A Muon Collider Facility for Physics Discovery

Muon colliders provide a unique route to deliver high energy collisions that enable discovery searches and precision measurements to extend our understanding of the fundamental laws of physics. The muon collider design aims to deliver physics reach at the highest energies with costs, power consumption and on a time scale that may prove favorable relative to other proposed facilities. In this context, a new international collaboration has formed to further extend the design concepts and performance studies of such a machine. This effort is focused on delivering the elements of a $\sim$10 TeV center of mass (CM) energy design to explore the physics energy frontier. The path to such a machine may pass through lower energy options. Currently a 3 TeV CM stage is considered. Other energy stages could also be explored, e.g. an s-channel Higgs Factory operating at 125 GeV CM. We describe the status of the R&D and design effort towards such a machine and lay out a plan to bring these concepts to maturity as a tool for the high energy physics community.

Sensitivity of Anomalous Quartic Gauge Couplings via $Zγγ$ Production at Future hadron-hadron Colliders

Triple gauge boson production provides a promising opportunity to probe the anomalous quartic gauge couplings in understanding the details of electroweak symmetry breaking at future hadron-hadron collider facilities with increasing center of mass energy and luminosity. In this paper, we investigate the sensitivities of dimension-8 anomalous couplings related to the $ZZγγ$ and $Zγγγ$ quartic vertices, defined in the effective field theory framework, via $pp\to Zγγ$ signal process with Z-boson decaying to charged leptons at the high luminosity phase of LHC (HL-LHC) and future facilities, namely the High Energy LHC (HE-LHC) and Future Circular hadron-hadron collider (FCC-hh). We analyzed the signal and relevant backgrounds via a cut based method with Monte Carlo event sampling where the detector responses of three hadron collider facilities, the center-of-mass energies of 14, 27 and 100 TeV with an integrated luminosities of 3, 15 and 30 ab$^{-1}$ are considered for the HL-LHC, HE-LHC and FCC-hh, respectively. The reconstructed 4-body invariant mass of $l^+l^-γγ$ system is used to constrain the anomalous quartic gauge coupling parameters under the hypothesis of absence of anomalies in triple gauge couplings. Our results indicate that the sensitivity on anomalous quartic couplings $f_{T8}/Λ^{4}$ and $f_{T9}/Λ^{4}$ ($f_{T0}/Λ^{4}$, $f_{T1}/Λ^{4}$ and $f_{T2}/Λ^{4}$) at 95$\%$ C.L. for FCC-hh with $L_{int}$ = 30 ab$^{-1}$ without systematic errors are two (one) order better than the current experimental limits. Considering a realistic systematic uncertainty such as 10$\%$ from possible experimental sources, the sensitivity of all anomalous quartic couplings gets worsen by about 1.2$\%$, 1.7$\%$ and 1.5$\%$ compared to those without systematic uncertainty for HL-LHC, HE-LHC and FCC-hh, respectively.

CP-violating Higgs-gauge boson couplings in $Hν\barν$ production at three energy stages of CLIC

A phenomenological study of CP-violating dimension-six operators via the $e^+e^-\toν\barν H$ process is performed in a model-independent Standard Model effective field theory framework at all energy stages of CLIC using the updated baseline integrated luminosities. All signal and relevant background events are generated in MadGraph and passed through PYTHIA for parton showering and hadronization at parton level. Detector effects are considered via tuned CLIC detector cards in Delphes. Since we reconstruct the Higgs boson from a pair of b-jets, limits on CP-violating dimension-six couplings are obtained at three $b$-tagging working points: tight, medium and loose defined in the CLIC Delphes card for all three energy stages of CLIC. Our best 95 \% C.L. limits at the loose working point (90 \% b-tagging efficiency) on $\tilde c_{HW}$ and $\tilde c_{HB}$ are $[-7.0\times10^{-3};7.0\times10^{-3}]$ and $[-3.0\times10^{-2};3.0\times10^{-2}]$, respectively at the 3 TeV energy stage of CLIC with an integrated luminosity of 5.0 ab$^{-1}$. Considering a 0.3 \% systematic uncertainty from possible experimental sources worsens the limits on these couplings by a factor of two.

