mechanics with a separable potential, which allows one to write wave functions in a trivial way. We develop useful relationships among the couplings of the dynamically generated resonances to the different channels and the wave functions at the origin. The formalism provides an intuitive picture of the resonances in the coupled channel approach, as bound states of one bound channel, which decays into open ones. It also provides an insight and practical rules for evaluating couplings of the resonances to external sources and how to deal with final state interaction in production processes. As an application of the formalism we evaluate the wave functions of the two $Λ(1405)$ states in the $πΣ$, $\bar{K} N$ and other coupled channels.

The interactions of $\bar{D}Σ_{c}$-$\bar DΛ_c$, $\bar{D}^{*}Σ_{c}$-$\bar D^*Λ_c$, and related strangeness channels, are studied within the framework of the coupled channel unitary approach with the local hidden gauge formalism. A series of meson-baryon dynamically generated relatively narrow $N^*$ and $Λ^*$ resonances are predicted around 4.3 GeV in the hidden charm sector. Dynamically generated hadron resonances

As an example of dynamically generated resonances we mention the interaction of vector mesons with baryons within the local hidden gauge formalism which gives rise to a large amount of such states, many of which can be associated to known resonances, while others represent predictions for new resonances. The width of these states coming from decay into pseudoscalar baryon is also addressed. We also mention recent states coming from $Δρπ$ interaction obtained with Faddeev equations.

eta-prime nucleus optical potential and possible eta-prime bound states

Starting from a recent model of the eta'N interaction, we evaluate the eta'-nucleus optical potential, including the contribution of lowest order in density, t rho/2m_eta', together with the second order terms accounting for eta' absorption by two nucleons. We also calculate the formation cross section of the eta' bound states from (pi+,p) reactions on nuclei. The eta'-nucleus potential suffers from uncertainties tied to the poorly known eta'N interaction, which can be partially constrained by the experimental modulus of the eta'N scattering length and/or the recently measured transparency ratios in eta' nuclear photoproduction. Assuming an attractive interaction and taking the claimed experimental value |a_eta'N| = 0.1 fm, we obtain a eta' optical potential in nuclear matter at saturation density of V_eta' = -(8.7 + 1.8i) MeV, not attractive enough to produce eta' bound states in light nuclei. Larger values of the scattering length give rise to deeper optical potentials, with moderate enough imaginary parts. For a value |a_eta'| = 0.3 fm, which can still be considered to lie within the uncertainties of the experimental constraints, the spectra of light and medium nuclei show clear structures associated to eta'-nuclear bound states and to threshold enhancements in the unbound region.

Faddeev fixed-center approximation to the $N\bar{K}K$ system and the signature of a $N^*(1920)(1/2^+)$ state

We perform a calculation for the three body $N \bar{K} K$ scattering amplitude by using the fixed center approximation to the Faddeev equations, taking the interaction between $N$ and $\bar{K}$, $N$ and $K$, and $\bar{K}$ and $K$ from the chiral unitary approach. The resonant structures show up in the modulus squared of the three body scattering amplitude and suggest that a $N\bar{K}K$ hadron state can be formed. Our results are in agreement with others obtained in previous theoretical works, which claim a new $N^*$ resonance around 1920 MeV with spin-parity $J^P=1/2^+$. The existence of these previous works allows us to test the accuracy of the fixed center approximation in the present problem and sets the grounds for possible application in similar problems, as an explorative tool to determine bound or quasibound three hadron systems.

It is also important to set the limits of the approach in those problems to prevent proliferation of inaccurate predictions. In this paper we study the case of the $ϕ(2170)$, which has been described by means of Faddeev equations as a resonant state of $ϕ$ and $K \bar{K}$, and show the problems derived from the use of the FCA in its study. Plausible explanation of the $Δ_{5/2^{+}}(2000)$ puzzle

From a Faddeev calculation for the $π-(Δρ)_{N_{5/2^{-}}(1675)}$ system we show the plausible existence of three dynamically generated $I(J^{P})=3/2 (5/2^{+})$ baryon states below 2.3 GeV whereas only two resonances, $Δ_{5/2^{+}}(1905)(\ast\ast\ast\ast)$ and $Δ_{5/2^{+}}(2000)(\ast\ast),$ are cataloged in the Particle Data Book Review. Our results give theoretical support to data analyses extracting two distinctive resonances, $Δ_{5/2^{+}}(\sim1740)$ and $Δ_{5/2^{+}}(\sim2200),$ from which the mass of $Δ_{5/2^{+}}(2000)(\ast\ast)$ is estimated. We propose that these two resonances should be cataloged instead of $Δ_{5/2^{+}}(2000).$ This proposal gets further support from the possible assignment of the other baryon states found in the approach in the $I=1/2,3/2$ with $J^{P}=1/2^{+},3/2^{+},5/2^+$ sectors to known baryonic resonances. In particular, $Δ_{1/2^{+}}(1750)(\ast)$ is naturally interpreted as a $πN_{1/2^{-}}(1650)$ bound state.

rho-rho-N and rho-rho-Delta molecules with $J^P=5/2^{+}$ and $J^P=7/2^{+}$

The rho-rho-N and rho-rho-Delta three-body systems have been studied within the framework of the fixed center approximation of Faddeev equation. The rho-rho interaction in isospin I=0, spin S=2 is strongly attractive, and so are the N-rho, Delta-rho interactions. This leads to bound states of both rho-rho-N and rho-rho-Delta. We find peaks of the modulus squared of the scattering matrix around 2227 MeV for rho-rho-N, and 2372 MeV for rho-rho-Delta. Yet, the strength of the peak for the rho-rho-N amplitude is much smaller than for rho-rho-Delta, weakening the case for a rho-rho-N bound state, or a dominant rho-rho-N component. A discussion is made on how these states can be searched for in present programs looking for multimeson final states in different reactions.

The $\bar{K}NN$ system with chiral dynamics

We have performed a calculation of the scattering amplitude for the three body system $\bar{K}NN$ assuming $\bar{K}$ scattering against a $NN$ cluster, using the Fixed Center approximation to the Faddeev equations. The $\bar{K}N$ amplitudes, which we take from chiral unitary dynamics, govern the reaction and we find a $\bar{K}NN$ amplitude that peaks around 40 MeV below the $\bar{K}NN$ threshold, with a width in $|T|^2$ of the order of 50 MeV for spin 0 and has another peak around 27 MeV with similar width for spin 1. The results are in line with those obtained using different methods but implementing chiral dynamics. The simplicity of the approach allows one to see the important ingredients responsible for the results. In particular we show the effects from the reduction of the size of the $NN$ cluster due to the interaction with the $\bar{K}$ and those from the explicit considiration of the $ πΣN $ channel in the three body equations.

The K d -> Lambda(1405) n reaction with the DAFNE set up and the $\bar{K}NN$ system revisited

The $K^{-}$ induced production of $Λ(1405)$ in the $K^{-} d \to πΣn$ reaction is investigated having in mind the conditions of the DAFNE facility at Frascati. We find that the fastest kaons from the decay of the $ϕ$ at DAFNE are well suited to see this resonance if one selects forward going neutrons in the center of mass, which reduce the contribution of single scattering and stress the contribution of the double scattering where the signal of the resonance appears clearer. We take advantage to report briefly on a recent work in which in addition to the $\bar{K}NN$ system with total spin S=0, we find a less bound state (although with equally large width) with S=1, like in the $K^{-} d$ reported in the first part.

The pp->p Lambda K+ and pp->p Sigma0 K+ reactions with chiral dynamics

We report on a theoretical study of the pp->p Lambda K+ and pp->p Sigma0 K+ reactions near threshold using a chiral dynamical approach. The production process is described by single-pion and single-kaon exchange. The final state interactions of nucleon-hyperon, K-hyperon and K-nucleon systems are also taken into account. We show that our model leads to a fair description of the experimental data on the total cross section of the pp->p Lambda K+ and pp->p Sigma0 K+ reactions. We find that the experimental observed strong suppression of Sigma0 production compared to Lambda production at the same excess energy can be explained. However, ignorance of phases between some amplitudes does not allow to properly account for the nucleon-hyperon final state interaction for the pp->p Sigma0 K+ reaction. We evaluate the radiative decay into a vector a pseudoscalar and a photon of several resonances dynamically generated from the vector vector interaction. The process proceeds via the decay of one of the vector components into a pseudoscalar and a photon, which have an invariant mass distribution very different from phase space as a consequence of the two vector structure of the resonances. Experimental work along these lines should provide useful information on the nature of these resonances.

