The νν EYE Neutrino Telescope: Conceptual Design Report

The {νEYE\bfνEYE} (``new eye'', Neutrino Experiment at YEmilab, \href{https://sites.google.com/korea.ac.kr/the-nueye-telescope} {\tt nuEYE.korea.ac.kr}) neutrino project leverages the existing large pit at Yemilab located in South Korea, to reveal the existence of sterile neutrino, the up-turn of the neutrinos from the Sun, and the first minimum of the neutrino oscillation over distances on the order of tens of kilometers for the first time. This initiative is expected to facilitate a wide range of significant scientific and technological advancements within both South Korean and international communities engaged in neutrino science and technology. The {νEYE\bfνEYE} aims to investigate the largely unexplored sector of almost-massless lepton in the elementary particle physics in detail. The emphasis will be placed on the study of real time nuclear processes and reactions involving possible sterile neutrinos on timescales down to nanoseconds in ultra-high intense or radioactive neutrino beams for the first time in the world; the {νEYE\bfνEYE} looks at to-be universal oscillation (``up-turn'' in the electron neutrino survival probability) of neutrinos predicted by the three neutrino oscillation paradigm. This will confirm or deny our current understanding on the particle interactions of the lepton sector; and measurement of the first oscillation minimum between the first and second neutrinos in mass.

Fast DAQ system with image rejection for axion dark matter searches

A fast data acquisition (DAQ) system for axion dark matter searches utilizing a microwave resonant cavity, also known as axion haloscope searches, has been developed with a two-channel digitizer that can sample 16-bit amplitudes at rates up to 180 MSamples/s. First, we realized a practical DAQ efficiency of greater than 99% for a single DAQ channel, where the DAQ process includes the online fast Fourier transforms (FFTs). Using an IQ mixer and two parallel DAQ channels, we then also implemented a software-based image rejection without losing the DAQ efficiency. This work extends our continuing effort to improve the figure of merit in axion haloscope searches, the scanning rate.

Angular analysis of B0→K∗(892)0ℓ+ℓ−B^0 \to K^\ast(892)^0 \ell^+ \ell^-

We present a measurement of angular observables, P4′P_4', P5′P_5', P6′P_6', P8′P_8', in the decay B0→K∗(892)0ℓ+ℓ−B^0 \to K^\ast(892)^0 \ell^+ \ell^-, where ℓ+ℓ−\ell^+\ell^- is either e+e−e^+e^- or μ+μ−μ^+μ^-. The analysis is performed on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 711 fb−1711~\mathrm{fb}^{-1} containing 772×106772\times 10^{6} BBˉB\bar B pairs, collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider KEKB. Four angular observables, P4,5,6,8′P_{4,5,6,8}' are extracted in five bins of the invariant mass squared of the lepton system, q2q^2. We compare our results for P4,5,6,8′P_{4,5,6,8}' with Standard Model predictions including the q2q^2 region in which the LHCb collaboration reported the so-called P5′P_5' anomaly.

Axion Haloscopes with Toroidal Geometry at CAPP/IBS

The present state of the art axion haloscope employs a cylindrical resonant cavity in a solenoidal field. We, the Center for Axion and Precision Physics Research (CAPP) of the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in Korea, are also pursuing halo axion discovery using this cylindrical geometry. However, the presence of end caps of cavities increases challenges as we explore higher frequency regions for the axion at above 2 GHz. To overcome these challenges we exploit a toroidal design of cavity and magnetic field. A toroidal geometry offers several advantages, two of which are a larger volume for a given space and greatly reduced fringe fields which interfere with our preamps, in particular the planned quantum-based devices. We introduce the concept of toroidal axion haloscopes and present ongoing research activities and plans at CAPP/IBS.

Electric and magnetic energy at axion haloscopes

We review a recent letter published in Phys. Rev. Lett. 116\textbf{116}, 161804 (2016) of which the main argument is that the mode dependent magnetic form factors at axion haloscopes depend on the position of the cavity inside the solenoid while the corresponding electric form factors do not. We, however, find no such dependence, which is also equivalent to the statement that the electric and corresponding magnetic energy stored in the cavity modes are the same regardless of the position of the cavity inside the solenoid. Furthermore, we extend the statement to the cases satisfying ∇⃗×B⃗external=0\vec{\nabla}\times\vec{B}_{\rm external}=0, where B⃗external\vec{B}_{\rm external} is a static magnetic field provided by a magnet at an axion haloscope. Two typical magnets, solenoidal and toroidal, satisfy ∇⃗×B⃗external=0\vec{\nabla}\times\vec{B}_{\rm external}=0, thus the electric and corresponding magnetic energy stored in the cavity modes are always the same in both cases. The energy, however, is independent of the position of the cavity in axion haloscopes with a solenoid, but depends on those with a toroidal magnet.

Evidence for the decay B0→ηηB^{0}\to ηη

We report a search for B0→ηηB^{0}\to ηη with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 698 fb−1698 \,{\rm fb}^{-1} containing 753×106753 \times 10^{6} BBˉB\bar{B} pairs collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^{+}e^{-} collider. The branching fraction is measured to be B(B0→ηη)=(7.6−2.3−1.6+2.7+1.4)×10−7\mathcal{B}(B^{0} \to ηη) = (7.6^{+2.7 +1.4}_{-2.3 -1.6}) \times 10^{-7} at the level of 3.3 standard deviations above zero, which provides the first evidence for the decay B0→ηηB^{0} \to ηη.

Inclusive and exclusive measurements of BB decays to χc1χ_{c1} and χc2χ_{c2} at Belle

We report inclusive and exclusive measurements for χc1χ_{c1} and χc2χ_{c2} production in BB decays. We measure B(B→χc1X)\mathcal{B}(B \to χ_{c1} X)= $(3.03 \pm 0.05(\mbox{stat}) \pm 0.24(\mbox{syst})) \times 10^{-3}$ and B(B→χc2X)\mathcal{B}(B \to χ_{c2} X)= $(0.70 \pm 0.06(\mbox{stat}) \pm 0.10(\mbox{syst})) \times 10^{-3}$. For the first time, χc2χ_{c2} production in exclusive BB decays in the modes B0→χc2π−K+B^0 \to χ_{c2}π^- K^+ and B+→χc2π+π−K+B^+ \to χ_{c2} π^+ π^- K^+ has been observed, along with first evidence for the B+→χc2π+KS0B^+ \to χ_{c2} π^+ K_S^0 decay mode. For χc1χ_{c1} production, we report the first observation in the B+→χc1π+π−K+B^+ \to χ_{c1} π^+ π^- K^+, B0→χc1π+π−KS0B^0 \to χ_{c1} π^+ π^- K_S^0 and B0→χc1π0π−K+B^0 \to χ_{c1} π^0 π^- K^+ decay modes. Using these decay modes, we observe a difference in the production mechanism of χc2χ_{c2} in comparison to χc1χ_{c1} in BB decays. In addition, we report searches for X(3872)X(3872) and χc1(2P)χ_{c1}(2P) in the B+→(χc1π+π−)K+B^+ \to (χ_{c1} π^+ π^-) K^+ decay mode. The reported results use 772×106772 \times 10^{6} BB‾B\overline{B} events collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider.