Prospective constraints on anomalous Higgs boson interactions in an effective Lagrangian via diphoton production at FCC-hh

We study the CP-conserving and CP-violating dimension-six operators of Higgs-gauge boson couplings via $pp\toγγ$+n-jet signal process in a strongly interacting light Higgs based effective field theory framework at the center of mass energy of 100 TeV. In order to perform a simulation which includes realistic detector effects, the signal events in the existence of $\bar{c}_γ $, $\tilde{c}_γ$, $\bar{c}_{g} $ and $\tilde{c}_{g}$ Wilson coefficients and the relevant SM background events are generated in MadGraph, then passed through Pythia 8 for parton showering and finally run Delphes with FCC-hh detector card. In our analysis, we focus on the kinematic variables of the two photons in the final states of signal and relevant background processes that can reconstruct Higgs boson. We obtain constraints on the four Wilson coefficients of dimension-six operators using the transverse momentum distribution of reconstructed di-photon system with optimized kinematic cuts. The obtained 95\% confidence level limits on these four Wilson coefficients including detector effects at $\sqrt s$=100 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 30 ab$^{-1}$ without systematic error are at least one order or more better than current experimental limits reported by ATLAS experiment. Even with $δ_{sys}=2 \%$ systematic error, we find comparable limits with current experimental results.

The projections on $ZZγ$ and $Zγγ$ couplings via $ν\bar νγ$ production in HL-LHC and HE-LHC

We investigate the sensitivity of the anomalous dimension-8 neutral triple gauge couplings via process $pp\to ννγ$ with fast detector simulation including pile-up effects for the post LHC experiments. The transverse momentum of the final state photon and missing energy transverse distributions are considered in the analysis. We obtain the sensitivity to the $C_{\widetilde B W}/Λ^4$, $C_{B B}/Λ^4$, $C_{WW}/Λ^4$ and $C_{BW}/Λ^4$ couplings at HL-LHC and HE-LHC with an integrated luminosity of 3 ab$^{-1}$ and 15 ab$^{-1}$, respectively. Finally, our numerical results show that one can reach the constraints at 95\% confidence level without systematic error on $C_{\widetilde BW}/Λ^4$, $C_{B B}/Λ^4$, $C_{W W}/Λ^4$ and $C_{BW}/Λ^4$ couplings for HL-LHC (HE-LHC) as [-0.38;0.38] ([-0.12;0.12]), [-0.21;0.21]([-0.085;0.085]), [-1.08;1.08]([-0.38;0.38]) and [-0.48;0.48]([-0.25;0.25]), respectively. They are better than the experimental limits obtained by LHC.

Sensitivity on Anomalous Neutral Triple Gauge Couplings via $ZZ$ Production at FCC-hh

We study the sensitivity of anomalous neutral triple gauge couplings ($aNTGC$) via $pp \rightarrow ZZ$ production in the 4$\ell$ channel at 100 TeV centre of mass energy of future circular hadron collider, \verb"FCC-hh". Search for anomalous quartic $ZZγγ$ couplings in photon-photon collisions

The self-couplings of the electroweak gauge bosons are completely specified by the non-Abelian gauge nature of the Standard Model (SM). The direct study of these couplings provides a significant opportunity to test the validity of the SM and the existence of new physics beyond the SM up to the high energy scale. For this reason, we investigate the potential of the processes $γγ\rightarrow ZZ$, $e^{-}γ\rightarrow e^{-}γ^{*}γ\rightarrow e^{-}Z\, Z$ and $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow e^{+}γ^{*} γ^{*} e^{-} \rightarrow e^{+}\, Z\, Z\, e^{-}$ to examine the anomalous quartic couplings of $ZZγγ$ vertex at the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) with center-of-mass energy $3$ TeV. We calculate $95\%$ confidence level sensitivities on the dimension-8 parameters with various values of the integrated luminosity. We show that the best bounds on the anomalous $\frac{f_{M2}}{Λ^{4}}$, $\frac{f_{M3}}{Λ^{4}}$, $\frac{f_{T0}}{Λ^4}$ and $\frac{f_{T9}}{Λ^4}$ couplings arise from $γγ\rightarrow ZZ$ process among those three processes at center-of-mass energy of 3 TeV and integrated luminosity of $L_{int}=2000$ fb$^{-1}$ are found to be $[-3.30;3.30]\times 10 ^{-3}$ TeV$^{-4}$, $[-1.20;1.20]\times 10 ^{-2}$ TeV$^{-4}$, $[-3.40;3.40]\times 10 ^{-3}$ TeV$^{-4}$ and $[-1.80;1.80]\times 10 ^{-3}$ TeV$^{-4}$, respectively.