A description of the f2(1270), rho3(1690), f4(2050), rho5(2350) and f6(2510) resonances as multi-rho(770) states

In a previous work regarding the interaction of two $ρ(770)$ resonances, the $f_2(1270)$ ($J^{PC}=2^{++}$) resonance was obtained dynamically as a two-$ρ$ molecule with a very strong binding energy, 135~MeV per $ρ$ particle. In the present work we use the $ρρ$ interaction in spin 2 and isospin 0 channel to show that the resonances $ρ_3(1690)$ ($3^{--}$), $f_4(2050)$ ($4^{++}$), $ρ_5(2350)$ ($5^{--}$) and $f_6(2510)$ ($6^{++}$) are basically molecules of increasing number of $ρ(770)$ particles. We use the fixed center approximation of the Faddeev equations to write the multi-body interaction in terms of the two-body scattering amplitudes. We find the masses of the states very close to the experimental values and we get an increasing value of the binding energy per $ρ$ as the number of $ρ$ mesons is increased.

A new interpretation for the $D^*_{s2}(2573)$ and the prediction of novel exotic charmed mesons

In this manuscript we study the vector - vector interaction within the hidden gauge formalism in a coupled channel unitary approach. In the sector $C=1,S=1,J=2$ we get a pole in the T-matrix around $2572$ MeV that we identify with the $D^*_{s2}(2573)$, coupling strongly to the $D^*K^*$($D^*_sϕ$($ω$)) channels. In addition we obtain resonances in other exotic sectors which have not been studied before such as $C=1,S=-1$, $C=2,S=0$ and $C=2,S=1$. This 'flavor-exotic' states are interpreted as $D^*\bar{K^*}$, $D^*D^*$ and $D^*_sD^*$ molecular states but have not been observed yet. In total we obtain nine states with different spin, isospin, charm and strangeness of non $C=0,S=0$ and $C=1,S=0$ character, which have been reported before.

A novel interpretation of the "$Θ^{+}(1540)$ pentaquark" peak

We use a theoretical model of the $γ~d \to ~K^+ K^- ~n ~p $ reaction adapted to the experiment done at LEPS where a peak was observed and associated to the $Θ^{+}(1540)$ pentaquark. The study shows that the method used in the experiment to associate momenta to the undetected proton and neutron, together with the chosen cuts, necessarily creates an artificial broad peak in the assumed $K^+ n$ invariant mass in the region of the claimed $Θ^{+}(1540)$, such that the remaining strength seen for the experimental peak is compatible with a fluctuation of 2$σ$ significance.

An alternative explanation for the $Θ(1540)$ pentaquark peak

We have studied the $γd \to K^+ K^- n p$ reaction in which the LEPS collaboration found a signal in the $K^+ n$ invariant mass for the claimed $Θ(1540)$ pentaquark peak. Our study reveal that the procedure used at LEPS to reconstruct the $K^+n$ invariant mass generates an artificial strength in the $Θ(1540)$ region and that the LEPS collaboration underestimated the background in that region, such that the signal observed for the $Θ(1540)$ is compatible with a fluctuation of $2σ$ over the calculated background.

Couplings in coupled channels versus wave functions: application to the X(3872) resonance

We perform an analytical study of the scattering matrix and bound states in problems with many physical coupled channels. We establish the relationship of the couplings of the states to the different channels, obtained from the residues of the scattering matrix at the poles, with the wave functions for the different channels. The couplings basically reflect the value of the wave functions around the origin in coordinate space. In the concrete case of the X(3872) resonance, understood as a bound state of $\ddn$ and $\ddc$ (and $c.c.$), with the $\ddn$ loosely bound, we find that the couplings to the two channels are essentially equal leading to a state of good isospin I=0 character. This is in spite of having a probability for finding the $\ddn$ state much larger than for $\ddc$ since the loosely bound channel extends further in space. The analytical results, obtained with exact solutions of the Schrödinger equation for the wave functions, can be useful in general to interpret results found numerically in the study of problems with unitary coupled channels methods.

Critical view of the claimed $Θ^+$ pentaquark

We use a theoretical model of the $γ~d \to ~K^+ K^- ~n ~p $ reaction adapted to the experiment done at LEPS where a peak was observed and associated to the $Θ^{+}(1540)$ pentaquark. The study shows that the method used in the experiment to associate momenta to the undetected proton and neutron, together with the chosen cuts, necessarily creates an artificial broad peak in the assumed $K^+ n$ invariant mass in the region of the claimed $Θ^{+}(1540)$. It is shown that the LEPS fit to the data, used to make the claim of the $Θ^{+}(1540)$, grossly distorts the background. An alternative fit, assuming a background plus a fluctuation, returns a background practically equal to the theoretical one and a fluctuation identical to the one seen in the experimental $K^- p$ spectrum of 2$σ$ significance.

Evaluation of the polarization observables I^S and I^C in the reaction gamma p --> pi^0 eta p

We evaluate the polarization observables I^S and I^C for the reaction gamma p --> pi^0 eta p, using a chiral unitary framework developed earlier. The I^S and I^C observables have been recently measured for the first time by the CBELSA/TAPS collaboration. The theoretical predictions of I^S and I^C, given for altogether 18 angle dependent functions, are in good agreement with the measurements. Also, the asymmetry dSigma/dcos(theta) evaluated here agrees with the data. We show the importance of the Delta(1700)D33 resonance and its S-wave decay into eta Delta(1232). The result can be considered as a further confirmation of the dynamical nature of this resonance. At the highest energies, deviations of the predictions from the data start to become noticeable, which leaves room for additional processes and resonances such as a Delta(1940)D33. We also point out how to further improve the calculation.

Experimental status of deeply bound kaonic states in nuclei

We review recent claims of the existence of deeply bound kaonic states in nuclei. Also we study in details the (K-,p) reaction on C12 with 1 GeV/c momentum kaon beam, based on which a deep kaon nucleus optical potential was claimed in [1]. In our Monte Carlo simulation of this reaction we include not only the quasi-elastic K- p scattering, as in [1], but also K- absorption by one and two nucleons followed by the decay of the hyperon in pi N, which can also produce strength in the region of interest. The final state interactions in terms of multiple scattering of the K-, p and all other primary particles on their way out of the nucleus is also considered. We will show that all these additional mechanisms allow us to explain the observed spectrum with a "standard" shallow kaon nucleus optical potential obtained in chiral models. [1] T. Helicity Amplitudes of the Lambda(1670) and two Lambda(1405) as dynamically generated resonances

We determine the helicity amplitudes A_1/2 and radiative decay widths in the transition Lambda(1670) to gamma Y (Y=Lambda or Sigma^0). The Lambda(1670) is treated as a dynamically generated resonance in meson-baryon chiral dynamics. We obtain the radiative decay widths of the Lambda(1670) to gamma Lambda as 3 \pm 2 keV and to gamma Sigma^0 as 120 \pm 50 keV. Also, the Q^2 dependence of the helicity amplitudes A_1/2 is calculated. We find that the K Xi component in the Lambda(1670) structure, mainly responsible for the dynamical generation of this resonance, is also responsible for the significant suppression of the decay ratio Gamma_{gamma Lambda}/Gamma_{gamma Sigma^0}. A measurement of the ratio would, thus, provide direct access to the nature of the Lambda(1670). To compare the result for the Lambda(1670), we calculate the helicity amplitudes A_1/2 for the two states of the Lambda(1405). Also, the analytic continuation of Feynman parameterized integrals of more complicated loop amplitudes to the complex plane is developed which allows for an internally consistent evaluation of A_1/2.

Within our framework the X(3872) is a dynamically generated resonance in coupled channels. We also study the relationship between the couplings of the resonance to the coupled channels with its wave function, which further helps us to understand the isospin structure of the resonance.

