A holography theory of Poisson sigma model and deformation quantization

We construct a Chern-Simons type of theory using the $l_\infty$ algebra encoded by a Poisson structure on arbitrary Riemann surfaces with boundaries. A deformation quantization within the Batalin-Vilkovisky framework is performed by constructing propagators with Dirichlet boundary condition on Fulton-MacPherson compactified configuration space. Our results show that the BV quantization is independent of several gauge choices in propagators, which leads to global observables that are candidates for geometric invariants of Poisson structure and topological invariants for the worldsheet structure. At the level of local observables, a Swiss-Cheese algebra structure has been identified. If the Poisson structure is symplectic, the two-dimensional theory is homotopic to a boundary theory. This is known in the classical case, and we confirm that the quantum homotopy exists as well.

On the homotopy theory for Lie $\infty$-groupoids, with an application to integrating $L_\infty$-algebras

Lie $\infty$-groupoids are simplicial Banach manifolds that satisfy an analog of the Kan condition for simplicial sets. An explicit construction of Henriques produces certain Lie $\infty$-groupoids called `Lie $\infty$-groups' by integrating finite type Lie $n$-algebras. In order to study the compatibility between this integration procedure and the homotopy theory of Lie $n$-algebras introduced in the companion paper arXiv:1809.05999, we present a homotopy theory for Lie $\infty$-groupoids. Unlike Kan simplicial sets and the higher geometric groupoids of Behrend and Getzler, Lie $\infty$-groupoids do not form a category of fibrant objects (CFO), since the category of manifolds lacks pullbacks. Instead, we show that Lie $\infty$-groupoids form an `incomplete category of fibrant objects' in which the weak equivalences correspond to `stalkwise' weak equivalences of simplicial sheaves. This homotopical structure enjoys many of the same properties as a CFO, such as having, in the presence of functorial path objects, a convenient realization of its simplicial localization. We further prove that the acyclic fibrations are precisely the hypercovers, which implies that many of Behrend and Getzler's results also hold in this more general context. As an application, we show that Henriques' integration functor is an exact functor with respect to a class of distinguished fibrations which we call `quasi-split fibrations'. Such fibrations include acyclic fibrations as well as fibrations that arise in string-like extensions. In particular, integration sends $L_\infty$ quasi-isomorphisms to weak equivalences, quasi-split fibrations to Kan fibrations, and preserves acyclic fibrations, as well as pullbacks of acyclic/quasi-split fibrations.

Fermion decoration construction of symmetry protected trivial orders for fermion systems with any symmetries $G_f$ and in any dimensions

We use higher dimensional bosonization and fermion decoration to construct exactly soluble interacting fermion models to realize fermionic symmetry protected trivial (SPT) orders (which are also known as symmetry protected topological orders) in any dimensions and for generic fermion symmetries $G_f$, which can be a non-trivial $Z_2^f$ extension (where $Z_2^f$ is the fermion-number-parity symmetry). This generalizes the previous results from group superconhomology of Gu and Wen (arXiv:1201.2648), where $G_f$ is assumed to be a trivial $Z_2^f$ extension. We find that the SPT phases from fermion decoration construction can be described in a compact way using higher groups.

Groupoids in categories with pretopology

We survey the general theory of groupoids, groupoid actions, groupoid principal bundles, and various kinds of morphisms between groupoids in the framework of categories with pretopology. We study extra assumptions on pretopologies that are needed for this theory. We check these extra assumptions in several categories with pretopologies. Functors between groupoids may be localised at equivalences in two ways. One uses spans of functors, the other bibundles (commuting actions) of groupoids. We show that both approaches give equivalent bicategories. Another type of groupoid morphisms, called actors, are closely related to functors between the categories of groupoid actions. We also generalise actors using bibundles, and show that this gives another bicategory of groupoids.

Integrating central extensions of Lie algebras via Lie 2-groups

The purpose of this paper is to show how central extensions of (possibly infinite-dimensional) Lie algebras integrate to central extensions of étale Lie 2-groups. In finite dimensions, central extensions of Lie algebras integrate to central extensions of Lie groups, a fact which is due to the vanishing of π_2 for each finite-dimensional Lie group. This fact was used by Cartan (in a slightly other guise) to construct the simply connected Lie group associated to each finite-dimensional Lie algebra. In infinite dimensions, there is an obstruction for a central extension of Lie algebras to integrate to a central extension of Lie groups. This obstruction comes from non-trivial π_2 for general Lie groups. We show that this obstruction may be overcome by integrating central extensions of Lie algebras not to Lie groups but to central extensions of étale Lie 2-groups. As an application, we obtain a generalization of Lie's Third Theorem to infinite-dimensional Lie algebras.

