Decay properties of $N(1535)$ in the holographic QCD

We study one pion emission decay of the first excited state of the nucleon with negative parity $N(1535) \equiv N^*$ in the holographic model of QCD. The excited state is described as a vibrational mode along the extra $z$ direction in the five-dimensional space-time of the model. We have obtained an analytic formula for the axial coupling of $g_A^{NN^*}$. The off-diagonal axial coupling is obtained at the decaying pion momentum $|\boldsymbol{k}| = 448$ MeV as $g_A^{NN^*} \sim 0.32$, and hence a partial decay width $Γ_{N^* \to πN} \sim 30$ MeV, which is smaller than but reasonably compared to the experimental data.

Decays of Roper-like singly heavy baryons in a chiral model

We present a chiral model describing decays of the Roper-like $Λ_c(2765)$ and $Ξ_c(2970)$ as well as those of the heavy quark spin-doublet $\{Σ_c(2455),Σ_c(2520)\}$ and $\{Ξ_c',Ξ_c(2645)\}$, by focusing on chiral representations of diquarks inside the heavy baryons. Based on our chiral model together with the heavy quark spin symmetry, we derive a relation satisfied by axial charges of the heavy baryons that controls magnitude of their one pion (kaon) decays. Besides, it is shown that the large decay widths of the Roper-like $Λ_c(2765)$ and $Ξ_c(2970)$, which cannot be implemented by conventional non-relativistic quark models, are explained by reasonable values of the axial charges. In addition, we apply the chiral model to bottom baryons and predict decay widths of the undiscovered Roper-like $Ξ_b$. We expect that our present investigation leads to elucidation of dynamical properties of the excited heavy baryons from the viewpoint of chiral symmetry.

Electromagnetic transition amplitude for Roper resonance from holographic QCD

The Roper resonance, the first excited state of the nucleon, Is one of the best-established baryon resonances. Yet, its properties have not been consistently explained by effective models of QCD, such as the non-relativistic quark model. In this letter, we propose an alternative approach in the Sakai-Sugimoto model that is one of the holographic models of QCD. In particular, we analyze the helicity amplitude of the electromagnetic transitions at the leading of 't~Hooft coupling $1/λ$. The model incorporates baryon structure at short distance by non-linear mesons surrounded by meson clouds at long distance. We demonstrate that the recently observed data by CLAS are explained in the present approach.

Strong decays of multi-strangeness baryon resonances in the quark model

Decay properties of multi-strangeness $Ξ$ and $Ω$ baryon resonances are investigated within the constituent quark model by including relativistic corrections. The strong decay widths of various $Ξ$ and $Ω$ resonances are computed and tested for internal quark configurations to pin down their spin-parity ($J^P$) quantum numbers and internal structures. We found that the Roper-like resonances in the multi-strangeness sector have large decay widths bearing resemblances to their siblings in light and heavy baryon sectors. In addition, we obtained the decay ratio for the $Ω(2012)$ as $Γ{(Ω\to Ξ\bar{K} π)} / Γ{(Ω\to Ξ\bar{K})}=4.5\%$, which is consistent with the experimental data when $J^P=3/2^-$ is assigned. This observation holds the possibility that the $Ω(2012)$ could naturally be explained as a three-quark state in the quark model. The decays of other low-lying $Ξ$ and $Ω$ resonances are systematically analyzed, which would be useful to unveil the structure of these resonances in future experiments.

Substructure of Multiquark Hadrons (Snowmass 2021 White Paper)

In recent years there has been a rapidly growing body of experimental evidence for existence of exotic, multiquark hadrons, i.e. mesons which contain additional quarks, beyond the usual quark-antiquark pair and baryons which consist of more than three quarks. In all cases with robust evidence they contain at least one heavy quark Q=c or b, the majority including two heavy quarks. Two key theoretical questions have been triggered by these discoveries: (a) how are quarks organized inside these multiquark states -- as compact objects with all quarks within one confinement volume, interacting via color forces, perhaps with an important role played by diquarks, or as deuteron-like hadronic molecules, bound by light-meson exchange? (b) what other multiquark states should we expect? The two questions are tightly intertwined. Each of the interpretations provides a natural explanation of parts of the data, but neither explains all of the data. It is quite possible that both kinds of structures appear in Nature. It may also be the case that certain states are superpositions of the compact and molecular configurations. This Whitepaper brings together contributions from many leading practitioners in the field, representing a wide spectrum of theoretical interpretations. We discuss the importance of future experimental and phenomenological work, which will lead to better understandingof multiquark phenomena in QCD.

$P_c$ pentaquarks with chiral tensor and quark dynamics

We investigate the hidden-charm pentaquarks as superpositions of $Λ_c \bar{D}^{(*)}$ and $Σ_c^{(*)} \bar{D}^{(*)}$ (isospin $I = 1/2$) meson-baryon channels coupled to a $uudc\bar{c}$ compact core by employing an interaction satisfying the heavy quark and chiral symmetries. Our model can consistently explain the masses and decay widths of $P_c^+(4312)$, $P_c^+(4440)$ and $P_c^+(4457)$ with the dominant components of $Σ_c \bar D$ and $Σ_c \bar D^\ast$ with spin parity assignments $J^P = 1/2^{-}, 3/2^{-}$ and $1/2^{-}$, respectively. We analyze basic properties of the $P_c$'s such as masses and decay widths, and find that the mass ordering is dominantly determined by the quark dynamics while the decay widths by the tensor force of the one-pion exchange.

Classifying Pole of Amplitude Using Deep Neural Network

Most of exotic resonances observed in the past decade appear as peak structure near some threshold. These near-threshold phenomena can be interpreted as genuine resonant states or enhanced threshold cusps. Apparently, there is no straightforward way of distinguishing the two structures. In this work, we employ the strength of deep feed-forward neural network in classifying objects with almost similar features. We construct a neural network model with scattering amplitude as input and nature of pole causing the enhancement as output. The training data is generated by an S-matrix satisfying the unitarity and analyticity requirements. Using the separable potential model, we generate a validation data set to measure the network's predictive power. We find that our trained neural network model gives high accuracy when the cut-off parameter of the validation data is within $400$-$800\mbox{ MeV}$. As a final test, we use the Nijmegen partial wave and potential models for nucleon-nucleon scattering and show that the network gives the correct nature of pole.