Kaon induced Lambda(1405) production on a deuteron target at DAFNE

The K^- induced production of Lambda(1405) in the K^- d to pi Sigma n reaction is investigated having in mind the conditions of the DAFNE facility at Frascati where kaons are obtained from the decay of slow moving phi mesons. We find that the K^- d to Lambda(1405) n process favors the production of Lambda(1405) initiated by the K^- p channel, which gives largest weight to the higher mass Lambda(1405) appearing at 1420 MeV in chiral theories. We find that the fastest kaons from the decay of the phi are well suited to see this resonance, particularly if one selects forward going neutrons in the center of mass, which reduce the contribution of single scattering and make the double scattering dominate where the signal of the resonance appears clearer.

On the background in the $γp \to ω(π^0γ) p$ reaction and mixed event simulation

In this paper we evaluate sources of background for the $γp \to ωp$, with the $ω$ detected through its $π^0 γ$ decay channel, to compare with the experiment carried out at ELSA. We find background from $γp \to π^0 π^0 p$ followed by decay of a $π^0$ into two $γ$, recombining one $π^0$ and one $γ$, and from the $γp \to π^0 ηp$ reaction with subsequent decay of the $η$ into two photons. This background accounts for the data at $π^0 γ$ invariant masses beyond 700 MeV, but strength is missing at lower invariant masses which was attributed to photon misidentification events, which we simulate to get a good reproduction of the experimental background. Once this is done, we perform an event mixing simulation to reproduce the calculated background and we find that the method provides a good description of the background at low $π^0 γ$ invariant masses but fakes the background at high invariant masses, making background events at low invariant masses, which are due to $γ$ misidentification events, responsible for the background at high invariant masses which is due to the $γp \to π^0 π^0 p$ and $γp \to π^0 ηp$ reactions.

On the nature of the K*2(1430), K*3(1780), K*4(2045), K*5(2380) and K*6 as K*--multi-rho states

We show that the $K^*_2(1430)$, $K^*_3(1780)$, $K^*_4(2045)$, $K^*_5(2380)$ and a not yet discovered $K_6^*$ resonance are basically molecules made of an increasing number of $ρ(770)$ and one $K^*(892)$ mesons. The idea relies on the fact that the vector-vector interaction in s-wave with spins aligned is very strong both for $ρρ$ and $K^*ρ$. We extend a recent work, where several resonances showed up as multi-$ρ(770)$ molecules, to the strange sector including the $K^*(892)$ into the system. The resonant structures show up in the multi-body scattering amplitudes, which are evaluated in terms of the unitary two-body vector-vector scattering amplitudes by using the fixed center approximation to the Faddeev equations.

Proton emission off nuclei induced by kaons in flight

We study the (K-,p) reaction on nuclei with a 1 GeV/c momentum kaon beam, paying a special attention at the region of emitted protons having kinetic energy above 600 MeV, which was used to claim a deeply attractive kaon nucleus optical potential. Our model describes the nuclear reaction in the framework of a local density approach and the calculations are performed following two different procedures: one is based on a many-body method using the Lindhard function and the other one is based on a Monte Carlo simulation. While both procedures coincide when it comes to consider the contribution of kaon quasi-elastic scattering, the simulation method offers more flexibility since it allows us to account for other processes which also contribute to the proton spectra, such as K- absorption by one and two nucleons producing hyperons. The simulation also considers final state interactions in terms of multiple scattering of the K-, p and all other primary and secondary particles on their way out of the nucleus, as well as the weak decay of the produced hyperons into (pi N). We find that this kaon in-flight reaction is not well suited to determine the kaon optical potential due, essentially, to the limited sensitivity of the cross section to its strength, but also to unavoidable uncertainties in the contribution from other processes. We also simulate the experimental requirement of having, together with the energetic proton, at least one charged particle detected in the decay counter surrounding the target, and find that the shape of the original cross section is appreciably distorted. We conclude that the new mechanisms, not considered in the analysis of the original experiment, allow us to explain the observed spectrum with the shallow kaon nucleus optical potential obtained in chiral models.

Radiative decay into gamma-baryon of dynamically generated resonances from the vector-baryon interaction

We study the radiative decay into $γ$ and a baryon of the SU(3) octet and decuplet of nine and ten resonances that are dynamically generated from the interaction of vector mesons with baryons of the octet and the decuplet respectively. We obtain quite different partial decay widths for the various resonances, and for different charge states of the same resonance, suggesting that the experimental investigation of these radiative decays should bring much information on the nature of these resonances. For the case of baryons of the octet we determine the helicity amplitudes and compare them with experimental data when available.

We apply a unitary approach together with a set of hidden-gauge Lagrangians to study the vector-vector interaction. We study the case of the $ρ$($ω$)$D^*$ interaction within the model. In $I=1/2$ we get strong enough attraction to bind the system. Concretely, we get one resonance for each spin $J=0,1,2$. For J=1 and 2 these resonances can be easily identified with the $D^*(2460)$ and $D^*(2640)$. Whereas the state for J=0 with mass $M\sim2600$ MeV is a prediction of the model. Strange meson production at high density and temperature

The properties of strange mesons ($K$, $\bar K$ and $\bar K^*$) in dense matter are studied using a unitary approach in coupled channels for meson-baryon scattering. The kaon-nucleon interaction incorporates $s$- and $p$-wave contributions within a chiral model whereas the interaction of $\bar K^*$ with nucleons is obtained in the framework of the local hidden gauge formalism. The in-medium solution for the scattering amplitude accounts for Pauli blocking effects, mean-field binding on baryons, and meson self-energies. We obtain the $K$, $\bar K$ and $\bar K^*$ (off-shell) spectral functions in the nuclear medium and study their behaviour at finite density, temperature and momentum. We also analyze the energy weighted sum rules of the kaon propagator as a quality test of model calculations. We finally estimate the transparency ratio of the $γA \to K^+ K^{*-} A^\prime$ reaction, which we propose as a feasible scenario at present facilities to detect in-medium modifications of the $\bar K^*$ meson.

In this paper we present an approach to study the radiative decay modes of the $J/ψ$ into a photon and one of the tensor mesons $f_2(1270)$, $f'_2(1525)$, as well as the scalar ones $f_0(1370)$ and $f_0(1710)$. Especially we compare predictions that emerge from a scheme where the states appear dynamically in the solution of vector meson--vector meson scattering amplitudes to those from a (admittedly naive) quark model. We present an approach to study the decay modes of the $J/ψ$ into a vector meson and a tensor meson, taking into account the nature of the $f_2(1270)$, $f'_2(1525)$, $\bar{K}^{* 0}_2(1430)$ resonances as dynamically generated states from the vector meson-vector meson interaction. We evaluate four ratios of partial decay widths in terms of a flavor dependent OZI breaking parameter and the results obtained compare favorably with experiment. We present a calculation of the $γd \to K^+ K^- n p $ reaction with the aim of seeing if the experimental peak observed in the $K^+ n$ invariant mass around 1526 MeV, from where evidence for the existence of the $Θ^+$ has been claimed, can be obtained without this resonance as a consequence of the particular dynamics of the process and the cuts applied in the experimental set up. We find that a combination of facts leads indeed to a peak around 1530 MeV for the invariant mass of $K^+ n$ without the need to invoke any new resonance around this energy. This, together with statistical fluctuations that we prove to be large with the statistics of the experiment, is likely to produce the narrower peak observed there.

The $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1710)$, $f_2(1270)$, $f_2'(1525)$, and $K_2^*(1430)$ as dynamically generated states from vector meson - vector meson interaction

We report on some recent developments in understanding the nature of the low-lying mesonic resonances $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1710)$, $f_2(1270)$, $f_2'(1525)$, and $K_2^*(1430)$. In particular we show that these five resonances can be dynamically generated from vector meson--vector meson interaction in a coupled-channel unitary approach, which utilizes the phenomenologically very successful hidden-gauge Lagrangians to produce the interaction kernel between two vector mesons, which is then unitarized by the Bethe-Salpeter-equation method. The data on the strong decay branching ratios, total decay widths, and radiative decay widths of these five states, and on related $J/ψ$ decay processes can all be well described by such an approach. We also make predictions, compare them with the results of earlier studies, and highlight observables that if measured can be used to distinguish different pictures of these resonances.