Measurement of CPCP asymmetry in the D0→KS0KS0D^{0} \to K^0_S K^0_S decay at Belle

We report a measurement of the time-integrated CPCP asymmetry in the neutral charm meson decay D0→KS0KS0D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S using 921~fb−1^{-1} data collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) and Υ(5S)Υ(5S) resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider. The observed asymmetry is ACP(D0→KS0KS0)=(−0.02±1.53±0.17)%, A_{CP}(D^0 \to K^0_S K^0_S) = (-0.02 \pm 1.53 \pm 0.17) \%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This latter uncertainty is dominated by the error of the normalisation channel. The result is consistent with Standard Model expectations and improves the uncertainty with respect to previous measurement of this quantity by more than a factor of three.

Measurement of e+e−→π+π−ψ(2S)e^+e^- \to π^+π^-ψ(2S) via Initial State Radiation at Belle

We report measurement of the cross section of e+e−→π+π−ψ(2S)e^+e^-\to π^+π^-ψ(2S) between 4.0 and 5.5GeV5.5 {\rm GeV}, based on an analysis of initial state radiation events in a 980fb−1980 \rm fb^{-1} data sample recorded with the Belle detector. The properties of the Y(4360)Y(4360) and Y(4660)Y(4660) states are determined. Fitting the mass spectrum of π+π−ψ(2S)π^+π^-ψ(2S) with two coherent Breit-Wigner functions, we find two solutions with identical mass and width but different couplings to electron-positron pairs: MY(4360)=(4347±6±3)MeV/c2M_{Y(4360)} = (4347\pm 6\pm 3) {\rm MeV}/c^2, ΓY(4360)=(103±9±5)MeVΓ_{Y(4360)} = (103\pm 9\pm 5) {\rm MeV}, MY(4660)=(4652±10±8)MeV/c2M_{Y(4660)} = (4652\pm10\pm 8) {\rm MeV}/c^2, ΓY(4660)=(68±11±1)MeVΓ_{Y(4660)} = (68\pm 11\pm 1) \rm MeV; and B[Y(4360)→π+π−ψ(2S)]⋅ΓY(4360)e+e−=(10.9±0.6±0.7)eV{\cal{B}}[Y(4360)\to π^+π^-ψ(2S)]\cdot Γ_{Y(4360)}^{e^+e^-} = (10.9\pm 0.6\pm 0.7) \rm eV and B[Y(4660)→π+π−ψ(2S)]⋅ΓY(4660)e+e−=(8.1±1.1±0.5)eV{\cal{B}}[Y(4660)\to π^+π^-ψ(2S)]\cdot Γ_{Y(4660)}^{e^+e^-} = (8.1\pm 1.1\pm 0.5) \rm eV for one solution; or B[Y(4360)→π+π−ψ(2S)]⋅ΓY(4360)e+e−=(9.2±0.6±0.6)eV{\cal{B}}[Y(4360)\to π^+π^-ψ(2S)]\cdot Γ_{Y(4360)}^{e^+e^-} = (9.2\pm 0.6\pm 0.6) \rm eV and B[Y(4660)→π+π−ψ(2S)]⋅ΓY(4660)e+e−=(2.0±0.3±0.2)eV{\cal{B}}[Y(4660)\to π^+π^-ψ(2S)]\cdot Γ_{Y(4660)}^{e^+e^-} = (2.0\pm 0.3\pm 0.2) \rm eV for the other. Here, the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. Evidence for a charged charmoniumlike structure at 4.05GeV/c24.05 {\rm GeV}/c^2 is observed in the π±ψ(2S)π^{\pm}ψ(2S) intermediate state in the Y(4360)Y(4360) decays.

Measurement of the Lepton Forward-Backward Asymmetry in B→Xsℓ+ℓ−B \rightarrow X_s \ell^+ \ell^- Decays with a Sum of Exclusive Modes

We report the first measurement of the lepton forward-backward asymmetry AFB{\cal A}_{\rm FB} as a function of the squared four-momentum of the dilepton system, q2q^2, for the electroweak penguin process B→Xsℓ+ℓ−B \rightarrow X_s \ell^+ \ell^- with a sum of exclusive final states, where ℓ\ell is an electron or a muon and XsX_s is a hadronic recoil system with an ss quark. The results are based on a data sample containing 772×106772\times10^6 BBˉB\bar{B} pairs recorded at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e−e^+ e^- collider. AFB{\cal A}_{\rm FB} for the inclusive B→Xsℓ+ℓ−B \rightarrow X_s \ell^+ \ell^- is extrapolated from the sum of 10 exclusive XsX_s states whose invariant mass is less than 2 GeV/c2c^2. For q2>10.2q^2 > 10.2 GeV2^2/c2c^2, AFB<0{\cal A}_{\rm FB} < 0 is excluded at the 2.3σσ level, where σσ is the standard deviation. For q2<4.3q^2 < 4.3 GeV2^2/c2c^2, the result is within 1.8σσ of the Standard Model theoretical expectation.

Observation of Transverse Λ/ΛˉΛ/\barΛ Hyperon Polarization in e+e−e^+e^- Annihilation at Belle

We report the first observation of the polarization of Λ/ΛˉΛ/\barΛ hyperons transverse to its production plane in e+e−e^+e^- annihilation. We observe a significant polarization that rises with the fractional energy carried by the hyperon as well as its transverse momentum. To define the production plane, we use the direction of the hyperon momentum together with either the thrust axis in the event or the momentum vector of a hadron in the opposite hemisphere. Furthermore, we investigate the contributions to the hyperon polarization from the feed-down from Σ0/Σˉ0Σ^0/\barΣ^0 and Λc±Λ_c^{\pm} decays. This measurement uses a dataset of 800.4fb−1^{-1} collected by the Belle experiment at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV.

Study of χ_{bJ}(1P) Properties in the Radiative Υ(2S) Decays

We report a study of radiative decays of χ_{bJ}(1P)(J=0,1,2) mesons into 74 hadronic final states comprising charged and neutral pions, kaons, protons; out of these, 41 modes are observed with at least 5 standard deviation significance. Our measurements not only improve the previous measurements by the CLEO Collaboration but also lead to first observations in many new modes. The large sample allows us to probe the total decay width of the χ_{b0}(1P). In the absence of a statistically significant result, a 90% confidence-level upper limit is set on the width at Γ_{total}< 2.4 MeV. Our results are based on 24.7 fb^{-1} of e+e- collision data recorded by the Belle detector at the Υ(2S) resonance, corresponding to (157.8\pm3.6)\times10^6 Υ(2S) decays.

Evidence for the decay B0->eta pi^0

We report a search for the charmless hadronic decay B0→ηπ0B^0\toηπ^0 with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 694 fb−1\rm fb^{-1} containing 753×106753\times10^6 BBˉB\bar{B} pairs. The data were collected by the Belle experiment running on the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance at the KEKB e+e−e^+e^- collider. We measure a branching fraction B(B0→ηπ0)=(4.1−1.5−0.7+1.7+0.5)×10−7\mathcal{B}(B^0\toηπ^0)=(4.1^{+1.7+0.5}_{-1.5-0.7})\times 10^{-7}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Our measurement gives an upper limit of B(B0→ηπ0)<6.5×10−7\mathcal{B}(B^0\toηπ^0)<6.5\times 10^{-7} at 90\% confidence level. The signal has a significance of 3.03.0 standard deviations and constitutes the first evidence for this decay mode.