Decay properties of $P$-wave heavy baryons accompanied by vector mesons within light-cone sum rules

We use the method of light-cone sum rules to study decay properties of $P$-wave bottom baryons belonging to the $SU(3)$ flavor $\mathbf{6}_F$ representation. In Ref.~\cite{Cui:2019dzj} we have studied their mass spectrum and pionic decays, and found that the $Σ_{b}(6097)$ and $Ξ_{b}(6227)$ can be well interpreted as $P$-wave bottom baryons of $J^P = 3/2^-$. In this paper we further study their decays into ground-state bottom baryons and vector mesons. We propose to search for a new state $Ξ_b({5/2}^-)$, that is the $J^P = 5/2^-$ partner state of the $Ξ_{b}(6227)$, in the $Ξ_b({5/2}^-) \to Ξ_b^{*}ρ\to Ξ_b^{*}ππ$ decay process. Its mass is $12 \pm 5$~MeV larger than that of the $Ξ_{b}(6227)$.

Excited $Ω_b$ baryons and fine structure of strong interaction

The heavy baryon system bounded by the strong interaction has a rich internal structure, so its mass spectra can have the fine structure similar to the line spectra of atom bounded by the electromagnetic interaction. We systematically study the internal structure of $P$-wave $Ω_b$ baryons and calculate their $D$-wave decay properties. The present study, together with our previous studies on their mass spectra and $S$-wave decay properties, suggest that all the four excited $Ω_b$ baryons recently discovered by LHCb can be well explained as $P$-wave $Ω_b$ baryons, and their beautiful fine structure is directly related to the rich internal structure of $P$-wave $Ω_b$ baryons.

Feasibility study of the $K^{+} d \to K^{0} p p$ reaction for the "$Θ^{+}$" pentaquark

We investigate theoretically the $K^{0} p$ invariant mass spectrum of the $K^{+} d \to K^{0} p p$ reaction and scrutinize how the signal of the "$Θ^{+}$" pentaquark, if it exists, emerges in the $K^{0} p$ spectrum. The most prominent advantage of this reaction is that we can clearly judge whether the "$Θ^{+}$" exists or not as a direct-formation production without significant backgrounds, in contrast to other reactions such as photoproduction and $π$-induced productions. We show that while the impulse or single-step scattering process can cover the "$Θ^{+}$" energy region with an initial kaon momentum $k_{\mathrm{lab}} \approx 0.40\, \mathrm{GeV} / c$ in the laboratory frame, the contributions from double-step processes may have a potential possibility to reach the "$Θ^{+}$" energy region with a higher kaon momentum $k_{\mathrm{lab}} \sim 1 \, \mathrm{GeV} / c$. Assuming that the full decay width of the "$Θ^{+}$" is around $0.5\, \mathrm{MeV}$, we predict that the magnitude of the peak corresponding to the "$Θ^+$" is around a few hundred $μ\mathrm{b}$ to $1\, \mathrm{mb}$ with the momentum of the kaon beam $k_{\mathrm{lab}} \approx 0.40\, \mathrm{GeV} / c$ while it is around $\lesssim 1\, μ\mathrm{b}$ with $k_{\mathrm{lab}} \approx 0.85\, \mathrm{GeV} / c$. Thus, the "$Θ^+$" peak is more likely to be seen at $k_{\mathrm{lab}} \approx 0.40\, \mathrm{GeV} / c$ than at $k_{\mathrm{lab}} \approx 0.85 \,\mathrm{GeV} / c$.

Heavy baryon production with an instanton interaction

We propose a new reaction mechanism for the study of strange and charmed baryon productions. In this mechanism we consider the correlation of two quarks in baryons, so it can be called the two-quark process. As in the previously studied one-quark process, we find large production rates for charmed baryons in comparison with strange baryons. Moreover, the new mechanism causes the excitation of both the $ρ$ mode and the $λ$ mode. Using the wave functions for baryons from a quark model, we compute the production rates of various baryon states. We find that the production rates reflect the structure of the wave functions that imply the usefulness of the reactions for the study of baryon structures.

Heavy baryons in holographic QCD with higher dimensional degrees of freedom

We try to introduce heavy flavors to Sakai-Sugimoto model by regarding higher dimensional components of gauge fields as heavy mesons. Using the Forgács and Manton approach, we obtain a theory composed of heavy mesons and the instanton of light flavors. Applying the collective coordinate quantization method, we derived a mass formula of heavy baryons. In the leading order of $1/m_{H}$ expansion ($m_{H}$ the mass of a heavy quark), we find singlet and doublet states in the heavy quark symmetry (HQS). Also, we obtain the degenerate Roper like and odd parity excitations. By virtue of heavy meson degrees of freedom, our mass formula reproduces the mass ordering of $Σ^*_c$ and $Λ_c^*$ correctly.

Heavy hadronic molecules with pion exchange and quark core couplings: a guide for practitioners

We discuss selected and important features of hadronic molecules as one of promising forms of exotic hadrons near thresholds. Using examples of $D \bar D^*$ systems such as $X(3872)$ and $Z_c$, emphasis is put on the roles of the one pion exchange interaction between them and their coupling to intrinsic quark states. Thus hadronic molecules emerge as admixtures of the dominant long-range hadron structure and short-range quark structure. For the pion exchange interaction, properties of the tensor force are analyzed in detail. More coupled channels supply more attractions, and heavier constituents suppress kinetic energies, providing more chances to form hadronic molecules of heavy hadrons. Throughout this article, we show details of basic ideas and methods.