The nature of Lambda(1405) hyperon resonance in chiral dynamics

The nature of the Lambda(1405) is discussed based on the unitarised coupled-channels approach with chiral dynamics (chiral unitary model). This approach describes the Kbar N scattering cross sections and the Lambda(1405) spectra phenomenologically very well. With this successful description of Lambda(1405), it is found that the Lambda(1405) is composed by two resonance states having different coupling nature to the meson-baryon states. As a consequence, the resonance position in the pi Sigma invariant mass spectrum depends on the initial channel of the Lambda(1405) production. To observe the Lambda(1405) initiated by the Kbar N channel, K^- d to Lambda(1405) n is one of the most favorable reactions. Hadronic molecule states with kaons are also discussed by emphasizing an important role of Lambda(1405) as a quasibound state of Kbar N.

The Y(4260) as a $J/ψK \bar{K}$ system

A study of the $J/ψππ$ and $J/ψK \bar{K}$ systems, treating them as coupled channels, has been made by solving the Faddeev equations, with the purpose of investigating the possibility of generation of the $J^{PC} = 1^{--}$, Y(4260) resonance due to the interaction between these three mesons. In order to do this, we start by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation for the two pseudoscalar and for the vector-pseudocalar meson systems using the amplitudes obtained from the lowest order chiral Lagrangians as potentials. With the $t$-matrices generated from these potentials, which contain the poles of the $σ$, $f_{0}(980)$ and $a_{0}(980)$ resonances for the pseudoscalar-pseudoscalar system and the pole of the X(3872), alongwith other new charmed resonant states, for the vector-pseudoscalar system, we solve the Faddeev equations. As a result, we get a peak around 4150 MeV with a width $\sim$ 90 MeV when the invariant mass of the two pseudoscalars is close to that of the $f_0 (980)$.

On the other hand we also report on a new, hidden strangeness $N^*$ state, mostly made of $K \bar{K} N$, with mass around 1920 MeV, which we think could be responsible for the peak seen in the $γp \to K^+ Λ$ around this energy. Finally we address a very novel topic in which we show how few body systems of several $ρ$ mesons can be produced, with their spins aligned up to J=6, and how these states found theoretically can be associated to several known mesons with spins J=2,3,4,5,6.

Two and three nucleon K- absorption in nuclei

We analyze the peaks in the (Lambda p) and (Lambda d) invariant mass distributions, observed in recent FINUDA experiments and claimed to be signals of deeply bound kaonic states, and find them to be naturally explained in terms of K- absorption by two or three nucleons leaving the rest of the original nuclei as spectator. For reactions on heavy nuclei, the subsequent interactions of the particles produced in the primary absorption process with the residual nucleus play an important role. Thus at present there is no experimental evidence of deeply bound K- states in nuclei. However some new physics can be extracted from the data of FINUDA experiments.

Two-photon and one photon-one vector meson decay widths of the $f_0(1370)$, $f_2(1270)$, $f_0(1710)$, $f'_2(1525)$, and $K^*_2(1430)$

We calculate the radiative decay widths, two-photon ($γγ$) and one photon-one vector meson ($Vγ$), of the dynamically generated resonances from vector meson-vector meson interaction in a unitary approach based on the hidden-gauge Lagrangians. In the present paper we consider the following dynamically generated resonances: $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1710)$, $f_2(1270)$, $f_2'(1525)$, $K^*_2(1430)$, two strangeness=0 and isospin=1 states, and two strangeness=1 and isospin=1/2 states. For the $f_0(1370)$ and $f_2(1270)$ we reproduce the previous results for the two-photon decay widths and further calculate their one photon-one vector decay widths. For the $f_0(1710)$ and $f_2'(1525)$ the calculated two-photon decay widths are found to be consistent with data. The $ρ^0γ$, $ωγ$ and $ϕγ$ decay widths of the $f_0(1370)$, $f_2(1270)$, $f_0(1710)$, $f'_2(1525)$ are compared with the results predicted by other approaches. The $K^{*+}γ$ and $K^{*0}γ$ decay rates of the $K^*_2(1430)$ are also calculated and compared with the results obtained in the framework of the covariant oscillator quark model. Wave functions for dynamically generated resonances; the two $Λ(1405)$ and $Λ(1670)$

In this work we develop a formalism to evaluate wave functions in momentum and coordinate space for the resonant states dynamically generated in a unitary coupled channel approach. It also offers a practical way to study three body systems when two of them cluster into a resonance.

Asymmetry observables in e+ e- --> pi+ pi- gamma in the phi region within a chiral unitary approach

We make a theoretical study of the charge and forward-backward pion asymmetries in the e+e- --> pi+ pi- gamma process on and off the phi resonance energy. These observables are rather sensitive to the inner details of the theoretical models to describe the reaction. In addition to the standard implementation of the initial state radiation (ISR) and the Bremsstrahlung contribution to the final state radiation (FSR), we use the techniques of the chiral unitary approach to evaluate the contribution from the mechanisms of phi decay into pi+pi-gamma. This contribution involves the implementation of final state interaction from direct chiral loops, the exchange of vector and axial-vector resonances and the final state interaction through the consideration of the meson-meson unitarized amplitudes, which where found important in a previous work describing the phi --> pi pi gamma. We find a good reproduction of the experimental data from KLOE for the forward-backward asymmetry, both at the phi peak and away from it. We also make predictions for the angular distributions of the charge asymmetry and show that this observable is very sensitive to the chiral loops involved in phi radiative decay.

We can establish a correspondence with known baryonic resonances, reinforcing conclusions previously drawn and bringing new light on the nature of some baryonic resonances of higher mass.

Dynamically generated resonances from the vector octet-baryon decuplet interaction

We study the interaction of the octet of vector mesons with the decuplet of baryons using Lagrangians of the hidden gauge theory for vector interactions. The unitary amplitudes in coupled channels develop poles that can be associated with some known baryonic resonances, while there are predictions for new ones at the energy frontier of the experimental research. The work offers guidelines on how to search for these resonances.

Dynamically generated resonances from the vector octet-baryon octet interaction

We study the interaction of vector mesons with the octet of stable baryons in the framework of the local hidden gauge formalism using a coupled channels unitary approach. We examine the scattering amplitudes and their poles, which can be associated to known J^P=1/2^-,3/2^- baryon resonances, in some cases, or give predictions in other ones. The formalism employed produces doublets of degenerate J^P=1/2^-,3/2^- states, a pattern which is observed experimentally in several cases. The findings of this work should also be useful to guide present experimental programs searching for new resonances, in particular in the strange sector where the current information is very poor.

K- absorption in nuclei by two and three nucleons

It will be shown that the peaks in the (Lambda p) and (Lambda d) invariant mass distributions, observed in recent FINUDA experiments and claimed to be signals of deeply bound kaonic states, are naturally explained in terms of K- absorption by two or three nucleons leaving the rest of the original nuclei as spectator. For reactions on heavy nuclei, the subsequent interactions of the particles produced in the primary absorption process with the residual nucleus play an important role. Our analyses leads to the conclusion that at present there is no experimental evidence of deeply bound K- state in nuclei. Although the FINUDA experiments have been done for reasons which are not supported a posteriori, some new physics can be extracted from the data.

Radiative open charm decay of the Y(3940), Z(3930), X(4160) resonances

We determine the radiative decay amplitudes for decay into $D^*$ and $\bar{D} γ$, or $D^*_s$ and $\bar{D}_s γ$ of some of the charmonium like states classified as X,Y,Z resonances, plus some other hidden charm states which are dynamically generated from the interaction of vector mesons with charm. The mass distributions as a function of the $\bar{D} γ$ or $\bar{D}_s γ$ invariant mass show a peculiar behavior as a consequence of the $D^* \bar{D}^*$ nature of these states. The experimental search of these magnitudes can shed light on the nature of these states.

