On stability of Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker solutions in doubled geometries

Motivated by the models of geometry with discrete spaces as additional dimensions we investigate the stability of cosmological solutions in models with two metrics of the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker type. We propose an effective gravity action that couples the two metrics in a similar manner as in the bimetric theory of gravity and analyse whether standard solutions with identical metrics are stable under small perturbations.

Smooth geometry of the noncommutative pillow, cones and lens spaces

This paper proposes a new notion of smoothness of algebras, termed differential smoothness, that combines the existence of a top form in a differential calculus over an algebra together with a strong version of the Poincaré duality realized as an isomorphism between complexes of differential and integral forms. The quantum two- and three-spheres, disc, plane and the noncommutative torus are all smooth in this sense. Noncommutative coordinate algebras of deformations of several examples of classical orbifolds such as the pillow orbifold, singular cones and lens spaces are also differentially smooth. Although surprising this is not fully unexpected as these algebras are known to be homologically smooth. The study of Riemannian aspects of the noncommutative pillow and Moyal deformations of cones leads to spectral triples that satisfy the orientability condition that is known to be broken for classical orbifolds.

The geometry of quantum lens spaces: real spectral triples and bundle structure

We study almost real spectral triples on quantum lens spaces, as orbit spaces of free actions of cyclic groups on the spectral geometry on the quantum group $SU_q(2)$. These spectral triples are given by weakening some of the conditions of a real spectral triple. We classify the irreducible almost real spectral triples on quantum lens spaces and we study unitary equivalences of such quantum lens spaces. Applying a useful characterization of principal $U(1)$-fibrations in noncommutative geometry, we show that all such quantum lens spaces are principal $U(1)$-fibrations over quantum teardrops.

Twisted Cyclic Cohomology and Modular Fredholm Modules

Connes and Cuntz showed in [Comm. Math. Phys. 114 (1988), 515-526] that suitable cyclic cocycles can be represented as Chern characters of finitely summable semifinite Fredholm modules. We show an analogous result in twisted cyclic cohomology using Chern characters of modular Fredholm modules. We present examples of modular Fredholm modules arising from Podleś spheres and from $SU_q(2)$.

Curved noncommutative torus and Gauss--Bonnet

We study perturbations of the flat geometry of the noncommutative two-dimensional torus T^2_θ(with irrational θ). They are described by spectral triples (A_θ, \H, D), with the Dirac operator D, which is a differential operator with coefficients in the commutant of the (smooth) algebra A_θof T_θ. We show, up to the second order in perturbation, that the zeta-function at 0 vanishes and so the Gauss-Bonnet theorem holds. We also calculate first two terms of the perturbative expansion of the corresponding local scalar curvature.

Compact $κ$-deformation and spectral triples

We construct discrete versions of $κ$-Minkowski space related to a certain compactness of the time coordinate. We show that these models fit into the framework of noncommutative geometry in the sense of spectral triples. The dynamical system of the underlying discrete groups (which include some Baumslag--Solitar groups) is heavily used in order to construct \emph{finitely summable} spectral triples. This allows to bypass an obstruction to finite-summability appearing when using the common regular representation. The dimension of these spectral triples is unrelated to the number of coordinates defining the $κ$-deformed Minkowski spaces.

Noncommutative circle bundles and new Dirac operators

We study spectral triples over noncommutative principal U(1) bundles. Basing on the classical situation and the abstract algebraic approach, we propose an operatorial definition for a connection and compatibility between the connection and the Dirac operator on the total space and on the base space of the bundle. We analyze in details the example of the noncommutative three-torus viewed as a U(1) bundle over the noncommutative two-torus and find all connections compatible with an admissible Dirac operator. Conversely, we find a family of new Dirac operators on the noncommutative tori, which arise from the base-space Dirac operator and a suitable connection.

Star product realizations of kappa-Minkowski space

We define a family of star products and involutions associated with $κ$-Minkowski space. Applying corresponding quantization maps we show that these star products restricted to a certain space of Schwartz functions have isomorphic Banach algebra completions. For two particular star products it is demonstrated that they can be extended to a class of polynomially bounded smooth functions allowing a realization of the full Hopf algebra structure on $κ$-Minkowski space. Furthermore, we give an explicit realization of the action of the $κ$-Poincaré algebra as an involutive Hopf algebra on this representation of $κ$-Minkowski space and initiate a study of its properties.

On spectral action over Bieberbach manifolds

We compute the leading terms of the spectral action for orientable three dimensional Bieberbach manifolds first, using two different methods: the Poisson summation formula and the perturbative expansion. Assuming that the cut-off function is not necessarily symmetric we find that that the scale invariant part of the perturbative expansion might differ from the spectral action of the flat three-torus by the eta invariant.

Spectral action for scalar perturbations of Dirac operators

We investigate the leading terms of the spectral action for odd-dimensional Riemannian spin manifolds with the Dirac operator perturbed by a scalar function. We calculate first two Gilkey-de Witt coefficients and make explicit calculations for the case of $n$-spheres with a completely symmetric Dirac. In the special case of dimension 3, when such perturbation corresponds to the completely antisymmetric torsion we carry out the noncommutative calculation following Chamseddine and Connes and study the case of $SU_q(2)$.

Can (noncommutative) geometry accommodate leptoquarks?

We investigate the geometric interpretation of the Standard Model based on noncommutative geometry. Neglecting the $S_0$-reality symmetry one may introduce leptoquarks into the model. We give a detailed discussion of the consequences (both for the Connes-Lott and the spectral action) and compare the results with physical bounds. Our result is that in either case one contradicts the experimental results.

Gravity from Noncommutative Geometry

We introduce the linear connection in the noncommutative geometry model of the product of continuous manifold and the discrete space of two points. We discuss its metric properties, define the metric connection and calculate the curvature. We define also the Ricci tensor and the scalar curvature. We find that the latter differs from the standard scalar curvature of the manifold by a term, which might be interpreted as the cosmological constant and apart from that we find no other dynamical fields in the model. Finally we discuss an example solution of flat linear connection, with the nontrivial scaling dependence of the metric tensor on the discrete variable. We interpret the obtained solution as confirmed by the Standard Model, with the scaling factor corresponding to the Weinberg angle.

Noncommutative Differential Calculus on the Kappa-Minkowski Space

Following the construction of the $κ$-Minkowski space from the bicrossproduct structure of the $κ$-Poincare group, we investigate possible differential calculi on this noncommutative space. We discuss then the action of the Lorentz quantum algebra and prove that there are no 4D bicovariant differential calculi, which are Lorentz covariant. We show, however, that there exist a five-dimensional differential calculus, which satisfies both requirements. We study also a toy example of 2D $κ$-Minkowski space and and we briefly discuss the main properties of its differential calculi.

Noncommutative Geometry and Gauge Theories on Discrete Groups

We build and investigate a pure gauge theory on arbitrary discrete groups. A systematic approach to the construction of the differential calculus is presented. We discuss the metric properties of the models and introduce the action functionals for unitary gauge theories. A detailed analysis of two simple models based on $\z_2$ and $\z_3$ follows. Finally we study the method of combining the discrete and continuous geometry.