Lambda(1405) as a K-bar N Feshbach resonance in the Skyrme model

We describe the Lambda(1405) hyperon as a Feshbach resonance of a bar-KN quasi-bound state coupled by a decaying channel of pi Sigma in the Skyrme model. A weakly bound bar-KN state is generated in the laboratory frame, while the Sigma hyperon as a strongly bound state of bar-KN in the intrinsic frame. We obtain a coupling of bar-KN and pi Sigma channels by computing a baryon matrix element of the axial current. This coupling enables the decay of the bar-KN bound state to pi-Sigma . It is shown that the Skyrme model supports the Lambda(1405) as a narrow Feshbach resonance.

The use of the canonical approach in effective models of QCD

We clarify regions where the canonical approach works well at the finite temperature and density in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) and Polyakov-NJL (PNJL) models. The canonical approach is a useful method for avoiding the sign problem in lattice QCD simulations at finite density, but it involves some parameters. We find that number densities computed from the canonical approach are consistent with exact values in most of the confinement phase within the parameters, which are applicable in lattice QCD.

Strange and charmed baryon productions with an instanton interaction

We study strange and charmed baryon productions, ${π+ p \rightarrow K(D) + Y(Y_c)}$, where ${Y(Y_c)}$ is a strange(charmed) baryon of a ground or an excited state. We propose a new production mechanism where two quarks in the baryon participate in the reaction (two-quark process), which enables excitation of both $λ$- and $ρ$-modes of the baryons. To deal with the two-quark process, we consider the 't Hooft six-quark interaction from the instanton model. We study production rates in relation with the structure of charmed baryons for the forward angle scattering.

$K^0 Λ$ and $D^- Λ_c^+$ production induced by pion beams off the nucleon

We present a comparative study of the pion induced production of $K^0 Λ$ and $D^- Λ_c^+$ off the nucleon. A hybrid framework is utilized by combining an effective Lagrangian method with a Regge approach. We consider the $t$-channel process in a plannar diagram by vector-meson Reggeon exchanges and the $u$-channel one in a non-planar diagram by baryon Reggeon exchanges. The present model reproduces the $K^0 Λ$ production data well with a few parameters. Having fixed them, we predict the $D^- Λ_c^+$ production, which turns out to be about $10^4-10^6$ times smaller than the strangeness one, depending on the kinematical regions.

D-wave charmed and bottomed baryons from QCD sum rules

We study the $D$-wave charmed baryons of $SU(3)$ flavor $\mathbf{\bar3}_F$ using the method of QCD sum rule in the framework of heavy quark effective theory (HQET). We find that the $Λ_c(2880)$, $Ξ_c(3055)$ and $Ξ_c(3080)$ can be well described by the $D$-wave $SU(3)$ $\mathbf{\bar 3}_F$ charmed baryon multiplets of $J^P=3/2^+$ and $5/2^+$, which contain two $λ$-mode orbital excitations, i.e., the $Λ_c(2880)$ has $J^P=5/2^+$, and the $Ξ_c(3055)$ and $Ξ_c(3080)$ have $J^P = 3/2^+$ and $5/2^+$, respectively. Our results also suggest that the $Λ_c(2880)$ has a partner state, the $Λ_c(3/2^+)$ of $J^P=3/2^+$. Its mass is around $2.81 ^{+0.33}_{-0.18}$ GeV, and the mass difference between it and the $Λ_c(2880)$ is $28^{+45}_{-24}$ MeV. We also evaluate the masses of their bottom partners.

Heavy pentaquark states $P_c(4380)$ and $P_c(4450)$ in the $J/ψ$ production induced by pion beams off the nucleon

In this study, we investigate the $J/ψ$ production induced by pion beams off the nucleon, particularly the heavy pentaquarks $P_c(4380)$ and $P_c(4450)$ in intermediate states, based on a hybridized Regge model. The process involving $ρ$ and $π$ meson exchange in the $t$ channel is considered as background, and the heavy pentaquark exchange is included in the $s$ channel. The coupling constants such as the $ρNN$ and $πNN$ vertices are taken from the $NN$ potentials, whereas those for the $J/ψρπ$ and $J/ψππ$ vertices are determined by using experimental data based on the branching ratios. In order to estimate the $P_c(4380)$ and $P_c(4450)$ coupling constants, we use the experimental upper limit on the total cross section as a guide for the $πN\to J/ψN$ reaction. The background total cross section is the order of $10^{-4}-10^{-3}$ nb. In the vicinity of the heavy pentaquark masses, the total cross section reaches about $1$ nb.

Kaon-Nucleon systems and their interactions in the Skyrme model

We study kaon-nucleon systems in the Skyrme model in a method based on the bound state approach of Callan-Klebanov but with the kaon around the physical nucleon of the rotating hedgehog. This corresponds to the variation after projection, reversing the order of semiclassical quantization of $1/N_c$ expansion. The method, however, is considered to be suited to the study of weakly interacting kaon-nucleon systems including loosely $\bar{K}N$ bound states such as $Λ(1405)$. We have found a bound state with binding energy of order ten MeV, consistent with the observed state. We also discuss the $\bar{K}N$ interaction and find that it consists of an attraction in the middle range and a repulsion in the short range.

Non-linear quantum dynamics in strong and short electromagnetic fields

In our contribution we give a brief overview of two widely discussed quantum processes: electron-positron pairs production off a probe photon propagating through a polarized short-pulsed electromagnetic (e.m.) (e.g.\ laser) wave field or generalized Breit-Wheeler process and a single a photon emission off an electron interacting with the laser pules, so-called non-linear Compton scattering. We show that at small and moderate laser field intensities the shape and duration of the pulse are very important for the probability of considered processes. However, at high intensities the multi-photon interactions of the fermions with laser field are decisive and completely determined all aspects of subthreshold electron-positron pairs and photon production

Determination of the carrier envelope phase for short, circularly polarized laser pulses

We analyze the impact of the carrier envelope phase on the differential cross sections of the Breit-Wheeler and the generalized Compton scattering in the interaction of a charged electron (positron) with an intensive ultra-short electromagnetic (laser) pulse. The differential cross sections as a function of the azimuthal angle of the outgoing electron have a clear bump structure, where the bump position coincides with the value of the carrier phase. This effect can be used for the carrier envelope phase determination.