Analysis of anomalous quartic $WWZγ$ couplings in $γp$ collision at the LHC

Gauge boson self-couplings are exactly determined by the non-Abelian gauge nature of the Standard Model (SM), thus precision measurements of these couplings at the LHC provide an important opportunity to test the gauge structure of the SM and the spontaneous symmetry breaking mechanism. It is a common way to examine the physics of anomalous quartic gauge boson couplings via effective Lagrangian method. In this work, we investigate the potential of the process $pp\rightarrow pγp\rightarrow p W Z q X$ to analyze anomalous quartic $WWZγ$ couplings by two different CP-violating and CP-conserving effective Lagrangians at the LHC. We calculate $95\%$ confidence level limits on the anomalous coupling parameters with various values of the integrated luminosity. Our numerical results show that the best limits obtained on the anomalous couplings $\frac{k_{0}^{W}}{Λ^{2}}$, $\frac{k_{c}^{W}}{Λ^{2}}$, $\frac{k_{2}^{m}}{Λ^{2}}$ and $\frac{a_{n}}{Λ^{2}}$ at $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV and an integrated luminosity of $L_{int}=100$ fb$^{-1}$ are $[-1.37;\, 1.37]\times 10^{-6}$ GeV$^{-2}$, $[-1.88; \, 1.88]\times 10^{-6}$ GeV$^{-2}$, $[-6.55; \, 6.55]\times 10^{-7}$ GeV$^{-2}$ and $[-2.21;\,2.21]\times 10^{-6}$ GeV$^{-2}$, respectively. Thus, $γp$ mode of photon-induced reactions at the LHC highly improves the sensitivity limits of the anomalous coupling parameters $\frac{k_{0}^{W}}{Λ^{2}}$, $\frac{k_{c}^{W}}{Λ^{2}}$, $\frac{k_{2}^{m}}{Λ^{2}}$ and $\frac{a_{n}}{Λ^{2}}$.

Probe of anomalous quartic $WWZγ$ couplings in the photon-photon collisions

In this paper, we examine the potentials of the processes $γγ\rightarrow W^{+} W^{-}Z $ and $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow e^{+}γ^{*} γ^{*} e^{-} \rightarrow e^{+} W^{+} W^{-} Z e^{-}$ at the CLIC with $\sqrt{s}=0.5,1.5$ and $3$ TeV to investigate anomalous quartic $WWZγ$ couplings by two different CP-violating and CP-conserving effective Lagrangians. We find $95\%$ confidence level limits on the anomalous coupling parameters at the three CLIC energies and various integrated luminosities. The best limits obtained from the process $γγ\rightarrow W^{+} W^{-}Z $ on the anomalous $\frac{k_{0}^{W}}{Λ^{2}}$, $\frac{k_{c}^{W}}{Λ^{2}}$ and $\frac{k_{2}^{m}}{Λ^{2}}$ couplings defined by CP-conserving effective Lagrangians are $[-1.73;\, 1.73]\times 10^{-7}$ GeV$^{-2}$, $[-2.44;\, 2.44]\times 10^{-7}$ and $[-1.89; \, 1.89]\times 10^{-7}$ GeV$^{-2}$, while $\frac{a_{n}}{Λ^{2}}$ coupling determined by CP-violating effective Lagrangians is obtained as $[-1.74;\, 1.74]\times 10^{-7}$ GeV$^{-2}$. In addition, the best limits derived on $\frac{k_{0}^{W}}{Λ^{2}}$, $\frac{k_{c}^{W}}{Λ^{2}}$ and $\frac{k_{2}^{m}}{Λ^{2}}$ and $\frac{a_{n}}{Λ^{2}}$ from the process $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow e^{+}γ^{*} γ^{*} e^{-} \rightarrow e^{+} W^{+} W^{-} Z e^{-}$ are obtained as $[-1.09;\, 1.09]\times 10^{-6}$ GeV$^{-2}$, $[-1.54;\, 1.54]\times 10^{-6}$ GeV$^{-2}$, $[-1.18;\, 1.18]\times 10^{-6}$ and $[-1.04;\, 1.04]\times 10^{-6}$ GeV$^{-2}$, respectively.

Probing Charged Higgs Boson Couplings at the FCC-hh Collider

Many of the new physics models predicts a light Higgs boson similar to the Higgs boson of the Standard Model (SM) and also extra scalar bosons. Beyond the search channels for a SM Higgs boson, the future collider experiments will explore additional channels that are specific to extended Higgs sectors. We study the charged Higgs boson production within the framework of two Higgs doublet models (THDM) in the proton-proton collisions at the FCC-hh collider. With an integrated luminosity of 500 fb$^{-1}$ at very high energy frontier, we obtain a significant coverage of the parameter space and distinguish the charged Higgs-top-bottom interaction within the THDM or other new physics models with charged Higgs boson mass up to 1 TeV.