First Observation of CP Violation in B0->D(*)CP h0 Decays by a Combined Time-Dependent Analysis of BaBar and Belle Data

We report a measurement of the time-dependent CP asymmetry of B0->D(*)CP h0 decays, where the light neutral hadron h0 is a pi0, eta or omega meson, and the neutral D meson is reconstructed in the CP eigenstates K+ K-, K0S pi0 or K0S omega. The measurement is performed combining the final data samples collected at the Y(4S) resonance by the BaBar and Belle experiments at the asymmetric-energy B factories PEP-II at SLAC and KEKB at KEK, respectively. The data samples contain ( 471 +/- 3 ) x 10^6 BB pairs recorded by the BaBar detector and ( 772 +/- 11 ) x 10^6, BB pairs recorded by the Belle detector. We measure the CP asymmetry parameters -eta_f S = +0.66 +/- 0.10 (stat.) +/- 0.06 (syst.) and C = -0.02 +/- 0.07 (stat.) +/- 0.03 (syst.). These results correspond to the first observation of CP violation in B0->D(*)CP h0 decays. The hypothesis of no mixing-induced CP violation is excluded in these decays at the level of 5.4 standard deviations.

Measurement of e+e−→γχcJe^+e^- \to γχ_{cJ} via initial state radiation at Belle

The process e+e−→γχcJe^+e^- \to γχ_{cJ} (JJ=1, 2) is studied via initial state radiation using 980 fb−1^{-1} of data at and around the Υ(nS)Υ(nS) (nn=1, 2, 3, 4, 5) resonances collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider. Measurement of Azimuthal Modulations in the Cross-Section of Di-Pion Pairs in Di-Jet Production from Electron-Positron Annihilation

We present an extraction of azimuthal correlations between two pairs of charged pions detected in opposite jets from electron-positron annihilation. These correlations may arise from the dependence of the di-pion fragmentation on the polarization of the parent quark in the process e+e−→qqˉe^+e^- \rightarrow q \bar{q}. Due to the correlation of the quark polarizations, the cross-section of di-pion pair production, in which the pion pairs are detected in opposite jets in a dijet event, exhibits a modulation in the azimuthal angles of the planes containing the hadron pairs with respect to the production plane. The measurement of this modulation allows access to combinations of fragmentation functions that are sensitive to the quark's transverse polarization and helicity. Within our uncertainties we do not observe a significant signal from the previously unmeasured helicity dependent fragmentation function G1⊥G_1^\perp. This measurement uses a dataset of 938~fb−1^{-1} collected by the Belle experiment at or near s≈10.58\sqrt{s}\approx10.58 GeV.

Measurement of the amplitude ratio of B0→D0K∗0B^0 \to D^0K^{*0} and B0→D0ˉK∗0B^0 \to \bar{D^0}K^{*0} decays with a model-independent Dalitz plot analysis using D→KS0π+π−D\to K_S^0π^+π^- decays

We report a measurement of the amplitude ratio rSr_S of B0→D0K∗0B^0 \to D^0K^{*0} and B0→D0ˉK∗0B^0 \to \bar{D^0}K^{*0} decays with a model-independent Dalitz plot analysis using D→KS0π+π−D\to K_S^0π^+π^- decays. Using the full data sample of 772×106772\times10^6 BBˉB\bar{B} pairs collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB accelerator the upper limit is rS<0.87r_S < 0.87 at the 68 % confidence level. This result is the first measurement of rSr_S with a model-independent Dalitz analysis, and is consistent with results from other analyses. The value of rSr_S indicates the sensitivity of the decay to ϕ3ϕ_3 because the statistical uncertainty is proportional to 1/rS1/r_S. The rSr_S result is obtained from observables (x±x_\pm, y±y_\pm) \begin{eqnarray} x_- &=& +0.4 ^{+1.0 +0.0}_{-0.6 -0.1} \pm0.0 \\ y_- &=& -0.6 ^{+0.8 +0.1}_{-1.0 -0.0} \pm0.1 \\ x_+ &=& +0.1 ^{+0.7 +0.0}_{-0.4 -0.1} \pm0.1 \\ y_+ &=& +0.3 ^{+0.5 +0.0}_{-0.8 -0.1} \pm0.1 \\ , \end{eqnarray} where x±=rScos⁡(δS±ϕ3)x_\pm = r_S \cos(δ_S \pm ϕ_3), y±=rSsin⁡(δS±ϕ3)y_\pm = r_S \sin(δ_S \pm ϕ_3) and ϕ3(δS)ϕ_3 (δ_S) are the weak (strong) phase difference between B0→D0K∗0B^0 \to D^0K^{*0} and B0→D0ˉK∗0B^0 \to \bar{D^0}K^{*0}. The first uncertainty is statistical, the second is the experimental systematic and the third is the systematic due to the uncertainties on cic_i and sis_i parameters measured by CLEO.

We report results on studies of the e+e- annihilation into three-body Y(nS)pi+pi- (n=1,2,3) final states including measurements of cross sections and the full amplitude analysis. The cross sections measured at sqrt(s)=10.865 GeV and corrected for the initial state radiation are sigma(e+e-=>Y(1S)pi+pi-)=(2.27+-0.12+-0.14) pb, sigma(e+e-=>Y(2S)pi+pi-)=(4.07+-0.16+-0.45) pb, and sigma(e+e-=>Y(3S)pi+pi-)=(1.46+-0.09+-0.16) pb. For the CP violating parameters, we obtain A(B0 -> omega KS) = -0.36 +/- 0.19 (stat) +/- 0.05 (syst), S(B0 -> omega KS) = +0.91 +/- 0.32 (stat) +/- 0.05 (syst), A(B- -> omega K-) = -0.03 +/- 0.04 (stat) +/- 0.01 syst), where A and S represent the direct and mixing-induced CP asymmetry, respectively. We find no evidence of CP violation in the decay channel B-->omega K-; however, we obtain the first evidence of CP violation in the B0 -> omega KS decay channel at the level of 3.1 standard deviations.