P-wave charmed baryons from QCD sum rules

We study the P-wave charmed baryons using the method of QCD sum rule in the framework of heavy quark effective theory (HQET). We consider systematically all possible baryon currents with a derivative for internal rho- and lambda-mode excitations. We have found a good working window for the currents corresponding to the rho-mode excitations for Lambda_c(2595), Lambda_c(2625), Xi_c(2790) and Xi_c(2815) which complete two SU(3) 3F_bar multiplets of J(P)=1/2(-) and 3/2(-), while the currents corresponding to the lambda-mode excitations seem also consistent with the data. Our results also suggest that there are two Sigma_c(2800) states of J(P)=1/2(-) and 3/2(-) whose mass splitting is 14 \pm 7 MeV, and two Xi_c(2980) states whose mass splitting is 12 \pm 7 MeV. They have two Omega_c partners of J(P) = 1/2(-) and 3/2(-), whose masses are around 3.25 \pm 0.20 GeV with mass splitting 10 \pm 6 MeV. All of them together complete two SU(3) 6F multiplets of J(P)=1/2(-) and 3/2(-). They may also have J(P)=5/2(-) partners. Xi_c(3080) may be one of them, and the other two are Sigma_c(5/2(-)) and Omega_c(5/2(-)), whose masses are 85 \pm 23 and 50 \pm 27 MeV larger.

Pion Induced Reactions for the Study of Charmed Baryons

In this talk, we report the study of $π^- p \to K^{*0} Λ$ and $π^- p \to D^{*-} Λ_c^+$ reactions by using an effective Lagrangian method and a hybrid Regge model. The total and differential cross sections for the $K^{*0} Λ$ production are first calculated and then those for the $D^{*-} Λ_c^+$ one are estimated. The two models yield different results, each exhibiting specific features. Our prediction for the charm production provides valuable information about the upcoming J-PARC experiment.

Production of strange and charmed baryons in pion induced reactions

We study the strangeness and charm productions induced by the pion beam, i.e. the $π^-$p $\rightarrow$ $K^{*0}Λ$ and $π^-$p $\rightarrow$ $D^{*-}Λ_c^+$ reactions, based on two different theoretical frameworks: an effective Lagrangian method and a Regge approach. In order to estimate the magnitude of the charm production relative to that of the strangeness production, we assume that the coupling constants for the charmed meson and baryon vertices are the same as those for the strangeness channel. We found that the total cross section for the charm production was about $10^3 - 10^6$ times smaller than that for the strangeness production, depending on theoretical approaches and kinematical regions. We also discuss each contribution to observables for both reactions. In general, the Regge approach explains the experimental data very well over the whole energy region.

QCD sum rule calculation for P-wave bottom baryons

We study the P-wave bottom baryons using the method of QCD sum rule and heavy quark effective theory. Our results suggest that Lambda_b(5912) and Lambda_b(5920) can be well described by the baryon doublet [3F_bar, 1, 1, rho], and they belong to the SU(3) 3F_bar multiplets of J(P)=1/2(-) and 3/2(-). Their SU(3) flavor partners, Xi_b(1/2-) and Xi_b(3/2-), have masses 6.06 \pm 0.13 GeV and 6.07 \pm 0.13 GeV, respectively, with mass splitting 9 \pm 4 MeV. The results obtained using baryon doublet [3F_bar, 1, 0, lambda] are similar and also consistent with the experimental data. We also study the SU(3) 6F multiplets by using the baryon multiplets [6F, 0, 1, lambda], [6_F, 1, 0, rho] and [6F, 2, 1, lambda], and our results suggest that the P-wave bottom baryons Sigma_b, Xi'_b and Omega_b have (averaged) masses about 6.0 GeV, 6.2 GeV and 6.4 GeV, respectively.

Quantum processes in short and intensive electromagnetic fields

This work provides an overview of our recent results in studying two most important and widely discussed quantum processes: electron-positron pairs production off a probe photon propagating through a polarized short-pulsed electromagnetic (e.g.\ laser) wave field or generalized Breit-Wheeler process, and a single a photon emission off an electron interacting with the laser pules, so-called non-linear Compton scattering. We show that the probabilities of particle production in both processes are determined by interplay of two dynamical effects, where the first one is related to the shape and duration of the pulse and the second one is non-linear dynamics of the interaction of charged fermions with a strong electromagnetic field. We elaborate suitable expressions for the production probabilities and cross sections, convenient for studying evolution of the plasma in presence of strong electromagnetic fields

Spectrum of heavy baryons in the quark model

Single- and double- heavy baryons are studied in the constituent quark model. The model Hamiltonian is chosen as a standard one with two exceptions : (1) The color-Coulomb term depend on quark masses, and (2) an antisymmetric $LS$ force is introduced. Model parameters are fixed by the strange baryon spectra, $Λ$ and $Σ$ baryons. The masses of the observed charmed and bottomed baryons are, then, fairly well reproduced. Our focus is on the low-lying negative-parity states, in which the heavy baryons show specific excitation modes reflecting the mass differences of heavy and light quarks. By changing quark masses from the SU(3) limit to the strange quark mass, further to the charm and bottom quark masses, we demonstrate that the spectra change from the SU(3) symmetry patterns to the heavy quark symmetry ones.

We reinvestigate $K^*Λ(1116)$ photoproduction off the nucleon target, based on an effective Lagrangian approach. We include higher nucleon resonances such as $N(2000)\, 5/2^+$, $N(2060)\,5/2^-$, $N(2120)\,3/2^-$, and $N(2190)\,7/2^-$, of which the data are taken from the 2012 edition of Review of Paritcle Physics, in addition to the $t$-channel diagrams ($K$, $K^*$, and $κ$), the $s$-channel nucleon, and $u$-channel hyperon($Λ$, $Σ$, and $Σ^*$) contributions. We find that the $N(2120)\,3/2^-$ and $N(2190)\,7/2^-$ resonances are essential in describing the new CLAS data for charged $K^*$ photoproduction. On the other hand, they rarely affect for neutral $K^*$ photoproduction.

