We explore an asymptotic behavior of entropies for sums of independent random variables that are convolved with a small continuous noise.
Let us define, for a compact set $A \subset \mathbb{R}^n$, the Minkowski averages of $A$: $$ A(k) = \left\{\frac{a_1+\cdots +a_k}{k} : a_1, \ldots, a_k\in A\right\}=\frac{1}{k}\Big(\underset{k\ {\rm times}}{\underbrace{A + \cdots + A}}\Big). $$ We study the monotonicity of the convergence of $A(k)$ towards the convex hull of $A$, when considering the Hausdorff distance, the volume deficit and a non-convexity index of Schneider as measures of convergence. For the volume deficit, we show that monotonicity fails in general, thus disproving a conjecture of Bobkov, Madiman and Wang. For Schneider's non-convexity index, we prove that a strong form of monotonicity holds, and for the Hausdorff distance, we establish that the sequence is eventually nonincreasing.
We characterize the symmetric measures which satisfy the one dimensional convex infimum convolution inequality of Maurey. For these measures the tensorization argument yields the two level Talagrand's concentration inequalities for their products and convex sets in $\mathbb{R}^n$.
We present a simple proof of Christer Borell's general inequality in the Brunn-Minkowski theory. We then discuss applications of Borell's inequality to the log-Brunn-Minkowski inequality of Böröczky, Lutwak, Yang and Zhang.
In this paper we present new versions of the classical Brunn-Minkowski inequality for different classes of measures and sets. We show that the inequality \[ μ(λA + (1-λ)B)^{1/n} \geq λμ(A)^{1/n} + (1-λ)μ(B)^{1/n} \] holds true for an unconditional product measure $μ$ with decreasing density and a pair of unconditional convex bodies $A,B \subset \mathbb{R}^n$. We also show that the above inequality is true for any unconditional $\log$-concave measure $μ$ and unconditional convex bodies $A,B \subset \mathbb{R}^n$. Finally, we prove that the inequality is true for a symmetric $\log$-concave measure $μ$ and a pair of symmetric convex sets $A,B \subset \mathbb{R}^2$, which, in particular, settles two-dimensional case of the conjecture for Gaussian measure proposed by R. Gardner and the fourth named author. In addition, we deduce the $1/n$-concavity of the parallel volume $t \mapsto μ(A+tB)$, Brunn's type theorem and certain analogues of Minkowski first inequality.
We consider a different $L^p$-Minkowski combination of compact sets in $\mathbb{R}^n$ than the one introduced by Firey and we prove an $L^p$-Brunn-Minkowski inequality, $p \in [0,1]$, for a general class of measures called convex measures that includes log-concave measures, under unconditional assumptions. As a consequence, we derive concavity properties of the function $t \mapsto μ(t^{\frac{1}{p}} A)$, $p \in (0,1]$, for unconditional convex measures $μ$ and unconditional convex body $A$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$. We also prove that the (B)-conjecture for all uniform measures is equivalent to the (B)-conjecture for all log-concave measures, completing recent works by Saroglou.
In this paper we establish concavity properties of two extensions of the classical notion of the outer parallel volume. On the one hand, we replace the Lebesgue measure by more general measures. On the other hand, we consider a functional version of the outer parallel sets.
We prove that a general class of measures, which includes $\log$-concave measures, is $\frac{1}{n}$-concave according to the terminology of Borell, with additional assumptions on the measures or on the sets, such as symmetries. This generalizes results of Gardner and Zvavitch.
Elaborating on the similarity between the entropy power inequality and the Brunn-Minkowski inequality, Costa and Cover conjectured in {\it On the similarity of the entropy power inequality and the Brunn-Minkowski inequality} (IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory 30 (1984), no. 6, 837-839) the $\frac{1}{n}$-concavity of the outer parallel volume of measurable sets as an analogue of the concavity of entropy power. We investigate this conjecture and study its relationship with geometric inequalities.