We obtain the branching fractions B(B±→J/ψηK±)=(1.27±0.11(stat.)±0.11(syst.))×10−4{\cal B}(B^{\pm}\rightarrow J/ψηK^{\pm})=(1.27\pm 0.11{\rm (stat.)\pm 0.11{\rm (syst.)})}\times10^{-4} and B(B0→J/ψηKS0)=(5.22±0.78(stat.)±0.49(syst.))×10−5{\cal B}(B^0\to J/ψηK^0_S)=(5.22 \pm 0.78 {\rm(stat.)} \pm 0.49{\rm(syst.)})\times10^{-5}. We search for a new narrow charmonium(-like) state XX in the J/ψηJ/ψη mass spectrum and find no significant excess. We set upper limits on the product of branching fractions, B(B±→XK±)B(X→J/ψη){\cal B}(B^\pm \to XK^\pm){\cal B}(X \to J/ψη), at 3872 MeV/c2/c^2 where a CC-odd partner of X(3872) may exist, at ψ(4040)ψ(4040) and ψ(4160)ψ(4160) assuming their known mass and width, and over a range from 3.8 to 4.8 GeV/c2/c^2. % at a 5 MeV/c2/c^2 step. Measurement of the Bˉ→Xsγ\bar{B} \rightarrow X_s γ Branching Fraction with a Sum of Exclusive Decays

We use 772×106\times 10^6 BBˉB \bar{B} meson pairs collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector to measure the branching fraction for Bˉ→Xsγ\bar{B} \rightarrow X_s γ. Our measurement uses a sum-of-exclusives approach in which 38 of the hadronic final states with strangeness equal to +1+1, denoted by XsX_s, are reconstructed. The inclusive branching fraction for MXs<M_{X_s}< 2.8 GeV/c2c^2, which corresponds to a minimum photon energy of 1.9 GeV, is measured to be B(Bˉ→Xsγ)=(3.51±0.17±0.33)×10−4{\cal B}(\bar{B} \rightarrow X_s γ)=(3.51\pm0.17\pm0.33)\times10^{-4}, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.

The number of Lambda_c+ baryons is determined by reconstructing the recoiling D(*)- anti-p pi+ system in events of the type e+e- -> D(*)- anti-p pi+ Lambda_c+. The branching fraction is measured to be Br(Lambda_c+ -> p K- pi+) = (6.84 +- 0.24^{+0.21}_{-0.27})%, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Measurement of the branching fraction of B+→τ+ντB^+ \to τ^+ ν_τ decays with the semileptonic tagging method and the full Belle data sample

We report a measurement of the branching fraction of B+→τ+ντB^+ \to τ^+ ν_τ decays using a data sample of 772×106BBˉ772 \times 10^6 B \bar{B} pairs, collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider. Measurement of the inclusive semileptonic branching fraction B(Bs0→X−ℓ+νℓ)\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \rightarrow X^- \ell^+ ν_\ell) at Belle

We report a measurement of the inclusive semileptonic Bs0B_s^0 branching fraction in a 121 fb−1121~fb^{-1} data sample collected near the Υ(5S)Υ(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+e−e^+ e^- collider. Events containing Bs0B_s^0 pairs are selected by reconstructing a tag side Ds+D_s^+ and identifying a signal side lepton ℓ+\ell^+ (ℓ=e,μ\ell = e, μ) that is required to have the same-sign charge to ensure that both originate from different Bs0B_s^0 mesons. The Bs0→X−ℓ+νℓB_s^0 \rightarrow X^- \ell^+ ν_\ell branching fraction is extracted from the ratio of the measured yields of Ds+D_s^+ mesons and Ds+ℓ+D_s^+ \ell^+ pairs and the known production and branching fractions. The inclusive semileptonic branching fraction is measured to be [9.6±0.4(stat)±0.7(syst)] %[9.6 \pm 0.4\text{(stat)} \pm 0.7\text{(syst)}]~\%.

We also measure the longitudinal polarization fraction fLf_L in B0→ϕK∗(892)0B^0 \to ϕK^{*}(892)^{0} and B0→ϕK2∗(1430)0B^0 \to ϕK^{*}_{2}(1430)^{0} decays to be 0.499±0.030±0.0180.499 \pm 0.030 \pm 0.018 and 0.918−0.060+0.029±0.0120.918 ^{+0.029}_{-0.060} \pm 0.012, respectively. Evidence for Semileptonic B- to p pbar l nubar Decays

We find evidence for the semileptonic baryonic decay B−→ppˉℓ−νˉℓB^-\to p\bar p\ell^-\barν_\ell (ℓ=e,μ\ell=e,μ), based on a data sample of 772 million BBˉB\bar B pairs collected at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider. A neural-network based hadronic BB-meson tagging method is used in this study. The branching fraction of B−→ppˉℓ−νˉℓB^-\to p\bar p\ell^-\barν_\ell is measured to be (5.8−2.1+2.4(stat.)±0.9(syst.))×10−6(5.8^{+2.4}_{-2.1}\textrm{(stat.)}\pm 0.9\textrm{(syst.)})\times 10^{-6} with a significance of 3.2σσ, where lepton universality is assumed. We also estimate the corresponding upper limit: B(B−→ppˉℓ−νˉℓ)<9.6×10−6\mathcal{B}(B^-\to p\bar p\ell^-\barν_\ell) < 9.6\times 10^{-6} at the 90% confidence level. This measurement helps constrain the baryonic transition form factor in B decays.

High-statistics study of K^0_S pair production in two-photon collisions

We report a high-statistics measurement of the differential cross section of the process gamma gamma --> K^0_S K^0_S in the range 1.05 GeV <= W <= 4.00 GeV, where W is the center-of-mass energy of the colliding photons, using 972 fb^{-1} of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+ e^- collider operated at and near the Upsilon-resonance region. The differential cross section is fitted by parameterized S-, D_0-, D_2-, G_0- and G_2-wave amplitudes. In the D_2 wave, the f_2(1270), a_2(1320) and f_2'(1525) are dominant and a resonance, the f_2(2200), is also present. The f_0(1710) and possibly the f_0(2500) are seen in the S wave. The mass, total width and product of the two-photon partial decay width and decay branching fraction to the K bar{K} state Gamma_{gamma gamma}B(K bar{K}) are extracted for the f_2'(1525), f_0(1710), f_2(2200) and f_0(2500). The destructive interference between the f_2(1270) and a_2(1320) is confirmed by measuring their relative phase. The parameters of the charmonium states chi_{c0} and chi_{c2} are updated. Possible contributions from the chi_{c0}(2P) and chi_{c2}(2P) states are discussed. A new upper limit for the branching fraction of the P- and CP-violating decay channel eta_c --> K^0_S K^0_S is reported. The detailed behavior of the cross section is updated and compared with QCD-based calculations.

Measurement of Branching Fraction and First Evidence of CP Violation in B0 --> a1+-(1260) pi-+ Decays

The results are obtained from the final data sample containing 772x10^6 BBbar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider. We also measure an upper limit on the product branching fraction for a possible decay with the same final state B0 --> a_2^+-(1320) pi^-+. In a time-dependent measurement to extract CP asymmetries, we find evidence of mixing-induced CP violation in B0 --> a_1^+-(1260) pi^-+ decays with a 3.1 sigma significance and the rate where the a_1^+-(1260) does not contain the spectator quark is found to dominate the rate where it does at the 4.1 sigma level. The result for the mean lifetime, based on 711 fb−1711\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1} of data collected with the Belle detector at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance and 60 MeV60\,\mathrm{MeV} below, is τ=(290.17±0.53(stat.)±0.33(syst.))⋅10−15 sτ= (290.17 \pm 0.53(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.33(\mathrm{syst.}))\cdot10^{-15}\,\mathrm{s}. We report a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay Bs0→J/ψ ϕ(1020)B^0_s\to J/ψ\,ϕ(1020), evidence and a branching fraction measurement for Bs0→J/ψ f2′(1525)B^0_s\to J/ψ\,f'_2(1525), and the determination of the total Bs0→J/ψ K+K−B^0_s\to J/ψ\,K^+K^- branching fraction, including the resonant and non-resonant contributions to the K+K−K^+K^- channel. Measurements of Branching Fractions and Direct CP Asymmetries for B -> K pi, B->pi pi and B->to KK Decays