Elementarity of composite systems

The "compositeness" or "elementarity" is investigated for s-wave composite states dynamically generated by energy-dependent and independent interactions. The bare mass of the corresponding fictitious elementary particle in an equivalent Yukawa model is shown to be infinite, indicating that the wave function renormalization constant Z is equal to zero. The idea can be equally applied to both resonant and bound states. In a special case of zero-energy bound states, the condition Z = 0 does not necessarily mean that the elementary particle has the infinite bare mass. We also emphasize arbitrariness in the "elementarity" leading to multiple interpretations of a physical state, which can be either a pure composite state with Z = 0 or an elementary particle with Z \ne 0. The arbitrariness is unavoidable because the renormalization constant Z is not a physical observable.

Hadronic description for Omega baryon photoproduction

In the present work, we investigate subsequential production of three kaons and $Ω^-$ baryon based on an effective Lagrangian approach. We only consider the intermediate states with the light mass baryon to suggest the minimum of the total cross section. Coupling constants for verteces of meson-octet baryons are fixed from the empirical data and/or quark models together with SU(3) symmetry considerations and these for meson-decouplet are predicted not only quark model but also Chiral-quark soliton model calculation. Gauge invariance of the resulting amplitude is maintained by introducing the contact currents by extending the gauge-invariant approach of Haberzettl for one-meson photoproduction to two-meson photoproduction.

Laser pulse-shape dependence of Compton scattering

Compton scattering of short and ultra short (sub-cycle) laser pulses off mildly relativistic electrons is considered within a QED framework. The temporal shape of the pulse is essential for the differential cross section as a function of the energy of the scattered photon at fixed observation angle. The partly integrated cross section is sensitive to the non-linear dynamics resulting in a large enhancement of the cross section for short and, in particular, for ultra-short flat-top pulse envelopes which can reach several orders of magnitude, as compared with the case of a long pulse. Such effects can be studied experimentally and must be taken into account in Monte-Carlo/transport simulations of %$e^+e^-$ pair production in the interaction of electrons and photons in a strong laser field.

Pion induced Reactions for Charmed Baryons

We study pion induced reactions for charmed baryons $B$, $π$ + N $\rightarrow$ $D^*$ + $B$. First we estimate charm production rates in comparison with strangeness production using a Regge model which is dominated by vector ($D^*$ or $K^*$ ) Reggeon exchange. Then we examine the production rates of various charmed baryons $B$ in a quark-diquark model. We find that the production of excited states are not necessarily suppressed, a sharp contrast to strangeness production, which is a unique feature of the charm production with a large momentum transfer.

Complex 2D Matrix Model and Geometrical Map on Complex-Nc Plane

We study the parameter dependence of the internal structure of resonance states by formulating Complex two-dimensional (2D) Matrix Model, where the two dimensions represent two-levels of resonances. We calculate a critical value of the parameter at which "nature transition" with character exchange occurs between two resonance states, from the viewpoint of geometry on complex-parameter space. Such critical value is useful to know the internal structure of resonance states with variation of the parameter in the system. We apply the model to analyze the internal structure of hadrons with variation of the color number Nc from infinity to a realistic value 3. By regarding 1/Nc as the variable parameter in our model, we calculate a critical color number of nature transition between hadronic states in terms of quark-antiquark pair and mesonic molecule as exotics from the geometry on complex-Nc plane. For the large-Nc effective theory, we employ the chiral Lagrangian induced by holographic QCD with D4/D8/D8-bar multi-D brane system in the type IIA superstring theory.

Bottomonium-like resonances Zb(10610) and Zb'(10650) are good candidates of hadronic molecules composed of BBbar* (or B*Bbar) and B*Bbar*, respectively. Considering Zb (Zb') as heavy meson molecules, we investigate the decays of Zb(')^+ -> Upsilon (nS) pi^+$ in terms of the heavy meson effective theory. We find that the intermediate B (B*) and Bbar (Bbar*) meson loops and the form factors play a significant role to reproduce the experimental values of the decay widths. We also predict the decay widths of Zc^+ -> J/ψpi^+ and psi(2S) pi^+ for a charmonium-like resonance Zc which has been reported recently in experiments.

K*Sigma photoproduction off the proton target with baryon resonances

We investigate the photoproduction of K*0Sigma+ and K*+Sigma0 off the proton target, employing the effective Lagrangian approach at the tree-level Born approximation. In addition to the (s, t, u)-channel Born diagrams, we take into account various baryon-resonance contributions such as F15(2000), D13(2080), G17(2190), D15(2200), F35(2000), G37(2200), F37(2390), and Sigma*(1385, 3/2+) in a fully covariant manner. We present the numerical results for the energy and angular dependences for the cross sections in comparison to available experimental data. The single-polarization observables, i.e. the photon-beam, recoil and target baryon polarization asymmetries are computed as well for future experiments. We observe from the numerical results that the resonance contributions play a minor role in producing the strength of the cross sections, being different from the K*Lambda photoproduction. In contrast, it turns out that the Delta(1232)-pole contribution and strange-meson exchanges in the t-channel dominate the scattering process. On the other hand, the higher resonances influence the polarization observables such as the recoil and target asymmetries.

Study of Baryon Resonances in the Photoproduction gamma p ---> K* Sigma(1190)

In this talk, we report the theoretical studies of baryon resonances for the gamma p ---> K*0 Sigma+ and gamma p ---> K*+ Sigma0 reaction processes by making use of the effective Lagrangian method in the tree-level Born approximation. The numerical results for the total and differential cross sections are shown with the presently available data. It turns out that the contributions from the N* and Delta* resonances are almost negligible near the threshold energy. On the other hand, the effects of the K exchange in the t channel and Delta(1232) in the s channel are considerably larger than other ones in the scattering process, being in good agreement with the experimental data.