Searching for exotic states in the $N πK $ system

We study the $N πK$ system in order to investigate the possibility of existence of strangeness +1 resonance(s). The formalism consists of solving the Faddeev equations with the $N π$, $πK $ and $K N$ $t$-matrices obtained from chiral dynamics. The same formalism, which leads to the finding of several $1/2^+$ resonances in the corresponding three-body $S$ = -1 channels in the 1400-2000 MeV energy region, results into only one broad bump around 1700 MeV with isospin 0. The amplitudes in isospin 1 and 2 configuration do not have any resonant structure.

Searching for signatures around 1920 MeV of a $N^*$ state of three hadron nature

We provide a series of arguments which support the idea that the peak seen in the $γp \to K^+ Λ$ reaction around 1920 MeV should correspond to the recently predicted state of $J^P=1/2^+$ as a bound state of $K \bar{K}N$ with a mixture of $a_0(980)N$ and $f_0(980)N$ components. At the same time we propose polarization experiments in that reaction as a further test of the prediction, as well as a study of the total cross section for $γp \to K^+ K^- p$ at energies close to threshold and of $d σ/d M_{inv}$ for invariant masses close to the two kaon threshold.

The (K-,p) reaction on C12 at KEK

We study the (K-,p) reaction on C12 with a kaon beam of 1 GeV momentum, paying a special attention to the region of emitted protons having kinetic energy above 600 MeV, which was used to claim a deep kaon nucleus optical potential [1]. The experiment looks for fast protons emitted from the absorption of in flight kaons by nuclei, but in coincidence with at least one charged particle in the decay counters sandwiching the target. The analysis of the data is done in [1] assuming that the coincidence requirement does not change the shape of the final spectra. However our detailed calculations show that this assumption doesn't hold, and, thus, the final conclusion of this experiment is doubtful. We perform Monte Carlo simulation of this reaction. The advantage of our method with respect to Green's function method used in [1] is that it allows to account not only for quasi-elastic K- p scattering, but also for the other processes which contribute to the proton spectra. We investigated the effect of the multi-scatterings and of the K- absorptions by one and two nucleons (K- N --> pi Y and K- N N --> Y N) followed by the decay of the hyperon in pi N. We show that all these mechanisms allow us to explain reasonably well the observed spectrum with standard shallow kaon nucleus optical potential, obtained in chiral models. [1] T. The (K-,p) reaction on nuclei with in-flight kaons

We perform a theoretical study of the spectrum of protons with kinetic energies of around 600 MeV, emitted following the interaction of 1 GeV/c kaons with nuclei. A recent experimental analysis of this (K-,p) reaction on 12C, based on the dominant quasielastic process, has suggested a deeply attractive kaon nucleus potential. Our Monte Carlo simulation considers, in addition, the one-and two-nucleon K- absorption processes producing hyperons that decay into πN pairs. We find that this kaon in-flight reaction is not well suited to determine the kaon optical potential due, essentially, to the limited sensitivity of the cross section to its strength, but also to unavoidable uncertainties from the coincidence requirement applied in the experiment. A shallow kaon nucleus optical potential obtained in chiral models is perfectly compatible with the observed spectrum.

The $γγ$ decay of the $f_0(1370)$ and $f_2(1270)$ resonances in the hidden gauge formalism

Using recent results obtained within the hidden gauge formalism for vector mesons, in which the $f_0(1370)$ and $f_2(1270)$ resonances are dynamically generated resonances from the $ρρ$ interaction, we evaluate the radiative decay of these resonances into $γγ$. We obtain results for the width in good agreement with the experimental data for the $f_2(1270)$ state and a width about a factor five smaller for the $f_0(1370)$ resonance, which would agree with preliminary results from the Belle collaboration, hinting at an order of magnitude smaller width for this resonance than for the $f_2(1270)$.

Nature of the axial-vector mesons from their Nc behavior within the chiral unitary approach

By describing within the chiral unitary approach the s-wave interaction of the vector meson nonet with the octet of pseudoscalar Goldstone Bosons, we find that the main component of the axial vector mesons b_1(1235), h_1(1170), h_1(1380), a_1(1260), f_1(1285) and the two states associated to the K_1(1270) does not follow the QCD dependence on the number of colors for ordinary qqbar mesons.

Resonances in chiral unitary approaches

The extension of chiral theories to the description of resonances, via the incorporation of unitarity in coupled channels, has provided us with a new theoretical perspective on the nature of some of the observed excited hadrons. In this contribution some of the early achievements in the field of baryonic resonances are reviewed, the recent evidence of the two-pole nature of the Lambda(1405) is discussed and results on charmed baryon resonances are presented.

The nature of the Lambda(1405)

We present here some results supporting the nature of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance as dynamically generated from the meson baryon interaction in coupled channels and resulting from the superposition of two close-by poles. We find support for this picture in the $K^- p \to π^0 π^0 Σ^0 $ reaction, which shows a different shape than the one obtained from the $π^- p \to K^0 πΣ$ reaction. We also call the attention to the $K^- p \to γπΣ$ with $πΣ$ in the $Λ(1405)$ region, which shows a narrow peak in the calculations around 1420 MeV. We also report on recent calculations of the radiative decay of the two $Λ(1405)$ states and on reactions to obtain information on these decay modes. Finally, we present results for the $pp\to p K^+Λ(1405)$ reaction recently measured at ANKE/COSY and compare them with theoretical results.

Coupling of \bar K*N to the Lambda(1520)

We study the coupling of the Lambda(1520)= Lambda* resonance to the \bar K* vector meson and nucleon. This coupling is not directly measured from the resonance decay, but is expected to be important in hyperon production reactions, in particular for the exotic Theta+ production. We compute the coupling in two different schemes, one in the chiral unitary model where the Lambda* is dominated by the quasibound state of mesons and baryons, and the other in the quark model where the resonance is a p-wave excitation in the three valence quarks. Although it is possible to construct both models such that they reproduce the \bar K N and pi Sigma decays, there is a significant difference between the Lambda* \bar K* N couplings in the two models. In the chiral unitary model $|g_{Λ^*\bar{K}^* N}| \sim 1.5$, while in the quark model $|g_{Λ^*\bar{K}^* N}| \sim 10$. The difference of the results stems from the different structure of the Lambda* in both models, and hence, an experimental determination of this coupling would shed light on the nature of the resonance.

Two pion mediated scalar isoscalar NN interaction in the nuclear medium

We study the modification of the nucleon nucleon interaction in a nuclear medium in the scalar isoscalar channel, mediated by the exchange of two correlated ($σ$ channel) or uncorrelated pions. For this purpose we use a standard approach for the renormalization of pions in nuclei. The corrections obtained for the $NN$ interaction in the medium in this channel are of the order of 20% of the free one in average, and the consideration of short range correlations plays an important role in providing these moderate changes. Yet, the corrections are sizable enough to suggest further studies of the stability and properties of nuclear matter.

Baryonic Resonances from Baryon Decuplet-Meson Octet Interactions and the Exotic Resonance S=1, I=1, J^P=3/2-

Using the lowest order chiral Lagrangian we study s-wave interactions of the baryon decuplet with the octet of pseudoscalar mesons. We find two bound states in the flavour SU(3) limit corresponding to the octet and decuplet representations. These are found to split into eight different trajectories in the complex plane when the SU(3) symmetry is broken gradually. Finally, we are able to provide a reasonable description for a good number of 4-star 3/2- resonances listed by the Particle Data Group. In particular, the Xi(1820), the Lambda(1520) and the Sigma(1670) states are well reproduced. We predict a few other resonances and also evaluate the couplings of the observed resonances to the various channels from the residues at the poles of the scattering matrix from where partial decay widths into different channels can be evaluated.

Bound states of $Θ^+$ in nuclei

We study the binding energy and the width of the $Θ^+$ in nuclei, associated to the $K N$ and $ K πN$ components. The first one leads to negligible contributions while the second one leads to a sizeable attraction, enough to bind the $Θ^+$ in nuclei. Pauli blocking and binding effects on the $K N$ decay reduce considerably the $Θ^+$ decay width in nuclei and medium effects associated to the $ K πN$ component also lead to a very small width, as a consequence of which one finds separation between the bound levels considerably larger than the width of the states.