We report measurements of the branching fractions and direct CP asymmetries (A_{CP}) for B->K pi, pi pi and KK decays (but not pi^0 pi^0) based on the final data sample of 772x10^6 B B-bar pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+ e^- collider. We set a 90% confidence-level upper limit for K^+- K^-+ at 2.0x10^{-7}; all other decays are observed with branching fractions ranging from 10^{-6} to 10^{-5}. In the $B^0/B^0-bar -> K^+-π^-+ mode, we confirm Belle's previously reported large A_{CP} with a value of -0.069 +- 0.014 +- 0.007 and a significance of 4.4 sigma. For all other flavor-specific modes, we find A_{CP} values consistent with zero, including A_{CP}(K^+- π^0) = +0.043 +- 0.024 +- 0.007 with 1.8 sigma significance. The difference of CP asymmetry between B^+- -> K^+- pi^0 and B^0/B^0-bar -> K^+-π^-+ is found to be Delta A_{K pi} equiv A_{CP} (K^+ pi^0) - A_{CP}(K^+ pi^-) = +0.112 +- 0.027 +- 0.007 with 4.0 sigma significance. We also calculate the ratios of partial widths for the B-> K pi decays. Precise measurement of the branching fractions for Bs->Ds(*)+ Ds(*)- and first measurement of the Ds*+ Ds*- polarization using e+e- collisions

We have made a precise measurement of the absolute branching fractions of Bs->Ds(*)+ Ds(*)- decays using 121.4 fb-1 of data recorded by the Belle experiment running on the Upsilon(5S) resonance. The results are B(Bs0->Ds+ Ds-) = (0.58 +0.11 -0.09 +-0.13)%, B(Bs0->Ds*+- Ds-+) = (1.8 +-0.2 +-0.4)%, and B(Bs0->Ds*+ Ds*-) = (2.0 +-0.3 +-0.5)%; the sum is B(Bs0->Ds(*)+ Ds(*)- = (4.3 +-0.4 +-1.0)%. Assuming Bs->Ds(*)+ Ds(*)- saturates decays to CP-even final states, the branching fraction constrains the ratio Delta(Gamma_s)/cos(phi_s), where Delta(Gamma_s) is the difference in widths between the two Bs0-Bs0bar mass eigenstates, and phi_s is the CP-violating phase in Bs0-Bs0bar mixing. For phi_s=0 we obtain Delta(Gamma_s)/Gamma_s = 0.090 +-0.009 (stat.) +-0.023 (syst.), where Gamma_s is the mean decay width. The results are obtained from a 711 fb-1 data sample that contains 772 million BB pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. We search for signal candidates by fully reconstructing a hadronic decay of the accompanying B meson and requiring a single h(*) meson left on the signal side. No significant signal is observed and we set upper limits on the branching fractions at 90% confidence level. The measurements of B+ -> K*+ nu nubar, B+ -> pi+ nu nubar, B0 -> pi0 nu nubar and B0 -> rho^0 nu nubar provide the world's currently most restrictive limits.

Search for Bottomonium States in Exclusive Radiative Upsilon(2S) Decays

We search for bottomonium states in Upsilon(2S)-> (bb-bar) gamma decays with an integrated luminosity of 24.7fb^-1 recorded at the Upsilon(2S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEK, containing (157.8+-3.6) X 10^6 Upsilon(2S) events. The (bb-bar) system is reconstructed in 26 exclusive hadronic final states composed of charged pions, kaons, protons, and K^0_S mesons. We find no evidence for the state recently observed around 9975 MeV (X_(bb-bar)) in an analysis based on a data sample of 9.3 X 10^6 Upsilon(2S) events collected with the CLEO III detector. We set a 90 % confidence-level upper limit on the branching fraction B[Upsilon(2S)-> X_(bb-bar) gamma] X \sum_i{B[X_(bb-bar)-> h_i]}< 4.9 X 10^-6, summed over the exclusive hadronic final states employed in our analysis. This result is an order of magnitude smaller than the measurement reported with CLEO data. We also set an upper limit for the eta_b(1S) state of B[Upsilon(2S)-> eta_b(1S) gamma] X \sum_i{B[eta_b(1S)-> h_i]}< 3.7 X 10^-6.

Study of e+e−→π+π−J/ψe^+ e^- \to π^+ π^- J/ψ and Observation of a Charged Charmonium-like State at Belle

The cross section for e+e−→π+π−J/ψe^+ e^- \to π^+ π^- J/ψ between 3.8 GeV and 5.5 GeV is measured with a 967 fb−1^{-1} data sample collected by the Belle detector at or near the Υ(nS)Υ(nS) (n=1, 2, ..., 5n = 1,\ 2,\ ...,\ 5) resonances. The Y(4260) state is observed, and its resonance parameters are determined. In addition, an excess of π+π−J/ψπ^+ π^- J/ψ production around 4 GeV is observed. This feature can be described by a Breit-Wigner parameterization with properties that are consistent with the Y(4008) state that was previously reported by Belle. In a study of Y(4260)→π+π−J/ψY(4260) \to π^+ π^- J/ψ decays, a structure is observed in the $M(π^\pm\jpsi)$ mass spectrum with 5.2σ5.2σ significance, with mass M=(3894.5±6.6±4.5)MeV/c2M=(3894.5\pm 6.6\pm 4.5) {\rm MeV}/c^2 and width Γ=(63±24±26)Γ=(63\pm 24\pm 26) MeV/c2c^{2}, where the errors are statistical and systematic, respectively. This structure can be interpreted as a new charged charmonium-like state.

Study of Exclusive B->X_u l nu Decays and Extraction of |V_{ub}| using Full Reconstruction Tagging at the Belle Experiment

We report the results of a study of the exclusive semileptonic decays B->pi0lnu, B->pi+lnu, B->rho0lnu, B->rho+lnu and B->omegalnu, where l represents an electron or a muon. The events are tagged by fully reconstructing a second B meson in the event in a hadronic decay mode. The measured branching fractions are Br(B->pi0lnu) = (0.80 +- 0.08 +- 0.04)x10^-4, Br(B->pi+lnu) = (1.49 +- 0.09 +- 0.07)x10^-4, Br(B->rho0lnu) = (1.83 +- 0.10 +- 0.10)x10^-4, Br(B->rho+lnu) = (3.22 +- 0.27 +- 0.24)x10^-4, and Br(B->omegalnu) =(1.07 +- 0.16 +- 0.07)x10^-4, where the first error is statistical and the second one is systematic. The obtained branching fractions are inclusive of soft photon emission. We also determine the branching fractions as a function of the 4-momentum transfer squared to the leptonic system q^2=(p_l+p_nu)^2, where p_l and p_nu are the lepton and neutrino 4-momenta, respectively. Using the pion modes, a recent LCSR calculation, lattice QCD results and a model-independent description of the hadronic form factor, a value of the CKM matrix element |V_{ub}| = (3.52 +- 0.29)x10^-3 is extracted. For the first time, a charmless state with invariant mass greater than 1 GeV/c^2, which might be dominated by the decay B->f2lnu, is observed. These results are obtained from a 711 1/fb data sample that contains 772 millions BB pairs, collected near the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+ e^- collider.