$ϕ$ photoprodution with coupled-channel effects

We study phi photoproduction with various hadronic rescattering contributions included, in addition to the Pomeron and pseudoscalar meson-exchange diagrams. We find that the hadronic box diagrams can explain the recent experimental data in the vicinity of the threshold. In particular, the bump-like structure at the photon energy E_gamma \approx 2.3$ GeV is well explained by the K Lambda(1520) rescattering amplitude in the intermediate state, which is the dominant contribution among other hadronic contributions. We also find that the hadronic box diagrams are consistent with the observed spin-density matrix elements near the threshold region.

Baryons with U_L(3)*U_R(3) Chiral Symmetry IV: Interactions with Chiral (8,1)+(1,8) Vector and Axial-vector Mesons and Anomalous Magnetic Moments

We construct all SU_L(3)*SU_R(3) chirally invariant anomalous magnetic, i.e. involving a Pauli tensor and one-derivative, interactions of one chiral-[(8,1)+(1,8)] meson field with chiral-[(6,3)+(3,6)], [(3,\bar3)+(\bar3,3)], and [(8,1)+(1,8)] baryon fields and their "mirror" images. We find strong chiral selection rules: e.g. there is only one off-diagonal chirally symmetric anomalous magnetic interaction between J=1/2 fields belonging to the [(6,3)+(3,6)] and the [(3,\bar3)+(\bar3,3)] chiral multiplets. We also study the chiral selection rules for the anomalous magnetic interactions of the [(3,\bar3)+(\bar3,3)] and the [(8,1)+(1,8)] baryon fields. Again, no diagonal and only one off-diagonal chiral SU_L(3)*SU_R(3) interaction of this type is allowed, that turns out also to conserve the U_A(1) symmetry. We calculate the F/D ratios for the baryons' anomalous magnetic moments predicted by these interactions in the SU(3) symmetry limit and find that only the [(6,3)+(3,6)]-[(3,\bar3)+(\bar3,3)] one, reproduces F/D=1/3, in close proximity to the value extracted from experiment.

Compositeness of dynamically generated states in a chiral unitary approach

The structure of dynamically generated states in the chiral unitary approach is studied from a viewpoint of their compositeness. We analyze the properties of bound states, virtual states, and resonances in a single-channel chiral unitary approach, paying attention to the energy dependence of the chiral interaction. We define the compositeness of a bound state using the field renormalization constant which is given by the overlap of the bare state and the physical state in the nonrelativistic quantum mechanics, or by the residue of the bound state propagator in the relativistic field theory. The field renormalization constant enables one to define a normalized quantitative measure of compositeness of the bound state. Applying this scheme to the chiral unitary approach, we find that the bound state generated by the energy-independent interaction is always a purely composite particle, while the energy-dependent chiral interaction introduces the elementary component, depending on the value of the cutoff parameter. This feature agrees with the analysis of the effective interaction by changing the cutoff parameter. A purely composite bound state can be realized by the chiral interaction only when the bound state lies at the threshold or when the strength of the two-body attractive interaction is infinitely large. The natural renormalization scheme, introduced by the property of the loop function and the matching with the chiral low-energy theorem, is shown to generate a bound state which is dominated by the composite structure when the binding energy is small.

In this talk, we report theoretical studies on the K*0 Sigma+(1190) photoproduction in the tree-level Born approximation, employing the effective Lagrangian method. We present the energy and angular dependences of the cross sections. It turns out that the N* and Delta* resonance contributions are negligible in the vicinity of the threshold. On the contrary, we observe that the kappa and K exchanges in the t channel and Delta(1232) in the s channel dominate the scattering process, reproducing the experimental data qualitatively well.

Decays and productions via bottomonium for Z_b resonances and other B anti-B molecules

We discuss decays and productions for the possible molecular states formed by bottom mesons B (B*) and anti-B (anti-B*). The twin resonances found by Belle, Zb(10610) and Zb(10650), are such candidates. The spin wave functions of the molecular states are rearranged into those of heavy and light spin degrees of freedom by using the re-coupling formulae of angular momentum. By applying the heavy quark symmetry we derive model independent relations among various decay and production rates, which can be tested in experiments.

Exotic mesons with double charm and bottom flavor

We study exotic mesons with double charm and bottom flavor, whose quark configuration is \bar{Q}\bar{Q}qq. This quark configuration has no annihilation process of quark and antiquark, and hence is a genuinely exotic states. We take a hadronic picture by considering the molecular states composed of a pair of heavy mesons, such as DD, DD* and D*D* for charm flavor, and BB, BB* and B*B* for bottom flavor. The interactions between heavy mesons are derived from the heavy quark effective theory. All molecular states are classified by I(J^P) quantum numbers, and are systematically studied up to the total angular momentum J \leq 2. By solving the coupled channel Schrodinger equations, due to the strong tensor force of one pion exchanging, we find bound and/or resonant states of various quantum numbers.

Exotic mesons with hidden bottom near thresholds

We study heavy hadron spectroscopy near open bottom thresholds. We employ B and B* mesons as effective degrees of freedom near the thresholds, and consider meson exchange potentials between them. All possible composite states which can be constructed from the B and B* mesons are studied up to the total angular momentum J = 0, 1, 2. We consider, as exotic states, isosinglet states with exotic (J,PC) quantum numbers and isotriplet states. We solve numerically the Schrodinger equation with channel-couplings for each state. The masses of twin resonances Zb(10608) and Zb(10653) recently found by Belle are reproduced. We predict several possible bound and/or resonant states in other channels for future experiments.

Thermodynamics of Quantum Ultra-cold Neutron Gas under Gravity of The Earth

The stored ultra-cold neutrons have been developed. A high density ultra-cold neutron gas has been recently produced by using the nuclear spallation method. We investigate the thermodynamic properties of the quantum ultra-cold neutron gas in the Earth's gravitational field. We find that the quantum effects increase temperature dependence of the chemical potential and the internal energy in the low temperature region. The density distribution of quantum ultra-cold neutron gas is modified by the Earth's gravitational field.