Chiral coupled channel dynamics of the Lambda(1520) and the K-P -> pi0 pi0 Lambda reaction

We study the $Λ(1520)D_{03}$ in a chiral coupled channel approach. This resonance appears as dynamically generated from the interaction of the decuplet of baryons and the octet of mesons in s-wave, and its treatment is improved here with the phenomenological inclusion of the $\bar{K} N$ and $πΣ$ channels in d-wave. Since the most important building block in the $Λ(1520)$ is the $π\Sgs(1385)P_{13}$ channel, we study the $K^- p \to π\Sgs(1385) (π^0 Λ)$ reaction in the region of the $Λ(1520)$ and above, and compare the results with recent experimental data. With the coupling of the $Λ(1520)$ to the $π\Sgs$ channel predicted by the theory we find a cross section in good agreement with the data and there is as well agreement for the invariant mass distributions which show a neat peak for the $\Sgs(1385)$ in the $(π^0 Λ)$ spectrum. Predictions are made of a strong $Λ(1520)$ resonant peak of the cross section, as a function of the $K^-$ momentum, in the region below the measured data which, if confirmed experimentally, would give a stronger support to the idea of the $Λ(1520)$ as a dynamically generated resonance.

Chiral dynamics of baryon resonances and hadrons in a nuclear medium

In these lectures I make an introduction to chiral unitary theory applied to the meson baryon interaction and show how several well known resonances are dynamically generated, and others are predicted. Two very recent experiments are analyzed, one of them showing the existence of two $Λ(1405)$ states and the other one providing support for the $Λ(1520)$ resonance as a quasibound state of $Σ(1385) π$. The use of chiral Lagrangians to account for the hadronic interaction at the elementary level introduces a new approach to deal with the modification of meson and baryon properties in a nuclear medium. Examples of it for $\bar{K}$, $η$ and $ϕ$ modification in the nuclear medium are presented.

The $ππ$ scattering amplitude in the $σ$-channel is studied at finite baryonic density in the framework of a chiral unitary approach which successfully reproduces the meson meson phase shifts and generates the $f_0$ and $σ$ resonances in vacuum. We address here a new variety of mechanisms recently suggested to modify the $ππ$ interaction in the medium, as well as the role of the $s-$wave selfenergy, in addition to the $p-$wave, in the dressing of the pion propagators.

Study of a possible S=+1 dynamically generated baryonic resonance

Starting from the lowest order chiral Lagrangian for the interaction of the baryon decuplet with the octet of pseudoscalar mesons we find an attractive interaction in the $ΔK$ channel with L=0 and I=1, while the interaction is repulsive for I=2. The attractive interaction leads to a pole in the second Riemann sheet of the complex plane and manifests itself in a large strength of the $ΔK$ scattering amplitude close to the $ΔK$ threshold, which is not the case for I=2. However, we also make a study of uncertainties in the model and conclude that the existence of this pole depends sensitively upon the input used and can disappear within reasonable variations of the input parameters. We take advantage to study the stability of the other poles obtained for the ${3/2}^-$ dynamically generated resonances of the model and conclude that they are stable and not contingent to reasonable changes in the input of the theory.

Dynamically Generated Resonances in the Chiral Unitary Approach to Meson Baryon Interaction

In this talk we report on the use of a chiral unitary approach for the interaction of the octets of meson and baryon and the octet of mesons with the decuplet of baryons. Two octets of $J^π=1/2^-$ baryon states and a singlet are generated dynamically in the first case, resulting in the case of strangeness $S=-1$ in two poles of the scattering matrix close to the nominal $Λ(1405)$ resonance. In the second case many resonances are also generated, among them an exotic baryon with S=1 corresponding to a $ΔK$ resonance. We make suggestions of experiments which could show evidence for the existence of these states.

Measuring the $ϕ$ meson width in the medium from $p$ induced $ϕ$ production in nuclei

We study the $A$ dependence of the $ϕ$ meson production cross section in proton nucleus reactios at energies just above threshold, which are accessible in an experimental facility like COSY. This $A$ dependence has two sources: the distortion of the incident proton and the absorption of the $ϕ$ in its way out of the nucleus. This second process reduces the cross section in about a factor two in heavy nuclei. Thus we show that the $A$ dependence of the cross section contains valuable information on the $ϕ$ width in the nuclear medium.

Photoproduction of $K^*$ for the study of $Λ(1405)$

The photo-induced $K^*$ vector meson production is investigated for the study of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance. This reaction is particularly suited to the isolation of the second pole in the $Λ(1405)$ region which couples dominantly to the $\bar K N$ channel. We obtain the mass distribution of the $Λ(1405)$ which peaks at 1420 MeV, and differs from the nominal one. Combined with several other reactions, like the $π^- p \to K^0 πΣ$ which favours the first pole, this detailed study will reveal a novel structure of the $Λ(1405)$ state.

Radiative vector meson decay

Other mechanisms in which two kaons are produced through the same sequential mechanisms or from vector meson decay into two kaons which undergo final state interaction leading to the final pair of pions or $π^0 η$, are also considered. The results of the parameter free theory, together with the theoretical uncertainties, are compared with the latest experimental results at Frascati and Novosibirsk.

S-wave pion nucleon scattering lengths from $πN$, pionic hydrogen and deuteron data

The isoscalar and isovector scattering lengths (b_0,b_1) are determined using a unitarized coupled channel approach based on chiral Lagrangians. Using experimental values of pionic hydrogen and deuterium as well as low energy pi N scattering data, the free parameters of the model are calculated. Isospin violation is incorporated to a certain extent by working with physical particle masses. For the deuterium scattering length a_{pi-d} new significant corrections concerning real and imaginary parts are evaluated, putting new constraints from pi-d scattering on the values of (b_0,b_1). In particular, dispersion corrections, the influence of the Delta(1232) resonance, crossed terms and multiple scattering in a Faddeev approach are considered.

$Λ(1405)$ production in the $π^-p\to K^0πΣ$ reaction

We discuss the mechanisms that lead to $Λ(1405)$ production in the $π^-p\to K^0πΣ$ reaction. The problem has gained renewed interest after different works converge to the conclusion that there are two resonances around the region of 1400 MeV, rather than one, and that they couple differently to the $πΣ$ and $\bar{K}N$ channels. We look at the dynamics of that reaction and find two mechanisms which eventually filter each one of the resonances, leading to very different shapes of the $πΣ$ invariant mass distributions. The combination of the two mechanisms leads to a shape of this distribution compatible with the experimental measurements.

Light scalar mesons in $J / psi ->$NN$meson meson$ decays in a chiral unitary approach

We study the four-body decays $J/ψ\to N {\bar N}$ {\it meson meson} using a chiral unitary approach to account for the meson meson final state interaction (FSI). The calculation of the $J/ψ\to N \bar N π^+ π^-$ process properly reproduces the experimental data after taking the FSI of mesons and the contribution of intermediate $ρ$ meson into account. Mass dependence of inclusive nuclear $ϕ$ photoproduction

Based on a prior determination of the $ϕ$ selfenergy in a nuclear medium we perform a theoretical study of inclusive $ϕ$ photoproduction in nuclei, looking at the $A$ dependence of the cross sections for different $ϕ$ momenta. We find sizeable reductions in the nuclear cross sections with respect to the elementary one, using a $ϕ$ selfenergy which implies a width about six times the free one at normal nuclear density. The $(π^-,γγ)$ reaction in nuclei and the $σ$ meson in the medium

A theoretical analysis of the $(π^-,γγ)$ reaction in nuclei is made in order to find the viability of this reaction to test modifications of the $σ$ meson mass in nuclear matter. The $ππ$ correlation in the scalar-isoscalar channel in nuclear matter could, in principle, manifest itself in this reaction since it plays an important role in the $ππ\toγγ$ mechanism. But we conclude that this effect is hardly visible in this reaction due to the strong background of the pion-Bremsstrahlung terms. Only with some special cuts and for some polarization states are the effect visible at the cost of a strong reduction in the cross section.

