On Koebe-type functions for harmonic quasiconformal mappings

This paper studies a class of Koebe-type harmonic quasiconformal functions. It is motivated by the shear construction of Clunie and Sheil-Small [Ann. Acad. Sci. Fenn. Ser. A I Math. 9: 3--25, 1984] and the harmonic quasiconformal Koebe function. Equivalent univalence conditions, pre-Schwarzian and Schwarzian norms, coefficient inequalities, as well as growth and area theorems for this family of functions are established. These findings improve several previously known results.

On Lipschitz continuity of solutions of hyperbolic Poisson's equation

In this paper, we investigate solutions of the hyperbolic Poisson equation $Δ_{h}u(x)=ψ(x)$, where $ψ\in L^{\infty}(\mathbb{B}^{n}, \mathbb{R}^n)$ and \[ Δ_{h}u(x)= (1-|x|^2)^2Δu(x)+2(n-2)(1-|x|^2)\sum_{i=1}^{n} x_{i} \frac{\partial u}{\partial x_{i}}(x) \] is the hyperbolic Laplace operator in the $n$-dimensional space $\mathbb{R}^n$ for $n\ge 2$. We show that if $n\geq 3$ and $u\in C^{2}(\mathbb{B}^{n},\mathbb{R}^n) \cap C(\overline{\mathbb{B}^{n}},\mathbb{R}^n )$ is a solution to the hyperbolic Poisson equation, then it has the representation $u=P_{h}[ϕ]-G_{ h}[ψ]$ provided that $u\mid_{\mathbb{S}^{n-1}}=ϕ$ and $\int_{\mathbb{B}^{n}}(1-|x|^{2})^{n-1} |ψ(x)|\,dτ(x)<\infty$. Here $P_{h}$ and $G_{h}$ denote Poisson and Green integrals with respect to $Δ_{h}$, respectively. Furthermore, we prove that functions of the form $u=P_{h}[ϕ]-G_{h}[ψ]$ are Lipschitz continuous.

$L^p\to L^q$ norm estimates of Cauchy transforms on the Dirichlet problem and their applications

Denote by $C^α(\mathbb{D})$ the space of the functions $f$ on t}he unit disk $\mathbb{D}$ which are Hölder continuous with the exponent $α$, and denote by $C^{1, α}(\mathbb{D})$ the space which consists of differentiable functions $f$ such that their derivatives are in the space $C^α(\mathbb{D})$. Let $\mathcal{C}$ be the Cauchy transform of Dirichlet problem. In this paper, we obtain the norm estimates of $\|\mathcal{C}\|_{L^p\to L^q}$, where $3/2<p<2$ and $q=p/(p-1)$. As an application, we show that if $3/2<p<2$, then $u\in C^μ(\mathbb{D})$, where $μ=2/p-1$. We also show that if $2<p<\infty$, then $u\in C^{1, ν}(\mathbb{D})$, where $ν=1-2/p$. Finally, for the case $p=\infty$, we show that $u$ is not necessarily in $C^{1, 1}(\mathbb{D})$, but its gradient, i.e., $|\nabla u|$ is Lipschitz continuous with respect to the pseudo-hyperbolic metric. This paper is inspired by Chapter 4 of [Astala, Iwaniec, Martin: Elliptic partial differential equations and quasiconformal mappings in the plane, Princeton Mathematical Series, Vol. 48, Princeton University Press, Princeton, NJ, 2009, p. xviii+677] and [Kalaj, Cauchy transform and Poisson's equation, Adv. Koebe and Caratheódory type boundary behavior results for harmonic mappings

We study the behavior of the boundary function of a harmonic mapping from global and local points of view. Results related to the Koebe lemma are proved, as well as a generalization of a boundary behavior theorem by Bshouty, Lyzzaik and Weitsman. We also discuss this result from a different point of view, from which a relation between the boundary behavior of the dilatation at a boundary point and the continuity of the boundary function of our mapping can be seen.

On a subclass of starlike functions associated with a vertical strip domain

In this paper, we consider a subclass of starlike functions associated with a vertical strip domain. Several results concerned with integral representations, convolutions, and coefficient inequalities for functions belonging to this class are obtained. Furthermore, we consider radius problems and inclusion relations involving certain classes of strongly starlike functions, parabolic starlike functions and other types of starlike functions. The results are essential improvements of the corresponding results obtained by Kargar et al., and the derivations are similar to those used earlier by Sun et al. and Kwon et al..

Quasimöbius invariance of uniform domains

In this paper, we study quasimöbius invariance of uniform domains in Banach spaces. We first investigate implications of certain geometric properties of domains in Banach spaces, such as the (diameter) uniformity, the $δ$-uniformity and the min-max property. Then we show that all of these conditions are equivalent if the domain is $ψ$-natural. As applications, we answer partially to an open question proposed by Väisälä, and provide a new method to prove a recent result of M. Huang, Y. Li, M. Vuorinen, and X. Wang in [On quasimöbius maps in real Banach spaces, Israel J. Math. 198 (2013), 467-486], which also gives an answer to another question raised by Väisälä.