Signals are observed for the first time in the Υ(1S)→ϕK+K−Υ(1S) \to ϕK^+ K^-, ωπ+π−ωπ^+ π^-, K∗0K−π+K^{\ast 0} K^- π^+, K∗0K2∗0K^{\ast0} K_2^{\ast 0} and Υ(2S)→ϕK+K−Υ(2S) \to ϕK^+ K^-, K∗0K−π+K^{\ast 0} K^- π^+ decay modes. Branching fractions are determined for all the processes, while 90% confidence level upper limits are established on the branching fractions for the modes with a statistical significance less than 3σ3σ. The ratios of the branching fractions of Υ(2S)Υ(2S) and Υ(1S)Υ(1S) decays into the same final state are used to test a perturbative QCD prediction for OZI suppressed bottomonium decays.

First study of η_c, η(1760) and X(1835) production via η'π^+π^- final states in two-photon collisions

The invariant mass spectrum of the η' π^+ π^- final state produced in two-photon collisions is obtained using a 673 fb^{-1} data sample collected in the vicinity of the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider. We observe a clear signal of the η_c and measure its mass and width to be M(η_c)=(2982.7 +- 1.8(stat) +- 2.2(syst) +- 0.3(model)) MeV/c^2 and Γ(η_c) = (37.8^{+5.8}_{-5.3}(stat) +- 2.8(syst) +- 1.4(model)) MeV/c^2. The third error is an uncertainty due to possible interference between the η_c and a non-resonant component. We also report the first evidence for η(1760) decay to η' π^+ π^-; we find two solutions for its parameters, depending on the inclusion or not of the X(1835), whose existence is of marginal significance in our data. From a fit to the mass spectrum using coherent X(1835) and η(1760) resonant amplitudes, we set a 90% confidence level upper limit on the product Γ_{γγ} \BR (η' π^+ π^-) for the X(1835).

The measured values of Q^2|F(Q^2)| agree well with the previous measurements below Q^2 ~= 9 GeV^2 but do not exhibit the rapid growth in the higher Q^2 region seen in another recent measurement, which exceeds the asymptotic QCD expectation by as much as 50%.

Measurement of the CP-violation Parameter sin2ϕ1ϕ_1 with a New Tagging Method at the Υ(5S)Υ(5S) Resonance

We report a measurement of the CP-violation parameter sin2ϕ1ϕ_1 at the Υ(5S)Υ(5S) resonance using a new tagging method, called "BB-ππ tagging." In Υ(5S)Υ(5S) decays containing a neutral BB meson, a charged BB, and a charged pion, the neutral BB is reconstructed in the J/ψKS0J/ψK_S^0 CP-eigenstate decay channel. The initial flavor of the neutral BB meson at the moment of the Υ(5S)Υ(5S) decay is opposite to that of the charged BB and may thus be inferred from the charge of the pion without reconstructing the charged BB. From the asymmetry between BB-π+π^+ and BB-π−π^- tagged J/ψKS0J/ψK_S^0 yields, we determine sin2ϕ1ϕ_1 = 0.57 ±\pm 0.58(stat) ±\pm 0.06(syst). The results are based on 121 fb−1^{-1} of data recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e−e^+ e^- collider.

Observation of ψ(4040) and ψ(4160) decay into ηJ/ψ

The cross section for e^+e^- \to ηJ/ψbetween \sqrt{s}=3.8 GeV/c^2 and 5.3 GeV/c^2 is measured via initial state radiation using 980 fb^{-1} of data on and around the Υ(nS)(n=1,2,3,4,5) resonances collected with the Belle detector at KEKB. Two resonant structures at the ψ(4040) and ψ(4160) are observed in the ηJ/ψinvariant mass distribution. Fitting the mass spectrum with the coherent sum of two Breit-Wigner functions, one obtains BR(ψ(4040)\toηJ/ψ)\cdotΓ_{ee}^{ψ(4040)} = (4.8\pm0.9\pm1.4) eV and BR(ψ(4160)\toηJ/ψ)\cdotΓ_{ee}^{ψ(4160)} = (4.0\pm0.8\pm1.4) eV for one solution and BR(ψ(4040)\toηJ/ψ)\cdotΓ_{ee}^{ψ(4040)} = (11.2\pm1.3\pm1.9) eV and BR(ψ(4160)\toηJ/ψ)\cdotΓ_{ee}^{ψ(4160)} = (13.8\pm1.3\pm2.0) eV for the other solution, where the first errors are statistical and the second are systematic. This is the first measurement of this hadronic transition mode of these two states, and the partial widths to ηJ/ψare found to be about 1 MeV. We study the rare hadronic transitions Υ(2S)→Υ(1S)ηΥ(2S)\rightarrow Υ(1S)η and Υ(2S)→Υ(1S)π0Υ(2S)\rightarrow Υ(1S)π^0 using a sample of 158 ×106\times 10^6 Υ(2S)Υ(2S) decays collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+ e^- collider. We observe the ηη meson decay to γγγγ and π+π−π0π^+π^-π^0 final states; the Υ(1S)Υ(1S) is reconstructed in the μ+μ−μ^+μ^- and e+e−e^+e^- decay modes. We measure the ratios of branching fractions (B{\mathcal B}) B(Υ(2S)→Υ(1S)η)B(Υ(2S)→Υ(1S)π+π−)\frac{{\mathcal B}(Υ(2S)\rightarrowΥ(1S)η)}{{\mathcal B}(Υ(2S)\rightarrowΥ(1S)π^+π^-)} = (1.99±\pm0.14 (stat) ±\pm0.11 (syst)) ×10−3\times 10^{-3} and B(Υ(2S)→Υ(1S)π0)B(Υ(2S)→Υ(1S)π+π−)<2.3×10−4\frac{{\mathcal B}(Υ(2S)\rightarrowΥ(1S)π^0)}{{\mathcal B}(Υ(2S)\rightarrowΥ(1S)π^+π^-)} < 2.3 \times 10^{-4} at the 90% confidence level (CL). Assuming the value B(Υ(2S)→Υ(1S)π−π+){\mathcal B}(Υ(2S) \rightarrow Υ(1S)π^-π^+) = (17.92±\pm0.26)%, we obtain B(Υ(2S)→Υ(1S)η)=(3.57±0.25(stat) ±0.21(syst))×10−4 {\mathcal B}(Υ(2S)\rightarrowΥ(1S)η) = (3.57 \pm 0.25 ({\rm stat})\ \pm 0.21 ({\rm syst}))\times 10^{-4} and $ {\mathcal B}(Υ(2S)\rightarrowΥ(1S)π^0) < 4.1\times 10^{-5}\ ({\rm 90%\ CL}). $