$η$ bound states in nuclei

The energies and widths of bound states of the $η$ meson in different nuclei are obtained using the results for its selfenergy in a nuclear medium, which is evaluated in a selfconsistent manner using techniques of unitarized chiral perturbation theory. We find bound states in all studied nuclei (from $^{12}{C}$ on) and the half widths obtained are larger than the separation of the levels, what makes the experimental observation of peaks unlikely. We have paid a special attention to the region of nuclei where only the $1s$ state appears and the binding energies are of the order of magnitude of the half width, which would magnify the chances that some broad peak could be observed. This is found in the region of $^{24}{Mg}$ with a binding energy around 12.6 MeV and half width of 16.7 MeV. In heavy nuclei like $^{208}{Pb}$ there are many bound states which would be difficult to disentangle and the deepest state has a binding energy about 21 MeV and half width around 16 MeV. Such an overlapping accumulation of states could be seen as an extension of the continuum of $η$ strength into the bound region in $η$ production experiments.

Chiral approach to the rho meson in nuclear matter

In this work, the properties of the $ρ$ meson at rest in cold symmetric nuclear matter are studied. We make use of a chiral unitary approach to pion-pion scattering in the vector-isovector channel, calculated from the lowest order Chiral Perturbation Theory ($χPT$) lagrangian including explicit resonance fields. Low energy chiral constraints are considered by matching our expressions to those of one loop $χPT$. To account for the medium corrections, the $ρ$ couples to $ππ$ pairs which are properly renormalized in the nuclear medium, accounting for both $p-h$ and $Δ-h$ excitations. The terms where the $ρ$ couples directly to the hadrons in the $p-h$ or $Δ-h$ excitations are also accounted for. In addition, the $ρ$ is also allowed to couple to $N^{*}(1520)-h$ components.

Chiral unitary approach to hadron spectroscopy

The s-wave meson-baryon interaction in the $S = -1$, $S= 0$ and $S= -2$ sectors is studied by means of coupled channels, using the lowest-order chiral Lagrangian and the N/D method or equivalently the Bethe-Salpeter equation to implement unitarity. This chiral approach leads to the dynamical generation of the $Λ(1405)$, $Λ(1670)$ and $Σ(1620)$ states for $S = -1$, the $N^*(1535)$ for $S= 0$ and the $Ξ(1620)$ for $S= -2$. We look for poles in the complex plane and extract the couplings of the resonances to the different final states. This allows identifying the $Λ(1405)$ and the $Λ(1670)$ resonances with $\bar{K}N$ and $KΞ$ quasibound states, respectively. Our results are found to be incompatible with the measured properties of the $Ξ(1690)$ resonance, thus ruling this state out as the remaining member of this octet of dynamically generated resonances. We therefore assign $1/2^-$ for the spin and parity of the $Ξ(1620)$ resonance as the $S=-2$ member of the lowest-lying $1/2^-$ octet.

eta in the nuclear medium within a chiral unitary approach

The self-energy of an eta meson in the nuclear medium is calculated in a chiral unitary approach. The two pion decay of the Roper resonance

We evaluate the two pion decay of the Roper resonance in a model where explicit re-scattering of the two final pions is accounted for by the use of unitarized chiral perturbation theory. Our model does not include an explicit $ε$ or $σ$ scalar-isoscalar meson decay mode, instead it generates it dynamically by means of the pion re-scattering. The two ways, explicit or dynamically generated, of introducing this decay channel have very different amplitudes. Nevertheless, through interference with the other terms of the model we are able to reproduce the same phenomenology as models with explicit consideration of the $ε$ meson.

The reaction is inclusive $ϕ$ photoproduction in nuclei, looking for $K^+ K^-$ pairs from the $ϕ$ decay with total momentum smaller than 100-150 $MeV/c$, which are made possible at energies of present laboratories from center of mass $ϕ$ backward production and the help of Fermi motion. We have conducted a many body calculation of the mass distribution of the $ϕ$ adapted to the experimental set up of a recent JLAB experiment where the backwards $ϕ$ photoproduction has been measured. Using recent results for the in medium properties of the $ϕ$, we find that the width of the invariant mass distribution for photoproduction on medium to heavy nuclei is larger than the free $ϕ$ width by a factor of two or more.

The role of Delta(1700) excitation and rho production in double pion photoproduction

Recent information on invariant mass distributions of the $γp\toπ^+π^0 n$ reaction, where previous theoretical models had shown deficiencies, have made more evident the need for new mechanisms, so far neglected or inaccurately included. We have updated a previous model to include new necessary mechanisms. We find that the production of the $ρ$ meson, and the $Δ(1700)$ excitation, through interference with the dominant terms, are important mechanisms that solve the puzzle of the $γp\toπ^+π^0 n$ reaction without spoiling the early agreement with the $γp\toπ^+π^- p$ and $γp\toπ^0π^0 p$ reactions.

Pion and Kaon Vector Form Factors: a Chiral Unitary Approach

The pion and kaon coupled-channel vector form factors are described by making use of the resonance chiral Lagrangian results together with a suitable unitarization method in order to take care of the final state interactions. A very good reproduction of experimental data is accomplished for the vector form factors up to $\sqrt{s}\leq 1.2$ GeV and for the $ππ$ P-wave phase shifts up to $\sqrt{s}\leq 1.5$ GeV.

Renormalization of the f0(980) and a0(980) scalar resonances in a nuclear medium

The meson meson interaction in the scalar sector in the presence of a nuclear medium is studied with particular attention to the change of the properties of the f0(980) and a0(980) resonances. By using a chiral unitary approach which generates the f0 and a0 resonances and reproduces their free properties, we find that the position of the resonances in the medium is barely changed but their widths are considerably broadened. New many body corrections generating from higher orders in the chiral Lagrangian plus the contribution from N*h excitations, not considered before in connection with the pion-pion interaction in the nuclear medium, are also investigated.

The rho meson in a nuclear medium

In this work, propagation properties of the rho meson in symmetric nuclear matter are studied. We make use of a coupled channel unitary approach to meson-meson scattering, calculated from the lowest order Chiral Perturbation Theory lagrangian including explicit resonance fields. Low energy chiral constraints are considered by matching our expressions to those of one loop Ch.P.T. To account for the medium corrections, the rho couples to pion-pion and kaon-antikaon pairs which are properly renormalized in the nuclear medium.

Charged current weak production of the Delta resonance

The charge changing weak production of Delta in nucleons and nuclei is studied. The reactions e^{-} p -> Delta^{0} ν_{e} and e^{+} p -> Delta^{++} \barν_{e} are considered as a possible source of information about the weak N-Delta transition form factors. The low q^2 BNL data on neutrino production of Delta are used to extract the axial vector N-Delta coupling, taking into account the deuteron structure and the Delta width. Finally, pion production induced by neutrinos in ^{16}O in the Delta region, relevant to atmospheric neutrino experiments, is investigated.

Photoproduction of meson and baryon resonances in a chiral unitary approach

By means of a coupled channel non-perturbative unitary approach, it is possible to extend the strong constrains of Chiral Perturbation Theory to higher energies. In particular, it is possible to reproduce the lowest lying resonances in meson-meson scattering up to 1.2 GeV using the parameters of the O(p^2) and O(p^4) Chiral Lagrangian. The meson baryon sector can also be tackled along similar lines. We report on an update of these results showing some examples of photon induced reactions where the techniques have been recently applied.

Recent progress on the chiral unitary approach to meson meson and meson baryon interactions

We report on recent progress on the chiral unitary approach, analogous to the effective range expansion in Quantum Mechanics, which is shown to have a much larger convergence radius than ordinary chiral perturbation theory, allowing one to reproduce data for meson meson interaction up to 1.2 GeV. Applications to physical processes so far unsuited for a standard chiral perturbative approach are presented. Results for the extension of these ideas to the meson baryon sector are discussed, together with applications to kaons in a nuclear medium and $K^-$ atoms.