For $\sqrt{s}=0.5, 1.5$ and 3 TeV energies at the CLIC, $95\%$ confidence level limits on the anomalous coupling parameters defining the dimension-six operators are found via the effective Lagrangian approach in a model independent way. The best limits on the anomalous couplings $\frac{k_{0}^{W}}{Λ^{2}}$, $\frac{k_{c}^{W}}{Λ^{2}}$, $\frac{k_{2}^{m}}{Λ^{2}}$ and $\frac{a_{n}}{Λ^{2}}$ which can be achieved with the integrated luminosity of $L_{int}=590$ fb$^{-1}$ at the CLIC with $\sqrt{s}=3$ TeV are $[-8.80;\, 8.73]\times 10^{-8}$ GeV$^{-2}$, $[-1.53; \, 1.51]\times 10^{-7}$ GeV$^{-2}$, $[-3.75; \, 3.74]\times 10^{-7}$ GeV$^{-2}$ and $[-9.13;\,9.09]\times 10^{-7}$ GeV$^{-2}$, respectively.

Search for anomalous $WWγ$ and $WWZ$ couplings with polarized $e$-beam at the LHeC

We examine the potential of the $ep\toν_{e}qγX$ and $ep\toν_{e}qZX$ processes to search for the anomalous couplings of $WWγ$ and $WWZ$ vertices at the LHeC with the electron beam energy of $E_{e}=60$ GeV and $E_{e}=140$ GeV. The difference of maximum and minimum bounds on the anomalous couplings, ($δΔκ_γ$, $δλ_γ$) and ($δΔκ_{Z}$, $δλ_{Z}$) are obtained as ($0.990$, $0.122$) and ($0.362$, $0.012$) without electron beam polarization at the beam energy of $E_{e}=140$ GeV for an integrated luminosity of $L_{int}=100$ fb$^{-1}$, respectively. With the possibility of $e-$beam polarization, we obtain more improved results as ($0.975$, $0.118$) and ($0.285$, $0.009$) for ($δΔκ_γ, δλ_γ$) and ($δΔκ_{Z}, δλ_{Z}$), respectively. The results are found to be comparable with the current experimental limits obtained from two-parameter analysis at the lepton and hadron colliders. It is found that the limits on the anomalous couplings ($Δκ_{Z}$, $λ_{Z}$) through the process $ep\toν_{e}qZX$ at the LHeC can further improve the current experimental limits.

$ZZγ$ and $Zγγ$ anomalous couplings in $γp$ collision at the LHC

We study the sensitivity of anomalous $ZZγ$ and $Zγγ$ vertex couplings $h_3^{γ,Z}$ and $h_4^{γ,Z}$, which would be powerful sign of new physics, via the subprocess $γq\to Z q$ of the main reaction $pp\to pγp\to Z q X$ at the LHC. We calculated limits on these couplings at 95% confidence level for various values of integrated luminosity. It is shown that the $pp\to pγp\to Z q X$ reaction provides one order of magnitude improvement in the couplings $h_4^{γ,Z}$ compared to the current experimental limits obtained in events dominated by $Zγ$ production from the LHC and Tevatron.

A Large Hadron Electron Collider at CERN

This document provides a brief overview of the recently published report on the design of the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC), which comprises its physics programme, accelerator physics, technology and main detector concepts. The LHeC exploits and develops challenging, though principally existing, accelerator and detector technologies. This summary is complemented by brief illustrations of some of the highlights of the physics programme, which relies on a vastly extended kinematic range, luminosity and unprecedented precision in deep inelastic scattering. Illustrations are provided regarding high precision QCD, new physics (Higgs, SUSY) and electron-ion physics. The LHeC is designed to run synchronously with the LHC in the twenties and to achieve an integrated luminosity of O(100) fb$^{-1}$. It will become the cleanest high resolution microscope of mankind and will substantially extend as well as complement the investigation of the physics of the TeV energy scale, which has been enabled by the LHC.

Anomalous Higgs Couplings at the LHeC

The discovery of Higgs boson plays a crucial role in understanding the electroweak symmetry breaking sector. From now on, solving the dynamics of this sector needs precision measurements of the couplings of the Higgs boson to the standard model particles. In this work, we investigate the constrains on the anomalous $HWW$ and $HWWγ$ couplings, described by the dimension-six operators in the effective Lagrangian, in a high energy envisaged ep collider which is called Large Hadron electron Collider (LHeC). We obtained the 95 % confidence level limits on the couplings of anomalous $HWW$ and $HWWγ$ vertex, with the design luminosity of 10 fb$^{-1}$ and electron beam energy of 140 GeV, through $ep\to νH +X$, $γp\to W H +X$ and $eγ\to W H ν$ processes by considering the new physics energy scale to be $Λ$= 1 TeV. The sensitivity of the LHeC to the new physics scale is also briefly discussed.