A Hidden Local Symmetry Approach to Rho Meson Photoproduction

We study photoproduction of rho mesons in a model of hidden local symmetry. The rho meson is introduced as a hidden gauge boson and a phenomenological rho meson-nucleon Lagrangian is constructed respecting chiral symmetry. It is shown that the sigma exchange interaction is needed for neutral rho meson photoproduction to reproduce the experimental cross sections. For charged rho meson photoproduction, the model takes into account the rho meson magnetic moments from the three-point vertex in the kinetic terms. We show that the magnetic moment of the charged rho meson has a significant effect on the total cross sections through the rho meson exchange process, which is proportional to the energy of the photon. The t-channel dominance may be used for the study of structures of various unstable particles.

Exotic baryons from a heavy meson and a nucleon -- Negative parity states --

We study heavy baryons with an exotic flavor quantum number formed by a heavy meson and a nucleon (Dbar-N and B-N) through a long range one pion exchange interaction. The bound state found previously in the (I,JP) =(0,1/2-) channel survives when short range interaction is included. In addition, we find a resonant state with (I,JP)=(0,3/2-) as a Feshbach resonance predominated by a heavy vector meson and a nucleon (Dbar*-N and B*-N). We find that these exotic states exist for the charm and heavier flavor region.

Hadron resonances with coexistence of different natures

We discuss coexistence/mixing of different natures of hadronic composite (molecule) and elementary (quark-intrinsic) ones in hadron resonances. The discussions here are based on our previous publications on the origin of hadron resonances \cite{Hyodo:2008xr}, exotic $\bar D$ meson-nucleons as hadronic composites containing one anti-heavy quark \cite{Yamaguchi:2011xb}, and the study of $a_1$ as a typical example to show explicitly the mixing of the two different natures \cite{Nagahiro:2011jn}. In all cases, interactions are derived from the chiral dynamics of the light flavor sector. These interactions generate in various cases hadronic composite/molecule states, serving varieties of structure beyond the conventional quark model.

Lambda(1405,1/2^-) photoproduction from the gamma p -> K^+ Lambda(1405) reaction

We investigate the photoproduction of Lambda(1405,1/2^-) = Lambda* off the proton target using the effective Lagrangian in the Born approximation. We observed that, depending on the choice of the K* N Lambda* coupling strength, the total cross section becomes 0.1 <~ sigma_Lambda* <~ 0.2 mu b near the threshold and starts to decrease beyond E_gamma ~ 1.6 GeV, and the angular dependence shows a mild enhancement in the forward direction. It turns out that the energy dependence of the total cross section is similar to that shown in the recent LEPS experiment. This suggests that the production mechanism of the Lambda* is dominated by the s-channel contribution.

Baryon Fields with U_L(3) \times U_R(3) Chiral Symmetry: Axial Currents of Nucleons and Hyperons

We use the conventional F and D octet and decimet generator matrices to reformulate chiral properties of local (non-derivative) and one-derivative non-local fields of baryons consisting of three quarks with flavor SU(3) symmetry that were expressed in SU(3) tensor form in Ref. [12]. We show explicitly the chiral transformations of the [(6,3)\oplus(3,6)] chiral multiplet in the "SU(3) particle basis", for the first time to our knowledge, as well as those of the (3,\bar{3}) \oplus (\bar{3}, 3), (8,1) \oplus (1,8) multiplets, which have been recorded before in Refs. [4,5]. We derive the vector and axial-vector Noether currents, and show explicitly that their zeroth (charge-like) components close the SU_L(3) \times SU_R(3) chiral algebra. We use these results to study the effects of mixing of (three-quark) chiral multiplets on the axial current matrix elements of hyperons and nucleons. We show, in particular, that there is a strong correlation, indeed a definite relation between the flavor-singlet (i.e. the zeroth), the isovector (the third) and the eighth flavor component of the axial current, which is in decent agreement with the measured ones.

Baryon Fields with U_L(3) times U_R(3) Chiral Symmetry III: Interactions with Chiral (3,3_bar)+(3_bar,3) Spinless Mesons

Three-quark nucleon interpolating fields in QCD have well-defined SU_L(3)*SU_R(3) and U_A(1) chiral transformation properties, viz. [(6,3)+(3,6)], [(3,3_bar)+(3_bar,3)], [(8,1)+(1,8)] and their "mirror" images, Ref.[9]. It has been shown (phenomenologically) in Ref.[3] that mixing of the [(6,3)+(3,6)] chiral multiplet with one ordinary ("naive") and one "mirror" field belonging to the [(3,3_bar)+(3_bar,3)], [(8,1)+(1,8)] multiplets can be used to fit the values of the isovector (g_A^3) and the flavor-singlet (isoscalar) axial coupling (g_A^0) of the nucleon and then predict the axial F and D coefficients, or vice versa, in reasonable agreement with experiment. In an attempt to derive such mixing from an effective Lagrangian, we construct all SU_L(3)*SU_R(3) chirally invariant non-derivative one-meson-baryon interactions and then calculate the mixing angles in terms of baryons' masses. It turns out that there are (strong) selection rules: for example, there is only one non-derivative chirally symmetric interaction between J=1/2 fields belonging to the [(6,3)+(3,6)] and the [(3,3_bar)+(3_bar,3)] chiral multiplets, that is also U_A(1) symmetric. We also study the chiral interactions of the [(3,3_bar)+(3_bar,3)] and [(8,1)+(1,8)] nucleon fields. Again, there are selection rules that allow only one off-diagonal non-derivative chiral SU_L(3)*SU_R(3) interaction of this type, that also explicitly breaks the U_A(1) symmetry. We use this interaction to calculate the corresponding mixing angles in terms of baryon masses and fit two lowest lying observed nucleon (resonance) masses, thus predicting the third (J=1/2, I=3/2) Delta resonance, as well as one or two flavor-singlet Lambda hyperon(s), depending on the type of mixing. The effective chiral Lagrangians derived here may be applied to high density matter calculations.

