Roles of $U(1)$ axial anomaly effects in cold and dense two-color QCD with $2+2$ flavors

We explore phase structures and hadron mass spectra in cold and dense two-color QCD with $2+2$ flavors where the sign problem disappears. We particularly focus on $U(1)$ axial anomaly effects. We employ an $N_f=2+2$ linear sigma model based on the $SU(8)$ Pauli-Gürsey symmetry to describe negative-parity as well as positive-parity hadrons, for which low-energy excitations are appropriately described particularly in the baryon superfluid phase with light diquark condensates. As a result, the strange chiral condensate is found to be enhanced in the superfluid phase owing to the flavor-mixing structure of $U(1)$ axial anomaly effects. We also confirm this enhancement by means of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. Besides, our present analysis predicts the existence of a novel superfluid phase where heavy diquarks condense in dense regime. The topological susceptibility with $2+2$ flavors from the viewpoints of the anomaly effects and chiral-symmetry restoration is investigated. Furthermore, we derive a complete inverse mass hierarchy for negative-parity diquarks with sufficient anomaly effects. Our findings are expected to provide future lattice simulations with useful information on flavor-symmetry violation from the $U(1)$ axial anomaly aspects in cold and dense two-color QCD medium.

Decays of Roper-like singly heavy baryons in a chiral model

We present a chiral model describing decays of the Roper-like $Λ_c(2765)$ and $Ξ_c(2970)$ as well as those of the heavy quark spin-doublet $\{Σ_c(2455),Σ_c(2520)\}$ and $\{Ξ_c',Ξ_c(2645)\}$, by focusing on chiral representations of diquarks inside the heavy baryons. Based on our chiral model together with the heavy quark spin symmetry, we derive a relation satisfied by axial charges of the heavy baryons that controls magnitude of their one pion (kaon) decays. Besides, it is shown that the large decay widths of the Roper-like $Λ_c(2765)$ and $Ξ_c(2970)$, which cannot be implemented by conventional non-relativistic quark models, are explained by reasonable values of the axial charges. In addition, we apply the chiral model to bottom baryons and predict decay widths of the undiscovered Roper-like $Ξ_b$. We expect that our present investigation leads to elucidation of dynamical properties of the excited heavy baryons from the viewpoint of chiral symmetry.

Heavy-quark spin polarization induced by the Kondo effect in a magnetic field

We propose a new mechanism of the heavy-quark spin polarization (HQSP) in quark matter induced by the Kondo effect under external magnetic field. The Kondo effect is caused by a condensate between a heavy and a light quark called the Kondo condensate leading to a mixing of the heavy and light quark spins. Thus the HQSP is driven through the Kondo effect from light quarks coupling with the magnetic field in quark matter. For demonstration, we employ the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio type model under a magnetic field, and investigate the HQSP within the linear response theory with vertex corrections required by the $U(1)_{\rm EM}$ electromagnetic gauge invariance. As a result, we find that the HQSP arises significantly with the appearance of the Kondo effect. Our findings are testable in future sign-problem-free lattice simulations.

Meson resonance gas in a relativistic quark model: scalar vs vector confinement and semishort range correlations

Smooth transitions from hadronic matter to hot and dense matter of quantum chromodynamics accompany continuous transformations in effective degrees of freedom. The microscopic descriptions should include relativistic quarks interacting inside of hadrons. In this work we construct a schematic constituent quark model with relativistic kinematics which captures the global trends of meson spectra in the light, strange, and charm quark sectors. We examine the roles of the scalar- and vector-confining potentials as well as semishort range correlations in estimating the strength of central, spin-spin, and spin-orbit interactions. The quark dynamics in low-lying mesons is very sensitive to relativistic kinematics and short range interactions, while in high-lying mesons are sensitive to the composition of scalar- and vector-confinement. After expressing mesons in terms of quark wave functions, we use them to describe the quark occupation probability in a meson resonance gas, and discuss how it can be related to its counterpart in a quark-gluon-plasma.

Peaks of sound velocity in two color dense QCD: quark saturation effects and semishort range correlations

We discuss stiffening of dense matter in two color QCD (QC$_2$D) where hadrons are mesons and diquark baryons. We study two models which describe a transition of matter from the Bose-Einstein-Condensation regime at low density to the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer regime at high density. The first model is based on coherent states of diquarks, and the second is the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with diquark pairing terms. We particularly focus on how quark states are occupied as baryon density increases. We find that, due to the occupied quark levels, the ideal gas picture of diquarks breaks down at density significantly less than the density where baryon cores overlap. The saturation of quark states at low momenta stiffens equations of state. We also study the effects of interactions which depend on the quark occupation probability. We argue that equations of state become very stiff when the bulk part of the quark Fermi sea has the effective repulsion but the Fermi surface enjoys the attractive correlations. This disparity for different momentum domains is possible due to the strong channel dependence in gluon exchanges with momentum transfer of $0.2-1$ GeV. These concepts can be transferred from QC$_2$D to QCD in any numbers of colors.

Strong decays of multi-strangeness baryon resonances in the quark model

Decay properties of multi-strangeness $Ξ$ and $Ω$ baryon resonances are investigated within the constituent quark model by including relativistic corrections. The strong decay widths of various $Ξ$ and $Ω$ resonances are computed and tested for internal quark configurations to pin down their spin-parity ($J^P$) quantum numbers and internal structures. We found that the Roper-like resonances in the multi-strangeness sector have large decay widths bearing resemblances to their siblings in light and heavy baryon sectors. In addition, we obtained the decay ratio for the $Ω(2012)$ as $Γ{(Ω\to Ξ\bar{K} π)} / Γ{(Ω\to Ξ\bar{K})}=4.5\%$, which is consistent with the experimental data when $J^P=3/2^-$ is assigned. This observation holds the possibility that the $Ω(2012)$ could naturally be explained as a three-quark state in the quark model. The decays of other low-lying $Ξ$ and $Ω$ resonances are systematically analyzed, which would be useful to unveil the structure of these resonances in future experiments.