Scalar Isoscalar pion pairs in nuclei and the A(pi,pipi)X reaction

The reaction A(pi,pi pi)X has been studied at low energies, paying particular attention to the interaction of the two final pions in the scalar isoscalar (I=J=0) channel. We have developed a microscopic model for the pion production, and then implemented the two pion final state interaction by using the results of a non-perturbative unitary coupled-channels method based in the standard chiral Lagrangians. The resulting model, describes well the reaction on the nucleon for all different isospin channels. Finally, we have considered the reaction in nuclei. Our calculation takes into account Fermi motion, Pauli blocking, pion absorption, and also the strong modification of the pi-pi interaction in the nuclear medium.

Inclusive Neutrino Scattering in C-12: Implications for nu_mu to nu_e Oscillations

We study inclusive nu_e and nu_mu cross sections in C-12 in a theory that takes into account significant nuclear renormalization of strengths. Our calculation is in excellent agreement with the measured inclusive muon capture rate and the flux-averaged nu_e cross section, but overestimates the flux-averaged nu_mu inclusive cross section. These reactions are of crucial relevance to the issue of possible nu_mu to nu_e oscillations. We also calculate the flux-averaged cross sections in C-13 and Al-27, which are found to be consistent with the available experimental result.

Meson-Meson interaction in a non-perturbative chiral approach

A non-perturbative method which combines constraints from chiral symmetry breaking and coupled channel unitarity is used to describe the meson-meson interaction up to about 1.2 GeV. The approach uses the O(p^2) and O(p^4) chiral Lagrangians. The seven free parameters of the O(p^4) Lagrangian are fitted to the data. The results are in good agreement with a vast amount of experimental analyses. The amplitudes develop poles in the complex plane corresponding to the f0, a0, rho, K*, phi, sigma and kappa resonances; the latter two, very broad. The total and partial decay widths of the resonances are also well reproduced. Further extensions and applications of this chiral non-perturbative scheme are also discussed.

Theoretical Study of the γγ-->meson-meson Reaction

We present a unified picture which studies simultaneously the gamma gamma-->pi^+ pi^-, pi^0 pi^0, K^+ K^-, K^0 bar{K}^0, pi^0 eta reactions up to about sqrt(s)=1.4 GeV reproducing the experimental cross sections. The present work implements in an accurate way the final state interactions of the meson-meson system, which is shown to be essential in order to reproduce the data, particularly the L=0 channel. This latter channel is treated here following a recent theoretical work in which the meson-meson amplitudes are well reproduced and the f_0, a_0, sigma resonances show up clearly as poles of the t matrix. The present work, as done in earlier ones, also incorporates elements of chiral symmetry and exchange of vector and axial resonances in the crossed channels, as well as a direct coupling to the f_2(1270) and a_2(1320) resonances. We also evaluate the decay width of the f_0(980) and a_0(980) resonances into the gamma-gamma channel.

Deep Inelastic Lepton Scattering in Nuclei at x > 1 and the Nucleon Spectral Function

The nuclear structure function F_2A(x) has been studied in the Bjorken limit for (l, l') scattering on nuclei in the region of x > 1 and was found to be very sensitive to the information contained in the nucleon spectral function in nuclei, particularly the correlations between momenta and energies in the region of large momenta. Calculations were done in a local density approximation using two different spectral functions for nuclear matter. Results are compared to those obtained for a spectral function which has been evaluated directly for the finite nucleus, ^{16}O, under consideration. For values of x around 1.5 and larger the quasiparticle contribution is negligible, thus stressing the sensitivity of the present reaction to the dynamical properties of nuclei beyond the shell model approach. Several approximations which are usually employed in studies of the EMC effect have been analyzed and their inaccuracy in this region is demonstrated. The results stress the fact that the nuclear structure function contains important information on nuclear dynamical correlations. Therefore further measurements of F_2A(x) in that region and for many nuclei would be most welcome.

Neutron and proton spectra from the decay of $Λ$ hypernuclei

We have determined the spectra of neutrons and protons following the decay of $Λ$ hypernuclei through the one- and two-nucleon induced mechanisms. The momentum distributions of the primary nucleons are calculated and a Monte Carlo simulation is used to account for final state interactions. From the spectra we calculate the number of neutrons ($N_n$) and protons ($N_p$) per $Λ$ decay and show how the measurement of these quantities, particularly $N_p$, can lead to a determination of $Γ_n / Γ_p$, the ratio of neutron to proton induced $Λ$ decay. We also show that the consideration of the two-nucleon induced channel has a repercussion in the results, widening the band of allowed values of $Γ_n / Γ_p$ with respect to what is obtained neglecting this channel.

The N*(1520) ---> Delta pi Amplitudes Extracted from the gamma p ---> pi+ pi- p Reaction and Comparison to Quark Models

The gamma p ---> pi+ pi- p reaction, in combination with data from the pi N ---> pi pi N reaction, allows one to obtain the s- and d-wave amplitudes for the N*(1520) decay into Delta pi with absolute sign with respect to the N*(1520) ---> N gamma helicity amplitudes. In addition one obtains the novel information on the q dependence of the amplitudes. This dependence fits exactly with the predictions of the non-relativistic constituent quark models. The absolute values provided by these models agree only qualitatively, and a discussion is done on the reasons for it and possible ways to improve.

Virtual versus Real Nuclear Compton Scattering in the Delta(1232) Region

In this paper we calculate the cross section for Virtual Compton Scattering off nuclei in the delta resonance region. We also calculate the background for the process from Coherent Bremsstrahlung in nuclei and explore the regions where the Virtual Compton Scattering cross section dominates. The study also shows that it is possible to extract the cross section for Real Compton Scattering from the Virtual Compton one in a wide range of scattering angles.

CHIRAL SYMMETRY CONSTRAINTS ON THE $K^+$ INTERACTION WITH THE NUCLEAR PION CLOUD

The real part of the $K^{+}$ selfenergy for the interaction of the $K^{+}$ with the pion nuclear cloud is evaluated in lowest order of chiral perturbation theory and is found to be exactly zero in symmetric nuclear matter. This removes uncertainties in that quantity found in former phenomenological analyses and is supported by present experimental data on $K^{+}$ nucleus scattering.

Double Delta Production in the gamma d ---> p n pi+ pi- Reaction

We have studied the gamma d ---> Delta++ Delta- reaction which requires the collaboration of the two nucleons in deuteron. By means of a model previously developed for the gamma p ----> p pi+ pi- reaction, the two body exchange currents leading to double delta creation are derived. A fair agreement is obtained with a recent experiment, but more precise measurements and the extension to higher photon energies look advisable in order to see the limits of the present theoretical approach

Double Pion Photoproduction in Nuclei

The inclusive A(gamma,pi+ pi-)X reaction is studied theoretically. A sizeable enhancement of the cross section is found, in comparison with the scaling of the deuteron cross section (sigma_deuteron * A/2). This enhancement is due to the modifications in the nuclear medium of the gamma N ----> pi pi N amplitude and the pion dispersion relation. The enhancement is found to be bigger than the one already observed in the (pi,pi pi) reaction in nuclei.

Double Pion Photoproduction on the Nucleon: Study of the Isospin Channels

A model for the gamma p ----> pion+ pion- p reaction developed earlier is extended to account for all isospin channels. The model includes N, Delta(1232), N^*(1440) and N^*(1520) as intermediate baryonic states and the rho-meson as an intermediate two pion resonance. Although many terms contribute to the cross section, some channels exhibit particular sensitivity to certain mechanisms of resonance excitation or decay and the reactions provide novel information on such mechanisms. In particular the gamma N ----> N^*(1520) ----> Delta(1232) pion process affects all the channels and is a key ingredient in the interpretation of the data. Comparison is made with all available data and the agreement is good in some channels. The remaining discrepancies in some other channels are discussed.

Recent Developments in one and two Pion Production in Elementary Reactions and Few Body Systems

In this talk we cover several issues concerning pion production. The first one is the p p ----> p p pi^0 reaction where an alternative explanation based on the off shell extrapolation of the pi N amplitude is offered. A recent model for the gamma N ----> pi pi N reaction is presented and a new kind of exchange current is constructed from it which allows one to address problems like double Delta photoproduction from the deuteron. Finally the (gamma, pi pi) reaction in nuclei is studied and shown to be highly sensitive to the renormalization of the pions in nuclei.