Study of Three-Body Y(10860) Decays

We report preliminary results on the analysis of the three-body Y(10860)=> B barB pi, Y(10860) => (B barB* + c.c.) pi and Y(10860)=> B* barB* pi decays including an observation of the Y(10860)=> Zb(10610)+- pi-+ => [B barB*+c.c]+- pi-+ and Y(10860)=> Zb(10650)+- pi-+ => [B* barB*]+- pi-+ decays as intermediate channels. We measure branching fractions of the three-body decays to be Br(Y(10860)=> [B barB*+c.c.]+- pi-+)=(28.3+-2.9+-4.6)x10^{-3} and Br(Y(10860)=> [B* barB*]+- pi-+)=(14.1+-1.9+-2.4)x10^{-3} and set 90% C.L. upper limit Br(Y(10860)=> [B barB]+- pi-+)<4.0x10^{-3}. We also report results on the amplitude analysis of the three-body Y(10860)=>Y(nS)pi+pi-, n=1,2,3 decays and the analysis of the internal structure of the three-body Y(10860)=>hb(mP)pi+pi-, m=1,2 decays. The results are based on a 121.4 1/fb data sample collected with the Belle detector at a center-of-mass energy near the Y(10860).

Effect of nuclear interactions of neutral kaons on CP asymmetry measurements

We examine the effect of the difference in nuclear interactions of K0{K}^0 and Kˉ0\bar{K}^0 mesons on the measurement of CP asymmetry for experiments at e+e−e^+e^- colliders - charm and BB-meson factories. We find that this effect on CP asymmetry can be as large as 0.3%, and therefore sufficiently significant in interpreting measurements of CP asymmetry when neutral kaons are present in the final state.

Evidence for the Suppressed Decay B- -> DK-, D -> K+pi-

The suppressed decay chain B- -> DK-, D -> K+pi-, where D indicates a anti-D0 or D0 state, provides important information on the CP-violating angle phi_3. We measure the ratio R_{DK} of the decay rates to the favored mode B- -> DK-, D -> K-pi+ to be R_{DK} = [1.63^{+0.44}_{-0.41}(stat)^{+0.07}_{-0.13}(syst)] x 10^{-2}, which indicates the first evidence of the signal with a significance of 4.1sigma. We also measure the asymmetry A_{DK} between the charge-conjugate decays to be A_{DK} = -0.39^{+0.26}_{-0.28}(stat)^{+0.04}_{-0.03}(syst). The results are based on the full 772 x 10^6 B anti-B pair data sample collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector.

Measurement of the decay B0→π−ℓ+νB^0\toπ^-\ell^+ν and determination of ∣Vub∣|V_{ub}|

We present a measurement of the charmless semileptonic decay B0→π−ℓ+νB^0\toπ^-\ell^+ν using a data sample containing 657×106\times 10^6 BBˉB\bar{B} events collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider operating near the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance. We determine the total branching fraction of the decay, B(B0→π−ℓ+ν)=(1.49±0.04(stat)±0.07(syst))×10−4\mathcal{B}(B^0\toπ^-\ell^+ν)=(1.49\pm 0.04{(\mathrm{stat})}\pm 0.07{(\mathrm{syst})})\times 10^{-4}. We also report a new precise measurement of the differential decay rate, and extract the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element ∣Vub∣|V_{ub}| using model-independent and -dependent approaches. From a simultaneous fit to the measured differential decay rate and lattice QCD results, we obtain ∣Vub∣=(3.43±0.33)×10−3|V_{ub}|=(3.43\pm 0.33)\times 10^{-3}, where the error includes both statistical and systematic uncertainties.

Observation of B- to pbar Lambda D0 at Belle

We study B- meson decays to pbar Lambda D(*)0 final states using a sample of 657 * 10^6 B Bbar events collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e- collider. The observed branching fraction for B- to pbar Lambda D0 is (1.43^ +0.28_-0.25 +- 0.18)*10^-5. with a significance of 8.1 standard deviations, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. Most of the signal events have the pbarLambda mass peaking near threshold. No significant signal is observed for B- to pbar Lambda D*0 and the corresponding upper limit on the branching fraction is 4.8 * 10^-5 at the 90% confidence level.

Observation of transverse polarization asymmetries of charged pion pairs in e+e- annihilation near sqrt s=10.58 GeV

The interference fragmentation function translates the fragmentation of a quark with a transverse projection of the spin into an azimuthal asymmetry of two final-state hadrons. In e+e- annihilation the product of two interference fragmentation functions is measured. We report nonzero asymmetries for pairs of charge-ordered pi+pi- pairs, which indicate a significant interference fragmentation function in this channel. The results are obtained from a 672 fb-1 data sample that contains 711 \times 106 pi+pi- pairs and was collected at and near the ?(4S) resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.

Search for CP Violation in D Meson Decays to phi pi+

We search for CP violation in Cabibbo-suppressed charged D meson decays by measuring the difference between the CP violating asymmetries for the Cabibbo-suppressed decays D+ -> K+K-pi+ and the Cabibbo-favored decays Ds -> K+K-pi+ in the K+K- mass region of the phi resonance. Using 955/fb of data collected with the Belle detector we obtain A_CP(D+ -> phi pi+) = (+0.51 +- 0.28 +- 0.05)%. The measurement improves the sensitivity of previous searches by more than a factor of five. We find no evidence for direct CP violation.

Search for CP violation in tau -> K^0_S pi nu_tau decays at Belle

We report on a search for CP violation in tau -> K^0_S pi nu_tau decays using a data sample of 699 fb^{-1} collected in the Belle experiment at the KEKB electron-positron asymmetric-energy collider. The CP asymmetry is measured in four bins of the invariant mass of the K^0_S pi system and found to be compatible with zero with a precision of O(10^{-3}) in each mass bin. Limits for the CP violation parameter Im(eta_S) are given at a 90 % confidence level. These limits are |Im(eta_S)|<0.026 or better, depending on the parameterization used to describe the hadronic form factors and improve upon previous limits by one order of magnitude.

Study of B^{+-} -> K^{+-}(K_S K pi)^0 Decay and Determination of eta_c and eta_c(2S) Parameters