Comprehensive study of mass modifications of light mesons in nuclear matter in the three-flavor extended Linear Sigma Model

We present a comprehensive study of mass modifications of scalar, pseudo-scalar, vector, and axial-vector mesons in nuclear matter using the three-flavor extended Linear Sigma Model (eLSM) and the two-flavor Parity Doublet Model (PDM). The meson masses in nuclear matter are determined by calculating the one-loop nucleon corrections to the meson mean fields. As a result, we find all spin-$0$ meson masses except those of the pion, kaon, and the lightest scalar-isoscalar mesons decrease at finite baryon density. For spin-$1$ mesons, masses of all axial-vector mesons decrease in medium, and the density dependences of the $ρ$ and $ω$ meson masses strongly depend on the value of chiral invariant mass ($M_0$). Also, our results suggest $M_0\approx0.8\, {\rm GeV}$ is preferable.

Kondo effect driven by chirality imbalance

We propose a novel mechanism of the Kondo effect driven by a chirality imbalance (or chiral chemical potential) of relativistic light fermions. This effect is realized by the mixing between a right- or left-handed fermion and a heavy impurity in the chirality imbalanced matter even at zero density. This is different from the usual Kondo effect induced by finite density. We derive the Kondo effect from both a perturbative calculation and a mean-field approach. We also discuss the temperature dependence of the Kondo effect. The Kondo effect at nonzero chiral chemical potential can be tested by future lattice simulations.

QCD Kondo excitons

The quantum chromodynamics (QCD) Kondo effect is a quantum phenomenon in which heavy quarks ($c$, $b$) exist as impurity particles in quark matter composed of light quarks ($u$, $d$, $s$) at extremely high density. This is analogous to the famous Kondo effect in condensed matter physics. In the present paper, we show theoretically the existence of the "QCD Kondo excitons", i.e., the bound states of light quarks and heavy quarks, as the lowest-excitation modes above the ground state of the quark matter governed by the QCD Kondo effect. These are neutral for color and electric charges, similarly to the Kondo excitons in condensed matter, and they are new type of quasiparticles absent in the normal phase of quark matter. The QCD Kondo excitons have various masses and quantum numbers, i.e., flavors and spin parities (scalar, pseudoscalar, vector, and axialvector). The QCD Kondo excitons lead to the emergence of the neutral currents in transport phenomena, which are measurable in lattice QCD simulations. The study of the QCD Kondo excitons will provide us with understanding of new universal properties shared by quark matter and condensed matter.

Appearance of novel modes of $\bar{D}$ mesons in the Dual Chiral Density Wave

We calculate dispersion relations for $\bar{D}(0^-)$, $\bar{D}^*(1^-)$, $\bar{D}_0^*(0^+)$ and $\bar{D}_1(1^+)$ mesons in the Dual Chiral Density Wave (DCDW) where the chiral symmetry is spontaneously broken by inhomogeneous chiral condensate. Employing the Bloch's theorem, we show that all the modes have opposite group velocity to the momentum in the low-momentum region and the energy is minimized at non-zero momentum. Furthermore, the magnitude of momentum which realizes the minimum energy is equal to the wave number of the density wave.

Coupled channel analysis of molecule picture of $P_{c}(4380)$

We construct a potential obtained by one-pion exchange for the coupled channel $Σ_c^\ast$$\bar{D}$-$Σ_c$$\bar{D}^\ast$, and solve the coupled Schrödinger equations to determine the binding energy. We find that there exists one or two bound states with the binding energy of several MeV below the threshold of $Σ_c^\ast$ and $\bar{D}$, dominantly made from a $Σ_c^\ast$ baryon and a $\bar{D}$ meson, with the size of about $1.5$fm for wide parameter region. We also study the pentaquark states including a $b$ quark and/or an anti-$b$ quark. We show that there exist pentaquarks including $c\bar{b}$, $b\bar{c}$ and $b\bar{b}$, all of which lie at about $10$MeV below the corresponding threshold and have size of about $1.5$fm.

$D$ and $D^{\ast}$ meson mixing in spin-isospin correlated cold nuclear matter

We propose to study the mass spectrum of the heavy-light mesons to probe the structure of the spin-isospin correlation in the nuclear medium. We point out that the spin-isospin correlation in the nuclear medium generates a mixing among the heavy-light mesons carrying different spins and isospins such as $D^+$, $D^0$, $D^{\ast +}$, and $D^{\ast 0}$ mesons. We use two types of correlations motivated by the skyrmion crystal and the chiral density wave as typical examples to obtain the mass splitting caused by the mixing. Our result shows that the structure of the mixing reflects the pattern of the correlation, i.e., the remaining symmetry. Furthermore, the magnitude of the mass modification provides information of the strength of the correlation.

Mass degeneracy of the heavy-light mesons with chiral partner structure in the half-skyrmion phase

We explore the mass splitting of the heavy-light mesons with chiral partner structure in nuclear matter. In our calculation, we employed the heavy hadron chiral perturbation theory with chiral partner structure and the nuclear matter is constructed by putting skyrmions from the standard Skyrme model onto the face-centered cubic crystal and regarding the skyrmion matter as nuclear matter. We find that, although the masses of the heavy-light mesons with chiral partner structure are splitted in the matter-free space and skyrmion phase, they are degenerated in the half-skyrmion phase in which the chiral symmetry is restored globally. This observation suggests that the magnitude of the mass splitting of the heavy-light mesons with chiral partner structure can be used as a probe of the phase structure of the nuclear matter.