Associated Production of Different Flavor Heavy Quarks Through $W'$ Bosons at the LHC

Associated production of different flavor heavy quarks can provide a probe for $W'$ bosons at the LHC. We study $pp\to t'\bar{b'}X$ process with the subsequent decays $t'\to W^+b$ and $\bar{b'}\to W^-W^+\bar b$, and compare the results with the $t\bar{b}$ final state. The effects of the $W'$ boson to the different flavor pair production cross section are shown to be important in some parameter region for the heavy quark masses of 600 and 700 GeV. On the Relation of the LHeC and the LHC

The present note relies on the recently published conceptual design report of the LHeC and extends the first contribution to the European strategy debate in emphasising the role of the LHeC to complement and complete the high luminosity LHC programme. The brief discussion therefore focuses on the importance of high precision PDF and $α_s$ determinations for the physics beyond the Standard Model (GUTs, SUSY, Higgs). Emphasis is also given to the importance of high parton density phenomena in nuclei and their relevance to the heavy ion physics programme at the LHC.

A Large Hadron Electron Collider at CERN: Report on the Physics and Design Concepts for Machine and Detector

The physics programme and the design are described of a new collider for particle and nuclear physics, the Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC), in which a newly built electron beam of 60 GeV, up to possibly 140 GeV, energy collides with the intense hadron beams of the LHC. Compared to HERA, the kinematic range covered is extended by a factor of twenty in the negative four-momentum squared, $Q^2$, and in the inverse Bjorken $x$, while with the design luminosity of $10^{33}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$ the LHeC is projected to exceed the integrated HERA luminosity by two orders of magnitude. The physics programme is devoted to an exploration of the energy frontier, complementing the LHC and its discovery potential for physics beyond the Standard Model with high precision deep inelastic scattering measurements. These are designed to investigate a variety of fundamental questions in strong and electroweak interactions. The physics programme also includes electron-deuteron and electron-ion scattering in a $(Q^2, 1/x)$ range extended by four orders of magnitude as compared to previous lepton-nucleus DIS experiments for novel investigations of neutron's and nuclear structure, the initial conditions of Quark-Gluon Plasma formation and further quantum chromodynamic phenomena. The LHeC may be realised either as a ring-ring or as a linac-ring collider. Optics and beam dynamics studies are presented for both versions, along with technical design considerations on the interaction region, magnets and further components, together with a design study for a high acceptance detector. Civil engineering and installation studies are presented for the accelerator and the detector. The LHeC can be built within a decade and thus be operated while the LHC runs in its high-luminosity phase. It thus represents a major opportunity for progress in particle physics exploiting the investment made in the LHC.

Anomalous single production of fourth family up type quark associated with neutral gauge bosons at the LHC

From the present limits on the masses and mixings of fourth family quarks, they are expected to have mass larger than the top quark and allow a large range of mixing of the third family. They could also have different dynamics than the quarks of three families of the Standard Model. The single production of the fourth family up type quark t' has been studied via anomalous production process pp-> t'VX (where V=g,Z,γ) at the LHC with the center of mass energy of 7 and 14 TeV. The signatures of such process are discussed within both the SM decay modes and anomalous decay modes of t' quarks. Search for Top Quark FCNC Couplings in Z' Models at the LHC and CLIC

The top quark is the heaviest particle to date discovered, with a mass close to the electroweak symmetry breaking scale. It is expected that the top quark would be sensitive to the new physics at the TeV scale. One of the most important aspects of the top quark physics can be the investigation of the possible anomalous couplings. Here, we study the top quark flavor changing neutral current (FCNC) couplings via the extra gauge boson Z' at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) energies. We calculate the total cross sections for the signal and the corresponding Standard Model (SM) background processes. For an FCNC mixing parameter x=0.2 and the sequential Z' mass of 1 TeV, we find the single top quark FCNC production cross sections 0.38(1.76) fb at the LHC with sqrt{s_{pp}}=7(14) TeV, respectively. For the resonance production of sequential Z' boson and decays to single top quark at the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC) energies, including the initial state radiation and beamstrahlung effects, we find the cross section 27.96(0.91) fb at sqrt{s_{e^{+}e^{-}}}=1(3) TeV, respectively. We make the analysis to investigate the parameter space (mixing-mass) through various Z' models. It is shown that the results benefit from the flavor tagging.

We found that an analysis of the decay modes of $D$ should probe the mass ranges of 100-450 GeV and 100-1200 GeV at the center of mass energies, 1 and 1.4 TeV, respectively.