Lipschitz type, radial growth and Dirichlet type spaces on functions induced by certain elliptic operators

In this paper, we investigate properties of classes of functions related to certain elliptic operators. Firstly, we prove that a main result of Dyakonov (Acta Math. 178(1997), 143--167) on analytic functions can be extended to this more general setting. Secondly, we study the radial growth on these functions and the obtained results are generalizations of the corresponding results of Makarov (Proc. London Math. Soc. 51(1985), 369--384) and Korenblum (Bull. Amer. Math. Soc. 12(1985), 99--102). Finally, we discuss the Dirichlet type energy integrals on such classes of functions and their applications.

Spatial Mappings for Planning and Optimization of Cellular Networks

In cellular networks, users are grouped into different cells and served by different access points (base stations) that provide wireless access to services and applications. In general, the service demand is very heterogeneous, non-uniformly distributed, and dynamic. Consequently, radio access networks create very irregular topologies with more access points where service demand is concentrated. While this dynamism requires networks with the ability to adapt to time-varying conditions, the non-uniformity of the service demand makes the planning, analysis, and optimization difficult. In order to help with these tasks, a framework based on canonical domains and spatial mappings (e.g., conformal mapping) have recently been proposed. The idea is to carry out part of the planning in a canonical (perfectly symmetric) domain that is connected to the physical one (real-scenario) by means of a spatial transformation designed to map the access points consistently with the service demand. This paper continues the research in that direction by introducing additional tools and possibilities to that framework, namely the use of centroidal Voronoi algorithms and non-conformal composite mappings. Moreover, power optimization is also introduced to the framework. The results show the usability and effectiveness of the proposed method and its promising research perspectives.

Yukawa Potential, Panharmonic Measure and Brownian Motion

In [25] a Walk On Spheres (WOS) algorithm for Monte Carlo simulation of the solutions of the Yukawa and the Helmholtz PDE's was developed by using the so-called Duffin correspondence. In this paper we investigate the foundations behind the algorithm for the case of the Yukawa PDE. We study the panharmonic measure that is a generalization of the harmonic measure for the Yukawa PDE. We show that there are natural stochastic definitions for the panharmonic measure in terms of the Brownian motion and that the harmonic and the panharmonic measures are all mutually equivalent. Furthermore, we calculate their Radon--Nikodym derivatives explicitly for some balls, which is a key result behind the WOS algorithm.

Conformal modulus on domains with strong singularities and cusps

We study the problem of computing the conformal modulus of rings and quadrilaterals with strong singularities and cusps on their boundary. We reduce this problem to the numerical solution of the associated Dirichlet and Dirichlet-Neumann type boundary values problems for the Laplace equation. Several experimental results, with error estimates, are reported. In particular, we consider domains with dendrite like boundaries, in such cases where an analytic formula for the conformal modulus can be derived. Our numerical method makes use of an $hp$-FEM algorithm, written for this very complicated geometry with strong singularities.

Semisolidity and locally weak quasisymmetry of homeomorphisms in metric spaces

In this paper, we investigate the relationship between semisolidity and locally weak quasisymmetry of homeomorphisms in quasiconvex and complete metric spaces. Our main objectives are to (1) generalize the main result in [X. Huang and J. Liu, Quasihyperbolic metric and quasisymmetric mappings in metric spaces, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 367 (2015), 6225-6246] together with other related results, and (2) give a complete answer to the open problem given in [X. Huang and J. Liu, Quasihyperbolic metric and quasisymmetric mappings in metric spaces, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 367 (2015), 6225-6246]. As an application, we prove that the composition of two locally weakly quasisymmetric mappings is a locally weakly quasisymmetric mapping and that it is quasiconformal.

On smoothness of quasihyperbolic balls

We investigate properties of quasihyperbolic balls and geodesics in Euclidean and Banach spaces. Our main result is that in uniformly smooth Banach spaces a quasihyperbolic ball of a convex domain is $C^1$-smooth. The question about the smoothness of quasihyperbolic balls is old, originating back to the discussions of F.W. Gehring and M. Vuorinen in 1970's. To our belief, the result is new also in the Euclidean setting. We also address some other issues involving the smoothness of quasihyperbolic balls. We introduce an interesting application of quasihyperbolic metrics to renormings of Banach spaces. To provide a useful tool for this approach we turn our attention to the variational stability of quasihyperbolic geodesics. Several examples and illustrations are provided.

Coefficient estimates and the Fekete-Szeg\H o problem for certain classes of polyharmonic mappings

We give coefficient estimates for a class of close-to-convex harmonic mappings, and discuss the Fekete-Szegő problem of it. We also introduce two classes of polyharmonic mappings $\mathcal{HS}_{p}$ and $\mathcal{HC}_{p}$, consider the starlikeness and convexity of them, and obtain coefficient estimates on them. Finally, we give a necessary condition for a mapping $F$ to be in the class $\mathcal{HC}_{p}$.