We report the results of a study of B±→K±ηcB^{\pm}\to K^{\pm}η_c and B±→K±ηc(2S)B^{\pm}\to K^{\pm}η_c(2S) decays followed by ηcη_c and ηc(2S)η_c(2S) decays to (KSKπ)0(K_SKπ)^0. The results are obtained from a data sample containing 535 million BBˉB\bar{B}-meson pairs collected by the Belle experiment at the KEKB e+e−e^+e^- collider. We measure the products of the branching fractions B(B±→K±ηc)B(ηc→KSK±π∓)=(26.7±1.4(stat)−2.6+2.9(syst)±4.9(model))×10−6{\mathcal B}(B^{\pm}\to K^{\pm}η_c){\mathcal B}(η_c\to K_S K^{\pm}π^{\mp})=(26.7\pm 1.4(stat)^{+2.9}_{-2.6}(syst)\pm 4.9(model))\times 10^{-6} and B(B±→K±ηc(2S))B(ηc(2S)→KSK±π∓)=(3.4−1.5+2.2(stat+model)−0.4+0.5syst))×10−6{\mathcal B}(B^{\pm}\to K^{\pm}η_c(2S)){\mathcal B}(η_c(2S)\to K_S K^{\pm}π^{\mp})=(3.4^{+2.2}_{-1.5}(stat+model)^{+0.5}_{-0.4} syst))\times 10^{-6}. Interference with the non-resonant component leads to significant model uncertainty in the measurement of these product branching fractions. Our analysis accounts for this interference and allows the model uncertainty to be reduced. We also obtain the following charmonia masses and widths: M(ηc)=(2985.4±1.5(stat)−2.0+0.5(syst))M(η_c)=(2985.4\pm 1.5(stat)^{+0.5}_{-2.0}(syst)) MeV/c2c^2, Γ(ηc)=(35.1±3.1(stat)−1.6+1.0(syst))Γ(η_c)=(35.1\pm 3.1(stat)^{+1.0}_{-1.6}(syst)) MeV/c2c^2, M(ηc(2S))=(3636.1−4.2+3.9(stat+model)−2.0+0.7(syst))M(η_c(2S))=(3636.1^{+3.9}_{-4.2}(stat+model)^{+0.7}_{-2.0}(syst)) MeV/c2c^2, Γ(ηc(2S))=(6.6−5.1+8.4(stat+model)−0.9+2.6(syst))Γ(η_c(2S))=(6.6^{+8.4}_{-5.1}(stat+model)^{+2.6}_{-0.9}(syst)) MeV/c2c^2.

Belle II Technical Design Report

The Belle detector at the KEKB electron-positron collider has collected almost 1 billion Y(4S) events in its decade of operation. Super-KEKB, an upgrade of KEKB is under construction, to increase the luminosity by two orders of magnitude during a three-year shutdown, with an ultimate goal of 8E35 /cm^2 /s luminosity. To exploit the increased luminosity, an upgrade of the Belle detector has been proposed. A new international collaboration Belle-II, is being formed. The Technical Design Report presents physics motivation, basic methods of the accelerator upgrade, as well as key improvements of the detector.

For M_{X_s} < 2.6 GeV/c^2, we measure a branching fraction of (26.1 +/- 3.0 (stat) +1.9 -2.1 (syst) +4.0 -7.1 (model)) x 10^-5 and a direct CP asymmetry of A_{CP} = -0.13 +/- 0.04 +0.02 -0.03. Over half of the signal occurs in the range M_{X_s} > 1.8 GeV/c^2.

Measurement of CP violating asymmetries in B^0 -> K^+K^- K^0_S decays with a time-dependent Dalitz approach

We report a measurement of CPCP violating asymmetries in B0(B‾0)→K+K−KS0B^0(\overline{B}^0) \to K^+ K^- K^0_S decays with a time-dependent Dalitz approach. This analysis is based on a data sample of 657×106657\times 10^6 BB‾B\overline{B} pairs accumulated at the Υ(4S)Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e−e^+e^- collider. As the result of an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the selected candidates, the mixing-induced and direct CPCP violation parameters, ϕ1effϕ^{\rm eff}_1 and ACP{\cal A}_{CP} are obtained for B0→ϕ(1020)KS0B^0 \to ϕ(1020) K^0_S, B0→f0(980)KS0B^0 \to f_0(980) K^0_S and other B0→K+K−KS0B^0 \to K^+ K^- K^0_S decays. We find four solutions that describe the data. There are \{eqnarray*} ϕ_1^{\rm eff}(B^0\to ϕ(1020) K^0_S) & = & (32.2 \pm 9.0 \pm 2.6 \pm 1.4)^{\circ}; ϕ_1^{\rm eff}(B^0\to ϕ(1020) K^0_S) & = & (26.2 \pm 8.8 \pm 2.7 \pm 1.2)^{\circ};\\ ϕ_1^{\rm eff}(B^0\to ϕ(1020) K^0_S) & = & (27.3 \pm 8.6 \pm 2.8 \pm 1.3)^{\circ}\; {\rm and}\\ ϕ_1^{\rm eff}(B^0\to ϕ(1020) K^0_S) & = & (24.3 \pm 8.0 \pm 2.9 \pm 5.2)^{\circ}.{eqnarray*}\ The values for the CPCP violating phase in B0→ϕ(1020)KS0B^0\to ϕ(1020) K^0_S are similar but other properties of the Dalitz plot are quite different for the four solutions. These four solutions have consistent ϕ1effϕ^{\rm eff}_1 values for all three BB meson decay channels and none of them deviates significantly from the values measured in B→(ccˉ)K0B \to (c\bar{c}) K^0 decays with the currently available statistics. In addition, we find no significant direct CPCP violation.

Observation of Bs->Ds(*)+Ds(*)- using e+e- collisions and a determination of the Bs-Bsbar width difference ΔΓ_s

We have made the first observation of Bs->Ds(*)+Ds(*)- decays using 23.6 fb-1 of data recorded by the Belle experiment running on the Upsilon(5S) resonance. The branching fractions are measured to be B(B^0_s\ra D^+_s D^-_s) = (1.0\,^{+0.4}_{-0.3}\,^{+0.3}_{-0.2})%, B(B^0_s\ra D^{*\pm}_s D^{\mp}_s) = (2.8\,^{+0.8}_{-0.7}\,\pm 0.7)%, and B(B^0_s\ra D^{*+}_s D^{*-}_s) = (3.1\,^{+1.2}_{-1.0}\,\pm 0.8)%; the sum is B(B^0_s\ra D^{(*)+}_s D^{(*)-}_s) = (6.9\,^{+1.5}_{-1.3}\,\pm 1.9)%. Assuming Bs->Ds(*)+Ds(*)- saturates decays to CP-even final states, the branching fraction determines the ratio ΔΓ_s/cos(ϕ), where ΔΓ_s is the difference in widths between the two Bs-Bsbar mass eigenstates, and ϕis a CP-violating weak phase. Taking CP violation to be negligibly small, we obtain ΔΓ_s/Γ_s = 0.147^{+0.036}_{-0.030}(stat.)^{+0.044}_{-0.042}(syst.), where Γ_s is the mean decay width.

Search for First-Generation Scalar Leptoquarks in ppˉ\bm{p \bar{p}} collisions at s\sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV

We report on a search for pair production of first-generation scalar leptoquarks (LQLQ) in ppˉp \bar{p} collisions at s\sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV using an integrated luminosity of 203 pb−1pb^{-1} collected at the Fermilab Tevatron collider by the CDF experiment. We observe no evidence for LQLQ production in the topologies arising from LQLQˉ→eqeqLQ \bar{LQ} \to eqeq and LQLQˉ→eqνqLQ \bar{LQ} \to eq νq, and derive 95% C.L. upper limits on the LQLQ production cross section. %as a function of ββ, where ββ is the branching fraction for LQ→eqLQ \to eq. The results are combined with those obtained from a separately reported CDF search in the topology arising from LQLQˉ→νqνqLQ\bar{LQ} \to νq νq and 95% C.L. lower limits on the LQ mass as a function of β=BR(LQ→eq)β= BR(LQ \to eq) are derived. The limits are 236, 205 and 145 GeV/c2^2 for ββ = 1, ββ = 0.5 and ββ = 0.1, respectively.