Some remarks on representations up to homotopy

Motivated by the study of the interrelation between functorial and algebraic quantum field theory, we point out that on any locally trivial bundle of compact groups, representations up to homotopy are enough to separate points by means of the associated representations in cohomol- ogy. Furthermore, we observe that the derived representation category of any compact group is equivalent to the category of ordinary (finite- dimensional) representations of the group.

Distributions and quotients on degree 1 NQ-manifolds and Lie algebroids

It is well-known that a Lie algebroid A is equivalently described by a degree 1 Q-manifold M. We study distributions on M, giving a characterization in terms of A. We show that involutive Q-invariant distributions on M correspond bijectively to IM-foliations on A (the infinitesimal version of Mackenzie's ideal systems). We perform reduction by such distributions, and investigate how they arise from non-strict actions of strict Lie 2-algebras on M.

Higher Lie algebra actions on Lie algebroids

We consider a simple instance of action up to homotopy. More precisely, we consider strict actions of DGLAs in degrees -1 and 0 on degree 1 NQ-manifolds. In a more conventional language this means: strict actions of Lie algebra crossed modules on Lie algebroids. When the action is strict, we show that it integrates to group actions in the categories of Lie algebroids and Lie groupoids (i.e. actions of LA-groups and 2-groups). We perform the integration in the framework of Mackenzie's doubles.

Integration of Lie 2-algebras and their morphisms

Given a strict Lie 2-algebra, we can integrate it to a strict Lie 2-group by integrating the corresponding Lie algebra crossed module. On the other hand, the integration procedure of Getzler and Henriques will also produce a 2-group. In this paper, we show that these two integration results are Morita equivalent. As an application, we integrate a non-strict morphism between Lie algebra crossed modules to a generalized morphism between their corresponding Lie group crossed modules.

Omni-Lie 2-algebras and their Dirac structures

We introduce the notion of omni-Lie 2-algebra, which is a categorification of Weinstein's omni-Lie algebras. We prove that there is a one-to-one correspondence between strict Lie 2-algebra structures on 2-sub-vector spaces of a 2-vector space $\V$ and Dirac structures on the omni-Lie 2-algebra $ \gl(\V)\oplus \V $. In particular, strict Lie 2-algebra structures on $\V$ itself one-to-one correspond to Dirac structures of the form of graphs. Finally, we introduce the notion of twisted omni-Lie 2-algebra to describe (non-strict) Lie 2-algebra structures. Dirac structures of a twisted omni-Lie 2-algebra correspond to certain (non-strict) Lie 2-algebra structures, which include string Lie 2-algebra structures.

Lie algebroid Fibrations

A degree 1 non-negative graded super manifold equipped with a degree 1 vector field Q satisfying [Q, Q]=1, namely a so-called NQ-1 manifold is, in plain differential geometry language, a Lie algebroid. We introduce a notion of fibration for such super manifols, that essentially involves a complete Ehresmann connection. As it is the case for Lie algebras, such fibrations turn out not to be just locally trivial products. We also define homotopy groups and prove the expected long exact sequence associated to a fibration. In particular, Crainic and Fernandes's obstruction to the integrability of Lie algebroids is interpreted as the image of a transgression map in this long exact sequence.

Lie II theorem for Lie algebroids via higher groupoids

Following Sullivan's spacial realization of a differential algebra, we construct a universal integrating Lie 2-groupoid for every Lie algebroid. Then We show that unlike Lie algebras which one-to-one correspond to simply connected Lie groups, Lie algebroids (integrable or not) one-to-one correspond to a sort of etale Lie 2-groupoids with 2-connected source fibres. Finally, we discuss how to lift Lie algebroid morphisms to Lie 2-groupoid morphisms (Lie II Theorem).

A higher category approach to twisted actions on C*-algebras

C*-algebras form a 2-category with \Star{}homomorphisms or correspondences as morphisms and unitary intertwiners as 2-morphisms. We use this structure to define weak actions of 2-categories, weakly equivariant maps between weak actions, and modifications between weakly equivariant maps. In the group case, we identify the resulting notions with known ones, including Busby-Smith twisted actions and equivalence of such actions, covariant representations, and saturated Fell bundles. For 2-groups, weak actions combine twists in the sense of Green and Busby-Smith. The Packer-Raeburn Stabilisation Trick implies that all Busby-Smith twisted group actions of locally compact groups are Morita equivalent to classical group actions. We generalise this to actions of strict 2-groupoids.

Hopfish algebras

We introduce a notion of "hopfish algebra" structure on an associative algebra, allowing the structure morphisms (coproduct, counit, antipode) to be bimodules rather than algebra homomorphisms. We prove that quasi-Hopf algebras are examples of hopfish algebras. We find that a hopfish structure on the commutative algebra of functions on a finite set G is closely related to a "hypergroupoid" structure on G. The Morita theory of hopfish algebras is also discussed.