Compositeness of bound states in chiral unitary approach

We study the structure of dynamically generated bound states in the chiral unitary approach. The compositeness of a bound state is defined through the wavefunction renormalization constant in the nonrelativistic field theory. We apply this argument to the chiral unitary approach and derive the relation between compositeness of the bound state and the subtraction constant of the loop integral. The compositeness condition is fairly compatible with the natural renormalization scheme, previously introduced in a different context.

Light Scalar Meson sigma(600) in QCD Sum Rule with Continuum

The light scalar meson sigma(600) is known to appear at low excitation energy with very large width on top of continuum states. We investigate it in the QCD sum rule as an example of resonance structures appearing above the corresponding thresholds. We use all the possible local tetraquark currents by taking linear combinations of five independent local ones. We ought to consider the pi-pi continuum contribution in the phenomenological side of the QCD sum rule in order to obtain a good sum rule signal. We study the stability of the extracted mass against the Borel mass and the threshold value and find the sigma(600) mass at 530 MeV +- 40 MeV. In addition we find the extracted mass has an increasing tendency with the Borel mass, which is interpreted as caused by the width of the resonance.

Meson-baryon nature of Lambda(1405) in chiral dynamics

We present the recent progress in the study on the origin of baryon resonances in chiral dynamics. It is shown that in the chiral coupled-channel approach, the form of the interaction cannot be specified due to the cutoff of the loop integral. To avoid this ambiguity, we propose a natural renormalization scheme, which affords a clue to the origin of the resonance, together with the phenomenological fitting to experimental data. We study the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance in comparison with the N(1535).

Origin of resonances in chiral dynamics

The nature of baryon resonances is studied in the dynamical chiral coupled-channel approach for meson-baryon scattering. In general, origin of resonances in two-body scattering can be classified into two categories: dynamically generated states and genuine elementary particles. We demonstrate that the genuine contribution in the loop function can be excluded by adopting a natural renormalization scheme. The origin of resonances can be studied by looking at the effective interaction in the natural renormalization scheme, which is deduced from the phenomenological amplitude fitted to experimental data. Applying this method to the baryon resonances, we find that the dominant component for the Lambda(1405) resonance is dynamical, while a genuine contribution plays a substantial role for the structure of the N(1535).

Production of the pentaquark exotic baryon Xi_5 in bar{K} N scattering : bar{K} N -> K Xi_5 and bar{K} N -> K* Xi_5

We investigate the production of the newly found pentaquark exotic baryon Xi_5 in the bar{K} N -> K Xi_5 and the bar{K} N -> K* Xi_5 reactions at the tree level. We consider both positive- and negative parities of the Xi_5. The reactions are dominated by the s- and u-channel processes, and the resulting cross sections depend very much on the parity of Xi_5 and on the type of form factor. We have seen that the cross sections for the positive-parity Xi_5 are generally about a hundred times larger than those of the negative-parity one. This large difference in the cross sections will be useful for further study of pentaquark baryons.

A new nucleon resonance in eta photoproduction

We present in this talk recent investigations on the nucleon-like resonance N*(1675) newly found in eta photoproduction by the GRAAL, Tohoku LNS-gamma and CB-ELSA collaborations. We focus on the production mechanism of the N*(1675), examining its spin and parity theoretically within the framework of the effective Lagrangian method. We expliucitly consider D_{13}(1520), S_{11}(1535), S_{11}(1650), D_{15}(1675), P_{11}(1710), P_{13}(1720) as well as possible background contributions. We calculate the differential cross sections and beam asymmetries for the neutron and proton targets. It turns out that there is manifest isospin asymmetry in eta photoproduction, which can be explained by the asymmetry in the transition magnetic moments: mu_{gamma p p*} =<mu_{gamma n n*}. Moreover, we find that the spin-1/2 state is preferred and this observation implies that the new resonance may be identified as a non-strangeness member of the baryon antidecuplet.

Light Scalar Tetraquark Mesons in the QCD Sum Rule

We study the lowest-lying scalar mesons in the QCD sum rule by considering them as tetraquark states. We find that there are five independent currents for each state with a certain flavor structure. By forming linear combinations, we find that some mixed currents give reliable QCD sum rules. Among various tetraquark currents, we consider those which are constructed by the diquarks having anti-symmetric and symmetric flavor structures. That the results of the QCD sum rule derived from the two types of currents are similar suggests that the tetraquark states can have a large mixing between different flavor structures.

Determination of the parity of the pentaquark baryons : Theta^+ and Xi_5

We study determination of the parity of the pentaquark baryons in two different processes. First, we investigate the Theta^+ production via the vec{p} vec{p} -> Sigma^+ Theta^+ reaction process which was proposed to determine unambiguously the parity of Theta^+. We observe the clear differences in the total cross sections and the spin observable A_{xx}. As for the Xi_5 in the bar{K} N -> K Xi_5 reaction process, the total cross section for the positive parity presents about one hundred times lager than that of the negative one due to the huge destructive interference.

Phenomenological study of two-meson couplings of Theta+

We evaluate two-meson couplings of Theta+, using experimental information of nucleon resonances decaying into pi pi N channels, in which the two pions are in scalar- and vector-type correlations. We examine two assignments of spin and parity of J^P=1/2^+ and 3/2^-, for which the experimental spectra of known resonances with exotic baryons are properly reproduced by an octet-antidecuplet representation mixing scheme. With the obtained coupling constants, total cross sections of the reactions pi- p -> K- Theta+ and K+ p -> pi+ Theta+ are calculated. Probing chiral symmetry of nucleon by threshold $ηπ$ production

Double meson production of the eta and pion at the threshold region is investigated in order to determine chiral property of the nucleon. The eta can be used as a probe for the negative parity nucleon $N^* \equiv N^*(1535)$ produced in the intermediate state. The coupling of the low energy pion in the final state is then used to extract the sign of the Yukawa coupling, $\gpRR$, which distinguishes the two realizations of chiral symmetry, either naive or mirror, for the nucleon.