On characterizations of Bloch-type, Hardy-type and Lipschitz-type spaces

In this paper, we establish a Bloch-type growth theorem for generalized Bloch-type spaces and discuss relationships between Dirichlet-type spaces and Hardy-type spaces on certain classes of complex-valued functions. Then we present some applications to non-homogeneous Yukawa PDEs. We also consider some properties of the Lipschitz-type spaces on certain classes of complex-valued functions. Finally, we will study a class of composition operators on these spaces.

On polyharmonic univalent mappings

In this paper, we introduce a class of complex-valued polyharmonic mappings, denoted by $HS_{p}(λ)$, and its subclass $HS_{p}^{0}(λ)$, where $λ\in [0,1]$ is a constant. These classes are natural generalizations of a class of mappings studied by Goodman in 1950's. We generalize the main results of Avci and Złotkiewicz from 1990's to the classes $HS_{p}(λ)$ and $HS_{p}^{0}(λ)$, showing that the mappings in $HS_{p}(λ)$ are univalent and sense preserving. We also prove that the mappings in $HS_{p}^{0}(λ)$ are starlike with respect to the origin, and characterize the extremal points of the above classes.

On Quasihyperbolic Geodesics in Banach Spaces

We study properties of quasihyperbolic geodesics on Banach spaces. For example, we show that in a strictly convex Banach space with the Radon-Nikodym property, the quasihyperbolic geodesics are unique. We also give an example of a convex domain $Ω$ in a Banach space such that there is no geodesic between any given pair of points $x, y \in Ω\,.$ In addition, we prove that if $\mathrm{X}$ is a uniformly convex Banach space and its modulus of convexity is of a power type, then every geodesic of the quasihyperbolic metric, defined on a proper subdomain of $\mathrm{X}$, is smooth.

Starlikeness and convexity of polyharmonic mappings

In this paper, we first find an estimate for the range of polyharmonic mappings in the class $HC_{p}^{0}$. Then, we obtain two characterizations in terms of the convolution for polyharmonic mappings to be starlike of order $α$, and convex of order $β$, respectively. Finally, we study the radii of starlikeness and convexity for polyharmonic mappings, under certain coefficient conditions.

Computation of exterior moduli of quadrilaterals

We study the problem of computing the exterior modulus of a bounded quadrilateral. We reduce this problem to the numerical solution of the Dirichlet-Neumann problem for the Laplace equation. Several experimental results, with error estimates, are reported. Our main method makes use of an $hp$-FEM algorithm, which enables computations in the case of complicated geometry. For simple geometries, good agreement with computational results based on the SC Toolbox, is observed. We also use the reciprocal error estimation method introduced in our earlier paper to validate our numerical results. In particular, exponential convergence, in accordance with the theory of Babu\vska and Guo, is demonstrated.

Harmonic Shears of Slit and Polygonal Mappings

In this paper, we study harmonic mappings by using the shear construction, introduced by Clunie and Sheil-Small in 1984. We consider two classes of conformal mappings, each of which maps the unit disk D univalently onto a domain which is convex in the horizontal direction, and shear these mappings with suitable dilatations ω. Mappings of the first class map the unit disk D onto four-slit domains and mappings of the second class take D onto regular n-gons. In addition, we discuss the minimal surfaces associated with such harmonic mappings. Furthermore, illustrations of mappings and associated minimal surfaces are given by using Mathematica.

Mapping problems for quasiregular mappings

We study images of the unit ball under certain special classes of quasiregular mappings. For homeomorphic, i.e., quasiconformal mappings problems of this type have been studied extensively in the literature. In this paper we also consider non-homeomorphic quasiregular mappings. In particular, we study (topologically) closed quasiregular mappings originating from the work of J. Väisälä and M. Vuorinen in 1970's. Such mappings need not be one-to-one but they still share many properties of quasiconformal mappings. The global behavior of closed quasiregular mappings is similar to the local behavior of quasiregular mappings restricted to a so-called normal domain.

Radial growth, Lipschitz and Dirichlet spaces on solutions to the Yukawa equation

In this paper, we investigate some properties to solutions $f$ to the Yukawa PDE: $Δf=λf$ in the unit ball $\mathbb{B}^n$ of $\mathbb{C}^n$, where $λ$ is a nonnegative constant. First, we prove that the answer to an open problem of Girela and Peláez, concerning such solutions, is positive. Then we study relationships on such solutions between the bounded mean oscillation and Lipschitz-type spaces. At last, we discuss Dirichlet-type energy integrals on such solutions in the unit ball of $\mathbb{C}^{n}$ and give an application.

On moduli of rings and quadrilaterals: algorithms and experiments

Moduli of rings and quadrilaterals are frequently applied in geometric function theory, see e.g. the Handbook by Kühnau. Yet their exact values are known only in a few special cases. Previously, the class of planar domains with polygonal boundary has been studied by many authors from the point of view of numerical computation. We present here a new $hp$-FEM algorithm for the computation of moduli of rings and quadrilaterals and compare its accuracy and performance with previously known methods such as the Schwarz-Christoffel Toolbox of Driscoll and Trefethen. We also demonstrate that the $hp$-FEM algorithm applies to the case of non-polygonal boundary and report results with concrete error bounds.
